After seventeen years of anticipation, Brazilian death metal stalwarts Ophiolatry have officially released their new album “Serpent’s Verdict” today (June 6th, 2025) through WormHoleDeath Records. Available now on all major digital platforms and in physical formats, this landmark release represents both a triumphant return and an evolutionary leap forward for one of extreme metal’s most brutal underground acts.

“Serpent’s Verdict” stands as a complete sonic ritual—a brutal, immersive descent into cycles of destruction, revenge, and rebirth. Rooted in themes of ancestral pain, war defiance, and spiritual reckoning, the album fuses relentless death metal with primal energy drawn from indigenous Amazonian spiritual traditions. Each track functions as a chapter in a larger narrative, combining aggressive riffs, guttural vocals, and tribal rhythms that pay homage to ancient warrior cultures. The band comments:

“This album pushes our technical and compositional limits while maintaining the speed and aggression that defines Ophiolatry. The riffs are intricate but wild, combining relentless blast rhythms with haunting atmospheric passages. The drums are faster and more precise than ever, while the guitars weave a mix of crisp precision and crushing heaviness. The vocals convey pure ferocity, from guttural growls to visceral screams that echo the intensity of the lyrics. While we pursue a new approach, the essence of Ophiolatry remains intact: ruthless, dark, and unapologetically extreme.”

Citing a brutal process in the creation of the album, the band describes it as ‘a communion between the band and the artist, a shared trance where sound and image feed each other’. The result is an album that honors the band’s brutal death metal roots while expanding their sonic palette into more atmospheric and thematically rich territory. It is recommended for fans of Suffocation, Morbid Angel, and Death.

Italian melancholic dark metal band Shores Of Null are proud to announce the release of their first live album, “Beauty Over Europe”, set to drop on May 9th, 2025 via Sulphur Music / Masked Dead Records.

The live album features 10 tracks recorded during their monumental 2023 European tour with Swallow The Sun, Draconian, and Avatarium. Throughout that tour, Shores of Null performed 35 shows across 18 countries, including Norway, Denmark, Germany, the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Hungary, bringing their critically acclaimed album “The Loss Of Beauty” to the stage.

The live recordings, captured in the cities of Leipzig, Munich, Aschaffenburg, Budapest, and Belfast, preserve the raw and emotive energy of their performances. Each track reflects the band’s ability to blend melancholic melodies with crushing heaviness, offering fans a visceral live experience.

“Beauty Over Europe” is both a celebration of the tour and a gift to all fans of the band. Exactly two years after that unforgettable journey, this live album offers a chance to relive the emotional intensity and true essence of Shores Of Null’s live performances.

Reflecting on the experience, vocalist Davide Straccione shared:

Shores of Null stand out from their contemporaries with their ability to blend seemingly disparate elements into their sound, overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time: blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic yet majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

The Rome-based metal band has been an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013, churning out a series of impressive records: the melodic and somber “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014), the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), and the ambitious “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” (Spikerot Records, 2020), a 38-minute long doom manifesto that sees guest appearances of the doom-titans Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow The Sun) and Thomas A.G. ABOUT:

Aexylium was formed in 2014 in Italy, merging the distinctive sound of traditional instruments with the modern intensity of metal.

The band has performed at many renowned European festivals including Dong Open Air, Tanzt!, Mead & Greed, Montelago Celtic Festival, Malpaga Folk & Metal, Druidia, and more. During these events, Aexylium shared the stage with several notable bands such as Blind Guardian, Elvenking, Wind Rose, Týr, Vision Divine, Furor Gallico, Temperance, and others.

Their debut album, ‘Tales From This Land’ (2018), was released through Underground Symphony Records. It was recorded at Twilight Studio by Davide Tavecchia and mastered by Simone Mularoni (Elvenking, DGM, Secret Sphere, etc).

In 2021, Aexylium signed a deal with Rockshots Records for their second album, ‘The Fifth Season’. The album was recorded at Twilight Studio with the artwork designed by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design (Testament, Manowar, Korpiklaani). To date, the band has released six music videos as singles.

Compared to the last studio album, the band has welcomed Alberto Mezzanotte (drums), Luca Perrone (Guitar), and the frontman Sam Biganzoli into its lineup.

Set to release their first full length “Troubled Mind” at the end of March 2025 along with hitting the road across Ontario and Quebec (dates listed below), Toronto prog Derev is sharing their next single “Tides of Time” accompanied by a music video. The track showcases the distress of “cognitive immobility”, a mental trap that leads to an effort to recreate past incidents that one lived in the past. By doing so, the person attempts to retrieve what was left behind, leaving them stuck in a place that no longer exists in reality.

Drummer Michel Karakach shares:

“Leaving my hometown in Syria at the age of 25, after having built so many wonderful friendships, memories, and experiences was a struggle I never knew I’d have to deal with until I did. Finding myself reminiscing over and over about my past life inspired me to write about it as a form of therapy. I never knew this was an actual mental diagnosis until I did some research on it.”

While “Tides of Time” may sound simple and straightforward for first-time listeners, the truth is far from it. This song is filled with hidden gems and rhythmic intricacies that can only be caught by well-trained ears. It features a 7/8 time signature layered over a pulsing 4/4 backbeat, creating a mesmerizing polyrhythmic loop throughout. As the song progresses from a mellow, slow vibe to an intense, epic crescendo, a standout guitar solo seamlessly ties all the elements together. It concludes with the same bass riff that opened the track, forming an endless loop that mirrors the song’s central theme.

“Troubled Mind” is Derev’s first full length and second release to follow their 2021 debut EP “Leap of Faith”. Derev was conceived after founding member, and drummer Michel Karakach, after fleeing the war in the Middle East and finding refuge in Toronto, Canada, reunited with his best friend, guitarist Armando Bablanian to turn what was once a mere childhood dream into now a powerful reality.

“Troubled Mind” builds on the foundation laid in Derev’s first release, offering a diverse range of sounds from mellow, calm tracks to adrenaline-pumping heavy headbangers, while maintaining their distinctive progressive rock sound, enriched with Middle Eastern influences. Incorporating more prominent keyboard parts, experimenting with various time signatures, and introducing new instruments such as the Cajon, Darbuka, and electronic elements. This evolution showcases the band’s innovative spirit and commitment to pushing musical boundaries.

“While our debut EP tackled broad themes like war, technology, and injustice in the world, Troubled Mind shifts focus to the personal realm. We wanted to explore and articulate various mental states, the subtle thoughts, and inner dialogues that when nurtured and fed over time, makes us who we are. And while we offer some kind of resolution in a few tracks, the purpose of the album is to explore and highlight these different states of mind, rather than try to resolve them.” adds the band.

Derev‘s dynamic lineup now includes bassist Stan Komarovsky, providing the backbone of Derev‘s sound, and keyboardist Ran Zehavi from the progressive rock band Scalar, adding depth and complexity. Leading the live charge is frontman and vocalist Mike Symons to replace previous singer Adel Saflou who is featured on “Troubled Mind”.

Following their 2020 EP “Sleeper”, the Finnish progressive metal band expands its sonic vision with an album that pushes boundaries, blending extreme metal intensity with intricate progressive arrangements and cinematic depth.

Formed in 2017 by Niko Löfman (vocals, guitars), Antton Kasslin (drums) and Roope Kytölä (bass), Aitheer has evolved from a jam-based project into one of Finland’s most daring progressive acts. “The Serpent” represents a culmination of years of musical exploration, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Harri Petjakko at Studio UG in Finland between 2020 and 2024. “This is one of those compositions that requires total immersion. Clean singing, bah who needs singing at all?! Recorded with finetuned care so you can hear all the little fret squeaks before they ramp up the ambience straight from a John Fruscianterecord. With synths and other keys that chameleon-ize said maestro’s voice, later emulating the sound of a backing choir that then morphs into church organ. When the atmospherics basking in the background saunter forth, the darker shades of green start to realize and the track enters the domain of prog royalty. Italian experimental metal outfit SVNTH has just released their single “Cinnamon Moon” off their forthcoming album “Pink Noise Youth” out on These Hands Melt Records this coming April 2025. “Cinnamon Moon” showcases SVNTH‘s distinctive approach to genre-blending, weaving together elements of blackgaze and post-hardcore to create a deeply personal sonic landscape. The track stands as an emotional open letter, chronicling the complex journey of late youth through a rich tapestry of sound that includes slowdive-inspired ethereal delays, black metal screams, and the unconventional incorporation of the electric Indian sitar. The band shares their thoughts on the single:

“It unveils some of the most interesting features offered on the album in terms of sound and mood. With its captivating mix of blackgaze and post-hardcore, the song is an open letter soaked in fragility and emotional exposure, delivered to a loved one as a memorial of the hampered paths walked together on the road of late youth.”

While their earlier work explored life’s struggles through a childhood lens, “Pink Noise Youth” examines the chaos and emotional instability of early adulthood, giving voice to a generation as unpredictable as its namesake audio phenomenon.

“Pink Noise Youth” demonstrates SVNTH‘s continued evolution, deliberately transcending genre boundaries by combining elements of hardcore, metal, shoegaze, and post-rock with unexpected instrumental choices. The album promises to take listeners on a cohesive journey through its carefully crafted track sequence, maintaining the band’s tradition of creating conceptually unified works. With a various background of musical influences and artistic inspirations, SVNTH (written all caps and pronounced “Seventh”, formerly “Seventh Genocide”) from Rome, Italy has been shaping a unique equilibrium of sounds through the years moving across a huge variety of directions on the palette of contemporary alternative music to create a distinctive soundtrack for inner emotions, life scenarios, and existentialist questioning. Expanding the energy of black and post-metal over the mellow and contemplative boundaries of shoegaze, art pop, and cinematic post-rock.

From the vivid early black gaze melodies of the debut “Breeze of Memories” (2015) to the long song structures with acoustic overtures and Godspeed You! Black Emperor inspired sections of the monumental “Toward Akina” (2017); SVNTH confirms this more complex approach on the double LP “Spring in Blue” (2020), the childhood chapter of a trilogy of colors based on emotions in different phases of life.

The upcoming “Pink Noise Youth” (2025) gets back to a more traditional song format, introducing a unique use of Indian sitar, and an array of acoustic instruments and singing expressions, which develops SVNTH to a one-of-a-kind sound and personality.

As of today, the band has done several tours and single shows all over Europe and in the USA touching even non-frequently toured countries such as Albania and Turkey and performing at notable festivals like Rockstadt and Frantic Fest, bringing a defining cathartic live energy.

Kelowna, BC, Canada’s SweetBeast has a new music video to share for the track “Plastic People” in the lead-up to their forthcoming debut album “Illusions” out late February 2025. This is the third single the band is revealing off the record to follow songs “Illusion” ft. Space Queen” and “Dream Eater”.

SweetBeast explains “Plastic People”:

“This track critiques the superficiality of modern society, particularly the harmful effects of social media on mental health. With lines like “effects and filters, digital weapons,” the song highlights how the endless stream of digitally altered images fuels feelings of inadequacy, especially in women. This cycle of comparison can lead to doom scrolling, depression, and even suicide, stripping away authenticity and turning people into hollow, “plastic” versions of themselves. By raising awareness of these devastating effects, the song encourages self-reflection and contrasts inner beauty with the hollowness of curated personas.”

SweetBeast‘s first full-length “Illusions” is a sonic exploration of shifting realities, blending heavy, distorted riffs with introspective lyrics.
