Edmonton, AB’s VAN HALST is a fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal. A project, which began as a solo artist for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations. Their forthcoming 2016 album ‘World of Make Believe’ is set for release on March 4th and before its release VAN HALST has posted a new music video for their track ‘Save Me’, which can be viewed at the following link below.

“Being that this is our first music video released, we wanted to steer clear of a storyline and simply present the band to the world. This video is intended to capture our stage performance and highlight the song. We shot the video in a building that used to be a chapel- we thought it was fitting considering the content of Save Me.”

The band’s influences stay true to goth rock, Kami Van Halst demonstrates an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummeling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgemental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.

Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. About:

Martriden are an all-American nightmare producing blackened death metal with progressive and symphonic highlights that sound straight from the depths of hell. Established in 2005 in their home state of Montana, USA and now residing in Denver, CO. The band’s name is derived from the Scandinavian word “Maradraum” meaning nightmare. The name is also associated with various folklore of a malignant female wraith who causes what is now known as sleep paralysis.

Their sinister arrangement of black and death metal is influenced by their European counterparts while maintaining distinctly, unapologetic American style. The band draws inspiration from greats like Opeth, Behemoth, and Bloodbath, while crafting their own symphonic elements. Martriden are known for writing soaring tracks courtesy of Shane Howard writing thick guitar riffs paired with his brother Kyle’s keyboard and acid gargling vocals. Will Thackeray wraps up each song tightly around his dark guitar riffs for the perfect balance of melody and heaviness. Shane currently records and engineers albums in his Sawn and Quartered Studio and does recording collaborations with Dave Otero at Denver’s Flatline Audio Studios. He has been involved in the recordings of Wayfarer, Satan’s Host, Khemmis, and the last two Cattle Decapitation recordings.

Following successful US tour dates with the mighty EMPEROR, as well as the release of their 2010 ‘Encounter The Monolith’, 2007’s ‘The Unsettling Dark’ via Candlelight Records and 2006’s self-titled EP via SOAR, the band has released their most anticipated album to date: “Cold And The Silence” on November 28th, 2015. Their release is a seven track, full-length album, which compromises nothing in terms of production and depth of story. The album deals with life in general with each song telling a story and themes about the insignificance of human life compared to the vast entirety of the universe.

About FTF:

Started as a recording project in the late 90’s, it wasn’t until 2001 that the work ethic that produced a slew of underground releases drove Fuck The Facts towards full band status and into the live arena. Since then, the Ottawa-based unit has barely stopped for a breath of reconsideration, associating themselves with some of the biggest labels in underground extreme music, as well as continuing a steady output of DIY releases. Having toured hundreds of thousands of kilometers throughout North America and Europe, guitarist/founder Topon Das, vocalist Mel Mongeon, drummer Mathieu Vilandré, bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon, and guitarist Johnny Ibay have performed at some of the biggest festivals and sweated it out in some of the smallest basements. Upon the completion of their contract, the quintet decided it was time to put the finishing touches on the proverbial full-circle, returning to the world of fierce independence and creative control. Their most recent releases were produced entirely at their own studio, self-released, and shows Fuck The Facts efforts as an entity continuing to grow musically and personally while developing a deeper understanding of what significance their art holds to them. As one of the longest running and most recognizable names in Canadian Grindcore, FUCK THE FACTS continue to deliver their brand of “Bastardized Grindcore” with no end in sight.

Brandish your weapons and bare your teeth in the battle for new world order with Montreal’s power metal quintet, Demise Of The Crown. They run the gambit from melodic power metal to hard rock weaved together with soaring solos reminiscent of Eddie Van Halen with undertones of Yngwie Malmsteen. The band’s sound has developed from progressive to a heavy metal band that has a pop format structure to the music in order to lure people into the realm of metal. 1- Between 2010 and 2015, more than 55 foreign bands have toured the Brutal Fest. France, Switzerland, UK, Belgium, Italy Hungary, Canada, USA, Denmark, Finland, Costa Rica, Sweden Chili, Mexico…

2- Every show, but one, is outdoor. 6/7

3- Beer cost less than $2 in Cuba.

4- You can have a good meal for less than $2 during the tour.

5- Rum is so cheap, you better buy a whole bottle than ordering some rum and coke.

6- Every hotel is reserved in advance so bands don’t have to take care of finding a place in each city.

7- Lot’s of Cuban fans! They will ask for AUTOGRAPHS. Bring a Sharpie!!

What is BRUTAL SUMMER FEST TOUR?

It’s a seven date tour with five to seven international bands, ten crew members, two bus drivers and one big bus on the road for two weeks across Cuba.

The selected Canadian band will share the stage with five or six other talented international bands every night and will be on the road during the day visiting every aspect of the Cuban culture.

Not only will the winning band be sent to tour with Brutal Fest in Cuba with tour shirts and promo stickers, but they will also have the opportunity to be endorsed by companies such as InTune Guitar Picks and SoulTone Cymbals as well as a few other great prizes from their sponsors.

‘Stand In The Fire’ is STRIKER‘s most uncompromising record to date. A record packed with incredible riffs and colossal anthems, all laced together with epic harmonies. Inspired by legendary bands like Iron Maiden, Striker wears their hearts firmly on their battle jackets, soaking up the power and influence of classic rock and metal.

The band; Dan Clearly (vocals) Tim Brown (lead/rhythm guitars) William Wallace (bass) Adam Brown (drums) recorded the album themselves with the help of Randy Black (who filled in on drums while Adam was away…) and mixing genius Frederik Nordstrom (Bring Me The Horizon, In Flames, Opeth) giving them not only the time and space needed but the freedom to set up the release direct to fans worldwide.

Edmonton, AB based Black Mourning Light Metal Festival, a celebration of black, doom, and dark death metal is proud to announce after a successful debut during Halloween 2015 that they will be returning for a 2016 edition set for October 22nd. The onslaught will be held at the Rendezvous Pub with a lineup of bands from across Western Canada all in the vein of black and doom metal along with select death styles. Last year’s line up included 11 bands from three provinces such as headliner Idolatry (Edmonton), Altars of Grief (Regina), Noire (Winnipeg), Ossific (Winnipeg), Vile Insignia (Calgary) and more.

Those that attended the 2015 inaugural ritual will not be disappointed by 2016, as they can expect a different while similar experience to that event. Due to the proximity of Samhain, costume prizes will still be awarded to those who wish to dress up early and celebrate the season.

The EP is the follow up to 2014’s ‘Murder Trilogy’ EP and their 2012 full length ‘Heavy Ride’ and was recorded at Indica Studio in Montreal, QC where it was produced by BUFFALO THEORY MTL along with Peter Edwards (Grimskunk). BUFFALO THEORY MTL is a band of beer chugging, heavy riffing fans for the fans. Attributing their name to a scene from the pop culture 80’s TV show CHEERS (Cliff Claven explains the Buffalo theory of beer to his buddy Norm (explanation here.)) and the MTL abbreviation representing their pride for their hometown of Montreal, these seasoned veterans from the Canadian and Brazilian metal scenes are always ready to set the stage ablaze with their stoner / thrash infused metal for beer lovers around the world.

Comprised of members from legendary Quebec bands Ghoulunatics, Les Ékorchés, Arseniq 33 and currently active Vantablack Warship along with vocalist Anton Parr’s experience in thrash bands in Brazil. Back in March, Josh was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia). After several treatments, chemo, and a stem cell transplant, Josh and his family were informed in December that the Leukemia had returned. The doctors are doing what ever they can to help Josh, but some of the treatments are not covered by OHIP…one of the treatments will cost almost 7000 dollars.

We’ve banded together with some close friends in the scene to help raise money for these medical expenses. EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. A respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.

The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.
