GearGods Premiere Montreal Prog Metal FRACTAL CYPHER Playthrough ‘Idle Words’

Debut Album ‘The Human Paradox’ Out Sept 7th

Montreal prog metallers FRACTAL CYPHER will be releasing their debut album ‘The Human Paradox’ on September 7th. The album is produced by Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) and will be comprised of 9 songs, each hand picked and strategically chosen to best represent the living, breathing entity that is FRACTAL CYPHER.  Their fourth single off the debut is a playthrough video for ‘Idle Words’ that the band has teamed up withGearGods.net for the exclusive premiere.

“Idle Words is a « djtenty » style song that explores many different textures, soundscapes, and passages. Whether heavy riffs, jazzy ambiance and textures or catchy choruses and verses, Idle Words is far from being a monotone song and will surely hook the modern prog listeners.” comments guitarist Vincent Bruneau.

To watch the ‘Idle Words’ playthrough, please visit the following link: http://geargods.net/playthrough/fractal-cypher-no-idle-hands-on-idle-words-music-video/

fractal cypher - no idle hands on "idle words" playthrough - geargods

FRACTAL CYPHER exists to captivate audiences with progressive instrumentals that cut through the mesmerizing vocals yet somehow evolving; each listen provides a new perspective. Straight out of the heart of Canada’s metal scene, these Montreal metallers constantly shift their compositions with seamless transitions and theatrical interludes to keep audiences on their toes. Since 2014, ex-Far From Reality members Simon Lavoie (vocals), Ludovick Daoust (keyboard), and Vincent Bruneau (guitar) have dedicated themselves to FRACTAL CYPHER.

The powerful quintet is just as versatile in their music as they are in their musical interests, darting between djent, death metal, and classic rock. Each song acts of their own volition almost taking control of the members and shaping a personality and energy not unlike a living entity. Ludovick is at the helm of songwriting, calculating and unlocking each melody and becoming the voice for each piece.

2. Endless Circle (6:26)
3. Shining A While (8:04)
4. Prison Planet (5:27)

Canadian thrash legends EXCITER will be taking the stage at this year’s Calgary Metalfest on September 17th at Flames Central presented by Big Nate Productions. Their performance is one for the history books as they will be reuniting their original line up for the first time since 1985 plus sharing the stage with fellow Canadian thrash pioneers ANNIHILATOR, RAZOR and SACRIFICE. All have never before performed on the same stage together, making the concert a historic moment in metal.

 EXCITER guitarist John Ricci comments:

“We are really stoked to participate at the fest with such great bands that came out of Canada and went on to establish themselves as serious contenders in the metal market around the globe. The last time the original line-up played together was the summer of 1985, our last tour together across the USA. When we got back together in 2014, it was like we never broke up, it was like instant musical chemistry!”

Music Video – If Detroit River Could Speak – Watch here.

Windsor, ON’s THE APEX announce they will be performing at the 4th edition of the Ontario Death Fest on the Friday, October 21st in Toronto at Coalition T.O. alongside The Zeta Reticuli, Accursed Spawn, Mendacity, Experiment Specimen and Viledriver. Full line up details can found at the following event link here and facebook page here.

THE APEX will be performing at the fest in support of their recently unleashed EP ‘Underbelly’, which the band is currently on their ‘Fresh Out of The Foundry Tour’ with Regina’s The Man and His Machine across Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (dates listed below).

‘Underbelly’ features three ear piercing blasts of extreme shrapnel, but what truly makes THE APEX interesting besides the full force of their technical brutality is that vocalist Darren Marchand suffers from Neurogenic Stammering, which effects his speech where the brain won’t tell the mouth what to say, so he’s unable to carry on a normal conversation, but for some reason he’s able to scream all the lyrics live and that is how he gets to express himself vocally with the band.

BIO:

The Apex formed in August of 2013.

They are a collective of individuals from the Ontario metal community, whom over the years have come together from past bands such as, Closed Casket Funeral, Dismata, Blood Shot Eye, The Coalition Design, and Corprophemia to form The Apex.

In a true culmination of talent, dedication, and timing, this group has created a unique hometown sound that is now being called “Windsor Ghetto Tech”. The brutal sonic assault of their music coupled with the emotional reckless abandonment of their live performance, have drawn stanch comparisons to Meshuggah and classic Dillinger Escape Plan rounded out with a distinctly Canadian flair. To add influence, vocalist Darren M. suffers from Neurogenic Stammering, which effects his speech where the brain won’t tell the mouth what to say so he’s unable to carry on a normal conversation, but for some reason he’s able to scream all the lyrics live and that is how he gets to express himself vocally with the band.

In July, 2014 they entered Shark Tank Productions studio in Windsor, Ontario to begin recording their debut self-titled full length album, “The Apex”. They hired engineer Nick Kinnish of Serafina Productions (Johnny Truent, Architects, and more) to aid them in capturing their sound accurately. In November, 2014 they completed their recording and announced the independent release date of February 21st, 2015. In 2016, the band entered Empire Recording Studios to record their next release, the EP ‘Underbelly’ set to be unleashed in August.

TOUR EXPERIENCE
This band is no stranger to hitting the pavement to support the music they love to make. In their 15+ years of experience creating music in previous bands, they’ve been support on tour for bands like: Cephalic Carnage, All Shall Perish, Despised Icon, Cryptopsy, Today Is The Day, Killitorous, Erimha and Ion Dissonance to name a few. In previous bands they’ve also shared the stage on festivals with bands like: SOD, Venom, Obituary, Cradle Of Filth, Earth Crisis, God Forbid, Skinless, Beneath The Massacre and more to crowds up to 7500+ in North America.

As their current lineup “The Apex”, they have already invested in a mid-sized tour bus and have began to book many shows and festivals across Canada for 2016.

“…hails from further out in left-field with more peaks and valleys than the heads-down-tits-up sludgy rock they fire at you from the stage…these dudes have a 90s alt-rock edge grinding against their love affair with riffs that crash bolts of lightning into stacks of Orange amps in delivering a rumbling calling card of hellacious noise.” – Decibel

“In 2012, the unpredictability and wickedness of Matterhorn and the gritty violence of the companion release The Royal We established the group as one to watch closely; Dog Years confirms that attention was well worth it.” – Exclaim
“The Great Sabatini are not just playing by-the-numbers sludge, but rather mixing things up, and transposing their punk attitude into new forms of musical expression beyond what you might be expecting.” – The Sleeping Shaman

Since forming in Montreal in late 2007, The Great Sabatini have released four eps, three full length albums, and logged seemingly endless tour dates around North America and Europe. Their music is an aggressive mixture of noise rock, doom, hardcore, and metal wrapped up in a burly sludge aesthetic. They’ll fearlessly employ any musical device if it suits their needs, from standard pop song structures and hooks to utterly tuneless experimentation or any degree between the two. All four band members handle vocal duties. They play loud, and with conviction.

Their latest full length album “Dog Years” (2014) was the result of years of accumulated experience writing, performing and recording together. It was recorded in Hamilton by Sean Pearson (Cursed, Shallow North Dakota) and self-released by the band in Canada on digital and vinyl and released by Solar Flare Records on vinyl for Europe and USA.

About: Godstopper

Bandcamp | Facebook

For fans of Melvins, Failure, YOB, Torche, Big Business

“There’s a lot of compositional bells and whistles on deck here, from a chugging chorus riff that feels like it’s perpetually interrupting itself to a left-turn Thin Lizzy guitar lick that King Buzzo would surely appreciate. But the part that’ll really suck you in is the sublime vocal harmonies that frontman Mike Simpson layers over the song like fishnet over a boulder.” – Stereogum

“Like the best records by Today Is the Day, Swans and Harvey Milk, all of which I hear in Godstopper’s jarring songwriting…We talk a lot about making extreme music as cathartic for the music maker, but what the listener? I feel no more relieved for having heard Empty Crawlspace. In fact it’s psychically draining. And totally addictive, too. I’m not going to be able to sleep for a week.” – Metalsucks

“Somewhere between the Thunder-Pop of sparkly heavy-hitters Torche, the aggressive sludge of fellow Floridians Cavity and the awkward stop-start dream-logic quasi-operatic noise rock of Pony Express Record-era Shudder To Think lie Toronto’s Godstopper…What Matters is a tough record to describe, in some ways, as any comparisons I care to make are merely rough approximations used in an attempt to point you, the potential listener, in a certain direction, as far as preparing you for what to expect. However, the truth of it is that Godstopper sound exactly like Godstopper, and, really, how many bands these days can truly lay claim to such a thing?” – Sleeping Shaman

About:

Blitzing out of Canada’s capital with their punishing hard-rock rooted in heavy metal, Chariots of the Gods has-been on one sole assignment since 2007: shredding endlessly in a neighborhood near you.

The five-piece band gave birth to their first EP “Reverence” in 2010. Their first full length album, “Tides of War”, was produced by music legend Glen Robinson (Queensryche, Gwar, Annihilator) in 2013.

In 2014, the band went on their first international tour in Cuba and were the first Canadian metal band to do so. Chariots of the Gods are now set to storm the world with the musical assault that is their latest masterpiece: “Ages Unsung”.

About:

Conceived within the womb of Execration, Helleborus is the latest emanation of Jerred & Wyatt Houseman. Like the enigmatic and deadly winter flower from which the project takes its name, Helleborus pushes the exploration of traditional black metal into the uncharted territory of sensual duality and mysticism. Building on their professional experience with Execration and personal experiences through Akhenaten, the Houseman brothers sought a deeper expression of their experiential-driven musical style that audiences can connect with through a union of opposites.

“We’ve always had a vision for the type of black metal project Helleborus would be. We wanted to explore and deliver a darker and yet more romantic side of black metal. There is an unknown side of metal that is masculine and powerful, yet sensual and respectful; controlled chaos.” comments vocalist Wyatt Houseman.

Album Band Line Up features: Wyatt (vocals, lyrics) & Jerred Houseman (producer, all instruments)

Live Band Line Up features: Brent Boutte’ – Drums, Jerred Houseman – Guitar & leads, Wyatt Houseman – Voice, Ian Horenman – guitar & rhythms, Michael Hylands – Bass

About:
A fierce, empowering force of hard rock fused with metal with strong socially conscious lyrics and advocacy for female rights, VAN HALST recently released their debut album‘World of Make Believe’ on March 4th, 2016, which is now available on iTunes and Bandcamp.
VAN HALST, a project that first began as a solo endeavour for whom the band is named after — Kami Van Halst, has since become a full group producing socially conscious, lyrical tracks that focus on disenfranchised and marginalized populations. The band’s influences stay true to goth rock with Kami Van Halst demonstrating an agile vocal delivery in combination with pummeling growls. Lyrically, the band draws from black metal due to its focus on people suffering from isolation and rising to overcome the preconceptions of a judgmental society. In This Moment’s industrial fusion remains a primary influence for Van Halst, employing a sampler, synthesizer, and distorted vocals.
Kami Van Halst dominates as the vocalist performing both growls and soaring vocals (Surviving Suzanne), Scott Greene (Derina Harvey Band/Dirty Pool) and Strathon J. Bajowsky (Havok Way) craft the guitar work while Brendan McMillan (bass) (My Darkest Days) and Brett Seaton (drums) (Cultured by Fire) drive the rhythm section of the band. Kami’s range and virtuosic vocal ability always captivates an audience and her attitude on stage truly delivers the meaning behind the songs. The main writing forces for the band are Kami and Scott working together to give listeners a vivid image of social injustices. The band’s live performance is a theatric experience as the utilize full-costumes, make-up and stage props.

PureGrainAudio Premiere LUCID AFTERLIFE ‘Time Killaz ft. Merkules’

Reveal EP ‘Occult Mafia Mistress’ Artwork & Track Listing

Vancouver progressive groove rockers LUCID AFTERLIFE are challenging musical composition with each song that they have been writing since 2012. Their name is more of a destination than a title for vocalist Nat Jack who hopes to inspire fans to be as unbridled as their music. The collective vision for the band is driven by Nat at the forefront, guitarist Thom Turner (Freya), Miles Morrsion on Bass, and Matthew Shearlaw on drums.

The band’s diversity allows them to explore all creative avenues and continue to be a flexible group that could be hailed for their hip-hop sensibilities and rock dynamics in one review. Instrumentally they draw on their myriad of influences including David Bowie, Monster Magnet, Wu-Tang Clan, Led Zeppelin, and finally A Perfect Circle.Their next EP ‘Occult Mafia Mistress’ (release date to be determined) is a collection of songs that lyrically conjure out a certain aspect of Jack’s psyche, a part he is learning to respect and accept. It represents the part of humanity that remains hidden and needs to be drawn out from an internal dialogue that fans can have with each song. The writing process begins to take shape in the lyrics, which touch on indulgence and encouraging everyone to enjoy all pleasurable aspects of life.

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio.com, LUCID AFTERLIFE is giving fans a taste of what’s to come from the EP with their first single ‘Time Killaz’featuring a collaboration with Vancouver rapper Merkules.

“The goal of Merkules and I was to create something that can stir the entire country to move regardless if you are a rocker, metal head or hip hop junky. We wanted to push the envelope with the next song, and we did, we created something never done before, we created Time Killaz.” comments Nat Jack.

Music Video – If Detroit River Could Speak – Watch here.

Today is the day! September 17th! Getting ready to pummel your ear drums with Windsor, ON’s THE APEX unleashing their new EP ‘Underbelly’ plus kicking off their two week ‘Fresh Out of The Foundry Tour’ with Regina’s The Man and His Machine across Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia (dates listed below). ‘Underbelly’ features three ear piercing blasts of extreme shrapnel, but what truly makes THE APEX interesting besides the full force of their technical brutality, is that vocalist Darren Marchand suffers from Neurogenic Stammering, which effects his speech where the brain won’t tell the mouth what to say, so he’s unable to carry on a normal conversation, but for some reason he’s able to scream all the lyrics live and that is how he gets to express himself vocally with the band.
