NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 18, 2017

For fans of Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Early Classic Thrash of the Big 4

Chilean/Canadian Thrashers SOCIAL ARSONIST – BC/AB Dates + Loud As Hell Fest

Chilean/Canadian thrash hybrid SOCIAL ARSONIST will be hitting the road for dates across British Columbia and Alberta for the month of May, which will then be followed by a tour of Chile and a return to Canada to perform at the Loud As Hell festival in Drumheller, AB (full dates listed below).

Formed in Chile in 2009 by bassist Dario Zuniga and guitarist Manuel Morgado, the two musicians were unable to locate the perfect vocalist in their home country and turned the World Wide Web. Finding Canadian singer Cayle Charlton, the duo worked with him for years via the internet, honing their material before taking the ultimate step of relocating to Canada.

With a full line up in Vancouver, BC, the fiery crucible of Chilean thrash met the icy cauldron of Canadian metal to create an explosive storm built on a foundation of classic thrash and modern metal resulting in two releases. Their 2016 full length ‘Duality of Perception’ and 2014 debut EP ‘De-Evolution of Thy Self’ both demonstrate the hardship of the band’s sound that is aggressive, fast, intense, catchy and disruptive.

Bassist Dario Zuniga reveals that SOCIAL ARSONIST are inspired by subjects beyond metal clichés.

“The whole album carries the Social Arsonist aggression and message of rebellion and anguish against the institutionalization of society plus we have a wide range of influences, including a South American flavouring that everyone seems to enjoy, and coming from South America just to play our music in Canada, we put a lot of effort and passion into our performance!”

0 NEWS: Canadian Atmospheric Post-Metal ABANDONED PALACE Offer Free Download “Shades of Autumn”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 14, 2017

Canadian Atmospheric Post-Metal ABANDONED PALACE Offer Free Download “Shades of Autumn”

Canadian atmospheric post-metal project ABANDONED PALACE have just released their new single “Shades of Autumn” for free download or pay-what-you-want via their Bandcamp site at the following link: https://abandonedpalace.bandcamp.com/track/shades-of-autumn

It’s been 2 years since the release of their self titled debut EP and mastermind Von Warugi (AKA Chris Warunki, drummer of prog metal band OmnisighT) says “This is just something to bridge the gap between our debut EP and the full length album to follow, likely late 2017.”

As for the alter-ego he states “It’s just a way to bring out my dark side musically and distinguish myself as a composer/producer. The drums really take a back seat to everything else going on within the songs; in fact I’m always writing the drum parts dead last, whereas in OmnisighT, the drums are my primary role and focus.”

ABANDONED PALACE was formed in 2013 (debut EP released in 2015) and involves Von Warugi handling all writing, instruments and production – you could almost call it a “solo project” were it not for the lead vocals and lyrics where he’s joined by his faithful collaborator, known only as “The Void”; whose contributions on “Shades of Autumn” range dynamically from whispers to black metal and death metal style vocals.

Lyrically “It’s a reflection on inevitability. Fear of what we all must face can be crippling, but there is much to appreciate along the way, just like the colours of fall. As time goes by, it can get easier to lose sight of that until it’s too late…” says The Void.

Musically, ABANDONED PALACE weave a somber spell of black, folk, doom, gothic and atmospheric metal to create an intoxicating concoction that would likely appeal to fans of Agalloch, Katatonia, Swallow The Sun and Coldworld.

About:

Powerful vocals, electrifying harmonica, and emotive performances are the characteristics that have made Matt Blais an artist of high regard. With the ability to enthrall audiences as a solo performer or thrill them with his band, the charismatic Blais expands the Canadiana genre by sharpening the edge of rock, blues, and folk. He is at home on stage, with many tours, festivals, and performances in Canada and countries around the world. Sharing the stage with some of Canada’s biggest acts like Blue Rodeo, The Trews, and The Strumbellas, (to name a few), has helped shape Blais into a consummate showman. Matt’s independently released recordings have garnered critical acclaim, sold thousands of copies, led to a collaboration with Sam Roberts, and earned him multiple awards such as “The Great American Song Contest” in 2016. His proudest accomplishment, however, is the lasting relationship he has with his fans. Having almost frozen to death when the tour van broke down in northern Canada to dragging his guitar through the Australian outback, Matt Blais is a dedicated troubadour in search of authentic experiences. He is living proof that hard work and honest artistry are present in today’s world and still desired by music lovers.

“Frontman Matt Blais knows how to work a crowd and he is far from afraid of showing off his talents.” – The Scene Magazine (Live Review – Indie Week 2013)

“Over the past five years, Matt Blais has been generating a catalogue of material that is both emotive and relatable. His passionate live performances demonstrate eagerness to create heartfelt songs and nowhere is more evident than on his newest album, The Heartbeat, where a poetic personality fuses with growing life experience.” – Beatroute AB.

That success, he says, has nudged him to step his game up, as a performer and songwriter, which he thinks he’s done with his latest release The Heartbeat,” – Calgary Herald

“Blais uses heavily-charged emotional lyrics as well as a gritty band behind him to produce a blues-slash-rock sounds, which has been commended by many local media sources. His sound is highlighted by a sometimes raspy voice, which helps to fill the total appearance of the band.” – Grande Prairie Herald

“His high energy set was a definite crowd pleaser, and everyone was up out of their seats for the entire performance. With a voice reminiscent of The Cat Empire (minus the accent), Blais powered through his rock songs, and showed his ability to go in a bluesy direction, with accompanying harmonica, that really brings out the grit in his vocals. Keeping with the theme of the opening acts, Blais brought in a cover of “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz that was thundering, with good horn additions to make it his own. He transitioned smoothly to Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition“, but a version that was slower, harder and very slick. Next, a cover of Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out“, full of the same joy and energy that Blais showed with the rest of the set, highlighting the great new material on the release. Fans eagerly streamed to the merch table, securing their own copy, which came free with paid entrance to the show.” – Live Review – YYC Music Calgary

Blankfest Calgary CBC Interview – http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/story/2012/11/04/calgary-blankfest-blanket-mustard-seed.html

“Firmly rooted in many of the genres that Matt Blais incorporates into his music, his raspy yet refined vocals point each song in the direction it was originally intended.” – Phylicia Tran – Spun – The Gauntlet

About:

www.metalocalypstickfest.rocks
www.facebook.com/metalocalypstickfest/

Formed in 2016 and based in Valemount, BC near Jasper National Park with the beautiful backdrop of the Canadian Rockies, METALOCALYSPTICK was created to present a unique experience within the Western Canadian metal community, a gathering of similar views, aspirations and musical taste. (similar to former mainstream music festival Lilith Fair.)

The festival was founded by Kaija Kinney of Vancouver’s Anarcheon after researching a lack of female based metal festivals to apply her band to, Kinney took matters into in her own and decided to produce the event.

“This festival means the celebration of both sexes coming together and creating something amazing. People like to say women in metal aren’t a big deal anymore and that we are all the same. I feel that is untrue, this is still a male dominated world and woman are still looked as lesser. I want to showcase all these bad ass ladies and celebrate the differences of men and woman rather than pretend we are all equal. Truth is we are different why can’t we celebrate that?” says Kinney.

The 1st annual Metalocalypstick in 2016 hosted female influenced metal bands from across Canada and the world such as Brazil’s Nervosa (Napalm Records), Egypt’s Massive Scar Era, Hollywood’s The Maension, Valfreya, Scythia, Mortillery (Napalm Records), Van Halst, Dead Asylum, Juliet Ruin, Violent Betty, Omega Crom, Körperlose Stimme, Elysium Echoes, Solborn, Monarch Sky, Forsaken Rite, Anarcheon, and Suspended.

Vancouver’s NINJASPY, a trio of blood brothers that have created a metal fusion of hard, heavy, hook-laden music that runs the gamut of reggae, surf and more will be releasing their next full length ‘Spüken’ due out April 14, 2017. The album is once again produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Gallows) and Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Atreyu, Haste the Day) to follow their 2013 EP / graphic novel ‘No Kata’ and 2007 debut ‘Pi Nature’. The album was crowd funded and helped the band raise $15,000 to record the new full length, which features a culmination of nearly a decade of songs that have been narrowed down to an epic 10 track experience to demonstrate all their downbeats to breakdowns to their weaving of reggae, hardcore, metal and much more.

Before its official release, NINJASPY have teamed up with Idioteq.com for exclusive full stream premiere of the album at the following link: http://www.idioteq.com/ninjaspy-spuken-record-premiere/

Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments:

“Spüken is the musical equivalent of a magician removing his own entrails. The guts just keep coming, like handkerchiefs from a sleeve, and its painful, colourful and cathartic all at once, in the same way that vomiting after hours of nausea is such a relief. The musical ideas that came together in this project span many years and come from many influences. Hearing them all together is a trip. There were a lot of hard times in the years while this record was being written and most, if not all of these songs are tied together by the search for something greater than oneself. Empowerment by going through ones pain, all this is woven into an album that is another spastic stylistic roller coaster not unlike our previous albums, but with smoother blending. From song to song there is a lot of variance, but within songs we have managed to take contrasting genres and combine them in more nuanced ways, with less hard cuts. This album is colourful, and the palette is dark.”

‘Spüken’
will be available as of April 14th on the band’s online store, iTunes, CD Baby and Bandcamp.

“witness their antics and groove metal.” – Beatroute (Live review Armstrong Metalfest 2016)

“this is one seriously cool album — a collection of inventive, head-spinning songs played by four extremely talented musicians.” – No Clean Singing (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)

“Although Slagduster’s music thrives on instrumental variation on themes within each song, with dynamic tempos and even occasional changes in time signature, the songs remain anchored to driving rhythms that organize the jumping, darting complexity of the music.”- No Clean Singing (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)

“This release is oddly appealing, intriguing, a little different and undeniably catchy.
Step outside your comfort zone and give this diverse chunk of metal a spin you may well be surprised as was I. Definite groove, unpredictable melodies all in a style that’s wholly enjoyable.” – Thy Demons Be Scribblin (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)

Ottawa, ON doom metal trio LONGHOUSE has teamed up with TheSludgelord for the exclusive full stream premiere of their sophomore album “II: Vanishing” due out digitally on Friday, April 14th plus will be available on physical cassette via Sunmask Records June 2017 (date to be determined). “II: Vanishing” follows their 2015 debut album ‘Earth from Water’, a spiritual odyssey into the perseverance of the human spirit and the lessons we can learn from the natural world.

Returning to Wolf Lake Studios to record with Mike Bond (Loviatar, Norilsk, Arms of the Girl) once again as producer and engineer. “II: Vanishing” continues the pleasing progression of their debut while retaining the band’s core sound of heavy, intricate riffs, splashed with a touch of post-metal to guide you on a dark and visceral journey spanning nearly 40 minutes over five tracks.

Vocalist / bassist comments:

“II: Vanishing has a logical evolution that is evident in the composition, as well as production. I also think that fans should take a moment to reflect on some of themes that are threaded throughout the album. The bulk of my ideas musically and lyrically come from exploring Indigenous ways of knowing. I am Algonquin First Nations. My family’s community is Kitigan Zibi, outside of Maniwaki, QC. However, I grew up in the city, mostly detached from my culture. As a father, I have been trying to immerse myself in the stories, wisdom, and strength of our Elders, knowledge keepers and story tellers, so that I can pass that on to my daughters. Because this takes up so much space in terms of who I am, and who I am becoming, it plays a very large part in terms of influences I draw upon.”

“II: Vanishing” can be heard at the following link: http://thesludgelord.blogspot.ca/2017/04/album-premiere-ottawa-ontarios.html

“These Canadian doomsters may have a penchant for blistering fuzz-laden riffs, but there’s just as much focus on this, their second album, on atmospherics. Post-metal-influenced sonics are integral from the opening moments of the album, and remain throughout….Longhouse are to be commended for one thing, it’s the skill with which they blend the elements of their sound to provide a full-length that is as primitive as it is sinister.” – Bonded By Metal – 8/10

“Man, I don’t think I’ve been this geeked out about a Canadian post-sludge record since Pyres put out Year of Sleep back in 2013!” – Hellbound.ca – 8/10

“It might only be 5 songs long but Longhouse do more in that time then many bands do in double that. It’s a doom masterpiece that isn’t afraid to mess around with different ideas.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“The one song from the album released for public listening so far is “No Name, No Marker“, and if you guess that refers to graves, you would be correct. It’s a riveting mix of doom and post-metal with blackened shrieking in the vocal department. After a haunting, grief-stricken opening, the track becomes heavier and more intense by orders of magnitude, eventually becoming a big juggernaut of earthquaking chugs and groaning chords, with guitar leads that shimmer, flicker, and spiral around the powerful rhythms like ghost lights. The wrenching vocals add to the music’s intensity, and the grinding bass solo is a nice touch as well.” – No Clean Singing

“This is an album that’s an extremely accomplished and enjoyable listen.  For a great mix of sludgy doom with progressive, post-metal and atmospheric elements, Longhouse might very well be one of my new favourites.” – Wonderbox Metal

For Fans of Symphony X, Dream Theater, Haken, Plini, Ayreon, Neal Morse Band, Genesis, Rush

Violin Meets Instrumental Prog Montreal’s CYDEMIND Announce New Album ‘Erosion’

Streaming New Track ‘What Remains’

L-R: Camille Delage (Keys), Nico Damoulianos (Bass), Olivier Allard (Violin), Alexandre Dagenais (Drums), Kevin Paquet (Guitars)

When instrumental prog metal meets violin, the outcome is truly a unique sound that sets a band apart from all others in their respective genre of music. Introducing Montreal’s CYDEMIND, their instrumental prog technique blended with violin as their vocal piece makes for an auditory experience like no other.

“I grew up listening to metal while playing classical music. I’ve always dreamed of merging these two musical environments that many would find conflicting. CYDEMIND is living proof they can actually be complimented perfectly together.” says violinist Olivier Allard.
Influenced by bands such as Symphony X, Dream Theater, Haken, Plini, Rush along with classical, jazz and progressive rock, CYDEMIND are ready to present their first full length album ‘Erosion’ on May 26th, 2017 to follow their 2014 debut EP ‘Through Mist and Ages’.  The album was recorded in Montreal at The Grid with producer Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) along with additional recording of grand piano done at Studio 270.

“Even if we are a metal band, classical music is part of our identity and it was clear starting the project that we wanted to record with the most acoustic instruments possible.” explains Camille Delage, a graduate of classical piano from CEGEP St-Laurent in Montreal.

‘Erosion’ consists of six compositions including a 27 minute masterpiece of the album’s title track, making the release CYDEMIND‘s most ambitious project to date. The album artwork was done by drummer and band co-founder Alexandre Dagenais along with lyrical poems included with the release written by pianist Camille Delage. The poems describe each composition as the album gravitates around the theme of nature and its persistence through time.

CYDEMIND‘s first single ‘What Remains’ is now streaming at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUAl4FaXaf0

‘Erosion’ will be available on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify and all other major online retailers as of May 26, 2017.
