Once again, Armstrong Metal Fest is proud to announce that this year’s Vancouver Whammy Award winner for Best Local Metal Artist will be playing on the 2018 edition. Festival co-organizer Jesse Valstar will be presenting the award.

Over the last nine years the festival has hosted a long list of bands such as Revocation, Cattle Decapitation, Suffocation, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil, The Zenith Passage, Anciients, Bison, Striker, Archspire, Cryptopsy, Unleash The Archers, Ninjaspy, Vesperia, Aggression among many others for British Columbia’s largest gathering of metalheads from across Western Canada and beyond.

Planning their 2018 edition, early bird pre-sale tickets for AMF are now on sale for a limited time until February 1, 2018 for a special price of $95 CAD. Tickets can be purchased at the following link: https://armstrongmetalfest.ca/tickets/

All tickets provide General Admission and grant access to the festival grounds, camping area and arena from 11:00 AM on Friday, July 13, 2018 until 11:59 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2018. Free camping is included.

Taking influence from Europe’s music festival circuit, Armstrong Metal Fest is a heavy metal celebration that encourages metal heads from across Canada and the globe to mosh and camp with the backdrop of great outdoors of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. What started as a backyard party in 2009 with nothing but eleven local metal bands such as Terrifier, Xul and Odinfist to name a few, has grown into a a huge success admired by the Western Canadian Metal scene. 2017 was the ninth year of the festival and was its largest year for music and attendance. Moonlight Desires might only play 80s cover songs, but you’d be wrong to dismiss them as just another cover band. Formed by long-time Hamilton, ON musician Trevor Ziebarth (Actor/Writer/Composer on Teletoon’s adult comedy series Sons of Butcher), Moonlight Desires is his ode to the raunchy romances and youthful misadventures of summer’s past. By re-working synth laden pop hits of the 1980s, Ziebarth manages to turn familiar guilty pleasures into modern, guitar-driven rock anthems.

Joined in the studio by drummer Dave Dunham (Not Of, DAVIDS, ex-Chore, ex-Sons Of Butcher) and lead guitarist Marco Bressette (Dead Tired, ex-Threat Signal), their new album “Just The Hits: 1981-1985” transforms timeless hits such as “Sunglasses At Night” by Corey Hart and “Something About You” by Level 42 into party rock anthems.

Inspired by artists as diverse as Radiohead, Meshuggah, Deftones, James Blake, Jean Baudin, Die Antwoord, Clint Mansell, Igorrr, Arvo Part and Hans Zimmer, Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I’s was created by lynchpin Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH whom was driven to form the group when his previous band Unexpect parted ways.

Experimenting with elements of prog, djent, funk, and electronic sampling plus featuring his frankenstein 9 string bass, VVON DOGMA I are now streaming their debut EP “Communion” for its official release today on October 27th. Frederick hopes that fans will get something truly special from the music that is a blend of everything he is musically and is definitely more accessible than what he has done in the past. The EP is a true trip for lovers of outside the box thinking with its bashing low ends to its pummeling and dominating 9 string bass accompanied by the ripping of an 8 string guitar along with some morbid electronic samples for good measure.

“I wanted to feature my freak instrument of a nine-string bass. It is often a Frankenstein of bits and pieces of writing. But I also want people to know it’s not about shredding or anything. I wanted to see how I could apply this weird playing style in a musically accessible venue. My art is song writing plus arranging and the 9 string is only one aspect of it. I find it definitely adds an interesting flavor. Hopefully people will see it for what it is as a whole.”

Inspired by Lamb of God, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, ARISEN FROM NOTHING’s sound can be best described as “aggressive, driving, groovy, powerful, brutal”. Their new EP draws influence from the state of the world around us and is a strident call for unity. As a whole, the EP is best described as their own twist on modern heavy metal, doing their best to deliver an element of groove that you can bob your head and tap your feet too, while remaining aggressive and fast enough to windmill and mosh. Rich melodic choruses, a lot of underlying melody in the riffs and solos, and drums that you feel in your chest.

Unleashing their third studio album “Vertigo” in Europe last December via Rockshot Records, Italian symphonic metallers Sound Storm have now made the release available in North America officially as of October 13th.

“Vertigo” was produced in the Netherlands at Sandlane Recording Facilities with Joost Van Den Broek (Epica, Ayreon, Xandria) and is something more than a metal album, the music has a cinematic purpose. The overall concept of “Vertigo” is a Victorian – steam punk story, firstly based on Dante’s Inferno idea and then developed to a more psychological/introspective tale. Gabriel is the main character of the story, an unsuccessful composer who becomes a scientist, starting a war against his troubled mind and forcing himself to destroy everything beloved. The only handhold seems to be a mystic dragonfly, leading Gabriel among the floors of a huge spiral staircase.

Music video “Forsaken” filmed during the band’s performance at the 2016 Lucca Comics and Games, one of Europe’s largest comic cons.

Unleashing three well-received albums under their bullet-belts (‘Demonarchy’, ‘Blood, Guts and Dirt’, ‘III’), this Montreal, QC power-trio’s fourth assault “Invaders” hits the mosh pit on October 13th via Plan B Music.
