From Rush to Voivod, the Science-Fantasy album has long been an integral part of the heavy metal cannon; now; carrying this proud tradition into the 21st century is XAEL.

Founded by Nassaru of Rapheumets Well/Enthean as well as Sorgiem “Daniel Presnell,” Tuurm “Alex Rush” from Enthean, and Xolotl “Fernando Ortega” and featuring various guest artists, XAEL is influenced by Septic Flesh, Iron Maiden, Augury, Wardruna and Fleshgod Apocalypse, vocalist / guitarist / studio drummer Nassaru describes the band’s music as “a thought provoking metal journey.”

Making their mark with the premiere of their debut video “Apathy of The Immortal” exclusively on NoCleanSinging.com, the band offers a visually capturing representation of their extreme music and sci-fi storytelling.

The band comments:

“This is the first in our series of videos to come that take place on this foreign planet. This was a community effort, with an artist from our local scene coming together to make this video happen.  We are wanting to both represent musically as well as visually our story, which is both science fantasy based as well as relatable to our journey to understand ourselves. Apathy of the Immortal takes place a bit into the story.  The immortal wayfarer, after venturing to this hostile planet finds himself burdened by his past and the degrading endeavors of sentient life. Accompanied by the “Watchers of Xan” a resistance group on Tymeer, he finds that his body regenerates time after time, but his mental capacity for coping with this lengthen life span is diminishing, causing him to have disassociation and hallucinations.  One such hallucination is seeing a demonic apparition of “Time” and its acolyte “Decay”. For time cannot touch the wayfarer, it taunts him with its ability to take away the world around him.   This song is a reflection of the fear of what the future holds and our control over such events.“

Watch “Apathy of The Immortal” at the following link: http://www.nocleansinging.com/2017/12/20/an-ncs-video-premiere-xael-apathy-of-the-immortal/

Recently signing to Vancouver, BC’s TEST YOUR METAL RECORDS, XAEL and the record label will be unleashing the band’s music in a unique approach to debut their music in 2018.

Vocalist / guitarist / studio drummer Nassaru explains:

“We will have eight songs standard and two instrumental tracks. Instead of releasing an album upfront, we want fans to share in our progress in a musical series, releasing two songs a month to allow more time for fans to appreciate the work and for us to best represent the songs in some form of art to convey the entirety of our vision….The album series is called ‘The Last Arbiter’, referring to the protagonist’s mission in the story and his pursuit of an unattainable purpose in pacifying the destructive nature of the sentient world.” Nassaru adds. “It will be different and very diverse, but at its core it is extreme metal, melodies in abundance, and storytelling bard style! So I believe it will be refreshing…something different combining symphonic and folk elements with brutal metal…We want to paint a soundscape, a myriad of imaginative and diverse environments while exploring the complications of being sentient and self-aware.”

Once again, Canada’s molten cauldron of metal, its crucible of carnage, spews forth a new release from one of its fine bands, the splendidly named VANTABLACK WARSHIP. Formed by veterans of the Quebec metal scene (Arseniq33, Ghoulunatics, Brutal Chérie, Foreshadow, Les Ékorchés, Buffalo Theory Mtl), this Montreal quintet conjures up images of a neon black pirate ship come to wage a metal storm on an unsuspecting Earth.

Metal legend Tony Dolan, AKA The Demolition Man of Venom Inc. recently described VANTABLACK WARSHIP as a “Cool Slayer”.

Set to unleash their new album “Abrasive Pulmonic Speak” on Jan 26th, 2018 to follow their well celebrated 2015 self-titled EP. The band is sharing their second teaser for the upcoming release. Listen to a glimpse of what’s to come at the following links:

2nd Album Teaser:

1st Album Teaser:

The new album features eight tracks of just solid riffage from heavy hardcore speed demon ripping to sludgy down tunes all applied with dirty in your face vocals ready to destroy with its moshpit anthems. From tracks like “Blood On The Mat”, a graphic account of women in the UFC to “The Blackhole” about Raider Nation football fans and “Another Dead Rockstar”, not to be taken too literally, about washed up musicians still chasing the dream, but in the end sowing a path of disrepute and shame. These tracks all have a story to tell.

Guitarist Pat Gordon comments:

“Abrasive Pulmonic Speak”, the title of our album is a testimony to the harshness of our lyrics and music. They are pretty hardcore! But it also refers to the title track, which is based on the works of Henry Miller. He was expatriated for some of his earlier works that he put into print that at those times people never dared say out loud.  We are trying to channel that but from another an angle which is the stereotype that comes with metal music, which, quite frankly is tired. We have metalheads that are well into their 60s and 70s today. It’s annoying that people see us as a subculture when in fact we are a very legitimate culture.”

“Abrasive Pulmonic Speak” is available for pre-order at the following link here.

For those in the Montreal area, VANTABLACK WARSHIP will be hosting their CD launch show on February 10th at Katacombes with Floating Widget and Dizzygoth. Details can be found here.

“Vantablack Warship is a destructive machine live. Something to do with the heaviness of the sound! It echoes the decibel breaking Motorhead was known for with their loud amps. We are straight to the point non-stop metal! No dawdling around on stage and useless banter. We set a good atmosphere and interrelate well with the crowd. Vantablack Warship to the max!”

Show Dates:
Feb 10 – Montreal, QC – Katacombes

Track Listing:
1. Another Dead Rockstar (3:04)
2. Black Tongue Bertha (2:41)
3. Blood On The Mat (3:00)
4. Kill The Kid (2:44)
5. Ruderalis (2:26)
6. Abrasive Pulmonic Speak (2:57)
7. The Blackhole (2:52)
8. Crisis (4:57)
Album Length: 24:45

– Pat Gordon – Guitar
– Yannick Pilon – Vocals
– Thierry Hivon – Guitar
– Kurt Clifford – Bass
– Pierre Pitre – Drums

“It’s a menacing mix of explosive thrash and you can let it pummel your senses by hitting play” – Exclaim!

“thrash, groove and gnarly vocals…it’s metal from start to finish and yet the overwhelming sense throughout is that this band’s attitude is punk to the core.”  – Five Albums

“Assurément un groupe québécois à suivre et à ne pas manquer lorsqu’ils se produiront en spectacle dans votre région. Croyez-moi sur parole, Vantablack Warship – le mini-album et le groupe – fera date dans l’histoire de notre métal. ” – Muzik Injection

“The six songs are exactly what you would expect from a band in this genre, hard, ruthless, aggressive and this with a healthy dose of “f*ck the world and all in it” attitude…With this short record, Vantablack Warship shows they fit right into the current crossover scene and fans of bands like Municipal Waste or Suicidal Tendencies can surely appreciate this little piece of work.” – Lords of Metal

“It’s a hard hitting good time from start to end, no weak spots. It’s a mind bending cluster fuck to the tenth power. The vocals through out the album, so rich, yet so creative and they are their own thing. The melodies and mixing, everything has been extraordinary. It was more than a pleasure to listen to this!” – Taste of Khaos

“play a remarkably catchy brand of rocking deaththrash” – The Killchain Blog

“I’m very much digging it and hopefully there will be more coming from Vantablack Warship because I’ll be spinning this one over and over again.” – Thy Demons Be Scribblin

” Vantablack Warship wear their influences for all to see, there is, thankfully, no doubt that they have a sound that is all their own, or at least a sound made their own. Opening track You’ll Burn brings to mind Entombed’s 1993 classic Wolverine Blues, – as do all six tracks, in fact – but never to the point of plagiarism, and although Cancer Bats, Pantera and Slayer are all obvious influences too, there is no sense that you’re hearing a poor imitation, just a kick ass band with great taste in music.” – Morat 666

0 NEWS: GearGods Premiere VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect) 9 String Bass Frankenstein Playthrough For “The Mask”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – December 14, 2017

For fans of Experimental Prog Funk Djent, Animals As Leaders, Felix Martin, Plini, Between The Buried And Me

GearGods Premiere VVON DOGMA I (ex-Unexpect) Bassist’s 9 String Frankenstein Playthrough For “The Mask”

Created By Ex-Unexpect Bassist

Out Now Debut EP “Communion”

Unleashing their debut EP “Communion” this past October, extreme bassist Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH of Montreal’s VVON DOGMA I has teamed up with GearGods.net for the premiere of his latest playthrough with his 9 string Frankenstein bass for the track “The Mask”.

“Most music featuring extended range instruments is all about technique. I wanted to bring the 9 string bass forward, but focus on songwriting more than fretboard theatrics.” says Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH.

Watch this epic video for yourself at the following link: http://geargods.net/playthrough/vvon-dogma-chaoth-ex-unexpect-plays-9-string-bass-in-this-exclusive-playthrough-for-the-mask/

Inspired by artists as diverse as Radiohead, Meshuggah, Deftones, James Blake, Jean Baudin, Die Antwoord, Clint Mansell, Igorrr, Arvo Part and Hans Zimmer,  VVON DOGMA I was created by lynchpin Frederick Filiatrault aka ChaotH whom was driven to form the group when his previous band Unexpect parted ways.

Experimenting with elements of prog, djent, funk, and electronic sampling plus featuring his Frankenstein 9 string bass, VVON DOGMA I‘s debut EP “Communion” is a true trip for lovers of outside the box thinking. Full of bashing low ends to its pummeling and dominating 9 string bass accompanied by the ripping of an 8 string guitar along with some morbid electronic samples for good measure.

“I wanted to feature my freak instrument of a nine-string bass. It is often a Frankenstein of bits and pieces of writing. But I also want people to know it’s not about shredding or anything. I wanted to see how I could apply this weird playing style in a musically accessible venue. My art is song writing plus arranging and the 9 string is only one aspect of it. I find it definitely adds an interesting flavor. Hopefully people will see it for what it is as a whole.”

“It sounds like Cynic mixed with The Algorithm, Last Chance To Reason, and others. It’s a shame this is only an EP, because I wand so much more.” – Metal Injection“It’s very much a ‘thinking outside of the box’ type of EP, with many different instruments and musical styles blended together.” – PureGrainAudio

“Chaoth (Frederick Filiatrault) is undoubtedly a member of the ranks of the most outstanding Canadian musicians.” – Silence-Magazin

“We may have the arrival of a whole new genre or style of music with what’s happening here from Montreal, Quebec’s Vvon Dogma I. Having just released the “Communion” EP in recent days, the music contained upon it is quite forward thinking progressive metal at its roots.” – Riff Relevant

“Chaoth is a M-A-S-T-E-R at what he does on the bass. At not a single point does he sink to the lower three strings, to prove how djent he can be, for more than ten seconds, and never does he get too noodly to enjoy what’s going on. The guy can fuckin’ PLAY a bass…What I immediately noticed with the Communion EP was that all the songs (there are four) sounded really well rounded… what it SOUNDS like is the unholy child of Les Claypool and Meshuggah. Just picture that for a second.” – Blood Rock Media

“Vvon Dogma I’s new EP has more than twice as many bass strings than tracks…an explosive look at Frederick Filliatrault’s new project, one that he conceived almost entirely as an excuse to write with his nine-string bass. Yep. Nine strings. On a bass…the Canadian band’s debut starts them off strong.” – All About The Rock

“a very unique EP.” – Games, Braaains & A Headbanging Life

“Vvon Dogma I really makes you feel that there is a well planned progression that aims to make you go through different stages until you reach a safe place” – RTMB Music

“”Communion projects a cocktail of Creative Rock and Metal of outstanding quality that will appeal to the connoisseur of all things out there in prog and avant-garde space. This is some wild shit. And does the RMR office suite like wild? Damn straight we do. And so should you – get some.” – Rock Music Raider

“This is a band that have managed to create their own brand of odd progressive metal…This is a band that does to djent what Claypool does to funk and Patton does to rock and metal. An out there and challenging affair, and most likely with more of a niche appeal due to that. But those who get it will enjoy this stuff immensely.” – Progressor

About:

Two things always contribute to creating epic original black metal…

One is location, and by being based in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains provide the ideal canvas for technical symphonic black metal band Sar Isatum to sweep broad musical brush strokes across a vast vista, musically, mentally, and physically.

The second is lyrical inspiration. Sar Isatum eschew all the usual flogged- to-death lyrical clichés of black metal to take inspiration from a variety of sources. The very name Sar Isatum comes from the Sumerian dialect. It means ‘King of Fire.’ Indeed, both the Sumerian and Annunaki empires provide strong lyrical inspiration.

Inspired by Emperor, Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth, Sothis and Craft, band member J.P Dalkhu describes Sar Isatum’s music as “ethereal, nefarious, repugnant, abhorrent, cryptic.”

Sar Isatum have high expectations of their upcoming debut album, but at the same time, Sar Isatum create music for themselves, not copying what has come before, but fans of various styles of black metal will find much to appreciate here. As Dalkhu so lyrically says Sar Isatum create “a variation of extreme and atmospheric black metal as if one went through a burning battlefield and witnessed horrid devastation.” Dalkhu feels that this is the best band its members have ever been a part of and are constantly evolving as musicians.

Lyrically, Demothi of Sar Isatum very much ploughs his own furrow, creating songs that feel as though they have always existed, a part of the fabric of space and time. “Sar Isatum’s lyrics are inspired by native folklore, science fiction, historical events, extraterrestrial theory and the reimagining of biblical happenings from outside points- of- view.”

(bio written by Steve Earles)

– 30 –

“Combining symphonic, atmospheric and pummeling elements of black metal history, the band conjures an impressive battle cry that any grim fan can easily connect with.” – Metal Injection

“Sar Isatum is Sumerian, meaning “King of Fire”, and they even incorporate lyrical themes therefrom. Combined with their own majestic vistas of the Rocky Mountains, the combination makes for mighty sweepingly soaring black metal.” – No Clean Singing

“Sar Isatum are not messing about…Great symphonic black does not find its way onto my radar as often as it should these days but the ritualistic drumming leading into a blistering, well produced assault of technical obsidian majesty felt like a clarion-call charge into battle and served well as a savage statement of intent.” – Black Metal Daily

“Sar Isatum may be unknown, but they know how to kick derriere and that’s exactly what their Shurpu debut does…. have left a positive impression and placed themselves on the radar as a US black metal band worth keeping a close eye on.” – Angry Metal Guy

“The trio, JP Dalkhu, Damothi and CC conjure up a pretty tight sound, precisely delivered drum work, brutal, technical blackened riffing, a crushingly dark underlying groove, slick direction switching and an acerbic vocal delivery, what’s not to like!” – Metal Talk

“Two things always contribute to creating epic original black metal. One is location, and by being based in Colorado, the Rocky Mountains provide the ideal canvas for technical symphonic black metal band SAR ISATUM to sweep broad musical brush strokes across a vast vista, musically, mentally, and physically.” The Grim Reader

“Sar Isatum’s debut album marks a very mature and well defined sound for the band. It really shouldn’t be a first album, and therefore shows too much promise. Songs may cross over each other but they tread on themselves in a fast horde of fiercely proud evil. Shurpu is a effortlessly proud album ready to stand its own amongst the rest of the horned dragons of Black Metal. There will be a lot more from Sar Isatum.” – Noizze UK

“the band has assembled a collection of gripping songs with good variation on their 35-minute debut” – Gorger’s Metal

“Taking a cue from the classic Norwegian black metal crowd, Sar Isatum is an intense explosion of black metal fury backed by a melodic symphonic, and slightly theatrical, atmosphere. It’s unrelenting on all fronts. While the intensity is unending, the songs are also well structured with infectious riffing that keeps your attention and easily worms into your gooey brain. This album fucking kills.  It’s nice to hear some awesomely ferocious and nasty black metal coming out of my home state.” – Metal Marks The Spot

About:

“Dreams are rudiments of the great state to come. We dream what is about to happen.”

From-‘The Wordsworth Dictionary of Dreams’

All human creativity springs from our dreams. When we ‘sleep, perchance to dream’ as William Shakespeare memorably wrote, we tap into the deep creative wellspring within us all. It is a universal truth that anything new has to be thought before it can forged by inspired hands and minds into new forms; endless, inspiring and beautiful.

Such a dream-creation is symphonic power metal band TRAGUL; the very name a product of a dream of its creator, keyboardist and composer Adrian Benegas. As Benegas explains.

“It describes the union between the inner divine spirit and the human being through music. I decided to use the word Tragul, not only because it was born from an inner experience, but because I always wanted to be unique and what is more unique than to use a name that other bands can’t have? I am very into esoteric matters. I am always looking for answers in that field, so I take very seriously everything related to it.”

Inspired by Nightwish, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Dionysus, Benegas describes TRAGUL’s music as “strong, melodic, dramatic, rhythmic, and bright.” Tragul’s members, vocalist Zuberoa Aznarez (Diabulus In Musica), guitarist Steve Conley (Flotsam and Jetsam), bassist Oliver Holzwarth (ex Blind Guardian, ex Rhapsody of Fire, ex Tarja) and drummer Alex Holzwarth (ex Rhapsody of Fire) bring a galaxy of talent to enhance and execute Benegas’ sonic dreamscapes.

As befits such a musically innovative band, TRAGUL are exploring new nontraditional worlds when it comes to getting their music heard. TRAGUL’s releases come in a song-by-song format on all the major digital platforms.

“Grimtone pour the dark sound on thickly with Souls Reborn in Hate. A raging style of black metal, the wild intensity of the riffs & beats plays off the hellish vocals perfectly.” – Games, Brrrains & A Headbanging Life

“Swedish black metal band Grimtone may be new to the music scene but the band arrives with an already impressive pedigree… If you are after a brutal 45 minutes of grim, black rage this album is for you. ” – Overdrive Mag

Rockshots Records Unleash Finnish Heavy Metallers WOLFSHEAD New Album “Leaden”

Finnish metallers WOLFSHEAD unleash their new album “Leaden”, out today December 8th in North America via Rockshots and was earlier released in Europe one October 27th. WOLFHEAD’s style is pure old school heavy metal, heavy guitar riffs, growling bass, pounding drums with bluesy, leather-lunged whisky-scented vocals on top. Taking their main influences from such acts as Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Venom and the whole NWOBHM movement, WOLFSHEAD manages to combine almost everything from heavy rock music from between 1967 and 1985 to their own unique blend of doom metal. They write songs about lycanthropy, the living dead, witch hunts, Cthulhu Mythos and of course, heavy metal itself.

A few months later they gathered to a rehearsal room with a mutual friend, drummer Jussi Risto and in moments it was destined the trio would form Wolfshead with vocalist Tero Laine joining the line up soon after. In summer 2012, Wolfshead released their first demo and begun playing gigs.By 2014, the band released their second demo MMXIV, which was then followed by their 2015 EP “Caput Lupinum”. VANTABLACK WARSHIP Unleash Album Teaser For “Abrasive Pulmonic Speak” Due Out Jan 26th

The band has shared a teaser of their new sounds at the following link:

VANTABLACK WARSHIP is:

– Yannick Pilon – Vocals
– Thierry Hivon – Guitar
– Kurt Clifford – Bass

About:What does a DIY Canadian rock duo do after charting on the National Loud Chart, releasing a viral video-game anthem and touring the globe in the wake of critical reviews and mainstream press?

Whatever they want.

The newest newest offering of hard-rock mad-science from Double Experience is “Rock (Geology)”; a continuation of the band’s 5 year series of music released on collectible trading cards. The first, FACTOR-funded single, “The Pilot” was released on November 16, 2017.

In fact, the only thing ‘conventional’ about Double Experience is their undying affinity for comic convention culture. The band have performed for audiences at Ottawa and Montreal ComicCon as well as many other gatherings such as MAGFest and GuardianCon. Their Destiny-inspired single “The Glimmer Shot” even earned in-game accolades from Bungie, the developer of the multi-million user franchise. Double Experience’s quirky lyrical content has connected with hundreds of thousands of Spotify listeners and their undeniable live show has been perfected over hundreds of performances at clubs and festivals across 16 countries.

Double Experience’s DIY-story and business acumen has been shared at music industry conventions (IndieWeek) and hundreds of high schools and colleges across the world. Since the band’s inception in 2014, Band members Ian Nichols (vocals, bass) and Brock Tinsley (guitar) have established themselves as the nucleus of a dynamic alchemy of players, collaborating with musicians such as Fred Mascherino (Taking Back Sunday, Terrible Things) and Steve Bache (He is Legend) in studio and onstage.

You have been slain by the band biography… Continue?

“Their new album is upbeat and full of awesome tracks, leading straight into the first song, ‘So fine‘, which instantly gets you into the mood of this album.” – Ram Zine (UK)

“Verifying my “nerd” suspicions, they began and closed an original song with Darth Vader’s theme, the Imperial March, and I couldn’t have been happier about it. In addition to their set of mainly original music, they also included a cover of Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla, which was fitting with their stoner vibe, especially considering there is also a Fu Manchu version.” – Spotlight Ottawa

“this band is passionate about video games which is reflected in the underlying themes of their music. More apparent to non-video game savvy listeners is that Double Experience are a solid rock band with well crafted and catchy tunes that have crossover appeal to fans of different music genres.” – Forget The Box

“The songs on this, 9 track, album are narrative driven and mammoth in proportion. Songs like ‘AAA‘ and ‘Godzilla‘ are glorious sagas of esoteric depth. There is a power on this album that is both new and old.” – 925 Rebellion

Instrumental Prog Metal THE DEAD CENTURIES Premiere “Overdrive” ft. James Krul (Mandroid Echostar) via The Prog Report

Debut Album “Race Against Time” Out Jan 26th, 2018

L-R – Bryant McNamara – Drums, Adam Tremblett – Guitar, Jacob McSheffrey – Guitar (Photo Credit: Adrienne Row-Smith)

Visionary and highly influential writer Michael Moorcock, who worked with the bands Hawkwind and Blue Oyster Cult, memorably stated that ‘it is the business of the future to be dangerous’.

Ottawa three-piece THE DEAD CENTURIES are both futuristic and dangerous…which is as it should be. Influenced by Protest The Hero, Periphery, Paul Gilbert, Sithu Aye and Intervals, THE DEAD CENTURIES can easily hold their heads up in such exalted company.

Composing and performing technically precise instrumental progressive metal, THE DEAD CENTURIES are rich in virtuosity, melody, compositional skills, and most importantly…they create superb music to listen to. This isn’t the sound of three musicians showing off their undoubted skills, rather they are serving their songs above all else, with every fibre of their beings, every neuron firing in their minds, every tendon in their bodies. In a sense it is as if the three musicians that make up THE DEAD CENTURIES have become one mind in their own music.

Set to unleash their debut album “Race Against Time” on January 26th, 2018, the full length features ten tracks of melodic, high energy and refreshing material. Full of hook and sinker tracks, shining guitar riffs and overall escapades through their instrumental progressive metal has to offer.

Guitarist Adam Tremblett comments:

“The album title “Race Against Time” is loosely representative of the experience writing, recording, and preparing the collection of songs. Throughout the process there have been band member changes, last minute rewrites, and several other testing circumstances. These have only served to further determine The Dead Centuries to release a high quality release that truly represents the band as a whole.”

Teaming up with The Prog Report, the trio premiere their first single “Overdrive” that features a guest guitar solo from Mandroid Echostar’s James Krul.

Tremblett adds:

“Overdrive is a very melodic, upbeat song, with the focus being on fun singable melodies. Starting with a half tempo clean theme, the song then picks up, keeping the melody, but adding heavier rhythm and more energy. There are several guitar harmonies throughout, a staple of the album. The song also features the album’s second guest, James Krul (Mandroid Echostar), again by way of a guitar solo trade off.”
