New Brunswick’s ECMA and Music NB award winning mantra doom duo ZAUM announce they will be embarking on Canadian dates in Ontario and Quebec (dates listed below) with support from Sweden’s FIREBREATHER whom the band toured Europe with last year (watch their music video “Release The Lava” here.)

ZAUM‘s Kyle Alexander McDonald comments:

“We’re floored to have FIREBREATHER join us for this Canadian tour, much of which was a makeup for the cities we missed last summer. We toured three weeks across Europe with the 3-piece Swedish stoner doom band and are very close with them both personally and also intertwined with them lore wise within ZAUM. Their lead vocalist Mattias sang a part on our last album and will be performing that live with us here in Canada for the first time. Our intentions are to head directly into the studio afterwards and finish album #3 with a 2019 release in mind.”

ZAUM’s second and latest full length musical chapter “Eidolon” was released October 24, 2016 via I HATE Records with distribution via Plastic Head/Sony Music throughout Europe and Century Media in North America to follow their 2014 debut album “Oracles”. In their three years as an active touring band ZAUM have amassed 200+ shows (mainly international) under their belts including support stints for Voivod, Pentagram, and Cauldron.

ZAUM is a passage toward the dark realizations of the old world; a monolithic doomy mantra based meditative experience forged by bass and drums interwoven with sitar, woodwind, string and synth textures. Based in Moncton, NB – observers experience a tranquil resonance whereby the astral and physical planes can co-exist and be understood from a natural perspective.

Born out of the emerging metal scene of Calgary, AB, RED CAIN is a modern melodic metal project with European roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and eerie ambient elements, RED CAIN champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience. Described by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, RED CAIN delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Draconian, Marilyn Manson, whipped into a venomous new shape. “”Sky On Fire” switches gears from the previous track on the EP “Apex Predator”, beginning with acoustic guitars, melodious vocal lines, and soft instrumentation. The latter half of the “Sky On Fire” turns up the energy as the guitars are distorted, the vocals rise in volume, and a dramatic, wrenching climax is reached. The song also features a string section during its closing chorus. The drum skins were covered with paper during recording to achieve a ‘muted’ sound, appropriate for the song’s melancholic vibe.”

The band adds:

“Speak True Evil is a showcase for Kill No Albatross’ dynamic, technically proficient, intellectual approach to rock music. These four songs cover musical ground that ranges from furious to sweet, hopeful to agonized. The powerful vocals of Kyle Collins pair with the tight, impassioned instrumentation to create a unique sound that is as meticulous as it is robust. Going more in depth on the release, it plays off the title of Wayne Shorter’s 1966 jazz record “Speak No Evil”; “Speak True Evil” asserts the legitimacy of free speech as asserted by thinkers like Mill, Paine, Luxemburg, and Hitchens. As Mill writes, ‘If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.’ After all, it is as much the right of the listener to hear as it is the speaker to talk – enforced silence imprisons man in the cage of his own perspective. The title, then, encourages listeners to speak true evil.”

It’s a tribute to the diversity and creativity of the metal genre that a band can still come up with a totally new inspiration for their music. Such a band is MONGOL!

Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, MONGOL’s folk metal is inspired by the ancient Mongolian Empire, which was the largest land empire in history, at various times it included China, Korea, Mongolia, Persia (now Iran), Turkestan, and Armenia. It also included parts of Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, and Russia. This Empire increased contacts between people; and enabled the introduction of such innovations as paper, the compass and gunpowder. It is no exaggeration to say the Mongolian Empire helped shape the modern world.

Now, MONGOL stand poised to unleash their latest album ‘The Return’, inspired by an ancient Mongolian prophecy of the return of Genghis Khan, Lord of All the People Dwelling in Felt Tents, from his grave. In the album, on seeing the sorry state of the world today, Genghis seeks to remake it as the New World Khanate.

Inspired by Kalmah, Wolfchant, Falconer, Dimmu Borgir, lead guitarist Luke Barry (Zev) describes MONGOL’s sound as “melodic, eclectic, diverse, genre-defying, epic!”

As he explains. “We derived the band name, Mongol, from the fierce warriors of the Mongolian Steppe. To draw inspiration we have watched Mongolian films and read their oldest text “The Secret History of the Mongols” and other source material. In addition to this we have traveled to Mongolia and spent some time there, which was a great wellspring of inspiration.”

Live, MONGOL resembles the warriors that inspired them, “bringing a unique energy to the stage that showcases our vast spanning sound perfectly. When the crowd isn’t banging their heads to one of our heavier songs, they are dancing joyously or clinking their beers with brethren in the mosh pit, singing along to catchy melodic choruses!”

“The Return” is due out via Sliptrick Records on October 5th, 2018.

Since climbing out of a volcano in 2008, shrouded in metal and ash, Lords of the Trident have gone to battle on many stages across the USA, playing and headlining a plethora of festivals and have an admirable arsenal of recordings in their inventory. A very ambitious band passionate about writing and playing extreme music, Ottawa ON’s OMINOUS ECLIPSE draws their inspiration from a wide variety of genres to create a unique hybrid sound with death metal being the main aspect combined with elements of thrash, groove, black, melodic, etc. Active since 2014, OMINOUS ECLIPSE has been making waves on the local scene opening for names such as Revocation, The Agonist, Kalmah, Archspire, Incantation, Vesperia, Beyond Creation, Rivers of Nihil to name a few. In the same year of their conception, they unleashed a four song EP “Beyond The Apocalypse” with a full length “End Of Days” following not long after in 2015. Now in 2018, they return with their sophomore album “Sinister” due out September 14th.

“There’s no concept or theme on this album so all the songs have different meaning. The title track itself divulges into the inevitable end to humanity and potentially the world with it. It discusses the issues around the globe and also addresses the ignorance and selfishness of those indirectly affected by the chaos. It has a strong “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” theme in regards to how people can turn their backs on those in need in order to save their own skin, which ironically will lead to our end as it causes people to turn on each other. Musically for this album, you will notice we have evolved from the first release and have moved away from thrashy overtones to become more diverse including more heavily stated melodic and technical with a solid groove and death foundation.”

The art series honors classic horror/sci-fi films and the creative promotional art that was presented to the public at the time of their premiere dates. All of these films represented in this art series are celebrating a milestone anniversary of their release and the impact they have made in pop culture history. Artist Damon Kardon has chosen specific films that influenced him over the years through their distinct tone, cinematography and direction. He is expressing his emotions felt from viewing each film through his art process of painting key images and colors that also represent the story of each film. Each poster design starts as a painting and then is manipulated in photoshop.

Kardon comments:

“As a kid who loved going to the movies and also enjoyed the classic painted poster designs of Drew Struzan, I dreamed of bringing my art style into the world of interpretive movie posters. The term “Epilogue” in film represents the final scenes in which a recap or narrative of what happens to the characters is given.
