NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 30, 2019

For fans of Ihsahn, Opeth, Borknagar

ASHEN HORDE’s New Video Enters “Profound Darkness”

New Album “Fallen Cathedrals” Out March 22, 2019 via Extreme Metal Music

Hailing from the cold, unforgiving wastelands of Hollywood, California, ASHEN HORDE is a two-piece band that strives to embrace a multitude of extreme metal sub-genres, without being bound to any one of them. Drawing influence from metal’s crème de le extreme, from Enslaved and Devin Townsend to Ihsahn and Opeth, ASHEN HORDE (aka Trevor Portz and Stevie Boiser (Vale of Pnath, Inferi)), may have a sound rooted in death and black metal, but can’t truly be called either.

Completing their third full length, “Fallen Cathedrals”, the concept album is in the vein of J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel “High Rise,” and explores class warfare and a society’s descent into primitive, warring tribes. Musically, the album expands further on the complexities of the band’s earlier releases, but with even more emphasis on progressive and melodic elements, even incorporating clean vocals for the first time. It will appeal to fans of the more progressive side of extreme metal, from Ihsahn and Borknagar to Opeth and Enslaved.

Set to be released on CD and vinyl in Europe and North America on March 22nd, 2019 via Extreme Metal Music/Rockshots Records, the duo has unleashed the concept album’s first single and video “Profound Darkness”.

The band explains the track:

“We slow things down a bit for this one, it is a song that is much grimmer and dark. The power has gone out across the entire poor part of the city, and the inhabitants—wary and distrusting of their wealthy neighbors—have decided that it must surely be the fault of the rich. Thus, they determine that the peace between the two sides is over and that they must get revenge.”

Listen to “Profound Darkness” at the following link: https://youtu.be/Dvb03K0WPvM

The band adds:

“The forthcoming album, Fallen Cathedrals, is the perfect illustration of what Ashen Horde is all about. Musically, it draws influence from across the metal spectrum. There is hyper speed, blast-beat-fueled black metal that runs alongside pummeling death metal riffs; clean-sung melodic passages juxtaposed against face-melting screams, and headbanging beats intermixed with progressive odd-time signatures.”

Album pre-order is available on Rockshots.eu, Bandcamp, Amazon.

Track Listing:
1. Parity Lost (7:37)
2. Profound Darkness (5:22)
3. Retaliation-Regret (4:45)
4. The Vanishing (4:36)
5. Atavism (3:55)
6. Cages (5:07)
7. Final Ascent (4:54)

About:

Launched as a one-man project in 2013 by writer and multi-instrumentalist Trevor Portz, Ashen Horde has released two critically acclaimed albums, as well as several EPs, over the past three years. Beginning with the ambitious Sanguinum Vindicta trilogy, Portz has worked tirelessly to develop a sound that is both challenging and unique.

While the earlier work was more firmly rooted in black metal, subsequent releases have begun to shape the Ashen Horde sound into something more genre-neutral. As noted by Dead Rhetoric, “Ashen Horde takes the best of what’s around and melds it into something more interesting than the [individual] parts.”

2015 saw the release of the sophomore album, Nine Plagues. Again written, performed and recorded entirely by Portz, the album was described by Transcending Obscurity as “the ultimate modern death metal experience.” Lavished with positive reviews, the album greatly helped to boost Ashen Horde’s presence in the extreme metal community. In fact, demand for Nine Plagues on vinyl led to a successful Kickstarter campaign, the result being a double-LP version of the album.

2016 brought a major change to the band, as Portz made the decision to bring in a lead vocalist, ending Ashen Horde’s run as a solo project. Portz drafted Stevie Boiser, known for his work with several tech death heavies, including Vale of Pnath, Inferi, and Equipoise. Notes Portz, “I always felt like the vocals I was doing was fine, but they never turned out quite as dynamic as I heard them in my head. Stevie’s skill will, no doubt, push Ashen Horde to a whole new level.” The first release with Boiser on vocals was “The Alchemist” 7”, which saw the band exploring black and roll, giving a nod to bands like Khold and Satyricon.

Which brings us to 2018 and Fallen Cathedrals. The album represents a more diverse Ashen Horde sound but doesn’t compromise on the intensity and aggression for which the band has become known.

Absolute Zero Magazine commented, “If we the underground can get this into the right hands Ashen Horde will be a major force in the extreme metal world for years to come.” Portz and Boiser are ready to see that prediction play out.

About:
For 10 years running, West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest has not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands but brought in well-known, international acts to the sleepy, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year up to 700 metalheads from Canada and USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun they spend 3 days camping, taking in over 30 bands, participating in wrestling events and scavenger hunts and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., but gives bands opportunities to play different venues throughout the region including all ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

From the darkness of Northern Quebec, Canada, Rouyn-Noranda’s assaulting BACKSTABBER will be unleashing their debut album “Conspiracy Theorist” on February 15, 2019. The 10 track album is a fierce full-length that encompasses themes about scandals, critiques of mainstream media and conspiracies such as hollow Earth. Remaining old school, there are no clean vocals or breakdowns here, just a solid and mature death/thrash metal album, with good flow and clear thought in the tracks and compositions.

“‘Conspiracy Theorist’ is an album that’s meant to open your mind about the way the world revolves around us as it offers a new perspective on many issues that we see in our lives.” says vocalist/guitarist Christian M. Thériault

Leading up to its release, the band has teamed up with NoCleanSinging.com for the premiere of their new lyric video “Geo Engineering”, a track based on Paul Brennan’s speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in 2016. Brennan, then head of the CIA, explained that with a program called Stratospheric Aerosol Injection, we could lower the global temperature by 2 degrees Celsius, estimated at around 10 billion dollars per year.

BIO:

Hailing from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, Backstabber is a formidable death/thrash metal trio inspired by conspiracies, new technologies, philosophy, and history. Covering a vast number of themes throughout their music, Backstabber can be likened to a ‘loose cannon’ with no foreshadowing of what direction they will take next, musically.

Starting with themes and gradually adding riffs, drums, bass and finally vocals, they pride themselves on complimenting their compositions with energetic and interactive live shows, the entire reason for them writing their music.

Eager to bring raw and fierce metal to the ears of listeners, Backstabber has recorded their first full-length “Conspiracy Theorist” set to be released February 15, 2019.

Backstabber has shared the stage with Cattle Decapitation, Depths of Hatred, First Fragment, Ending Tyranny, Insurrection, Blinded by Faith, Aepoch and more.

IMONOLITH Announce Debut Canadian Show Dates

Featuring former and current members of
Devin Townsend Project, Threat Signal, Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, Methods of Mayhem

Debut Single ‘Hollow’ Out Now!

Show Dates:
February 23 – Vancouver, BC @ The Red Room – info
March 1 – Calgary, AB @ Dickens – info
March 2 – Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room (Temple) – info

IMONOLITH, the new metal powerhouse featuring vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Arkaea), drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen (Devin Townsend Project), guitarist Brian Waddell (Devin Townsend Project), bassist Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory), and second guitarist Kai Huppunen (Methods of Mayhem, Noise Therapy) announce they will be performing their three debut shows in Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

“We’re all looking forward to our first 3 live shows ever with, Imonolith. Vancouver on Feb 23rd, Calgary on March 1st and Edmonton on March 2nd. It’s a new chapter for us all. It’s an exciting time, especially when you’re playing music that you love and created with good friends. The show itself is going to be energetic, powerful and something to look forward to, in every city we play. We collectively have so much live experience from touring the world over the years, through the past bands we played in. We plan on using all that experience to put on one hell of a show every night with, Imonolith. We can’t wait for that first date!” says drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen.

IMONOLITH recently made an unforgettable entrance with their debut single, “Hollow”, which can be experienced via their brand new music video here: https://youtu.be/57tcysG4QgY

“Hollow” can also be streamed/purchased via https://imonolith.lnk.to/HollowPR.

“Hollow” serves as the perfect introduction to IMONOLITH, a band whose mission is simple: to write the heaviest riffs, the biggest hooks, and most monstrous grooves. Given the impressive pedigree of each player, they do exactly this and more.

Recorded and produced by Brian Howes and Jay Van Poederooyen (Nickelback, Chris Cornell, Airbourne, Hinder, Daughtry) at Van Howes Studios in Los Angeles, California, “Hollow” is immediately setting the bar high and the best is yet to come.

Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen comments:

“’Hollow’ is a song about the personal battles we all can face internally. Social pressures and self-expectation can drive you to a point of feeling hollow inside if you don’t meet specific standards in your mind. The song itself actually has a positive message built into it. It’s not about feeling hollow, it’s more about preventing that hollow feeling that any one of us can develop through negative thinking and limited beliefs.”

Fans can expect many surprises as they unveil more music. RVP continues:

“As for ‘Hollow’, musically it represents the catchier side of IMONOLITH’s music. We have varying influences spread throughout the band and we don’t like to play just one style of music. We have a more metal crushing side, a catchier radio side and then music that fits in-between our heavy and catchier vibes. We always aim to make IMONOLITH’s overall sound diverse and interesting. Most of all, we’re always focused on trying to write a great song, no matter if it’s heavy or catchy.”

IMONOLITH was officially formed in February 2018 by drummer Ryan ‘RVP’ Van Poederooyen and guitarist Brian Waddell, although the pair started writing their own brand of heavy music in 2015 whilst playing together in the Devin Townsend Project. RVP and Waddell then went on to recruit vocalist Jon Howard, bassist Byron Stroud, and second guitarist Kai Huppunen, completing a fearsome line-up. The Canadian quintet has since written a mass of highly diverse material, which appeals to everyone from the metalhead to the radio rock fan, and everyone in between.

Since teasing demos and video clips online, IMONOLITH has amassed a dedicated legion of supporters worldwide, and with the release of the new single, their following is set to expand by the thousands. With their first run of shows throughout Canada announced and big international plans in the pipeline, 2019 is set to be a huge year for IMONOLITH.

0 Embrace The Moon With SAEVA’s Atmospheric Video “Sanguine Rite”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 25, 2019

For fans of Drudkh, Shining(SWE), Gojira

Embrace The Moon With SAEVA’s Atmospheric Video “Sanguine Rite”

Denver’s Saeva has released a punishing and chaotic new single, ‘Sanguine Rite’ and it is almost 7 minutes of tragic fury embracing blood sacrifice and moon worship. The Colorado band has been flirting with influences from a few genres since their birth under the cold moon of 2018 but remains heavily focused on black metal with sustained progressive riffs.

‘Sanguine Rite’ comes from the yet to be titled debut EP from Saeva, that is intended to be released later this year and according to them, it is a solid introduction to what Saeva is.

“Sanguine Rite is the third song I wrote for this project and the first lyrics I wrote for the album. I wanted the song to be brooding and heavy but gradually move. The song needed to tell a story more than the lyrics. The music ebbs and flows and the melody reprised from the intro grounds you, reminds you where you are. The lyrics are about blood sacrifice and moon worship, in Saeva we move with the moon and we respect her gravity.” – N. Mercury

This single is melodic, aggressive, and tormented; all the things Saeva wishes to portray itself as sonically.

‘Sanguine Rite’ is available on Bandcamp and along with the video on YouTube.

About:

Saeva is ritual worship of the moon and an artistic mirror of the cruelty of man. Born under the Cold Moon, MMXVIII.

Through Mercury, the hymn is given its voice and the moon’s wisdom are interpreted. We are given the space to reflect and meet ourselves with honesty and reason. In this space, we may learn to better communicate with ourselves and shatter the fallacies of ego.

Through Venus, we learn to feel while we discover passion and pleasure. Her storm is violent and fierce as it builds with thunder and lightning; her rains pour down to secure the end of manufactured monuments.

Through Pluto, we learn to find solace in darkness. Far from the Sun’s gaze, a cold exterior hides away our secrets and traps them within while we come face to face with our torments. In this space, we experience extreme aggression with calming waves of reflection.

N. Mercury – Guitar, Vocals
C. Venus – Drums
J. Pluto – Guitar, Vocals

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 25, 2019

For fans of Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Megadeth, Kreator

Out Now! Italy’s Evil Thrashers MALAMORTE New Album Out “Hell For All” – Jan 25 (EU), Feb 8 (NA) via Rockshots Records

Malamorte; the side project of Alex Nunziati (Lord Vampyr, Cain, Nailed God, Shadowsreign, Sepolcrum, ex VII Arcano, ex Theatres des Vampires) is a ferocious evil metal band hailing from Italy. Telling tales of the occult, mysticism and more with a backdrop of power, thrash, and black metal, the band’s third offering “Hell For All” is now available in Europe as of January 25th via Rockshots Records along with it being released on February 8th in North America.

“Hell For All” was written as a cohesive album, with each song being composed in a complementary fashion to the rest of the tracks. Compared to their 2016 album “Devilish Illusions”, this new record brings more thrash and power elements as the band deviates from their black metal origins.

Keeping the listener in mind, Malamorte desires to formulate a trip, one that “alternates hard times to more reflective or lighter moments” and can be played on repeat with each new listen creating a new perspective. Quality and energy are the primary focuses for these Italians, who allow their fans to escape into an alternate reality and cite influences from a broad range of musical greats including Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Iron Maiden, and Slayer.

“Hell For All” is available for order here.

Montreal, QC – January 24, 2019

For fans of Truckfighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, ZZ Top

Vancouver’s GETAWAY VAN Is Rip Roaring & Ready To Go With New Single ‘Lord I’ve Been Running’

Self Titled Debut Out Feb 23rd

New to the Vancouver rock scene, GETAWAY VAN has been maneuvering through venues to bring their slightly out of control punky blues stoner fuzz rock to entertained audiences for the past year. Collectively, the band shares a broad taste in music and using that to their advantage it’s translated into a record full of different styles and influences that they are gearing up to release on February 23, 2019, which features their latest single ‘Lord I’ve Been Running’.

Coming from a personal place, the lyrics to the single were written by Zach Fox and it’s hard hitting with a real classic rock feel.

“This song has a little bit of everything. Some Zeppelin, ZZ Top, RHCP, all wrapped up in a Getaway Van bow.  This heavy, classic rock tune is about life taking everything out of you until you feel like you have nothing left to give.  The narrator is pleading with God/the universe/anyone who will listen, to just give him a break.”

Fans of Stone Temple Pilots, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters don’t have long to wait for this release:

‘Lord I’ve Been Running’ is available can be heard on Youtube and Spotify.

BIO:

Hey, we’re Getaway Van: Four fellas who are just tryin’ to make you feel like you’re flying down the side of a mountain in a speeding 80s cargo van.

It’s a very teamwork oriented approach and people can expect to not be able to look away from the bouncing and jumping around on stage complete with them occasionally taking their clothes off. Taking the desert rock vibe and making it a little aggressive and little out of control, the audience can definitely expect to have a great time.

In 2018, Getaway Van recorded two EPs, ‘Brokedown’ and ‘Burnouts’ and in February 2019 they are geared to release their debut self titled full length featuring the single ‘Lord I’ve Been Running’. It’s foot-to-the-floor rock n’ roll that shakes rooms like a straight piped V8. Bringing roots of stoner rock, blues, punk, and folk, a Getaway Van performance is your very own experience of controlled chaos.

“Continuing in the same vein of Truckfighters-esque stoner rock heard on January’s Burnouts EP, we are treated to a much fuller sound on this release… It’s meatier, it’s harder, it’s heavier. If that sounds a bit pornographic, you’re not far off, because this is a dirty record — full of fuzz and viscera.” – Vancity Rockers

“Did anyone order a soul-crushing, female fronted metal band?” – Idobi Radio

“While there’s a distinct modern metal feel to Meka Nism, the key to what makes their sound more unique and engaging is the pool of influences that they draw from…they have managed to find their own style within it – one that you will have a hard time forgetting once you hear it. A band that could easily find themselves on the rise as word starts to get around.” – Dead Rhetoric

“What would happen when you lock Arch Enemy and Lacuna Coil in the same room and force them to record an album? Well, you’d probably get something like Florida residents Meka Nism.” – Merchants of Air

“They experiment with melodies, dipping their toes in and out of a pool of sounds and influences. Then, they combine these creative expressions with the most important element of their music: the message. Meka Nism doesn’t just deliver thrashing tunes; it seeks to deliver listeners from their own wars inside. ” – Shockwave Mag

“A little bit of keyboard, a thumping drum beat followed by roaring riffs leads into the blazing hot title track. A track that mixes modern metal with operatic style scope. That element comes from the incredible range on singer Ms. Meka. She can go from huge soaring melodies to heavier shouts and screams in an instant. Incredible.” – Games, Brains & A Head-Banging Life

“It’s honest, heavy and packed full of some of the most amazing elements of metal music infused with some of the most versatile, controlled and distinct vocals in metal music today.” – Yesterdaze News

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, Misshapen are a diverse and melodic metal band blending elements of death metal, technical metal, and black metal. They are releasing their EP ‘Transcendence’ February 8, 2019, and now present the official music video for ‘The Swarm’.

Capturing the attention of audiences since 2016, Misshapen seeps melodies with harsh vocals, further ignited with technical riffs and meaningful lyrics. ‘The Swarm’ is the most ferocious track on the EP and would be recommended to fans of Ne Obliviscaris, Children of Bodom, At the Gates, and Dimmu Borgir.

The band shares their thoughts on the track:

“It’s the black metal song of the EP, filled with dark riffs and horrific orchestration that revisits early Dimmu Borgir days. The lyrical inspiration was derived from ‘Castlevania’ the series. It means that people who follow a corrupt leader will bring a sense of hell on earth. This song intelligently showcases how we visit the other side of the spectrum of the emotion we generally induce in our music.”

Powerful and enthralling, the video was shot and produced by Dark Moon Productions and Silver Wings Studios and can be viewed at the following link via Beheading The Traitor Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufg9clBOadI

The five-track EP ‘Transcendence’ will be available on February 8, 2019. This will be the first release after their 2016 demo and promises to be adventurous, dark and distinct.
