From the darkness of Northern Quebec, Canada, Rouyn-Noranda’s assaulting BACKSTABBER will be unleashing their debut album “Conspiracy Theorist” on February 15, 2019. The 10 track album is a fierce full-length that encompasses themes about scandals, critiques of mainstream media and conspiracies such as hollow Earth. Remaining old school, there are no clean vocals or breakdowns here, just a solid and mature death/thrash metal album, with good flow and clear thought in the tracks and compositions.

“‘Conspiracy Theorist’ is an album that’s meant to open your mind about the way the world revolves around us as it offers a new perspective on many issues that we see in our lives.” says vocalist/guitarist Christian M. Thériault

Leading up to its release, the band is hosting a live session on Facebook where they will perform their first two singles “Subterranean” and “No Privacy” along with revealing their next “Geo Engineering”.

The live session will begin on Wednesday, January 16th at 8:45 pm EST on the band’s Facebook page here.

BIO:

Hailing from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, Backstabber is a formidable death/thrash metal trio inspired by conspiracies, new technologies, philosophy, and history. Covering a vast number of themes throughout their music, Backstabber can be likened to a ‘loose cannon’ with no foreshadowing of what direction they will take next, musically.

Starting with themes and gradually adding riffs, drums, bass and finally vocals, they pride themselves on complimenting their compositions with energetic and interactive live shows, the entire reason for them writing their music.

Eager to bring raw and fierce metal to the ears of listeners, Backstabber has recorded their first full-length “Conspiracy Theorist” set to be released February 15, 2019.

Backstabber has shared the stage with Cattle Decapitation, Depths of Hatred, First Fragment, Ending Tyranny, Insurrection, Blinded by Faith, Aepoch and more.

The latest blistering death metal entity Of Hatred Spawn unleashed their self-titled debut album worldwide this past December on Boonsdale Records. The band’s studio and live line-up consist of JJ Tartaglia (Skull Fist) on drums, his brother Remy Tartaglia on guitars, Oscar Rangel (ex-Annihilator) on bass and Matt “Coldcuts” Collacott on vocals. The project is the first-ever collaborative offering by the Tartaglia brothers and holds great promise and expectations within the metal community around the world.

The band delivers an old-school death metal sound in the vein of old Morbid Angel, Decapitated, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Ruination-era Job For A Cowboy, while staying true to the modern trends of today’s extreme metal. Super low-tuned guitars, guttural vocals, blast beat drumming, odd-time signatures, and tempo shifts create the atmosphere for Of Hatred Spawn’s demonic sound. The lyrical themes tell stories of plagues, slavery, darkness and the balance of evil.

Teaming up with NoCleanSinging.com, the band is premiering drummer JJ Tartaglia’s new playthrough for the album’s track “Severed Limb Convulsion”.

Tartaglia comments:

“This song is probably the heaviest one on the album. Straight up death metal, with quite a few changes in odd-time signatures of 11/8, 7/8, 5/8, and 6/8 and a tempo shift as well. All of the elements give it quite a modern sound making it one of my fave tracks. Real fun to play as well.”

This past November, American power metal warriors LORDS OF THE TRIDENT unleashed their 7th studio album “Shadows From The Past”, which they will be touring this January with A Sound of Thunder in support of (dates listed below). While promoting their latest album, LORDS OF THE TRIDENT also launched a Patreon campaign to give fans more exclusive content. One such perk is the band’s first 100% Patreon-funded acoustic album entitled “Pull The Plug” that features all-acoustic re-recorded LORDS OF THE TRIDENT fan-favorite songs from past albums along with a few loved covers by the band.

Vocalist Fang VonWrathenstein comments:

“Acoustic …metal? You wouldn’t think it would be a thing, but here we are! The first time we tried playing our songs on acoustic guitars, they instantly burst into flames. Some experimentation was needed before we were able to successfully record. We tried fastening plate metal to the backs of the guitars, and even went so far as to completely coat a guitar in liquid steel. It took a lot of broken and melted guitars, but we FINALLY found a method that worked. Enjoy one of the most SOOTHING metal albums you’ll ever hear…Perfect for your next heavy metal date night!”

Blackened Death Trio OCULUM DEI Streaming “Blinded By Gods”

Debut Album “Dreams of Desire and Torment” Out Feb 22, 2019

Hailing from the ashes of Charlotte, USA’s darker side comes forth the blackened death trio, Oculum Dei. Mixing different elements and influences of black metal, the band is set to bring forth a horde of darkness and engage listeners into a realm of deep, chaotic experiences.

First forming as a studio project in 2016 by Tenebris (bass/drum and keys programming), Camalus (guitar) and Zebulv (vocals/guitar), the band has taken their influences of Emperor, Behemoth and Dark Funeral and push an eclectic unholy blasphemy as far as it will go in the Southern USA’s Bible Belt.

Not content to remain as a studio project, the trio has begun performing locally and have shared the stage with Carach Angren, Wolfheart, and Mors Principum Est. Clad in corpse paint with an elaborate and continuously evolving stage show, Oculum Dei has heavily invested into their extreme visionary madness.

A team effort behind all their songwriting, Oculum Dei has been working on their first album for almost three years and now the dark demonic war chants of their debut “Dreams of Desire and Torment” will be unleashed on February 22, 2019.

The band comments:

“The album as a whole is an eclectic mix of slow dark black metal jumping into extreme black riffs sometimes slowed down with a death metal riff and into acoustic guitars. There is no set template for this one, just a groove and feel that each of us has brought to the table.”

The first single off the debut “Blinded By Gods” is a tribute to old school black metal with riffs and slings lyrics towards Christianity being a fake while saying only God exists in us.

0 Cover of A Perfect Circle’s ‘3 Libras’ By Nova Scotia’s Atmospheric Prog MARC DURKEE

Nova Scotia’s Atmospheric Prog MARC DURKEE Posts Acoustic Cover of A Perfect Circle’s ‘3 Libras’

New Album “Remain In Stasis” Out January 2019

New Music Video Offers “A Way To Escape”

Yarmouth, Nova Scotia’s solo atmospheric prog artist Marc Durkee is a big fan of American supergroup A Perfect Circle. Covering their songs over the years, he’s has posted his latest acoustic rendition of ‘3 Librs’, which can be viewed on his youtube channel where other past covers from personal favourites can be watched.

Marc Durkee – ‘3 Libra’ (A Perfect Circle) – https://youtu.be/YEQasV0ipp8

Inspired by Katatonia, Tesseract, Anathema, Devin Townsend, Coheed & Cambria, Marc Durkee’s music can be described as “a blend of progressive, metal/rock, doom metal, post-hardcore, and post-rock.”

Durkee’s new album ‘Remain In Stasis’ will be out on out January 18th, 2019 and is loaded with deep meaning to this courageous and talented solo artist, as he explains.

“The first meaning of this release is personal. I’ve been stuck in a state of depersonalization for almost five years now. For me, it’s been a chronic symptom of dealing with years of depression and stress, and it’s unrelenting. When it’s at its worst, it removes mostly all motivation and enjoyment from my life. While that is unfortunate, it does serve as a major source of inspiration for song-writing…The second meaning is more political and universal. I feel that humanity is at a unique point in our history, with technology and social media allowing us to communicate and express ourselves in ways that were previously unimaginable. And yet, nobody really DOES communicate. It seems as though it’s mostly used as a platform to bicker over political ideals and agendas and create discourse, or for anyone to use as their own personal performance venue. Everyone wants to be seen and heard, even those who really don’t deserve to be.”

Marc Durkee is one artist who really does deserve to be heard, and when ‘Remain In Stasis’ is released, all the world will hear him.

Album pre-order available on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 8, 2019

KARMIC LINK Posts Guitar Playthrough “Lost Magic Alchemy”

New Album “Dark Metropolis” Out Now! via Rockshots Records

Karmic Link guitarist Evan Hensley has posted a new guitar playthrough for “Lost Magic Alchemy”, which is one of nine tracks off the band’s latest album “Dark Metropolis” released this past October via Rockshots Records.

Watch it at the following link:

Evan Hensley (ex-Nightfall, Dark Hound), hailing from Nashville, Tennessee (USA), joined Karmic Link in 2009, taking up both guitar and bass duties with founding member Stathis Kassios (ex-keyboard player of Sweden’s System Shock and of Greece’s Nightfall), and Sweden’s Kim “Kimbo” Gustavsson (drums, guitar) currently based in Oslo (Norway).

The band’s latest album “Dark Metropolis” features nine tracks of dark industrial coldness with Mediterranean energy along with atmospheric landscapes, progressive and instrumental madness, electro breakdowns plus hard rock pentatonic moments. The album is the third full length from the band to follow their two previous albums “Esoterica”(2010) and debut “No Light But Rather Darkness Visible”(2008).

Stathis Kassios comments:

“Karmic Link is promoting thought-provoking concepts, ideas, heretic, and hermetic philosophies to explain today’s chaotic world and the Dystopian times to come in a globally connected world…Karmic Link is the bitter yet powerful sound of our personal life’s soundtrack filled with anxiety for the future ruled by technology.”

Album order and digital streams on all major platforms can be found at this link: http://smarturl.it/DarkMetropolis.

About:

Karmic Link is the brainchild of Stathis Kassios (Nightfall, ex-system Shock) who, after a period of extensive recording and live experience, gave birth to a surrealistic musical project. In 2006, he started experimenting on some songs with Mina G., a charismatic mezzo-soprano, full of karmic ideas. The link was established and the result was mixed and mastered in the famous Tico Tico studios in Finland. The group’s debut album “No Light but Rather Darkness Visible” was released in 2008 with a new lineup consisting of  Stathis Kassios, Evan Hensley and Kim Kimbo Gustavsson. Karmic Link so far consists of mediterranean energy, doses of industrial coldness, atmospheric landscapes, progressive bits, instrumental madness, dark pop tunes, electro breakdowns, funky grooves and hard rock pentatonic moments. Karmic Link’s new album Dark Metropolis (2018) is an album sourcing musicianship from Greece, Norway and USA, different cultures bound together to offer an alternative metal experience!

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM is sharing their latest guitar playthrough for their track “The Esoteric Order”. The playthrough showcases the dual shredding of KOSM‘s guitarist Erik Leonoard and Mike Slater who play Kiesel and PRS guitars respectively, along with using a blend of Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifiers and Scuffham Digital Amps. The ambient sounds heard at the end of the track are created with a combination of the El Capistan dTape Delay pedal by Strymon and the Afterneath Reverb pedal by Earthquaker Devices.

Watch the shredding via GearGods.net at http://geargods.net/playthrough/kosm-esoteric-order-playthrough/

The track is third single off of KOSM‘s debut full length “Cosmonaut” released this past November and is influenced from the cosmic-horror of H.P. Lovecraft and classic science-fiction of others; the album and song tell the story of a cosmonaut’s transformative journey through time and space.

The band adds:

“Cosmonaut is a concept album loosely based on the weird-fiction of HP Lovecraft, and borrowing concepts from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny. The album follows a cosmonaut on a cosmic journey through time and space; from the earthly confines of mortal life, to ascendancy as an immaterial and omnipotent being. The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

“Cosmonaut” is available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play.

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut. The technical, progressive musicianship of Tool meets the crushing grooves and rhythmic vocals of Gojira, and Mastodon’s ear for riffy, thunderous prog are all present on Cosmonaut, which features some of the most technical metal I’ve heard this year outside of, you know, technical death metal. ” – Decibel Magazine

“The song (Ancient Heart) itself, which swings between some appetizingly heavy progressive riffs and aggressive growls and more melodic moments (with clean singing behind them). A tough band to place in that regard, but one certainly worth seeking out as they continue to expand their sound.” – DeadRhetoric
“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove.  They have all sorts of dual guitar sections, and very psychedelic and moody parts on “Cosmonaut” as well.  They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second. ” – Technical Music Review

“KOSM definitely show enough potential with this release to be a band that should be on your scopes.” – Noizze UK

” Kosm’s Cosmonaut isn’t bland: it’s the pleasing sound of a band following their own inner vision.” 9/10 – Hellbound

“Magnetic, untamed, infamous and regaled for their strange and sensational stage shows, White Cowbell Oklahoma is the country-fried boogie rock sandwich you didn’t know you were craving.” – Beatroute AB

“given live performances that seem to feature more people onstage than in the audience, chainsaws, strippers, decimated stuffed things (turkeys, play toys and so on), they do aspire to have their music appreciated to the same extent that their image is co-opted, gawked at and gossiped about.” Exclaim!”

“White Cowbell Oklahoma add a touch of psych to their trashy hard rock formula…hellraising Southern-rock-tinged rock ‘n’ roll.” – Now Toronto

There’s no warm-up for White Cowbell Oklahoma’s sixth full-length release, recorded at Zeus’s Toronto studio and also in concert in Amsterdam. As in their live shows, where flames and power tools feature prominently, the underrated Toronto old-school rockers throw us into the fire immediately, and that fire doesn’t die until long after the final chords – from not one, not two, but three guitars – ring out.” – Now Toronto (2015 Mixto Sixto Review)“a fist-pumping, anthemnic set of songs thick on low-end, pelvic thrust and grit. Easily their most confident effort to date, it displays a new Bell that is streamlined and primed for attack. ” – Exclaim! (2009 Bombardero Review)
