WAINGRO is not just a crazy, terrible human for hire trying to make his life in L.A. as portrayed in the 1995 film Heat. It’s also the name of a crazy rock n’ roll band who are making their way through the Canadian music scene and beyond with the release of their upcoming third album “III” set to be released in the UK on vinyl and digitally worldwide via Sludgelord Records on August 16th along with its Canadian vinyl release on September 13th via No List Records.

Using the character from Mann’s movie as a jumping-off point, the Vancouver band imagines further scenarios of pre-Heat WAINGRO situations. Releasing three singles ‘Red Death’, ‘Bay Area Cult’ and ‘Merrin’ in preview to the upcoming album, the band is now ready to share with fans the full length’s complete stream YouTube channel Stoned Meadow of Doombefore it is officially out.

The band adds:

“The first album was kind of chaotic, the second one explored the stoner/doom side of things a bit more, and this new and third one is a mix of the two, but with a more grunge/noise element to it. It’s a nice addition to anyone’s heavy, noisy rock catalogue.”

“III”, as suggested, is the third album from WAINGRO and has shown considerable growth from their previous releases “Mt. Hood” (2015) and Self-Titled (2014).

Fueled by a passion for stoner rock and punk; Brian Sepanzyk (guitars/vocals), Benjie Nesdoly (drums) and Nate Pennell (bass/backing vocals) took the heaviness of hardcore, the groove from stoner rock and then added subtle desert rock highlights to work on what would come to be known as Waingro.

The experienced musicians have honed their craft in several other bands over the years, but it wasn’t until they formed Waingro that Sepanzyk (guitar/vocals), Nesdoly (drums), and Nate Pennell (bass/backing vocals) were truly able to explore their talents in the abrasive desert rock band. While their earlier material can be considered stoner hardcore with releases Self Titled (2014) and Mt. Hood (2015); Waingro adds a grunge edge with their upcoming album “III due out August 15, 2019, its UK vinyl and worldwide digital release via Sludgelord Records and is Canadian vinyl release on September 13, 2019, via No List Records.

Not ones to be conventional, Waingro gives a glimpse into their writing process: “It usually starts with Sepanzyk coming up with some riffs, then going out to a cabin and locking ourselves away for 2-3 days while we BBQ and play Bocce.”

Bringing a ton of energy, while still remaining super tight, Waingro’s main lyrical concepts explore the character of the same name from the film Heat. Writing about situations from the character’s potential point of view complemented with visual landscapes for his possibilities, Waingro have played several festivals across Canada and with their latest album around the corner, will be looking to further their reach in the future.

Every town has stories to caution or warn, every police officer has a seen a crime that keeps them awake at night, and every coroner has seen death in ways that the rest of us could never imagine. Murder, conspiracy, supernatural horror, and real-life terror are stains on the cutting room floor where Edmonton-based group Tales of The Tombpaints their canvas.

Tales of The Tomb will release their new EP “Volume Two: Mendacium” September 27th. “Volume Two: Mendacium” is a collection of narratives surrounding government cover-ups, national lies and the heinous crimes committed amongst the shadows. The album was mixed and mastered by Cryptopsy guitar player and Head Engineer/Owner at The Grid Studios Christian Donaldson. The EP also contains a bonus track about the Japanese horror film Mermaid in a Manhole. Featuring artwork by Tony Midi of Tonymidi Artworks

Unified by the desire to have the grotesque power of 90’s era death and murder metal, Tales of The Tomb started as a thought that grew into an insatiable need to make extreme music. Tales Of The Tomb was created in October 2013 from founder Corey Skerlak (Guitar, Vocals) out of inspiration from the original murder metal band Macabre.

Much of their inspiration is drawn from the hideous crimes and conspiracies of the world. Retelling stories of the dark hidden secrets and victims from such crimes. This was the inspiration for the name Tales of The Tomb.

A sonic attack layered with grinding blast beats, injected with menacing guttural lows — a sound straight from hell with gore-filled lyrics leaving little to the imagination, destroying your eardrums like a corpse is erased in an acid-filled bath.

Having just formed mere months ago, the duo of SOPHIST from Edmonton, Canada have been working at breakneck speed to release their debut EP “Betrothal To The Stone: Conception of Mephisto”, which is coming this Friday, August 16, 2019.

A frantic blend of grindcore and black metal, SOPHIST takes inspiration from bands such as Anaal Nathrakh, Mayhem, and Napalm Death to create a sound that is unholy as it is blistering fast. The comment on the sound they are presenting to their new fans:

“The EP is comprised of frantic beats and buzzsaw riffs. The songs are structured atypically, tons of blast beats and tremolo picking. High-pitched and low pitched vocals with many layers. It’s like a choir of evil the whole way through.”

With lyrical content revolving around the esoteric and occult, much of the inspiration for the lyrics on here came from an alchemical text called Hermaphrodite Child of the Sun and Moon.

Anyone who enjoys ridiculous tempos and grinding riffs should have a great time with this valiant first effort from SOPHIST.

Now they are back with a new album “On the Hunt” due out on October 4, 2019, which is sure to remind people of the glory days of metal. “Our first single ‘White Wolf’ from the new album, ‘On The Hunt’, takes on an almost Savatage or Iron Maiden musical approach, a classic metal sound including lots of variety and ripping leads, while still maintaining a catchy chorus and simple but fun melodies. Lyrically this song speaks about the fictional character known as Geralt of Rivia from the Witcher series, created by Andrzej Sapkowski.”

Inspired by legendary pillars of heavy metal such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Scorpions, and Rush, Iron Kingdom is well known for their energetic and electrifying stage presence, as well as intricate musical melodies that bring listeners back to a time when the genre was in its prime.

Formed in Surrey, Canada, in June of 2011, Iron Kingdom’s intent was to fill the gap of bands that are heavy, but not extreme, melodic but not mainstream, technical but approachable. ‘Curse Of The Voodoo Queen’ was released on Dec 14, 2011, and the band took the opportunity to tour western Canada, along with an appearance on the CTV Show, Canada’s Got Talent (viewership of 1 million on that episode). With the debut album finishing its cycle, the group decided it was time to record a new album, and by April 26, 2013, ‘Gates Of Eternity’ was released. Garnering strong reviews and attention from around the world, Iron Kingdom was invited to perform at Germany’s Keep It True XVII festival.

Following this massive milestone, Iron Kingdom set out to pursue as many opportunities as they could spending some serious time on the road through Canada in 2013, Europe in 2014, followed by a tour in the USA with California’s Night Demon. The band had created some major momentum and Iron Kingdom were spreading their moniker far and wide in support of the first two releases.

On July 30, 2015, Iron Kingdom released not one but two more albums, ‘Ride For Glory’, their 3rd full-length album, as well as ‘Unleashed At The Kraken (Live In Seattle)’, an exclusive live E.P. recorded on a previous tour. The band set out on the road again in support of the two new releases. The tour was unfortunately riddled with many trials, including a vehicle accident that almost killed the band members. Life on the road continued, including a massive North American tour in 2016, as well as a tour in Brazil in a supporting slot for former frontman of Iron Maiden, Blaze Bayley.

As of 2019, with a new lineup and a new album ‘On The Hunt’ on its way, Iron Kingdom will once again be ready to take the world by storm and aid in the revival of the mighty and classic sounds of Traditional Heavy Metal.

EXES FOR EYES latest album “Of Strength and Sorrow” has been four years in the making since their previous album. “The writing process took so much out of us this album, so the idea of not releasing a song because ‘it doesn’t sound like the other ones’ didn’t even cross our minds. I feel like we knew we were going to release it ourselves on our terms again, so the idea of a 65-minute album didn’t seem outrageous. EXES FOR EYES is a project born of an overwhelming amount of mutual respect and admiration between two men. Respect for one another’s work ethic, musical proficiency, stylistic taste and of course, for each other as people.

The concept of blindness, be it willing, involuntary, inherent or otherwise is so foreign and far removed from anything within the realm of experience for these men. However as the process has begun to create this music, it has become apparent how limited one’s own vision can be when staring at the broad side of limitless potential and ambition.

With the musical vision of Dave Sheldon (ex-Man With Target, Annihilator) and the lyrical conception of vocalist and frontman Big James (Endast, Authors) the project is very quickly taking shape into something more than either anticipated. The hope is to see the world of metal in a new light, with EXES FOR EYES.

Orange County alt-metal outfit BI·AS, featuring David Silveria (original drummer of Korn) shares their latest music video for their next single ‘Hesitation’. The single is a preview to their much-anticipated debut EP due out in 2020. ‘Hesitation’ gives an early taste of what the record will bring to the table. This is the first song that singer Rich Nguyen wrote with the band during their worldwide singer auditions. The song is about anxiety and how it can cause a lot of missed opportunities; if you let it. The song talks about overcoming the barriers created by anxiety in your mind and pressing on no matter what. ‘Hesitation’ is an anthem of overcoming anxiety and is meant to be a musical affirmation.

Rich Nguyen describes ‘Hesitation’:

“This song in terms of sound is the exact middle ground between “Pity” and “Change Your Mind”. It has tons of melody and a smidge of aggression musically and vocally. Fans of the other two singles won’t be disappointed.”

BI·AS made a big splash with their first single, ‘Pity’, which came out in January. The track rapidly reached #23 on the Billboard (BDS) Indicator Chart and #9 on the Foundations (SMR) Chart. They have already reached 85,000 streams on Spotify and another 33,000 on Youtube. Meanwhile, ‘Hesitation’ stands on its own as a hard rock song with touches of metal influence and a driving chorus to bring it all home. The video was directed by Matt Zane of Lord Zane Productions. BI·AS will also be hitting the stage on August 9th at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go as direct support for industrial rock legends ORGY. Looking to the future, BI·AS have finished writing their debut EP and follow up effort. They are looking to get into the studio with producer Chris Collier (KXM, Prong, Korn) in Q4 of 2019 to get all tracked. BI·AS have cultivated a growing fanbase enamored with their modern twist to the late nineties Nu-Metal sound. Suffice it to say – the upcoming record promises to be a showcase of the band’s unique sound and willingness to take sonic risks outside of today’s standards.

“Whether we know it or not, we all have our own version of BIAS…” BI·AS is an Alternative Hard Rock / Metal band based out of Huntington Beach, California. The band, featuring drummer David Silveria (Korn), bassist Chris Dorame (Gears, Needlemouth), guitarists Joe Taback (12 Gauge Embrace, Needlemouth) and Mike Martin formed after a worldwide vocalist search lead them to recruit Rich Nguyen (Dimtribe). The band’s diverse musicality is backed by Silveria’s signature groove and neatly wrapped together by captivating vocal melodies.

Finland’s Fantasy Metal EVERFROST Shares Anime Inspired Video ‘Winterider’

Since the release of debut album ‘Blue Eyed Emotion’, Finland’s EVERFROST have been active on the stage and in the studio bringing listeners the follow-up their EP ‘Appetite For Candlelight’ and live DVD ‘A Cold Night Out’. The band is now aiming to raise the bar from what an album experience is traditionally expected to be, with their second full length “Winterider” to be released via Rockshots Records on September 6th, 2019.

Before the album is officially released, the band have put together a new anime-inspired lyric video for the album’s title track, which can be viewed here.

“Winterider launches the listener into the world of Everfrost once again for a new story. A brutal winter that came and never left is disrupting the peace in Everfrost, bringing panic and depressing times to the residents. The main characters fight against the cold and sorrow however in this defiant anthem, trying to enjoy their young adult life in a hidden city no one is allowed to leave from. The song features huge keyboard strings, catchy guitar riffs and an anime-esque chorus, not to forget guitar and keyboard solo dueling and powerful gang cries. EVERFROST‘s forthcoming album ‘Winterider’ features 10 songs of winter spiced melodic metal elevated to the extreme this time around! The tracklisting includes the band’s first ballad, their fastest song to date and the first EVERFROST epic, clocking in at over 10 minutes.

The album is a unique undertaking for a metal/rock band, as it combines of a fully coherent manga comic and a conceptual album. The story features characters from their debut album ‘Blue Eyed Emotion’, and takes them on a desperate journey to survive a never-ending winter! This type of album has never been attempted before, and the band is pulling out all the stops to provide you with a truly unique experience in the world of comics and music!

Keyboardist Benji Connelly began the demo-process for ‘Winterider’ in the summer of 2017 following the single release ‘Cold Night Remedy’, which appears on the upcoming sophomore album. By March 2018, most of the songs and story manuscript had been finished, as was mentioned in an interview with Musicalypse after their taped show at The Circus, Helsinki. As of September last year, EVERFROST hit the studio and documented the entire ‘making of’ process for “Winterider”, beginning with promo photoshoots lead by Tuonela Magazine’s Laureline Tilkin. EVERFROST is a Finnish symphonic power metal band known for incorporating Japanese anime and manga influences into their visuals and storytelling with a winter flavor.

The band features vocalist Mikael Salo, guitarist Markus Laito, drummer Joonas Salminen, bassist Allan C Hasanen and keyboardist Benjamin Connelly. The music includes generous use of catchy melodies and heavy riffs, plenty of guitar and keyboard solos, a large instrumental variety from orchestral to electronic and energetic drumming. Releasing their album ‘Restless Dreams’ during October of last year via Rockshots Records, Canada’s horror influenced symphonic power metallers MALACODA are sharing with fans their new lyric video for their track ‘Wrapped In Laments’.

Vocalist Lucas Di Mascio explains the track:

“Full of melancholic lead melodies over a frantic, almost djent sounding guitar riff, topped off with a dissonant drawn-out scream, the song sounds eerie, angry and sad all at once. It was inspired by the “Lying Figure” monsters from the Silent Hill 2 video game. They are female creatures that are trapped in a straight jacket of their own skin. They have holes in their chest where their hearts should be and they spew acid if the main character gets too close. They are beautifully haunting and evoke pity and disgust. They represent how the main character’s wife felt while dying of melanoma, she felt she was a monster- too hideous to love and trapped in her own skin. I always took the acid-spewing from the chest as symbolic to how she was very verbally abusive to the main character in her final days and said things that while hurtful, came from the heart. The chorus brings up the words “lie about” as a common phrase, and it’s both referencing how the main character would lie to her about his infidelity, but also how she felt all she could do was physically lie in a bed and waste away.”

Inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”, “Restless Dreams” is a musical journey through dark tormented themes of doubt, loss, guilt, and terror. The plot of the album follows a broken man’s journey through the ghost town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet her there. MALACODA brings a fresh interpretation of these themes and artfully bring to life the oppressive, claustrophobic aura of the fog consumed town with deviously clever song-writing and mind-catching lyrics. “Restless Dreams” is a musical release unlike any other. Fans and new listeners alike, prepare for an atmospheric and melodic metal descent into a world of horror and despair. ‘Restless Dreams’ was masterfully mixed by Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith).
