NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 14, 2021

For fans of Emmure, Thy Art Is Murder, Fit For An Autopsy, Alpha Wolf

Scream Along With Kill The Imposter’s New Lyric Video For “Mace” Off “The Violence Sessions”

New Album “The Violence Sessions” Out May 28th

Florida’s Kill The Imposter has a new lyric video out for their single “Mace”, giving a glimpse into the upcoming violent, angst-filled EP “The Violence Sessions”, the third release from KTI, following 2019’s “The Decimation” and 2020 “A Strain Of Agony”.

Lyrically “The Violence Sessions” comes from a place of frustration and overall redemption for those frustrations. Highlighting world issues and also very close-to-home relationship problems. KTI truly hope the fans feel something powerful enough to move them. Guitarist Danny Arrieta shares the method in the madness:

“The lyrics drive home all the rage and anger I pour into the music to create this wave of violence that washes over you and needs release”.

Vocalist Johnny Nobody adds:

“I think the whole idea of KTI is to create something that forces a response. We like to provoke movement or thought. If it’s violent (moshing) then so be it. So as far as music affecting me lyrically I would say that if I can’t control my head from banging I would write something that accompanies that. I do write to the music as opposed to writing before I hear the song. I may jot down a phrase or something I can build off of but mostly it’s the music the affects my mood.”

KTI members have come from local and national acts with large followings and have come together as an apocalypse captured in a bottle – ready to be unleashed. They work collaboratively, steel sharpening steel, to produce a violent yet tight sound that demands attention and movement.

Brutal and raw, KTI makes no apologies with their brand of deathcore and is recommended listening for fans of Emmure, Thy Art is Murder, and Dealer.

The lyric video for “Mace” can be seen on YouTube: https://youtu.be/WLJGiyDWpJU

“The Violence Sessions” comes out on May 28, 2021.

About:
Kill The Imposter is an Orlando, USA-based deathcore band that was formed in late 2018. Pulling musical inspiration from everywhere, the intention of this four-piece band is to make you move in any capacity you see fit.

Coming from local and national bands, Kill The Imposter brings experience, drive, and mayhem, to the stage. The quartet banded together over a shared love for heavy and violent music, after sharing the stage for one song they knew they had something special, so they sat down together and within a week had 3 songs written and a video lined up. They haven’t stopped since that first sit down, and they won’t stop.

One of the founding members Danny Arrieta (guitar) is the primary music writer getting help with arrangement by Johnny Nobody (vocals). Nick Colvin (drums) carries the aggressive speed and heavy grooves with Wilson Bembry ( bass) definitely sharing and blending the thundering lows and technical playing between all of it.

Since they got together, Kill The Imposter has released “The Decimation” (2019), “A Strain Of Agony” (2020) and “The Violence Sessions” (2021). They have pummeled the stages of Central Florida Metal Fest and Tampa DeathFest and played alongside heavy hitters such as Nile and Terrorizer.

Montreal, QC – May 13, 2021

For fans of Milanku, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neurosis

In Solastalgia, Either Way Invite The Curious To Experience Existential Distress With Visual Encounter “Opia”

Music Video Premiere via TheProgSpace

Hailing from Montreal, QC, In Solastalgia, Either Way is an experimental and progressive act that places an emphasis on an experience that triggers all the senses for a truly multidimensional feel.

The cinematography behind In Solastalgia, Either Way is not something that can be understated. Their music is a complete audio visual experience that dramatically intertwines progressive post-rock and vivid imagery that is best experienced live. In lieu of live events right now, In Solastalgia, Either Way conveys their messages through music videos such as the one for “Opia”.

Band founder Jean Philippe Hébert explains further:

“It’s the scenery we contemplate while driving a car in snowy weather. It all becomes a snowstorm in which the driver is both stuck but also enamoured with the beauty of nature as he sees less and less through his windshield. He stops, there is a feeling of having no control over your present but the calmness of the storm is magnificent, he waits for it to end. But it is also many other stories.”

Watch the music video for “Opia” via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Opia is the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable—their pupils glittering, bottomless and opaque—as if you were peering through a hole in the door of a house, able to tell that there’s someone standing there, but unable to tell if you’re looking in or looking out. This concept is portrayed through the music, frequently changing intensity, and emotions and coming in waves, there is a playful side that works with a nostalgic side.

Solastalgia is a neologism that describes a form of emotional or existential distress caused by environmental change. It is best described as the lived experience of negatively perceived environmental change. Hébert became fascinated by this concept and thus the band was born.

In Solastalgia, Either Way presents a post-apocalyptic screenshot of a non-utopic universe and is recommended for fans of Milanku, Mogwai, and  GodSpeed! You Black Emperor.

“Opia” will be released on digital platforms on May 14, 2021.

Bandcamp

The album “MORII” is expected in Autumn 2021.

About:
Jean Philippe Hébert is an academically trained guitarist. Originally from Québec City, JP was educated at Notre-Dame-De-Foy campus, a private college in the outskirts of Quebec capitol.  He grew up surrounded by nature with one brother and two parents in the medical field.

As a young boy, JP would admire a guitar that had been hung on the wall of his house for ages, until he found the courage to ask for the instrument and some lessons. As a teenager, JP played a lot, concentrating his efforts towards a heavy style of music, until he started college and began studying classical and jazz. He is also a multi-instrumentalist; playing not only guitar but piano, drums and bass as well as banjo, mandolin and other specialized guitars.

His musical abilities landed him many gigs with prominent local Quebec City acts like Elliot Maginot, Lisa Leblanc and Les Soeurs Boulay to name a few. For over a decade now he has been lead guitarist on many of these projects both in-studio and live settings.

He is currently working on a solo project “In Solastalgia EitherWay”, which is the fruit of many years of work; it was built around the philosopher Glenn Albrecht idea that describes a form of emotional or existential distress caused by environmental change. This project combines JP’s love for nature and music. His influences vary from Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Goat and to heavier things like Opeth. You can hear all these worlds colliding in his music, somehow perfectly placed in chaos.

The goal is to have a 6 song EP entitled “MORII” recorded by 2021 that will then be followed by a series of concerts. The concerts themselves will be worked on as moving portraits, as he will work closely on visuals with videographers. This project is both musical and visual.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 12, 2021

For fans of Black Dahlia Murder, Allegaeon, At the Gates, Arch Enemy, Revocation

Canada’s Param-Nesia Are Serving Fresh Technical Death Metal With “Pestilence of Man” Off  “Aspect of Creation”

Music Video Premiere via The Circle Pit

EP “Aspect of Creation” Out June 18th, 2021

Param-Nesia comes roaring out of Vancouver, Canada with a mission to bring their new EP “Aspect of Creation” to metal fans around the world. Ready to fuel the incoming tech-death fire, the band is giving fans a preview of the record with their music video “Pestilence of Man”, which can be viewed via its premiere on The Circle Pit YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/1jbpbQiwBt0

Their second release after 2019’s EP “The Beginning”, “Aspect of Creation” is heavy, melodic, and rides through technical death metal that will take you on an adventure. Param-Nesia explains how the single came to be in their own words:

“Devastating brutality delivered in a groove-driven whirlwind. This song kicks off with a war cry-worthy group vocal chant backed by pulverizing guitar and drum work. Book tomorrow off, your neck will be sore! This song was initially inspired in the most ridiculous way, Andy Cahalin wrote a riff, (the intro) played in a fast rushed feeling way, then a Doctor Pepper/Dr. Dre commercial inspired him to SLOW IT DOWN, and the song found its groove. Absolutely insane, but it’s the truth!”

Param-Nesia comes from the mind of Andy Cahalin who has been writing and recording solo for years while searching for the right members to begin this project. The ultimate goal is to write solid, fun songs, record and release albums, and tour/gig as much as possible. While fans will have to wait for a live performance, they can look forward to a lot of energy, rocking out, big smiles, and tight playing.

The five tracks on the EP cross subgenre boundaries making this brutal assault applicable for most metalheads, especially fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Allegaeon and At the Gates.

“Aspect of Creation” comes out June 18, 2021.

“Radical Absolution” Out May 14th

Crawling Manifest has been kicking around since 2014, however, after their last tour; they decided to go in a new direction musically. They ended up being reduced to a duo, but that has only made the fire burn hotter as evident with their new album “Radical Absolution”.

This change has been hugely satisfying for Andrew Gladu (vocals/bass/drums) and Trevor Layton (guitars) who are eager to show off their own style, a modern take on classic thrash metal. “Radical Absolution” was intended to be a four-song EP, but in the wake of Covid, morphed into a full eight-track album. Crawling Manifest explains it in their own words:

“The start of the album being an emotional instrumental build-up to the first track “Land of the Free”, and the last track “Onslaught” really reminds us of taking a deep breath, letting everything that’s been building up inside out, and then starting fresh. The singles we’ve been able to release so far, “World War III” and “Revolution” have been our most successful tracks to date, we are excited to hear what people think of the rest of the album!”

Crawling Manifest cites that their goal in writing music is to make their fans feel something and “Radical Absolution” delivers just that. This new album, really dug deep into a current event/political mindset, with almost all of the lyrics reflecting on the struggles of the everyday person in the world of 2020.

Loud powerful thrash with the old school themes of yelling about the government, “Radical Absolution” is a perfect grab for those interested in Power Trip, Testament, and Exodus.

The full album is now streaming over on Ghost Cult Magazine HERE.

The album releases officially on May 14, 2021 and will be available on Crawlingmanifest.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:
Crawling Manifest was formed in 2014 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, USA. The thrash metal band incorporates elements from death metal, modern metal and core.

After multiple line-up changes, live shows, and tours, playing alongside bands such as Fleshgod Apocalypse, Soulfly, Soilwork, Carach Angren, and Kataklysm, remaining members Andrew Gladu and Trevor Layton made the decision to write new music taking influence from the bands they grew up listening to and combining a love of death and thrash metal into a powerful new sound.

It starts off with a beer, which turns into a riff and it just goes from there; Gladu and Layton work closely together on all aspects of the writing process, save for when they veer off to pay specific attention to lyrics and vocals.

So far, Crawling Manifest has released two EPs “Forevermore” (2016) and “Lords of War” (2019), and the full-length “Battlegrounds” (2016). In 2021, they will release a second full-length, the politically charged “Radical Absolution” on May 14th.

0 Newfoundland Black Metal Duo ARTACH Unleash “Into the Frozen Woodlands” Off Upcoming Album June 25th

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 12, 2021

For fans of Venom, Immortal, Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, Satyricon

Take A Walk Through The Northern Cold With Newfoundland’s ARTACH’s “Into the Frozen Woodlands” Off “Sworn to Avenge”

Lyric Video Premiere via ThisIsBlackMetal

New Album “Sworn to Avenge” Out June 25th via Depressive Illusions

Coming from the bleak coastal city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Artach brings forth a wave of black metal inspired by the cold, damp terrain they call home. Their upcoming release “Sworn to Avenge” will send a chill down the spines of listeners. Leading up to the album’s debut, they have a lyric music video for the single “Into the Frozen Woodlands”.

“Sworn to Avenge” is eight pummeling tracks, that clock in at just over an hour in total and is the follow up to 2020’s “Chronicles of a Black Winter”. What can listeners expect from this new album? According to Artach, it’s similar to the first, as they explain:

“Anyone who enjoyed our first release will be pleased. We haven’t drifted from the raw energy from the style on the first release. We have improved and tried some new things, but the format we established from the very first song we wrote hasn’t been forgotten.”

The single “Into the Frozen Woodlands” is loosely based on the book/film “Into The Wild”. Through abrasive and raw black metal, it explores thoughts of leaving the shitty world behind and wandering into the wilderness. Of course, it didn’t end well for the unprepared protagonist in this story.

Artach has been working quickly since they first formed, with the desire to play raw and noisy music. Within nine months, they had an album’s worth of material recorded. Now, a little over a year later they have more than enough for the second album.

Cold and dramatic, Artach is recommended for fans of Venom, Immortal, and Celtic Frost.

The video for “Into the Frozen Woodlands” can be heard and viewed via its premiere on ThisIsBlackMetal YouTube Channel – https://youtu.be/FtfosCUA7iw

“Sworn to Avenge” is being released on June 25th via Depressive Illusions and is available for pre-order / save at the following links: DepressiveIllusions.com, Artach.bandcamp.com, Amazon, Spotify.

Track Listing:
1. Tuiteam an Duine (7:08)
2. Ice Throne (5:09)
3. Shimmer (6:35)
4. Endless Tundra (21:35)

About:
Artach is a two-man black metal band (Sruthán: Guitar/Bass, Fíochmhar: Battery/Vokills/Keys)based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Being from the foggiest, snowiest, wettest, windiest, and gloomiest capital city in Canada, one should not be surprised that this fuels the creation of Black Metal. Their inspiration comes from the land, nature, the bleak weather of the Canadian North, and influential black metal bands.

Since the duo’s formation in the spring of 2019, Artach has been consistently releasing new music. The band’s debut album “Chronicles of a Black Winter” was released digitally during February 2020 and later unleashed on physical CD by Depressive Illusions Records. The full length contained 9 songs of extreme, harsh, and haunting sounds, which included a cover of Celtic Frost’s ‘Jewel Throne’.

Now in 2021, the band returns with their next offering “Sworn To Avenge”, a full-length scourge of raw and relentless bruting gloom. From the calming blasts and savagery of album opener “Tuiteam an Duine” to the ingrained black metal blast beats, and headbanging riffage on “Shimmer” to the 20-minute exploration for the epic “Endless Tundra” about the doomed Franklin expedition of 1846 to the Immortal-esque riffing and unorthodox exorcism of album closer “Winter’s End”, Artach delivers a 65-minute cold deliverance of their surroundings.

The band adds:

“The music on ‘Sworn To Avenge’ is a frigid mixture of topics about nature and how it meets and interacts with the darkness of humankind. The desolation of the world, the planet, and the repeated failure of society to evolve to a place where we are a part of nature and not brutish subjugators of everything in our path… these are all themes described throughout many songs. The music is angry, savage, unhinged, but contains melody and some twists and turns to surprise the listener. Varied song tempos mixing blasting with thrashy, punky, doomy elements keep the sounds interesting and not monotone. Song structures often vary and we never limit a song to a certain length. We indulge and have them be as long, or as short as we think feels right.”

“Sworn To Avenge” will be available digitally from Artach along with CD and cassette via Depressive Illusions Records on June 2021.

– 30 –

“The album is definitely black metal – but there are some really nice elements in that that makes this author think the musicians are truly having some fun. In particular, ‘Frozen In Time’, exhibits this by delivering several rhythmic textures and a variety of guitar techniques. The vocals are also just well placed in this track in both timing and style.” – Brutalism (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Artach have overnight become one of the most interesting bands to come out of the Newfoundland metal scene in some time, not only for the Darkthrone-esque duality of their lineup, but for their genuine appreciation for all things grim and frostbitten and their unique flavour of first wave meets second wave black metal. If you’ve not given Chronicles of a Black Winter a listen yet, give it a spin or two. It’s definitely worth checking out.” – HeavyNFLD (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Artach is a mysterious two-piece Black Metal band who have issued their debut CHRONICLES OF A BLACK WINTER. Artach have spawned some fierce raw and primeval Black Metal. I’m hearing lots of classic Hellhammer/Bathory/Venom and maybe even dipping into second wave stuff like Immortal. It is all very black and grim the way this type of stuff should be.” – Metal-Rules (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“Like the album’s title may suggest, this album’s atmosphere is as cold and bleak as the North winds.  The album is very riff focused with modern production, but it isn’t too clean—I actually really enjoyed the production. Vocally, it is very unique and [not] just the same ol endless blackened screams.” – Metal Temple (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“A solid dose of second wave black metal.” – Astral Noize (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

“This is an album that took a little time to grow on me and after more listens than I care to count, I still hear little twists that I hadn’t heard before. Pretty cool debut from a band that’s doing its own thing in a genre where bands are often content to imitate.” Rating: ⅘ – The Metal Crypt (Album Review – 2020 Chronicles of a Black Winter)

30 immolated; 16 returned Usher In The Spring With A Violent Take On Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring”

Lyric Video Premiere via NoCleanSinging

Top – L-R – Dr. Death (garotte and vomit), Disgusting Smith (Flayer and Barks)
Bottom L-R – Madame Champville (Whips and Shrieks), Mr. Bones (Impalements and Bellows)

30 immolated; 16 returned is an obtuse, frightening, and aggressive avant-garde metal band who are heavily inspired by the Marquis de Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom and are meant to recreate the violent sensorial experience of the book. They bring this horror to life while demonstrating the close relationship between extreme metal and modernist classical music, which many prog and tech-metal fans will enjoy, especially the technical prowess and complex nature of the work as well as the driving primal rhythms, strange harmonies, and quirky melodies.

Their latest offering is the upcoming album “The Burial of the Dead”, an arrangement of Igor Stravinsky’s controversial 1913 ballet “The Rite of Spring”. The first glimpse will be with the single “The Augurs of Spring (The Burial of the Dead)”; 30 immolated; 16 returned share their thoughts on what they call “a spring time sacrificial ritual”:

“It begins with a primal pounding of all instruments in unison in a moderato tempo. It then carries through several textural changes, complex harmonies, and folk-like melodies that trade between guitars. The vocals are minimal, but are inspired by T.S. Eliot’s famous work The Wastelands. In the context of our act – it translates into the brutal murder of innocence to appease our never-ending hunger for the destruction of purity through vice.”

“The Augurs of Spring (The Burial of the Dead)” was the first song from The Rite of Spring that was arranged and learned by the band. In T.S Eliot’s work “The Burial of the Dead”, the poem dwells on the violence of Spring – how it pushes aside the dead that has wasted away from the previous year and then uses it to generate new life. Spectacular new life through the appropriation of the dead. This excerpt is a sneak peek into a larger project, to be finished in 2023.

Chaotic and extreme, 30 immolated; 16 returned take avant-garde, to a new technical level. They are suggested listening for fans of Portal, Howls of Ebb, and Morbid Angel.

The lyric video for the single “The Augurs of Spring (The Burial of the Dead)” can be heard and watched via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“The Burial of the Dead” is out on May 14, 2021.

About:
30 immolated; 16 returned are Hamilton, Canada’s most despicable extreme metal band. Developed through intense and abstract systematic theories of chaos and transgression – 30 immolated depicts the sexual taboos found in the Marquis de Sade’s 120 Days of Sodom, through a non-stop battery of screaming guitars, punishing drums, and thundering bass accompanied by the cries of torture and violence. In addition, Madame Champville often brings her favourite pet(s) / slave(s) along, who under threat of further violence, distribute gifts of Shit Cookies and Blood to the band’s spectators.

30 immolated; 16 returned began their sadistic journey in Edmonton, Alberta, but have since moved to southern Ontario in search of new willing victims! They have since played several concert dates in Toronto and Hamilton, most notably at the Hamilton Death Fest for Neurotic Entertainment and as openers for Toronto’s own Arcanevil, and for Mexican death metal outfits Darkside Ritual and Disrupted.

30 immolated; 16 returned ’s sonic violence has been exported internationally with physical and digital sales in China, the United States, and  Slovenia. Their goal is to continue to expand their terror throughout southern Ontario, Canada, and beyond to the rest of world!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 11, 2021

For fans of Lamb of God, In Flames, Mastodon, Opeth, Tool

Canada’s Mütherload’s New Music Video “The Visitor” Makes Contact With The Unknown

New EP “Ü” Out July 9th, 2021

Hailing from London, ON, Canada, Mütherload has risen from the ashes of Heaven Ablaze, and has been intriguing metalheads already with their video for “The Visitor”. This single, off the upcoming debut EP “Ü”, has already been released and is viewable on YouTube – https://youtu.be/M_-RLpnxlNQ

As the band puts it, “The Visitor” is one of the darker songs on the record, being in a much lower tuning than the last half of the six-track EP. They explain the track in their own words:

“The Visitor was the first release for us and was also chosen for our first music video. The song was originally written years ago as an acoustic song which is why if you listen carefully, you can hear an acoustic track in the chorus. We feel this song best represents our sound as there is a little bit of everything in there. There’s groove, thrash, melody, dynamics, and flow. It’s definitely one of our favorites to play live as well.”

Mütherload started when guitarist Patrick Davison randomly ran into drummer and former bandmate Matt Ashton, several years after his hiatus from Heaven Ablaze had started. After the first jam, four songs were written and the group took off from there. Having previously worked together in Heaven Ablaze, the chemistry was instantly rekindled and everything just clicked.

The tracks presented on the EP are the ones that best sum up the current sound of Mütherload. There’s no concept approach to it, although a few of the tracks do flow in and out of each other. It’s a real, raw, ‘here’s-who-we-are’ style of recording.

Melodic, and groovy, Mütherload is recommended for fans of Lamb of God, In Flames, and Mastodon.

The full EP “Ü” is out July 9, 2021.

Track Listing:
1. Insect (3:54)
2. The Visitor (3:39)
3. Ü (0:44)

6. Lamia (3:24)
EP Length: 16:32

0 Saskatoon’s Before & Apace Are Now Streaming Debut Album “The Denisovan”, Album Stream Premiere via TheProgSpace

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 11, 2021

For fans of Tool, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, Intronaut, The Mars Volta

Saskatoon’s Before & Apace Are Now Streaming Debut Album “The Denisovan”

Album Stream Premiere via TheProgSpace

“The Denisovan” Out May 11, 2021

Before & Apace has existed for a long time in the mind of Devin Martyniuk. He originally started gathering ideas about this project back in high school, when he first read a phrase in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. It caught his attention and became the name of what is now his heavy prog endeavour.

Nearly two decades in the making, Before & Apace is presenting the debut album “The Denisovan”, a collection of epiphanies that have altered Martyniuk’s worldview and have been translated into musical expression. It is a sequence of existential discoveries in odd time signatures and a merger of thinking and feeling.

“The Denisovan” only has four tracks, but they encompass nearly a full hour in total. Although the heavy influences are undeniable, Martyniuk also borrows many compositional facets from the world of symphony orchestras: from variations of a theme, programmatic writing, and movement-based pieces that evoke a concept. “Simultanagnosia”, for example, the album’s final song and its capstone, was to be written as a “trilogy in 4 parts”, where the first 3 would tap into a disjointed version of each of three facets of life: the physical, the mental, and the spiritual. Each movement was meant to be jarring, disharmonious, or incomplete in some way on its own – incomplete or imbalanced. The fourth movement was intended to incorporate a component of each of the first 3 movements such that when integrated together, the disparate parts would only now make sense. Martyniuk explains more:

“I’ve always loved the idea of using music to share ideas with others. Things seem so much more profound this way. So in the same vein as Tool writes about Carl Jung, or how System of a Down scream for prison reform, I always wanted Before & Apace to be something constructive. So I use Before & Apace basically like a compendium of epiphanies and life lessons that have come my way every once in a while – kind of like my recipe book for living a good life. I would love nothing more than to present the Before & Apace discography to my kids or grandkids someday and say, ‘Here it is. This is what Daddy’s all about. This is how I think we should coexist with everyone around us on this one lonely rock in the sky.’ And I’m extremely proud to be able to say that I’ve now made the first volume.”

Martyniuk acknowledges that his music is not for everyone, but he imagines there will be people who resonate with it. He has already begun working on the follow-up. “The Denisovan” is recommended for fans of Meshuggah, Devin Townsend, and The Mars Volta.

“The Denisovan” will be available as of Tursday, May 11, 2021, but can be heard in full now via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

About:
BEFORE & APACE is a heavy progressive rock project from the creative mind of Saskatoon, Canada’s Devin Martyniuk. The project draws from the same well as Tool, The Mars Volta, and Meshuggah. Over a span of multiple years starting in the mid-2000s, while splitting time as a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist between Western Canada’s goth-punk/metal misfits, The New Jacobin Club, and eclectic folk-rock band, Old Joe and the Truth Hurts, Martyniuk began to craft the songs that would ultimately comprise the debut album THE DENISOVAN by BEFORE & APACE.

It was during this time that Devin Martyniuk met drummer Arlan Kopp (also of The Department Heads) as both were percussionists in the University of Saskatchewan’s Wind Orchestra. They bonded instantly over common musical interests and an amicable fondness for Heroes of Might and Magic III. After Devin shared some of his music with Kopp they began composing drum parts together, often beginning by sequencing the intricate parts using Drumkit from Hell (a set of drum samples created by the band Meshuggah).

Bryce Holcomb, one of Martyniuk’s closest friends and musical snob-kin since early adolescence, joined the project shortly thereafter as the vocalist and sometimes-guitarist. Holcomb’s band at the time, Moksha, were just finishing their run and both Martyniuk and Holcomb were excited at the opportunity to collaborate together musically again; they had previously been part of an acoustic guitar trio called Polysorbate-80, but with BEFORE & APACE, they would be able to explore a completely different span of the musical spectrum.

Now with just a bass player needed to round out the band, Jesse Selkirk joined BEFORE & APACE. While Selkirk would ultimately only stay with the project for a short time, he was integral in bringing focus to the final stages of composition. He would also bring in a few riffs that ended up being the first section of the opening track ‘Zeno’. Selkirk eventually stepped away from the project as he would go on to pursue his own creations: The Depth and, more currently, Sleepwreck.

Shortly after Selkirk’s departure, Kaylon Disiewich of Abscission and The Divided would step in and assume the role. In addition to his undeniably monstrous playing, Kaylon most importantly brought a sense of completeness to the band. After making the monumental task of learning the newly-finished and arduous songs, Kaylon added an unmistakable dimension to the band’s sound and would even define some of the most iconic moments (the post-intro drum-and-bass beginning of Simultanagnosia comes to mind).

With the lineup now complete and the songs finished, the band would now share the music in two ways: the stage and the recording. While BEFORE & APACE would go on to play a number of shows, nearly all in the Saskatoon area, their crowning achievement on the stage would be opening for Devin Townsend in Regina, SK. During this same period, the band would begin recording in Martyniuk’s home studio the songs that would comprise the debut album from BEFORE & APACE, THE DENISOVAN.

“The Denisovan” is due out May 11, 2021.

Canada’s Eclipser Usher In Harsh New EP “Pages” And Debut Video For Title Track

Lyric Video Premiere via NoCleanSinging

Set to release their new EP “Pages” on May 28th, Ottawa’s Eclipser is unleashing out the cage, their next single and title track via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

The opener to the five-track record, “Pages” sets the tone of the whole EP both musically and lyrically. In just a little over 3 minutes, Eclipser managed to pack instrumental layers that weave in and out of each other to give the song a very dense and dynamic feel. Lyrically, the song takes a very nihilistic stance, and much like the music, it’s straight to the point.

The band adds about the track:

“Pages is the tale of a weary soul in search of faith. He seeks out God but finds only empty words and misery.”

Harsh and succinct, “Pages” primarily resides in the black metal realm, however, Eclipser also writes using techniques that are found in death metal, and even a bit of grindcore and maintain a formulaic style. The EP was produced by Eclipser; mixed by Mike Raymond of Reverence Audio, and mastered by Topon Das (Fuck The Facts) at Apartment 2 Recording. The EP artwork was done by Misanthropic-Art. It is the fourth release from the band following Pathos (2019), Promo (2018), and the 2017 Demo.

Eclipser was founded in 2017 by Ryan Menard (guitars/vocals) and Christopher Joyal (drums), they are recommended for fans of Ulcerate, and Deathspell Omega.

The entire EP releases on May 28, 2021.

About:
A name derived from the all-obscuring sound they produce, Ottawa, Ontario’s ECLIPSER spews forth a foreboding polarity of soaring melodies and nightmarish dissonance, coiled together to create a dreadful malaise of blackened death metal promised to starve the light of everything it touches.

Out Now! Nightshadow’s New Album “Strike Them Dead”

Out now as of May 7th, Nightshadow unleashes their next slab of infectious strong-hearted power-punching metal with their new full-length “Strike Them Dead” to follow their 2017 self-titled debut EP.

The album can be heard in full on the following platforms:
Spotify – https://spoti.fi/2PYKR6d
CD – Nightshadowofficial.bandcamp.com
Lyric video – “Ripper” – https://youtu.be/GYqVZaEYbl4

Making waves on their local scene of San Diego, CA, Nightshadow has been called upon as one of the most opening supports for touring acts such as Appice Brothers, The Iron Maidens, Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime, Marty Friedman, Hammerfall, Beastö Blancö, and Adrenaline Mob to name a few.

Unleashing the rhythmic beasts with fast, aggressive, and heavy melodic passion, Nightshadow brings unforgiving committed focus to epic power metal with the rich, powerful, dynamic force in the vocals of singer Brian Dell; thunderous, exhilarated energy of drummer Sean Woodman; dominating, double lead shredding magic in guitarists Nick Harrington and Danny Fang; rounding out with the crushing, methodical thumping of bassist Chris Bader laying a secure concrete foundation.

Fast, aggressive, powerful, and loud, Nightshadow‘s new album “Strike Them Dead” features 10 relentless tracks riddled in classic, power, and thrash metal influences. From start to finish, the album showcases their brilliant harmonies, along with a medley of guitar shedding from band axemen Nick Harrington and Danny Fang.

“We are very happy that this album is finally seeing the light of day. It’s our first full-length album and it’s been in the works for a couple of years, so it’s exciting that it is finally done. We got killer artwork for the cover, great production, and it sounds awesome. For a small band like us, having a debut album that looks and sounds as good as it does is really exciting! From the first song to the last song, it’s high-energy, it flows really well, it’s just non-stop. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it!” adds the band.

For fans of Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Iron Maiden, and DIO, Nightshadow‘s “Strike Them Dead” is awaiting to be added to album collections.
