0 Rockshots Records – Symphonic Pirate Metal CRUSADE of BARDS Celebrate Release of New Album w/ New Music Video “Vento Aureo”

Montreal, QC – February 18, 2022

Rockshots Records – Out Now! Symphonic Pirate Metal CRUSADE of BARDS New Album “Tales of the Seven Seas”

New Music Video “Vento Aureo”

Symphonic pirate metal CRUSADE of BARDS are excited to share their treasure chest of epic tales with the release of their sophomore album “Tales of The Seven Seas” via Rockshots Records, out now as of Feb 18th. The album follows their 2019 debut record “Tales of Bards & Beasts”, which was released via Pride & Joy Records.

With an emotional and energetic live-action production for all kinds of audiences from power to folk, from gothic to pagan, the band has been making a name for themselves with touring and festival performances in Germany, Switzerland, France, and their home country of Spain.

Today, in celebration of their new record, the band is offering their latest music video for their track “Vento Aureo”. The song is about the rise of the Marine Republic of Venice. From the era of the Doges to the expeditions to the far east, from the expansion of the trade to the construction of the most unique city in the world. The Italian words in the chorus are the actual lyrics of the hymn of Venice.

The band adds:

“The choice of Vento Aureo as one of our singles and for a video clip was pretty simple. This is the song that better defines what Crusade of Bards has grown to be. You get the pure angelical vocals, the deep growls, the big extravaganza of the orchestra, the catchy chorus, and the raise-your-fists moment. The grandeur of Venice and its ability to expand in a time of wars and political fights with class and diplomacy is also a great reflection of the spirit of the band and how we embark on our journey not comparing to others, but rather trying to be our best version possible without boundaries, without limits.”

Watch “Vento Aureo” at https://youtu.be/TlScyKYsIdg

Crusade of Bards was formed in 2016 by Paolo Andreotti (keyboards & vocals) and Eleanor Tenebre (vocals) to create music that could mix all their favorite styles and concepts. Initially just a studio project, it soon grew into a full live production that the band describes as witnessing the “Wien-Orchestra directed by Davy Jones”.

“The live-action is definitely one of our biggest assets. Don’t expect the classical symphonic metal act filled with solemnity, blue strobes, and thick smoke. Our piracy side, our Mediterranean background, it all comes out into an energetic, vibrant, and dynamic set. Don’t get me wrong, we are not the typical Hollywoodian stereotyped pirates, and we do get serious when it is necessary…just don’t expect a liturgy.” adds the band.

On this second album, Crusade of Bards has a mix of history-inspired songs and social themes. Paolo Andreotti (keyboards & vocals) is the lyricist and he loves history and geography so the whole concept of the record revolves around the 7 seas, 2 songs for every sea, and each of them about stories that took place or refer to the area washed by them. As you dig deeper into the lyrics, the structure chosen tends to use the same rhetorical figures of romanticism and neo-realism with a strong connection between the sound of a certain word and its meaning. This leads to inner references that may be appreciated by just reading the lyrics, even without the music.

“Tales of the Seven Seas” is the band’s second album inside the “Tales” saga, a broader concept that started with their first album “Tales of Bards & Beasts”. It revolves around the figure of the “Bard” and the different tales, songs, and myths that the storyteller would present to the public of the different towns and villages visited. While the first album “Tales of Bards & Beasts” was more about myths and legends, “Tales of the Seven Seas” is mainly based on true historical events that have happened in each of them. The concept can be also found in the musical aspects where traditional instruments, scales, or sounds coming from the cultures that live or lived on the shores of the seven mentioned seas are blended into the songs to create the perfect environment for the listener.

The band explains further:

“With this album, we want to make a statement, we want the fans to really understand who Crusade of Bards is both musically and visually. We want them to open their minds, join us on our journeys through space and time, discover new stories and understand that we, as human beings, have changed very little. Our sins, our mistakes, our victories, and our feelings are not new or undiscovered. They are just there, floating on the ocean, waiting for us to collect them”.

Crusade of Bards “Tales of The Seven Seas” is due out on February 18, 2022 and is recommended for fans of Epica, Eluveitie and Alestorm.

Progressive, aggressive, experimental, and melodic, Calgary, Canada’s Caveat recently released their fourth studio album entitled “Alchemy” on February 11th. Not keeping fans waiting too long, they are excited to share their latest music video for the album’s title track.

As one of the more proggier songs on the full-length, this track really showcases Amanda Marie Bourdon’s powerhouse voice as well as Matt Petti’s incredible bass performance. This song deals with addiction and how we are in search of the magic elixir (in so many cases alcohol) that will make us perceive a better version of ourselves, which in almost every case turns out to be the opposite.

“Alchemy travels into new territory for Caveat, with Amanda Marie Bourden taking on lead vocal duties for most of the song and showcasing some of Caveat’s most ambitious writing to date. With an almost soundtrack vibe of musically and dynamic nuances, Alchemy creates a progressive listening experience unlike any other you’ve ever heard from us. We are excited to bring Caveat’s new sound to both new and old audiences alike.” adds the band.

Watch “Alchemy” via its premiere on Spaceuntravel’s YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/7AbAXHqgguk

Caveat has been making music together for the better part of two decades and in that time they have now put out five records (4 Albums, 1 EP). Their latest release “Alchemy” has been a few years in the making. This long-running band has made a name for themselves in the Canadian metal scene all the while refusing to be constricted to the genre rules and employing a vast array of influences and techniques in their music. Their new album “Alchemy” is no different as it keeps the listener on their toes as they experience this complex and detailed musical offering.

The band says that they have been getting steadily more progressive since 2004 when guitarist Joe Sikorski joined the fray. With him, he brought many possibilities in the realm of guitar harmonies and his virtuosic skills as a soloist. They continue to say that they definitely peaked as far as technical prowess on 2006’s Red, but the twin guitars, cross vocalization and wide variety of styles and songs have been a trademark of Caveat for almost 20 years. There is still innovation to be had though which they explain further:

“The creation of Alchemy has been one that has taken a few years to come to fruition, due to the stage and challenges of the modern world, but with that, we feel like the subject matter and music is more relevant than ever dealing with subjects such as addiction, the loss of a loved one, personal growth and even finding that light at the end of the tunnel. Being the band is now going on two decades of making music together, Alchemy is the first album putting newest member Amanda Marie Bourdon on lead vocal duties. She joined during the recording of our last album showing a glimpse of her vocal potential; this time around Amanda steps into the limelight as the main vocalist, which still sharing vocal duties with Greg Musgrave, but offering a new, fresh take on the Caveat sound taking the listener to uncharted territories that have turned out amazing.”

Once again, Caveat proves that they still have a trick up their sleeves and are fully prepared to give fans something new and enticing, yet familiar to enjoy. Heavily focused on personal experiences, the lyrics on “Alchemy” are both dark and light with switches in feeling and; mood ever-changing throughout the album.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Cynic, and Devin Townsend, “Alchemy” is now available on the Caveatcalgary.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Caveat was formed in mid-2001 by founding members Greg Musgrave on guitar and vocals, Jawad Baloch on drums & Terry Baldwin on bass & backing vocals. Shortly afterward Casey Rogers was asked to join as the new drummer of Caveat. This lineup would go on to record and release the debut album ‘The Biggest Secret’, which they released on May 14th of 2003.

After supporting the album, Caveat decided to expand and recruited Joe Sikorski in 2004 to the second guitar, who had been playing with Thorazine since the mid-’90s.

During 2005 Caveat partnered up with Scarab Productions to record and release a self-titled EP, which ended up landing on numerous campus radio charts and found the band playing larger shows than ever before. After parting ways with Scarab Production in late 2006, the sound of the band evolved yet again, writing more progressive and technical sounding songs, resulting in their 2007 magnum opus full-length album entitled ‘Red’.

To release ‘Red’ Caveat partnered up with Toronto-based indie record label Cyclone Records. To the band’s delight, ‘Red’ was very well received in the metal community and the band played more than ever in & around Western Canada.

Just prior to the release of ‘Red’ several members would branch off and form the deathgrind side project Exit Strategy with Shane Hawco (ex-Thorazine). Exit Strategy quickly became popular in the Western Canadian extreme metal scene. In 2008, after a successful several-year run, Caveat would elect to go into indefinite hiatus to focus on Exit Strategy.

Five years later saw the brief reformation of the band when Calgary Metalfest organizer ‘Big’ Nate Reno asked Caveat to reform to play the inaugural festival in the summer of 2013, and the band obliged. Original bassist Terry Baldwin elected to not be involved with the reunion show, so Caveat turned to former Verbal Deception and current Illuminated Minerva bass player Matt Petti to handle bass duties for the Metalfest performance. After that short hiatus, the band officially reformed at the end of 2014 with Matt Petti replacing Terry Baldwin permanently on bass duties.

Songwriting began for a new album while playing a handful of shows and several metal festivals across western Canada. Recording began in May 2015 and the new album entitled ‘Consummation’ was released on June 24th, 2016. ‘Consummation’ was also a moment of further evolution of Caveat, as local musician Amanda Marie Bourden was asked to join the band as keyboard player and second lead vocalist. Amanda accepted the invitation, and her powerful vocals were featured throughout ‘Consummation’ providing a great contrast to Greg’s clean & brutal vocal attack.

In 2017 and 2018, writing commenced for the album and would feature new vocalist Amanda as more of the primary voice in the new material. This culminated into the most diverse ambitious collection of songs to date. Then in late 2019, recording began for the new album with both Joe and Casey handling main production duties this time. Production was completed in late 2020, but due to the Covid pandemic-related shutdowns, the band decided to shelve its release for the duration of 2021 as a result.

Now Caveat’s delayed fifth album, entitled ‘Alchemy’, is for release in early 2022, and once again Caveat promises to deliver a majestic metallic assault on the senses. Stay tuned and expect the unexpected.

Album and Live Band Line Up:
Amanda Marie Bourdon: Vocals & Keyboards
Greg Musgrave: Guitar & Vocals
Joe Sikorski: Guitars
Matt Petti: Bass
Casey Rogers: Drums

“I’d recommend the album (Alchemy) for fans of Meshuggah, Unleash The Archers, Opeth, Devin Townsend and the like, along with people who like an experimental, progressive feel to their music.” – Metal-Rules

“Track three ‘Infinite’ to me is the best song on the album. Fast and heavy, it really lets rip and is a contrast to what you’ve heard so far on the album. The song is about fear and how it motivates much of our lives. ‘Black Mirror’, inspired by an episode of the TV show of the same name, starts with an almost country and western feel before becoming a full-on rock song with lots of changing tempos and vocals. ‘Ghost’ is melodic and powerful, full of twists and turns from ballad to prog rock. It showcases the talents of both vocalists well with lyrics about overcoming your personal demons.” – Metal-Rules

“On their new album CAVEAT offer seven songs, diverse in their compositions. While the guitars come up with dark, hard-hitting riffs as well as beautiful melodic parts, the mostly powerful, complex rhythmic brings in a great dynamic. By alternating between the different expressions of two strong singers, they lay all kinds of emotions into their music… All-together, “Alchemy” is an amazing listen, recommended for fans of genre-bending music. ” – Mostl Metal

“this album’s claim to take an experimental route is justified. With elements of many Metal subgenres flowing in their songwriting veins, it’s hard to stick Caveat into one category… Nevertheless, Caveat brings strength, and wonder to the Metal scene and has given us only a glimpse of what is to come.” – Metal Godesses

“A production that should be most satisfying for many fans of progressive metal, and perhaps a bit more for those who approach this style of metal from the metal rather than the progressive rock direction at that.” – Progressor

NEWS RELEASE

Just because you’re a hardcore band doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in music outside your genre’s realm. As collective fans of Amy Winehouse, Montreal’s JUNKOWL are paying homage to the artist with a heavy, harsh, and guttural cover music video for her song “Back To Black”.

Vocalist Jesse Frechette explains further on the band’s choice to cover an Amy Winehouse song.

“When we decided to record a cover song, we knew we wanted to go with one that wasn’t metal to begin with and really make it our own. We chose Amy Winehouse because her lyrical content is very dark and I’ve always admired her honest and extremely personal writing style. My mom is a really big fan, so growing up, I got to hear her a lot around the house and in the car, etc. And as soon as I started figuring out the lyrics, I was sucked in. She helped me discover that a song doesn’t necessarily have to be brutal musically to be heavy. It’s all about how it makes you feel and, in that regard, I would consider Amy’s music quite heavy. Back To Black was always my favourite tune of hers, and the other members of the band all liked the song as well. Outside of metal we don’t necessarily share that much common ground, so once we landed on a song that we all liked and that portrayed a dark edgy vibe, we were sold.”

Oozing with rock n’ roll vibes, JUNKOWL is a slick combination of stoner riffs, hardcore energy, and groovy bass. Champions of the “En Route To Heavy Montreal”, which lead to them performing on Canada’s largest metal festival Heavy Montreal in 2019, the quartet unleashed their debut album “Making Out With My Death” during June 2020.

The full length is a slow dark ride of heavy riffs; big dirty bass lines, in-your-face drums, and gut-wrenching screams telling tales of self-loathing, confusion, and intoxication. It’s a solid album, something to enjoy with a few beers, smoke a joint, and bang your head off for 30 minutes.

For fans of Cancer Bats, Every Time I Die, and Underoath, “Making Out With My Death” is available on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music.

About:

Heavy, sexy, and southern. Those are the best words to describe Montreal’s Junkowl.

Formed in 2017, their unique blend of groove metal, stoner, and hardcore is matched with high energy ‘in your face’ performances. A year earlier Jesse Frechette (vocals) met Dom Labrie (drums) and after a few jams they picked up Marco Larosa (guitar) and Samuel Matte (bass) and the rest is history. The writing process is a collaborative one, with melodies and vocals usually forming on the spot.

Moving through the underground music scene, Junkowl quickly made a name for themselves when they won the 2019 ‘En Route Vers Heavy Montreal’; a competition between nearly 200 bands, landing them a spot at that year’s edition of renowned metal festival Heavy Montreal.

On June 5th, 2020, they will release their debut album, “Making Out With My Death”, a 10 track record full of sultry and powerful songs about past regrets and self-destructive behaviour. It includes the band’s favourite “10,000 Vultures”, the first song Junkowl ever wrote, which was completed after the first jam together. Almost all the lyrics were freestyle during that jam.

With no sign of slowing down, Junkowl has more tunes in the works and pouring passion into their live performances and newly recorded tunes. Stay tuned for party animal blues; fat spliffs and heavy riffs.

“2019 Winners of En Route to Heavy Montreal”

“Take a spin through “Sickness Lives”, if you’re a fan of old school hardcore with some new twists and a whole lot of power, this will be for you.” – Metal Injection

“The songs here on Making out with My Death have a real heavy groove to them. At times you can even hear a little bit of the band SUPERJOINT RITUAL. Some really cool bass lines present on here too. Every song sounds different from one another which shows the bands range in playing the heavy music and because of that you can hear a little bit of a mix of different genres here in the music.” – Metal Temple

“The dirty, fat Stoner Sludge Metal riff of “Snakecharmer” is one designed to be accompanied by a beer and the gut-wrenching roar of “blow your brains out, blow my brains out” that brings it to it to its unnatural conclusion will no doubt be chanted by audiences across all lands as the band hit the road.” – Metal Noise

“Montreal hardcore rock n rollers Junkowl have released their new single ‘Quarantine Us All’, a slick combination of stoner riffs, hardcore energy, and groove metal. It’s ferocious and relentless from the offset, even when it veers out of hardcore territory and into the sludgier moments. It even has some technical moments, although they certainly borrow heavily from their influences (namely Every Time I Die and Cancer Bats) it is a banger in it’s own right, and given some time to breathe and develop I think this band could bring something monumental to the table.” – Backseat Mafia“

“Quarantine Us All” – Montreal’s southern rock infused metallers JUNKOWL drop new venomous track” – Idioteq

“the group combines very heavy stoner riffs with the energy of punk rock and hardcore. A group to discover absolutely.” – Mad Breizh

“stoner-like riffs, a bit of a hardcore sound overall.. cool edge to it too.” – Moshtpit Radio – WORT FM 89.9 (Madison, WI)

“Junkowl’s debut album Making Out With My Death is a powerful first offering from the independent hard rock band. Its musical arrangements join influences from a variety of bands that make the songs in themselves and from one to the next, powerful just from this aspect. The record’s lyrical themes are just as heavy as its musical content, as noted. Its sequencing puts the finishing touch to its presentation. Each noted item is important in its own way. All things considered, they make the album a work that bodes well for Junkowl’s future.” – Phil’s Picks

A new player in the genre of modern instrumental extreme music, YAWN brings something new and dynamic to listeners. People with similar aesthetic interests will perceive this sound as a breath of fresh air with heavier-than-hell riffs, larger-than-life contrasts, as the band introduces collective musical improvisation to the modern progressive metal scene.

The 37-minute album features beautiful improvised soundscapes, improvised guitar solos and brutal breakdowns, infectious grooves and mind-melting rhythms, and introspective ambiance alongside experimental electronics – this record comfortably combines all these elements in a logical and musical way. YAWN explains further:

“We are extremely excited to be releasing our debut album “Materialism” on Mindsweeper Records. Almost three years since we formed this band, we are now ready to show the world our exciting musical developments over the years in its best format. “Materialism” tells you the story of five guys giving everything they’ve got for the sake of breathing new life into the modern metal scene and tearing apart any limitations to what improvised music can sound like. This record is a volcano erupting under the frozen Nordic jazz scene of today. This music also has the missing piece of the puzzle we tried putting together growing up, listening to our favourite metal bands, getting inspired by them, learning our instruments because of them, and so on.”

This album is for everyone who believes there is still a lot to be done, broadening the horizons of improvised extreme music and modern metal. All of their recordings are DIY (except for mastering). Every sound on this full-length is recorded by the band in their studio, and the production is a collaboration between Oskar, Torfinn, and Mike, along with the mix done entirely by Oskar.

Raw and unconventional, YAWN is recommended for fans of Vildhjarta, Gojira, and Tool.

Before “Materialism” officially drops on February 18, 2022 via Mindsweeper Records, YAWN has teamed up with TheProgSpace.com HERE.

About:

“Yawn, anything but a bore” – Heavymetal.no

As 2022 begins, Yawn stands at the ready with their first full-length release: “Materialism.” The album reflects the band’s vision of bringing improvisation-based music to the fore in the context of modern concert production. The album features beautiful improvised soundscapes combined with aesthetics drawn from modern progressive metal bands like Meshuggah, Car Bomb, and Vildhjarta.

Yawn’s live performances have been described as a magical experience where improvised, open, and formless soundscapes seamlessly transform into and away from machine- precise rhythms, all without warning from the performers on stage.

Since the band’s debut in 2020, Yawn has released their first single “Cement,” toured across southern Norway, and played for 15000 housebound viewers during a streaming concert from Chateau Neuf in Oslo shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic reached Norway. After the release of Materialism on February 18th, 2022, the band will embark on a European release tour from February 25th to March 9th.

Outshine has always had a vision of darkness and melancholy in a visual landscape with dark tunes accompanying them ever since the very start when founder, guitarist, and vocalist Jimmy Boman started the band.

The new songs on “The Awakening” are produced by Jimmy Boman & Kenny Boufadene at Studio Meltdown, Sweden, and were recorded and re-recorded numerous times at Grand Recordings, Gothenburg, Sweden between 2015-2019. Final recordings were done in 2020 at Studio Meltdown, Kungsbacka, Sweden.

The band had this to say about the upcoming release:

“Well, “The Awakening” is about what has happened in the world during the pandemic. Covid-19 times has taken a toll on the music world and showed that in troubling times the ones in power, the elites, don´t care about the common person.

The lies, corruption, hidden agendas, and the rise of fascist behaviour from both unknown and known “leaders” that expands anything we´ve seen in decades are influencing and misleading people around the world making them turn on each other.

A depraved glorification of the elite that hasn´t the common human being in mind has risen.

Identity politics that put people in boxes to divide us, modern segregation in the making. Our “heroes” are lecturing us on how to think and behave despite that they are totally disconnected from the reality common people live in. This is in company with parts of the mainstream media, pushing society to silence, submission, and during the pandemic, financial disaster.

The pandemic has clearly shown who gains and who is not. The poor and middle-class are getting poorer, the rich insanely rich and the politicians folding to comply to not be targeted.”

“The Awakening” will feature eight dark, melancholy, film noir-ish, heavy, and gloomy tracks with more of a Sisters Of Mercy, Paradise Lost & Type O Negative feel to it with influences from 1980’s horror movies soundscapes. The album will be supported with a few music videos that will have storytelling and show how everything is connected.

Boman adds:

“The album’s first songs are about the dark side of the pandemic and then the other songs turn more to fighting back, realizing that you yourself need to wake up and open your eyes. The final songs are about we, the common people, need to unite and fight back. Should you trust everything that is said and shown in mainstream media and TV? The idea of this record is to get the listener deep into darkness and soul-searching to awake and open their eyes. I really hope they hear, see, and feel that now, finally, all pieces are in place for what Outshine should be all about. The videos we plan to present, the sound, the lyrics, are all in sync. And that they take the lyrics to heart since they are as important as a reflection on what has happened in society the last few years during the pandemic.”

Circa Arcana, from Texas, formed during the pandemic, and after trial and error, lots of ups and downs, and adjusting to a new way of collaborating, have a debut EP ready for the world to hear. They have already released two of the five tracks as video singles, and listeners eagerly dove into the cacophony of breakdowns juxtaposed with infectious choruses that are easy to sing along to. Guitarist Johny Serna explains the record:

“This EP touches on a lot of deep concepts. I have always been a believer that a song should be interpreted by the listener and in one’s personal interpretation one can find their meaning to the song. We do touch on dark themes, some personal stuff, and some dark conceptual stuff. But honestly, if you want to figure out meanings to the songs, you’re gonna have to dig a little deeper to figure those out! We incorporate a lot of symbolism on our social accounts, our videos, photos, etc. All I can say is if you enjoyed “Esoteric” and “The Tower” then you are definitely going to enjoy this release!”

Musically, the EP takes you through a journey, as you go through the record you can listen to all the nuances that you heard in the opening song “Ten Of Swords”. It is followed by “The Chariot”, the reckless powerhouse on the EP, three minutes of nonstop in-your-face aggression. Then comes the “arena metal” anthem “The Tower”, which is quick to pick up. Things get a bit lighter with “Luna”, a beautiful song with few screams. Closing the record is “Esoteric” the first song written for the band and the first single. It’s an eerie song, lyrically touching on the topic of addiction and overcoming it.

As a whole musically, the EP is a fast-paced rollercoaster to the face with the songs flowing together and showing a strong diversity in their music styles. Circa Arcana presents a solid first effort and is recommended for fans of Wage War, Like Moths To Flames and We Came As Romans.

“Bridget Vīgintī” is streaming now in full via IDIOTEQ.com before it officially drops on February 18th.

“Do you like melodic metalcore? If you do, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy what Texas metalcore band Circa Arcana are doing with their newest single, “Esoteric”. Formed last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, you might not think it a good time for a new band to form, but art often flourishes during the darkest times. It’s no different for Circa Arcana – the band is currently finishing their first EP entitled Bridget Viginti, slated for later release in 2022. A decent comparison might be mid-period Killswitch Engage, It Dies Today, or even the underrated Diecast album Internal Revolution, as the band’s combination of bright melodies and aggression will fit right at home to fans of that style.” – New Fury Media

“Circa Arcana may have gotten started last year, but some of the members have been around in the El Paso for a WHILE. Their sound has compared to It Dies Today, I See Stars, Blessthefall & Howard Jones-era Killswitch Engage.” – Daniel Paulus – KLAQ 95.5 FM – El Paso, TX

Streaming Now! Debut Album From CHOREOMANIC (PESTILENCE Bassist Joost van der Graaf’s Experimental Prog/Funk Project)

Album Stream Premiere via TheProgSpace

Self-Titled Debut Out February 18, 2022

CHOREOMANIC is the experimental prog / funk project created by bassist Joost van der Graaf (Pestilence, Dew-Scented, I CHAOS) when the world came to a halt in spring 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. With canceled tours and no local gigs, Graaf started writing music in which different influences from his past came together. The final product was an album that features twelve bass-orientated tracks experimenting in realms of prog, funk, and everything else on the planet that has musically inspired Graaf over his thirty-plus year career. The full length’s lyrical concept explores Choreomania, an uncontrollable urge to dance, especially in a frenzied, convulsive manner also known as the Medieval Dancing plagues. Graaf explains in further detail:

“In 2019, I became pretty obsessed by the mysterious dancing plagues of the middle-ages. I started reading different studies, learning about the different theories about the cause. It’s still one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in history! One of the theories that made the most sense to me is that people had been suppressed by the ruling class (church, inquisition) for generations. There was collective fear of God and let’s not forget about the black plague! So there was this anxiety relief at a certain point that became infectious and caused convulsions and psychotic dancing, resulting in exhaustion, dehydration, and even death. It spread across Europe and there were large gatherings in towns and villages with frantically dancing people, accompanied by traveling musicians and all kinds of interested parties. These things sometimes became true festivals with people selling food, etc. With today’s reality, the phenomenon seems to have become relevant once again! This project is not only a musical statement, but also a call to action against (cultural) oppression. May everyone move and create in freedom!”

For the record’s guest musicians, Graaf recruited drummer Koen Herfst (VandenBerg, I CHAOS, Dew-Scented), keyboardist Thijs Ronteltap (Disuse, Epistulum), saxophonist Tommie Freke (Gallow Street), trombonist Jeroen Verberne (Sjef’s Special) along with trumpeter and bugler Gidon Nunes Vaz. Once the full-length was mixed and mastered at Nutsville Noiselab, The Hague, the self-titled debut “CHOREOMANIC” was a fact and ready to take on the world.

Today, before the debut full length officially drops on February 18th, CHOREOMANIC has teamed up TheProgSpace for its full stream premiere HERE.

“This was a very personal effort containing numerous musical and lyrical influences on top of a metal-related energy. At this point, this is what comes out when I write without thinking. In that sense, personally, for me, this album is already a success because that was exactly my intention. I’m not even sure if there ARE any fans for this Frankenstein… I do know that fans of Pestilence for instance, or of one of the other death metal bands I was in, will probably be a bit surprised at least. I like to think that crazy people (like myself) will appreciate this… That would actually mean I will have a loooot of fans!!” adds Graaf.

Recommended for fans of Mr. Bungle, Zappa, John Zorn, Infectious Grooves, and Brian Setzer Orchestra, CHOREOMANIC is available for digital pre-save at https://emubands.ffm.to/choreomanic and limited edition CD pre-order at https://choreomanic.bandcamp.com.

About:
Dutch bassist Joost van der Graaf (1973) has been active in music since he was fourteen years old. In the early 90’s he toured Europe for the first time, as a bass player/ vocalist in Creepmime (Mascot Records), to promote the album ‘Chiaroscuro’. After Creepmime he studied music in Amsterdam and became a working musician, performing and teaching.

In the new millennium, Joost co-formed I CHAOS (RITF records, Suburban distr.) The band released two albums: ‘The Human Repellent’ and ‘Masterbleeder’. In this period he was also a stand-in bassist for Sinister, touring Russia.

In 2012, he became a permanent member of GermanThrashers Dew-Scented (Metalblade), releasing three full-lengths with them up to 2018: ‘Icarus’, ‘Insurgent’ & ‘Intermination’. The band toured extensively through Europe but also in Japan, together with renowned bands from the international metal scene (Testament, Exodus, Death Angel, and others).

Joost teaches ‘Bass Skills’ and ‘Band Development’ at The Metal Factory in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Since 2019 he proudly plays with Dutch iconic act Pestilence (Agonia Records) appearing on the album ‘Exitivm’.

In 2020, he started working on his own project CHOREOMANIC, in which different musical influences from his past come together. Obviously one of these influences is metal, but also other styles like funk & prog.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – February 16, 2022

Rockshots Records – ANNIKEN Unveils Debut Single / Title Track Off Upcoming Album “Climb Out of Hell” Due Out May 2022

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their signing of Norwegian solo metal artist Anniken for the release of her debut album “Climb Out of Hell” due out May 2022.

Anniken has been a part of the Norwegian heavy metal scene for years with her band Darkest Sins, the studio project Ana – Metal for Charity, as well as being a part of her husband Marius Danielsen’s trilogy Legend of Valley Doom, both in the studio and with the live band. While in Darkest Sins she opened for bands such as Anthrax, Jorn, TNT, and UDO along with Legend of Valley Doom she has worked with legendary musicians such as Ralf Scheepers, Amanda Somerville, Roland Grapow, Matt Barlow, Doogie White, Jennifer Batten, and also actor John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones movies.

Writing her own songs and having a profound love of lyrics, Anniken is now progressing into her solo endeavours. A few of the songs on “Climb Out of Hell” are co-written with her husband Marius Danielsen.

Anniken comments about her first full-length:

“To release my solo album is both incredibly exciting and completely terrifying at the same time. As part of a band, you do not feel as vulnerable. But here I stand alone. Completely exposed and I really hope that people will love this album as much as I do. It is not quite the same as any of my former projects. This is just me, just Anniken. My songs, my stories. It doesn’t easily fit into one specific metal subgenre, but I don’t like being labeled anyway. I wanted the album to be melodic and heavy with hints of all my inspirations such as Metallica, Pink, Iron Maiden, and Linkin Park, while at the same time not sounding like any of them.”

Anniken‘s plan to become a solo artist has always been there. Some of the songs on this album were written years ago by her. She has enjoyed being a part of a band and therefore did not prioritize this project in the past.

“It is fun to write with other artists and see how the songs turn out both in the studio and live. But writing with others also means to compromise. And that is one of the main reasons behind starting my solo project. I wanted to show what I could do, without the guys (yes, the bands I’ve played with always consisted of all guys and me). It is, unfortunately, easy to underestimate female artists in metal. At least, that is my experience. There aren’t as many women within the genre as there are men. Very often I experienced that people just assumed everything was written by the men in the group. I don’t mind being “just the singer”, but I would love to show the world that I am, in fact, more.” adds Anniken.

Anniken‘s album features nine tracks to expose new fans to not only a musical experience, but also a lyrical one.

“Firstly, I want people to enjoy the music. Secondly, I want them to notice the lyrics. I love listening to music while reading them and trying to understand the stories that are being told. I hope that the listeners feel the same way. I like to also add, that some of the songs were written a while back. I had others that didn’t make the cut. The song Star was originally a song my husband and I wrote for our band Darkest Sins. It was part of our first release. I have always loved the song and I have wanted to do my own version of the song for a long time. The song No Name was the last song I wrote for the album. I had decided the album needed one more song, but kept postponing writing it. Since we didn’t have a title, we just wrote “No Name” in the plan for the studio, and eventually, I came to love that title, so I decided to write a song with the title No Name. I always have ideas for songs; in my head, on my phone, or written down in notebooks. There will be more music. As long as there is a want for it, I will make it.”

A varied metal album that is melodic, raw, and catchy, there are different types of songs for every kind of metal fan. Some slow, some fast, most of them heavy. Some of the songs have a deeper meaning to them, while others are just exactly what you think they are.

Today, in preview to the record’s release, Anniken is sharing the lyric video for its first single and its title track, which can be watched and heard at the following link:

Lyric Video – Climb Out of Hell – https://youtu.be/vYvatSJq59c
Spotify – https://spoti.fi/3sxGSga

Anniken adds:

“This song was born from the phrase “and because I’ve been broken too, I recognize the pieces of you”, which I wrote after someone asked me how I could tell that a person in our lives was hurting before they told us. It was supposed to be a ballad, but the results were a faster, more Iron Maiden-inspired song. That happens a lot, though. I think I am writing a ballad, but my songs just keep wanting to be heavy. And the results are better for it.”

“Climb Out of Hell” will be available on May 13, 2022.

0 Experimental Extreme Music Norway’s YAWN Presents Their Futuristic, Chaotic “Tokamak IV : Critical Mass” Off Upcoming Debut Album “Materialism”

Experimental Extreme Music Norway’s YAWN Presents Their Futuristic, Chaotic “Tokamak IV : Critical Mass” Off “Materialism”

YAWN; coming from Norway, are releasing their second single off their upcoming debut “Materialism”, a fresh take on metal with jazz and prog overtones. Three pieces of music broken into shorter movements combine to make just over 37 minutes of a full continuous piece of music. The band explains what the listener can expect with “Tokamak IV : Critical Mass”:

“’Critical Mass’ is the second part of the piece titled ‘Tokamak’. The track is mostly based on a repetitive guitar phrase going over and over, printing itself in your memory whether you want it or not. The melody was based on a simple conversation between Oskar and Torfinn: “Why do we limit our tonal language to the chromatic scale, dividing notes only down to the semitones? Why not dive into the world of quartertones?” A few guitar-tunings later, we ended up with this simple, but catchy melody going on and on in both our heads, the following week. The melody continues on throughout the piece called ‘Tokamak’”

YAWN takes inspiration from their favourite artist and genres and then completely turns it upside down as they inject their improvisation into the mix. Taking it a step further they create their own software to digitally process the instruments. Prewritten music is composed by Oskar and Torfinn, all algorithms and code digitally treating/processing the music is written and performed by Mike McCormick and all three of them contribute to the improvised parts.

It is important to the band to discover and develop the most obscure song ideas that normally wouldn’t fit into the context of the common musical genres. All tools are allowed, with a common goal of creating interesting sounds. These 3-year-old preferences are the fundamentals of the final piece “Materialism”, which is recommended for fans of Car Bomb, Vildhjarta, and Gojira.

Rockshots Records – THE HUMAN TORNADO’s New Music Video “What I’m Waiting For”

New Album “Love Is Démodé” Out March 11, 2022

“It’s so easy calling someone crazy for talking to themselves in front of a mirror. This song was born from the madness distinguishing each one of us and from the eternal struggle between body and mind. It musically represents the swing of moods and the physical and psychological natural consequences of this inner challenge someone may have.” adds the band.

Offering a slab of smashing knock-out heavy groove rock, The Human Tornado‘s “Love Is Démodé” follows their 2016 debut record “Storm In A Ketchup” (Hidden Stone Records). Since their inception in 2014, the band has been making shockwaves out of their home country of Italy supporting touring bands such as Twelve Foot Ninja, Destrage, and Crazy Town.

The album was self-produced by The Human Tornado with mixing and mastering done by Marco Paradisi at Boat Studio. The album features ten hurricane tour de force tracks that will leave fans breathless and eager to set the track listing on repeat from beginning to end. The lyrical concept behind the album is love, one of the strongest feelings of deep affection. It has different aspects and it can be addressed to another person, an animal, or a passion. But, if it’s pure, this doesn’t matter. The band explains further:

“For some years this feeling of love has been declining, going out of fashion. In fact, in our society finding people loving what they do is increasingly difficult and often image, power, success are the most important aspects of life. Moreover, these goals are more and more often achieved by means of questionable actions and negative feelings. In this album we want to express our idea of love in particular towards music, showing in every single song even the dark and negative sides coming from love in our life.”

“Love Is Démodé” will be available on March 11th via Rockshots Records and available for pre-order at https://bit.ly/THT_CD
