REBEL PRIEST

Rebel Priest is a no-nonsense, real-deal rock n’ roll band composed of three seasoned musicians who have been making their way through the Western Canadian rock n roll scene for years. Vocalist/bassist Jayme Black (Lust Boys, The Toxiks); guitarist/vocalist Benny Kemp (Lust Boys, Road Rash); and drummer/vocalist Nate Pole (Kill Matilda, The Toxiks) bring nothing but unadulterated, high energy grease infused Trash N’ Roll!

The band has had the pleasure of touring Japan, and performing alongside bands such as Udo (Accept), Lordi, Diamond Head, Crystal Pistol, Flotsam, and Jetsam along with playing many headlining gigs with the energy of Motorhead meets Motley Crue. Since forming in 2014, the band has released three studio albums “R’ley Heavy” (2019), Enabler (2017 ), Self-Titled (2015) along with one live record “Dead Alive @ SBC (2017).

Now in 2022, they offering up a slab of new music in the shape of a new EP “Lesson In Love” via Batcave Records/Thundermoose Entertainment on June 24th to follow their 2021 EP “Lost In Tokyo”. The forthcoming EP “Lesson In Love” is four tracks that ready’s fans to hear the band’s NWOTHM influences along with their brand of slurry heavy Rock n Roll.

Compared to last year’s EP “Lost In Tokyo”, which was written in Japan at the very end of 2019 about their adventures in the country, “Lesson In Love” takes a new avenue as they explain:

“On this EP, we really tried to lighten it up and go back to the energy and feel that got us playing in the first place, music for and adventure or memory-making music! The soundtrack for that summer you’ll never forget or that time you did that thing and you’ll always think of it when you hear this song. It’s a feel-good and takes no prisoners combo at the same time!”

Canada’s Elektric Mistress Conjure A Hazy Occult Séance In “Chapter 99”

Halifax, Nova Scotia’s Elektric Mistress has a new EP “Chapter 99” coming out, which promises to be a sonic blast of psychedelic groove tinged with occult overtones and sludgy riffs. This will be their second EP, following their self-titled in 2019. Since then, they have added a new guitarist and a potent new layer of sounds for fans to discover. The first single they are releasing is the title track, a stomper that will get you moving and vibing to the lyrical themes of communing with the dead. The band explains further:

“Chapter 99 was honestly not the first choice for this single; we had some trouble deciding just what to present, because we think they’re all pretty ok, heh. We decided to get an objective set of ears to sort out our predicament, and this one stood out above the rest. It’s about trying to connect with the other side. It has a definite occult overtone, in the oldest heavy music tradition.”

Having a second guitarist has added to the complexity of the band, although their evolution has remained fairly steady over the past couple of years. They have started to incorporate guitar harmonies to complement their stoner rock style but still leave room to be unique and creative and resonate with listeners. Lyrics are inspired by events, people, memories, feelings, or certain energy. There are plenty of psychedelics, sci-fi, witchcraft, and apes!

The EP “Chapter 99” was entirely recorded and self-produced by the band, and all the stringed instruments and keys are digital. It was mixed and mastered by Alex Burris at Fang Recordings, and the EP artwork was done by Ricardo Arreola.

Elektric Mistress is not out to reinvent the wheel, they deliver straightforward rock n’ roll vibes for good times and bad. They are recommended listening for fans of Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Pink Floyd.

We think we’ve been steady on the course as far as evolution goes for this next release. Out Now! LionSoul unveils their new album “A Pledge To Darkness” via Rockshots Records. The band’s third full-length follows their previous releases “Welcome Storm” (2017) (Limb Music), “Omega” (2013), and EP “The Throne” (2015). Since the band’s formation in 2012, they have shared the stage and toured with artists such as Domine, Iron Savior, GammaRay, Kissin’ Dynamite, Geoff Tate, Tygers Of Pan Tang in Italy and across Europe along with festival appearances on Metal For Emergency (IT), Biker Fest (IT), and Loud and Proud Festival (IT).

The new album “A Pledge To Darkness” is a huge step forward in LionSoul‘s career as it is more heterogeneous, in some ways darker than the previous ones. Featuring 11 roaring cosmic tracks, it brings with it nuances ranging from thrash to melodic death metal, including some death metal vocals in order to give more emphasis to certain passages. The album is a composition of different stylistic approaches that converge into the power/heavy roots that still remain at the basis of their sound. The songs range from a classic power metal opener with spatial atmospheres up to a futuristic western ballad, from speed metal tracks – that wink at thrash and melodic death metal – to 80’s synth-wave tunes, from mid-tempo hymns in Teutonic/industrial style to the almost omnipresent Cyberpunk themes. “A Pledge to Darkness” remains in all respects a power metal album, but with some dosed contaminations. Overall, its goal is to take you on a hyperspace voyage from Tatooine to 2049 Los Angeles, while passing through Tranctor. The band explains further:

“Imagine your planet at the end of its life and you have the burden to preserve the knowledge so you take a spaceship for a trip to L A in 2049 meanwhile you pass through a portal between 1953 to 1986 and also you change your skin to save the human race from a virus.”

After two years of hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, Wacken Metal Battle USA returned in 2022 for battles across America. From the months of January to April, over 100 bands from across the states battled each other out in Portland (OR), Seattle (WA), Las Vegas (NV), Akron (OH), Los Angeles (CA), San Diego (CA), Orange County (CA), Crockett (Bay Area – CA), Phoenix (AZ), Tucson (AZ), Austin (TX), San Antonio (TX), Lubbock (TX), El Paso (TX), and Houston (TX).

For its last three years (2017-2019), Wacken Metal Battle USA has hosted battles across the country to send one independent metal band to perform at the world’s largest metal festival Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. 2019 saw the festival celebrate its 30th anniversary, but due to Covid, the 2020 and 2021 editions were both canceled. As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2022 will be the 31st edition of the festival and will be held from August 4th to 6th. The 2022 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Slipknot, Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Judas Priest, Limp Bizkit, As I Lay Dying, Lacuna Coil, Danko Jones, Gwar, Death Angel, Tarja, and many more. For over a decade at Wacken Open Air, independent metal bands from around the globe have been performing in front of thousands and competing against one another for one to be crowned champion of the international battle at the festival along with winning multiple prizes. For 2022, Wacken Metal Battle USA is returning to America and will be hosting qualifying rounds in select cities across the nation.

How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter where one band will move forward to the American national final (date and city to be determined). The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the Wacken Open Air 2022 and compete against the winners of 29 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.

The Circle Pit Presents Anachronistic’s Hilarious True Story In “700 And 19 Ways Of Decay”

Anachronistic is the product of two ex-pats joining forces to create something truly unique, a heavy black metal sound, but overlaid with hardcore vocals. Armed with a vision, lyrics, and a long list of influences, American vocalist Matt Ramarge approached Ukrainian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Umarlak to breathe life into the project. They released their debut EP “700 And 19 Ways Of Decay” last month and it can be streamed in its entirety over at The Circle Pit at https://youtu.be/e3n1kbtmLBs

They explain the album in their own words:

“We tried to encapsulate a dark and raw merging of genres with this band. The vision behind Anachronistic’s initial trilogy LP release is to get people hooked on the concept and leave fans waiting for the next chapter to come out. Sonically and emotionally this album is really fun to listen to from a “bird’s eye viewpoint”. Once fans dig deeper into the song lyrics and album cover they will realize this is a true, hilarious story that will continue through 2 more releases, getting darker, heavier, and nastier with each release. Even as a standalone release, “700 and 19 Ways of Decay” will stand strong amongst fans of black metal and hardcore.”

The premise of the album centers a lot around Matt’s life experiences and incorporates elements from his job; initially, it was intended to be a spoken word project, but it morphed into a unique, tongue-in-cheek band that is serious about heavy riffs and energetic vocals. 700-19 is the actual contract paperwork for working in Korea as a US contractor, the album art, done by Adi Dechristianize, features Matt’s actual office with his persona Major Skinnis coming out of the monitor. This is the first chapter in a hilarious true story that will span three albums, the next is already underway.

Blackened hardcore is an interesting new twist on the parent genres. It has the technical power of black metal, mixed with hardcore energy that inspires headbanging, moshing, and stage diving. Anachronistic is recommended for metalheads and non-metalheads alike, anyone who is looking for something unique and raw.

Fans of Blood For Blood, Hatebreed, and Behemoth should definitely take note.

Coming from Iran, the two founding members of Heterochrome have had a myriad of challenges to overcome through the years. One of the outlets they utilize to express these feelings is through music. The latest single off their upcoming album “From the Ashes” tells two of these stories as they share:

“’Time’s Up’ consists of two stories about the difficulties of love and the emotional devastation that comes from it. The first part deals with a deep sorrow from the mentioned devastation in Arash’s life, and the second part recalls a memory from Mida. Arash wrote this song shortly after a life changing period of time and brought it forward, even though it sounded different than their previous work, sounding a lot more simple and raw. Mida’s life story sounds like something out of a telenovela! A very progressive one, but a telenovela all the same.”

The album was written and recorded over four years, during which Mida had to say goodbye to their fiancé many times, sending them off to the US alone, because of the travel ban. Today the spotlight is being focused on Norwegian solo metal artist Anniken and her latest single off her forthcoming debut album “Climb Out of Hell” on May 13, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Entitled, “Spotlight”, the single and album opener kicks is a track that many musicians can relate to. It’s about the anxiety and desire for success along with the love and hate relationship of being up on stage with the spotlight focused on you.

Anniken has been a part of the Norwegian heavy metal scene for years with her band Darkest Sins, the studio project Ana – Metal for Charity, as well as being a part of her husband Marius Danielsen’s trilogy Legend of Valley Doom, both in the studio and with the live band. While in Darkest Sins she opened for bands such as Anthrax, Jorn, TNT, and UDO along with Legend of Valley Doom she has worked with legendary musicians such as Ralf Scheepers, Amanda Somerville, Roland Grapow, Matt Barlow, Doogie White, Jennifer Batten, and also actor John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones movies.

Writing her own songs and having a profound love of lyrics, Anniken is now progressing into her solo endeavours. Anniken‘s debut album “Climb Out of Hell” features nine tracks, a few of them co-written with her husband Marius Danielsen.

It is a varied metal album that is melodic, raw, and catchy with different types of songs for every kind of metal fan. Some slow, some fast, most of them heavy. Some of the songs have a deeper meaning to them, while others are just exactly what you think they are.

Anniken adds:

“Firstly, I want people to enjoy the music. Secondly, I want them to notice the lyrics. I love listening to music while reading them and trying to understand the stories that are being told. I hope that the listeners feel the same way. I like to also add, that some of the songs were written a while back. I had others that didn’t make the cut. Overall, it is fun to write with other artists and see how the songs turned out both in the studio and live. But writing with others also means compromising. And that is one of the main reasons behind starting my solo project. I wanted to show what I could do, without the guys (yes, the bands I’ve played with always consisted of all guys and me). It is, unfortunately, easy to underestimate female artists in metal. At least, that is my experience. There aren’t as many women within the genre as there are men. Very often I experienced that people just assumed everything was written by the men in the group. I don’t mind being “just the singer”, but I would love to show the world that I am, in fact, more.”

Wrapping up their 2022 edition on April 15-17, Canada’s premier melodic and power metal festival HYPERSPACE is wasting no time presenting their lineup for next year’s 2023 festivities in Vancouver, BC.

The lineup for the fourth edition of the festival will feature headliners California melo-death warriors EXMORTUS, Edmonton Juno Award winners and heavy metal champions STRIKER, along with HMF alumni American power metallers JUDICATOR and fantasy metallers LORDS OF THE TRIDENT among many more to be announced for the three-night event from April 13-15. Highlights of the confirmed bands include American melodic death metal band Exmortus, whose lyrics mostly deal with battles and war along with Striker, one of Canada’s favourite heavy metal shredders and 2020 Juno award winners for Best Metal / Hard Music Album of The Year for their sixth studio album “Play To Win”. Tucson, AZ’s Judicator is returning for their second performance at the festival with their historical-based storytelling metal. They will be supporting their latest and fifth album ‘Let There Be Nothing’ out now via Prosthetic Records. Making their festival debut will be Madison, WI’s Lords of the Trident. The five-piece band is known for its mixture of classic, power, and modern progressive metal combining strong vocals, complex instrumentation, and an expansive fantasy backstory to create energetic live shows. The band appears on stage in armor and costumes.

Over the three editions of Hyperspace Metal Festival, bands from all over the world have come to play power, prog, melodic death, and speed metal on the Canadian West Coast. In Support of Latest Album “Textos Raros – Vol 1 – 2001-2011”

In August 2022, Toronto’s White Cowbell Oklahoma released their first archival album “Textos Raros – Vol 1 – 2001-2011” via their very own label Slick Monkey Records. The album featured over 40 minutes of eleven rare and never-released digital tracks.

Songs such as “Take Me Down to Mexico”, “(Just) Some Things a Man Can’t Keep Inside”, “Southern Grace (Live)” and “Black Mountain Top (Whiskey Woman) (Live)” have only appeared on the vinyl version of 2012’s “Buenas Nachas” whereas other recorded songs “Black Night” (Deep Purple cover) and “Streetknifes ‘R’ Go” never made the final cut of the band’s discography and were made available to be heard for the first time.

Today, in support of the record, White Cowbell Oklahoma announce they will be hitting the road across their home province of Ontario from April till June.

The progressive/power metal group IMMORTAL GUARDIAN has unveiled the music video for their new single, “Ozona.” The song is the first new music from the group since last year’s release of their critically-acclaimed concept album “Psychosomatic.” The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/vFXXsqk__hA. “Ozona” is available for download/streaming on all digital music platforms. The band is also now more than halfway through their current nationwide tour alongside video game-inspired shredders Powerglove. The full remaining tour dates are below.

“A few years, while we were on the road, we broke down in the middle of nowhere in a lil’ Texas town called Ozona,” explains guitarist Gabriel Guardian. “We had no way of getting home, and no money to resolve our problem. We just wished and wished we could get home somehow…. While we waited, we decided to write a song about our experience because we knew that we weren’t the only ones going through times like this. This song is for all the traveling souls just trying to find their way back home.”

IMMORTAL GUARDIAN‘s current tour with Powerglove has the band once again taking the sounds of “Psychosomatic” on the road following two lengthy tours that dazzled metal fans nationwide during the second half of 2021. The album has been lauded by Metal Temple for its “melody and power, two things displayed in a smashing way throughout this album” and led Metal Rules to call the group “one of the most interesting bands that have emerged in recent years on the international power metal scene.” Video clips for the title track, “Candlelight,” and “Phobia,” the latter of which featured a guest appearance by Angra guitarist Marcelo Barbosa, have captured the ears of heavy metal fans worldwide, while their videos for “Clocks,” “Lockdown” and “Read Between The Lines” have earned praise from the likes of MetalSucks, Metal Injection and Gear Gods. After making a splash via their 2018 full-length debut “Age of Revolution” – which featured its own fair share of creative music videos, including the “Armageddon”-meets-telenovela clip for “Stardust” – and through tours with the likes of Marty Friedman and Exmortus, IMMORTAL GUARDIAN gathered in Las Vegas at the beginning of 2020 to record their second album. As the spread of COVID-19 and the subsequent pandemic began to ensue, shutdowns around the world began being enforced, resulting in the band completely scrapping the record that they had been working on and writing and creating a new thematic record about their emotions surrounding current events. The resulting “Psychosomatic” was a truly multi-national record, with guitarist/keyboardist Gabriel Guardian – known for his uncanny ability to play the two instruments simultaneously – remaining in Las Vegas, singer Carlos Zema recording his vocals from his home in Brazil, drummer Justin Piedimonte tracking from Montreal and bassist Joshua Lopez recording from IMMORTAL GUARDIAN‘s native Texas.
