Out Now! Rockshots Records presents epic power metal with a twist of Greek Mythology from Montreal, Canada’s Walk With Titans, and their debut album “Olympian Dystopia”.

Efficient, epic, well executed, heavy, and mythical, this is what power metal fans will discover from 50 minutes of Walk With Titans’ first full-length “Olympian Dystopia” brought forth by Nikko Cyr (drums), Nick Maugy (rhythm guitar), Louis Jacques (lead guitar) (ex-Blackguard), Lydz Grondin (bass), and Jonathan Vézina (vocals & orchestrations). Greatly inspired by Greek mythology and the band’s perspectives on life, it’s a unique trait that will not leave you indifferent.

”We are stocked to have our album ‘Olympian Dystopia’ finally released. We couldn’t be happier about them sharing our songs. Our music has been described as if Stratovarius, Rhapsody of Fire, and Angra had a child. We’re very happy to bring ‘Olympian Dystopia to the world! Making it was quite a ride and we had so much fun, we hope fans will have as much fun listening to it!” adds guitarist Louis Jacques.

Walk With Titans is recommended for fans of Angra, Stratovarius, and Rhapsody of Fire.

GAMERRA’s “Tedium” Is Reminiscent Of Top Thrash Bands And Is One Of The Heaviest Releases Of The Year

Louisiana’s Gamerra is a good-time thrash band seeking the ultimate jam. Mixing in spicy doses of death metal and progressive metal, producing a sound akin to a fusion of Exodus and Death with the intense vocal patterns and delivery of Warbringer, the aggressive and experimental leanings of Revocation, the ferocious rhythm guitar tone of early Meshuggah, and the attitude and fun-loving vibes of Havok, all played in the spirit of old school Sepultura. These influences are honored in their latest album “Tedium”, which is their fifth release. They comment on the release:

“We’re really pumped to finally get this material out to the public and very relieved that it came out better than we hoped. We’ve had the songs demoed out for about a year and we got the art done for it way in advance. We hope everyone enjoys it. It’s a culmination of negative energy funneled into something productive. This in our eyes, created thrash which transcends the limitations of its subgenre. Our hope is that it will make people look at thrash in a new light.”

Over the years Gamerra has gotten a lot more intense and progressive musically and the vocal patterns and lyrics have gotten considerably more mature (not in content, but in quality). They quote that they are pretty far forward from the sound people heard in “Detached from Reality” (2019).

Through many lineup changes, Gamerra survives in the new decade. Despite consistently not having a drummer, and still lacking a bassist, Jacob Broussard, Jake Meche, and Reece Benoit persist on and will continue to write, record, and release music in the hopes of catching the ears of musicians that might be interested in playing with them.

Gamerra’s M.O. with this release was to make the heaviest thrash release they could muster, and they now present it for the fans to decide. It is recommended for listeners of Exodus, Death, and Revocation.

“Tedium” is out now as of May 26th, 2023, and available at the following links:

“Born from friendship and a love of commenting on the world around them, thrash metal band Gamerra is making a name for itself around Acadiana”… “Detached from Reality- available on iTunes- relies on observation of sociopolitical happenings and even touches on past events such as the Vietnam War.” – Miranda Davis from 008 Magazine (In February/March issue on page 81).

“Where does one start when talking about the mighty Gamerra? These Lafayette, Louisiana thrash metal inspired gents are young and they are dead set on blowing-I mean killing the Lafayette Metal Scene. Jacob Broussard, Reece Benoit, and [Jake] Meche are three highly talented musicians who have created a sound all their own.” – Moe Solet of Tales From the Riff

Jason Ashcraft (Helion Prime, Dire Peril) Teams Up w/ Stu Block (Into Eternity, ex-Iced Earth) For New Track “My Vengeance Is Everything”

Cover Art by Tullius Heuer

Guitarist Jason Ashcraft (Helion Prime, Dire Peril, Planeswalker, Of Romulus) has teamed up with Stu Block (Into Eternity, ex-Iced Earth) to breathe new life into a re-recording of a Dire Peril song released back in 2014 “My Vengeance Is Everything”. This song is the title track on a new two-song EP, which also features a cover of “Blood Upon the Snow” originally written by Bear McCreary for the God of War Ragnarok Soundtrack, fitting the God of War trilogy theme of the EP.

Jason Ashcraft comments:

“I was listening to the old Dire Peril EPs one evening as sometimes it’s nice to revisit the past and see how far you’ve come. While listening to them I was really digging into this song and thought to myself ‘You know there is still potential here and I bet with a new coat of paint it could really shine’. I knew there was one man I wanted to help me bring this back to life – Stu Block. He did such an amazing job on this song I’m excited for everyone to hear it!”

Also joining Jason Ashcraft on the recordings for the EP is drummer Alex Bosson (Helion Prime, Lunar), bassist Chelsea McMasters (ex-Dire Peril), guitarist Taylor Washington (Paladin), vocalists Heather Michele (ex-Helion Prime) and R.A. Voltaire (Ravenous E.H.) along with bassist Carlos Alvarez (Power Theory), guitarist Alon Mei-Tal, and Key Arrangements by Anthony Stahl.

Ashcraft continues: “I knew I wanted to do more with this release and really make it special. That’s why I decided to do a cover of “Blood Upon the Snow” and I love the way it turned out we all really made it our own. I brought Heather Michele on board for this one and she did such a great job. Even got a few words out of R.A. Voltaire (Ravenous E.H.) for this tune”.

Rockshots Records – Metal Duo KRASHKARMA New Music Video “Survive The Afterlife”

New Album “Falling To Pieces” Out June 2023

EU / USA Tour Dates

Los Angeles duo KRASHKARMA is unveiling their latest single “Survive The Afterlife” accompanied by a music video in support of their forthcoming album “Falling To Pieces” due out on June 23rd via Rockshots Records. The song is about whether heaven or hell really exists, or if they’re just inventions made by those who can benefit from them. The band explains the track further:

“These lyrics are about a fictional character who dies and enters the afterlife, only to be rejected by “heaven” and then sent to a place with all the sinners and whores. However, he was also rejected by this “hell” and returns to the living world. The message is that we are all human and no one is good enough to deserve heaven or bad enough to burn in hell. We all share the same fate and should focus on being the best version of ourselves here on Earth. The song touches on themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the search for meaning after death.”

Digital – https://bfan.link/survive-the-afterlife

KRASHKARMA can easily be described as one of metal’s most accomplished duos. With an impressive track record, which includes over 3 million views on their YouTube channel, over 100,000 followers on Facebook, and more than 600 shows performed around the globe, the band is ready to unveil new material with their 6th studio album entitled “Falling To Pieces”.

Looking behind the facts and figures, the band is one of the only few metal duos with a female drummer and vocalist, and a single guitarist/bassist. From behind the drum kit the energetic Niki Skistimas keeps the rhythm rock-tight as she delivers her seductively-charged vocals; meanwhile, guitarist/bassist and co-vocalist Ralf Dietel brings the material to life with his unique Frankenstein guitar/bass creation. Never before have two people created a sound so immense yet so vibrant.

For the new full-length, the duo wrote and recorded at Karma Kollective Studios in North Hollywood, California along with Ralf Dietel taking on producing, mixing, and mastering plus artwork duties. They are a self-producing duo that can be considered a jack of all trades when it comes to everything from creating to presenting their music.

A representation of the universal human experience, where the blending of differences creates something extraordinary, KRASHKARMA is intense, raw, dynamic, and electrifying. Featuring 12 tracks, “Falling To Pieces” is a story that will take fans on a journey from start to finish. From the thunderous drum intro and heart-wrenching scream pouring out of Niki Skistimas’ whole being, it sets the stage for what’s to come. From there, the album takes you on a wild ride, with ups and downs that will keep listeners’ ears excited to hear what’s next. KRASHKARMA has put a lot of effort into crafting a narrative that’s both compelling and epic, with each song building on the last to create a cohesive whole. Along the way, listeners will encounter soaring melodies, crushing riffs, and blistering solos over hammering grooves interplaying with the vocal harmonies between Niki and Ralf that KRASHKARMA is known for.

“Our fans will absolutely love our new album. It’s heavier and better than anything we’ve ever done before. We are confident that they will be blown away by it. There are all the elements that make our sound our own. Ralf really dove into utilizing every resource available to him to write the most creative riffs and bass lines possible on his prototype guitar/bass instrument, Ms. Frankenstein. We wanted the sound on the record to be as close to how we will play it live as possible and kept that in mind in the recording process. Our fans know we love a good melody and any opportunity to chant together, so there will be plenty of that as well. All the songs represent a significant moment in time for us and we’re excited to share them with the world.” adds drummer/vocalist Niki Skistimas.

Recommended for fans of Lacuna Coil, In Flames, and Stone Sour, KRASHKARMA‘s “Falling To Pieces” is out June 23, 2023, and is available for album pre-order at https://krashkarma.com/preorder.

ETHEREAL VOID Explore War, Suffering And Demise In “Gods of a Dead World” Streaming Now!

Behold Ethereal Void, a trinity of death metal musicians whose music emanates from the shadows of Ontario, Canada. Infused with groove and progressive elements, their rhythmic dirges speak of the void beyond time and space, a place of emptiness and desolation. Forged in that void, their music embodies the hopelessness of existence, reminding us of the futility of our struggles. Their third album “Gods of a Dead World” is now ready to be shown the light of day and they invite you to indulge in the album stream. They comment:

“This album is definitely our most consistent offering to date. We refined the sound both in writing and production while maintaining a unique angle for every song. The biggest stand-out is the introduction of orchestral elements to the sound. It feels like a long time coming, at least from my perspective. The album is much more refined musically as well. While we generally keep to the traditional EV themes, There is a constant-running sub-theme of the futility and violence of warfare.”

Throughout the album, Ethereal Void takes up through moments of tension, traditional death metal, instrumental interludes, relentless riffs, and anxious melodies. They cover bleak and harsh topics such as war, suicide, a dying planet, and the worship of entropy. The organic conjuring of the album is initially created by Terci Ruina creates, further embellished by Nemesis, and completed by “Voiicide” who also produced, mixed, and mastered it.

“Gods of a Dead World” is raw, visceral, and primitive. The groove-based death metal darkness within is recommended for fans of Gojira, Septic Flesh, and The Design Abstract.

Listen to it in full via its album stream premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Gods of a Dead World” is due out May 26, 2023, via Abstrakted Records.

““The Voiceless” is a rushing charge. It gets the listener’s pulse pumping because the song itself has such a mad pulse. Many of them actually, from the fast jolts in the fuzzed-out riffage to the die-stamp hammering of the snare and the jackhammer impact of the bass. And it does sound like a mad pulse, thanks to the swarms of frantic tremelo’ed fretwork, the relentless double-bass strafing, and the ugly ravenous growls. While the head-hooking energy of those assaulting ingredients never really lets go, the music does also move sideways. Eerie spectral tones ring out, creating an overlay of melancholy. The music even seems to elevate in wailing splendor, as a prelude to a sorcerous guitar solo that sounds both inviting and yearning, both enticing in its glimmering tones and downcast in its mood. Even the unhinged screams of the vocalist almost sound like singing (almost).” – No Clean Singing

“A compact and concise release, Gods of a Dead World comes in at around 26-minutes long and features a number of sharp and savage pieces of music. Kicking off with a frantic showcase of guitar screams and squeals, with the chunky familiarity of death metal heaviness, Overture to Annihilation gets in, smashes stuff up, and gets out.” – Games Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“or a Death Metal cut “Overture to Annihilation” is a real eye opener, blood soaked in cinematic orchestration and virtuoso lead guitars, the barked vocals having that story telling quality to them. That flows nicely into “The Voiceless“, which introduces the lyrical themes and creatures with Voiicide playing both victim and killer as vocals come from alternate angles with a vocal tweak. It works incredibly well, the riffs flowing freely with chugging aggression, the leads bright and vibrant against the darkness. The way the cuts have been put together has been well thought through, the segway into “Seeds of Hatred” barely noticeable as the flow continues like an orchestral piece but there is also enough of shift to identify the track as being separate.” – Metal Noise

Seattle-based Whythre’s new album “Impregnate My Hate” is about to be released on Friday, May 26th and before it officially drops, its full album stream is being premiered on Metal-Rules HERE.

Whether it’s writhing with wailing solos, slithering with sinuous synth lines, or awash with waves of riptide riffs, Whythre’s latest is without remorse. They came to lay waste and write solid album titles — and they’re all out of album titles. Consequently, “Impregnate My Hate” opens with the single “Scorchbreath”, an onslaught of solos, slamming breakdowns, subtle orchestration, and a sing-along chorus that embodies Whythre’s deft formulation of melodic death metal singed with a blackened edge.

Having been fixtures in the Seattle metal scene since 2016, band members Shon Petrey, Adam Chambers, Eric Close, and Steve Fournier know their way around both riff craft and laying down a tight performance. But Whythre’s latest expulsion of fury seethes like a band that’s only getting started, from the first violent lick to the final double-bass kick.

Follow along to standout tracks like “Immanence”, which thunders along with the certainty of slow death and offers little in the way of forgiveness, or to Scorpions of Sinai, which has a groove guaranteed to move any circle pit. The fury of Whythre’s writing is real, but fury is rarely this much fun: expect to get your ass kicked, and enjoy it.

When asked how they expect the album to be received by fans, Chambers replies that they just enjoy the creative process and evoking good memories, and are otherwise not concerned about how other people view it. Petrey expects that his mother will be just as, if not more disappointed with this one as previous efforts, Fournier suggests that fans will be surprised with their new material citing new blood in the band and a concise vision helped shape their most impressive record to date; and Close says that fans will be able to feel the energy from the album and that it will provide an electrifying experience for them.

For those who have the privilege of seeing Whythre play live, at the conclusion of their performance they will either hear the Mortal Kombat voice in their heads saying ‘FLAWLESS VICTORY’ or feel relief that they chose to shelter in the bathroom during their set.

The album was produced and mixed by Shon Petrey, it was mastered by Levi Seitz at Black Belt Recordings, the album artwork was done by Andrzej Masianis and the graphic design was done by Ryan Ricketts.

Recommended for fans of Children of Bodom, Hypocrisy, and Hans Zimmer, “Impregnate My Hate” is due out on May 26th, 2023 via High Point Records and is available for pre-order at https://whythre.bandcamp.com.

“The album as a whole is a hell of a twisting and turning trip, which might appeal especially to fans of Hypocrisy and Children of Bodom. You’ll get another taste of the album in its first single, “Scorchbreath“, which features backing vocals by Gabe Tachell (Whythre‘s first vocalist) and Carolina Chambers.” – No Clean Singing

“There is no mistaking that with this new album Whythe sound rejuvenated, the new rhythm section as precise and destructive as a laser guided missile. As a listener, opening cut “Scorchbreath” is exactly what you want. Punchy and aggressive, crossing sub-genre territories with death defying leaps with an onslaught of Thrash infused riffage, short and violent bursts of Black Metal inspired blast beats, gang chant moments in the chorus and the odd ethereal touch a real demonstration of prowess. That’s before we’ve mentioned the twin axe attack of the extended solo which will melt your face off… before the kick in the guts that is the title track “Impregnate My Hate“.” – Metal Noise

ROCKIN’ ENGINE’s Video For “Monsters Under Your Bed” Will Give You Reason To Stay Awake At Night

New EP “Altered By Evil” Out July 2023

Pedal to the floor, motor running high! That’s how Ottawa, Canada’s Rockin’ Engine rolls – full throttle, no compromise. Officially formed in 2018, they released their first self-produced album “Midnight Road Rage”, which caught the attention of many hard rock and heavy metal enthusiasts throughout Europe and America. Switching things into high gear for 2023, Rockin’ Engine produced their very anticipated new EP “Altered By Evil” inspired by 80’s psycho horror, ready to be released this summer. Each track is chock full of high-octane riffs, thunderous drums, and catchy vocals that deliver chilling lyrics with power and finesse. The first single accompanied by a high-production video is “Monsters Under Your Bed”, which tells the story of a woman haunted by her past. The band comments:

“The video for this song was a very challenging project. Musically, we wanted people to hear the evolution in our style, without being too drastic in our change. Gojira was a huge inspiration in the writing process of the music, with a rhythmic introduction and heart-pounding riffs, to melodic choruses that keep playing in your head over and over again. The main inspiration for the lyrics was the storyline of Wes Craven’s Nightmare On Elm Street. So visually, we wanted to recreate our own version of certain scenes in the movie and make the cinematic experience as big as possible.

With elaborate set design and props and hours of labour, Rockin’ Engine has succeeded in making a music video that is as entertaining and dramatic as the music they make. This is only the beginning of their cinematic adventure and they are looking forward to making more detailed videos in the future.

“Altered By Evil” is intended for horror fans and rockers alike. Those brave enough to dive into the darkness will be brought into a psycho-horror fantasy, where Wes Craven meets Stanley Kubrick, where Ramirez meets Bundy, where “Tubular Bells” meets “Dies Irae”. The various subtle influences and nuances gathered in this work will please any hardcore horror movie fanatic, but also anyone who can plunge themselves into an imaginary world of monsters and evil spirits. The EP is recommended for fans of Megadeth, Slayer, and Lamb of God.

Watch and listen to “Monsters Under Your Bed” via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

“Altered By Evil” is due out on July 7, 2023.

Canada’s ORCHID’S CURSE Contrast Melodic Death Metal And Thrash Metal In New Single “Dead Idols”

New EP “The Decay” Out June 2023

L-R = Alex Wrathell (Drums), Brian Jones (Guitar), Keith MacLeod (Guitar), Jason Szeto (Bass), Josh Hogan (Vocals)

Since forming in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in late 2005, Orchid’s Curse has positioned itself at the forefront of the highly underrated East Coast metal scene in Canada. They ensure that every show leaves them drained of all they had and every album is created with the most care and the best team they can find. This determination and attention to detail is what makes their new EP “The Decay” a melodic death album you’ll definitely want in your rotation. The second single is “Dead Idols”, which the band details:

“Unlike the opening track, “Better Men”, this song gets right into it from the opening note. It is a four-minute melodic death and thrash-inspired banger. Lyrically this song explores society’s idolizations of people who may not deserve the adoration.”

Juxtaposed against the atmospheric opener and the sludgy and experimental track that follows, “Dead Idols” is yet another display of varied influences brought together seamlessly with care and dedication. In the early days, the band had more of a standard, mid-2000s metalcore sound. With each new release, the band has continued to progress and refine its sound. With “The Decay”, Orchid’s Curse continues this trend incorporating a multitude of sounds and influences across the heavy metal spectrum and beyond.

Over the course of their career, Orchid’s Curse has performed and toured with some of their favourite bands including 3 Inches of Blood and Goatwhore. Their ferocious passion is remarkable and no one should sleep on a chance to see them live. They are especially recommended for fans of The Black Dahlia Murder, Burnt By The Sun, and Darkest Hour.

Listen to “Dead Idols” via its premiere on NoCleanSinging HERE.

“The Decay” is due out June 16, 2023.

About: With over a decade of musical output, Orchid’s Curse continues to create a beautiful amalgamation of brutal metal, progressive melody, and intelligent thought-provoking lyrics. Whether in a live setting or on an album, Orchid’s Curse refuses stagnation and orders your full attention.

Since forming in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in late 2005, Orchid’s Curse has positioned itself at the forefront of the highly underrated East Coast metal scene in Canada. Ensuring that every show left the band drained of all they had and every album was created with the most care and the best team they could find. Now with their sixth release “The Decay” ready to release, the band continues to position itself at the forefront of maritime metal.

Metalsucks.net captured the band’s goal of blending various genres of metal, declaring “Orchid’s Curse is one of those bands that play around with melodeath, groove, thrash, and occasionally prog with enough fluidity to rid themselves of any sort of pesky sub-genre tags and earn the simple, yet elegant classification of ‘metal’.” while Canada’s Hellbound.ca recognized the bands continued progression and growth over the years stating, “Few bands demand that each album be a progression, a growth, in the way that Orchid’s Curse does. No musical influence is turned away, but everything is twisted, melded into an intense metal experience that makes your head bang one moment and your toes tap the next”

Since 2006 Orchid’s Curse has shared the stage with an incredibly diverse lineup of bands including, The Black Dahlia Murder, Children of Bodom, Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, 3 Inches of Blood, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Fuck the Facts, KEN Mode, Misery Index, Counterparts, Baptized in Blood, Martyr, Beneath the Massacre, Vilipend, Ion Dissonance, Neuraxis, L’Espirit du Clan, Unexpect, Trigger Effect, Ninjaspy, Unbreakable Hatred, Misguided Aggression, Greber and many more.

“Orchid’s Curse employ their familiar tactic of borrowing the techniques of multiple genres, from filthy death metal riffs to hardcore barks, progressive guitar explorations and dirge-like, doom-influenced song structures.” – Exclaim!

“Thick, brutal, aggressive and borderline cacophonous, at times, Voices is relentlessly engaging and explosive while maintaining a decisively melodic essence.” – Exclaim!

“heavy riffs built for headbanging” – Metal Storm

“Cynics & Liars, is very much an EP which epitomizes everything good about metal in 2016” – PureGrainAudio / V13

“Orchid’s Curse are versatile, able to play everything from menacing thrash to accessible melodeath to punishing metal” – HeavyMetal.About.com

“Every song punches you right between the eyes” – Mettalworx

“This album is just laced with hook after hook. Whether it be a classic metal riff, a psyched out interval or just a standard heavy rock n’ roll beat; the album is catchier than an STD on 2-for-1 night at a brothel.” – Echoes and Dust

Extreme Metal Music – Venice’s MEMBRANCE Pay Tribute To Lost Sailors In New Music Video “Marubio”

New Album “Undead Island” Out June 2023

Italian death metallers Membrance are unleashing their second second single “Marubio” accompanied by a new music video to support the release of their new album “Undead Island” due out on June 23 2023 via Extreme Metal Music, a subsidiary of Rockshots Records.

“Here in Venice, we say Marubio when there is bad weather coming, the sky darkens, the wind rises, and you can hear the thunder from the darkest clouds grouping overhead. It often comes from the sea. Anyone who doesn’t pay attention to the marubio risks a very bad time or worse. The folklore of the dead at sea or in the lagoon is the oldest and most are handed down to the generations so that we can remember, and with this song, we want to sing a tribute to the most heartfelt among sailors and Venetians.” adds the band.

“Undead Island” is the materialization and the channeling of all the ideas and energies expressed so far by Membrance in a unique and well-defined tangible direction. The band has partly abandoned the death n roll influences to give more space to inject black metal and has limited the progressive digressions to have more direct and compact tracks. The lyrical path of the full length is influenced by everyday life, dealing with themes not only of the band’s personal ones but also sometimes not discussed in metal music in general.

With these premises, the band is absolutely sure that their fans will appreciate this work more than its predecessors, and Membrance is equally sure that with this album they will push messages in equal measure to what they have always pushed mainly with the music.

The band adds:

“We want to offer an experience of deep anger, like being able to identify with an innocent prisoner kicking and screaming behind steel bars. We want to bring to the mind of anyone who listens to us the auspicious lagoon folklore that is fading away and to recall the times of a Serenissima that made us proud of our city but which is now almost forgotten. With this record, we want to convey our frustration and anger in our impotence and make people feel all the strength and energy we still have to fight, scream and cling tooth and nail to what we have left of our memories so as not to lose it permanently.”

Membrance was born in Venice in 2012 from the mind of founding member Davide Lazzarini as a Death Metal and Black Metal crossover project, it wasn’t until 2014 and onwards, after several line-up changes, that the group stabilized in old-school Death Metal with blues/rock n’ roll influences, which was reinforced by the entry of lead guitarist Pietro Battiston.

After an intense period of live activity in the underground and various demo recordings, in 2017 Giovanni De Fraja joined as the drummer and Membrance decided to work more seriously on their own music. They immediately recorded and produced their own debut album “Abyss”, initially released independently it was quickly picked up by the Ukrainian label Envenomed Music.

Thanks to this first release, the group received a fair amount of approval in the Italian and European underground scene, and we’re contacted to play at Metaldays of Tolmin 2018 in Slovenia, along with the Winterdays of Metal of the same year, plus asked to be opening support for various international bands on tour in Italy such as Marduk, Brujeria, and Necrodeath.

These successes pushed the group to collaborate again with Envenomed Music and with the support of Narcoleptica Productions, Membrance produced their second studio album “Morality’s Collapse”, which was released at the beginning of 2019 with the sound evolution of 16th Cellar Studio in Rome (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Hideous Divinity, Hour of Penance), starting a path towards the Swedish old school Death sound “HM2 style”.

However, with the arrival of the Covid pandemic, despite growing approval and greater support for the international live scene such as Entombed A.D., Cripple Bastards, and Benediction, after 5 years of activity, Pietro decided to abandon the group leaving to Gregorio, the rhythmic player who just recently entered the group, the task of replacing him.

Giacomo Rusconi also entered the band as the second guitarist, the group embarked on a path of musical evolution in the following years in which it abandoned the blues influences to embrace a more black metal style and worked on texts in Venetian dialect along with lyrical influences inspired by the lagoon folklore.

During the summer of 2022, the recordings of the third studio work “Undead Island” were concluded with the support of the AudioCore Studio, which further develops the sound path started on the basis of the Swedish HM2 sound.

“Undead Island” is due out June 23, 2023.

Phaeton has been a noticeable force in the underground Canadian progressive metal scene since their debut self-titled album in 2018. The band has amassed a dedicated following for their instrumental attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar. They recently released their second album “Between Two Worlds” and now fans can dig into the technical goodness with a playthrough video for the track “Terra Australis”. Bassist Ferdy Belland comments:

“The intro to this one always kills me, what with Kevin’s weird jazz chords trading off against the crunch chords and the tapping, and then the groove sets in the lead guitar gets to work. When the complicated melodies really get revving up, you can almost hear the tortured squeak of our helpless tendons as we desperately crawl our fretting fingers across the fretboard in pretzel patterns. There’s a slight reprieve where we bring it down and present you with another hummable melody, and then things just start getting ridiculous again and it’s Phull On Phaeton.”

The members of Phaeton are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence intrigued us conceptually. This is reflected in their dramatic music which emerges from the void in thrilling bursts and unexpected turns.

Interplanetary instrumental heavy prog metal awaits with “Terra Australis”, which is recommended for fans of Gojira, Meshuggah, and Mastodon.

Watch and listen to “Terra Australis” via its premiere on Technical Music Review HERE.

“Between Two Worlds” was released on April 21st, 2023, and is available at Phaetonband.bandcamp.com, Spotify.

About: PHAETON was formed in Kimberley, BC in March 2017 by Kevin Thiessen (lead & rhythm guitar), Daniel Airth (lead & rhythm guitar), Colin Righton (drums & percussion), and Ferdy Belland (electric & fretless bass). Combining technically ferocious compositions of modern metal with the ambitious song-arrangement mindset of classic prog-rock, PHAETON (named for the theoretical proto-planet which collided with Ancient Earth during the Primordial Era) stands alone in the wilderness of British Columbia with their unique approach to instrumental prog-metal.

“It’s Prog Mag’s brand new Tracks Of The Week! (April 21, 2023) – “Hailing from Columbia, Canada’s Phaeton are an interplanetary instrumental heavy prog metal quartet and as their name suggests, they are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence. The epic Between Two Worlds is the title track of the band’s latest album.”

“Phaeton are relatively unknown, especially compared to the above mentioned bands (scale The Summit, Animals as Leaders), but they definitely hold their own on Between Two Worlds. All members absolutely kill it on their instruments, the songs are wonderfully arranged and produced, and there’s plenty of variety here to hold our attention. Instrumental prog might be a little talked about genre, but Phaeton belong in the conversation.” – Havvy Music Headquarters

“All metal influences flow into the respective songs and riffs and power chords are widely spread. The sound of the opener “Predestination” is very reminiscent of GHOST.” – Hellfire Magazin

“”Between Two World” was very competently arranged and recorded by PHAETON. Prog fans, who like sounds and virtuosity above all, will be well served with the disc.” – PowerMetal.de

“If you’re open minded in your choice of Metal genres, you should feel free to let this instrumental work slip through your ears. It takes a little getting used to, so completely without singing. But if you get involved and listen carefully, one or the other will surely like something. The whole thing should appeal to fans of RUSH or DREAM THEATER.” – Hellfire Magazine

“Top-tier instrumental prog-metal-math music from the East Kootenay region performed by a quartet of veteran musicians.” – Stuart Derdeyn (The Vancouver Sun)
