ORCHID’S CURSE Now Streaming Varied New Melodic Metal EP “The Decay”

L-R = Alex Wrathell (Drums), Brian Jones (Guitar), Keith MacLeod (Guitar), Jason Szeto (Bass), Josh Hogan (Vocals)

Orchid’s Curse formed way back in 2005 with their first release in 2006. 18 years have passed and they have withstood the test of time. Whether persevering through member changes or a pandemic, the band continues to push forward and release new music. “The Decay” is their sixth release and will highlight that the band has no plans to stop creating music any time soon.

Musically, “The Decay” is their most mature work yet, consisting of five songs with a variety of different musical influences but also still having the Orchid’s Curse signature sound. Listeners will experience a two-minute thrash banger, a six-minute melodic epic, and everything in between with lyrics that explore the decline and decay of our modern society. The band shares their excitement:

“We are elated to finally be releasing THE DECAY to the masses. Writing for this album started before the pandemic and we are glad the time to release it is finally here. One positive is that with the shutdowns we had a lot of extra time to spend refining these songs to ensure it was the most mature and competent release to date. With each new album we always try to continue to progress and up the ante musically and artistically. We all feel really confident in these songs and this release as a whole.”

They say variety is the slice of life and Orchid’s Curse delivers exactly that. This succinct journey runs the gamut from slow and sludgy to fast and relentless. The EP was produced by the band’s rhythm guitarist, Brian Jones; mixed and mastered by Mike Bowers (Pale Ache), and the EP artwork was done by lead guitarist, Keith MacLeod.

With something for everyone, “The Decay” will be enjoyed by a wide range of metalheads, including those into Darkest Hour, At the Gates, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

“The Decay” is due out Friday, June 16, 2023, and can be heard ahead of its release via its full stream premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

About: With over a decade of musical output, Orchid’s Curse continues to create a beautiful amalgamation of brutal metal, progressive melody, and intelligent thought-provoking lyrics. Whether in a live setting or on an album, Orchid’s Curse refuses stagnation and orders your full attention.

Since forming in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in late 2005, Orchid’s Curse has positioned itself at the forefront of the highly underrated East Coast metal scene in Canada. Ensuring that every show left the band drained of all they had and every album was created with the most care and the best team they could find. Now with their sixth release “The Decay” ready to release, the band continues to position itself at the forefront of maritime metal.

Metalsucks.net captured the band’s goal of blending various genres of metal, declaring “Orchid’s Curse is one of those bands that play around with melodeath, groove, thrash, and occasionally prog with enough fluidity to rid themselves of any sort of pesky sub-genre tags and earn the simple, yet elegant classification of ‘metal’.” while Canada’s Hellbound.ca recognized the bands continued progression and growth over the years stating, “Few bands demand that each album be a progression, a growth, in the way that Orchid’s Curse does. No musical influence is turned away, but everything is twisted, melded into an intense metal experience that makes your head bang one moment and your toes tap the next”

Since 2006 Orchid’s Curse has shared the stage with an incredibly diverse lineup of bands including, The Black Dahlia Murder, Children of Bodom, Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, 3 Inches of Blood, Goatwhore, Exhumed, Fuck the Facts, KEN Mode, Misery Index, Counterparts, Baptized in Blood, Martyr, Beneath the Massacre, Vilipend, Ion Dissonance, Neuraxis, L’Espirit du Clan, Unexpect, Trigger Effect, Ninjaspy, Unbreakable Hatred, Misguided Aggression, Greber and many more.

“Orchid’s Curse employ their familiar tactic of borrowing the techniques of multiple genres, from filthy death metal riffs to hardcore barks, progressive guitar explorations and dirge-like, doom-influenced song structures.” – Exclaim!

“Thick, brutal, aggressive and borderline cacophonous, at times, Voices is relentlessly engaging and explosive while maintaining a decisively melodic essence.” – Exclaim!

“heavy riffs built for headbanging” – Metal Storm

“Cynics & Liars, is very much an EP which epitomizes everything good about metal in 2016” – PureGrainAudio / V13

ROCKIN’ ENGINE’s Sharpens Their Axes With “Room 185” ft. Stef Jomphe (Insurrection)

New EP “Altered By Evil” Out July 2023

Here’s Johnny! Not quite, but Ottawa, Canada’s Rockin’ Engine pays tribute to the classic film with their latest single “Room 185” featuring guest vocals from Stef Jomphe (Insurrection) off their upcoming third studio recording “Altered By Evil”. Besides playing high-energy rock complemented with screaming guitar solos, the quartet is also all horror fanatics and it was only a matter of time before they started writing a horror concept EP. While trying not to replicate what’s already out there, vocalist Steve O Leff started writing lyrics inspired by certain details in his favourite movies. He comments on how this single came to be:

“Jack Torrance, the character played by Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, has to be my favourite horror movie character of all time. That performance is what made me addicted to horror movies. I wanted to write a song about this movie as an homage to this masterpiece. When we started to work together on this song, we soon realized that this would be our heaviest composition to date, and we needed someone to help us express this emotion in order to be satisfied with our work. After doing some research, we approached Insurrection’s lead vocalist Stef Jomphe in an attempt to have his voice on the track, just to make it that much better! We were absolutely honoured and excited when he accepted the project and headed straight to the studio. This song hits you in a way that you have no choice but to headbang!”

Leff says that he always does a lot of research before writing to get the stories straight, and he was quite surprised with the depth of knowledge and historical facts that are put into these inspiring motion pictures. At some point, their musical composition is inspired by the lyrics, and the lyrics are inspired by the music. For them, it’s a really fun writing process and it’s a recipe they intend to use for future musical projects.

Heavy, punchy, and charismatic, “Altered By Evil” is by far their best work yet, and look forward to raising Hell wherever they set foot. If Gojira, Lamb Of God, and Rob Zombie made a baby, Rockin’ Engine would be their bastard son. Their fusion of hard rock and thrash metal will set fire to any stage and leave everyone with a bad case of whiplash.

Hardball Puts A New Spin On Grunge With Hardcore/Punk Infused S/T Debut And Single “Worried As Shit”

Self-Titled Album Out July 21st + Western Canadian Tour Dates

Canada’s Hardball has emerged from the rainy coast of Vancouver, BC to bring you a raw and erratic punk/grunge self-titled debut album. Vocalist/guitarist Scott Budgie channels distressed and agitated emotions into the writing, while drummer Jeremy Head and bassist Jamie Black amplify those feelings of utter frustration, confusion, and absurdity into an energetic and aggressive grunge sound that is permeated by punk and hardcore influences. Their debut single “Worried As Shit” is the perfect introduction to the trio, they comment:

“It’s a perfect initiation to Hardball, it’s an abrupt punk song carried by a rock beat, with vocals coming from a place of confusion and self-deprecation (in typical HARDBALL fashion). It also has a cool recurring noodly riff that crushes and a sudden clean bridge was thrown in to keep the extreme dynamic range thing happening.”

While this is not nostalgic grunge, Hardball has created something innovative and contemporary while still honouring their heroes from the ‘90s alternative rock and ‘80s punk scenes. They’re having their cake and eating it too, and are offering you a slice.

In support of the album, Hardball is setting out on tour this August with appearances throughout Western Canada. Full tour dates are to be announced soon, and those in the audience can expect a wild time. Fists will be raised, things will be knocked over, and a good time will be had by all.

Turbulent and chaotic, Hardball delivers an enjoyable new album through drums going completely ape all over the place, obnoxious riffing and big low-tuned power chords, and heavily distorted bass guitar. They are recommended for fans of Nirvana, Wipers, and Hüsker Dü.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “Worried As Shit” via its premiere AllAboutTheRock HERE.

HOOKER SPIT Aggressive Death Metal Meets Dangerous Rhetoric In “White Lighter”

Canadian Tour Dates w/ Raising The Ruins, Augurium + Loud As Hell Fest, Grover Fest, CEMR Fest

Debut Album “Krötch Splitter” Out July 2023

Gearing up to release their debut album, Red Deer, AB’s Hooker Spit are staying true to the death metal icons that inspire them while forging their own path in the genre. Filled with heavy chunky riffs, guttural vocals, and destructive drum grooves, they have developed a sonic quality and episodic visual concept that is so unique to them, it can be immediately recognized as their own. The seven-track album “Krötch Splitter” is an appetizing sampler of what the band is all about, and will attract fans across the death metal spectrum from the classics to the modern. The second single “White Lighter” leans more towards the latter, as the band explains:

“This is by far our most chaotic song, it embodies American death metal such as Lamb of God and Dethklok. It expresses the contrast between the rhetoric and the reality of organized religion. Although well-intentioned on the surface, religion has left many negative impacts on society in its wake. Collectively as a society, we are still trying to heal a lot of trauma caused by modern religion. “White Lighter” expresses a motion to leave religion in the past or we will continue to suffer the same damages in the future, due to the greed and manipulation of those considered to be representatives of a benevolent God.”

Listen to “White Lighter” via its premiere on Ghost Cult Magazine HERE.

Hooker Spit cites that they are still discovering our sound but feel that they are gravitating towards something they are already very happy with. They try to infuse groove into death metal while also presenting something with a little bit of thrash. The sound will continue to evolve over time as all bands do, and aim to stay consistent in creating something unique to them.

In a collaborative effort, guitarist Vlad Gligor creates the core riffs of the songs. After that, the initial rough draft is formed into what will be the final version of the music, adding harmonies, melodies, rhythmic bass lines, and slamming drums. Finally, vocalist Dan White creates a vocal melody and lyrical content.

Groovy and interesting, Hooker Spit puts a creative spin on the expected death metal formula. Their music is recommended for fans of Lamb of God, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Blood Bath.

“Krötch Splitter” is due out July 28th, 2023, and available for album pre-order at https://hookerspitofficial.bandcamp.com.

0 Venezuelan Atmospheric Death Doom STRATUZ Find Refuge w/ New Lyric Video “Left” Off New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Venezuelan Atmospheric Death Doom STRATUZ Find Refuge w/ New Lyric Video “Left”

New Album “Osculum Pacis” Out Now!

L-R – Franklin Berroteran (Vocals, Keyboard), Geronimo Egea (Guitar), Leonardo Rangel (Baa), Diego Cabrujas (Drums)

Venezuelan atmospheric death/doom Stratuz unleashed their latest album “Osculum Pacis” in April 2022, which marked their return since going on hiatus in 2006 and reforming in 2019. The album is an immersion into the band’s own universe of sound, which will lead you to listen to each of the themes repeatedly and thus discover each sound layer and the sensations to awaken you.

“So many years away from the scene led us to experiment with other musical currents and the studio, which allowed us to nourish ourselves and thus reach the level we are at now. This record we hope will awaken your senses with its eleven tracks that ebb and flow through dreary gutturals, majestic choruses, and heart-pumping riffs.” says the band.

Lyrically, “Osculum Pacis” speaks of the abuses of the church and its deafening silence in the face of so many denunciations of abuse. It speaks of the manipulation of the masses, and injustice, but at the same time, it also speaks of the awakening of consciousness, of death as a process of transformation, and the need to change ourselves in order to rise up and banish our own miseries. It speaks of rising up aware of who we are.

Today, Stratuz shares their latest lyric video for the track “Left”, a song that reflects the emptiness that many people feel internally.

“This is one for those who know that feeling of abandonment, loneliness, neglect, and that lack of sense for being on this plane, taking refuge in their own sorrow.” adds the band.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “Left” via its premiere on Doomed and Stoned HERE.

The band is currently preparing to continue promoting their latest album “Osculum Pacis” in Venezuela and other countries along with working on new material to follow in the near future.

“For those of you who have already heard our current work Osculum Pacis, you will have high expectations with the new stuff we will produce, however, we are convinced that we will surprise many again and it will be very well received.”

Stratuz live transmits a much more powerful energy than on recordings, and there are always comments that the band sounds much better in concert than on recordings, and this is because of the particular energy that can be appreciated in the shows. They are recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Tiamat, and Moonspell.

The album “Osculum Pacis” was released on April 26, 2022, and is available on CD / Digital on Stratuzofficial.bandcamp.com, and Spotify.

OUR DYING WORLD Put A Cinematic Spin On Melodic Death Metal With “The Egregious Sins Of Humanity”

Los Angeles’ Our Dying World is geared up to unleash a furious new single “The Egregious Sins Of Humanity”, which comes on the heels of two punishing records “Hymns Of Blinding Darkness” (2022) and “Expedition” (2019). Initially, they focused on the death and thrash metal subgenres but are now moving into the cinematic and symphonic realms. With this new offering, they are looking to give the audience a bridge between the fast and insane side of metal, to the clever and meticulously crafted end of the classical and orchestral spectrum. This new single is deadly fast, with drums clocking in at 225 BPM and the guitars falling in line culminating in a dark sound that will catch the ears of discerning metalheads everywhere. The band comments:

“We’re taking what so many icons have given us through the generations and we’re doing our best to blend them in a tasteful and fun way that inspires and creates that feeling that raises the hair on your arms. We think the fans are going to enjoy the change in sound. We’ve always strived to take our sound to the next level and with the amount of diversity between the full band versions of the single and the orchestral version, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy.”

“The Egregious Sins Of Humanity” marks the next phase in the band’s development. It shows another level of musical maturity and has pushed each member to create more sophisticated parts and make them work together. Those who are drawn into what Our Dying World has created won’t have long to wait for more intense melodic death metal as the band has two more singles in production.

The band all love dark, melodic death metal, and most of them enjoy the symphonic black metal that they’re slowly creeping towards. There’s a bit of thrash and deathcore in some of the riffs they create, but they love the moody, melodic, and symphonic elements that stay with some of the most dramatic styles in metal. Their music is recommended for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle Of Filth, and Children Of Bodom.

About: Over the last few years, Los Angeles’s Our Dying World has gone through a tremendous evolution of sound from the thrashy death metal of their debut EP Expedition to the symphonic and melodic keyboard-oriented stylings of bands like Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, and Dimmu Borgir.

Formed in 2018 by drummer/guitarist Tom Tierney (ex-Whiplash), the group has played shows all over the USA in their short time together, bringing their sound from the fabled Sunset Strip in Hollywood to the New Jersey Metalfest where they opened for Metal Mike of Halford.

One thing is clear from the young band as they prepare for the release of their new 2023 single “The Egregious Sins Of Humanity” to follow their highly praised sophomore album “Hymns Of Blinding Darkness ” they’ve come to stir the standards that hold the metal scene and redefine them.

Shared Stage with Abysmal Dawn, Abigail Williams, Swallow The Sun, Thrown Into Exile, Metal Mike of Halford.

“We’ll make you a solemn promise: Whatever condition you happen to be in now (unless you’re in a coma), the song and video we’re about to present will make you feel orders of magnitude more alive, accelerating your heart-rate, igniting your fast-twitch muscles, and spinning your head like a glorious top. And for those of you who want your music to attack like a pack of rabid dogs, it fills that need, too. The song is “Veil of the Reaper“, and it comes from Hymns Of Blinding Darkness, the forthcoming album by the Los Angeles band Our Dying World. The new album marks a significant departure from the music on their debut, Expedition, moving in directions that may spawn memories of such bands as Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, and Dimmu Borgir, and you’ll get a vivid understanding of that when you hear “Veil of the Reaper“.” – No Clean Singing

Rimouski’s Quebec’s Vortex is now streaming its third epic concept album set to aggressive and beautiful orchestral melodic death metal with hints of black metal. Each song in “The Future Remains In Oblivion” is one chapter in their well-written sci-fi tale and there is a build-up in intensity and emotion that goes along with the storyline and the lyrics as you traverse the album. They share their thoughts:

“This is an orchestral death metal album with plenty of heavy riffing and melodies, technical vocals, and epic soloing. Some of the songs are riff-oriented and some others had the orchestra and melodies written before the drums and the guitars. We wrote all the lyrics before the music to make sure that it would fit the feel and emotion of each song/part of the story. When we start writing a song, we know exactly what feeling and emotion we are aiming at, it’s a good way to push ourselves creatively and write thoughtful music.”

Those familiar with the previous albums will note that they were more on the ambient/dramatic side. The new album’s songs are still melodic/orchestral but much more aggressive and some of them have a black metal influence. Vortex’s goal was to create songs that would have a greater impact on their live shows, and these aggressive songs will work well live. They feel the album is a good combination of aggression/melody, and ugliness/beauty.

Creativity and storytelling are the key tenets of Vortex. Their masterful lyric writing is equally matched with their prowess in devising riffs, and orchestrations. They will transport the listener into a new world and are recommended for fans of Lorna Shore, Dimmu Borgir, and Fleshgod Apocalypse.

“The Future Remains In Oblivion” is now available as of June 9th, 2023.

“The song’s (The Walls) multi-faceted nature is further revealed in harrowing and haughty growls, jolting chords, and fiery sunbursts of sound, as well as through a swirling melodic guitar solo that spectacularly sends the song into the stratosphere. The song’s finale is itself a full-power spectacle that really gets the adrenaline surging.” – No Clean Singing

“For some music is pure escapism but does that still hold true when bands like Canadian Melodic Death Metal monster Vortex whisk the would be listener into a bleak world that is recovering from a devastating cataclysm? Scenes of war and survival are punctuated with harrowing strings, technical riffs, and guttural and Black Metal inspired vocals as the band weave cinematic stories and orchestral touches into their third concept album “The Future Remains In Oblivion”” – Metal Noise

“An excellent group that you must discover because of the intensity they are able to show” – Ondes Chocs

“The breakdowns are huge in places. There are big moments where the influences pour through, but are blended with giant choral arrangements and symphonics. It’s absolutely like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. I love the melodies, the harmonics, and the guitar solos. This is absolutely an album which ought to be part of your listening rotation this month. I was genuinely impressed with quite a bit of the entire album. I think that when you look at this album, the absolute banger of the title tack is 100% worth several spins with the blackened guitar riffs and tremendous choral arrangements.” – Metal Epidemic

“The songs you’ll find on this upcoming release are aggressive, but Vortex also has a strong melodic approach and lots of orchestrations combined with guttural, black metal vocals and diverse guitar playing that alternates between howling snippets and beautiful, emotional riffs. Recommended for fans of Shadow of Intent, Septicflesh, and Dimmu Borgir.” – RTMB Music

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 8, 2023

TALIA HOIT Releases Emotional New Symphonic Music Video “Angel”

Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. She was classically trained at a young age and now she writes songs and various symphonic metal compositions. She has contributed to bands for the last two decades and also has a collection of solo works. Collaborating with a talented group of producers and musicians, the songstress is sharing her latest music video for her single “Angel”.

With this recording and everything that Talia Hoit does, her main goal is for the listener to feel the song and the emotion behind the lyrics, and what the song is about.

“I am striving for really great production quality so that it’s enjoyable to listen to and so that the song itself is communicated in a way people can resonate with,” says Hoit.

Working with producer Jarek Musil, Talia Hoit‘s “Angel” is a symphonic rock ballad that truly touches the heart of all who hear it. About the loss of someone who died way too soon in life that was personally close to Hoit. She explains further:

“This is a very special song to me personally and I hope it will resonate with everyone. I wrote it just as an attempt to process my own feelings after I had experienced the loss of my childhood friend from a rare and aggressive cancer, and then over time and after experiencing more losses in my life, the song has become a really emotional expression of my heart and soul, and I hope that it will be moving to a lot of other people too.”

Originally released as just a SoundCloud stream, “Angel” will be officially released on June 9, 2023, on all platforms and before it drops, its music video can be seen and heard via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

Fans can expect a lot more music coming from Talia in the future, she has many songs that she looks forward to releasing in the future. Dark, introspective, and metaphorical, Talia’s symphonic metal gives new life to the genre. It is recommended for those who enjoy Nightwish, Within Temptation, and Evanescence.

About: Talia Hoit is an American singer-songwriter from Colorado. Classically trained, she begin playing the piano at the age of 5. Now she writes original songs, performs on vocals and keyboards, and composes orchestra scores for symphonic metal.

She was the keyboardist and a co-songwriter for the hard rock band Anadies for 5 years, releasing an album, Formamentum (2004), and an EP, Catalyst (2006), before branching out to write her own solo songs and sing classical music. She performed as a Soprano with the Colorado Springs Chorale for 10 years, and as the Chamber Singers of the Colorado Springs Chorale for 5 years. As a solo artist, she wrote and independently recorded two original albums of songs, Fate’s Too Small (2007) and A Little Longer (2012) which had a limited physical cd release only.

In 2014, she recorded ambient vocal backing tracks as a guest musician for a symphonic power metal band, Psycodrama. After this studio experience, she decided to pursue her passion for singing symphonic metal. That same year, she joined the band Beyond Forgiveness and is currently the lead singer, orchestral composer, co-lyricist, and co-songwriter for the band. They have released an EP: The Ferryman’s Shore (2015), two albums: The Great Wall (2017) and Live to Tell the Story (2019), and are currently in the studio working on their third full-length album, Cold as Winter’s Ice.

In the fall of 2019, she worked with producer Jarek Musil to record a single, Angel, for personal purposes, which had a soft release in early 2020 on Soundcloud only. Since the Covid pandemic, she has been working remotely with a talented group of producers and musicians to bring more of her most personal and intimate solo songs to life.

In November 2022, she released a single and music video for the song, Until It’s Forgotten, recorded at the Colorado Sound Studios with producer Steve Avedis. In March 2023, she released a single, Abandon, with producer Mane Cabrales, along with another music video. Her next single and music video is a newly mastered version and new music video for the song Angel, which never had a proper public release until now!

HOOKER SPIT Announces Canadian Tour Dates + Streaming Single “Call of the Void”

“Krötch Splitter” Out July 2023

Red Deer, AB’s Hooker Spit announces they will be hitting the road this summer for Western Canadian tour dates to support their debut album “Krötch Splitter” out on July 28th, 2023.

The tour will kick off in Edmonton, AB on July 21st, and see the band trek across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan and will include performances at Loud As Hell Festival, Grover Fest, and CEMR MetalFest along with select dates with Regina, SK’s Augurium and Medicine Hat, AB’s Raising the Ruins (dates listed below).

As an up-and-coming death metal band with a penchant for writing infectious riffs, Hooker Spit is comprised of Vlad Gligor (lead guitar), Devin Link (rhythm guitar), José Garza (bass), Daniel White (vocals), and Scott Gooding (drums). The quintet is inspired by internationally acclaimed bands like At The Gates, Bloodbath, Carcass, and The Black Dahlia Murder. Filled with heavy chunky riffs, guttural vocals, and destructive drum grooves, Hooker Spit has developed a sonic quality and episodic visual concept that is unique to them. The band recently unleashed their first taste from their seven-track debut album “Krötch Splitter” with the single “Call of the Void”, which they comment on:

“This is the first song we wrote. It contains all of the elements you would expect in a Hooker Spit song. Lyrically the song deals with the subject of self-harm and the pendulum-like experience of someone who is trying to process those thoughts. The lyrics are intrusive thoughts personified. We did our best to represent the pain and suffering of someone dealing with these thoughts to address what we feel is something that many people deal with. This song does not glorify but rather tries to strike at the root inspiration for these thoughts like a sense of isolation and lack of purpose.”

Listen to “Call of the Void” at https://youtu.be/DpEi9clVS_Q

The album “Krötch Splitter” combines dark, heavy, high-energy music intertwining with lyrical themes that convey the abject cosmic horror of what it means to be human. The lyrics have many themes. These range from dystopian realities and the depths of cannibalistic depravity to living your best life and aiming for self-actualization. Inspiration comes from many places such as pop culture, esotericism, and life in general.

Melodic, but without sacrificing the aggression, Hooker Spit offers a classic death metal sound that is suitable for old-school and new-school fans, especially those with an interest in At The Gates, Lamb of God, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

“Krötch Splitter” is due out July 28th, 2023, and available for album pre-order at https://hookerspitofficial.bandcamp.com.
