Canada’s Every Hour Kills have the third single off the upcoming EP “Re:Awaken” ready for ears. The second of four tracks on the album is spacey, heavy with a complex barrage of sounds making it truly euphonic.

“Re:Awaken” is a concept album with a rich and colourful story that plays into the lore of Every Hour Kills. It sends the listener into the 22nd century, where humanity is deteriorating and the only help seems to come from a race of aliens, the Illusions. Their proposition was simple: in exchange for children who had not yet been consumed by the plague, they would give us medicine to heal the sick.

The single “Anthelion” features a guest guitar solo from Travis Montgomery of Threat Signal, Meytal, and Kill The Lights and is an angry tale of a man having his autonomy and rights taken away by the elite race and the loss of privacy in the new technological age. The band explains the listening experience in their own words:

“It is meant to smash together progressive metal with a cinematic film score. There are literally hundreds of tracks of synth and orchestration going on underneath the metal band foundation; so, each listen should uncover new tidbit of ear candy and layers, especially with headphones or good speakers!”

As an internet-only project, Every Hour Kills leverages this sole focus in bringing in a wide variety of guest artists from around the world and collaborates with artists of all kinds. This EP comes with a visual storybook from Splice Comics that supplement the themes of the band.

Geared towards fans of sci-fi, djent, and progressive metal, especially those with Scar Symmetry, Starset, and Bring Me the Horizon in their rotation “Re:Awaken” comes out on October 9, 2020.

The single “Anthelion” can be heard via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.

The full EP “Re:Awaken” will be releasing on October 9, 2020. EP Pre-Save HERE.

Every Hour Kills from Calgary, Canada is examining extraterrestrial threats and pondering the consequences of making dire and desperate decisions. Complete with a masterfully illustrated storybook from Splice Comics, this upcoming EP “Re:Awaken” is a work of art in many ways.

The second single off the EP is a Joe Satriani cover, “Time”, featuring a guest guitar solo from Rick Graham. It’s an instrumental dénouement to take the listener on a journey through the infinite. It is a heavier re-imagining of the classic, with enough familiarity to entice Satriani’s fans and a lick of creativity to stand on its own.

“Re:Awaken” is set in the 22nd century, when humankind was crippled by a relentless plague with no known cure. An ancient race of interstellar beings, the Illusorians, descended from the skies and offered a means to end the suffering of humanity. Each track follows the story of a person trying to navigate this cruel and unsettling reality.

Cinematic, progressive juxtaposing angular heaviness with soaring melody, each single is meant to stand alone and come together with the concept of the EP. There is no filler allowed in this project. The songs are all different yet still retain the underlying themes.

“The band plays metal that sounds extremely modern and melodic, coming across as a mix of Scar Symmetry and Fear Factory, with sprinkles of djent for added flair.” – New Noise Magazine

Suitable for fans of modern and progressive metal, and bands such as In Flames, Starset, and Bring me the Horizon, “Re:Awaken” comes out on October 9, 2020.

From Calgary, Canada comes Every Hour Kills, a hard-hitting melodic, modern metal project that has, in its many iterations, taken the local and international scenes by force. After going silent for a few years, Every Hour Kills has a new EP on the horizon, the aptly titled “Re:Awaken”.

In the 22nd century, mankind is faced with a difficult decision to sacrifice part of itself to save the other. Each song on “Re:Awaken” tells the story of an individual existing in this fragmented future; their struggle to exist amidst the chaos of forces of the elite alien race and the constant encroaching tide of technology. Every Hour Kills shares the evolution of this EP compared to the last:

“With every release, we are trying to push ourselves technically, in the writing and thematically. We aren’t limited to any particular genre or style, whatever feels right and comes out is allowed to happen – whether that be a blast beat or a guitarless synthwave section.”

The introductory single of the album, “Veiled Aurora” features guest vocals Shaley Bourget of Dayshell, Of Mice & Men & guest guitar solo Morgan Reid of Bloodshot Dawn. The first track on the EP provides a heavy, angular opening with an uplifting melody to signify the struggle and contrast mankind faces in the newly developing world.

“Re:Awaken” includes 4 tracks and instrumental mixes of each one, also Included is a high-quality illustrated storybook by Splice Comics to supplement the lyrical and visual themes of the band.

Every Hour Kills mixes djenty guitar work with electronic undertones, finished off with a variety of vocals gracing a wide range. They are recommended for fans of Soilwork, In Flames, and Starset.

“Veiled Aurora” releases on July 24th with the full EP “Re:Awaken” releasing on October 9, 2020. EP Pre-Save HERE.

EP’s Story Concept

In the 22nd century, humankind was crippled by a relentless plague with no known cure. Deteriorating further with each passing day, a once prosperous species began to slowly fade away into nothingness, unable to slow the tightening grip of mother nature. It wasn’t until the year 2136 that a way out of the hell we inhabited presented itself.

A solar eclipse, unlike anything our kind had ever seen, brought with it the solution to all of our problems. For the first time in human history, an ancient race of interstellar beings, the Illusorians, descended from the skies and offered us a means to end the suffering of humanity. Their proposition was simple: in exchange for children who had not yet been consumed by the plague, they would give us medicine to heal the sick. We learned that Illusorians were unable to reproduce without host lifeforms. By offering up our young so that they may use them to replenish their numbers, the human race would be slowly healed over time.

That day fractured the human race. Those who believed we had no alternative formed The Vessel of Light, living in worship and praise of the Illusorians. Those who preferred to wait out their days became a group of neutral Secularists. Lastly, a group of Insurgents took it upon themselves to wage war against the Illusorians, convinced their offer was nothing more than child slavery.

EHK’s birth began when drummer Rob Shawcross returned from a stint at the PIT in LA and approached Sacha Laskow after his departure from Nuclear Blast signed Divinity. From there, the duo worked together and recruited the best musicians they knew bassist Brent Stutsky) and vocalist Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster to the line up.

Progressing as a unit of epic, modern, melodic groove with a twist of djent, Every Hour Kills has pushed forward in studio over the years with Sacha Laskow leading the pack’s song writing to collaborate and create an extreme sound for new fans that ranges from those familiar with heavy weights such as Soilwork, Sevendust, Meshuggah to electronic music and even rock radio friendly tunes.

“The key is blending all those genres and influences into a cohesive style.” comments Laskow. “All the tracks we have completed at this time, are not written to ‘throwaway’ or do as filler tracks, every song has to have a ‘single’ quality for us to work on it and add it to our set.”

With their debut self-titled EP due for release in summer 2015, EHK is excited to set their metal scene on fire performing shows in their home base of Calgary, AB and beyond.

There’s a new sound exploding out of Calgary, AB’s rising metal scene, Every Hour Kills is the new modern melodic metal band featuring ex-Divinity guitarist Sacha Laskow, bassist Brent Stutsky (Breach of Trust), drummer Rob Shawcross (ex- Out Of Your Mouth) along with vocalist Jerrod Maxwell-Lyster (Walk As Chaos, Out of Your Mouth, Autobody).

Over the last two years, the band has been busy in the lab working on recording new songs to be unleashed to the masses. Last year saw their first single ‘Deliver Us’ exposed to the world and set the path for their next knock out force ‘Chosen’ produced by Joey Sturgis (Asking Alexandria, Emmure, Of Mice & Men, We Can As Romans).

“It was an awesome experience working with an outside producer this time, especially one as talented as Joey. Usually we’ve done everything ourselves, so it was really interesting getting an outside perspective from someone we respect. We are all beyond stoked with the results; Joey definitely added some of his magic to our vision and took the song up to a higher level. Lyrically the song is basically about rising up in the face of adversity, struggling to make our goals and dreams a reality amidst the chaos of the world and other people trying to drag us down. We are all ‘Chosen’ for something, to take our own path and create our own lives.” comments guitarist Sacha Laskow.
