“Power metal kings, Songs about sci-fi movies, What more do you need? ” – Metal Injection

“It’s the rare power metal record where the artist is as confident in handling its subtle, reserved material as it is its neck-thrashing, riff-centric centerpieces, and Dire Peril manages both aesthetics with more care than the bulk of bands in its genre. As far as straightforward power metal goes, this may well be the very best that 2018 has to offer. ” – Angry Metal Guy

“a sci-fi infused power metal monster. Ashcraft adds a more galloping, Iced Earth, huge and grand guitar riffing to the mix and of course Yelland’s vocals are phenomenal.” – Metal Marks The Spot

” Dire Peril’s first full-length album is an excellent display of American power metal.”  – Indy Metal Vault

“Bulletproof songwriting, soaring vocals, tremendous solos, exceptional song-to-song variety, and an uncanny ability to be both a little bit tongue-in-cheek and deadly serious at the same time: what in the goddamn hell more could you ask for? This is a marvelous album. ” – Your Last Rites

“this may well be the best Power Metal has to offer in 2018.” – Metal-Temple

“With their full-length debut, The Extraterrestrial Compendium, they have gone above and beyond my expectations, producing one of the best power metal albums of the year, which manages to be both very dynamic and consistently engaging throughout. I especially recommend it for fans of the harder hitting, more guitar driven side of power metal, as there’s a ton of thrash influence here, as well as a fair bit of classic heavy metal and some slight prog leanings. Everything is done well, with vocalist John Yelland giving the best performance of his career, and overall, it’s an amazing album from start to finish.” – My Global Mind

““in its conceptual and musical depth, Dire Peril’s The Extraterrestrial Compendium is rather epic and entertaining guitar-forward power metal…power metal and sci-fi go together like beer and pizza. Get it. You won’t be disappointed.” – Dangerdog Music Reviews

“DIRE PERIL prove that America still has great talent in the Power Metal realm” – Metal-Temple.com

“a wonderful album that will take you on an intergalactic journey through many popular sci fi movies. It is an album that is full of melodic vocals and kick ass guitars. ” – Baby Dolls and Razor Blades

SHORT BIO:

Dire Peril was an idea that goes as far back as Jason Ashcraft’s (guitars, bass) high school years. The band’s name was inspired by a PC game he used to play, called “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodline”, which has stuck with him ever since.

Originally formed in 2009, the band went on to create three EPs: Astronomical Minds, Queen of the Galaxy and Through Time and Space, and proceeded to play a handful of local shows, as well as a few out of town gigs. In 2015, feeling like things just weren’t as they should be, Ashcraft decided to take a step back and take a hard look at where the band was headed.

Inspired by all manner of science fiction, especially classic sci-fi movies, Dire Peril regrouped as a double piece; Ashcraft was joined by singer John Yelland, and together they began working on the debut album titled “The Extraterrestrial Compendium,” set for release on November 9, 2018. Recruiting a live line up enabled them to start playing live shows including an upcoming North American tour with Seven Kingdoms allowing the American sci-fi power metal band to reach its final form and share their dark, aggressive adventure with the masses.

LONG BIO:

Dire Peril was an idea that goes as far back as Jason Ashcraft’s (guitars, bass) highschool years. The band’s name was inspired by a PC game he used to play, called “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodline”, which has stuck with him ever since. Originally formed in 2009 as the name under which Ashcraft used to perform covers, the band wouldn’t see it’s true form until around 2012, when Jason joined forces with the Bay Area powerhouse vocalist Norman Skinner.

The band went on to create three EPs: Astronomical Minds, Queen of the Galaxy and Through Time and Space, and proceeded to play a handful of local shows, as well as a few out of town gigs. In 2015, feeling like things just weren’t as they should be, Ashcraft decided to take a step back and take a hard look at where the band was headed.

‘The Extraterrestrial Compendium’ bases each one of its 12 songs on classic sci-fi movies including Predator, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and E.T. and features guests Brittany Slayes (Unleash the Archers) and Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon).

Recruiting a live line up enabled them to start playing live shows including large North American tours with Sirenia and Unleash the Archers plus most recently supporting Seven Kingdoms this coming November on select USA tour dates. The American sci-fi power metal band is close to reaching its final form and is now ready to share their dark, aggressive adventure with the masses.

“Hickory, NC’s Rapheumets Well(pronounced Ra-few-mets) is a band heavily steeped in science fiction and fantasy. And when I say heavily, I mean HEAVILY. They slam dunk their lushly orchestral and luxurious symphonic melodic blackened death metal into a fantastical and fantastically creative and complex world that I don’t even want to embarrass myself trying to explain. But, you gotta give mad ol’ props to any band willing to dive head first into something as elaborately conceptual as this costumed and inventive septet have from the off.” – Decibel Magazine

“if you like the theatrical havoc generated by Fleshgod Apocalypse and Dimmu Borgir, for example, you’ll fall in love for the music found in The Exile, the brand new concept album by the symphonic horde known as Rapheumets Well. ” – The Headbanging Moose

“As you’re about to find out, this first song from the new album combines turbocharged death metal vehemence with sweeping orchestral melodies, interweaving blazing drumwork and rapid-fire riffing with cosmic synthesizer vistas and fluid soloing, vicious growls and hair-raising shrieks with a vaulting clean-sung passage that coincides with the protagonist’s decision to end his apathy.” – No Clean Singing

“The Exile brings symphonic elements to more intense and sometimes speedy death metal. Solid bursts of adrenaline, with the symphonies effectively working to provide a balance to these heavier moments, as heard in “The Epic of Darmak.” But the band is more than a one-trick pony, and frequently gives way to other flights of fancy while keeping the death metal sharp…an album that is well-written and enjoyable from start to finish. The potential is there for the band to really spread their wings for album number three.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The Exile is one hell of an intense and adventurous ride, and one that must be experienced if you dig on metal that is several steps to the left of centre.” – The Metal Forge

“Rapheumet’s Well waste no time in getting things going with opening track Ressurecting The Blood Gate, which sets the scene with an acoustic and stripped-back line before swiftly progressing into a heavier and fuller sound, complete with an absolutely stunning symphonic section, and when the vocals kick in, they hit you like a tonne of bricks. There’s so much body and power behind their delivery, and they subsequently leave a real impression on you.” – Soundscpae Magazine

“Interspersing lush orchestral bits into some brutally heavy yet beautifully melodic music, this band has managed to create one of my absolute favorite albums of the year so far.” – Get Ready To Rock!

Track Listing:
1. Resurrecting The Blood Gate
2. Dimensions

Blending a sound that is a complex mix of classical orchestrations, cosmic synths, and extreme metal to portray the epics of parallel worlds, Hickory, N.C. based Rapheumets Well (Ra-few-mets) bring forth a voyage enriched with lore, fabricated from scratch to show the depth in which represents them as artists.

Inspired by the fictitious universe of the Atai, Rapheumets Well is the name coined to the conscious deity who oversees the anastomosis of the multiverse, the master of portals and inter-dimensional travel.  Being personified as a trickster, Rapheumet often creates chaos for unsuspecting voyagers.  The word “Well” refers to the gravity wells, which like black holes, are catalyst of change and gateways between the cosmic plains.

“We created this name in hopes of personifying a living gateway between dimensions.  We love science fiction and a few of us have extended education and degrees in science.” says drummer Joshua Ward.

Formed in 2008, 2011 and 2012 saw their first two demos followed by their first self release full length ‘Dimensions’ unleashed in 2014 that progressively told a larger story portrayed in a complex saga of the Atai (ancient architects) who aid in the propagation of sentient life throughout the multi-verse. In 2016, they released their highly praised sophomore album ‘The Exile’ via Test Your Metal Records

From the birth of organic matter to great wars that tear the fabric of space/time, the story of Rapheumets Well’s music serves to immerse you into a world of oddities, which was then continued in the band’s third release ‘Enders Door’  unleashed on May 26th, 2017 via Test Your Metal Records.

The synopsis of that album was that in the fifth era of the Avomenian Empire, amidst the planetary ruins of Vaath, a rogue traveler would discover an artifact that would forever change his place in the cosmos.

Upon arriving to retrieve the artifact, it became apparent that Eryos’s brother Nathyiem would never make it to their arranged meeting point.  In departing from the planet Vaath, Eryos received a distress signal from his brothers ship, coming from an uncharted planet.  Upon arriving, he found a odd world inhabited by a mysterious species called the Dreth led by lecherous matriarch named Eishar.  It is here that he would uncover a faced-door, an inter-dimensional gateway to the Ender.

Now in 2018, the band returns with their epic “The Elder’s Anthology (Special Edition)”, a trilogy of sorts featuring selective tracks remixed and remastered from their three albums released over the years, Dimensions (2014), Exile (2016) and Enders Door (2017).

“Need a good song to pump you up for a long day? This classic punk-rock track (We Are One) might even fuel you up better than your morning caffeine boost. You’ll be screaming along with these powerful vocals and air-guitaring these riffs all week long.” – Alt Press

“Legends Never Die gets by on its attitude alone. It’s a short one at just six songs and seventeen minutes, but that’s all The Castor Troys really need to get their point across; very punk rock. “We Are One” is all you can ask for in a punk rock song. With ripping guitars, fast rhythm, catchy group vocal chorus, aggressive lyrics, you can’t ask for anything more. It is very reminiscent of The Offspring or Pennywise, and the alt-punk flavour of the mid nineties. “Watch The City Burn” is more of a classic rocker, maybe with a little southern vibe to it. It had me thinking of Ram Jam’s “Black Betty,” at least at the start. It showcases lead vocalist Aaron Walsh’s storytelling capabilities as he spins a yarn about Hamilton and his seeming irreverence for it.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

“The Legends Never Die EP departs from their debut album and takes their sound to the next level with a tighter chemistry and production. It boasts two full-throttle singles: “Blackout Love” and the follow-up, “We Are One”… Other standout tracks on the EP include “Burn This City Down” and “Wreck of the Bastard”. After a listen, you’re bound to walk away with at least a few songs stuck in your head! ” – LdnReverb

“Writing music that is catchy and instantly memorable, The Castor Troys weave tales in an accessible and uncompromising manner.” – Ignite Music Mag

“Hard rock revival? I fuckin’ hope so! Add another band to the burgeoning list – Ontario’s The Castor Troys. This hard rockin’ quartet infuse their dynamic new EP with strains of punk, country and loads of heavy rock. Adrenaline pumping screaming melodic anthems that only hard rock can deliver.” – Power of Pop

“The artwork for the Legends Never Die EP, that features a leather clad skeleton shifting into high gear in a muscle car, gives you a a fair idea of what to expect from Ontario’s The Castor Troys latest release, and you won’t be disappointed or surprised as this is balls out rock ‘n roll with a punk edge. ” The Punk Site

“They play a kind of anthemic punk rock with hard rock influences thrown in that has as much to do with Rise Against and Ignite as with Monster Truck and Iron Maiden… If you are into hard rockin’ riffs and tons of ooh’s and aah’s, feel free to check out The Castor Troys.” – Punk Rock Theory

“The new release from Canadian rockers The Castor Troys, everything about the EP caught our instincts and wants in a slab of rock ‘n’ roll whilst providing one of the most fiercely enjoyable encounters this year. ” – The Ringmaster Review

“If Legends Never Die is any indication, The Castor Troys are certainly a band to watch out for as they commence to tour across Ontario and potentially beyond in support of an EP that everyone should be listening to. From front to back, Legends Never Die is an exciting thoroughly enjoyable record.” – Canadian Beats

The Castor Troys are a story-telling hard rock band from Hamilton, Ontario. Through lyrics that tell tales of war heroes, bank robbers, and clandestine lovers, this intrepid four-piece peddles true stories and truer fiction. Drawing inspiration from bands like Headstones, Social Distortion, Motörhead, The Offspring, and Iron Maiden, The Castor Troys craft fiery and infectious songs that draw you in and don’t let go.

Taking their band name from a character in a John Woo film, The Castor Troys are a jubilant mix of hard rock, punk, country and southern rock. “Castor Troy was the villain (played by Nicolas Cage) in Face/Off. He was elegant, flamboyant and stylish, instantly likeable, while at the same time single-minded and ruthless in his pursuit of his goals.” expands the band on their choice of name.

Formed in 2013, they released their debut full-length album “Come Hell or High Water” in May of 2015 and their 6 track EP “Legends Never Die” on November 9, 2018. Working with producer Andre Kaden Black and engineer Tal Vaisman (Ascot Royals) has refined the band’s sound and enabled them to capture the fierce energy of their live performance onto record.

Proven by becoming the 97.7 HTZ-FM Rocksearch 2018 Finalists, The Castor Troys are a relentless team of stage veterans. They’ve played many festivals including Canadian Music Week and the Burlington Sound of Music Festival Kick-off concert. Writing music that is catchy and instantly memorable, The Castor Troys weave tales in an accessible and uncompromising manner.

Following the release of their 2017 EP “Ritualis Aeterna”, Canadian horror inspired symphonic power metallers MALACODA will be releasing a new full length album entitled “Restless Dreams” via ROCKSHOTS RECORDS on October 19th in North America and October 26th in Europe. The album delivers a full musical experience inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”. MALACODA first introduced their fans to the “Silent Hill 2” storyline with the track “I Got A Letter“, which was featured on the band’s sophomore release “Ritualis Aeterna”.

Inspired by the horror video game “Silent Hill 2”, “Restless Dreams” is a musical journey through dark tormented themes of doubt, loss, guilt and terror. The plot of the album follows a broken man’s journey through the ghost town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his dead wife asking him to meet her there. MALACODA brings a fresh interpretation of these themes and artfully bring to life the oppressive, claustrophobic aura of the fog consumed town with deviously clever song-writing and mind-catching lyrics. “Restless Dreams” is a musical release unlike any other. Fans and new listeners alike, prepare for an atmospheric and melodic metal descent into a world of horror and despair. “Restless Dreams” was masterfully mixed by Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith).

SHORT BIO:

Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s visceral, gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

Malacoda was originally intended to just be Lucas Di Mascio’s recording project. Inspired musically by Type O Negative, Katatonia and Paradise Lost, he wanted an outlet for his dark yet romantic musical ideas. He didn’t expect it to get as far as it has, now as 4 piece band with Vlad Prokhorov (drums), Mickey D Kiss (guitarist), Tiny Basstank (bass) in the ranks they continue to paint horrific and beautiful soundscapes. Malacoda has two albums, “Malacoda” (2014), and “Ritualis Aeterna” (2016), in their archives with a darker, more raw Silent Hill inspired concept album “Restless Dreams” set to be released in October 2018.

Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

LONG BIO:

Taking their name from a demon from Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, Malacoda’s visceral, gothic vision is indeed divine but no laughing matter.

Having worked in the music industry for a decade and feeling less than inspired by the overabundance of local thrash and death metal, Malacoda was originally intended to just be Lucas Di Mascio’s recording project.

Vocalist and composer Lucas, who studied Literature and Religion at University, explains: ‘The reason why I chose Malacoda as a band name was for a few reasons. The book, Dante’s Inferno, was a big influence on me as a teenager and young adult. It’s a very powerful piece of literature. I knew I wanted something from that book as a band name, and it’s one of the many names in the book that lent itself to interesting imagery- when you hear “Malacoda” it doesn’t sound like the name of a demon, it sounds like something more elegant and mysterious than horrifying. I wanted a powerful name that fit not only the sound of the band but also the lyrical themes I touch upon. The idea behind the band has always been to “find the beauty within horror”, and I think Malacoda suits that idea.”

Like the ‘Inferno’ that inspired their name they forge metal without limits in sonic shapes endless and horrifying in equal measure. Malacoda’s music vision shares much in common with Dante’s, they are unafraid to gaze into the abyss, unafraid to be inspired by the myriad of human horrors within and without. They are not blind to the worlds within them waiting to be born. Full of dark atmosphere, originality and innovation, this is gothic power metal for the 21st century, intelligence and intensity to rival that of their infernal inspirations!

What the press is saying:

“‘Penny Dreadful’ starts off this 25-minute six track EP and from the off, it feel like the influences of old Hammer Horror movies are rife across all elements of the music. Dark, foreboding and with lyrics to enjoy as well as unsettle, Malacoda have done a good job in the atmospheric storytelling department.” – Powerplay Mag UK

“These sixs track are loaded with immersive tempos, excellent guitar play and plenty of keyboard sounds. The end result reminds me of something between Dimmu Borgir, Nightfall, Moonspell and Kamelot, which obviously means that this music is epic as hell. My favorite track is ‘I Got A Letter’ but there’s a lot of gothic goodness to be found on this thing.” – Merchants of Air

“Its funny how I started listening to this EP straight after reviewing the excellent Devilment Album by Dani Filth and his cohorts , these guys would fit in perfectly with the Cradle of Filth front mans  merry band of Gothic themed demons live and would be an awesome addition to any Devilment / Cradle of Filth tour!” – The Metal Gods Meltdown

“an intoxicating blend of dark, melodic metal on this six track EP Ritualis Aeterna…25 minutes of gothic metal that is morose while melodic, as well as cinematic in terms of presentation and execution.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The result is a six song listening experience that I would simply describe as “Fucking Epic!”..Throughout Di Mascio demonstrates both an incredible vocal range as well as the ability to switch style and technique often many times throughout a single song. This cat can sing! He goes from dark guttural growls to a rich, melodic, almost operatic style on a dime. A standout track for me personally was the ballad, “Linger Here”. A simply beautiful and touching song that for some reason emotionally reminded me of Queensryche‘s “Silent Lucidity”…Ritualis Aeterna is an album that requires full on active listening. I would recommend the aforementioned quality headphones, a candlelit room and possibly a nice big glass of red wine. The complexities of the compositions will be lost if you throw this on as simply background noise and that would be a discredit to the musicianship found within. I totally look forward to seeing this band live on stage. If they can bring this to life live it will be mind blowing!” – Decibel Geek

“Ritualis Aeterna” marks the return of progressive power metal band Malacoda. Keyboard virtuoso Jonah Weingarten (Pyramaze) has joined forces with the band, adding a new potent weapon to the band’s sonic arsenal. “Ritualis Aeterna” is a mix of the band’s existing blend of melody and crunch but with an added dose of dark atmosphere. “Ritualis Aeterna” is Malacoda taking their sound to the next level. It’s much more than an evolution; it’s a rebirth.” – Progressive Music Planet

“when it comes time to create a soundtrack for the macabre, the mix of horror and rock produces some of the most entertaining and enjoyable music to ever reach my ears…The musicianship is supreme throughout…A listen to Ritualis Aeterna is a sonic journey into the horrific with the demon Malacoda as your guide.” – Glacially Musical

“This is a well executed and put together release and if you enjoy some power metal with a little extra touch of darkness to it, this EP is the one for you.” – Cadaver Garden

“The fallen angel of Symphonic and Horror Metal returns with six dark, romantic compositions that will beautifully captivate your metallic mind and heart.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Penny Dreadful kicks off with a compelling chorus and here and there light-filled doom-goth elements, lots of speed and a good dose of catchyness for such a dark track. Malacoda proves that they are far from your standard band and know how to create a unique atmosphere. ” – Wings of Death”

“Malacoda  plays an extremely interesting mix of heavy, power, gothic, black and atmospheric metal.” – Amped-Up

“beautiful EP, full of refined sounds, elegant and very atmospheric in terms of Gothic space and the symphonic and melodic arrangements that also include its Power side” – RTMB Music

“The group will satisfy fans of elegantly symphonic metal and dark colors, even if to get out of the borders of the underground would serve a wing blow, but we are satisfied and promote the Malacoda .” – Metal Eyes Iye Zine

“Malacoda aren’t just a band that excel mainly in their dark and gloomy keyboard atmospheres, as they also hit strong choruses (there are no ten minute epics here, so it’s mainly verse/chorus) in nearly every track that will actually get stuck in your head” – The Grim Tower

“Canadian gothic metallers Malacoda have further expanded their dark gothic vision by including even more literary and visual influences into their sound since their previous release.” – Don’s Metal Reviews

“dark symphonic metal with certain touches of power metal…”I Got A Letter”, maintains that mystical and dark halo, with great settings, where the bent voices acquire a greater presence, having a very catchy chorus.” – Necromance Mag

“The style of “Ritualis Aeterna” is quite unique, Malacoda have found a way to blend the styles of old school Heavy Metal mixed with some Horror tropes into the instrumentals and the use of the keys really helps to push your emotions in the direction the story is trying to make you feel. The real draw here is the vocal style of Lucas Di Mascio, the beautiful blend of haunting Power Metal vocals, almost Manson-style Industrial yells and of course the terrifying Black Metal vocals makes for a very unique experience.” – Five Magics Music

“An artistic way of expressing imaginary act. This could be a movie or a theatre act but it’s expressed as music. If you are into Type O Negative, Marylyn Manson… you may want to check them out, or if you like DARK music that touches you. – The Metal Mag

“What does this 6-track EP mean? For me, a good mix of horror, symphonic power metal, paired with dark atmosphere, originality and innovation. Really good! Add a touch of gothic romance to this mix and you’re ready for the well-seasoned midnight dinner for Helloween. ” – MetalUnderground.at

Iomair – Self-Titled (2018)

SHORT BIO:

Iomair, (Scottish Gaelic for the word “Row”) is the experimental and progressive new band created by Drummer/Vocalist/Songwriter Dylan Gowan (Vesperia). The name reflects on Dylan’s Scottish/Irish ancestry and the songs are reflections of personal circumstances present in Dylan’s life.

As the primary composer and songwriter for the band, Dylan approaches topics relating to personal struggles that everyone can relate to. “I hope people will find comfort in these songs knowing that you’re not alone with your struggles.”

The debut self-titled album features nine songs ranging from 4 and a half to 7 minutes in true prog fashion. It will be available September 21, 2018 via Infamous Butcher Records.

This roster of talented and seasoned musicians: Sam Astaroth (vocals), Gabriel Bateman (vocals), Laura C. Bates (violin), Tyler Williams (bass), Mike Amicarelli (guitar), Nathan Schiller (guitar), each with clout in the local music community, have continued to develop the melodic and emotional soundscape depicting the trials of life.

L-R – Chechu Nos (Guitar and Vocals)

SHORT BIO

Spain’s North of South brings to the table a hard to classify metal that could be labeled as Progressive Metal with Jazz, Death, Pop and Latin influences. Founded by guitarist Chechu Gómez (aka “Chechu Nos”), this project is the result of blending and amalgamating completely different elements and influences, such as At The Gates’ melodic punch, Carlos Santana’s Hispanic sounds, Opeth’s compositional deepness, The Police’s rich substrate-Pop, Anathema’s emotional power and Kate Bush’s chameleonic diversity.

Refusing to conform to genre standards and with a passion for his homeland, the first album “New Latitudes” will be released on September 28, 2018, adding an innovative, Mediterranean, and emotional dimension to the metal genre.

 LONG BIO

Spain’s North of South brings to the table a hard to classify metal that could be labeled as Progressive Metal with Jazz, Death, Pop and Latin influences. Founded by guitarist Chechu Gómez (aka “Chechu Nos”), this project is the result of blending and amalgamating completely different elements and influences, such as At The Gates’ melodic punch, Carlos Santana’s Hispanic sounds, Opeth’s compositional deepness, The Police’s rich substrate-Pop, Anathema’s emotional power and Kate Bush’s chameleonic diversity.

Similarly, the literary influence of authors such as Jorge Luis Borges, Orson Scott Card and William Shakespeare can be found in the songs of debut album “New Latitudes”, that, conceptually, gravitates around esoteric subjects like the enigma of time, the human condition, it’s challenges, and our own personal contradictions.

A longtime metal fan and guitar player, Chehu awaited his moment to begin writing his own songs and in 2017, that dream took flight. Situated in the captivating city of  León, Spain, the geographical location influenced Chechu’s decision on his project’s name:  “It makes reference to my city and my country. León is located in the north of Spain (from my country’s perspective) but in the south of Europe (from the continent’s perspective). In some way, the same interpretation is valid from a planetarian perspective as Spain is, more or less, in between what is considered the first and the third world.”

He goes on to explain the unique soundscape that can be found in his  music:

“The most important meaning [of the name] is the metaphorical one: the convergence of different cultures, the contrast of heaviness and melody, the mixing of different musical genres and, finally, the addition of southern/Mediterranean/latin sounds to Metal. You have the solid, hard, metallic element (North) blended with the warm, melodic, groovy ingredient (South).”

Refusing to conform to genre standards and with a passion for his homeland, the first album “New Latitudes” will be released on September 28, 2018, adding an innovative, Mediterranean, and emotional dimension to the metal genre.

“Play to Win, which might be their most balanced effort yet. It’s their most catchy, too: the likelihood you’ll be singing along with every song before they finish is very, very high.” – Metal Sucks

“expertly combined killer arena rock choruses with well-done, cleaner verses.” – Metal Injection

“Six albums in six years. That is something almost unheard of, even in the modern era of production that considerably lessens the time needed to record and mix albums. Striker always seems to provide a new album right around when I start to wonder, “Hey, I wonder what Striker is up to?”. PLAY TO WIN is the band’s 6th LP and to my ears, one of their best. Rest assured, the band has not altered their sound. This is still classic metal, mixed with modern elements that continues to leave all pretenders in a cloud of choking dust.” – Metal Rules

“You can hear influences ranging from Dokken to Metallica on Play to Win, and it’s all done with masterful songwriting, performances and production. This is a slick, aggressively-mixed record that drips with excitement and replayability… Striker have produced their best record since City of Gold, and all fans of straight-up hard rock and metal need to own this album.” – Heavy Music HQ

“Striker have knocked this one out of the park and into the stratosphere. You’d be hard-pressed to find a catchier slice of fine cheddar this year, and I’d highly recommend it.” – New Noise Mag

“STRIKER have done it again. They hath given unto thee one monster of a metal album that simply begs to be put on REPEAT.” – Amps And Green Screens

““Catchy choruses, well-crafted riffs and squealing solos are woven throughout… Play to Win is another solid effort from Striker.” – The Metal Crypt

“Each track is overflowing with riffs and hooks that captivate the listener. Each track stands strong enough on its own, but together create a strong contender for another Juno nomination. This is not an album you should overlook.” – Hellbound

“If you like 80’s rock with big guitars, or metal that’s fun in general, check out Striker and crank it up. You won’t regret it, I promise.” – Diary of A Music Addict

“Blending the music by Iron Maiden with Motley Crüe, Stratovarius and Van Halen, which in the end resulted in sheer awesomeness, Striker offer us the thrilling On The Run, showcasing a brilliant vocal performance by Dan while William keeps extracting that metallic sound we all love form his bass, whereas The Front is another classic song by Striker, also feeling as it was taken from an 80’s Hair Metal album…Striker are a band that keeps winning no matter what with each and every release and the flame of Canadian metal will remain alive and vibrant while we have those skillful metalheads from Edmonton among us, always playing to win. ” – The Headbanging Moose

“Striker gush with so much enthusiasm here, with explosive riffs swirling between the vibrant harmonies and choruses, that it’s hard not to notice…Tracks like “Former Glory” and “Born to Lose” are anthemic, catchy as hell and feature soaring vocals from Dan Cleary and terrific guitar work by Tim Brown…On Striker, the band take a host of influences and hone them into a sound they can call their own.” – Exclaim!

“From the first storm-summoning power chord on the opener Former Glory, Striker (CAN) proves their new album’s initial claim of not dwelling on the past, a high and appropriate cry of “Yeah, I’m back again!”… If you haven’t witnessed this inspiring resurrection of classic metal, the band plays Friday, April 14 at Starlite with Ravenous and Tylor Dory Trio, no doubt sharpened from the faithful overseas audiences.” – Edmonton Journal

“When a band releases an eponymous album it’s a statement of intent, a sign of confidence, everything being as it should be. For make no mistake, Striker are a special band. As the old Metal Gods ascend to Valhalla, new gods will arise. This is Striker’s fifth album and it’s just timeless. Not retro, not looking back, but taking everything that’s uplifting and glorious about heavy metal into 2017 and beyond…this album has to be in every writer and fan’s top ten at the end of 2017.” – Hellbound

“A less balls out, more aggressive record than its predecessor, STRIKER delivers another impressive collection of high energy headbangers….Regardless of what your heavy metal predilections may be, STRIKER offers something for everyone. Super catchy tunes dripping with shred gymnastics and all around technical prowess, Striker deserves a place on any metal fan’s playlist….If you have not experienced Striker yet, this album is a worthy place to start and should appeal to a wide range of fans, particularly followers of the Priest, Anthrax and Maiden.” – Metal Rules

Champions in blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Canadian shredders STRIKER announce they will be unleashing their sixth studio album “Play To Win” on October 26th via their independent label Record Breaking Records. Revealing their artwork and track listing, the album features 10 fist pounding shredtacular anthems produced by the band plus mixed and mastered by Hendrik Udd (Firewind, Powerwolf, Hammerfall, Delain). The album follows their 2017 self-titled full length that the band supported with tours across Europe and North America with Sonata Arctica, Dark Tranquility, and Warbringer along with festival appearances at 70,000 Tons of Metal, Bang Your Head Festival (Germany) and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade plus career. That fifth studio album also garnered them a nomination from Canada’s JUNO awards, the country’s highest music prize, along with wins at the Edmonton Music Awards and Western Canadian Awards.

In support of the release of “Play To Win”, STRIKER are launching a crowd funding campaign along with album pre-order via their official website www.striker-metal.com/shop beginning August 9th.

Guitarist Tim Brown comments:

“Play to Win: if you want to win you have to play the game. Find the rules and break them. This is our 6th album and 3rd independent release. If we followed the rules and listened to the industry people we’d have gone absolutely nowhere. Play To Win is about listening to yourself, following your own path, and playing that 5th ace hidden in your sleeve. This album is designed to light a fire under your ass and get you moving, and we made sure to get the most modern, ear melting sounds possible. It’s all about where metal is going, not where it has been, and this is our soundtrack to success.”

“However, what they’d rather impart upon you is their love for adult beverages. Given Decibel’s and Hitman’s mutual love of suds (rumour has it there’s a festival we’re throwing out west in a few months that’s all about metal and beer; get your tickets here) and the various permutations of metal spawned from the roots of the family tree planted by Black Sabbath, the ol’ liver pounders should get along well ‘round these parts.”- Decibel Magazine

“Halifax stoner-metal outfit Hitman is back with its third release, The Offering: Side One, a four-track EP that shows both progression in sound and better execution of bringing its live atmosphere on record. The songs are its most hot-blooded to date, with guitar tones dialled-in in a way that follows the band’s lead, instead of the other way around.” – The Coast (Halifax Weekly)

“Dirty, scruffy, fuzzy riffs. Beards and whiskey. Biker anthems and huge groove. That just about sums up this monstrously strong four-track third EP from Hitman, a four-piece band who hail from Nova Scotia….it’s a chunky slab of stoner rock which should be on everyone’s menu.” – Powerplay Mag UK

“an onslaught of intense, energetic, and sick-nasty jams ” – Canadian Beats

“Hitman’s The Offering (Side 1) is gritty, hard-hitting, and accessible, with a nice southern sludge aftertaste. Certainly, fans of Orange Goblin and Corrosion of Conformity will find plenty of sustenance here.” – Doom & Stoned

“If you like your stoner metal dripping in riffs, hooks, crusty growls and soaked in liquor then you’re in luck as that is exactly what Hitman are offering on this 4-track EP. Energetic and intense, this EP looks to capture the rock-bar sound of a live experience. It’s hard not to envision a dirty dive bar with shots of whiskey lined up while Hitman smash apart the stage with the catchy groove of Under the Weight, Nero and Enchanted Wizard/Hail the Outro. ” – Games, Brrraaains & A Headbanging Life

“This is a gem. Hitman kill it on these four cuts. Part two is due next year and you can count me in.” – Maximum Volume Music

“it rocks and rocks out powerfully…”The Offering: Side 1″ leaves you with a satisfied grin and strengthened neck muscles.” – PowerMetal.de

“A well-rounded set of tracks, with plenty of hooky little moments to lodge in the ears and memory, this batch of tunes should have fans well satisfied while drawing in a good crowd of new listeners to hear what they’ll come up with next.” – The Burning Beard

“The Offering: Side 1 exudes a corny type of old-time groove that I seldom find these days. This is how Stoner Rock ought to sound, full of long-gone flavors reminiscent of early Black Sabbath and Judas Priest combined. With a few additional amps added to the fray, of course – because they can. So, here’s to a juicy slice of rock, straight from the cold shores of Canada. Go and get some, you will not be disappointed” – Rock Music Raider

“Curtain Call hits fast with dirty riffs. Under The Weight crushes, throbbing drums with a hell of a swagger. Nero tears it up, thick massive licks, romans ablaze. Enchanted Wizard/Hail The Outro charges forth, taking no prisoners as it lays waste to the landscape with dope hits. I look forward to seeing what Hitman can do with a full-length.” – WRUV 90.1 FM (Burlington, VT)

“”The Offering Side 1″ is their third ep and quite possibly, their best.  While executing the same energy they bring to their live show this recording easily demonstrates why Hitman are among the premier heavy bands coming out of Atlantic Canada right now. From the opening riff of “Curtain Call” to the end of “Enchanted Wizard/Hail The Outro” this EP kicks ass and keeps the energy high without repeating itself.  Each song contains a perfect blend of raspy yet melodic vocals, blistering guitars and great songwriting.” – Bill Aresnault – Mettalworx

“So I’ve had the privilege to sit down with the new Hitman EP, and here’s what’s up. The boys hit back full throttle with their trademark take on Heavy Metal, which delves with influences from a couple generations of the genre for a unique sense familiarity; yet sounds fresh and engaging. With a riffing style that could almost be described as Pantera meets Black Sabbath, vocals that ring, to me, as a James Hetfield/Phil Anselmo hybrid; furthermore with a melodic sense that strongly reminds me of Thin Lizzy. On top of that, with a superb production job that captures all these vibes on point that will melt your ear holes. Hitman cover all the bases adding their individual touch along the way bringing their strand of ‘Heavy Fucking Metal’ to the Maritime scene. Looking forward to Pt. II of the EP at a later date!!” – Travis Macleod

Playing an energetic brand of stoner metal guaranteed to get your blood pumping and headbanging, Hitman have been unleashing their unique whiskey rock assault since 2011.  Located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, they have been gaining notoriety by playing hundreds of gigs along with festivals plus Rob Halford of Judas Priest supported the band by wearing a Hitman T-shirt onstage during a performance in Halifax in 2015. Talk about great exposure!

Sylvain Coderre (drums) started the project initially and reached out to long time friend Jordan Rose (vocals) to see if he’d be interested in fronting the band, who was followed by Andrew Coutts (bass). A week before their debut tour the band found themselves short on members so Corey Norman (guitars) stepped in, learned  the setlist in a week, they hit the road with the solidified lineup.

With musical influences ranging from Black Sabbath to Pantera to Sleep, Hitman coins themselves as high energy, whiskey infused and stoner rock keen on punching out hard rock riffs.

“We’re a stoner band who drinks too much and loves to party. So the roots of sludgy stoner rock are there but the booze fuels some more up-tempo songs. Basically we just want fans to enjoy the music and live shows as much as we enjoy making the tunes and performing.” quips vocalist Jordan Rose.

In 2013, Hitman performed at the inaugural Maritime Metal and Hard Rock Fest in Nova Scotia, Canada and released their debut EP “Whiskey Downfall”. In 2014, they returned to the festival as headliners and dropped the second EP “The Preacher” which was re-released in 2015 with a bonus track. Continuing on this momentum, Hitman won their way to play at Warped Tour 2016  in New York through contest held by Live 105 FM. That year they also returned to headline the Maritime Metal and Hard Rock Fest again.

With 3 EPs under their bullet belts, they continue to conjure a blend of stoner rock that is both familiar and fresh. With new music in the cauldron, “The Offering: Side 1” EP planned for release in 2018 followed by “The Offering: Side 2” in 2019, Hitman is poised to continue proving why they are one of Canada’s best up and coming acts.

“Cool riffs abound in “Abominable Hash-Men” and “Witch-Jive”, but the title track surprises with a mixture of hard hitting angry metal, total doom drone and a final chug of boogie. The cover art is also striking. Pretty much a great debut from Ape Vermin. ” – Wormwood Chronicles

“Sonic Monolith is an impressive debut for a band that only formed last year. It’s a band that have a built in audience with their Sabbath-meets-Conan sludge metal.” – Hellbound

“Astral Drones kicks in with some sludge, the distorted feedback fuelling the urge for a mosh and a half. The slowness of the riffs, and the delivery of the vocals makes this one hell of an opener. ” – The Median Man

“The clarity and production on this album is second to none. Crisp as the morning frost on the tips of fresh cut grass. The bellowing sludge that is Ape Vermin has an eye towards a very clean churning sound. The impact and depth at which Brett Lee’s crass yet crystal clear vocals hits will take you aback. The North Carolina trio kick off their debut with well thought out high-end sludge where the cathartic fuzz dominates. Five tracks that engross and some progressive influences that shine on “Abominable Hashmen” (check-out the last minute of fretwork). Recruiting David Paul Seymour to do the artwork was also a brilliant move to add some intrigue to the eye of sludge fans.” – Rotation 11

SHORT BIO:

Formed in August 2017 by Brett Lee (guitar/vocals/percussion) and Charlie Burleson (percussion), Ape Vermin is a sludge metal trio hailing from Valdese, North Carolina that delivers progressive, primal and percussive grooves to the masses. Birthed from the same vein of doomy prog acts such as Conan, Sumac, and Slabdragger, they are a treat for anyone who wishes to indulge in thick, tasteful riffs and a heavy, distorted overall sound.

After enlisting the talents of  Charlie Burleson and Jeb Laird (bassist/backup vocals), the band began writing and the debut album “Sonic Monolith” was released in June of 2018 with a great response. Sonic Monolith is the story of higher beings with a malevolent plan to release a dangerous subspecies of an ape with the ultimate goal of re-propagating the galaxy.

Still a fledgling band, Ape Vermin continues to push their limits as musicians, and test different styles, genres and influence to further develop their sound. Focusing on sludge and doom, Ape Vermin likes to keep things spicy with nods to black metal and prog. With future plans to tour, and release more albums as well a comic book, Ape Vermin is looking forward to the future.

LONG BIO:

Formed in August 2017 by Brett Lee (guitar/vocals/percussion) and Charlie Burleson (percussion), Ape Vermin is a sludge metal trio hailing from Valdese, North Carolina that delivers progressive, primal and percussive grooves to the masses. Birthed from the same vein of doomy prog acts such as Conan, Sumac, and Slabdragger, they are a treat for anyone who wishes to indulge in thick, tasteful riffs and a heavy, distorted overall sound.

Ape Vermin was the product of a dark rut that Brett Lee found himself in while between musical endeavours. Under the influence of the band Iron Monkey, Brett was inspired by the song Big Loader and under the hum of fluorescent lighting at a gas station in the middle of the night, things fell into place and the new project was named.

After enlisting the talents of  Charlie Burleson and Jeb Laird (bassist/backup vocals), the band began writing and the debut album “Sonic Monolith” was released in June of 2018 with a great response. Citing that they, as a band, want to give listeners a journey, they broach topics including astronomy, murder, occult, myths, apocalypse, and extraterrestrials. Sonic Monolith is the story of higher beings with a malevolent plan to release a dangerous subspecies of an ape with the ultimate goal of re-propagating the galaxy.

Not wanting to be constricted by the standards of the genre, Ape Vermin goes to great lengths to ensure their live performances are powerful, epic and interesting. Brett further explains what can be expected when taking in the live band:  “I like to put my guitar down, while our bass player keeps the thunder rolling, and let the feedback ring out, or I will have a riff looped in a looper pedal, and I will do tribal style percussion with my drummer.”  Still a fledgling band, Ape Vermin continues to push their limits as musicians, and test different styles, genres and influence to further develop their sound. Focusing on sludge and doom, Ape Vermin likes to keep things spicy with nods to black metal and prog. With future plans to tour, and release more albums as well a comic book, Ape Vermin is looking forward to the future.
