Out Now! Finnish Horrorcore AS I MAY Unleashes New EP “Dark Royal Revy” Inspired by The “Nightmare on Elm Street” Movie Series

Finland’s horror squad AS I MAY is back with a killer new EP entitled “Dark Royal Revy”. The EP, mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings) is heavily influenced by the legendary horror movie series “Nightmare on Elm Street” and the video game “Resident Evil“.

Combining modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience, AS I MAY deliver “horrorcore” with infectious choruses and creepy chaos.

The band comments on the release of the new EP:

“This was a big project and journey for us. We carved a lot of our sound into the ideas that we had in our heads. It wasn’t as easy as we thought. We had to find a new tune for our instruments. Define guitar, bass, and drums all over again and then bring all atmosphere elements. All these songs are from much lower tunes than we have ever written any songs and we brought even more lower screams to back those up. We had to self-produce this EP. The idea was so clear for us that it was really hard to describe it to anybody who is an outsider to the band “

“Dark Royal Revy” is now available on all digital platforms as of November 8th, 2024.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 4, 2024

Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Scary Single “Never Stop Dreaming” Influenced by Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series

The Finnish horror squad AS I MAY is back with a killer new single “Never Stop Dreaming”. The song is inspired by the Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Series and combines modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore synths to bring horror chills and atmosphere to haunt your listening experience. If 80- horror movies, down-tuned riffs, and big choruses are something that you’re looking for, this is for you.

The band comments on the track:

“We all are big fans of Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Those were the first real horror movies when we were kids. I think maybe a couple of us were too young to watch those movies and also got nightmares from them, so Freddy has stayed with us all this time.”

“Never Stop Dreaming” was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek (Sawdust Recordings).

In additional news, As I May had a line change-up in early 2024 when Jani Valhola stepped out from the ranks and was replaced with Jere Koponen.

Lasse comments on Jani’s departure:

“Yeah, it’s sad to do any lineup changes. I have played with Jani for over 2 decades in different bands. Jani has been building his own mixing business for many years and it has got really strong ground now and he has tons of work with it. We have toured in 14 countries and played in many great venues, festivals, etc. together. So he has seen a lot. He has been struggling to find time for all of this. So it’s natural to keep following your dreams and build a bigger business. It’s really hard to try too many things well at the same time. We are all really going to miss him and wish him the best of luck in the future. He says thanks to all of the fans that came to see us live and listened to our music”

Montreal, QC – March 15, 2023

Finnish Horror Squad AS I MAY Release New Music Video “The Last Breath”

Scared of clowns or abandoned houses in the middle of the woods? Well… Finland’s AS I MAY is back with a killer video for their new single “The Last Breath” that will give you that much-needed horror fix. Combining modern low riffs with a little taste of deathcore plus synths that bring horror sweeps and atmosphere, As I May’s “horrorcore” sound delivers a catchy sing-along chorus to this chaos.

Vocalist/guitarist Lasse Hiltunen adds:

“This video was new territory for us. We shot in 3D and green screens. We thought that we could get that same atmosphere from the video that is in the song with lyrics such as “‘urn down the house’. Basically, the main idea came from that phrase and we needed a reason to burn a house, and have some murderous clowns. Let’s try those in there too. This video came out much more scarier than we thought.”

“The Last Breath” is the first single and title track off their yet-to-be-released third LP that was mixed and mastered by Christoph Wieczorek at Sawdust Recordings.

Finland’s As I May are revealing another killer tune with a music video on the eve of their European tour with Brazil’s Semblant (dates listed below). Hard-hitting guitar riffs and pop-hit vocal melody grace “Traitor” is a song with a hook so big that it will haunt you for days. “Traitor” is an evolutionary track for As I May. The soundscape is different than their previous songs, as it emphasizes more on vocal power and synths. The guitars have a different place than before and are paired well with bass and drums. This song carves As I May‘s new sound to come on future releases.

Directed by Kimmo Pulliainen, the music video for “Traitor” was shot at As I May‘s rehearsal place, which is an old military bomb shelter. NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 10, 2021

For fans of In Flames, Amorphis, Avenged Sevenfold

Finland’s AS I MAY New Music Video “Charged”

New Album “Karu” Coming 2022 via Uprising! Records

The Finnish melodic tradition runs hot in the veins of AS I MAY as they release the second single from their forthcoming album “Karu” due out in 2022 via Uprising! Records.

“Charged” is a song as heavy and energetic in the verses as melodic and addictive in the chorus. A combination that already proved to be a winner for the Finnish four-piece.

“The whole idea for the song came from the Netflix “Making A Murderer” series”, vocalist & guitarist Lasse Hiltunen says. “The song is based on fiction and we don’t have any opinions on that case, but what a story! The actual song has really hard-hitting guitar riffs with an, almost, pop hit vocal melody in the chorus, with metal guitars. For the music video, we tried to get more of that story-vibe with colours of flame and charcoal. Sad, tragic story from all points of view“, he concludes.

Finnish modern metal act AS I MAY have released their second album ‘My Own Creations’ as of July 26, 2019 via labels Rockshots Records and Spiritual Beast(Japan). The sophomore full length is a fast-paced blend of modern metal with metalcore highlights. Working on writing music that is easy to identify with a digital atmosphere, AS I MAY make their listeners headbang and sing along to the catchy choruses.

The band had this to say about the release of ‘My Own Creations’:

“‘My Own Creations’ is modern, melodic, heavy, unique sound trip for the listener. It’s one story from beginning to end. People can identify with the songs and atmosphere. At one point you will be headbanging and the next you will singing catchy choruses. The album goes through a full scale of emotions. There are a lot of unique hand crafted tones on it.”

The band has released three singles prior to the album’s release ‘I See You In Me‘, ‘Cure Is Worse Than Disease‘ and ‘Pride Goes Before A Fall’. The songs have already had over 100,000 combined Spotify streams.

BIO:

As I May is a four-piece modern melodic metal band from Mikkeli, Finland – formed in 2016. The group now consists of Tipi Nokelainen (vocals and bass); Lasse Hiltunen (vocals and guitar); Jani Valhola (backup vocals and guitars) and Marko Korhonen (drums). As I May has since started to gain ground in the Finnish heavy metal scene. The music’s soul lies within catchy melodies and big choruses. As I May combines modern elements, yet keeps focussing on the heavier side.
