NEWS RELEASE
Montreal, QC – March 14, 2017
For fans of Revocation, Mastodon, Lamb Of God, Pantera, Opeth

Toronto’s SLUDGEHAMMER have unleashed their new video for ‘Demons From The Woodwork’, one of 11 tracks on their debut album ‘The Fallen Sun’ released during June of last year. The video is a band playthrough demonstrating their mind bending guitar solos, devastating heavy riffs, blistering drum fury and dynamic vocal performances from lead vocalist Chris Szarota plus bassist Dan Ayers.
The video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBG8vTP992g
Plus their previous video ‘Carrion Eater’ can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAbgAUBrzvo

The four members worked hard over the next few months to put together a demo, which was released at the band’s first gig on November 22nd, 2013. The demo was well received even though it was completely self-recorded and the gig offers kept on coming, along with new fans.
With the success of the demo, the band knew that it was time to step things up and hired producer Christian Anderson for their 2014 release, ‘Organ Harvester’. During the writing sessions, the band decided that Chris and Dan should share vocal duties for this record, as Dan’s voice had been absent from the demo. The dual vocals proved to be a force to be reckoned with and on August 11th, 2014 ‘Organ Harvester’ was released to rave reviews.
‘Organ Harvester’ gained both new fans and better shows, gathering serious momentum and solid name among the metal community. However by 2015, after playing many gigs with the ‘Organ Harvester’ material it became very obvious that the fans were hungry for more. The band began writing more songs for the next release and kept playing gigs, which led them to guitarist Tyler Williams. Tyler was working as a sound man at the Atria in Oshawa, ON where Sludgehammer was playing, and after their performance, Tyler approached the band. They set up a jam and in July 2015, Tyler Williams joined Sludgehammer.
The new five piece line up produced a much fuller sound as Jeff and Tyler began working together. The old songs were given new life and badass new material was being written for their next release, titled ‘The Fallen Sun’. The new songs featured dynamic vocal performances from Dan and Chris, mind bending guitar solos, heavy riffs and blistering drumming. As the songs started to pile up, Sludgehammer discussed recording a full length album. Tyler suggested that they record at his studio, Monolithic Productions. The band set up shop there and unleashed ‘The Fallen Sun’ on June 10, 2016.

Montreal, QC – March 14, 2017
For fans of Gojira, Sikth, Mehsuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me
The Sludgelord Premiere SLAGDUSTER’s ‘Peeping Ron’; New Album ‘Deadweight’ Out May 5th

Isolation has most certainly bred inspiration in the shape of SLAGDUSTER. Hailing from Grand Forks, B.C, the band is name after a slang term local to their area for a piece of machinery that was used in the mines over a hundred years ago.
“We are the only four musicians in our small town driven to form a progressive metal band.” says vocalist Shane Sherman.
Inspired by such giants as Goijira. Sikth, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me, SLAGDUSTER offer a progressive, groovy, creative, unique and heavy sound.
It’s been a few years since their debut album ‘Nature.Humanity.Machine’ and SLAGDUSTER is ready to unleash their follow up ‘Deadweight’ due out on May 5th, 2017.
“Naturally our sound has come a long way since our debut release in 2010. The music is more complex, and much more developed, still heavy, but even more groove based. Listeners can expect to be challenged by focusing on the compositions, or lost in the musical landscape.” says vocalist Shane Sherman.
Teaming up with TheSludgelord, SLAGDUSTER is giving fans a taste of what’s to come off ‘Deadweight’ with the exclusive premiere of their first single ‘Peeping Ron’.
The band comments:
“‘Peeping Ron’ encompasses many aspects of our upcoming album ‘Deadweight’. Grooved rhythm, technical riffing, odd time signatures and pummeling vocals are layered over complex drum work seems to be constant theme on this record. Enjoy!”
Listen to ‘Peeping Ron’ by visiting the following link: http://thesludgelord.blogspot.ca/2017/03/track-premiere-slabduster-deliver.html
Like the ancient machine they are named after, SLAGDUSTER work hard to draw art from base material, they’re sound is meticulous and lengthy. All nine of tracks on ‘Deadweight’ have been very slowly and carefully crafted over the years. No songs were scrapped; all were completely revamped continuously for years. SLAGDUSTER put way more effort into collaborative song writing, which has significantly advanced their original sound. Each track contains a variety of things, ranging from ripping riffs and tremolo melodies to soft transitional parts and psychedelic interludes on top of constant heaviness and groove.
Of course, these songs are transformed in SLAGDUSTER’s live show, which vocalist Shane Sherman describes as “high energy, bordering on ridiculous, with offensive banter and annoying antics from an attention hungry front man. Well executed yet fun and light-hearted performances perfected over years of touring.”

“witness their antics and groove metal.” – Beatroute (Live review Armstrong Metalfest 2016)
“this is one seriously cool album — a collection of inventive, head-spinning songs played by four extremely talented musicians.” – No Clean Singing (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)
“Although Slagduster’s music thrives on instrumental variation on themes within each song, with dynamic tempos and even occasional changes in time signature, the songs remain anchored to driving rhythms that organize the jumping, darting complexity of the music.”– No Clean Singing (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)
“This release is oddly appealing, intriguing, a little different and undeniably catchy.
Step outside your comfort zone and give this diverse chunk of metal a spin you may well be surprised as was I. Definite groove, unpredictable melodies all in a style that’s wholly enjoyable.” – Thy Demons Be Scribblin (review of 2010’s Nature. Humanity. Machine.)

About:
Since forming in 2014, Closer To Found’s mission statement has been simple. Using catchy choruses, heavy grooves, and powerful lyrics. Closer To Found aims to create the most complete musical experience possible. This mentality is what defines their debut LP, ‘Always Just As Lost’ and culminates in the energetic and emotive atmosphere of their live shows.
Co-vocalist Lawrence Leylekian explains the band’s name represents “the human struggle to find one’s self. The name was formed to represent how the songs are cataloged moments of the ups-and-downs throughout that journey.”
Lawrence sees Closer To Found’s debut as a serious statement of the band’s intent.
“’Always Just As Lost’ uses heavy groove-driven riffs and timely uplifting choruses to truly convey the struggle, which takes place within the lyrics themselves, and should be received as a testament to the diversity that the metalcore genre has to offer.”
Closer To Found are a band brave enough to gaze into the abyss that is the reality that surrounds us.

They are inspired by the daily negativity that we are all bombarded with, and attempt to keep the mind on a positive track…The album as a whole is a journey one finds themselves embarking on as their realize their problems, what it takes to fix them; and the various pitfalls, which can occur along the said journey.”

First launching on to the Edmonton metal scene in 2006 and releasing their debut EP ‘Project Infection’ in 2012, ABSINTHE FROM SOCIETY return in 2017 after a short hiatus with their next release ‘The Angels Ignored Us’ due out February 24th.
Comprised of Ian “Saint Absinthe” Harper, the founder of the band (vocals, guitar and keyboard) and Adam “The Caveman” Roberts (drums & percussion) with Lexi “Shitkicker 9000” Graham (bass & vocals), the trio combine an aggressive sound with ethereal texture.
Their new release ‘The Angels Ignored Us’ touches on emotional themes with a raw heavy backdrop.
Band founder Ian Harper comments:
“Existing fans will love it and hopefully other people who hear it for the first time will be impressed. The EP has a lot of raw sound, which was part of the goal for the EP. We didn’t want anything overly produced because that seems to be the trend these days, and we feel that live music is really at the root of any musical renaissance.”
Influenced by bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, The Tea Party and The Foo Fighters, ABSINTHE FROM SOCIETY are not trying to be innovative, but simply pushing to entertain and reach as many people as possible.
“We find our music attracts different people. We have a heavier sound, but we do have softer melodies. My lyrics are emotionally charged and give each track its own personality. In this new EP, my writings deal mainly with relationships and especially toxic ones, which I’m sure many can relate to along with feelings of frustration and anger as well as sadness. Overall, whether you’re a mosher or someone who stands and grooves, we find we’ll appeal to most in the metal spectrum.”
Live, ABSINTHE FROM SOCIETY give it their all, lots of energy and engagement with the audience that they have been honing since their return to their local scene.

‘The Angels Ignore Us’ will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Bandcamp and all major online retailers as of Feb 24, 2017.
EP Track by Track breakdown by the band:
Reach for the Sky is a great example of how to honor your heroes, but through quality songwriting, not actually rip them off. If you like your Metal old school and bruising you’re going to need to check out Solitude.
