MEXICAN STANDOFF Have A Tasty Cheap Trick Inspired Track “Denver Omelette”

New Album “Raiders of the Dutch Rudder” Out Oct 2024

Italy’s Mexican Standoff is delighted to announce the release of their Cheap Trick inspired song “Denver Omelette”.

“This our take on 80’s Glam Rock, less hair metal and more Cheap Trick style melodies. The chorus revolves around a stop and go that emphasizes its open melody.” says the band.

Showcasing their blend of classic rock energy, metal aggression and punk rebellion for a groovy musical experience, “Raiders of the Dutch Rudder” draws from metal, glam and punk, for a sound that is both fresh and familiar with lyrics ranging from imaginative storytelling to personal reflections.

Rock n’ roll fans don’t have to wait any longer for the heavy and infectious debut tunes from Los Angeles’ Gigantum. After releasing 3 well-received singles that show off doomy riffs, creative solos, and relatable lyrics, they are excited to see the reception for their first work together as a group. Mia X, the band’s bassist and primary lyricist, shares her vision:

“I wanted to create a heavier band than the rock/punk groups I’m used to playing in. I wanted a chance to play my instrument more and expand myself creatively. Finding Mark at a Fu Manchu show was a stroke of luck. Chase, Blare, and I have been in each other’s lives and playing together for over a decade. It just made sense for it to be the four of us.”

Innovative and eclectic, this six-track collection showcases the band’s unique ability to blend heavy riffs with intricate storytelling and diverse musical influences. Not held back by the structure of a certain genre, Gigantum has a lot of room to evolve and they set into that role with gusto.

This EP is a true collaboration, and each track offers a distinct experience, taking listeners on a sonic journey as they explore each individual personal of the tracks. The EP is now available on all major streaming platforms and is recommended for fans of Clutch, Baroness, Royal Thunder, and Fu Manchu.

“The musical beating begins right away with a primitive, lead-weighted, slamming riff, and the macabre gurgling of the song’s (Vile Rotting Mass) protagonist. But the torturers behind the music then begin to really relish their ghastly work, hammering and darting faster, rattling the drums more maniacally, ejecting brazen and blaring chords, spilling out gutturals most foul and screeches most noxious. With a couple of quick pauses, the band then hit us with a blast-beat seizure and whirling fretwork spasms, before slamming again and ultimately slowing the pace into even more ruthless and abysmal territory, this time accompanied by the monstrous crocodilian utterances of their guest Angel Ochoa (from Cephalotripsy, Abominable Putridity, Disgorge). At the end, the wailing and moaning guitar reverberations sound utterly dismal, in keeping with the song’s thematic conception.” – No Clean Singing

0 SPREAD THIN Unleashes New Video For Explosive Track “Gaslit” Off New Album “World of Snakes” Out Now!

  • September 5, 2024

  • · Music News · Spread Thin

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 5, 2024

SPREAD THIN Unleashes New Video For Explosive Track “Gaslit” Off New Album “World of Snakes” Out Now!

Unleashing their debut full-length album “World Of Snakes” this past July, Wisconsin hardcore quartet, Spread Thin has a new music video for fans for their explosive fist fury track “Gaslit”. The song speaks of the frustration of watching someone you love struggle and when you try to help, it blows up in your face every time.

Vocalist Ben Deml adds:

“They will constantly blame things wrong with them on everyone else and eventually you just reach this point where you really start to believe you might be the problem. The cycle repeats. Gaslit.”

Watch the video via its premiere on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“World Of Snakes” is Spread Thin‘s introduction to the scene and they are looking forward to the reception of this no-filler, straightforward hardcore album with pungent power-violence and grind influences. They comment on the album:

“We are extremely proud of this record. The songwriting, production, and overall flow is what we wanted for this debut full length and we feel that previous fans so the band will hear and appreciate the evolution, as well as new fans discovering us for the first time.”

Over the course of 18 minutes, Spread Thin demonstrates earnest lyrics with fervent delivery, vocalist Ben Deml thrashes through raucous, scraping guitars wielded by guitarist Alex Dewall. An acute focus on syncopation of the rhythm section is executed by the chaotic, strategic percussion of drummer Tristan Wells and the garish, lively bass arrangements of bassist Bryan W. Fleming.

The album artwork for “World Of Snakes”, was created by Alyssa Servizzi who, according to the band, absolutely nailed the mood and imagery they were looking for and they feel that it best describes the album visually. Unapologetic and impassioned, Spread Thin defines a volition of candor in their songwriting and live performances with forthright emotion and presentation. They are recommended for fans of Rotting Out, Magrudergrind, and Weekend Nachos.

“World of Snakes” was released on July 26, 2024, and is available at the following links:

“Spread Thin: Wisconsin Hardcore Unit Gets to the Point on “Unjustified”” – NoEcho (World Of Snakes – 2024)

“the Wisconsin-based hardcore quartet has crafted an opus that is as unapologetic as it is indignant, drawing influences from power violence, grind, and sludge.” – Metal Devastation Radio (World Of Snakes – 2024)

““World Of Snakes” is like a precise and short shot from a gun with eighteen minutes full of intensity! Spread Thin look immense playing live, but with a very clear sound coming from them. I immediately imagined how insane it must be on stage, and I hope they soon return with more material!9/10” – Ever-Metal (World Of Snakes – 2024)

“Spread Thin are adept at leading you into the fire before offering an olive branch of thrashing guitar rhythms to resist the heat. Whether we call it powerviolence, hardcore or grind, it delivers on all levels.8/10” – Scream Blast Repeat

“This is kind of a scream core/hardcore thing from right here in Wisconsin (LaCrosse)!” – 89.9 WORT FM – The Moshpit (Madison, WI) (World Of Snakes – 2024)

” from the very start of opening track “So Much Hate” the record sounds like it was recorded live on the floor with a bass heavy mix and ferocious vocals giving it an urgent Hardcore Punk energy. Deml wears his heart of his sleeve with his personal lyrics which will resonate with anyone who has suffered from anxiety or depression as lines like “I can’t take any criticism, I take it straight to the heart” float around the brain like a bullet ricochet. That furious cathartic vent continues into “Factory Job” which will resonate equally with anyone who has reached the point with their job that sanity is hard to maintain. A Grind inspired opening salvo is followed up by bouncy basslines that inject a real sense of fun so it’s not all fire and brimstone. Wells absolutely destroys the ear drums with his percussive battery on “Gaslit“, arguably his finest of the album and influences from Rotting Out and Weekend Nachos bleed through the sonic abrasions nicely. 8/10″ – Metal Noise (World Of Snakes – 2024)

“Short and to the point, Spread Thin have a sour outlook and plenty to say, but keep the focus sharp with an album that barely passes the eighteen-minute mark in length but features nine tracks. With all but one of the tracks sitting around the two-minute mark, it’s really no surprise that this is a violent and virulent expulsion of hardcore punk and metal intensity.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (World Of Snakes – 2024)

“From the moment So Much Hate arrives, Spread Thin are swinging hard with their unflinching heavy sound. One that alternates impressively between garish speed and methodical strength. The latter part of this track is killer. Although delivering knockout blows is par for the course with Spread Thin. Factory Job, a manic venting session for everyone who has had to experience the back-breaking work of such a job, Gaslit, a track that is brutally honest and brutally harsh, and Know What’s Bullshit?, a straight up barrage of heavy hardcore fury demanding you wake up to the depressing reality of routine.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (World Of Snakes – 2024)

“World Of Snakes in fact, there is a raw energy combined with a furious madness brought by a vocalist full of banter, uttering sharp cries (, sometimes alternated by powerviolence-style groans Spazz). Snarling vocals that are nevertheless often understandable, he is also capable of sending punchlines that make you smile (mention to « I’ve stopped believe in fairytales when I was fucking five! » during « Nailed »). With its in-house ( production signed by the bassist and mixed/mastered by Will Hirst, who takes care of the sound of Restraining Order), World Of Snakes sounds almost like a live take from the group, combining a lot of dynamism with its ultra tense and « side which scratches » ( guitar and bass sounding on the scrap metal side). Highly recommended for those who like their very angry hardcore punk.” – Eklektik Rock (World Of Snakes – 2024)

Montreal, QC – September 5, 2024

Canada’s THE WRING Latest Single “The Nail” Is A New Blend Of Aggression And Prog Metal

New Album “Nemesis” Out Sept 27th, 2024 via WormHoleDeath Records

The Wring – Album Lineup – L-R – Kyle Brian Abbott – Drums, Don Dewulf – Guitars, Reggie Hache – Bass, Vocals & Keyboards

Sudbury, Canada’s The Wring continues to build anticipation for their upcoming album “Nemesis” with the release of their new single “The Nail”. This track is a hard-hitting showcase of the band’s ability to blend heavy rock with progressive influences, delivering a sound that is both aggressive and intricate. “The Nail” features a compelling mix of rhythmic complexity and melodic intensity, as guitarist Don Dewulf comments:

“When there is no baseball or hockey on TV, I will flip to the MUCH LOUD video channel where they play anything that has a guitar in it (rare these days, as I do not count what Taylor Swift does as ‘playing guitar’). I stumbled on a song by The Offspring called Behind Your Walls of Pain. For some reason, that song stuck with me. Once I broke it down, it was the i-vi—iv progression that I found interesting. This is uncommon without the V chord. I twisted it up for the chorus and added a bunch of different parts to make the song. Lyrically, there is no disguising my disdain for the unprecedented lack of decency, honesty, and respect in the world right now.”

“The Nail” delves into themes of perseverance and struggle, a recurring motif in the band’s work. The track’s driving rhythm, punctuated by Dewulf’s razor-sharp guitar work and Abbott’s thunderous drumming, provides the perfect backdrop for Hache’s evocative vocals and bass lines. The song’s structure, which oscillates between intense heaviness and intricate melodic passages, keeps listeners on the edge, reflecting the tension and release inherent in the song’s message.

Watch and listen to the music video for “The Nail” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Nemesis” will be released on September 27, 2024, via Wormholedeath, with distribution by Aural/Orchard, it is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.

“Prog’s Tracks Of The Week – Aug 16, 2024 – The Wring – The Sword” – Prog Magazine

What the press has said about The Wring:

“Here’s one for prog dorks. This outfit’s third outing (Spectra) features drums by Marco Minnemann so you know the rhythms are mad. The regulars in the band ain’t slouches either though. This is intricate and melodic prog done well.” – Metal Injection (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“A band composed of top artists from the world prog scene, each of whom brings their own style to the band’s sound. Technique and energy, melodic passages, dynamic and expressive vocals and elaborate instrumental sections characterise the album. A recommended listen for all lovers of Progressive Metal sounds, an album to listen to again and again, always managing to give us positive emotions.” – Progressive Rock Journal (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“Tired of prog metal bands who fire away odd rhythms, fast solos and complex arrangements? Half of them trying to sound like Dream Theater but all failing completely? Look no further. The Wring from Canada offers great musicians who find their own way through the prog metal jungle. I said great musicians and I really stand for that. Or how about Marco Minneman (drums), Chandler Mogel (vocals), Don Dewulf (guitars), Reggie Hache (bass, keyboards) and Isamu McGregor (keyboards)”… Sometimes they are a bit more commercial, like in the first song ”Stiletto”, reminding me a lot of Threshold. Other songs bring a bombastic wall of sound, with riffs do die for – ”The Wolf” is a great example. The early parts of ”Fallen” has some Rush vibes (of the later and more rock base Rush era) and also softer parts Mogel is a very good vocalist, and he can alter his voice a lot. Something of a voice chameleon!” – Melodic.net (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“The opening notes of ‘Sins’ remind me of the opening salvo in Judas Priest’s ‘The Ripper’. Some of the riff structures are also reminiscent of Priest and it’s another great track.” – TheProgSpace (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“The third album Spectra by the Canadian progressive rock project The Wring is downright infectious with its joy of playing and catchy Hard Prog Rock songs. There really is a lot of light and very little shadow here.” – Soundmagnet (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

““Wring² Project Cipher comes with a heavy, classic rock feel, but there’s an epic, questing nature to tunes like Sorceress, Steelier and Dose that pushes The Wring beyond metal norms and into prog territory.” – Prog Magazine (The Wring – Project Cipher 2021)

Ottawa, Canada’s Infrared proudly presents their new music video “Manifest Nation” for their latest album “Manifestation” set to release on September 6, 2024. As purveyors of classic thrash metal, Infrared’s roots run deep, having first gained acclaim in the 80s with their hit “Thoughts Caught (in Between)”. Since then, they have released 3 albums and two EPs with Manifestation as the fourth full-length album. They share their excitement:

“With life as busy as it is and some life challenges plaguing the band, the release has been delayed a few times. This is the longest we have sat on a finished album. With determination, we ramped up and filmed four videos and did all it takes to put together what the fans want, new classic thrash metal with a modern feel.”

The single “Manifest Nation” rips and grooves all the way through while singing about a society losing itself and its way. They try to manifest a better life, but with all the technological distractions, they never achieve their goal.

With the album “Manifestation”, Infrared has taken inventory and assessed its back catalog, and looked to see what it could improve on. The result is straight-to-the-point songs that are high in energy and aggression all while staying true to the classic thrash sound. This barn burner of an album is recommended for fans of Exciter, Sacrifice, and Razor.

Listen to the premiere of the album stream for “Manifestation” and the video for “Manifest Nation” via Metal-Rules HERE.

“Manifestation, an album that exists as an old-school thrash album in the vein of Testament and Death Angel without sounding entirely and blatantly old-school.” – Decibel Magazine

“Heavy, powerful sound throughout and so much catchiness, it’s crazy. By now I must have listened to maybe 250 new albums this year, and this one is definitely in the top 5. Highly recommended for fans of technically minded thrash that fucking slays.” 4.75/5 – The Metal Crypt (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“Infrared’s “From the Black Swamp” is EXACTLY what the METAL world needs right now… full of heaviness, riffy-ness, depth, progressive leanings and thrashing madness! After consecutive strong releases over the last 5+ years, Infrared’s musical growth cannot be ignored! Raging from their classic 80’s roots, they’ve yet again raised the bar in terms of what powerful thrash metal should represent and embody in today’s heavy music landscape. I cannot get enough spins of this new release! A modern thrash metal masterpiece, this new slag of heaviness incites that tingly feeling on the back of your neck that you just can’t shake off… the thrash metal flag is triumphantly waving for these Ottawa legends!”- Steve Kraus Host of 6o on CKLU 96.7FM (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“Truly recommended as an essential to all thrash fans! 5/5” – Metal Epidemic (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“If you are a fan of very well crafted thrash metal, plan to add From The Black Swamp to your collection. Buy Canadian!” – Sleaze Roxx (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“INFRARED delivers vintage thrash metal with styles comparable to Slayer, Testament and early Anthrax. As all good things typically come back around and this old-school sound is a refreshing change in today’s metal landscape… As a Canadian band that started in the mid-eighties, it is impressive that INFRARED is still making a serious mark with their latest release. The impeccable studio work and enviable songwriting surely position this band for GREAT things to come. 9/10” – Spill Magazine (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“You can expect a bouncy style featuring sneering vocals, a hefty bass tone that goes hand in hand with the crunchy riffs and solid drum mechanics – crossing lines between thrash and traditional metal, along with the occasional punk/hardcore angst that fueled the early days.” – Dead Rhetoric (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“From The Black Swamp” is a masterpiece the world needs right here right now. Don’t call yourself a Bay Area thrash fan if you ignore it as I predict it will be someday mentioned in one breath with “South Of Heaven”, “The New Order”, “Peace Sells But Who’s Buying”, “Rust In Peace” (BIG TIME!), “Ride The Lightning” or “Master Of Puppets”, mark my words. 6/6″ – Eternal Terror (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“Black Swamp’ is far from average, it is Infrared doing what Infrared do best and thrash fans will bang their head in appreciation.” – Metal Digest (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

“Once again, Infrared offers us a thrash metal that is both complex and easy to access: we will never get lost in watchtower-style twists and turns. 9/10″ – Soil Chronicles (2021 – From the Black Swamp)

EPK – Helevorn – Espectres (2024) – Meuse Music Records – Out Sept 13th

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We think it can be an intense experience for those who want to connect something very emotional and very philosophic with dark and gloomy music. This album is based on Hauntology, described first by Jaques Derrida and after by the philosopher Mark Fisher. He wrote ‘The Ghosts of My Life’, an amazing book where he describes the ‘slow cancellation of future’ and a lot of great concepts about the specters and the absences. How they make us what we really are. Is a fantastic concept to write a Doom Metal album, isn’t it?” – Helevorn

About The Album Artwork:

That’s an old fig tree. In the middle of a dead soil field. But it lives. That tree is not only what it is, it exists due to a series of absences that make it present in the world. That’s the same for the human beings.

So that fig tree is moved, so is more than real or maybe is a ghost.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Explained by Josep Brunet – Vocals

We think it can be an intense experience for those who want to connect something very emotional and very philosophic with dark and gloomy music.

Is a fantastic concept to write a Doom Metal album, isn’t it?

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Explained by Josep Brunet – Vocals

1. Inherit the Stars: The connection we have with the Universe. What would happen if we all die and the Earth disappears? Very Helevorn Song.

2. The Defiant God: God gets angry with humankind. Should we pray more or should we fight for him until death?

3. Signals: The hit. The beginning of the song (the key part that makes you dance) was made with guitar melodies before entering to record the album. It was there that our producer suggested we record a key sequence to make it more ‘gothic’. And there is a guitar solo performed by Biel Gaya that is awesome.

4. When Nothing Shudders: It starts very slow and it ends very very high. It’s about the genocide of Palestine. Very raw and real.

5. Unbreakable Silence: Dedicated to Mark Fisher and people who finish their lives due to mental illness. That’s not an individual issue but a problem that we , the society, should work in common.

6. L’Endemà: A song in Catalan, our mother tongue, with some female vocals performed by Ines Gonzalez. Very heavy, doom, and with a beautiful chorus.

7. The Lost Futures: The slowest and doomed song we have ever written. Very old school. No future because post-Fordism killed it.

8. Children of the Sunrise: It was just a piano song that turned into a very special song in the studio with a very special guest appearance of Thomas Jensen of Saturnus. Dedicated to all the children who came to this world to make it a better place. I thought about my two children when I was writing it.

HELEVORN FIFTH ALBUM

We started the recording sessions of our fifth album on January 29th, 2024, again with Miquel A Riutord ‘Mega’ at his studios in Inca (Mallorca). The same studio where we recorded our last two albums.

The last three years have been very intense for the band due to some lineup changes. The fact is we had to ask Sebastià Barceló (Trallery) to record the drums because it was impossible to find a permanent drummer.

Moreover, the last year was very productive (we decided to not play live so much), we composed the eight songs that we had just recorded at the studio.  We finished the sessions some days ago.

About the new songs:

The songs are a bit different than in the past because is the first time that the new guitar player (Alex) has composed the 60% of the album, so we can say that ‘is Helevorn but in a new (but) same way’. You will find the same atmosphere, and the same feelings but played a bit differently. Maybe more raw, with more details, more technique, etc. We really love the way that the band started working with the new members and how they put their ideas in common.

We definitely found comfortable with the idea of  ‘Mediterranean Doom’ in our previous album, but now is, without any doubt, less epic, less ‘folkie’, and more Doom and Metal. And as always, we can say that we are so proud of this album and maybe they are the best songs we have ever recorded (is very common to say that, I know).

About the concept:

We love to write about real things, and we have always done it.

This time it came to our hands the book of Mark Fisher ‘Ghosts of my Life’ and we decided that we wanted to talk about it. The ‘hauntology’ gave us the departure point where we started to write non-stop and gave life to our songs.

Mark Fisher wrote about how post-Fordism and neoliberalism broke the way that music and culture, in general, were able to create something new, so that’s the ‘slow cancellation of future’. The examples he gave are fantastic.

The idea that Fisher talks about the ‘specters’ is the part we have dug more into.

How these specters conform to our thoughts, our feelings, and our longings.

Indeed, it is something philosophic but at the same time kind of ethereal.

Espectres” is due out on September 13, 2024 from Meuse Music Records.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 3, 2024

Fantasy Metal WARLOCK A.D. – “Ancient Dragon of Storms Flüffir Mighty Guardian of Valley (Techno Wyrmhole)” Lyric Video Out Now!

Sophomore Album “Book II: The Valley of Vâgené” Out Sept 2024 via Rockshots Records

Set to unleash their sophomore album “Book II: The Valley of Vâgené” on September 27th, 2024 from Rockshots Records, UK fantasy power metal 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐊 𝐀.𝐃. continue their quest to The Valley of Vâgené with the lyric video for their third single “Ancient Dragon of Storms Flüffir Mighty Guardian of Valley (Techno Wyrmhole)”.

“Enter the Caverns of Nave at your peril…for you risk awakening the Ancient Dragon of Storms Flüffir – Mighty Guardian of The Valley of Vâgené!” adds the band.

Inspired by the more synth-laden works of Angus McSix, Beast in Black and Gloryhammer, listen to the single at the following links:

Over two years in the making, this entry into the WarlocK A.D. saga is bigger, thicker, and more powerful than anything they have brought you before! The album is 12 tracks of interwoven musical storytelling implementing the use of motifs, themes, and callbacks. From the sweeping orchestral movements of “The Golden Showers of Prestønia” to the frantic folk metal flavorings of “Rothgar Warsong”, the album combines the sound and styles of various iterations of orchestra-led melodic metal – culminating in what feels like a fully-fledged D&D style epic told through the medium of a Heavy Metal Musical. Recommended for fans of Nanowar of Steel, Angus McSix, and Beast in Black.

“Set directly after the events of “Book I: The Reserrection”, the album begins with Whiteacre The Mighty Warlock stranded in A Strange New World – powerless and alone. With the help of the Elven Prince Quinn Eilianther, Horatus the Mushroom Wizard and Ahriman Cullblade the Shadow assassin, Whiteacre the Nomad begins the long quest to The Valley of Vâgené – said to be the home of a gateway to the vast infinite multiverse. Danger awaits the brave heroes however, for Brittanni is ruled by the tyrannical Dwarf Emperor Thorumm III who seeks The Valley for his own nefarious purposes. The prophesized coming of a stranger to the land of Brittanni has awakened the gateway – and the race to the multiverse has begun… The land of Brittanni holds many secrets, and not everything is as it seems… The quest to The Valley of Vâgené begins NOW!” adds the band.
