0 DeadRhetoric – Helevorn – Aamamata – “Aamamata is an experience that oozes with desolation and gloom, yet still provides that slightly uplifting feeling at the end of the day.”

Aamamata is an experience that oozes with desolation and gloom, yet still provides that slightly uplifting feeling at the end of the day. Bone-crushing riffs that reverberate with emotion join up with some more introspective moments (see “Goodbye, Hope”) to bring in the contrast that bands like Daylight Dies and Novembers Doom have done so well, yet the structuring of both gives Helevorn a little wiggle room to reach for their own sweet spot.

BLACKGUARD Announce New Album “STORM” Coming In 2019 + First Show In Four Years In Toronto

March 22  – Coalition  – Toronto, ON w/ Crimson Shadows

Seminal Canadian melodic death/folk metal band BLACKGUARD announces their first show in over four years as well as their plans to independently release their long-awaited fourth studio album “STORM” in 2019 to follow their 2011 full length “Firefight” on Victory Records and 2009’s “Profugus Mortis” released on Sumerian and Nuclear Blast.

The band made the following announcement via their facebook page.

“It is with great pleasure that we can finally start sharing with you our plans for this year! We will be playing our first show in four years at Coalition in Toronto on March 22nd with CRIMSON SHADOWS (Napalm Records) and BOREALIS (AFM Records)! This will be one hell of a fun show with some of our oldest friends so come out and make this a night no one will forget.

Details / pre-order info for our new album “STORM” will be revealed in the coming weeks and of course, some new music for everyone to sink their teeth into. It’s been a long time coming, but we’re finally here so stay tuned!

We would like to take this time to thank all of you from the bottom of our black hearts for your continuing support for this musical entity that has been such a huge part of our lives for so long. This next chapter in our history is a return to our roots, we’re going at this alone again without the shackles of business obligations that brought us to the brink in the past. This is a labor of love beyond the typical metrics of “success” or “failure” and sharing this piece of us with you is our apotheosis.

And finally, for those who don’t know how this all began….

Our out of print first record “So It Begins…” under our original name “Profugus Mortis” is now available for download on our Bandcamp page (https://blackguardmtl.bandcamp.com/album/so-it-begins-5) for 5$. It’s a trip to hear the band’s evolution to what we are now and we hope you will enjoy this glimpse into our history.

Thank you all.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 21, 2019

For fans of Draconian, Swallow The Sun, Paradise Lost, Woods of Ypres

Spanish Doom Metallers HELEVORN Posts New Lyric Video “Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)”

New Album “Aamamata” Out Jan 23rd, 2019 via Solitude Productions/BadMoodMan Music

Shadows of The North Canada Tour 2019 w/ Majestic Downfall

L-R – Enrique Sierra (Keys), Josep Brunet (Vocals), Will Adrift (Bass), Sandro Vizcaino (Guitars), Samuel Morales (Guitars), Xavi Gil (Drums)

Exhibiting their elegant and gloomy music around the world, Palma, Spain’s melancholic doom outfit HELEVORN have posted their new lyric video “Nostrum Mare (Et deixo un pont de mar blava)”, which is sung in eight different languages. The video is in support of their fourth album “Aamamata” due out this Wednesday, January 23rd via Solitude Productions / Bad Moon Music.

Check it out at https://youtu.be/5Yw7akleTPQ

Vocalist Josep Brunet explains the track:

“This is a song about what our Mediterranean Sea was and what is nowadays… I mean, during the past times it was a sea to share, to grow, of course, there was a lot of wars, but it was our true nation, of all of us, so in this song appears eight different languages of our big cultural area (Greek, Maltese, Spanish, Arabic, Catalan, Italian, French, and Hebrew), and we had our friends and fans of the band do the vocals on it.

The lyrics for it are from a poem by Catalan writer, Miquel Martí I Pol, translated into these eight languages. The melodic vocals done by Julia Colom too are really awesome; we had goosebumps on our skin when she was recording her vocal parts. Very epic, gothic and very deep.”

“Aamamata” follows their 2014 album “Compassion Forlorn”, 2009’s “Forthcoming Displeasures” and 2005 debut full length “Fragments, which have anchored HELEVORN’s place in the global doom scene.

The band adds:

“We think that fans will love the new album. We know that we are not discovering something new, we are creating 90’s goth-doom metal in present times. It should be received like a piece to reborn the scene and for the music to relate on the decadence of humankind through the drama of the refugees that are dying and trying to escape from the hell that the Western countries have put them in.”

With more and more fans craving the somber tones and dreary vocals, HELEVORN has brought their dramatic intensity to many European festivals including Dutch Doom Days, Gothoom Open Air, Wave Gotik Treffen, and Madrid is the Dark Fest. They are also bringing their gloom to Canadian cities this coming May for their first cross country tour with Solitude Productions label mates Mexico’s Majestic Downfall (dates listed below).

HELEVORN’s current lineup consists of Samuel Morales (Guitars), Josep Brunet (Vocals), Xavi Gil (Drums), Enrique Sierra (Keyboards), Sandro Vizcaino (Guitars) and Guillem Morey (Bass).

Vinyl and CD pre-order of “Aamamata” on HELEVORN‘s online store here and Solitude Productions here.

“A lot of really cool stuff comes from Canada. Poutine, Tim Hortons, the REAL A&W, mountains, moose, and lots of really sick metal bands. Some of my favorite metal bands are actually Canadian: Archspire, Beyond Creation, Beneath the Massacre, and Gorguts to name a few. Hailing from Ottawa, Ontario, Misshapen continues with the trend of high-quality Canadian metal in their brand new music video for the track “The Swarm” off of their upcoming EP Transcendence. This track features a really cool and unique blend of technical death metal, black metal, death metal, and melodic death metal. Really digging the vocals and the visuals in particular with this band. It is somewhat reminiscent of my favorite years in Dimmu Borgir’s sound.” – GearGods

“MISSHAPEN have created a powerful set of five tracks. They’re fast, melodic, technical, layered and heavy. It’s like if you took the melody and atmosphere from AETHEREUS’s “Absentia” and mixed it with the riffage of VALE OF PNATH’s “The Prodigal Empire”. That’s MISSHAPEN’s “Transcendence”. I look forward to a full-length.” – Metal Temple

“The debut five-track EP Transcendence by Ottawa, Canada’s Misshapen, is worth adding to your collection of music that will get you hyped. There is no shortage of energy and blast beats to help revitalize your soul with this blend of death metal, technical metal, and black metal. The melodic riffs and solos are almost enchanting while the vocals are ferocious.” – The Music Below

“Blending death and black metal with technical and symphonic stuff, Canada’s Misshapenknow what they’re doing.” – Loud Unity

“Their melodic death metal is certainly rooted in the mainstays of the genre, but Misshapen are more on the technical side of the spectrum, making this is little less “catchy” that what one would expect, but potentially more interesting to musicians. They put a lot of emphasis on the melodic aspect of their music, mostly highlighted by quite a bit of clean, melodic vocals while still remaining heavy enough to keep things on the right side of the fence.”  – The Metal Crypt

“a  very  great  sounding  melodic,  technical  and  symphonic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band. ” – A Different Shade of Black Metal Zine

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, Misshapen are a diverse and melodic metal band blending elements of death metal, technical metal, and black metal. Their debut EP ‘Transcendence’ was released earlier this year February 8, 2019.

Capturing the attention of audiences since 2016, Misshapen seeps melodies with harsh vocals, further ignited with technical riffs and meaningful lyrics. ‘The Swarm’ is the most ferocious track on the EP and would be recommended to fans of Ne Obliviscaris, Children of Bodom, At the Gates, and Dimmu Borgir.

‘Transcendence’ an adventurous, dark and distinct five-track EP that brilliantly showcases the band’s influences while synchronizing and utilizing each member’s special ability as a musician.

“Overall, this was a very original album. I find it very difficult to locate a counterpart for RED CAIN, as they have clearly created their own sound in the genre. What we have here is a two headed beast of sad and melancholy music on one side and angry and raging music on the other. The two combine somewhere in the middle with flair for the dramatic and impassioned vocals. This is definitely worth your time if you are looking for something off the beaten path.” – Metal Temple

“Red Cain’s first full-length act is a more than solid release that I can warmly recommend if you enjoy the likes of Kamelot, TesseracT and Blind Guardian or just enjoy some good old thinking man’s metal music in general. With a charismatic frontman, well thought out and varied songwriting and a healthy dose of power and energy, Red Cain is a up and coming Canadian act that I’ll sure be keeping my eye on!” – Belgian Metal Shredder

“Kindred: Act I is all about raw and unbridled metal power. A thoughtful brand of metal that – for once – does not base itself on mindless growling about the stage along normal lines of metal conduct. Instead they rip the established status quo to pieces and attack with a very unusual metal dish. One that comes with a distinct groove to boot… a very tasty fusion of Progressive and Power Metal that we have rarely seen to date. A metal dish best consumed red-hot. Have some, you will not regret it.” – Rock Music Raider

“Symphonic progressive metal with alternative and gothic nuances – Red Cain are well on their way to establishing new territory in story telling and musical match-ups. Kindred: Act Irepresents a fine opening album for these Canadians, and should lend itself well to various multi-media opportunities for live show and film options. The best records connect on a mind, body, and spirit level – and this will be one that should be in the conversation for visionary, forward-thinking effort, proving the ink is not dry on what metal can bring to the table for innovation.” – Dead Rhetoric

“I couldn’t be more impressed with this band and album from the opening track “Snake Bouquet” to the last track “Wing Of The Crow” which is an awesome closing track with guest vocals from Kobra Paige of Kobra and The Lotus. This album takes you on an epic and melodic journey, I feel fans of bands from Avatar to Kamelot to Marilyn Manson and anything in between will really love this album.” – Crannk

“Red Cain have produced a very awesome album. It sounds and looks very professional, has great riffs and epic melodies. Keep an eye on these guys, they will come very far.” – Lyrical Spell Magazine

Highlight: #9 – RED CAIN – Canadian National Loud Chart – (Earshot) – Nov 15, 2016 (2016 S/T EP)

“With a lot of buzz surrounding the new recording, the local scene is soon going to start seeing this group all over local venues.” – PureGrainAudio (2016 S/T EP)

“Red Cain comes at you with a head-banging force. The impact when you hear the song Guillotine will be leaving you wanting to hear more!” – CFMU 93.3 FM – Master Radio (Hamilton, ON) (2016 S/T EP)

“What works best for Red Cain are those spots in between the sheer intensity of what’s on display – a proper dynamic understanding of quieter introspection, something that makes Opeth and Steven Wilson so brilliant. At 24 minutes and change, Red Cain are on the right path, sure to drum up significant interest as the band deliver songs that contain hooks while pushing boundaries – always the best game plan for long-term appeal in this genre.” – Dead Rhetoric (2016 S/T EP)

“A strong new band in the progressive metal genre, performed with ardor and passion! ” – Lords of Metal

“Red Cain have the songs and are worthy of your time if you are seeking a new symphonic metal band.” – Get Ready To Rock

“it is powerful stuff waiting for ye that risks to blast the socks off your feet.” – Rock Music Raider

“Red Cain is another great metal band from Canada. These guys represent the progression of power and melodic heavy metal. They mix power metal sounds from around the world like Symphony X, Evergrey, Dream Theater and Kamelot and mix in a modern metal sound. ”  The Dirty Room

“The songs are well-written and structured with some pretty cool ideas that to me sound like an interesting way to blend Gothic and Progressive Metal. So, don’t be afraid to like something with the word ‘Gothic’ on it, and be aware that RED CAIN already raised the expectations for their debut EP. They will definitely be on my radar.” – Metal Kaoz  (2016 S/T EP)

“Melodic and full of creative, unforgettable moments… All the songs on this album are so well written and lyrically deep and powerful.” – Metal Nexus (2016 S/T EP)

“an eclectic mix of metals sub-genres. From progressive, cinematic, symphony along with a touch of Goth. Red Cain have produced a superb CD…They’re a band well worth supporting.” – All About The Rock  (2016 S/T EP)

“On their debut EP, Red Cain establish themselves, not only as a promising act within their musical category, but one capable of bringing in new ideas to freshen the palate of their genre.” – Musicology  (2016 S/T EP)

Born out of the emerging metal scene of Calgary, AB, RED CAIN is a modern melodic metal project with European roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and eerie ambient elements, RED CAIN champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience. Described by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, RED CAIN delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Draconian, Marilyn Manson, whipped into a venomous new shape. The current incarnation of the band is all of these influences mixed with a lot of vodka and Eastern European melancholy, shaken and stirred.

Unleashing their self-titled EP in 2016 to rave reviews, RED CAIN is returning in 2019 with their debut full length entitled “Kindred: Act I”. The album was produced by Sascha Laskow (Every Hour Kills, ex-Divinity) with the band at Perfect Filth Studios and also features vocalist Kobra Paige of  Kobra and the Lotus on their single “Wing of The Crow”.  Her work with Kobra and the Lotus needs no introduction, and when it came time to deliver the mighty yet intricate vocals for the Morrigan, the Celtic goddess of war on that track, she was their unanimous choice for the part.

The band has also already released two previous singles in 2018 “Snakebouquet” (music video here) and “Zero” (listen here)

“Kindred: Act 1” is due out March 1st, 2019 and available for pre-order here.

ALL ELSE FAILS Posts Band Playthrough ‘A Dream of Names’

New Album ‘The False Sanctuary’ Available As Pay What You Want

Canadian metallers ALL ELSE FAILS unleashed their new album ‘The False Sanctuary’ this past December. Keeping with their tradition of crushingly heavy and progressive metal, the album features 2 new songs along with 5 B-sides that were never released digitally from their critically-acclaimed 2016 full length ‘The Forever Lie’.

To follow the band’s music video for their track ‘A Dream of Names’, ALL ELSE FAILS has put together a band playthrough for the release’s lead single. The playthrough showcases the band’s technical guitar parts against melodic vocals and thought-provoking lyrics that address the current state of the world.

Watch ‘A Dream of Names’ band playthrough at https://youtu.be/M_hgmn6Uyc4

Vocalist/guitarist Barrett Klesko adds:

“In a lot of ways this album is at a state of the union address. It’s been 2 years since the release of The Forever Lie, and already the themes of financial corruption, abuse of religious power, and political scandal seem tame. I wrote this one half with a sarcastic smirk, half with a crippling sense that we are well past the point of return.”

‘The False Sanctuary’ is available on Bandcamp (pay what you want), along with stream and download on Spotify, iTunes, and all major online retailers.

BIO:

Coming out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, All Else Fails (AEF) is making a mark around the world for their aggressively dark brand of modern metal that is breaking the traditional ideals of their genre. Drawing comparisons to bands like Killswitch Engage, In Flames, and Of Mice and Men, the band infuses their metalcore sound with a variety of elements including experimental riffs, classical melodies, sporadic synth lines, and spoken word sampling to accent a unique vocal blend ranging from heavy gutturals to spine-tingling cleans.

Since first getting together in 2006 they have focused on producing a high energy live show that not only sets them apart from their peers, but has garnered them appearances on numerous festivals over the years, including the Unmaad and Alcheringa Fests In India, Vans Warped Tour, Boonstock along with opening spots for artists like Protest the Hero, Cancer Bats, Dayglo Abortions, 3 Inches of Blood, Fear Factory, Threat Signal, Decapitated, Suffocation, Trivium and Arise & Ruin.

Over their highly acclaimed career, they have released 3 EPs, 3 full lengths, and a live DVD. AEF is only gaining momentum and they are ecstatic to be adding to this impressive discography in 2018 with the full length ‘The False Sanctuary’.
