EPK – Matt Miller – Fiber Tormentum (2025) (Exitus Stratagem Records)

For fans of Necrophagist, Symphony X, Wintersun, The Faceless, Death

“I think fans will be pleasantly surprised. Especially being the first release as a full band and having vocals. I heard from many fans that they really like the instrumental music but they would also really like to hear the tracks with vocals and see the live shows with a full band. Which I completely agree with. This album features so many new elements including the heaviest, melodic, and most technical music in my catalog that has been released so far. It’s got a lot to offer for the instrumental fans as well as new fans who want to hear the music with vocals and the unique things each of these musicians is bringing to the table. I think listening to music sets the scene to tell a story. In this case I think that listeners are going to hear a lot of nuance and a wide range of emotions. Overwhelming is how I would describe it. We make music that is catchy but relentless.” – Matt Miller

“All in all, it’s a fascinating song (Effectively Neutralized) — head-spinning and heart-palpitating but also a heavy-hitter and a conjurer of strange, sinister, and haunting visions. In other words, in the space of just five minutes it pulls off a lot of impressive feats. And the well-filmed and well-edited video for it is a perfect complement, in that it shows us how all these talented performers executed all the impressive accomplishments.” – NoCleanSinging

“I am super excited. I already know this is gonna destroy. Matt Miller just absolutely destroys it on all facets. He has so many guitar techniques that he has absolutely mastered and he can literally play it all.” – Omar Rodriguez – The Metal Mixtape – YouTube Channel

“Hell yeah. Holy moly canoli. Fiverr to Fiber Momentum, and that was the album. This song is Descent into Violence. Holy moly canoli, dude. Go support, Matt Miller. That was absolutely badass. Total shredding. Jordan, also a homie of mine, your drums are incredible. The new singer, Bo, I love the harsh vocals in the clean. Total is it almost the cleans almost reminded me of Queensryche meets Cannibal Corpse. It’s pretty freaking sweet. And of course, Justice always lays down the heavy bass with the beautiful bass faces. But an absolutely incredible album….Matt Miller, you could find him everywhere. He’s an incredible guitar player, one of the best guitar players of our generation. Remember, this is Fiber Tormentum courtesy of Exitus Stratagem Records. So, a huge shout-out to them as well. Matt Miller has so many more songs. If you guys like this song (Descent into Violence), believe me, this guy is an absolute shred master. Not only does he do like a ton of his own originals, he does a ton of covers, and also he’s just a shred master of all sorts. Just exactly how they say, melodic, technical, and death. But I will definitely say the big thing that stands apart about this whole song is great structure, absolutely shredding on all levels, and the vocals are just 100% one-of-a-kind. And I totally enjoyed it. Guys, I love you guys from the bottom of my heart. This has been Matt Miller with his new song, Descent into Violence. Pick up the new album on September 12, Fiber Tormentum.” – Omar Rodriguez – The Metal Mixtape – YouTube Channel

“Soaring, crushing, ferocious, emotive, and relentless, are words that strongly describe Decrepit Shed. The album has a lot to offer from various metal sub-genres and encompasses the best elements of technical guitar playing while still having well-written songs”. – Brave Words

“Monument of Velocity” initially had a different title and was not going to be a Matt Miller release and some of the songs were written with vocals in mind and were not going to be instrumental, however, it turned out to be the sixth of seven powerful albums in his discography. contains eight tracks full of technical and progressive metal eliciting feelings of suspense, and tension while being fun, melodic and brutally heavy. Miller’s melodic and relentless music has a wide range of influences and is recommended for fans of Jeff Loomis, Necrophagist, and Obscura.” – Rock’n’ Load

“Even though Miller’s music is instrumental, he likes to think of the guitar as a voice. Which in turn makes him ask what is the guitar saying? He is able to easily convey emotion, tone, and a story even without the use of vocals. Throughout his releases, his music has developed a more modern sound in both the music and the production. Musically the songs are more well written and a lot of the ideas he writes are being accurately represented. He is always trying to push himself as a musician and this is reflected in his discography. Influenced primarily by technical and progressive death metal with a dash of power metal and symphonic metal as well, Matt Miller’s music is recommended for fans of Obscura, Dragon Force, and Racer X” – Metal Sucks

“Mr. Miller can shred like his fingers are on fire” – Ever-Metal.com

“Matt shreds all over this album with guitar solos galore”. – Transcending the Mundane

“Soaring, crushing, ferocious, and emotive, Miller conveys a wide range of tones throughout his instrumental music. It is recommended for fans of Dragon Force, Racer X, and Jeff Loomis” – Metal-Rules

“For guitar enthusiasts, I guess it is a feast for the eyes and ears.” – Antichrist Magazine

About The Album Artwork:

The album cover was made by a dear friend, Joshua Nassaru Ward. I remember talking with Josh about the overall concept of the album when I was playing guitar for a tour with his band Voraath. I had told him the loose concept of the lyrics and about human DNA being manipulated and programmed by travelers of time and space. So the face is crying out in torment as the fibers of their DNA are changed. The name for Fiber Tormentum came from a history documentary about the Roman Empire. Fiber Tormentum is the sound a Ballista makes when the ropes are tightened to launch the projectile. When I heard that, I immediately grabbed my phone and wrote it down.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

The album musically is a relentless assault. Even the clean singing parts help to up the intensity and push the soundscape to even more epic heights. The lyrics match the music in their intensity and weave a story of an advanced civilization using subtlety to control humanity.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY)

1. Descent into Violence – Lyrically, desperation and struggle against all odds. The music is intense and emotive.

2. Summoned – The travel and detailed plans of the invaders. Using astonishing acts. The music is something like a computer algorithm or an alien language.

3. Effectively Neutralized – This is the enactment of the plan and its immediate effect on humanity. Musically, this song has a lot of twists and turn,s just like a good plot.

4. Blight and Disfigurement – The devastation of our environment. Musically it has a march kind of feel and the break is super epic. Something that could be in a nature documentary about spring after a long harsh winter but in this case things are even worse.

5. Maimed Paralyzed Dead – This is about the effects on the human body and what the changes to DNA have on people. Musically it’s something out of a monster movie. Like a zombie crawling on the floor or lumbering towards its victim.

6. Horror Beyond Comprehension – Lyrically, it’s about humanity’s plea to the invaders to show mercy on them. Humanity has capitulated. Musically, it’s the sound of being completely overwhelmed.

7. Fiber Tormentum (Instrumental) – Musically it’s a snapshot of the entire album. Each section of the song is a scene from every track. From the highest highs to the lowest lows and all epic moments in between.

8. Abiotic Origin – Lyrically is the realization that humanity had brought this on themselves through their ignorance, inviting other beings to our planet without thinking they could be malevolent. However, hope is not lost just yet. Musically, it’s an epic track that has some really powerful sections, including the outro.

Fun Facts – StoryAngles:

1: Everytime vocals were done in one take Biko channeled his inner Murderface for a resounding quote “One take Willy” It’s hidden in one song if you listen closely.

2: Vocal tracking was done between Biko’s filming of the Discovery Channel show Expedition Bigfoot.

3: We ate Subway every day after tracking and they gave us our own table in the dining room as we became regular customers on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8 pm.

4: This is a concept album with influence from the negative effects that COVID-19 had on society.

5: We tried to record samples and track them with high-end pianos and a harp using a portable recording rig. We were asked to leave and banned from multiple stores. On one occasion, they knew us before we had a chance to set up the mics.

Akademia-Award-winning producer, engineer, and songwriter MATT MILLER side-steps these industry achievements to embark on something deeply introspective and personal; a transcendent, reactionary, and vile personage embodying soaring progressive melodies and captivating crushing rhythms that engulf the listener in black clouds of desperation and shimmering hope.

Drawing upon the gut-wrenching timed-precision of European death metal stalwarts NECROPHAGIST and SPAWN OF POSSESSION, MATT MILLER progressively blends this approach with deep synthetic and symphonic atmospheres like that of DEVIN TOWNSEND, often arriving at surprisingly emotive and heart-clenching metallic passages like that of RIVERS OF NIHIL.

Calling upon other single-member death metal projects such as PUTRID PILE or INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY, the live performance can best be described as a reclaiming and repainting of the earth by a relentlessly sweeping and deranged berzerker appealing to the vast minions of extreme music.  The combination of elements within MATT MILLER distills the traditions of the international metal realm, the progressive atmospheres of modernity, and reactions to a vile world into a single unrelenting persona of despair and vengeance.

MATT MILLER’s first self-produced instrumental EP came in 2017, drawing on influences from classic metal bands such as MEGADETH and IRON MAIDEN to shredders like YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and PAUL GILBERT, while combining a technical death metal approach to create maximum-intensity music with a frenetic and frantic feel and ferocious atmosphere.  Since then, and a few releases into this brief career, MATT MILLER boasts 12,000 consistent monthly listeners on Spotify before hitting the international touring circuit.  This was garnered from his 2017 EP, the 2021 self-released ‘Decrepit Shed’ LP, the ‘Reekomposer/Decomposer’ covers double LP, as well as the ‘8E’s’ 1980’s themed covers LP.

In 2022 Matt released the formidable original instrumental LP Monument of Velocity on Blood Blast Distribution. Matt also toured supporting Rings of Saturn on the CYBER SHRED TOUR 2022. 29 shows encompassing the continental United States. Matt has released the cover LP Only What the Light Allows through Blood Blast Distribution.

In 2023, Matt assembled a full band consisting of drummer Jordan Kelso and bassist Justice Robinett, both of whom are world-class musicians. Soon after, Matt headed to Europe in support of death metal pioneers Possessed on their Oblivion Over Europe Tour. In 2024, Matt began writing a new instrumental LP. After completing the demos, it became abundantly clear that the new record required vocals. Thus vocalist Biko Wright entered the fray, and the end result became the new LP Fiber Tormentum. Fiber Tormentum is a step forward and makes the bold statement that nothing will stop Matt from his campaign of musical devastation.

Matt Miller hails from the rain soaked northern Oregon Coast; influenced by the natural foreboding environment.  Moving into the present, MATT MILLER has joined up with Extreme Management Group to spread a singularly relentless auditory mind-bend.

August 22nd and 23rd at The Pearl on Main in Midvale, Utah

GrillFest’25 – Festival Spotify Playlist – https://bit.ly/4knzlcR

GrillFest has been resurrected since making a name for itself on the local scene in Midvale and Salt Lake City, Utah, in the early 2010s, with the last one being held in 2013. Founded by John Yelland of Judicator as a backyard festival that was organized by his first band, Disforia, GrillFest is being revitalized. Supported by Judicator and the City of Midvale, and the Midvale Main Business Alliance. This year’s 2025 event will shut down Main Street and transform it into a full-scale festival. Local businesses will host pop-ups, and they’re curating a lineup of vendors offering savory food, desserts, and more. And of course, the music will remain diverse, dynamic, and electrifying as GrillFest’s 2025 lineup features Judicator, Advent Horizon, Silver Talon, Michael Barrow & The Tourists, Seizure, Celestial Wizard, Arsenic Addiction, Viperwitch, Storm Haven, DiseNgaged, Hisingen, and Moon Wizard.

Being hosted on August 22nd and 23rd at The Pearl on Main in Midvale, Utah, Grillfest ’25 is more than just an event—it’s a rekindling of something special. It’s a gathering for artists and fans who crave authenticity, connection, and experiences to cherish for the rest of their lives.

“Grillfest isn’t just another music festival—it’s a community movement built by fans—for fans. We’re bringing together some of the best underground metal acts from across the West, pairing them with real smokehouse BBQ and a no-frills, all-heart atmosphere. Our goal is to grow something truly special here in Utah: a boutique-style festival that stays loud, stays local, and gives both rising bands and dedicated fans a place to call home,” adds John Yelland, Founder of Grillfest and Vocalist of Judicator.

About The Headliners:

Judicator isn’t just a power metal band — it’s a reckoning with history and mortality, plumbing the depths of the human condition one album at a time.

Since their serendipitous formation in 2012, when singer John Yelland and guitarist Alicia Cordisco (ex-Judicator, Transgressive) crossed paths at a Blind Guardian concert, the band has been on a relentless journey to craft concept albums that confront existential anxiety in its many forms. From character studies of historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and Frederick the Great, to the deeply personal At the Expense of Humanity, which recounts Yelland’s experience losing his brother to cancer, Judicator brings history and humanity into sharp focus.

Rooted in Salt Lake City, Judicator has produced six albums over the course of a decade, with their latest opus, Concord, set to release in early 2025. The band’s blend of thought-provoking lyrics, memorable riffs, and charismatic energy has earned them a loyal following and some surreal milestones, like featuring Hansi Kürsch as a guest vocalist on 2018’s The Last Emperor and opening for Blind Guardian in Salt Lake City during the God Machine North American tour in 2024.

While co-founding member Alicia Cordisco departed in 2020, her legacy remains an integral part of Judicator’s DNA. Today, the band continues to push boundaries as a five-piece power metal powerhouse, weaving tales that are as epic as they are intimate.

Judicator’s music seeks to hold a mirror up to life’s greatest struggles and triumphs, whether great or small, whether grand historical sagas or intimate struggles with mortality. Judicator invites you to grapple with the inevitable, together, one song at a time.

USA-based prog rockers Advent Horizon are making waves in the progressive music world and beyond after the release of their new album “A Cell To Call Home.”

Featuring guest performances from Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Dave Meros (Spock’s Beard), Randy McStine (Porcupine Tree), and Jared Hill (Snow Child), plus album and single artwork by Travis Smith (Opeth, Devin Townsend), “A Cell To Call Home” has received high praise internationally from fans and reviewers alike. ProgRadio named “A Cell To Call Home” their 2023 “Album of the year”, while ProgReport and Sonic Perspectives ranked it at #5 and #4 respectively on their “Best of 2023” lists.

Much of 2024 was spent on the road, with performances across the USA. At Progstock in October 2024, “A Cell To Call Home” was performed live in its entirety and was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from festival attendees and multiple press outlets, with one reviewer writing, “something about this act really felt unusually magical.”

Following the success of their 2024 live appearances, Advent Horizon has returned to the studio, and is currently recording their 4th full-length studio album, which features a side-long 20-minute epic track, and 5 other heavy-hitting progressive rock/metal songs.

Silver Talon emerged from the remnants of the Portland heavy metal group Spellcaster after their disbandment in 2017. Seeking a sonic identity that was heavier and more aggressive, guitarist Bryce VanHoosen spearheaded the project and enlisted vocalist Wyatt Howell. Howell’s addition refined Silver Talon’s identity, setting the band distinctly apart from its predecessor. By late 2018, the band released their acclaimed debut EP, ‘Becoming A Demon.’

This release encapsulated the band’s uncompromising, raw-edged sound across five original tracks. Notably, it featured a collaboration with Jeff Loomis (Arch Enemy / Nevermore), who delivered a scorching guitar solo for a cover of Sanctuary’s cult classic, ‘Battle Angels.’ Despite a few lineup changes, the band navigated a tumultuous 2019, ultimately solidifying their lineup with guitarist Devon Miller and bassist Walter Hartzell, enhancing their power and versatility.

Throughout the 2020 pandemic, Silver Talon remained focused and productive, culminating in the release of ‘Deceiver, I Am,’ the lead single off their debut album ‘Decadence and Decay,’ in early December. This marked a new phase for the band, showcasing deeper arrangements, an expansive sound, and intricate musical layering.

In May of 2021, the full debut album ‘Decadence and Decay’ dropped, earning rave reviews and securing spots on both Decibel Magazine and Bandcamp’s top metal albums of the year lists. No Clean Singing praised the band’s songwriting and technical prowess, stating, “it’s the band’s songwriting (coupled with their obvious artistic abilities and technical talents) which really makes this record stand out from the crowd.” The album even boasted a collaboration with King Diamond’s main axeman, Andy La Rocque, on the track ‘Resistance 2029.’

The post-pandemic era brought touring opportunities in support of ‘Decadence and Decay,’ including appearances at Hell’s Heroes and Legions of Metal festivals, alongside shows across the United States with metal legends such as Cynic, Atheist, and Exmortus.

As 2023 unfolds, the band is diligently crafting their sophomore album, scheduled for release on M-Theory Audio.

Silver Talon’s music blends a brooding and dark approach to heavy metal with classic influences, paying homage to revered acts like King Diamond, Nevermore, Savatage, Judas Priest, and Alice in Chains, among others.

Please note: Main Street in front of the festival will be cordoned off, however, and so there will be a level of foot traffic—attendees who are only interested in the local business pop-ups, food trucks, and so on, but not the performances, which take place inside the venue.

About GrillFest:

GrillFest began humbly in the early 2010s as a backyard festival organized by John Yelland’s first band, Disforia. Held at their bassist’s house, it was a laid-back, community-driven celebration of local music, friendship, and grilling. They invited fellow bands of all styles—metal, punk, acoustic, death metal—and played from noon until noise curfew! There were no genre boundaries, no egos—just artists, fans, and neighbors coming together in an atmosphere that felt more like a family reunion than a festival.

As the years passed and life took them in different directions, Disforia disbanded, and the original Grillfest faded into memory. But its spirit never left John. That sense of connection, creativity, and grassroots joy is something he carried with him, and now, he is thrilled to bring it back in 2025.

About The Organizers:

John Yelland is the powerhouse frontman of Salt Lake City’s acclaimed power metal band Judicator, known for his soaring vocals and emotionally rich storytelling across seven studio albums. He’s also the voice of the epic doom project Behölder, and formerly of sci-fi power metal act Dire Peril. With collaborations ranging from Blind Guardian’s Hansi Kürsch to his genre-bending concept albums, Yelland is one of the most distinctive voices in modern metal. This year, he brings that fire home to Grillfest, joining a lineup built by and for foodies who love chill vibes and good music.

EPK – Visitant – Rubidium (2025) (Exitus Stratagem Records)

Publicist – Jon Asher – exsr[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

Band: Visitant
Album Title: Rubidium
Label: Exitus Stratagem Records
Release Date: August 22, 2025

“We are hoping it is received positively. There are so many dynamic moments that grab you. We hope it resonates with people for years to come. We ultimately want this to take you on a journey. A story through sounds. If we can take people away from their woes through our music, we will consider it a success.” – Visitant

Tony: Imagine Dimmu and UADA being smashed together like action figures during recess.

Kilian: “This record, I think, threads the needle, blending a lot of different genres. But yes, imagine a bunch of metal bands as action figures in the best super smash bros type of way.”

Taylor: While the genre bending is ever present, the release as a whole works cohesively, every part making up a piece to the puzzle.

Chelsea: I really do think it’s genre-bending as well. I really didn’t actively approach it with that in mind, but I went for what I felt each part needed or made me feel. It was a freeing experience. I was hoping we could create something that was impactful. I think we did that. After you listen to the album from beginning to end, you feel like you were just on the biggest journey. It evokes all sorts of feels. Like damn.. I feel like I was audibly hit by a big ol bus. In a good way… if there was a good way!

“Visitant is here to utterly wreck your morning thanks to their brand new single “Fodder”, the first offering from their upcoming album Rubidium due out on August 23 via Exitus Stratagem Records. Visitant is vocalist Chelsea Marrow (Voraath, The Monster Factory, Doom Eternal, Hellblade 2, etc.), guitarist Taylor Tidwell, drummer Anthony Lusk-Simone (Abiotic, Lattermath & ex-Pathogenic), and bassist Kilian Duarte (Abiotic, Lattermath, Felix Martin & Scale The Summit). So a real powerhouse of a band that brings some savage energy to the metal world.” – Metal Injection

“Visitant introduce the song (Starless) with subdued classical strings and rippling piano keys which together create a sorrowful but entrancing mood. The gentle nature of that overture makes the sudden crash that follows it even more startling — a sudden attack of slashing and sizzling fretwork, gargantuan bass-moans, neck-cracking beats, savage roars, and scorching screams. The song continues to bring in classically influenced piano melodies coupled with vividly dancing guitars, creating an almost diabolical kind of elegance, but the song also ignites a blackened firestorm of blasting drums, delirious fretwork, and sweeping symphonics. The notes vibrantly dart and blaze as the rhythm section thunder, and the music both elevates to heights of daunting, haughty grandeur and sweeps like wildfire. The torrid and tormented vocals seem to hold nothing back, howling and screaming out on the bleeding edge of intensity, and as if the song couldn’t get any more extravagant, the band make room for a head-spinning guitar solo at the end, in the midst of lots of other equally head-spinning fretwork and rhythm-section spectacles.” – No Clean Singing

““Fodder“, presents different warps and wefts in its weave. Also presented through a video (this time we get to see the band perform), it was inspired by a very dark dream in which Chelsea attempted to bring a murdered friend back to life and lost her own life in the process, leaving the friend trapped in a hellish limbo, bound to a body over which their control had been lost to dark spirits. To be sure, this song is also musically extravagant. It features a lot of borderline deranged and technically demanding high-speed maneuvers (a tour de force that would make lots of tech-death bands jealous) but it’s also hallucinatory, and unhinged in many other respects. It further demonstrates that Chelsea Marrow can really sing, as well as howl like a wolf and scream like a goblin. It’s a highly theatrical experience, but also instrumentally kaleidoscopic and viscerally frightening, and the singing makes the song stand out as much as every other demented and dazzling aspect of it.” – No Clean Singing

“Emerging from the shadowy fringes of the metal scene, blackened death metal outfit Visitant has unleashed their riveting debut single, “Fodder.” Released as a precursor to their eagerly anticipated first full-length album, “Rubidium,” the track invites listeners into a deeply atmospheric yet punishing sonic landscape.” – See Rock Live Magazine

“Uniting seasoned musicians from the Extreme Metal underground scene with members known for their previous works in Abiotic, Scale the Summit, Unaligned and Voraath, Blackened Death Metal quartet Visitant have spent the better part of three years crafting a debut album. The promise is of something dark, beautiful, visceral and compelling with single “Fodder” an almost ritualistic journey that weaves ethereal elements into an unrelentingly aggressive soundscape. Turning personal experiences into ghost stories for the half an hour of power that is “Rubidium” caught the attention of Exitus Stratagem Records who will distribute the affair on 29th August.” – Metal Noise

“Visitant weaves ethereal elements into a soundscape that is as haunting as it is aggressive. Lyrically and musically, the band crafts immersive dreamscapes – ritualistic and unrelenting” DNA Entertainment

“Visitant by all accounts has an amazing lineup composing music for the project ” – Metal Purgatory

About The Album Artwork:

The model was my friend, Aria. To me it resembles facing immortality. Something that haunts you throughout your time on this earth. As vivid as the red.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Rubidium was sort of like shadow work for us.  I feel like all of our albums will be like that. Embodying the bleakest parts of being human. Grief, loss, betrayal, vengeance, time lost, regret.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1) Unworldly – Lyrically, this song expresses the overall theme of the album. We are haunted by the loss of time and the inescapable fact that everything is temporary. The visual I had while writing this song was that of a time-traveling man. Escaping the shell of what his old self used to be. He was trying to get to his younger self. His Time Machine had broken down. He was trapped in a limbo where he could see his old body in post-stroke form. And he could also see the young version. Almost like looking through aquarium glass. Stuck in a purgatory, watching a dream state for eternity. ** Musically it sounds like.. If Danny Elfman had a tea party with the Jackal from 13th Ghost. It was the first song we wrote for the album. We wanted to bring the bleakness with this track. Chelsea and Taylor had just split with their prior project and wanted this to come more into focus. We took what we thought were the best attributes of our first single and amped up as much as we could, adding a more progressive sound and speeding things up. Then Tony made the beautiful orchestrations that are throughout the track, and Killian laid down the base, which added all the beef

2) Briars – This one is a story of a man who doesn’t realize he’s died immediately. As he figures it out, he pleads that it wasn’t his time yet.. and as his pleads are not heard..he realizes that there is no god in the afterlife..no matter how big of a name you were.. or how much work you put into something, you’ll be forgotten in the end. I envisioned him being confined to a house.. his own home..  And the people.. even strangers coming and going in a time lapse as the house disintegrates around him.  He just wants to be home. He’ll never have that again. Musically, this song was born very organically. The beginning of the composition came from a writing session between Taylor and Chelsea, from which the main riffs came. We wanted to make a very crushing and somber song with a bit of technicality, but overall, with an emphasis on the atmosphere. We wanted the song to have a lot of twists and turns and be as exciting as possible. We really wanted this one to grab you.

3) Starless: Starless lyrically is about self-preservation and protection,  in a way. It embraces dark femininity. It’s about burying the darkest parts of you, letting them fester and unleashing it unto all who have hurt you while building walls shutting out the world. It evokes the embodiment of wrath and vengeance. It speaks from grief in the angry stage. It’s probably the darkest song on this album, I feel. Spiritually and musically. Starless was another song that was musically born in a very organic way. It was made during a writing session, and we pretty much wrote the bulk of the song at one time. This one we wanted it to be in your face and heavy, and compelling. The song was born naturally, and we think you can hear that in the song. This one, too, has a very bleak and somber atmosphere to it. We wanted to convey the pain.

4) Rubidium: Rubidium lyrically is about this deity or titan that lures humans to feed into the earth’s soil to keep forests alive. It must survive on human souls and tissue. In my mind, even the trees have human-like faces in their trunks. Almost organic enough to not notice, but so frequent in each tree that it’s hard not to. The people’s minds are washed of any humanistic qualities. All bow and lower to their knees to be absorbed by the sour soil. Musically speaking, the start of this song came from Taylor, who often times imagines animals or colors when writing music, decided he wanted to write a song that reminded him of a serpent. We wanted this song to slither into your ear and stay with you. This is one of the heavier tracks on the album and one of the more progressive songs.

5) Fodder: This song, lyrically, was written from a really dark dream. In the dream, I was wandering through the dark, I found a stone cottage with an altar in the center. It had a fireplace or hearth that was also stone and falling apart. Centuries old. I noticed a smell. Rot and decay. I look towards the hearth and I notice dripping. It was blood. I gather courage and peer into it. My friend, in the dream, had been murdered and his body had been shoved into the fireplace. A book appeared on the altar. Even though my ancestors warned me a thousand times over not to attempt to bring the dead back to life, I attempted anyway. Needless to say,  the outcome was atrocious, and I lost my own life in the process. And my friend was stuck in this hellish limbo, existing in this body that no longer served him. The spirits from the darkest realms have taken over physicalities, as my friend was trapped to watch from the inside of the vessel with no control of his physical form.

In real time, this friend of mine killed himself years ago. I often wonder if it was just my mind processing it in a different way. How could he take his own life. It must have been someone else…

Musically, this song is so powerful. I feel like this captures our abilities so well, which is why we chose this as our first single. It’s just hard-hitting from the get-go, but still so melodic and feral. Musically, Fodder is a song that comes out swinging from the gate, heavy, punchy, dissonant, and groove-driven driven all the while retaining melody and a hook.

6) Envies Lament: Lyrically, this song touches base on sleep paralysis dreams, loss, and wanting life to end. When I first moved back to Pensacola, I was staying in my grandparents’ house. My grandfather passed away in this house. I began having those sorts of dreams a lot. I couldn’t see the figure, but in the dream, of course, I couldn’t move, but I felt the presence of a hand in mine. Another night of these dreams, the hand was that of a child’s. It just got weirder and weirder. I absolutely believe there was something attempting to get my attention there. The song delves into more personal experiences I’d like to keep to myself. I just didn’t want to be on this planet. It was a form of goodbye. I don’t feel that way so much these days.. I really hold on to life so intently. I know it is short.  And I am so grateful to be here and with my bandmates. Musically, this track musically feels like you’re overcoming sorrow. It starts out big and sorrowful, and quickly picks up the pace with more thrash, driven parts, and hence back-and-forth at the sadness throughout, but ultimately it feels triumphant.

7) Moonbathe: This one doesn’t have lyrics. Just ambient, powerful vocals, and crushing yet epic guitar/bass parts and orchestrations. It takes you on a journey that is quite different than the rest of the album. It feels like it’s a resolution. The feeling that’s there after experiencing stages of grief. The journey continues even still. *Rides off into the sunset.” Our drummer/engineer, Anthony Lusk-Simone, said it sounds like.. “If Opeth got lost in the desert,” musically, this song was intended to be an intro or an interlude, but we liked it so much we turned it into a full song. We wanted the end to have this big, beautiful, sprawling soundscape to it.

===============================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1) Half of us live in Massachusetts, and the other half live in Pensacola. It’s been a revisited question of how we are able to make it work. I fly to MA as often as I can to record and hang out with Tony and Kilian. In the future, Taylor and I both plan to fly to MA to write. As far as live performances, we have stand-ins if any of us is unable to make it.

2) Overall concept of the band, we “create a haunting dreamscape, wrought for the embodiment of restless and vengeful spirits”

“Deep is the heart.. Forged in the mire”

3) We recorded layers of vocals throughout the album on a Disney Princess mic. It created really cool lo-fi tones. Gritty as hell with harsh vocals

4) Our drummer, Tony, engineers and creates orchestrations for our music. He and I have also tag-teamed the videography so far. We brainstorm video concepts and visuals together.

5) Kilian our bass player when he first heard the music and concepts “ oh thank god . we have fucking choruses” or something to that extent. Emphasising the lack of hooks, melodies, and return to ideas in a lot of metal music. We like the idea of creating something that not just musicians can appreciate.. Something that is relatable to all. Something that can bring you to a different world, mentally, while retaining interest throughout. It’s a story. Told from beyond. At least we envision it that way.

Blackened Death Metal Collective VISITANT Unleashes Haunting Single “Fodder” From Debut Album “Rubidium” Out Aug 2025

Blackened death metal newcomers Visitant emerge from the shadows with their single “Fodder”, a 4:37 ritualistic journey that showcases the band’s ability to weave ethereal elements into an unrelentingly aggressive soundscape. The track arrives with an accompanying music video, marking the first glimpse into the band’s immersive dreamscapes. The band comments on the track:

“This song, lyrically, was written from a really dark dream. Musically, this song is so powerful. We feel like this captures our abilities so well, which is why we chose this as our first single. It’s just hard-hitting from the get-go, but still so melodic and feral. Fodder is a song that comes out swinging from the gate heavy, punchy, dissonant, and groove-driven, all the while retaining melody and a hook.”

Formed in February 2022 by founding members Taylor Tidwell (guitar) and Chelsea Marrow (vocals), Visitant crafts music that channels the essence of restless, vengeful spirits. The band’s lineup features seasoned musicians from the extreme metal underground: Anthony Lusk-Simone (drums/orchestration) from Abiotic and Lattermath, Kilian Duarte (bass) from Abiotic and Scale the Summit, Taylor Tidwell from Unaligned, and Chelsea Marrow from Voraath, whose vocal work has also been featured in acclaimed video games including DOOM ETERNAL and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Formed out of necessity, Chelsea and Taylor were itching to create something new, visceral, and compelling. They wanted it to be dark, but beautiful, and “Fodder” embodies that vision perfectly. The single serves as the first taste from Visitant‘s highly anticipated debut album “Rubidium”, set for release on August 22, 2025, via Exitus Stratagem Records. The track exemplifies the band’s approach to turning personal experiences into ghost stories, creating what they describe as ‘epic, moving, bleak, beautiful, and uncompromising’ music.

For fans of Gojira, Opeth, and Naglfar, Visitant offers a visceral experience that transcends genre boundaries, building immersive worlds through their unique blend of brutality and beauty.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 25, 2025

One Band To Conquer Them All! MOURNING HIGH Wins WACKEN METAL BATTLE USA 2025 To Play Wacken Open Air!

One Band To Conquer Them All! The final six bands from this year’s 2025 battles for Wacken Metal Battle USA gathered in Clifton, NJ, for the national final on June 21st at Dingbatz. Only one unsigned American band can walk away and be crowned champion to move on to perform at one of the world’s most prestigious and largest already sold-out metal festivals, Wacken Open Air (July 30th – August 2nd) (Attendance of over 80,000 people in Wacken, Germany for over 30 years).

Conquering the crown as this year’s 2025 national champion is Southern California and Arizona-based MOURNING HIGH (West Coast Winner), who, after their performance, a panel of industry judges that included Jeff Buttermark (FM Management), Shawn Quinn (Napalm Records/FM Management) and Rob Caggiano (ex-Anthrax/ex-Volbeat), voted as the USA’s top band to play at the International Wacken Battle at Wacken Open Air. They performed alongside PRIME PROPHECY (New Jersey Winner), WHAT’S WRONG (Pacific Northwest Winner), PONTIFEX (Florida Winner), FIREHAZE (East Coast Winner), and BROKEN TIME (Texas Winner).

“Thank you to all the bands for making this a spectacular battle in 2025. Big congrats to all the bands who made it to the National Final. I’m always blown away by the talent we have here in the US. Thank you to our media partners. Especially BraveWords, Metal-Rules, and DEAN Guitars. Special thanks to Jon Asher at Asher Media Relations. Finally, a huge thank you to all the supporters who bought tickets to the Battles. We can’t do this without you!

I also like to add that I want to congratulate Mourning High for their impressive run that ultimately led to representing the United States in the Battle at the Holy Ground. This is a young and energetic band that defines grit and hard work. With members living in Coachella Valley and one member living in Arizona, it is quite impressive to see their devoted fan base follow them to Orange County, San Diego, and then Clifton, New Jersey. If you are unaware of Coachella Valley, let me fill you in. There is no metal scene. There are only Casinos, Coachella Music Fest (no thank you), and the American Hockey League affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. These boys and their fans have to travel. And now they travel to Wacken Open Air!” comments WMBU national organizer Eric Dow.

Mourning High comments on their win:

“The band is so thankful that we met Eric and the Wacken Metal Battle team on the West Coast and in the USA. We were blown away at the professionalism and expertise of the judges at all of the battles, as well as the other talented bands we played with at each stage of the competition. We are proud of our hard work and so thankful that we have fans who have supported us on this journey. We have been manifesting playing in Europe for more than two years, and finally our hard work has paid off. This wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Wacken team, fans, and our crew. It’s time to get rowdy in Germany.”

The 2025 WMBU champion will receive the following:
– A slot at the 2025 Wacken Open Air Festival.
– Full professional backline provided.
– $1,000 USD towards flights to Germany.
– VIP camping at the festival.

FireHaze is a Cuban-American metal band known for blending melodic death and thrash metal with groove and core influences. The band was formed in 2009 by three Cuban musicians—Yunior, Carlos, and Hector—who had migrated to West New York, New Jersey.

The story began in 2007 when Yunior arrived from Havana and sought out fellow musicians to form a band. He connected with Carlos, a guitarist from Bayamo, and later with Hector, a drummer who had also recently moved from Havana. Their chemistry was immediate, and after experimenting with different sounds and names—including a brief stint as “Illuminated By The Fire”—they officially became FireHaze during a jam session on a hot August night overlooking the New York City skyline.

From the start, FireHaze aimed to stand out. They incorporated unusual percussion and string instruments, and often collaborated with guest musicians to shape their live sound. Their influences include heavyweights like Lamb of God, Dimmu Borgir, Sepultura, Megadeth, and Children of Bodom.

Though unsigned, FireHaze has remained active in the North Jersey and New York metal scenes, performing live and working toward a full-length album. They proudly identify as a Cuban-American band, rooted in their heritage while forging a path in the U.S. metal underground.

Mourning High is a rising thrash metal band that hails from Southern California and Arizona. Formed in 2023, the band quickly gained traction through social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, where their raw energy and nostalgic thrash sound struck a chord with fans of classic metal.

Their music is heavily influenced by legendary acts like Megadeth, and they’ve been praised for bringing back the gritty, high-octane spirit of 1980s thrash. What sets Mourning High apart is not just their sound, but their chemistry—these guys have been friends since preschool, and that bond fuels their performances and touring life.

They’re currently unsigned and independent, but their momentum is undeniable. With over 50,000 followers on TikTok and a growing fanbase across streaming platforms, Mourning High is carving out a name for itself in the modern metal scene.

Pontifex is a symphonic black/death metal band based in Orlando, Florida, formed in 2024. Known for their theatrical soundscapes and intense live performances, they blend the ferocity of black metal with symphonic elements, creating a dark, cinematic experience.

The band was founded by guitarist and flutist Kaleb Daniels, whose classical training and love for extreme metal shaped Pontifex’s unique sound. Despite being relatively new, they’ve already made waves by winning the Florida Wacken Battle, earning them a spot on the radar of metal fans nationwide.

Pontifex is currently unsigned but gaining momentum with an upcoming album titled Covenant, set to release in Fall 2025. Their music explores themes of mysticism, inner conflict, and spiritual decay, often delivered through layered instrumentation and haunting melodies.

Prime Prophecy is a six-piece progressive metal band based in Brooklyn, New York, blending European influences with symphonic, melodic, and modern metal elements. Known for emotionally driven soundscapes and vivid storytelling, the band creates music that resonates with both heart and mind, bridging genres and pushing the boundaries of contemporary metal.

Drawing from real-life experiences and deep introspection, Prime Prophecy’s signature sound combines layered arrangements, intricate lyrics, and powerful melodies that invite listeners to explore the human experience from new angles.

Over the course of two decades, Prime Prophecy has earned a reputation for both studio excellence and high-impact live performances. Their visual storytelling comes to life through music videos such as “End of the Beginning” and “Memories From the Past.” In 2011, their single “Viking”—commissioned for heavyweight boxer Mariusz Wach ahead of his world title fight—highlighted the band’s versatility and cultural reach.

2025 marks Prime Prophecy’s 20th anniversary—a milestone celebrating their creative evolution and lasting impact on the metal scene. Career highlights include a finals appearance at the Emergenza Festival (Webster Hall, NYC), and a strong run through the 2024 Wacken Battle of the Bands, where the band earned second place in the U.S. National Finals.

Looking ahead, Prime Prophecy is preparing to compete once again in Wacken Battle 2025, with the opportunity to take the stage at Germany’s legendary Wacken Open Air Festival.

Fueled by passion, innovation, and a relentless drive to connect, Prime Prophecy continues to forge new paths with a progressive, symphonic, and deeply human approach to metal.

About WMBU:

For the last 6 years of battles (2017-2019, 2022, 2023, 2024), Wacken Metal Battle USA has hosted battles across the country to send one independent metal band to perform at the world’s largest metal festival, Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. 2019 saw the festival celebrate its 30th anniversary, but due to COVID, the 2020 and 2021 editions were both canceled. As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2025 will be the 34th edition of the festival and will be held from July 30th – August 2nd. The 2025 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Machine Head, Saltatio Mortis, Papa Roach, Gojira, Apocalyptica, Saxon, Within Temptation, Dimmu Borgir, Ministry, and many more. Details here.

Wacken Metal Battle USA is part of an international competition that sees bands from across the country battle each other for the chance to win their spot among 30 other countries’ champions, and represent the USA in an international battle of the bands at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival: Wacken Open Air. The battles have been hosted at the festival for over a decade and give independent bands the opportunity to showcase their talents to an international audience, along with the chance to win multiple prizes.

How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter, where one band will move forward to the American national final (date and city to be determined). The winner of the national final will move on to perform at the Wacken Open Air 2024 and compete against the winners of 30 other countries in a final global battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.

Matt Miller, the acclaimed technical death metal virtuoso, has released his first single, “Descent into Violence. ” The song offers a powerful glimpse into the sonic landscape of his seventh album, “Fiber Tormentum,” which will be released on September 12, 2025, via Exitus Stratagem Records.

Driven by explosive instrumentation and guttural passion, “Descent into Violence” is more than just a song—it’s a visceral experience. Lyrically, the track explores themes of desperation and survival, painting the picture of a soul teetering on the edge and fighting to stay alive in a world stacked against them. It’s a cry from the depths, echoing the struggles many face but few can articulate.

This single marks a significant evolution in Miller’s musical journey, transitioning from his previous instrumental works to a full-band composition. Joining him on this project are Jordan Kelso (Drums, Synth), Justice Robinett (Bass), and Biko Wright (Vocals), each bringing unique elements that enrich the album’s dynamic sound.

Miller reflects, “It’s got a lot to offer for the instrumental fans as well as new fans who want to hear the music with vocals and the unique things each of these musicians is bringing to the table.”

Lyrically, “Fiber Tormentum” unfolds as a conceptual narrative, drawing inspiration from science fiction themes. The album envisions a scenario where extraterrestrial forces manipulate human DNA to subjugate humanity, blending speculative fiction with real-world anxieties. The album’s artwork, created by the late Joshua Nassaru Ward of Voraath, adds a poignant visual dimension to the project’s thematic depth..

Fans can anticipate a blend of technical precision and emotive storytelling, influenced by death metal pioneers like Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession and the atmospheric depth of artists such as Devin Townsend and Rivers of Nihil.

“Soaring, crushing, ferocious, emotive, and relentless, are words that strongly describe Decrepit Shed. The album has a lot to offer from various metal sub-genres and encompasses the best elements of technical guitar playing while still having well-written songs”. – Brave Words

“Monument of Velocity” initially had a different title and was not going to be a Matt Miller release and some of the songs were written with vocals in mind and were not going to be instrumental, however it turned out to be the sixth of seven powerful albums in his discography. contains eight tracks full of technical and progressive metal eliciting feelings of suspense, and tension while being fun, melodic and brutally heavy.

“Mr. Miller can shred like his fingers are on fire” Ever-Metal.com

KRATORNAS Ignites Chaos With “Ravaged by Hurakaan” Lyric Video

New Album “God Of The Tribes” Out Aug 2025

Kratornas has released the official lyric video for “Ravaged by Hurakaan”, the third track from the upcoming full-length album “God of the Tribes”, set for release on August 22, 2025, through Grathila Records. Following the successful limited releases of the “Ravaged by Hurakaan” vinyl demo and remix cassette last month, this lyric video presents the full album version of the track for the first time. At seven minutes, the song demonstrates the new direction Kratornas has taken, focusing on atmosphere, tension, and ritualistic elements rather than the blistering speed of earlier works. Kratornas comments on the single:

“This album marks a turning point for Kratornas. The first 15 years were deprived years. Not of ideas, but of the equipment to record them. That’s why I was stuck with simplicity, but it was never the plan. Now I have everything I need to get THAT sound. This album isn’t about being ‘advanced’ or ‘innovative’, it’s a return to roots, distilled into something raw and real.”

The lyric video offers fans their first look at the complete lyrics, which have been described as ‘thick with metaphors, open to many interpretations’. The creator cautions that the words incorporated into the ritualistic chants throughout the album are deliberately crafted to provoke strong psychological responses.

The video’s visual aesthetics complement the apocalyptic themes that have defined Kratornas‘ work since 1999, when the project shifted from its early Satanic themes to ‘doomsday predictions’ that have remained a consistent inspiration. “Ravaged by Hurakaan” serves as a perfect introduction to “God of the Tribes”, showcasing the project’s new sonic approach while maintaining the intensity that has defined Kratornas for nearly three decades. It is recommended for anyone who enjoys black metal.

“I think it’s a good thing that it is a bit darker for music this intense and with so much “action” in the upper midrange – Dan Swano (on mastering God of the Tribes)

“Kratornas has returned and have taken large steps in progression with their musical maelstrom of violence.” – Canadian Assault (2017 – Human Livestock 7″ EP)

“What’s even better is that the music doesn’t just move in the sense that a rocket moves. The songs are more than sheer exultations in the thrill of speed and violence. They also change course. They veer into hammering grooves; they bolt into bursts of blood-pumping thrash riffing; they pulse like some kind of laser weapon being triggered. Yes, the songs are often deranged — when Kratornas is in full grind mode, you can imagine oceans of blood spray ejected from a fire hose and bodies being atomized in a frenzied butchery — but there’s impressive intricacy and dynamism in the songs, as well as jaw-dropping technical skill and manifest blood lust.” – No Clean Singing (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“If you like chaotic, blasting Black Metal, then this is a good bet.” (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“This album is intense. From start to finish Kratornas is absolutely relentless and have put together one hell of an album with a whole lot of everything in the mix without sounding repetitive.” – Metal At The Gates (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

“While its – drum and guitar/voice – format might suggest similarities with the Inquisition, in sound terms are two quite distinct entities. Here there is a greater degree of chaos and a greater departure from the traditional scene (second wave of black metal) than the one we can find ourselves in Inquisition. Basically it is what would happen if we join powerviolence with black metal. It is something that impresses, without a doubt, but that may have a tendency to tire. Fortunately this does not happen much here because all the themes end up having healthy dynamics, mainly a healthy rib of primitive death metal ( plus an element to join the party) and mainly a solo guitar taken from the breca that looks like a bouncing diabolite. Awesome and surprising album.” – World of Metal Mag (2016 – Devoured by Damnation LP)

SECRET RULE Launches New Music Video “Echoes Of The Earth” Off Upcoming 10th Studio Album “X”

Rockshots Records and Secret Rule are excited to announce the release of the band’s new single “Echoes Of The Earth,” accompanied by a music video and available on all digital platforms starting today, June 24th, 2025. The track is the second preview of Secret Rule’s highly anticipated tenth studio album “X”, due for release late 2025.

With “Echoes Of The Earth”, Secret Rule explores a more introspective and spiritual side of their sound. The song blends heavy grooves, atmospheric tension, and layered electronics, creating a powerful and immersive soundscape. Lyrically, it reflects on the human need to reconnect with what is real and primordial in a chaotic, artificial world.

“It’s about listening for something ancient to guide you. I wrote the lyrics during a time when I needed to feel grounded again. That chorus is the moment of awakening,” says vocalist Angela Di Vincenzo.

Guitarist and producer Andy Menario adds:

“We wanted a track that felt direct and alive—something that could carry both chaos and order, like a dialogue between the modern world and the earth itself.”

Fresh from a 15-date European tour with Temperance and Induction earlier this spring and gearing up to hit major summer festivals across Europe, including Masters of Rock (Czech Republic), Rock Imperium (Spain), and Laurus Nobilis (Portugal), Secret Rule continues to prove they are entering a bold new chapter.
