About:
Featured in publications such as Metal Hammer and Billboard, Metalocalypstick Fest not only celebrates women in metal but also gives back to the community. Formed in 2016 as a non-profit organization, they are dedicated to raising funds and donating 100% of proceeds to local charities Girls Rock Camp, Vancouver Rape Relief and Women’s Shelter, and Earth Protectors plus they sponsor an independent band picked by Metalocalypstick Fest judges.
The festival was founded by Kaija Kinney of Vancouver’s Anarcheon after researching a lack of female based metal festivals to apply her band to, Kinney took matters into in her own and decided to produce the event.
“This festival means the celebration of both sexes coming together and creating something amazing. People like to say women in metal aren’t a big deal anymore and that we are all the same. I feel that is untrue, this is still a male dominated world and woman are still looked as lesser. I want to showcase all these bad ass ladies and celebrate the differences of men and woman rather than pretend we are all equal. Truth is we are different why can’t we celebrate that?” says Kinney.
Festival Location:
Lone Butte Community Hall

Fractures & Outlines, post-hardcore from Gatineau, Canada are releasing their debut full-length album, “Defenseless” this year and in anticipation have released a video for the first single “Mirrors”.
Full of heavy hooks, catchy choruses and brutal breakdowns the single shows both the bands punk and hardcore influences, starting with the melodic bass work which is followed by screams and breakdowns.“Defenseless” follows the 2017 EP “Checkmate” and will sound a bit different according to the band:
“Since the EP, we are definitely more mature than our first release. We’re used to working with each other and we’re all motivated to try new things.”
As one of the punkier tracks on the album, the band plays with the sound while maintaining a close to heart theme as the band explains:
“It’s a punk rock/post-hardcore song with a catchy hook. It talks about self-doubt and hiding your feelings from people around you.”
Core fans of all types, especially those with an affinity for Silverstein, AlexisOnFire and Obey The Brave will relish with this single and no doubt the full album.

BIO:
Ripping out of Gatineau, Canada, Fractures & Outlines are a post-hardcore band with influences ranging from Silverstein, No Use For A Name and Killswitch Engage.
The band came together in 2014 and work tirelessly planting their feet in the local underground music scene. Today the lineup consists of Nicholas Boudreault (vocals), Mathieu Frechette (drums/vocals), Eric Desormeaux (guitar/vocals), Maxime Rondeau (guitar), and Maurice Emond Jr. (bass). Intrepidly, they created their first EP ‘Checkmate’ in 2017, which was met with solid acclaim from various publications.
Since first taking the stage in 2014, Fractures & Outlines have played a whirlwind of local shows and festival including Rock Revolt 2017, Floodfest 2017, and Hullfest 2018. They have shared the stage with bands such as Sworn Enemy, Obey The Brave and Mass Hysteria.
As a team, the band works on each song together crafting heavy hooks, catchy choruses and brutal breakdowns with lyrical themes about internal struggle and having to fight your own demons. Each member brings a different set of musical influences to the table, making Fractures & Outlines stand out in the genre.
Working to further develop a sound that is their own, they hit the studio in 2018 to start work on their 10 track full length ‘Defenseless’, which will be revealed on May 17, 2019.

“An interesting choice to the lineup, as the other bands were of the deathcore / melodic metal genre. However, what they lacked in genre similarity they made up for in energy. This was highlighted by their cover of Alexisonfire “This Could Be Anywhere in the World“, which I and the crowd were taken aback by. Not only did they do the cover well, but they got the crowd engaged and were eager to mosh and sing along to it.” – Splice Media Group

As you can hear, it is a vivacious mixture of melodic death, groovy sludge and blissful hints of thrash. I was especially fond of “The Long Road” and “Line Em Up,” both of which are delivered with a bite. The sounds and superb grittiness snake right through you. It is a genuinely good feeling to blast this during a ride on an early Spring day.”
