0 Heavy Music Headquarters – Concrete Funeral – Ultimum Judicium (Self) – “The Canadian death/thrash brigade Concrete Funeral have a good grasp of the harsh side of things on their debut album Ultimum Judicium. Some very vicious sounding vocals atop the music matches it quite well. Abrasive riffing fits well within either the death or thrash genres. The music works well in all its caustic glory as the songs glide by with memorable efficiency and a rapid pace, but are allowed to have their impact implanted quite nicely… Fans of bands like early Kreator and Slayer will get a kick out of Concrete Funeral’s work. There is a nastiness that makes it more than just a typical thrash release.”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 30, 2019

For fans of Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel, Despised Icon, August Burns Red, Parkway Drive

Return To High School Angst With DEATH NOTE SILENCE’s New Video ‘Forgotten’

Canada’s DEATH NOTE SILENCE is hitting hard with their latest video, for the track ‘Forgotten’. This high impact, full throttle music video is complete with deep gutturals, accented with well-timed breakdowns and clean guitar harmonies that prove DEATH NOTE SILENCE is the next up and coming band in the underground Canadian metal scene.

‘Forgotten’ is off the self-titled EP that was released October 18, 2018, which followed the 2016 album “Code of Silence”. The band explains the meaning behind the song:

“This song is talking about someone put aside in high school. Someone that went through it, had it the hard way but made his way through it. You can feel the hate, unity and a sense of accomplishment.”

Moving forward, DEATH NOTE SILENCE provides a massive wall of sound that is more mature lyrically, but retains a touch of teen angst and is energetic and heavily complimented with gang vocals that engage the audience.

Fans of Despised Icon, Breakdown of Sanity and Whitechapel will find enjoyable similarities between those bands and the new upcomers DEATH NOTE SILENCE.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 30, 2019

For fans of Thrash Metal, Power Metal, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest

Montreal’s THRASH LA REINE will be releasing their second EP “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix” to the world on May 31, 2019.

With the spirit of both thrash and power metal, THRASH LA REINE, who describe themselves as ‘Francophone satirical epic thrash’ create music as they feel it and leave it up to the audience to decide where they really fit in. The exclusive French-language album follows the band’s 2017 EP “Le Metal Est Notre Langue”. The band hints at what the new release entails:

“We do not reinvent anything, but at the same time, we think we offer something that sounds new and refreshing. We want to share Montreal’s culture by making music in French, but we believe this music can be accessible and interesting to everybody around the world.”

Incorporating musical influences from the likes of Metallica, Judas Priest, and Megadeth, they take lyrical inspiration from current events and real life.

Teaming up with Metal-Rules.com, the trio is premiering the EP’s full stream at the following link: https://www.metal-rules.com/2019/05/30/montreals-thrash-la-reine-premiere-ep-streamla-foi-la-loi-la-croix/

The band adds:

“The album title “La Foi, La Loi, La Croix’’, in English translation means ‘The Faith, The Law, The Cross’’. We chose this title as these three symbols reflects the themes that are present in our album. On the album cover, we see three characters a Machiavellian priest, an evil queen and a corrupted politician’’ in front of our hometown of Montreal. They symbolize, in a caricatured way, the pillars of our Western society and its own decline.”

“La Foi, La Loi, La Croix” will be released on May 31, 2019, and will be available Bandcamp and available on Spotify, iTunes.

BIO:

Thrash La Reine is a Montreal-based French heavy metal trio founded in 2017. In their music, they comprise styles of their main influences of thrash and power metal as well as paying homage to their home city and the francophone punk bands that were notorious in the Montreal scene during their college years. In each song, they mix the epic themes of power metal with the social topics of punk and thrash metal to make a style that they dubbed ‘’Epic Thrash’’.

In 2017, in their home studio, they recorded a first EP called ‘’Le Metal Est Notre Langue’’. Since then, they have opened for artists such as Judas Priestess (US) and Tim Ripper Owen (US). In 2018, a second EP ‘’La Foi, La Loi, La Croix’’ was recorded. The recording and mixing were done at Studio Wild with Pierre Rémillard (Anonymus, Cryptopsy) and mastered in the summer by Jacob Hansen in Denmark. The EP is now ready to hit mosh pits around the world with a release date on May 31, 2019.

Launched from the mountain town of Kimberly, Canada, PHAETON released their debut self-titled album this past December. In support of the release, the band has launched a playthrough video for their track ‘Labyrinth’.

In this video, the viewer is taken through 4 minutes of instrumental prog metal with spacey riffs and melodic bass lines. Without the addition, one is able to be completely enveloped in the cumulation of years of hard work from these talented musicians.

As part of their modus operandi, they aspire to take their fans “through space and time and feel a complete visceral release that can only be found through prog metal.”

Fans of anything technical and dreamy will take a liking to PHAETON‘s ‘Labyrinth’ as it follows in the footsteps of Rush, Dream Theater, and King Crimson.

BIO:

In the wilderness of Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada, with a fascination for astronomy, Kevin Thiessen (guitar), Daniel Airth (guitar), Colin Righton (percussion), and Ferdy Belland (bass) united to create the interplanetary, instrumental prog metal that would come to be known as Phaeton.

Since 2017, they have been working quickly as a collaborative unit, honing their skills and orchestrating an attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. And the lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar.

Phaeton can be experienced with the release of the self-titled debut album out now as of December 21, 2018.

“An epic Progressive Metal listening experience.”  – Trevor Hatter (BeatRoute Magazine)

“This badass band makes a devastating impact with their high velocity musical assault.” – Time Lord (Progarchy)

“A sparkling, sizzling debut from PHAETON, taking us on a futuristic musical journey, with deep roots in the ancient past.” – Stephen Conrad (Progressive Rock Fanatics)

Calgary’s CONCRETE FUNERAL have been bashing their way into the ears of metal lovers in the local underground scene since 2015 and now they are bringing their debut album “Ultimum Judicium” to the masses this week on Friday, May 31st, 2019.

Just before the album officially is released, the heavy groove thrashers have teamed up with MetalInsider.net for the premiere of its full stream.

The band adds:

“Each song is its own tale. We bring an audio shitkicking with personality, off colour humour and maybe borderline questionable commentary. We wanna get people laughing, moshing and just having an all-out party. It’s straight forward, groovy death thrash that does contain elements of black metal and punk as well and we think a lot of people can get down on that. We’re really hoping to draw some fans across Canada and beyond with this record. We have a no bullshit approach to music so those that like it straight up heavy, no cleans should really dig it. And to add, we had the cover done in the style of a graphic novel to paint a picture of who we are and our sound. ”

Listen to “Ultimum Judicium” at the following link: https://www.metalinsider.net/new-music/album-premiere-concrete-funeral-ultimum-judicium

Those looking for the latest auditory mayhem, especially with an interest in Exodus, Death, and Lamb of God need to look no further as this face punching death/thrash metal assault will be available on May 31, 2019.

Album pre-order is available on Bandcamp.

About:

Concrete Funeral is a no-holds-barred contingent of death/thrash from Calgary, Alberta that has done much to project themselves to the forefront of their local music scene since 2015. Known for packing venues and festivals while bringing a heavy and powerful presence to the stage, Concrete Funeral has had the privilege to play with bands such as Archspire, Battlecross, Disciples of Power, Kataklysm, and Toxic Holocaust.

Incorporating a vast variety of influences with some of the more prominent being Warbringer, Zakk Wylde, and Onslaught, and Hypocrisy, Concrete Funeral produces a sound in the veins of Death, Exodus and Lamb of God. Citing references like Hobo With A Shotgun; the band embraces over the top comedic horror and frequently embellishes their metal with those themes. Concrete Funeral is comprised of four talented musicians from Alberta that collectively have decades of experience behind them. In May 2019, they will be by releasing their debut album “Ultimum Judicium” with plans for future touring within Canada.

– 30 –

“There’s plenty of unbridled rage and high-octane energy in this mad romp (“Carnival of Contradictions“) , with riffing that alternately pulsates, swirls, scissors, and slashes, tempos that turn on a dime, explosive drum work that will give your skull a solid battering, and vocals that veer from a guttural growl to a maniac shriek in the blink of an eye. It’s a riotous assault, but holds a few eye-opening surprises, including a hell of a guitar solo when the rampage briefly abates. But mainly, this is the kind of track that’s calculated to flood your body with adrenaline and get your blood rushing through the veins, and it reaches a crescendo of ferocious lunacy at the end. ” – No Clean Singing

“”Concrete Funeral , let’s face it, you can’t pass by a chance to listen to a band with a name like that, it just sounds… so Metal!! So if you like your Metal with that added ‘Thrash-tastic’ edge you won’t be too disappointed with their debut release “Ultimum Judicium” , it’s thrashy to the core but with a pinch of Death Metal, think Exodus, Death, Lamb of God and you’ll be in the right ballpark.” – The Metal Wanderlust

“Pay attention death/thrash fans! Soon a very promising debut album will be released by a Canadian band operating in this subgenre of metal… what makes Ultimum Judicium a very strong debut is that it shows what Concrete Funeral is capable of: playing some very well-done death/thrash metal that pounds nicely, but with mixing in quite some variation. Ultimum Judicium for sure promises very much for the future of Concrete Funeral. This is a band that probably could be a pretty big name in death/thrash metal within a few years. Recommended for sure!” – Dutch Metal Maniac

Thrash metal never dies! Like some mutated metal monster, a Thrashzilla if you will, it sees off all trends; and comes back stronger than ever fueled by love from fans and musicians alike. One such band are Ottawa’s ’80s legends INFRARED. A band who made a big impact with Canadian fans in the ’80s and in recent years returned to cement and carry on their own legacy.

Originally, Infrared was a high school band formed in the ’80s by friends who wanted to revel in the classic thrash sound that was quickly gaining traction. Collaborating on their sound since 1985 they have produced an EP (1988’s R.I.P.) and after rising from a 27-year hiatus, 2 albums “No Peace” in 2016 and “Saviours” in 2018.

Moving forward to make up for lost time, they bring a familiar aggressive and melodic classic thrash sound that is full of nostalgia, but also music that is still relevant and valid today. They explore topics that are basic human truths that don’t change over time and they consider themselves reporters through sound. Solidly rooted in classic thrash, Infrared pays homage to the Big Four and is dropping their new EP “Back To The Warehouse” in 2019 on June 14th to finally release the last of their classic material before the newest full-length studio album.

Founded in 2017 by guitarist Jeremy Perkins, Montreal’s WYKAN plays a blend of psychedelic doom, heavy blues, stoner rock and black metal in the classic format of bass, drums, and guitar. Their experimental and massive sounding music is best described as Pink Floyd meeting Black Sabbath meeting Mayhem for those who have never heard the band.

Set to release their sophomore EP “Brigid: Of The Night” on June 7, 2019, to follow their 2018 debut EP “Solace”, WYKAN is premiering their second single ‘Imbolc (The Cleansing)’ via DoomedandStoned.com at the following link here.

“We want to give fans a trip for the mind, without barriers and hooks, just plain vibes and atmosphere. This next EP, overall, is more of the classic riffing which goes with each genre I touch and blend in each of the songs. As a thematic “Brigid: Of The Night” is about the Celtic Goddess known as Brigid. The whole EP’s thematic and three songs are a historical take on the cultural ceremonies & festivities in Ode to Brigid. Also one will find that the lyrics are based on the deities representation and relationship held strong between  the Celtic life of pre-Christian Ireland and Brigid.” says Perkins

The band’s line up for the EP features guest drummer Simon McKay of The Agonist rattling his talents on track #3 Reul-Iuil Bride (Star of Brigid) along WYKAN and EOHUM founder Jeremy Perkins on guitar, vocalist Barrie Butler (Eohum, ex-Tard), bassist Corey Thomas, best known for his own Jazz ensemble Backwater Township and drummer Dug Kawliss (ex-Tempete) who is on tracks #1 Imbolc (The Cleansing) and #2 Breo-Saighead (Triple Goddess).

“Brigid: Of The Night” also follows the band’s plan of releasing an EP every six to ten months and keep fans on a ceremonial run of emotion and space.

The EP will be available on Bandcamp as a $1 EP or more Pay-What-You-Want download.

“an impressive debut, with enough hooks to catch ears wherever it gets play. So grab yourself a copy, turn it up, and consume some mean doom.” – The Burning Beard (Review – Solace EP 2018)

“A strange and bewildering piece of psychedelic doom metal, inspired by both old school doom and black metal, this debut by Canadian act Wykan is certainly something special. ” – Merchants of Air (Review – Solace EP 2018)

“Montreal riff metallers Wykan make their debut April 13 with the SolaceEP. It is not intended for background listening. Even at three tracks/24 minutes, it’s not the kind of thing you “just put on” while you’re picking up around the house or working or whatever you might be doing. It demands attention and demands it early.” – The Obelisk (Review – Solace EP 2018)

““The Gathering” is an undeniably intense song that passes through changing shades of mystery, tension, torment, and gloom. The stage is set through a slow, reverberating guitar melody, whose ringing tones create a mystical aura, and by a solemn, heavy riff that itself has an otherworldly cast. The increasingly acrobatic drumming and the vibrancy of the throbbing bass drive the energy of the song higher, as does the swirling lead, which creates a feeling of growing disquiet and pain, made even more distraught by the vocal combination of acidic rasping shrieks and harsh roars.” – No Clean Singing (Review – Solace EP 2018)
