“The technical abilities of all band members blew my head off. The flow and continuity of the music is maintained from the first to the last note despite all the challenging progressiveness. It’s got more creativity crammed in 5 songs than some bands put in their entire discography. And it kills swiftly with no mercy. For all you waiting on that new Tool album, make this EP your warm up.” 9.5/10 – The Metal Observer

“If you love your prog chunkier and sludgier KOSM is right up your ally.  They are definitely one of the genre’s best kept secrets and lets not make them a secret anymore, okay?”  – Technical Music Review

“KOSM’s knack for creating concept albums has paid off yet again!” – The Music Below

“I am immediately impressed. “Yharnam” is the first track, and I am already thinking Otep, Epica and iwrestledabearonce. The lyrics are impactful, the flow of the song fits and I want to listen to the rest already. Jessie Grace, vocalist, is showing her talent from the get-go. Having such a strong female lead is really a treasure, and I can’t fault the song. It’s definitely my favourite track off of the EP. The lyrics are dynamic and descriptive, and well executed. If you haven’t played Bloodborne, then this song will make you want to…I loved this EP! Everything worked and came together. It was refreshing, powerful and I believe the band will go far.” – Midlands Metalheads

“Eyes on the Inside is an engaging progressive metal album, representing a lot of what’s good about the modern prog scene. A complex and ambitious affair… From the concept story to the music and artwork, there is clearly a lot of thought placed into Eyes on the Inside. As such, it seems to mark a new chapter of growth, and suggests a very promising future for the band.” – Boston Rock Radio

“KOSM delivers the goods while touching bases in the same ballpark as TOOL, MASTODON and PERIPHERY, (they’ve previously covered Mastodons “Blood and Thunder”) with an emphasis on plenty of space rock intermissions” – Powerplay Magazine

“Remember when Mastodon were special, circa Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack The Skye, before that vision was lost? […] Well, Kosm are like Mastodon in those days.” – Hellbound.ca

“KOSM does a solid job of mixing technicality, mood and groove. […] They’re a well versed band with all kinds of moods and changes engaging your ears every split second.” – Technical Music Review

“Vancouver’s KOSM kick the door in with Cosmonaut, their monstrous full-length debut. Brace yourself for a satisfying trip through an exciting mountain range of cascading, meaty riffs, swelling rises and heady drops, all led by the powerful, soaring vocals of the dynamic Jessie Grace. ” – Beatroute BC

“KOSM cite Tool, Gojira and Mastodon as three of their main influences, and all three can be heard loud and clear on their new album, Cosmonaut. The technical, progressive musicianship of Tool meets the crushing grooves and rhythmic vocals of Gojira, and Mastodon’s ear for riffy, thunderous prog are all present on Cosmonaut, which features some of the most technical metal I’ve heard this year outside of, you know, technical death metal. ” – Decibel Magazine

“Lovecraftian progressive metal is on the table for Kosm’s debut. While bands like Mastodon and Tool come to mind in the way that the guitars are maneuvering around, limiting the band in that manner downplays what they are trying to do. There are so many different textures and flavors along the way it is really hard to get a grasp on what best defines them. But that’s perfectly okay, and keeps Cosmonaut interesting for its 66-minute runtime. The concept to it all keeps it on the rails while exploring a variety of emotions and levels of heaviness (including some that aren’t so heavy). There’s loads of potential here for the band to experiment with in future offerings. ” – Dead Rhetoric

“KOSM definitely show enough potential with this release to be a band that should be on your scopes.” – Noizze UK

SHORT BIO

KOSM is a progressive metal band hailing from Vancouver BC, Canada. Combining influences from Mastodon, Tool and Gojira; their sound is dynamic and unquestionably lethal. Since their induction in 2016, they have been making their mark in Vancouver’s metal scene as an absolute force to be reckoned with.

Familiar to members of the progressive metal covenant, and playing with themes from the H.P. Lovecraft and Bloodborne universes; KOSM is quite unique and authentically its own being. Their first release, 2018’s “Cosmonaut” was an album loosely based on the Lovecraftian myth of Cthulhu and each song was meant to walk the listener through a story from beginning to end. Following this, the band is now gearing up for the release of their latest release in 2019, “Eyes On The Inside”, an EP exclusively based on the Bloodborne video game.

Since their induction in 2016, they have been making their mark in Vancouver’s metal scene as an absolute force to be reckoned with.

The origin of the band starts with Mike Slater (guitars) and Erik Leonhard (guitars) as a casual project, and they were quickly joined by Jessie Grace (vocals), Sterling Paterson (drums) and Michael Mastracci (bass) for some jolly cooperation. Swiftly, like hunters, they took off from there and released three singles; including the well-received “Ancient Heart” music video.

Not just committed to the challenging Bloodborne related games, KOSM dedicates their energy to their music especially in the form of live shows. Taking a page from the books of some of their influences, they indulge the audience in a diverse performance to showcase their talent.

With even more material in the works and future albums planned, KOSM summons you to join them on this journey full of experimental and progressive metal.

New Album “Conspiracy Theorist” Out Now!

Unleashing their debut beast “Conspiracy Theorist” this past February, Northern Quebec’s BACKSTABBER announces they will be performing on day three of this year’s musically eclectic FRIMAT Festival in Val d’Or, QC on July 26th. The band will be sharing the stage at the festival with Grimskunk, Inire, Carambolage and Les Louanges. Full details on the festival can be found at http://frimat.qc.ca/2019/.

Vocalist/guitarist Christian M. Thériault adds:

BIO:

Hailing from Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, Backstabber is a formidable death/thrash metal trio inspired by conspiracies, new technologies, philosophy, and history. Covering a vast number of themes throughout their music, Backstabber can be likened to a ‘loose cannon’ with no foreshadowing of what direction they will take next, musically.

Starting with themes and gradually adding riffs, drums, bass and finally vocals, they pride themselves on complimenting their compositions with energetic and interactive live shows, the entire reason for them writing their music.

Eager to bring raw and fierce metal to the ears of listeners, Backstabber has recorded their first full-length “Conspiracy Theorist” set to be released February 15, 2019.

Backstabber has shared the stage with Cattle Decapitation, Depths of Hatred, First Fragment, Ending Tyranny, Insurrection, Blinded by Faith, Aepoch and more.

– 30 –

“Powered by drumwork that resembles a ferocious mix of machine-gun and mortar fire, Backstabber mount the attack with flurries of vicious, seething riffery and nail-gunning jab-fests, with the lyrics voiced in heartless, imperious roars. The devastation is pushed to further heights of frenzy with a shrill, eerily spiraling solo, and concludes with a hint of off-planet mystery.” – No Clean Singing

“Fast, frantic, politically minded and heavy” – Exclaim!

“Backstabber’s death metal is more of the modern variety (in a good way) with a very clean yet brutal sound and speed aplenty. The playing is insanely tight at times and it’s often hard to believe that this is only the first album of a relatively young band, their first demo having been released in 2016. Some passages are a little on the thrash side but for the most part, this is heavy, pounding, fast death metal driven by a drummer who is really asking for a speeding ticket. ” – 4/5 – The Metal Crypt

“The songs are heavy, and the death and thrash influences make for some fairly easy to get into head bobbing as each track progresses… Conspiracy Theorist is a solid beginning for Backstabber… Solid for those that want some new, well-rounded death metal.”  – Dead Rhetoric

“Backstabber’s Conspiracy Theorist is a self-released album that makes one wonder how they haven’t been signed to any label yet… Backstabber have on their hands the first essential death metal release of 2019.” – 4/5 – Heavy Music HQ

Ottawa’s INFRARED is debuting ‘Meet My Standards’ off their forthcoming EP “Back To The Warehouse”, which is being premiered exclusively on Bravewords.

The EP is a collection of some of the older material that INFRARED deems worthy to unleash unto the public ahead of their next full studio album anticipated for 2020 release.

“They are the last of the old songs that we felt should see the light of day. Our upcoming EP is 5 songs. 4 originals and one cover of an Iron Maiden song. We hope that fans will appreciate the old school thrash metal feel of the release. We feel they are strong songs with interesting twists.”

‘Meet My Standards’ follows the formula that was set by the Big Four that INFRARED has been meticulously channeling since 1985. Tight riffs and modern writing sensibilities, this EP is a trip back in time to 80’s thrash metal. It is aggressive and melodic with lots of guitars and vocal hooks.

The band explains the meaning behind the single:

“’Meet My Standards’ is a middle finger to societies’ desire to conform everyone to their standards. This song calls for the acceptance of independence and uniqueness.”

Bio:
Thrash metal never dies! Like some mutated metal monster, a Thrashzilla if you will, it sees off all trends; and comes back stronger than ever fueled by love from fans and musicians alike. One such band are Ottawa’s ’80s legends INFRARED. A band who made a big impact with Canadian fans in the ’80s and in recent years returned to cement and carry on their own legacy.

Originally, Infrared was a high school band formed in the ’80s by friends who wanted to revel in the classic thrash sound that was quickly gaining traction. Collaborating on their sound since 1985 they have produced an EP (1988’s R.I.P.) and after rising from a 27-year hiatus, 2 albums “No Peace” in 2016 and “Saviours” in 2018.

Moving forward to make up for lost time, they bring a familiar aggressive and melodic classic thrash sound that is full of nostalgia, but also music that is still relevant and valid today. They explore topics that are basic human truths that don’t change over time and they consider themselves reporters through sound. Solidly rooted in classic thrash, Infrared pays homage to the Big Four and is dropping their new EP “Back To The Warehouse” in 2019 on June 14th to finally release the last of their classic material before the newest full-length studio album.

– 30 –

“I can happily say that if you’re a fan of that classic balls to the wall thrash metal sound then you will most certainly get a kick out of Infrared’s “Saviours”… a prime example of what thrash metal is and what it should always be. These Canadian thrashers have stayed true to the sounds they knew when they were in their earlier years and have bought that sound back to the modern era.”  – Overdrive Music Magazine

“It is an excellent album, killer thrash with NWOBHM melodic sensibilities, proper singing, hooks, the full nine yards!” – Hellbound

“a savage and brutal journey of eighties inspired thrash metal, laden with heaviness and menace, heads will be banging hard from start to finish.” – Metal Gods TV

“Their new album Saviours is a thrash party from beginning to end.” – Rock Portaal

“These guys play a heavy/thrash hybrid that’s highly melodic and at times is so damn catchy, some of the songs just stick in your head after the first listen. ” – The Metal Crypt

Hailing from the ashes of Charlotte, USA’s darker side comes forth the blackened death trio, OCULUM DEI. Mixing different elements and influences of black metal, the band unleashed their debut full length “Dreams of Desire and Torment” this past February.

Teaming up with NoCleanSinging.com, these unholy demons are sharing their latest NSFW music video for their track ‘Ghost In The Corridors’ at the following link (warning does contain nudity) https://www.nocleansinging.com/2019/06/04/an-ncs-video-premiere-oculum-dei-ghost-in-the-corridors/

The band explains the video:

“‘Ghost In The Corridors‘ is a song lyrically and visually about battling demons with oneself and the struggles upon the flesh and mind that can play out. Sensually in the video, we the band are placed in a corridor-like setting to show how we’re trapped within ourselves there, while a lady is shown struggling and hurting herself from her issues. There is a glimpse of a darkened figure that represents the demon that is haunting and causing her to harm herself. and in the end credits the demon’s face is revealed — and this was our way of introducing our newest member Nadir, who will be taking over the keys, synth, and organs (we featured him as a guest musician on the track ‘A Mist of Heaven Inside of Hell’).”

Oculum Dei‘s “Dreams of Desire and Torment” is available for stream and download on Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, Amazon.

First forming as a studio project in 2016 by Tenebris (bass/drum and keys programming), Camalus (guitar) and Zebulv (vocals/guitar), Oculum Dei has taken their influences of Emperor, Behemoth and Dark Funeral and push an eclectic unholy blasphemy as far as it will go in the Southern USA’s Bible Belt.

The band adds:

“The album as a whole is an eclectic mix of slow dark black metal jumping into extreme black riffs sometimes slowed down with a death metal riff and into acoustic guitars. There is no set template for this one, just a groove and feel that each of us has brought to the table.”

“Magnetic, untamed, infamous and regaled for their strange and sensational stage shows, White Cowbell Oklahoma is the country-fried boogie rock sandwich you didn’t know you were craving.” – Beatroute AB

“given live performances that seem to feature more people onstage than in the audience, chainsaws, strippers, decimated stuffed things (turkeys, play toys and so on), they do aspire to have their music appreciated to the same extent that their image is co-opted, gawked at and gossiped about.” Exclaim!”

“White Cowbell Oklahoma add a touch of psych to their trashy hard rock formula…hellraising Southern-rock-tinged rock ‘n’ roll.” – Now Toronto

There’s no warm-up for White Cowbell Oklahoma’s sixth full-length release, recorded at Zeus’s Toronto studio and also in concert in Amsterdam. As in their live shows, where flames and power tools feature prominently, the underrated Toronto old-school rockers throw us into the fire immediately, and that fire doesn’t die until long after the final chords – from not one, not two, but three guitars – ring out.” – Now Toronto (2015 Mixto Sixto Review)“a fist-pumping, anthemnic set of songs thick on low-end, pelvic thrust and grit. Easily their most confident effort to date, it displays a new Bell that is streamlined and primed for attack. ” – Exclaim! (2009 Bombardero Review)

The gorgeous, Gilmour-esque guitar leads of the opening track, the dark blues and searing black metal of Breo-saighead and the dark, icy doom of reul-luil Bride will leave any discerning metal fan in awe of the band’s grand vision. The gorgeous, Gilmour-esque guitar leads of the opening track, the dark blues and searing black metal of Breo-saighead and the dark, icy doom of reul-luil Bride will leave any discerning metal fan in awe of the band’s grand vision. With plans to release new material every six to ten months, the next work cannot come soon enough. As it is, Brigid: Of The Night is a genuine masterpiece. 9.5”
