Canada’s THE DIVINE PROJECT Storms The Great Escape Festival (UK) + Drops “The Longest Night” Lyric Video

+ Set To Perform at NXNE (Toronto) June 2026 and New EP “Rebirth” Out Now!

L-R – Derek ‘DRock’ Boshkov (Bass), Ro Stevens (vocals), Eric Divine (Guitar), David T.Anselmo (Guitar), Mitch Greenham (Drums)

Ontario metal force The Divine Project continues its explosive rise with the release of the brand‑new lyric video for “The Longest Night”, the sweeping and emotionally charged closing track from their latest EP “Rebirth.”

The release of the video is in the lead-up to the band’s upcoming performance at this week’s The Great Escape Festival (The Alternative Escape stage) (https://greatescapefestival.com/the-alternative-escape/) in Brighton, UK, on May 15th at The Fiddler’s Elbow, marking a major international milestone for the fast‑ascending Canadian act. Next month, The Divine Project returns home to take the stage at NXNE 2026 in Toronto on June 11th at The Bovine Sex Club (https://www.nxne.com/2026-artists/the-divine-project), further cementing their reputation as one of the most compelling heavy acts emerging from the GTA.

Both performances are part of the Rock & Metal Alliance showcases, marking a significant milestone for the band as they continue their relaunch with a revamped lineup and a sharper, heavier, more defiant sound. Their addition to these festivals follows a surge of momentum, including a successful March run supporting Selias, plus recent shows alongside Eyes Set To Kill, Black Satellite, Awake At Last, Sumo Cyco, and Escape The Fate.

Everything the band is doing in 2026 supports their acclaimed EP “Rebirth,” a four‑track onslaught of technical precision, emotional weight, and unapologetic heaviness. The EP marks the official refurbishment of The Divine Project with its new lineup, frontman Ro Stevens, founder/guitarist Eric Divine, lead guitarist David T. Anselmo, bassist Derek “DRock” Boshkov, and drummer Mitch Greenham.

“We set the goals to reintroduce The Divine Project to the world as a faster, heavier, and more complex band… Rebirth is our new beginning and our way of saying The Divine Project is here to stay,” adds the band.

“The Longest Night” is the EP’s most expansive track, an emotional, cinematic closer that blends tension, heaviness, and catharsis. Musically, it builds from introspective unease into a soaring, anthemic release, showcasing the band’s love for 2000s metalcore, dynamic vocal storytelling, and rhythm‑driven movement.

Lyrically, the song explores the reckoning of a soldier who realizes too late that the cause they fought for was built on lies. It’s not a pro‑ or anti‑war statement, but a human one, an examination of vulnerability, exploitation, and the moment you confront the truth after the damage is done.

The track is a collective favourite among the band, and its title was chosen only a day before the EP’s submission, an instinctive decision that ultimately captured the song’s emotional weight.

Watch and listen to the lyric video for “The Longest Night” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfMwakVil7g

Across its four tracks, The Revolt, Ruins of Truth, Don’t Startle The Murder, and The Longest Night, “Rebirth” moves through themes of resistance, collapse, danger, and endurance. The EP blends metalcore, djent, nu‑groove, and progressive influences while maintaining a signature sound fans have struggled to categorize, but instantly recognize.

The artwork, featuring an angel forming from dust, symbolizes the band’s rebirth into a new era. As guitarist David explains:

“The name ‘Rebirth’ is inspired by our new line‑up and era… The angel forming up from dust represents breaking through the void.”

The Divine Project has become a staple in the Ontario heavy music scene, known for its explosive live shows and genre‑blending musicianship. Their mission is simple: bring music that’s considered underground or too heavy into the spotlight.

The band’s writing process is a collaborative “hot potato” of ideas, with each member shaping the final product. Everything on “Rebirth” was performed live, with no essential backing tracks, reflecting their commitment to authenticity and raw performance. The band entered the studio in April to begin recording their follow‑up to “Rebirth”. While still unmistakably TDP, the next EP will explore darker, more emotionally lonesome territory.

Recommended for fans of Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Static‑X, Linkin Park, and All That Remains, “Rebirth” was released on November 28, 2025, and is available at the following links:

“… I’m simply left wanting more. Not from the track itself, but from an EP whose tracks each bring their own texturally layered elements, all melded together in an extraordinary Extended Play recording.” – Jay Broderick, LoudTO, 2025

“You know a band is special when they have a truly unique sound. Those were my thoughts when I gave this EP a listen.” – “Metal” Mike, @black_kross_zine, 2026)

“With a mix of styles and a strong DIY approach, The Divine Project are a band to keep an eye on as they continue to grow beyond the Toronto scene.” – Dayna Szymanski – This Day In Metal

“The Divine Project may not look traditionally Metal but boy can they break it down! ” – Blast Toronto

“The name of their 2025 EP Rebirth is fitting. This album feels like an evolution for the band… Every song has its own distinct identity, albeit with a strong family resemblance of sound…. Ro’s vocal range is wide, able to give you everything from low guttural screams to rich, neo-operatic tenor melodies… It’s an absolutely captivating blend of feral, unrestrained energy and beautiful vocal tone…” – FalseChord

“Coming out to a packed crowd, the songs off Rebirth came to life under the stage lights, signalling a new era for the band… To see them live, expect a high energy set, a rowdy crowd, and some heavy ass music.” – FalseChord

“You ever watch a band and realize halfway through that there’s no safety net? No laptop running stems, no hidden tracks filling the gaps, just five people in a room making every sound you’re hearing with their actual hands? That’s The Divine Project. Ontario. “Rebirth” EP.” – Papy Jeff Metal

“Canadian band The Divine Project released the EP “Rebirth” back in 2025, and this is a production that might be of interest also for fans of progressive metal. Initially we are presented with a band that gleefully enters a more hectic and borderline chaotic landscape of extreme metal oriented escapades, with gruff, distorted vocals and a high level of intensity. But as this EP unfolds one does notice that we get an array of changes and alterations in tempo, while the gruff vocals alternate with a more aggressive hardcore style of delivery as well as clean and melodic vocals in a controlled and more powerful mode of delivery. More delicate interludes and strikingly melodic ones at that too starts entering the framework, and the end result is both varied and at times rather unpredictable. A production to seek out by those who enjoy an expressive band that makes use of powerful and dramatic high intensity statements but also gentler, melodic and atmospheric laden side steps, taking on the metal universe in a manner rather close to a contemporary progressive metal expression on occasion.” – Progressor

“A huge like from me. My take on the EP: From the 1st track till the last one you are taken on a metal roller coaster ride with no breaks. Every song is masterly crafted and performed. This is a killer EP and if you haven’t got it yet, you are missing out on Top tier musicians at their best. Rebirth get a massive yes from me and is on my personal playlist.” – Project Metal Music

0 Thrash Metal From Reunion Island LOMOR Announces EU Tour Dates + Hellfest; New Album “Sabouk Rouge” Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 13, 2026

Thrash Metal From Reunion Island LOMOR Announces EU Tour Dates + Hellfest

New Album “Sabouk Rouge” Out Now! via Rockshots Records

Reunion Island thrash metal trio LOMOR is heading to Europe, launching a run of France and Belgium tour dates in support of their new album “Sabouk Rouge,” with the trek kicking off at Hellfest. This band will be bringing their raw, creole‑infused thrash to some of the region’s most respected stages (dates listed below).

The tour supports their latest album “Sabouk Rouge,” released this past February 2026 via Rockshots Records. Produced by the band, recorded and mixed by Sébastien Camhi at Art Music Studio in France, and mastered by Kai Stahlenberg at Kohlekeller Studio in Germany, “Sabouk Rouge” expands LOMOR’s sonic palette while staying true to their primal thrash roots. With more Creole lyrics woven in at fans’ request, the album strengthens its cultural identity as it shifts through a wide range of moods.

“The tracks are all different, each bringing its own atmosphere. It’s still trash, but with a variety of flavors,” says Eric.

That diversity fuels a record that moves from the title track’s sharp satire of Réunion’s slavery legacy to the grotesque obsession of “Meet Your Meat,” the ritualistic mysticism of “Sanctuary,” and the blistering critique of religion in “La Haine.” The tone lightens with the street‑racing humor of “La Pouss’,” then darkens again with “Panzram,” exploring the roots of a killer’s hatred. The album revisits Eric’s past with a reimagined “Kit Ta Mère” before closing on “Nevroz,” a reversed, tongue‑in‑cheek remake born from a studio joke.

LOMOR has carved its identity as one of the most distinctive metal acts emerging from the Indian Ocean. Their sound, described by guitarist/vocalist Eric Castelnau (Babouk) as “creole thrash old‑school stuff”, fuses classic 80s thrash aggression with the cultural grit and linguistic identity of Réunion Island.

LOMOR began as a deeply personal project for Eric, who formed the band in 2018 after the passing of his cousin and brother, both former bandmates in his earlier project Black Babouk. The name Lomor, meaning “The Deads” in Réunion Creole, stands as a tribute to the people and memories that shaped his musical path.

Joined by drummer Gurvan Cambrai (Typhvs) (also of grind outfit Brvtal trve d’baal) and bassist Micha (member of a local Rage Against the Machine tribute band), the trio has forged a sound rooted in old‑school thrash but sharpened by modern production and raw island energy.

About: Lomor is a power trio from Reunion Island (France) delivering an explosive blend of old-school thrash, punk, and core metal. Drawing inspiration from Slayer, Testament, and Kreator, the band channels the raw spirit of 80s thrash through modern production and unrelenting stage energy.

Formed in 2018 by Eric Castelnau (vocals, guitars), joined by Gurvan Cambrai (drums) and Mathieu “Micha” Michalina (bass), Lomor quickly became one of the loudest voices in the island’s metal scene. Their first single, “Kanyar L’Enfer” (2021), set the tone for their uncompromising sound, followed by their debut full-length “Perseverance of Sickness” (2022), recorded by Sébastien Camhi (Art Music Studio, France). The album was praised by international outlets like Rock Hard France and Legacy.de for its sharp riffing and fierce authenticity.

In 2023, Lomor hit mainland France for their Kanyar Tour, performing seven shows and sharing stages with Akiavel and Mass Hysteria. They also released the live record “Live on Dock“, capturing the raw, chaotic energy that defines their performances.

Now, with their second studio album “Sabouk Rouge” (out February 2026 via Rockshots Records), Lomor dive deeper into the social and historical themes that shaped their identity, from the brutality of slavery on their island to the universal struggle against human madness and oppression. Recorded again with Sébastien Camhi and mastered by Kai Stahlenberg at Kohlekeller Studio (Germany), the album reaffirms Lomor’s old-school ethos while delivering a powerful, modern punch.

Fueled by adrenaline, rebellion, and Creole pride, Lomor stands as a unique voice in today’s global metal scene, pure thrash from Reunion Island.

-30-

“I’m completely captivated by this trio from Réunion Island, who are likely to make a huge impact on the thrash scene by bringing freshness and originality while respecting the genre’s fundamentals.” – Pavillon 666

“Conclusion: ‘Sabouk Rouge’ is a real treat for all fans of varied, authentic thrash. LOMOR present us with a wide range of riffs, creative drumming, and gritty vocals that will captivate any audience live.4.5/5” – MetalUnderground.at

Let’s get ready to rumble! Canada has spoken. After months of fierce battles from coast to coast, WACKEN METAL BATTLE CANADA has revealed the 2026 national finalist, showcasing the strongest underground metal emerging from the scene today.

Following intense regional clashes, four bands rose above the rest to earn their place at the national final on May 9th in Montreal, QC, taking over Piranha Bar (680 Ste‑Catherine Ouest). There, they unleashed their might before a crowd of die‑hard metal fans and a judging panel of industry veterans, including Luc Laine (CFLX 95.5 FM – Alerte Metallique), Pierre Beaubien (CIBL 101.5 FM – Décibel Métal), Andrew Wieler (CJLO 1690 AM – Metal Director), Kaje Annihilatrix (Promoter, Freelance Metal Writer, Asher Media), Dany Soucy (Nova Spei, Bam&Co‑Heavy Label, Trois‑Rivières Metalfest), and Patrick Loisel (Augury).

Only one band could claim the crown, and BornBroken emerged victorious as Canada’s 2026 national champion, earning the honour of representing the nation at the 35th anniversary of Wacken Open Air and competing in the international Wacken Metal Battle, where bands from over 30 countries collide in a global showdown.

WMBC organizer JJ Tartaglia comments:

“Congrats to BornBroken, they are sure to tear it up at Wacken this summer and do Canada proud!”

BornBroken‘s guitarist and vocalist, Mike Decker, comments on their crowning:

“Winning the Canadian Wacken Metal Battle still hasn’t fully sunk in. We’ve spent years grinding through clubs, hauling gear through snowstorms, playing to half-empty rooms, and fighting for every inch as a band, so this means more to us than we can really put into words. To now represent Canada at Wacken Open Air is something we will never take for granted.

This win belongs to everyone who’s supported BornBroken over the years. Our families, our friends, the promoters who gave us chances, the people who bought merch when we were struggling to keep moving, and every single person who ever stood in front of the stage and gave us their energy. You carried us here as much as we carried ourselves.

We also want to give respect to every band that was part of this year’s battle. The level of talent, passion, and heart we saw was incredible. We may be the band getting on the plane, but we honestly feel like we’re carrying a piece of every one of those bands with us onto that stage in Germany. In our eyes, everyone who stepped into this battle and gave it everything they had is a winner.

We’re proud, we’re grateful, and we’re ready to give Wacken everything we’ve got…”

Melodic death metal outfit Accursed has released their powerful new single “Sever the Horizon,” a track that not only expands the band’s sonic identity but also serves as the creative catalyst for their forthcoming debut full‑length album. The LP is currently in pre‑production and scheduled to begin recording this summer, with a release date to be announced.

“Sever the Horizon” marks a pivotal moment for Accursed, musically, lyrically, and creatively. Built on intricate guitar work, shifting dynamics, and a heightened sense of compositional precision, the single represents the band’s most ambitious material to date.

“This single is a step forward for us. It’s more technical, more layered, and more deliberate in its composition. It pushes our sound into new territory while staying true to what defines us, and it really sets the tone for where we’re headed with the album,” says guitarist and primary songwriter Dave Lee.

Though written over a year ago, “Sever the Horizon” became the creative spark that shaped the rest of the album. Lyrically, the track explores the story of Richard “Sky King” Russell and the Horizon Air Incident of August 10, 2018, approached through an interpretive and human‑focused lens.

Rather than recounting events or glorifying actions, the band chose to explore the emotional and psychological space Russell may have occupied in his final moments, capturing the surreal beauty, fear, and uncertainty of a widely discussed tragedy.

“We intentionally avoided direct callouts or any attempt to explain or glorify his actions. The focus is on perspective and human experience. It’s a story that resonated with a lot of people when it happened, and we hope that the song connects similarly, maybe offering listeners something to reflect on and relate to in their own struggles,” adds Dave.

Accursed’s upcoming debut album sits at the intersection of melodic death metal, technical death metal, and deathcore, though the band emphasizes that the record is far more cohesive than a list of influences suggests.

Lyrically, the record will span mythology, historical practices, real‑world trauma, horror‑inspired concepts, and politically charged themes. The planned result is a body of work that is intense, unflinching, and intentional, with each track contributing to a larger sense of narrative tension and thematic purpose.

“Once we finalized ‘Sever the Horizon,’ everything else clicked. The songs that made the cut all share a certain weight and atmosphere; they feel like they belong in the same world,” says Dave.

About:

Accursed is a Connecticut‑based melodic death metal band formed in 2019. Their sound fuses atmospheric melody, technical aggression, and modern heaviness, resulting in a style that is both familiar and forward‑thinking. Lyrically, the band explores themes of consequence, internal fracture, mythology, trauma, and the quiet violence of everyday existence. With a sharpened lineup and an uncompromising creative vision, Accursed are poised to make a distinct mark on the melodic death metal landscape.

-30-

“Lyrically, this new one is a furious condemnation of Christianity, joining a near-endless line of metal songs with a similar theme. Musically, it’s a hell-raiser too, a furiously vicious melodic death metal discharge. The screamed vocals are hair-raising in their intensity. The riffing blares like sirens, feverishly slashes like blood-crusted swords, and dismally roils. The drums methodically snap and maniacally clatter. The fleet-fingered soloing is exultant but also fluidly sinister. The song proves to be not just hostile but also eventually steeped in misery and dismay. It also proves to be highly groovesome, and good reason to check out Accursed‘s previous releases this year.” -Islander – No Clean Singing – (Beneath A Burning Sky Single 2025)

====================================================

About The Single:

Although the writing for Sever the Horizon was completed over a year ago, it became the catalyst for the rest of the album, setting both the tonal direction and the level of compositional complexity that eventually pulled the full track list together. Lyrically, it tells the story of Richard ‘Sky King’ Russell and the Horizon Air Incident of August 10, 2018, approaching it through a more interpretive lens. The song explores the emotional and psychological headspace he may have been in, while surmising the surreal physical experience and the overwhelming beauty and uncertainty of what he was witnessing in his final moments.

We intentionally avoided direct callouts or any attempt to explain or glorify his actions, recognizing that much of it is ultimately unknowable. Instead, the focus is on perspective and wholly human experience within a tragic and widely discussed moment. It’s a story that resonated with a lot of people when it happened, and we hope that the song connects similarly, maybe offering listeners something to reflect on and even relate to in their own struggles.

About The Single Artwork:

We went back and forth on the artwork quite a bit because, honestly, we didn’t have a clear direction right away. We even had Dimas scrap the initial concept and take it in a completely different direction once we realized it didn’t really reflect who we are stylistically.

What we ended up with feels a lot more like a visual metaphor for confronting and battling your inner demons. It ties directly into the core themes of the song and in a lot of ways, says what we’re trying to express without needing to spell it out.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:
1. Who is Justin Dupree? That’s a great question. Honestly, we’ve been asking ourselves that ever since recording our first EP, Ascension.

We were tracking vocals for The Way Out at Hat City Music Productions, and mid-take, the engineer Chris Litwin stops Will and asks him to redo a line, something like, ‘do that Justin Dupree part again’. The actual lyrics are “dust and debris”, but from that moment, it was over.

A legend was born, and now none of us can hear that line any other way.

2. During the recording of our first EP, it felt like the universe was actively testing whether the release was supposed to happen when we thought it was. The first sign came during our final vocal session when lightning struck the studio. We watched it arc from a power strip to a pipe in the room we were standing in. It fried some of the gear, but luckily, all our recordings made it through untouched. Then, just as things moved into mixing and mastering with Studio Wormwood, the Asheville area was hit with historic flooding that devastated the community. We were watching it unfold in real time, not knowing what it meant for the project, but incredibly, the studio itself was spared. At the time, we were anxious to get the music out as quickly as possible, but looking back, it felt like something was telling us to slow down and pay attention. Since then, we’ve tried to be more in tune with that because when we are, things tend to fall into place in ways we can’t really plan for. Opportunities show up out of nowhere, and we’ve learned to just stay ready, trust the process, and keep doing things the right way.

3. At this point, most of the process has moved in-house. All of the guitars, bass, and vocals are tracked out of my home studio, where I also handle the producing, engineering, and reamping. It’s given us a lot more control over the sound and the pace of how we work, which has been huge for dialing things in exactly how we want them.

Drums are the one piece we can’t quite accommodate yet due to space, so we track those at Dexter’s Lab with Nick Bellmore (Many Eyes, Dee Snider, Jasta, and more). It’s a great balance, keeping most of the process in-house while still bringing in someone with his experience to help capture the energy on the drum side.

4. On a long weekend run through Virginia and North Carolina last year, we really tested the limits of Japanese engineering. We hitched a U-Haul trailer to Dave’s Subaru Crosstrek and somehow fit five fully grown adults(?) into it for what ended up being about 25 hours of driving. If you ever get the opportunity to pack half a ton of dudes into a crossover SUV for a road trip… don’t. Just rent the van. Trust me.

Accursed began in 2019 against the urban backdrop of Connecticut as a singular creative reaction to the extremes of modern metal; a project aimed at blending the melodic sophistication of classic melodic death metal with the intensity of contemporary heavy music.

Across the band’s formative years, the lineup shifted several times, each change refining the group’s direction rather than diluting it. These early transitions were a workshop – players came and went, arrangements were tested, and the band’s songwriting deepened. Rather than slowing momentum, the process strengthened Accursed’s identity, resulting in tighter compositions and a clearer sonic blueprint.

The band’s last single, “Beneath A Burning Sky,” was received extremely well, outperforming their previous releases in the first 3 months and being featured on The Circle Pit’s YouTube channel and on No Clean Singing blog.

In late 2025, Accursed entered a new phase of creative chemistry with a new lineup that will carry the band into the future. Currently putting the finishing touches on pre-production for their debut full-length, Accursed is readying a record that emphasizes dynamic contrasts, harmonized guitar work, and melodic hooks balanced against pummeling rhythm sections and visceral vocals.

Sonically, Accursed sits squarely in the melodic death metal tradition but refuses to be a pastiche. Fans can expect modern production clarity and arrangements that make space for both aggression and atmosphere. Lyrically, the band explores themes of consequence, internal fracture, and the quiet violence of everyday existence, all delivered with concise, evocative imagery that complements the music’s intensity.

Looking ahead, Accursed is focused on finishing the album and not just building on the past but blowing it away entirely. With an uncompromising creative vision, Accursed is poised to make a distinct mark on the melodic death metal landscape.

TORCHIA Unleashes New Album “They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness” – A Defining Statement of Blackened Melodic Death Metal

+ European Tour May 2026!

Finnish extreme metal force Torchia officially unleashes their fourth studio album “They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness” today via Rockshots Records, marking the culmination of a campaign that has steadily elevated the band among the most compelling emerging names within the modern European extreme metal landscape.

Following the strong international response to the singles “Stygian Waters”, “Nekromanteion” and “Hellmouth”, the full-length now reveals the complete scope of Torchia’s most ambitious and conceptually cohesive work to date – an album where blackened melodic death metal, gothic horror aesthetics and orchestral grandeur converge into a singular artistic vision.

Hailing from Tampere, Finland, Torchia has spent the last few years refining a distinctive identity rooted in thrash-infused melodic death metal while progressively embracing darker atmospheres, narrative-driven songwriting, and orchestral arrangements. With “They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness”, the band fully expands the cursed universe introduced across previous releases, transporting listeners into a grim 19th-century vision populated by occult rituals, infernal imagery, supernatural entities, and gothic horror-inspired storytelling.

Produced and mixed by Janne Saksa and mastered by legendary producer Dan Swanö, the album pushes Torchia toward a broader and more atmospheric sonic dimension without sacrificing the aggressive guitar-driven foundation that has defined the band since its inception. The result is a record that balances memorable hooks, crushing riffs, blackened atmospherics, and technical intensity with remarkable precision.

Tracks such as “Hellmouth”, “The Tiamat Machine” and “Sanguine Masquerade” showcase the band’s evolving songwriting approach, where triumphant lead melodies, dark orchestral passages and relentless extreme metal aggression coexist naturally. Meanwhile, songs like “Black Cat” and “Stygian Waters” reconnect with the rawer spirit of Torchia’s earlier material, creating a dynamic and absorbing listening experience that continuously shifts between violence, atmosphere, and melodic grandeur.

Speaking about the album, the band states:

“On ‘They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness’, the cursed realm of Torchia is more realized than ever before. The strange tales of gothic horror come alive in a shadowed vision of the 19th century.”

And further adds:

“With ‘They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness, ’ we tried to strike a balance between memorable songwriting and technical aggression. On this album, we are introducing a darker and more expansive soundscape to support the vivid storytelling of the lyrics, yet the musical foundation of Torchia remains in the guitar-driven extreme metal our fans know and love.”

Over the course of the campaign, Torchia has demonstrated a clear artistic evolution from the more traditional thrash-oriented roots of their early years toward a darker and more expansive sound, drawing comparisons to acts such as Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom.

With “They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness”, Torchia does not simply continue the path opened by “Arcane Magicae” – they consolidate it with greater confidence, stronger songwriting, and a far more cohesive conceptual framework, delivering what stands as the band’s definitive statement to date and one of the most distinctive extreme metal releases to emerge from Finland in recent years.

“They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness” is available now on all digital platforms and physical formats via Rockshots Records.

For fans of Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, and Children of Bodom.

About: Formed in Tampere, Finland, Torchia has steadily carved out a distinctive identity within the extreme metal scene by blending thrash-infused melodic death metal with dark fantasy, gothic horror, and cinematic atmospheres. Since their early years, the band has continuously evolved both musically and conceptually, expanding a cursed narrative universe populated by ancient gods, occult practices, and grim mythological visions.

With each release, Torchia has pushed further into darker and more theatrical territory. While their core remains firmly rooted in guitar-driven extreme metal, their sound has grown increasingly cinematic and blackened, incorporating dramatic arrangements and a heightened sense of atmosphere without sacrificing aggression or immediacy. Elements of classic heavy and power metal melody remain a key influence shaping their songwriting approach and reinforcing their dynamic, memorable structures.

Their fourth full-length album, “They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness“, represents a defining chapter in the band’s artistic journey. Set against a bleak, 19th-century-inspired gothic backdrop, the album brings Torchia’s storytelling to life through vivid tales of horror, superstition, and doom, uniting narrative depth with relentless musical force.

Renowned for their intense and visceral live performances, Torchia have built a strong reputation as a formidable stage act. At the center of the spectacle stands masked frontman Nox, a commanding and symbolic figure who embodies the dark curse at the heart of the band’s identity, guiding audiences deep into Torchia’s shadowed world.

Canadian extreme metal band Without Mercy will unleash their new EP, “Infinite Loss,” on May 8th, delivering one of the most intentional, intense, and creatively defining statements of their nearly two‑decade career. To mark the release, the band has partnered with Metal Insider for the exclusive premiere of the full EP stream, alongside the debut of the lyric video for the title track, “Infinite Loss.”

The EP arrives following the rollout of previously released singles “Glass” and “The Saint,” each offering a distinct glimpse into the record’s emotional weight, sonic restraint, and thematic depth.

Guitarist DJ Temple describes “Infinite Loss” as the result of a transformative and deliberately uncomfortable creative process:

“This was the first time we left home to make a record. We crossed borders, uprooted our routines, and committed fully to the process by living inside it for ten days. There was no comfort, no distance, and no way to step away.”

The band built the EP around three songs that genuinely excited them, not as singles, but as statements. Every decision had to earn its place.

“The result is something we are proud of, not because it represents a direction we chased, but because it reflects who we were in that moment and what we were willing to commit to,” adds Temple.

For the first time, Without Mercy worked with a producer at a deep structural level, embracing tension, disagreement, and collaboration as essential parts of the process.

“This record exists because we chose to be uncomfortable, to argue honestly, and to stay in the room until it felt right,” says Temple.

Lyrically, “Infinite Loss” is about being hunted, not once, but repeatedly. The threats shift, but they never disappear. Economic pressure, identity, time, survival, and expectation all close in at once. The record speaks to the modern experience across the Americas: not victimhood, but endurance under relentless pursuit.

Musically, the EP mirrors that pressure through repetition, density, and restraint. Riffs sit heavy and suffocating. Rhythms feel physical and deliberate. The aggression is controlled rather than chaotic, creating a sense of inevitability rather than release.

Opening title track, “Infinite Loss,” with its repetition, density, and deliberate pacing, creates a suffocating sense of inevitability. Middle song, “The Saint”, is the EP’s biggest stylistic departure, leaning into space, tension, and unfamiliar structure. EP closer, “Glass”, interconnects riffs inspired by Meshuggah and Alluvial, tightening inward until the outro opens with scale and finality.

Without Mercy was formed in 2007, blending groove, extreme metal, and technical precision into a sound described as “heavy and insightful at the same time.” The band has shared stages with Cattle Decapitation, Aborted, and Death Angel, and has appeared as downloadable content in Rock Band 3, bridging gaming culture and heavy music.

Their discography includes “All Else Fails” (2007), “Without Mercy” (2009), “Reborn” (2014), rereleased as “Mouichido” (2016), and “Seismic” (2020). “Infinite Loss” marks their most focused and intentional work to date, a release built from collapse, rebuilt through discipline, and finished with absolute conviction.

““The Saint” is somehow both maniacal and controlled. In its opening couple of minutes it seems to be a carefully calibrated convulsion, discharging its myriad sensations in quick stop-start bursts of seemingly off-kilter but tightly executed mayhem. Those sensations include sledgehammer rhythmic brutishness, shrill and spidery fretwork-delirium, and napalm-strength vocals. The grooves are there — grooves of differing kinds — but they quickly jackhammer listeners in the midst of harrowing howls, scorching screams, and a multitude of fleet-fingered but berserk and discordant string contortions. Moreover, at the 2:18 mark the song suddenly and dramatically changes — indeed, it’s difficult to overstate just how dramatic the change is. In place of all the frenetically bursting frequencies the lead guitar gently rings and seductively warps above gravel-toned bass-lines and steady beats, an interlude that brings hints of jazz fusion to mind. That’s just a quick breather before the song’s intensity blazes again, and yet the segue back into the finale of bludgeoning grooves and squirming guitars is a smooth and near-seamless one.” – No Clean Singing

“Without Mercy’s New Album Is A Whirlwind of Sonic Punishment” – The Pit (Seismic – 2020)

“Right from the start (Uprooted), Without Mercy set the bar high for their extremity, aiming for something far more chaotic. The opening is a mix between the pure grind-death akin to that of Cattle Decapitation, and the math metal sound of Protest the Hero.”- Metal Injection (Seismic – 2020)

“pay witness (I Break The Chain) to their thrashy death metal a la Cattle Decapitation, Meshuggah and Decapitated and watch as they adorn the blast beats and breakdowns with beer guts and brogues.” – Decibel Magazine (Seismic – 2020)

“…To put it simply: the band does an incredible job of blending their grooves with their growls. Between segments of death, doom, and shreddy guitar solos that absolutely slay, there are moments of satisfying melodic breakdowns, and cutting riffs to die for… Seismic is full of lyrics that hold true and poignant meaning while using powerful imagery to evoke epic scenes of turbulent life and painful decay in the minds eye… ground-shaking album. 4/5” – Metal-Rules (Seismic – 2020)

“Overall, two elements really struck me here…one was the level of intensity, and the other the level of musicianship from the band. How they can remain unsigned is a mystery to me. They play with such a tight synergy that it’s almost like they can finish each other’s sentences before they even open their mouth.” – Metal Temple (Seismic – 2020)

“While the heavy metal name generator might have had something to do with what this meaty metal unit called themselves, you can’t say it doesn’t fit. Without Mercy are pretty damn *ahem* merciless and to cap that off, their new album is so aptly titled. Seismic…a relentless powerhouse that is akin to tectonic plates smashing into each other. There is no fucking mercy and it’s fucking glorious. Excuse the swearing but that’s how this album makes you feel. It makes you feel like a beast. It makes you feel capable of taking on the world. It’s chunky, it’s thick, it’s chokingly devastating and undoubtedly one to be remembered.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life (Seismic – 2020)

“The thrash-stomp modes on “Worthless” ring like a head-on collision between DECAPITATED and BIOHAZARD with a dash of power metal thrown into the solo section. Alex Friis wrings his throat to huge extremes, hopefully leaving tissue intact as he hits agonizing squeals while throwing indictments against former band members — guess on your own who that might entail. DJ Temple’s guitar work on “Worthless” is terrific..” (Mouchido EP 2016) – Blabbermouth

“Vancouver’s Without Mercy is a prime example of how putting in a little bit of elbow grease can result in advantageous outcomes. The quartet play their brand of melodic, groove-laden death metal independently, but refuse to remain held back by a lack in the promotional and money machine backing departments. Over the course of a decade or so, the band has experienced the same highs and lows as most others, but their successes – which include a small handful of recordings, a bigger handful of tours, and appearances in video games – have been felt at a deeper clip because they’ve essentially managed everything themselves.” (Mouchido EP 2016) – Decibel Magazine

“In a word, the music rips. And it also thunders, and punches so fast and hard that it’s like a jackhammer-sized nail gun ramming bolts into concrete at high speed while the operator howls and shrieks for all he’s worth, segmented by a start-stop breakdown that will give your skull a good rattling and lit up by swarming guitar flurries that are as fiery as the torches in the video (Burn).” (Mouchido EP 2016) – No Clean Singing

Greek Folk Melodic Death KOSMOGONIA Shares New “Oblivion” Guitar Playthrough Video

Sophomore Album “Aella” Out Now! (Rockshots Records)

Athens-based folk melodic death metal force Kosmogonia have released the official guitar playthrough video for “Oblivion”, a powerful, emotionally charged track from their sophomore album “Aella”.

Driven by aggressive riffing, melodic lead work, and dark pagan atmospheres, “Oblivion” captures the band’s distinctive fusion of melodic death metal ferocity, symphonic arrangements, and evocative folk elements. The playthrough video offers an up-close look at the intricate guitar interplay and dynamic songwriting that shape Kosmogonia’s sound – balancing mythological grandeur with modern extreme metal intensity.

Formed in Athens in 2015, Kosmogonia have steadily established themselves within the European folk and melodic death metal scene through a sound deeply rooted in ancient mythology, pagan traditions, and epic storytelling. Their second full-length album, “Aella,” received strong praise across Europe and Latin America, earning recognition from Metal Hammer Portugal and expanding the band’s international visibility. Through Rockshots Records, the album now reaches a broader international audience while the band simultaneously works on new material for its next studio chapter.

Set in 350 B.C., “Aella” tells a tragic story of war, destiny, and forbidden emotion following the encounter between the Scythian princess Aella and the Greek mercenary Lykon during a brutal conflict between civilizations. Across the album, Kosmogonia combine dual vocal dynamics, atmospheric flute passages, layered orchestrations, and modern melodic death metal aggression into a powerful and immersive listening experience.

For fans of Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Epica, and Nightwish.

Biography

Formed in Athens in 2015, Kosmogonia fuse folk melodies and symphonic textures with the ferocity of melodic death metal. Founders Kostas Magalios (guitar/vocals) and Christos Drosos (guitar) debuted with the demo “Fallen Pegasus” and, later that year, a self-released EP. After a stylistic shift in 2017 marked by the single “Triiris,” the band built momentum through Greek festival appearances and international radio play. Their debut album, titled “Enthrone the Gods,” released in 2020, earned a 9.1/10 average review score, a Metal Hammer Portugal mention, and multiple chart placements across Europe and Latin America. Despite the pandemic, Kosmogonia accepted an invitation to Hammer Fest XIV in Birmingham – rescheduled to February 2023 – and delivered a standout performance at the O₂ Academy alongside genre stalwarts such as Lordi and Primordial. Now five years on from their formation, the band returned with “Aella” (January 2025), expanding their epic scope with richer orchestrations and guest folk instruments. With strong international press, radio support, and a dedicated fanbase, Kosmogonia stands poised for extensive touring and further mythic adventures.
