NEWS RELEASE

Toronto’s Prospects Announce Intriguing New Prog Track “Orphic Trigger” Off EP “Recalling”

EP “Recalling” Out September 4th

Progressive metal act Prospects have unleashed a new single “Orphic Trigger” coming from the upcoming four-track EP “Recalling” due out September 4th, 2020.

Founded in 2014 by multi-instrumentalists Robert Medeiros, Prospects combines influences from acts like Opeth and The Contortionist for chillingly heavy tracks with multiple layers. In a niche, but thriving genre, the band aims to broaden their horizons and bring together fans from different backgrounds, united by a love of heavy and experimental music. The band explains one of the unique challenges they had when recording this album:

“Since there is some distance between band members, we all recorded/tracked the instrumentals on our own, compiled them into an organized folder, and sent them to be mixed and mastered by Jamie King. Vocals were recorded by Mike Indovina.”

“Orphic Trigger” can be enjoyed as individual songs or as an entire EP experience; with only 4 songs, but 32 minutes of audio you can rest assured that each song is its own adventure entirely. Even though there are snippets of a storyline from the previous album, 2017’s “Calling Of A Red Bird”, they all feel original and cohesive.

With Medeiros on vocals, keys, and guitar, Matt Dalton on guitar and vocals, drummer Anthony Zicari and bassist Mathew Lothian, Prospects builds a catalogue of melodic and rhythmic interest, looking outside of metal to genres like jazz, orchestral, and world music for further inspiration. Perfect for deep thinking, subculture aficionados, lovers of the outdoors, hipsters, and geeks, Prospects weaves together technicality with melody.

For fans of Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist and Opeth, Prospects is heavy, melodic, and exotic.

“Orphic Trigger” is now available as of August 7, 2020 and can be heard on the following links:
YouTube
Bandcamp
IGTV

along with Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, Amazon HERE.

The full “Recalling” EP will be released on September 4, 2020.

EPKAbout:
Prospects is a Toronto progressive metal band founded in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Robert Medeiros. Generally inspired by modern metal and acts from numerous other genres Prospects released their debut “The Calling of a Red Bird” in 2017 as a foray into the plethora of bedroom level studio albums.

Following this advent, Medeiros took a short hiatus to refine his songwriting and production skills. He would meet guitarist Matt Dalton in 2019 and form the initial line up with Mathew Lothian on bass shortly after.

With the initial 2017 release of Calling of a Red Bird utilizing midi drums, the group was looking for a real drummer that could fill the role. After posting in several online forums and Facebook groups, it wasn’t too long before finding drummer Anthony Zicari and things fell into place.

As rehearsals became a regular thing and a few songs started shaping up the band aimed to find their way onto local bills around the GTA (greater Toronto area).

Back to the recording sessions, the band has been working on their new EP “Recalling” expected for release in 2020. Working with Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Etc) for mixing and mastering, the band is confident a great product for the masses. The EP “Recalling” is a collection of old and new material, showcasing where the band has come from, but also where they are heading!

Earth’s Yellow Sun Begin Illustrating Prog Masterpiece “The Infernal Machine” With Intense Animated Videos

“The Infernal Machine” Celebrates 5 Years!

Five years ago Toronto’s Earth’s Yellow Sun released their sophomore EP “The Infernal Machine”. Now to celebrate the anniversary of that EP, they are re-releasing the tracks in the form of animated videos starting at the beginning with “Part I – Assembly”.

The concept album is the perfect soundtrack to these videos, the premise lying in a futuristic society, the dependency on technology and artificial intelligence, and the conflict that arises between man and machine. Guitarist Josh Hanff shares his excitement for this project:

“The release in question, The Infernal Machine was actually released exactly five years ago, but we are releasing this comic book video concept for the five-year anniversary.  The project has been in the works between myself and a couple of artists since the actual album was completed, and we’re really excited to be able to finally show our fans (and potential fans) the story behind the music, which was always in my mind (and my co-producer’s mind) as we created the album back in 2014/2015. “

“Part I – Assembly” is an introduction to the world and its characters. We see the process of the machine being made and programmed, culminating in the grand reveal to the public. This audiovisual experience is experimental, thought-provoking, and deeply artistic. Four more pieces of the story are to follow over the next couple of months.

An incredible mix of guitars, saxophone, choir, violins, and a heavy rhythm section, Earth’s Yellow Sun is difficult to label yet easy to enjoy. Recommended for fans of Periphery, Dream Theater, and Animals as Leaders, the first video of five can be viewed at the following link:

Track Listing:
1. Part I – Assembly (6:09)
2. Part II – Unveiling (2:58)
3. Part III – Betrayal (3:31)
4. Part IV – Bastion (3:12)
5. Part V – Rapture (7:14)

About:

Difficult to Label; Easy to Enjoy

We are Earth’s Yellow Sun, an instrumental band hailing from Toronto, Canada. While often described as “progressive metal”, you’ll quickly find that it’s not so simple to label us – our unique approach to writing music is unlike anything you’ve heard before. Blending a crushingly heavy rhythm section with soaring melodic saxophone lines and funky organ pads, Earth’s Yellow Sun is like the love child of Periphery and Snarky Puppy that you didn’t know you needed in your life.

Our most recent release “Under the Covers” features our cover arrangements of three songs from vastly different corners of the musical world, featuring collaborations with some talented vocalists. From the progressive rock realm, we cover Rush’s “Overture 2112/The Temples of Syrinx”, featuring the incredible Rody Walker of Protest the Hero. From jazz territory, we cover pianist Tigran Hamasyan’s instrumental rhythmic mind-bender “Entertain Me”. And from the pop world, we cover the Backstreet Boys hit “Larger Than Life”, featuring the vocals of Lauren Babic of Red Handed Denial.

As an instrumental band, we rely on our music to convey our stories. Our sophomore release “The Infernal Machine” is a concept record that chronicles a futuristic society’s dependence on technology and artificial intelligence, and the ensuing conflict between man and machine. The creation of this EP saw us venture further into experimental territory, incorporating unconventional instrumentation such as violin, choir, and tabla into sound.

Earth’s Yellow Sun was initially conceived in 2014, while we were attending Humber College’s music program. After bonding over our mutual interest in heavy progressive music, and our shared desire to write innovative music of our own, we formed a school ensemble where we first toyed with the idea of incorporating saxophones into a metal band. This experiment proved to be a great success, and Earth’s Yellow Sun rose from the ashes of the school ensemble once classes came to an end.

Our unique and eclectic sound allows us to fit into a variety of different concert bills. Since our live debut in 2015, we have been fortunate enough to share the stage with several notable acts, including Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Intervals, Intronaut, Plini, Thank You Scientist, Moon Tooth, Auras, and Red Handed Denial. We greatly look forward to returning to the stage as soon as we can, bigger and better than ever.

“Canadian death metal executioners Sadistic Embodiment have emerged from their quarantine torture chamber to release their first LP, Blood Spell. After establishing their brutality across three EPs, they’re ready to give the world a global enema on their full-length debut… Sadistic Embodiment will appeal to fans who want both mosh-ready slams and razorblade riffing. ” – Decibel Magazine

“The band’s new album, Blood Spell is full of hooks, riffs, blasts, and blends of old and new school death metal. Plus, Sadistic Embodiment shows you can throw Bryan Newbury (Into Eternity, Untimely Demise) behind the kit in any band and make gold out of the drumming… Early on in the album, one of the first songs to come across is “Gallows Hill”. This song probably features the most riffs of any on the album, but one key part of Sadistic Embodiment is the lyrics. This is a band focused on telling a story with each song moreso than just trying to write the heaviest death metal out there. “- Metal Injection

“Edmonton’s Sadistic Embodiment Channel Their Disdain for the Modern World on ‘Blood Spell'” – Exclaim!

“Canadian metal outfit Sadistic Embodiment are gearing up for their new album, Blood Spell, out September 18th via CDN Records. The follow-up to their three consecutive EP’s Beloved Imprisonment (2019), Blodörn (2018), and Self-Titled (2018) is promised to be a continuation of their ruthless death diversity ranging from similarities of Gojira, Rotting Christ, to Bloodbath and Kataklysm.” – Metal Insider

“The album weaves back and forth between thrash and full-on death metal, with surging hooks aplenty and a good deal of genuine catchiness – especially over the album’s front half – topped by the bark, growls and shrieks of bassist Curtis Vieville and guitarists Wally Fischer and Jason Cullen.” – Metal Rules

“Pure and unadulterated death metal is at hand in the band’s assault, but don’t expect it to dull your senses as it continues. There’s a number of dark melodies that weave their way into the sound and craft some catchy moments that keep it brutal but still quite memorable. Not to mention some heavy grooves (see “Flesh Deposition”) that are definitely going to catch some ears. A rather promising debut for extreme music fans to dig into.” – DeadRhetoric

“By the time “Cerebral Termination” hits, “Blood Spell” isn’t a record you want to reach a conclusion. The tracks get better and better as it plays through from high quality starting point and the ideas and nuances just keep coming. Another one with seriously impressive lead work, it fades out all too soon. 8.5/10″ – Metal Noise

“this is a meaty chunk of Death Metal… The songs are mostly mid-paced and full of pummeling, grooving riffs and unrelenting heaviness, but what helps set this apart from the masses are the startling tremolo sections and some deeply impressive lead work, which contains a keen sense of melody along with a degree of musicality that you don’t often see in the genre… an enjoyable release from a talented band, and fans of more technical Death Metal will want to give it a listen. 3.75/5” – The Metal Crypt

“a very good Metal album that satisfies your inner sadist.” 8/10 – Thorium Mag

“Well, with that name, logo and cover you might think, “They play Death Metal”. Well… Correct. And a very good one. It was a very good surprise while listening to this album.” – Blessed Altar Zine

The sadistic death metal quartet was originally conceived in Edmonton, Alberta. Although all Edmonton born half of the group now resides in Calgary, travelling frequently to join the others in crafting extreme musical works. Each member brings their own distinct flair to the music, live theatrics, and social media content.

Drummer Bryan Newbury (also known from Into Eternity, Untimely Demise) formed the project in the fall of 2017 by inviting Curtis Vieville and Helge Lipphardt to jam simple and catchy death metal. A couple of months later, Jason Cullen joined the group and then Nate Mandrusiak joined shortly thereafter, forming the five-piece that produced their Self-Titled (March 30th, 2018) and Blodørn (September 8th, 2018) EPs. Curtis Vieville left to travel for the summer of 2018, leaving the band to record bass and vocals for the Blodørn release on his behalf.

During the late fall of 2018, the group parted ways with Helge Lipphardt and brought on Curtis’ old bandmate Wally Fischer. Continuing their relentless musical onslaught the group wrote and released the EP Beloved Imprisonment on January 31st, 2019, showcasing their evolved sound. But the work was far from over and after a few gigs, the group began work constructing their first full-length album. During that period the band parted ways with their singer Nate in early 2020, and from thereafter the group became a three-pronged vocal assault team.

Completing their work in the spring of 2020, the milestone album “Blood Spell” was finally realized. As if sensing the impending debut, CDN Records approached the band with a record deal just as the final touches were being completed. And thus Sadistic Embodiment joined the CDN Records family.

Each release from Sadistic Embodiment grows in depth and complexity while maintaining simple and heavy death metal passages. They pride themselves on having catchy choruses intermixed with powerful and epic melodies. The newest material exhibits dark soundscapes with a lot of variation in song type and feel. Listen closely and you will find evil and pain lurking in the mix

“Blood Spell” is due out September 18, 2020 via CDN Records.

New EP “Wings of Agony” Out Now!

Canada’s Lutharö unleashed their sophomore EP “Wings of Agony” this past March. More innovative and imaginative than their debut EP “Unleash The Beast”, Lutharö stepped out of their comfort zone for “Wings of Agony”. Their catchy riffs, blazing solos, and vocals ranging from vicious growls to cleans are sure to send a chill down your spine, making them a well-rounded powerhouse of a band that brings beauty, aggression, and skill to the genre.

Today, the band is ready to share their latest music video for fan favourite “Blood Lightning”.

The band explains the video and track:

“The song ‘Blood Lightning’ is about having such an extreme passion for something so much so that it sets your soul on fire, for better or for worse. It is the endless struggle of putting your blood, sweat, and tears into something and receiving next to nothing in return. However, when you do catch a glimpse of your progress, it is enough to keep pushing forward even when you are constantly being beaten down and put to war. The music video for ‘Blood Lightning’ showcases all of the physical, emotional, financial, etc. Hard work that is put into pursuing your dreams in music. The shots taken to look like the set of a video shoot are meant to resemble the business aspect/ behind the scenes work of being a musician, but also the high of performing live and seeing your visions come to life. While the single shots of each member in the middle of a storm are meant to display the emotional sacrifices and hardships that each individual goes through.”

“Blood Lightning” can be viewed via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

“Along comes Canada, showing the world that independent unsigned metal bands can kick just as much ass, if not more, than any act on the Nuclear Blasts or Metal Blades or Roadrunners out there. Now on their third EP since 2015, Ontario’s Lutharö keep going from strength to strength as their sound expands… pick up Wings Of Agony – digitally or physically – and support independent artists who are as good as this. If the sheer impact behind Lutharö can’t convince you that the metal community continues to go from strength to strength, then I do not want to be your friend. 9/10. Fantastic.” – Metal Observer

“Bringing a fresh take on Heavy Metal to listeners around the world, this up-and-coming Canadian band returns with a darker yet still very melodic sound in their brand new (and excellent) EP… Krista and her henchmen are undeniably talented, crazy for metal music and extremely focused on what they do, spreading their wings all over Canada and soon the world with their breathtaking music for our total delight.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Should you feel the need for either power metal or melodic death metal that’s just a little bit different, “Wings of Agony” is definitely for you.” – Skull Fracturing Metal

“Epic in its ambition, scope and delivery, it is a powerhouse of a release, combining elements of power metal and thrash with accurate alactrity. With each of the five songs linked by a theme of following your dreams and passions, it has a consistency of approach that permeates every pore of its being. The songs are superbly written and constructed, with plenty of thought put into them, and this is aided by the hugely complementary performances from each of the five band members, and especially the wonderful use of clean and growled vocals… sort of like Lacuna Coil but without the symphonic elements. This is a magnificent slice of powerful heavy metal from a band that deserve every accolade that will undoubtedly come their way when this hits the shelves at the end of the month. Glorious in extremis.” – Uber Rock

About:

WoR is a groove metal quintet from Raleigh, North Carolina. Their music combines aggressive riffs, harmonic leads, and tasteful breakdowns with the infectious anti-authoritarian lyrics of vocalist Bobby DeMoss.

WoR was founded in 2018 by guitarist Ben Kaiser who at the time was finishing up his college football career playing offensive line at NC State. The band was initially an escape from the rigors of the sport, and at the end of his career, he decided to give the band a legitimate go.

After cycling through a variety of members early on, WoR was joined by Bobby Demoss, the charismatic frontman who has the ability to draw in even the toughest crowd; his unique screaming style and passionate lyrics helped shape WoR’s groundbreaking identity from the get-go. In 2019, Phil Funderburk, the glue who keeps the band and the music together, joined on bass; David Nisoff, in charge of mind-blowing solos that capture everyone’s attention, joined as the second guitarist, and Hunter Crews, a consistent timekeeper and a seasoned veteran in the music business solidified the lineup as the bands’ drummer.

By the spring of 2019, WoR had begun to debut their music at live shows throughout the southeast region of the United States and played with the likes of Upon A Burning Body, Atilla, and Warbringer just to name a few.

Working collaboratively, WoR’s music focuses on various different current events using powerful lyrics to offer a unique insight into the things going on in our lives and in the world. After working closely with producer Joe Alonzo Potts and audio engineer Shaun Singerling, they plan to release their debut album “Prisoners” on August 7th, 2020, which features brutal tracks such as ‘Caged’ and ‘Predator’ in addition to melodic anthems such as ‘VI King’s.

In 2020 and 2021, WoR has extensive tours scheduled to support the release of their debut album “Prisoners”. WoR’s live shows are extremely energetic with fan involvement being a common theme. Demoss does a phenomenal job of breaking down the fourth wall and getting the crowd involved at their shows making way for insane mosh pits. It is the band’s credo that they give it their all for whatever time they are on stage whether they are playing to 2,000 people or 200 people.

Rockshots Records Signs Finnish Rockers SERPICO For Forthcoming Album “Chosen Four”

New Album “Chosen Four” Coming In 2020

Produced by Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Hanna Pakarinen, Teräsbetoni)

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their latest signing of Finnish sleazy rockers Serpico for the release of their new album “Chosen Four” coming in late 2020. The album is produced by platinum-selling Finnish record producer Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Hanna Pakarinen, Teräsbetoni).

Album Trailer – HERE.

“We are so excited to welcome Serpico to our artist roster! You can’t get anywhere else a band like Serpico, with their genuine rock n’ roll and sleazy style. The new album “Chosen Four”, with producer Anssi Kippo on board, will blow you away!”

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS
1. Prospects started out as one person (Robert) and didn’t grow to be a band until 2019.
2. Robert’s first album “Calling Of A Red Bird” was a concept album he had thought of himself.
3. Two members Robert and Matt both have been employees at a music store for a number of years. Matt Dalton and Anthony Zicari have both obtained their degree in music and are music educators, teaching music part time.
4. Since there is some distance between band members we all recorded/tracked the instrumentals on our own, compiled them into an organized folder and sent them to be mixed and mastered by Jamie King. Vocals were recorded by Mike Indovina.

About:

“a 5-part, 23 minute long prog rock song of epic proportions.” – Can This Even Be Called Music

“the band has great potential as they carry forth their Prog torches and bear witness to the world of Prog.” – Progressively So

“Hometown boys Earth’s Yellow Sun were first to take the stage, and they did a marvellous job – especially considering that they were a last-minute addition to the bill, replacing the great Angel Vivaldi. Also impressive was the fact that their usual lineup of sax players was absent, and they were forced to find a replacement in the form of Shanna Hanko, who learned all of the required arrangements within 48 hours. They performed a few tracks from their first EP, as well as parts two and three of ‘The Infernal Machine’. I said it the last time I saw them: these guys are going places.” – Metal Wani (Live Review – Toronto – 2016 Opening for Intervals & Plini)

STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. The band is consistently featured on Spectre Media Group’s (Glenn Fricker) YouTube videos as backing music, as well as occasionally having members featured on the show. The band has had a long relationship with Glenn Fricker, having recorded both Marzena and No Beer In Heaven.

2. Four out of five of the members are bilingual.

3. Often at shows and in music videos, they have ‘beer maidens’ or wenches; women in white dresses and corsets who come out on stage and pour willing audience members beer from a sacred Viking horn.

4. Bassist Davey Slowiak and frontman Martin Drozd are the only consistent original members since their inception in 2003.

5. The new album “Transcending the Ruins” was recorded at Union Sound studios in Toronto with Darren Mcgill and features an eclectic variety of talented guests from various other groups.

“they’ve got a good sense of humor, and they sound top-notch” – Metal Sucks

“boozy blast of heathen prog” – Team Rock

“Le metal a du talent.”  – Metal France

“Ah this album was a pleasure to review. So many albums are a slog to get through, but I was sorry when No Beer In Heaven ended…All the band are excellent musicians and you can hear their joy at playing their music. Ekaterina brings another dimension to the band too; her vocals are nothing you’ve heard in metal before, and I love the touch she brings with the woodwind instruments…I love the track “Get Me A Beer” – it could be marketed as a cure for depression. Elsewhere, the contrast between folk and metal works very harmoniously: heavy and uplifting at the same time. Joyous stuff! The band also have a good sense of humour, and while they can be serious, this is an enjoyable life-affirming album to listen to, which is as it should be. Our lives are brief; we should try and enjoy our spell on this earth! I love the album artwork and presentation too. This is a band the world needs to hear more of. Highly recommended! – Hellbound

“a superb album. Protokult gives folk-metal a new nice dimension. Their progressive folk-metal approach is a very delicious one. Don’t let the ‘beer-titles’ fool you, the band goals are far beyond beer-humpaa. They’re far more serious, despite of the sometimes quite merry tunes. This is one of the best folk-metal albums I’ve heard this year” – Folk-Metal.nl

“Protokult is a colourful collective, made up of four guys and a lady…It is a versatile album…progressive twists and turns in the songs and surprising approaches.” – Lords of Metal

“Let’s mark the list down, shall we: Awesome Folk music spanning different areas of sound and direction, check! Creative and art work based around an old fashioned beer hall, check! And last, but certainly not least, BEER themed music!!!!.” – Metal Temple

“Anyone who has seen this band live knows that the beer maidens will be pouring potent potables into ever thirsty mouths at the front of the stage. Before this delightful feature comes to fruition, the fans come in close, sing along, and dance the metal jig during the pagan musical onslaught from the band. We are instantly transported to villages, and forests of another era.” – Metal Master Kingdom (Live Review)

“All in all No Beer In Heaven is an extra large package of dark folk metal here to drink and party with you. If you’re a folk fan, be sure to give them a listen. The album is a solid piece and an enjoyment to even non-folk fans. Oh, and they also love the ‘Water of Life’ (that is vodka if you didn’t know already).” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

““Get Me a Beer!” is a hearty and raucous opener and one that will get heads bobbing (and banging) no doubt.” – Femme Metal Webzine

“They belong amongst the ranks of bands like Moonsorrow and Skyforger…Almost every song twists and turns through several folk metal transformations, without ever tapping into cheesy or overly tired clichés.”- Metal Observer (2010 review for Ancestral Anthems)

“Their songs pulse and writhe like a sinuous living thing.”- Exclaim (2012 review of Marzena)

L-R: Dawid (Bass), Kaveh Afshar (Percussion), Ekaterina (Vocals, Woodwinds), Martin Drozd (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer), Jack Neila (Rhythm and Lead Guitar)

As interests in history, paganism and folklore took an increasingly strong hold on folk metallers Protokult, they were inspired to unleash their debut album, “Ancestral Anthems” in 2009. With the first two pressings selling out in months, they vowed to take things to the next level while continuing to deliver a unique mix of Canadian and international influences. In 2011, they released their next offering, the EP “Marzena”, then followed by sophomore album “No Beer In Heaven” that was widely praised for its hooky fun-loving anthems, especially the single “Get Me A Beer!”.

Protokult’s goal? To unite its members’ diverse cultures into one sound, balancing tradition and folklore with heavy, thrash, and black metal for headbangers everywhere.

Over the past few years, the ever-evolving Protokult has graced the stage with the likes of Arkona, Turisas, Alestorm, Gloryhammer, Tengger Cavalry, Cellar Darling (X-Eluveitie) and Razor.

With beauty and the beast-like contrast between Ekaterina’s haunting vocals and the band’s metal rampage, they are ready to unveil their third full-length “Transcending The Ruins”, which is slated for release on October 1st, 2020. The album captures the reformed quintet at an all-time high, showcasing an impressive palette of powerful riffs, glorious onslaughts, and essentially reminds us, why we love heavy metal and it’s darker atmospheric shades.
