North Carolina, USA groove metal warriors WoR are sharing their next video from rehearsals with new drummer Dylan Jenkins.

With upcoming performances at Blue Ridge Rock Festival on September 11th in Danville, Virginia plus tour dates in October with Battlecross and The Convalescence, the band entered a hunting cabin in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains in Asheville, NC to rehearse their set with Jenkins who has put his own spin on some of the older material and injected it with new life.

The band comments:

“During the pandemic, we spent a lot of time behind closed doors working on refining our craft. We worked on old music and wrote a bunch of new music. We decided to film one of these sessions, isolated in a hunting cabin in the Appalachian Mountains, away from the chaos of everyday life. Just the 5 of us jamming”.

Perfectly titled “The Asheville Sessions”, WoR‘s second video showcases the refreshed shredding ripper “Caged”, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/qECYHN5ve0Q

“Caged was one of our stronger singles from the album “Prisoners” and in the Asheville sessions we revamped it even more. Always a powerful track live, it was a cool experience to perform in it such a unique musical setting.” adds the band.

Their first video “Hiraeth” from a series of more to be revealed can also be viewed at https://youtu.be/J-NRDd81lqo

Throwing in elements of thrash, metalcore, and even hardcore punk, everyone in WoR has taken a different musical path and the variety of influences shows through in the unique and original sound on their debut release “Prisoners”, which is an extremely energetic journey from start to finish. Groovy, raw, and old school, WoR is suitable for all fans of metal especially those with an interest in Machine Head, Sepultura, and Gojira.

“Prisoners” (released Aug 7, 2020) is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Google Play.

0 Finland’s AS I MAY New Music Video “Charged”, New Album “Karu” Coming 2022 via Uprising! Records

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 10, 2021

For fans of In Flames, Amorphis, Avenged Sevenfold

Finland’s AS I MAY New Music Video “Charged”

New Album “Karu” Coming 2022 via Uprising! Records

The Finnish melodic tradition runs hot in the veins of AS I MAY as they release the second single from their forthcoming album “Karu” due out in 2022 via Uprising! Records.

“Charged” is a song as heavy and energetic in the verses as melodic and addictive in the chorus. A combination that already proved to be a winner for the Finnish four-piece.

“The whole idea for the song came from the Netflix “Making A Murderer” series”, vocalist & guitarist Lasse Hiltunen says. “The song is based on fiction and we don’t have any opinions on that case, but what a story! The actual song has really hard-hitting guitar riffs with an, almost, pop hit vocal melody in the chorus, with metal guitars. For the music video, we tried to get more of that story-vibe with colours of flame and charcoal. Sad, tragic story from all points of view“, he concludes.

The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/dNIY0jDGX04

As I May is a four-piece modern melodic metal band from Mikkeli, Finland – formed in 2016. The band combines modern elements, yet keeps focus on the heavier side of the music, and they sound like a modern-day US mixture of In Flames and Amorphis, so almost any metal fan would get a treat from listening to the music of these Finns! It’s a mature band, displaying a truly professional attitude towards the modern sound of heavy metal. The soul of the music lies within the catchy melodies and the big choruses.

The band released their debut album “Speak No Evil” in 2017, and got the attention of lots of fans and from the record label Rockshots Records, who decided to sign As I May for the 2019 release of their 2nd album “My Own Creations”. In Asia, the album was released through the label Spiritual Beast.

As I May played a wide array of local Finnish shows and were booked for a European tour, as support for the Brazilian powerhouse-metal act Semblant… and then Covid-19 reared its ugly face, postponing everything for everyone.

The tour is postponed until the spring of 2022 and in the lock-down period, As I May have spent the time, composing and recording their brand-new opus “Karu”, a venture into more modern and direct in-your-face songs. The full length will be released worldwide by Uprising! Records in 2022.

Line-up:
Tipi Nokelainen – Vocals, Bass
Lasse Hiltunen – Vocals, Guitars
Jani Valhola – Guitars, Vocals

Rockshots Records: Italian Symphonic Folk Metal AEXYLIUM Release Video For Title Track Off Upcoming Album “The Fifth Season”

New Album “The Fifth Season” Out October 29th

Italian symphonic folk metallers Aexylium have unleashed their latest video for the title track from their forthcoming album “The Fifth Season” due out October 29th, 2021 via Rockshots Records.

The title track tells through the lyrics and the music an initial restlessness, which leads to a feeling of hope and rebirth towards the end. The song also expresses doubts about the future, also considering the human impact on the planet.

Watch the video featuring Arianna Bellinaso as a special guest on vocals at https://youtu.be/uL0YN1JIyVc

Digital stream – https://spoti.fi/3A5znzK

Mixing traditional folk instruments (Flute, Violin, Bouzouki) with the modern symphonic metal, Aexylium‘s sophomore full length follows 2018’s “Tales From This Land” (Underground Symphony Records) and their 2016 self-produced EP “The Blind Crow“. “Tales From This Land” has had over 110k streams on Spotify along with its powerful single “Revive the Village’ placing on the top 200 metal song charts in Germany on Apple Music. Aexylium has also released fan-praised covers of Game of Thrones and Vikings main themes with reinterpreted folk metal sounds.

Since their inception in 2014, the Italian band has performed at renowned festivals in Europe such as Dumeltica International Music Festival, Montelago Celtic Festival, Malpaga Folk & Metal, Rock Inn Somma, Druidia and Strigarium along with sharing the stage with Elvenking, Wind Rose, Nervosa, Furor Gallico, Temperance and more. In August 2020, despite Covid restrictions, Aexylium was chosen by the city of Milan to perform at the historical Castello Sforzesco.

Their new album “The Fifth Season” is a concrete step towards growth and musical maturity with its offering of festive ballads, tighter riffs, advanced orchestrations and heavier dark songs that are all inspired by Norse Mythology. The record also features guest vocals from Samuele Faulisi (Atlas Pain), Arianna Bellinaso and the members of Coro Facoltà di Musicologia Vocal Ensemble. The album was recorded at Twilight Studio by Davide Tavecchia with the artwork done by Jan Yrlund of Darkgrove Design (Manowar, Testament, Korpiklaani.

“The experience of hearing ‘Tales from this Land’ is a wonderful voyage through time and music at the same time” – Metal Temple (9/10)

“They just need to keep honing the direction, it’s on the right track for sure! I’m not even a big fan of folk metal, but I just became a fan of Aexylium!” – BucketList (9/10)

“A significantly well done, fun and excellent debut album if you love this genre of music” – Metalwave (80/100)

“‘Tales from this Land’ is not afraid of foreign competition and shows, together with a handful of CDs released in recent months, great talent” – Mister Folk (8/10)

“The first song of their concert is unmistakable for those who have followed this TV series, I’m obviously talking about ‘Game of Thrones’ and is welcomed by an ovation from the crowd, that is getting bigger under the stage … They are eight on the stage and the energy they spread is perceived and celebrated several times by the horn sounds among the crowd” – Malpaga 2016 live report by Metalpit

“Aexylium from Varese, a band that I personally had never listened live and that turned out to be a pleasant discovery … The crowd is jumping, and even though their show is at the hottest time of the day, the audience for them is consistent, and it is undeniable that they appreciate the exhibition” – Malpaga 2016 by Suoni Distorti Magazine

0 Decibel Mag Now Streaming Deformatory’s “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

  • September 9, 2021

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 9, 2021

Decibel Mag Now Streaming Deformatory’s “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”

Ottawa’s Deformatory has a new album and it is now streaming in full over on Decibel Magazine HERE.

“Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” is the fifth release from Deformatory, adding to previous works, ”A Prelude Of…” (2011); “In The Wake of Pestilence” (2013); “Malediction” (2016); and “Bilateral Carnage” (Split with Blood of Christ, 2018).

The concept album follows the story of a malevolent interdimensional entities that seek to enslave and consume all light from the universe. Lyrically and musically, Deformatory has gone to great lengths to ensure a brutal, captivating and cohesive work of art. The band shares their take on the overall experience they are trying to convey:

“For us, the artwork and concept of the album were just as important as the music and songwriting. Our hope is that every audio and visual release that is connected to this album helps the listener dive deeper into the totality of our creation.”

Deformatory shares their hopes for the album’s reception:

“We hope it gets received the way we receive it when playing it. We have tons of fun jamming the songs and it automatically causes our heads to bang. It’s a heavy and jam-packed album that has a little bit of everything wrapped in brutal death metal packaging. Our hope is that fans of all extreme metal spectrums will find at least one thing in it to enjoy.”

Deformatory has a high level of chemistry when it comes to writing, on this album, there are some songs that were written in just an hour or two because we were in the pocket and everything flowed the way it should. According to the band, they don’t put a lot of thought into the writing, nor do they concern themselves with the theory behind it. If it sounds good to them and makes them want to demolish the room, then it’s a keeper.

Recommended for fans of Hate Eternal, Cryptopsy, and Morbid Angel, “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon” can be enjoyed on

About:
Deformatory is a death metal band from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Forming in 2010, they set out to create an extreme sound, fusing together classic influences (Cryptopsy, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, etc.) and their love for modern tech death. The result is a uniquely relentless blend of death metal that can only hail from the Northern hemisphere.

Deformatory independently released their full-length debut, “In The Wake of Pestilence”, in December of 2013. This pummeling 9-track debut has been exceptionally well-received by fans worldwide, and has been cited as being an “outstanding and monstrous debut album. Essential.” (Frank Rini – AllAboutTheRock, ex: Internal Bleeding), and “flawless in every way” (TheBloodShed).

Having shared the stage with bands like Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Obscura, Beyond Creation, Gorod, Archspire, and Fuck The Facts, Deformatory is more than comfortable delivering their crushing brand of extreme metal to live, screaming, and sweaty audiences.

The band’s sophomore release, “Malediction”, was released worldwide via CDN Records in 2016, with additional singles “Once Upon the Cross” (Deicide cover), and “Myiasis” both in 2018. Since then, DEFORMATORY has been developing their 3rd full-length album entitled “Inversion of the Unseen Horizon”, which they plan to unveil in the Fall of 2021 as an independent release.

“Beyond the Depths is another sterling example of Canadian might and strength.” – Dead Rhetoric

“And with this song (Dead Men Tell No Tales’, the Canadians clearly show that they want to follow in the footsteps of their compatriots from Unleash The Archers or The Order of Chaos. Power Metal with thrash elements, a singer who can easily stand up to the powerful guitars, the booming bass and the driving drums. The powerful vocals are peppered with high metal screams.”  – MetalHeads Forever Mag

“‘Unbreakable’ comes in like gang busters from the very first note. The senses become infused with the haunting darkness that wants to possess your ears, and it demands your soul. I am captivated with every bass and drum beat which becomes intertangled with strong feminine vocals that speaks directly to me. Women have always faced challenges in any industry, let alone the metal genre, and yet here we are with the band Syryn featuring Sloan Voxx on vocals and their war cry for anyone needing that justifiable push towards righteousness on their own behalf or others. The guitars are sweet, fast, precise and impressively very Iron Maiden-ish. Overall, the entire musicianship impressed me. I actually got goosebumps listening to “Unbreakable.” This band reinforces the notion that metal talent is alive and well in Calgary, AB with bands like Syryn on the scene. I for one am excited and looking forward to listening to their upcoming EP or album in the near future.” – Ingrid Newton, Metal Master Kingdom

Calgary, Canada’s Ravenous have a new album “Hubris” coming out this year and the second single “Astral Elixir” is now being served up with a music video via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

The single combines the spiritual experience of psychedelic rock with the changing musical patterns of prog metal at thrashing top speeds, a relentless power-thrash workout designed to be slick but rhythmically exhausting. The song breaks into a multifaceted and technical bridge that leads into an explosive shred section before a triumphant singalong ending. Ravenous explain the track further:

“Astral Elixir” was the first song that Jake wrote specifically for the “Hubris” album. It was a dedicated effort to move Ravenous towards a more technical direction while maintaining the genre-blending influences of power, thrash, and speed metal. The title of “Astral Elixir” is a homage to some of Jake’s favourite songs: Astral Body (Between the Buried and Me) and Celestial Elixir (Haken), and the choice to make the lyrics spacey and psychedelic with themes of astral projection and ego death was a deliberate juxtaposition to the shreddy, dense music. Take a sip of the Astral Elixir and get lost in the soaring vocals, machine-gun drumming, and bombastic sweep arpeggios”

Existing fans of Ravenous will notice increased cohesion with “Hubris”, it contrasts against the previous recording where each of the tracks were more of an individual effort combined to create a product, but on this album, they are more of a collaborative effort and tied to finding the best way to bring each artist’s creativity into the fold while still maintaining the ethos of “what is best for the song”.

Ravenous brings a full lineup of experienced musicians together, ones that have toured extensively and are fully dedicated to providing a high-energy, high-intensity live experience. They seek to inspire others to find that inner triumph and glory that drove them to form this project – whether that means starting their own band, or just finding the strength to make a change in their lives – they seek to empower their followers through every step of their journey.

Recommended for fans of Powerwolf, Sabaton, and Unleash the Archers, Ravenous is bringing you anthemic tunes from a time when metal was hungry.

“Hubris” will be released on October 22, 2021 via Feast Beast Records for North America plus Europe and for Asia via Spiritual Beast with exclusive bonus tracks “Cakaw Te Partiro” and “一瞬千撃” for the Japanese version.

The album was produced by Ravenous with mixing and mastering done by Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Firewind) along with album guests Vincent ‘Jake’ Jones of Aether Realm, Heinrich Yoshio of Aether Realm, Mathias Blad of Falconer, Nina Osegueda of A Sound of Thunder, The Dread Crew of Oddwood (Full Band).

Shumaun, from Virginia, USA are now streaming their third album “Memories & Intuition.” Unlike the previous album, this one is not a concept album. It’s lyrically thematic, but the songs were written to be stand-alone singles, as Farhad Hossain (vocals/guitar/keys) explains:

“I really focused on the craft of songwriting on this album. I think it’s the best collection of songs I’ve ever written. The hard part was making the decision that a song was done and ready to go. You can spend years refining material, but that doesn’t necessarily make a song “better.” Luckily for me, these songs developed rather quickly and naturally. The lyrics by far are my most personal yet. I knew I wanted twelve tracks, so I set off to do just that and nothing more. There were no extra tracks.”

Hossain continues to explain that the members of the band have several more albums in them as there is no shortage of musical ideas at this point. It is hard to say what direction we will go in the future, but it’s exciting because we don’t set limitations on our musical exploration… as this album certainly shows. Melody will always remain an integral part of our music and that will never change, adds Farhad Hossain.

“Memories & Intuition” is more song-oriented than the previous two albums, but maintains the progressive twists associated with Shumaun. The music is accessible and honest with elements that can be appreciated by a wide spectrum of rock and metal enthusiasts.

Shumaun is recommended for fans of Tool, Rush, and Fates Warning.

“Memories & Intuition” is streaming now via TheProgSpace HERE.

About:
Shumaun initially started as a solo project by Farhad Hossain (ex singer/guitarist/keyboardist of Iris Divine). After recording a few demos, he decided to recruit a few friends to help build the project into a full-fledged collaborative band. Through the course of recording their self-titled debut album, Shumaun went through a period of tribulation while securing a drummer. Original drummer Tanvir Tomal (ex Iris Divine) had to leave for professional obligations in the middle of the recording sessions and was later replaced with Waqar Khan (Entity Paradigm), who is also well known for his work with the platinum-selling Ali Azmat of the EMI recording artist Junoon (one of South Asia’s most successful rock bands). Waqar remained with the band long enough to record a few tracks on the debut record as well as appear live for some of the earlier shows. Travis Orbin (Darkest Hour, Periphery), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord) recorded the remaining drums on the debut record that was released in the fall of 2015. Tanvir has since returned to the band as the live drummer.

2019 saw the band releasing their sophomore album “One Day Closer to Yesterday.” The album was once again mixed by Brett Caldas-Lima at Tower Studio in France. The album was rawer and heavier, but the melodies and vocals were never compromised. It includes the bombastic prog metal single “Go.”

2021 sees Shumaun releasing their third album “Memories & Intuition,” which features the amazing drumming of legends such as Thomas Lang (Peter Gabriel, Paul Gilbert), Atma Anur (Jason Becker, Tony Macalpine), Mark Zonder (Fates Warning, Warlord), and Leo Margarit (Pain of Salvation). Shumaun once again tapped Brett Caldas-Lima and Tower Studio for mixing and mastering. The album is their most melodic to date and consists of their single “Memories of Water.”

The Shumaun sound is shaped by the soaring vocals and lead guitar work of Farhad Hossain, the pounding melodic bass lines of Jose Mora, and the subtle guitar nuances of Tyler Kim. The band has received many accolades, and have made it onto several “album of the year” lists from sites such as Progressive Music Planet, Decibel Geek, and Metal Asylum etc. The band also won The Deli Magazine’s “Best of 2015” for Washington DC bands, and have been featured on Revolver Magazine, and Decibel Magazine.

EPK – The Design Abstract – Metemtechnosis (2021)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

For fans of Scar Symmetry, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Soilwork, Septicflesh, Divine Disorder

“Many people had many positive things to say about Technotheism upon its release, and we feel that Metemtechnosis is a worthy successor to it. Compositionally, we have refined many elements and parts of the processes, and from a technical standpoint, we have really stepped up a lot. Those who wanted to hear more of the killer guitar work will assuredly not be disappointed. Metemtechnosis also carries on the story of Technotheism in part two of what will be a trilogy. Everything that was present in Technotheism has been brought back in more compelling ways, and the performances are more on-point than ever before.

Metemtechnosis is a sci-fi melodic death metal album that uses orchestral and electronic elements to tell the story of humanity being reborn as a creation of hyper-intelligent technology. Themes that deconstruct the ideas of technology, humanity, and utopia are explored to the sound of huge, riffy, and comprehensive songs.” – Voiicide – The Design Abstract

Album Title: Metemtechnosis
Release Date: October 29, 2021
Label: Abstrakted Records

“Incorporating old school sci-fi visual elements with choppy electronics, catchy guitar parts and perfectly timed kick drums, this track (Parallel Projection) is a synth metal blast!” – Metal Injection

“A symphonic technical death metal masterpiece with an amazing concept to keep you engaged from start to finish \m/” – Heavy New York

“Now for some nerd shit. Technotheism is a concept record about the future that at it’s core is a melodic death metal record, but the band dabbles with electronic elements, technicality, and grand orchestrations throughout. Fans of Last Chance To Reason and really any band Mike Semesky (Ordinance, Raunchy, etc) has been a part of will probably dig this.” – Metal Injection

“This is a grandiose affair, full of musicality, technicality, and narrative. Thirteen tracks of symphonic melodic death metal that tells a cyberpunk story of a group of rebels fighting to regain control of Earth. It ranges from technical guitar work to atmospheric electronic passages, and just about everything in between.” – The Prog Space

“I love hearing something ambitious and genre-bending when a band can follow through on their vision.  The Design Abstract is one such band, one that had an idea and put it together almost flawlessly… This album is every bit as diverse, colorful, and epic as I had hoped, and there are jaw-dropping moments galore.  I absolutely love this record.” – The Prog Mind

“The Canadian The Design Abstract continues exactly where the appetizer “Esoteric”, published last year, caused unimagined enthusiasm. As a result, the duo from Ontario cuts even more clearly into the notch of futuristic sci-fi melodic death metal, which lives largely from orchestral and symphonic density, but which also steers very sophisticated and elegant in the right direction… Rarely do you hear such an exciting album that continues to rotate a unique spindle of ideas between melodic and progressive elements. Death metal meets industrial, songs that are staged in a great symphonic and epic breadth. 9.5/10″ ” – Zephyrs Odem

“The Design Abstract goes for a big symphonic style in extreme metal, with a few twists and surprises along the way. Fans of the dystopian and/or futuristic sounds may find the album especially interesting. The Design Abstract is the symphony that remains after the alien zombies have taken over and this is the music that they want the world to hear to remind everyone that the zombies are horrible beings that enjoy tormenting the population with grandiose cacophony. When can the party begin, right?” – Metal Bulletin Zine

“THE DESIGN ABSTRACT – Technothesim is an eavesdropping beyond one’s own musical nose, which is worth it!” – My Revelations

===========================

The album as a whole:

Metemtechnosis is a sci-fi melodic death metal album that uses orchestral and electronic elements to tell the story of humanity being reborn as a creation of hyper-intelligent technology. Themes that deconstruct the ideas of technology, humanity, and utopia are explored to the sound of huge, riffy, and comprehensive songs.

Track by track explained:

01 Digital Dawn
The album opener is a flurry of highly technical guitar work mixed with anthemic choruses bordering on stadium rock. It tells of the Omnisphere (singularity)’s decision to spawn a new race of humanity on earth. Digital Dawn features virtuosic guitar/synth melodies, as well as even more harsh/clean vocal contrast than before.

02 Born of Machines
Track 2 is heavily influenced by Gothenburg Melodeath, as it features a fairly traditional song structure, and sports several catchy riffs and solos. The lyrics tell of this (aforementioned) great technological rebirth taking place.

03 The Hybrid Awakening
Track 3 is what really sets the benchmark for the album: The same impressive riffs and leads as well as guitar and synth solos that you should expect, but with the emotionally impactful climax of the chorus, and the Meshuggah-esque breakdown sections. Lyrically, this track explains this new race of humanity is integrated with technology at a fundamental level, making humankind stronger, faster, and more versatile than ever.

04 Organic Data Fusion
A more relaxed tempo, but still as technical as ever, track 4 features the first cello solo on the album, as well as an abundance of soulful lead work by Matt. The song tells of the ever-blurring line between humanity and technology, as -with each new generation the two become more and more inseparable.

05 Metropolis II
A slight departure both lyrically and musically, Track 5 is a very fast-paced and to-the-point song about the over-industrialization of the new cities being built to accommodate this increasing surge in population. It features more industrial elements than normal, and displays a more simplified writing style than the rest of the album.

06 Aberration Omega
I can’t describe this track without using the term “absolute banger” so we’ll just get that out of the way now. Track 6 is a display of everything the band is capable of in a neat 3.5 minute capsule. Epic orchestra, electro-industrial elements, soaring clean vocals, brutal lows, and of course truly impressive guitar work, all set to express the anthemic sound of rebellion. Aberration Omega tells of the formation of the rebel group that forms to rise up against the tyrannical reign of their oppressors.

07 Upheaval (Instrumental)
Track 7 is an instrumental track that represents the general civil unrest and the building of tension between Aberration Omega, and the overly-imposing rule of the Omnisphere and the ones who represent it. It features a massive percussion group, a mix of orchestra and synth, and lyrical guitar leads.

08 Sentinels
The second lyrical and musical departure from the album, Track 8 is a much more atmospheric melodeath track exploring the focal target of the rebellion: the sacred temple of the oppressors. Musically it features (relatively) more simplistic guitar work and more groove-based drumming, with much more vague orchestra and washed-out harsh vocals. A bit of a rest before what’s to come.

09 Decryptor
TDA’s new magnum opus is track 9: Decryptor. Everything present in Technotheism and in Metemtechnosis is here in some regard. The absolutely devastating breakdown-turned-chorus, the highly detailed orchestral work and synth layering which could very well be a soundtrack in its own right, the crushing guttural lows contrasted with crisp clean vocals, and of course riff after riff of technical-yet-memorable guitar work. All of these elements work together to tell of the saviour of Aberration Omega: the fabled Decryptor. Described as “an angel of digital reckoning” and “the archfiend of machines”, the Decryptor character is the key to the rebellion breaking through the walls of the oppressive temple, and discovering the secrets uncovered in the next album.

The Design Abstract is a 3-piece Symphonic Melodic Death Metal band from Kitchener-Waterloo, ON, Canada. The band focuses heavily on storytelling and worldbuilding with a futuristic and sci-fi narrative to each album they create. The Design Abstract formed in 2011 as a solo project under the name Design, and after many lineup changes, grew into a musical entity that presents a bold, epic, and even monolithic fusion of orchestra, synth, and melodic death metal. Sweeping symphonic passages, harsh industrial elements, highly proficient and memorable guitar work, and brutal guttural vocals mixed with soaring cleans are all blended in many ways to put forth a truly unique and powerful musical experience.
