Out Now! Rockshots Records – Finland’s AMOTH (ft. Ensiferum’s Pekka Montin) New Album “The Hour Of The Wolf”

New Music Video “Alice”

The Lycans are howling out loud today with release of Finnish metallers Amoth‘s new album “The Hour of The Wolf” via Rockshots Records.

The band’s roots are strongly founded on 80’s heavy metal, but branch out in different directions with elements from progressive rock, thrash, and even jazz brought to the table. “The Hour Of The Wolf” is the band’s third studio album to follow to their previous recordings “Revenge” (2016), “Crossing Over” (2011), “Wounded Faith (EP) (2008).

This third full-length features Pekka Montin of Ensiferum once again as the lead vocalist and for the first time, there are also keyboards on an Amoth recording. Fans can expect insane vocals and virtuoso-like playing from all members of the band. The nine songs are very diverse, taking sudden twists and turns into unexplored territory. Amoth even offers up two Steve Vai / Joe Satriani-style instrumentals on this new full-length with tracks “Wind Serenade Part I” and “Wind Serenade Part II”.

“This is by far our best album yet! Superior performances from all of the musicians. Much better production and songwriting. It’s not a fast-food album. Some of the songs are quite complex so it takes probably more than one listen to really get into!” comments Amoth guitarist and main songwriter Tomi Ihanamäki.

Today, in celebration of the album’s release, Amoth is sharing their latest music video for the record’s opening track “Alice”.

“The verse riff of this song was shown to me by Alice Cooper in my dream! I woke up and immediately wrote the riff down. That’s where the name of this song comes from, so thanks Alice! There are two main characters in this song: a stripper and her pimp. The lyrics are almost like a dialogue between those two. Very catchy and ”easy to get into” song with strong and memorable melodies. I knew this song needed an 80’s style chorus so that’s what it has.” adds guitarist Tomi Ihanamäki.

Toronto’s Depleted Uranium will be unleashing their new album “Origins” on Friday, Jan 28th and before they drop their atomic destruction of grindcore, math-metal, and power-violence, they are streaming the record in full via MetalInsider HERE.

“Origins” is a fast, aggressive journey with existential lyrics delivered with full throttle vocals, coupled with technical melodies and harmonies that bring you to your bad place. It is meant to obliterate negative energy and make life a better place as everyone has something to scream for or about.

The band adds:

“It has been a long time since the recording of Origins. Life, death, and everything in between has blessed and burdened us along our journey. Some say “it is not relevant” or “why not release new material”; for us, this is unreleased material and it’s part of our journey of perspective, and accompanied by the pandemic lockdown. We’ve never been a band to do what people expect, so expect us to do things differently and to not fit in as that’s part of us. That being said, we will always attempt to deliver 100% in music and writing, rehearsing and performing our music, with or without a witness as to us, our time together is sacred, meaningful, and requires sacrifice from all members to exist.”

“Origins” is Depleted Uranium‘s history of who they are and where they come from. It is meant to be listened to in reference to their self-titled, debut release; to give a perspective that will also further be referenced in their future releases. Both lyrics and music hold a high tension and are expressed without hesitation. Both are relevant to their time and space of creation and are embodied with existential yet direct meaning. The album as a whole is a statement of youth being dissatisfied with the existing conditions of reality and channeling our experience into what it is today. “If one cannot withstand the hot glow of anger upon the discovery of a wrong, then time is wasted thinking deeply”.Depleted Uranium‘s band name, their lyrics, and their music are a product of the system with the right individuals as the recipe. Their message on Origins” is to strive from personal freedom and to focus on what you want rather than what you don’t.

Loud, technical, and confident, “Origins” is recommended for fans of Converge, Charles Bronson, and Dillinger Escape Plan.

The album will be out on January 28, 2022 with the physical CD including an exclusive bonus track.

“The music (which could be thought of as a blending of powerviolence and math metal) genuinely sounds insane — furiously so — and yet something about the experience makes sense. Not just because it sounds like people throwing away mental shackles and conventions, but also because the music simultaneously gets its hooks in your head. There’s a sense of order and precision of execution in it, at the same time as it seems completely disruptive of order.” – No Clean Singing

“Aside from grind, you’re getting a decent dose of mathcore, but even more often, the music veers into territory that I think would appeal to screamo fans. These parts are governed by clean-ish, anguished vocals and additionally infused with melancholy by the guitar. While they do the most to define the mood of the album, I’d still hesitate to pigeonhole it, as the band pivots from style to style often enough to give the music a nicely weird, free-form feel. If you’d like a take on the post-nuclear apocalypse that isn’t filled with boring zombies and mutants, look no further.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Origins is a deliciously disgusting album, there transpires a form of sincerity, without artifice or make-up. In about twenty minutes, Depleted Uranium will take you apart like a puzzle! This music is so visceral that it explodes the stomach and the ears.” – Aux Portes du Metal

“‘Origins’ is not only an impressive feat for a one take live performance, but it really has a lot of violent energy and the twenty minutes or so flies in. You sometimes find that powerviolence/grindcore can be a little one note (I know, I know, it’s kinda the point) but Depleted Uranium’s work has a lot more variety to it and isn’t merely noise for music’s sake. If you like your music ugly, visceral and yet a bit thought provoking then Depleted Uranium are going to be for you!” – The Killchain Blog

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 27, 2022

TURBO Get Their Thrills With Amusement Park Break In To Film Music Video “Alive”

Music Video Premiere via Bravewords

Album “Fast as Fvck” Out Now!

Last year Turbo released their debut album “Fast as Fvck”, a thrash metal rollercoaster of a musical ride that grabs you and doesn’t let go. Today, they have a new music video in support of the song “Alive” and to film it, they broke into an abandoned amusement park. This stunt is perfect for a band who describes their sound as “if nitroglycerin had a soundtrack”.

The intention with their sound was to be like a gateway-drug into the rock-and-roll lifestyle, but without all the glitz and glamour of a Snakeoil Salesman band really trying to sell you on it. According to the Turbo, this is something a bit grittier, a bit more street, a bit rawer, and a bit more real. They go on to explain the track “Alive”:

“It is more or less a written testament to bad-decisions with one of the most badass riffs on the album slapped on top of it. The song features a call-and-response guitar harmony and an anthemic chorus. There’s not too much more to say on it apart from being among the most fun songs on the album; definitely one to do a keg stand along to!”

Each of the members of Turbo was in separate bands when they came together with the desire to be part of something bigger and badder.

“Something that was gonna grab things right by the cojones and give it a good shake.”

Their album “Fast as Fvck” is an homage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums.

Turbo is highly recommended for fans of Guns n’ Roses, Ramones and Pantera.

The video for “Alive” can be viewed via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Track Listing:
1. Burning The Wick (2:13)
2. Alive (3:12)
3. Living On The Line (3:26)
4. Silver Spoon (2:56)
5. Make Bail (3:25)
6. Last Call (3:41)
7. Serpents Coil (6:37)
Album Length: 25:33

About:

Like your disheveled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, sleazy, mean, and sick of your shit. Coming at you hard and fast from the east coast of Canada, rages Turbo. An eclectic mix of rock, punk, and metal, this is what would happen if nitroglycerin had a soundtrack. High impact is the name of the game for them and they are bringing the grit to listeners around the world.

With 100% collaborative effort, the themes that fuel Turbo lyrics revolve around personal experiences or things that just come up while they’re writing the music to a particular piece. The focus is that all the bandmates are able to relate to everything they sing about. It’s real, edgy, and visceral.

The highly potent debut album “Fast as Fvck” was released in 2020; it’s metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purest; welcome to Turbo’s patented “Nitro-Rock”.

In 2019, Utah’s Arsenic Addiction released their third album “XIX”, they are now releasing a video for the single “Tomb of Sleep”. To put it bluntly, the song is about suicide ideation, apathy, depression, and the inner battle that these things cause and wanting to give in to what seems like relief, but finding yourself conflicted “between two worlds”. The band put it forth as a single because not only does it represent the album well, but ties together their old material and what is to come. They explain the track:

“We wanted the viewer to experience what these emotions can feel like. Deep in the woods, death following you, in purgatory, blinded. The weight of these emotions can make you feel like you’re being buried alive, bled dry, and ultimately hopeless. Everyone knows what a battle with mental illness can look like but not everyone knows what it feels like. We hope this video provides a small window into that world and what it feels like to struggle within when you’re already dead but somehow still breathing.”

The album “XIX” is the story of an outsider, relatable to those who dare to be different, strange, or unusual and are made out to be monsters, demons, or witches because of it. It’s the journey of the human soul from a feminine perspective experiencing love, hate, finding inner power, and making deals with the devil to conquer those who would stand in the way of that power. “Tomb of Sleep” is meant to feel aggressive, dark, and a look inside her feelings of hopelessness and loss.

Gothic in sound, Arsenic Addiction‘s music is melodic and both beautiful and sorrowful. It is recommended for fans of In This Moment, Arch Enemy and Myrkur.

The video for “Tomb of Sleep” can be seen and heard via TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/gGcGm2xQYDA

“XIX” was released on September 23, 2019.

Chicago’s BURNED IN EFFIGY will be unleashing their new album “Rex Mortem” on Friday, January 28, 2022 to follow their debut EP “Terrestrial”. Unlike their debut recording, which was all instrumental, this first full-length from the band will see not only new guitarists Mike Hisson and Steve Bacakos on the lineup, but also witness vocalist Mark “Smedy” Smedbron discharge his earworm fury unto the masses. The three new members join co-founding members Eddie Dec (Drums) and Matt Watkins (Bass).

Before the album officially drops, the band has teamed up with EverythingIsNoise for the full stream premiere of “Rex Mortem”, which can be heard at the following link HERE.

Lyrically, the album is the introduction of a tale of a tyrannical king’s rule and demise, including some other minor themes and stories from mythology and classic literature. Musically, the album is high-energy, but also diverse. It takes elements from multiple subgenres within metal, mainly melodic death and progressive, while infusing neoclassical elements into each track. No two tracks sound the same. Burned In Effigy skillfully and tastefully changed keys and time signatures throughout, so the feel of their music is constantly shifting, but also smoothly flows between each section.

Bassist Matt Watkins adds:

“We are psyched to present our debut album, Rex Mortem, a catalog of the first chapter of the band. This has been in the works for a long time and we couldn’t be more pleased with how it has turned out. The songs vary in complexity and intensity and demonstrate our growth as a band since its inception. Listeners will hear influences such as The Black Dahlia Murder and The Human Abstract, combining our love for death metal and progressive/neo-classical metal. The vocals are gritty and tense and the lyrics emphasize this with dark tales inspired by mythology, history, and classic literature. We believe our album has something for all metal fans, regardless of preferred subgenre.”

Album pre-order for “Rex Mortem” is available at Burnedineffigy.bandcamp.com (CD) and all other major digital platforms at https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/burnedineffigy/rex-mortem.

About:
Burned in Effigy is a neoclassical melodic death metal band from Chicago, IL. Formed in late 2016 by founding members Brad Dose (guitar), Vito Belino (guitar), Eddie Dec (drums), and Matt Watkins (bass). Starting as an instrumental melodic metal band, the four were brought together by their love of complex, melodic, and heavy music and sought to bring more of that to the Chicago extreme music scene.

Burned in Effigy released their debut EP, Terrestrial, in April 2017. The band focused on playing shows after and building an audience through top-notch live performances while opening for prominent bands such as Scale the Summit, Angel Vivaldi, Oh, Sleeper, and Mushroomhead. While supporting this EP, Burned in Effigy worked with a couple of different vocalists and eventually recruited vocalist Mark “Smedy” Smedbron in December 2019 while in the early demo stages for their first full length.

Instrumental recordings for the band’s masterpiece, Rex Mortem, were finished in early 2020. Shortly after, the band parted ways with guitarist Brad Dose. Vocal recording, mixing, and mastering was finished in mid 2021, after which guitarist Vito Bellino left in order to focus on music school. Shortly after, the remaining three members Eddie Dec (drums), Matt Watkins (bass), and Mark “Smedy” Smedbron (vocals) rallied and recruited guitarists Mike Hisson and Steve Bacakos, who naturally fit with and complemented the band’s signature sound.

“One of the first strong albums of 2022… a very solid debut without much in the way of a bad track. While the band tends to stick to a basic formula and not overpopulate the tracks with clean vocals, keyboards, or guest vocals which tends to the be typical melodeath experience these days “Rex Mortem” is full of infectious riffs that will grab listeners and root them in place for the full ride. Definitely, a band to watch for in 2022. 4/5” – Brutalism

“the highlight goes to the fantastic guitar work that manages to pull out memorable melodies and those that seem to be part of the common lexicon, especially for those who appreciate the neo-classical side. Add the caustic weight we’re used to in Black Dahlia Murder and we’re set for a great start to 2022. 8.5/10” – Word of Metal

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 25, 2022

Out Now! Canadian Thrash TRISKELYON (ft. Hyperia, Artach members) Release Debut Self-Titled EP + Lyric Video “Hunger”

Triskelyon is a Canadian melodic thrash metal project created by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI. Conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project, the first self-titled EP releases on January 25, 2022.

Triskelyon features the contributions of vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment).

Geoff Waye explains in further detail how the project came to be:

“The project formed in St. John’s, Newfoundland. It began because I wanted an outlet for more melodic, yet still savage sounding thrashy metal. I wanted to do this as a studio project so I could get things together myself, which means I can do so fairly quickly if I want to. I did all the songs, wrote the lyrics, and play all the guitar and bass on the EP. I cannot play drums, so I found the fantastic Raul Marques. I wanted the vocals to be melodic so after I had the songs together I asked my vocal god friend, Pete Healey, to do some vocals. I sent him what I had and he was into it and you can hear him on tracks “Hunger” and “Find A Way”. The last puzzle piece for the EP is Marlee Ryley – the very versatile vocalist for the killer Canadian band Hyperia. I took a shot in the dark and introduced myself and asked if she’d like to guest on the EP and she agreed to be on the closing track “Odyssey (Blessed by Steel)”

Today, in support of the debut EP’s release, Triskelyon is unveiling their lyric video for EP opener “Hunger”, a track that starts with no buildup just straight into the fun speedy thrash riffage.

“This was also the first song I wrote for this project. After I had it written and got the drums done, I knew I was onto something. The song is about a hunger for change in the world. I am not a fan of the way the world is heading in terms of politics, divisions, and how stuck in their ways and traditions people are. The chorus line “It’s the time for the fearless to rise. A hunger for change in their eyes.” gets to the theme and heart of the song’s idea.” adds Waye.

Lyric Video – “Hunger” – https://youtu.be/QK0s1Az2EB4

0 Montreal’s DEAD VELVET Meld Subtle Beauties In Destruction And Chaos With Debut Single “The Dogs”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal’s DEAD VELVET Meld Subtle Beauties In Destruction And Chaos With Debut Single “The Dogs”

L-R – Jesse (Vocals), Corey (Bass), Stretch (Guitar), Tylor (Drums)

Montreal’s Dead Velvet is a fresh new band that blends a bouncy, contagious, genre-crossing sound with a heartfelt poetic retelling of personal experiences, the first taste of which being the video single “The Dogs”. The single is about tainted relationships and is a great precursor to the music they’re going to be releasing in the future. The band is an interesting, well-thought-out mix of multiple genres, blurring the lines between old-school nu-metal, hardcore, and modern metal.

When the music for the track was being written, guitarist Eric (Stretch) Villeneuve was going for a trap vibe and hoping to infuse it with the get-on-your-feet energy that is present in hip hop. The structure pulls you in and spits you back out through its grooves and bumps and when the hook comes in it knocks you on your ass. The band explains the track:

“’The Dogs’ is the first song that we decided to share with the world and we chose this one because we find it well represents the general sound and musical aesthetic that we’re going for. It’s a blistering tale of lost love and trying to push past all the pain in a relationship to make it work when, really, it would probably make more sense to just leave. It’s about empty promises and broken dreams, and I think that’s something that many people have been through and a message that almost all of us can connect with on some level.”

Going forward, Dead Velvet plans to release a series of singles to show listeners what they’re capable of. They are making music that will get people on their feet and give them a reason to move. Welcome to the dead gang.

Aggressive, dark, and dirty, Dead Velvet is recommended for fans of Deftones, Stray From The Path, and Korn.

“The Dogs” can be seen and heard via its music video premiere on Metal Worldwide YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/qmVO-tNTFIM

PLANESWALKER’s (members of Helion Prime, Gloryhammer) New Music Video “Oath of the Gatewatch” ft. Guests Unleash The Archers, Ravenous E.H., ex-Helion Prime

Debut Album “Tales of Magic” Out Jan 21st

L-R – Sozos Michael – Vocals, Jason Ashcraft – Guitar

Exploring the rich and deep lore of Magic: The Gathering, Planeswalker, the new power metal band founded by Helion Prime guitarist Jason Ashcraft and newly added Gloryhammer vocalist Sozos Michael, celebrate the release of their debut album “Tales of Magic”, out now as of January 21st with the unveiling of their most ambitious music video to date for the track “Oath of the Gatewatch”.

The video features album guests Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers), R.A. Voltaire (Ravenous E.H.) and Heather Michele (ex-Helion Prime). The track itself is inspired from the lore of Magic: The Gathering where it follows the storyline of the same name – Oath of the Gatewatch. Each guest vocalist plays a character from the story and each had this to say.

“There it is! I am incredibly proud of everyone that put their heart and soul to make this song. “Oath of the Gatewatch” is one of the most intricate and complex pieces I have written, and it could well have collapsed under its own weight were it not for the stellar performances of our amazing guest singers. So thank you, Brittney, Heather, Rav, we couldn’t have done this without you.” – Sozos Michael.

“It’s amazing what can be accomplished when five Magic: the Gathering nerds join forces across the globe – creating one of the best Power Metal epics (with costumes, to boot!)” – R.A. Voltaire.

“Oath of the Gatewatch is one of the most fun endeavors I’ve had the opportunity to work on. The concept, the costumes, the amazing music from Planeswalker, and the incredible talent from all musicians involved makes this a truly special project. I hope you all love it as much as I do!” – Heather Michele.

“It’s such an honour to be a part of this project! Not only is it created by one of my oldest friends from the North American metal scene, but it includes some of my favourite voices in metal today and I couldn’t be more proud. This is the coolest, nerdiest side project of all time and I just count myself lucky to be a part of it. Hopefully, you all enjoy the video that I climbed a tree to perform, and braved many a wild pup charging into the forest off the walking path to see just exactly what it was I was up to dancing around in the bushes lol I had the greatest time with this song and I really hope you all will as well!” – Brittney Slayes

0 Rockshots Records – BERIEDIR Celebrate Release of New Album “AQVA” w/ New Music Video “At Candle Light”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 21, 2022

Rockshots Records – BERIEDIR Celebrate Release of New Album “AQVA” w/ New Music Video “At Candle Light”

To celebrate the release of their new album “AQVA”, out now as of Friday, Jan 21st via Rockshots Records, progressive power metal legion Beriedir are sharing with fans their latest music video for the track “At Candle Light”. The song is about finding shelter in someone, not as a perfect saviour, but as a true companion, while treading a dark road in an unknown and strange place, all of this with the aid of the little light that we’re often allowed to have during our life.

The video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/Wr9K7sOvC5I

Beriedir‘s second full-length “AQVA” features ten tracks of progressive, power, and melodic death metal that were mixed and mastered by Simone Mularoni (Domination Studio).

“AQVA”, despite not being a real concept album with a story articulating itself throughout the tracks, touches its various topics through the many forms in which water manifests, be it a river, a storm or tears. The album deals with rather introspective matters, trying to give a new perspective on situations that Biriedir thinks their listeners will find relatable and hoping that they will maybe take shelter in their audio experience, using them as their own voice when only music can speak for us.

“We think AQVA will positively surprise our older fans and lead new ones, this record is much more diverse and has definitely matured in songwriting. The main goal of AQVA as a whole is to figuratively “submerge” the listener with a spectrum of themes, both musical and lyrical, related to water and its shapes. Water is the element of flow, it’s the substance that conceals, preserves, and washes all away. The lulling nature of a silent shore or a rapping rain is juxtaposed to the fearsome imagery of the undertow, riptides, and tidal waves. We tried to convey these atavistic sensations differently from track to track. The singles were chosen to showcase the variety of approaches to this theme.” adds band founder Stefano Nüsperli.

Recommended for fans of Vision Divine, Dream Theater, Dark Tranquillity, Pain of Salvation and Katatonia, “AQVA” is available for pre-order at the following links:

About:

Beriedir (from the Sindarin word for “Guardians”) is a progressive melancholic power metal act based in Bergamo, Italy. The five-member band was founded by Stefano Nüsperli and began its live career in 2015 with the release of “The Line”, their first demo. Their first full-length album “The Path Beyond the Moon” was unveiled in 2018, which launched them to perform on multiple musical events such as Fosch Fest (Italy) along with sharing the stage with bands such as Korpiklaani and Pathfinder. After the 2020 release of the EP “Lullabies Beyond the Moon”, which contained three tracks from their debut album rearranged in an acoustic key, they are now ready to launch their new album “AQVA” in 2022.
