EPK – Harvested – Self-Titled (2022)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We are beyond thrilled to present our very first self-titled EP to everyone. After years of hard work and dedication, as well as lockdowns and a few minor setbacks have only made us more prepared and we are finally ready to show you all what we’ve got. Having years of musical background and being good friends for years has added to the energy and chemistry we portray in our live performances. Our debut EP is just a taste of what we’ve accomplished so far as an unknown band in the last 3 years of forming, though we have much more in store coming very soon!

We’re inspired by so many different styles of metal from old school death metal to black metal to slam, it makes it interesting to tradeoff with each other and combines all the elements into one cohesive unit. Though we decided to take a different approach to lyrical content and have our focus on the terror behind psychological experiences and  mental illness

We are trying to keep that old school death metal vibe alive to keep the old school fans excited and more hopeful that this genre will never die, while utilizing and embracing new genres, styles, and production that will capture the ears of the newer generations as well as open a whole new world to the old school fans”. – HARVESTED

For fans of Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Hate Eternal

#13 – Harvested – Top 20 – June 2022 Loud Charts (Earshot)

“From the first notes of first track ‘Apathetic’ you realize that these men are a serious bet to get a place in the death metal scene, with solid riffs and powerful rhythmic base, also melodic but not soft solo… I like this EP very much, it has all parts you need to listen to death metal: brutality, technical, good execution, guttural, screams, and growls, blast beats, double bass drums parts, virtuous parts and most important, good songs, it’s a sample of how to make everything fit correctly.” 4.5/5 – Brutalism

“There are very few things that are more exciting within the world of music than a good debut. A solid start for a band is something that should get every fan of the style of music the group plays jacked for what could hopefully be a long and fruitful career. Proficient debuts give you something to jam out to in the present but also hope for the future. Take my word for it, the self-titled debut EP from Ottawa-based Harvested (out May 7) is just that type of invigorating release.” – Metal Plague

“Thrashing guitars, blasting drums, and intense, chesty vocals start and end each track. Recording quality and production is good, allowing each of the instruments to cut through the mix… there is a tremendous amount of potential in this band, and I’d absolutely love to hear more from them. I certainly hope that in the coming years, the pace doesn’t slow or abate, as this EP ought to be on any tech-death fan’s radar for mid-2022.” – Metal Epidemic

“Each one of these cuts is something of a short, sharp shock at around the 210 second mark, while other bands could trim some fat and loose a chorus and verse, Harvested go straight for the jugular live and direct, leaving you wanting that extra chorus and verse which is testament to how good their debut really is. A clean and crisp high quality recording, if we were wine drinkers we would say it goes down like a glass of Chenin Blanc but chances are that if you had a glass in your hand, it would be smashed on the floor in your rush to get to the pit for this. ” – Metal Noise

“From the way closer ‘Bereavement’ comes to a thunderous close, you can just FEEL the energy of what is still to come. ‘Harvested’ is a good start, but I know this band have more in them and I look forward to what comes next. But if you need your head caved in for sixteen and a half minutes, Harvested can sort you right out.” – The Killchain Blog

“For a record that’s only fifteen minutes, the tracks on Harvested’s self-titled waste no time in establishing their barbarous quality. Among the style of tech, groove and dissonance, Harvested definitely went for the grooves! The members definitely know their roots and aren’t afraid to pay homage to them. The production quality has an old-school touch to it, which adds a raw vicious quality to the overall soundscape the band has painted. The abominable monstrosity that takes birth, mixed in with serious topics of Mental Illness accounts for a remorseless experience. While this might just be the starting point for Harvested, their self-titled EP establishes their grounds in the extreme realm of metal – all we can do now is wait and watch for what Harvested has to offer next! ” – Metal Genesis

“Five tracks in all with not a single entry which disappoints those who wish for their audio to incite movement. With quality like this on offer scouts should be scrambling over themselves in hopes to represent. I’m expecting future releases to propel the act to the lips of an excitable many.” – Cult Metal Flix

“Viciously Brutal, Goes well with my morning coffee” – Paul Collins

“Non-stop heaviness from start to finish. Every song has a different experience yet they all have memorable and catchy riffs that engage the listener” – Eric Morotti (Drummer of Suffocation)

“The EP is quite awesome and I’ll find myself listening over and over again! They sound like Cannibal Corpse/Dying Fetus and many more. The day Harvested has a show in Montreal you can expect to see me in the pit.” – William Biron

“Presenting Harvested: Hailing from Ottawa is one of Canada’s finest emerging death metal bands. Their debut E.P. brings that good ol’ churning feeling in your stomach like you just chugged a 40 of malt liquor and fell down a hill! Dangerous, disorienting brutal fun. The way death metal should be. If you’re into Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, and Morbid Angel or just having an all-around good time, look no further.” – Brandon Aitchison

===============================================

The EP as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained by the band:

Lyrically, we thought of exploring the topics of mental illness as a general theme. The drums have an old-school death metal feel with a modern touch, intricate yet very aggressive drum grooves. Dark Moon Productions did an awesome job providing us with the sound we were looking for, a modern production but rooted in the styles of the bands that founded this genre. Vocally, Adam’s technique and overall projection is a respectful nod to George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse.

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained by the band:

Apathetic: Narcissism and lacking empathy in a collective society. Starts off abruptly, leading to a very double bass-heavy riff. which then transitions into the main part of the song, building up to the main riff and keeping the energy consistent. Musically it’s one of the harder songs to perform because it gradually builds section by section instead of going to breaks and rests.

Bludgeoned: Paranoia and schizophrenia. It starts with heavy bomb blasts and leads into a galloping riff that compels the listener to bang their head. This song takes the spotlight on the EP because it introduces haunting yet melodic guitar and bass solos. It is also the first song that we composed as a group.

Incognitive: This song is about post-traumatic stress disorder as well as catatonia. It has a classic death metal vibe, an ode to the album “The Bleeding” by Cannibal Corpse. Triplet feel, blast beats, and the song is heavily driven by the vocals.

Delirium is about what someone could experience in an insane asylum. One of our more premature songs but provides a wide variety of riffs that showcases the mayhem that comes from a chaotic mind.

Bereavement: Extreme depression/suicidal tendencies. Triplet feel, blast beats, and chromatic runs. This leads up to an enigmatic solo and razor-sharp tremolo picking ending with slamming chugs.

Rockshots Records – OUTSHINE Unveil “Our Misery” Off Upcoming Album “The Awakening”

“The Awakening” Out May 13th

Swedish goth rock/metal band Outshine will be presenting their fifth full-length “The Awakening” this coming May 2022 via Rockshots Records. The album follows their four previous LPs since forming in 2007. With a vision of darkness and melancholy in a visual landscape, their forthcoming album is all about what has happened in the world during pandemic times.

“This Covid-19 era has taken a toll on the music world and showed that in troubling times the ones in power, the elites, don´t care about the common person. The lies, corruption, hidden agendas, and the rise of fascist behaviour from both unknown and known “leaders” that expands anything we´ve seen in decades are influencing and misleading people around the world making them turn on each other. A depraved glorification of the elite that hasn´t the common human being in mind has risen. The pandemic has clearly shown who gains and who doesn’t. The poor and middle-class are getting poorer, the rich insanely rich and the politicians folding to comply to not be targeted.” says band founder, guitarist, and vocalist Jimmy Boman.

“The Awakening” will feature eight dark, melancholy, film noir-ish, heavy, and gloomy tracks with more of a Sisters Of Mercy, Paradise Lost & Type O Negative feel to it with influences from 1980’s horror movies soundscapes.

Today, the band shares their music video for the album’s second single “Our Misery”. Similar to their first single “It´s All Lies”, except this track is more about “our” misery, our plague.

“OUR MISERY” is about the last few years under Covid when the totalitarian movement spread like a wildfire. All the lies, the biased mainstream media spreading fear and pushing narratives that divided people even further. But the thing is that this is not their misery, their grief. It’s everyone’s misery, “Our Misery”, our plague. We think it is someone else’s problem and as long as I comply, everything will be fine. But that is not the way, we are all in it together. It’s our misery and we need to unite, we need to enlighten our fellow man to evolve and get out of this movement.” adds Boman.

0 BURIED REALM New Single “Quicksand Memory” Ft. Christopher Amott (Dark Tranquility, ex-Arch Enemy)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 1, 2022

BURIED REALM New Single “Quicksand Memory” Ft. Christopher Amott (Dark Tranquility, ex-Arch Enemy)

Self-Titled Album Out June 3, 2022

Buried Realm, the solo project of Josh Dummer, has a new offering coming out this summer, another well composed melodic death metal album featuring several well-known guests filling out the tracks. The second single is “Quicksand Memory” featuring Christopher Amott of Dark Tranquillity and formerly Arch Enemy. He is also featured on the track “The Iron Flame”. Dummer explains the meaning behind the single:

“It encompasses the overall vibe of the album, musically. The lyrics were written about forms of dementia, time/ memory loss – not understanding where you are, or who you are at times. The thought of sudden absence is terrifying.”

Listen to “Quicksand Memory” ft. Christopher Amott (Dark Tranquillity, ex-Arch Enemy) – https://youtu.be/pVHVv3n2GYU

Dummer, who writes and performs all the music aside from drums, which are performed by Heikki Saari, says that his writing process usually stems from a riff/melody or beat. He quickly scratches tracks from what he hears to get the ideas down. Then he sorts through the files and builds them up in a DAW.

Previously, Buried Realm has released “Embodiment of the Divine” in 2020 and “The Ichor Carcinoma” in 2017. All three albums have parallels both musically and lyrically and feature some of the same guests. On this third album, the biggest difference would be much better production.

With a gamut of musical influences ranging from Opeth to Kreator to Symphony X to old-school hair metal, Buried Realm is recommended for fans of Scar Symmetry, Children of Bodom, and Nevermore.

The self-titled album will be available on June 3, 2022.

About:
A true visionary is a rare thing, but such a man is Josh Dummer exemplified in his solo studio project Buried Realm. Influenced by personal experience and executed through metaphors, the progressive and heavy metal leaves room for interpretation and paints an interesting picture for listeners.

Inspired by Opeth, Kreator, Old Man’s Child, Symphony X (and tons of old Hair Metal!), Dummer is a man who is not afraid to gaze into the abyss for music and lyrical inspiration. He describes Buried Realm’s music as ‘fierce, cutting, technical, melodic, and memorable.’

Following up on his long-time idea of releasing a solo album, he seized the chance with his first offering “Ichor Carcinoma”. Released in 2017 it features guests such as Christopher Amott (Arch Enemy, Armageddon), Peter Wichers (Soilwork), Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun) and Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Jeff Loomis band).

In 2020, Dummer released is the follow-up sophomore “Embodiment of the Divine” and while it was parallel to the first, both musically and lyrically, it took a step in a sojourn journey. It featured many guests such as Andy Gillion (Mors Principium Est), Benjamin Ellis (Scar Symmetry), Bob Katsionis (ex-Firewind), Dean Arnold (Primalfrost, Operus, ex-Vital Remains), Lee McKinney (Born of Osiris), Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork), Rafael Trujillo (ex-Obscura), and Ryan Strain (Chaos For The Masses.

The next chapter in Dummer’s journey is the release of his third self-titled Buried Realm studio album on June 3, 2022. Once again, Dummer has invited many guests on this record with Bob Katsionis (Witch Bones), Christian Münzner (Poison Palace), Christofer Malmström (Elder Gods), Christopher Amott (The Iron Flame/ Quicksand Memory), Dan Swanö (Where the Armless Phantoms Glide) and Dean Arnold (Spectral Light, Primalfrost). The lyrical theme on this full length is about paranormal and psychological twists… mind tricks.

Discography:
2022 – Buried Realm
2020 – Embodiment of the Divine
2017 – The Ichor Carcinoma

– 30 –

“Like its predecessor, this one’s an absolute ripper on the more technical / heavy side of the melodic death metal coin.” – Metal Sucks (Embodiment of the Divine Review)

“Creative, melodic and really charming, “Embodiment of the Divine” is an amazing experience. 10/10” – Metal Temple

“Well done melodic death metal that hits all the right marks.” – Dead Rhetoric

“The fast-punching grooves in the song (The Wonder and Terror of Fortune) are a match for the ecstatic energy of everything else. One listen, and you can tell why this track was chosen as the album closer — it sends the listener out on an enormous high.” – No Clean Singing

“Buried Realm play an eager, galloping sort of melodeath, with lots of speedy leads, upbeat riffs, synthesizers, and solos everywhere. It’s almost as if Blind Guardian enthusiasm and subject matter met up with Scar Symmetry’s love of ambience and melodic-yet-death-y riffs… I commend Buried Realm for their songwriting, performances, and ambition.” – Angry Metal Guy

“Given that The Ichor Carcinoma has so many guests, it stands to reason that it has a diverse sound, ranging from hyper-speed solos, breakdowns, a mixture of screams and clean singing and more, but at the end of the day, it can be classified as an impressive melodic death metal debut.” – Decibel Magazine (Review – The Ichor Carcinoma 2017)

“Buried Realm sound a whole lot like what you’d expect given the bands whose guest musicians Dummer tapped for the project: aggressive, catchy, Sweden-inspired melodic death metal. If you like all the bands name-checked above, you’re sure to like this one. It’s incredibly well-done and expertly crafted.” – MetalSucks (Review – The Ichor Carcinoma 2017)

Romania’s DIRTY SHIRT Release New Album “Get Your Dose Now!” And Kick Off Tour

New Album “Get Your Dose Now!” Out April 1, 2022

Dirty Shirt, hailing from Romania, is gearing up for an exciting April 1st as they release their sixth album “Get Your Dose Now!”; play live on Rock FM Bucharest and later that day, kick off their new tour in support of the release. Each song on the album has a particular ambiance, very different from the others, but coherent. They explain the album:

“We think that the album will be very well received by fans because you can recognize our “touch” from previous albums, and at the same time it is a surprising album. Album after album, we try to reinvent ourselves keeping our “musical” credo from the beginning: never auto-censure ourselves. We keep using East European traditional influences, but at the same time, we explore new horizons. The fact that we worked with many talented musicians (almost 30 musicians appear on the album), gives authenticity and adds personality to our sound.”

“Get Your Dose Now!” is a shorter nine-track album, with a little more than 30 minutes, but Dirty Shirt maintains that the listening experience will be very intense, as they combine many influences, and the songs change constantly with complex orchestrations. It was produced by Mihai Tivadar, mixed and mastered by Adrian Bila Uritescu and the album artwork was done by Lia Cucuianu.

Dirty Shirt brings a truly unique live experience, huge energy, huge emotions, and fun, with a scaling lineup based on the performance, which adds a lot of authenticity and a great live sound. This tour will hit festivals including HellFest (France), Reload (Germany), Dong Open Air (Germany), Plane’r Fest (France), and Les Bichoiseries (France).

Recommended for anyone looking for something interesting and lively, Dirty Shirt is for fans of Twelve Foot Ninja, Dubioza Kolektiv, and Eluveitie.

The album “Get Your Dose Now!” is out on April 1, 2022.

Canadian Thrashers TRISKELYON (ft. Hyperia, Artach members) Tease New Music For First Full-Length

Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now!

Triskelyon is the new Canadian melodic thrash metal project created by Geoff Waye, guitarist for Artach and Category VI that was conceived in late 2021 as a studio-only project. Earlier this year, on January 25th, the band featuring contributions from vocalists Pete Healey and Marlee Ryley (Hyperia), along with drum programming by Raul Marques (Burning Torment) made their introduction to the metal world with a 3-track self-titled EP. The recording was received with great praise from new fans and the metal media that commented the following:

“This is the kind of band that really plays that pure, raw, seething thrash metal that I love.” (Wings of Death)

“The EP thunders around the listener’s ears with a massive, powerful sound and gripping guitar riffs… Geoff Waye also acts as lead guitarist in the melodic as well as brute playing with pinpoint accuracy…” (PowerMetal.de),

“Pete’s vocals definitely are more of the aggressive heavy/power metal variety while Marlee shakes the hell out of the speakers with a more aggressive and harsher, yet high-pitched style.” (The Metal Crypt)

Today, Triskeylon is proud to tease new music from their upcoming first length, founder Geoff Waye explains further.

“Based on the encouraging feedback, and the ongoing flood of riffs that I kept coming up with this year, I decided to do a full-length Triskelyon album. More details on the record will be available soon. All the guitars, bass, and drums are recorded. It’s just the vocals that are being worked on now. Musically, you can expect the same style of melodic thrash that was on the 3-track EP from Jan 2022.”

Listen to a sneak peek of Triskelyon‘s yet to be released album at the following link – https://youtu.be/eyJzQcJwkp8

With anthemic choruses that you can sing along to, speedy head-banging riffs, and just a straight-to-the-point melodic thrash sound, Triskelyon is recommended for fans of Anthrax, Death Angel, Metal Church, Testament, and Forbidden.

Canada’s HYPERIA, formerly of Calgary, AB, and now residing in Vancouver, BC announce they will be performing two album release shows in their former home province of Alberta.

The back-to-back shows in Edmonton on April 8th and Calgary on April 9th are in support of the band’s latest album “Silhouettes of Horror” released on March 18th.

“We are super excited to be returning to our home soil to play album release shows in both Calgary and Edmonton! The Albertan metal scene holds a special place in our hearts and we can’t wait to return and see all our friends!” adds guitarist Colin Ryley.

Event Details:

April 8 – Edmonton, AB – Shakers Roadhouse – w/ Rising Sun, Tower Hill, Arcane Tyrant – Info here.

April 9 – Calgary, AB – The Gateway – w/ Syryn, Osyron, Volition, Balrogath – Info here.

“Silhouettes of Horror” follows Hyperia‘s 2020 “Insanitorium” unleashed via Sliptrick Records and the 2019 EP “Fish Creek Frenzy”. A fast, melodic, and heavy-hitting thrasher, it lyrically explores parapsychology, night terror hallucinations, and inhumane government experiments.

“The album is mostly about government experiments, greed, and conspiracies’, but also about sleep disorders because I have suffered from them since childhood and because of that it was an easy theme to write about.” says vocalist Marlee Ryley.

“Silhouettes of Horror” contains ten original songs and a cover of ABBA‘s classic hit “Gimme Gimme Gimme”. Old and new fans of thrash, NWOBHM, and power metal will appreciate this 50-minute mosher. From its relentless opening track “Hypnagogia” to the super melodic and anthemic “Prisoner of The Mind” to the punchy and hard-hitting “Operation Midnight”, there’s something for every denim patch wearing metalhead to enjoy.

“Silhouettes of Horror” also sees guitarist Colin Ryley behind the soundboard again producing and mixing the record with mastering done by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland (Children of Bodom, Nightwish, Battle Beast). They also recruited good friend and session drummer Gord Alexander (Tessitura, Tides of Kharon, Immunize) for its recording. For the album’s artwork, they enlisted once more Andrei Bouzikov (Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust etc.).

About:
HYPERIA (originally from Calgary, AB now based in Vancouver, BC) is a Melodic Thrash Metal band known for their wailing vocals, shredding guitars, and fast, heavy music. Formed by Colin and Marlee Ryley in September 2018, they found 3 members from the local metal community and hit the ground running. Since the release of their debut EP “FISH CREEK FRENZY” in 2019, HYPERIA has been thrashing venues and taking the Western Canadian metal community by storm.

In April 2019, HYPERIA announced their signing SLIPTRICK RECORDS, who released their debut full-length album “INSANITORIUM” in January 2020. The band celebrated their release to a 300 person sold-out show in their hometown of Calgary, Canada.

Later that year, the band announced the departure of their previous drummer Jordan Maguire, while at the same time revealing the commencement of their second record “SILHOUETTES OF HORROR” with session drummer Gord Alexander (Tessitura, Tides of Kharon, Immunize). The album was completed in June 2021 and is due out in March 2022.

=====

“If you prefer your metal loud, dark and just a touch campy (and who doesn’t?), then Calgary-turned-Vancouver rockers Hyperia are planning to deliver with Silhouettes of Horror, the follow-up to 2020’s equally furious and equally fun Insanitorium. First single “Operation Midnight” is an unrelenting barrage of riffage held down by Marlee Ryley’s throat-blistering vocals.” – Exclaim! – One of Exclaim!’s most anticipated albums of 2022

“Energetic, melodic, fast, psychotic, and dynamic are just some of the elements that make Silhouettes of Horror an album that old and new fans of thrash, NWoBHM, and power metal will appreciate. The band even included a cover homage of Abba’s Gimme Gimme Gimme.” – Sentinel Daily

“All in all, Silhouettes of Horror gave me what I want for from a modern melodic thrash album. It’s fun, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s got cool stories to tell.” – Angry Metal Guy

“an addictive brand of primal thrash” – Dead Rhetoric

“This is one of the most exciting thrash albums I have heard in a fair few years. Hyperia have absolutely smashed it delivering an album that just keeps giving insane quality, track after track. 9/10” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Closing things out with an addictive-to-listen Abba cover, Hyperia ultimately showcase that while they’re here to bring all the notions of devastation and velocity to your current surroundings, they never forgot you need to have a little fun from time to time.” – The Razor’s Edge

“Marlee Ryley has a raw wail and a vicious scream that both play into this particular style extremely well, and it makes the whole package super enticing.” – Toilet ov Hell

“this album is the perfect blend of terror and thrash that blends well to create something uniquely familiar. It hits all the musical notes you’re after, while still indulging in a few out of this world solos and combos that are to die for. Favourite Tracks: Experiment 77, Silhouettes of Horror” – Metal Goddesses

“Classic metal / thrash / prog-ish metal, big voices, harsh thrashy stuff… great stuff!!” – The Mosh Pit 89.9FM (Madison, WI)

“No question, the Canadians know exactly what they want and like each of the eleven tracks. The 50 minutes of playing time fly by without boredom” – Saitenkult

“an album of extreme power and passion… Be warned! This is seriously furious thrash metal with an unusual vocal twist…” – Female Fronted Power

“She’s (vocalist Marlee Ryley) got quite the powerful screams that’ll rip your ears off at times… Overall the album is heavy and fast and packs a lot of punch…” The Metal Crypt

0 Iran’s HETEROCHROME Revisit Tragedy Through “Badbadak (The Flight)” Off “From The Ashes” Due Out May 13th

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 31, 2022

Iran’s HETEROCHROME Revisit Tragedy Through “Badbadak (The Flight)” Off “From The Ashes”

“From The Ashes’ Out May 13, 2022

Iran’s Heterochrome has a new album “From the Ashes” coming out this spring and the second single to entice listeners is the heavy “Badbadak (The Flight)”. Somber and driving in both topic and music, the single revisits the 2020 tragedy of flight 752. The band explains further:

“January of 2020 marked the tragedy of the Iranian Government shooting down the Ukrainian passenger airplane killing many of our loved ones including one of Mida’s old schoolmates. In the grief following that loss, Mida drew from an old school song called Badbadak (The Kite) and wrote this song. The music video represents the same suffering.”

The visually striking video was created by Mani Zonoozi who made it in a small aquarium with underwater equipment in the USA. It also features shots from Mida and Arash recorded in Canada and Finland.

The single and video for “Badbadak (The Flight)” can be heard at https://youtu.be/Ce1pjpfvWvE

and at Bandcamp – https://heterochrome.bandcamp.com/track/the-flight

This is not the only song on the album to deal with dark subject matters, as a whole, it is a much deeper dive into the personal experiences of the band members than their debut. They hope that the fans appreciate the new path they are taking, and connect with the songs on the same personal level as them. Written as a concept album, each track forms a small part of a bigger picture, and while each serving is a unique story on its own the album has been tailored to be enjoyed as a whole.

Heterochrome started out with a melodic and emotional progressive sound, however over time they started to experiment with the alternative, electronic, and nu-metal genres as well, trying to find a balance to perfectly capture the essence of their sound between those styles and traditional Persian music. They are recommended listening for fans of Porcupine Tree, Gojira, and Draconian.

“From The Ashes” will be released on May 13, 2022.

Rockshots Records – ANNIKEN’s New Single “Keep the Light” Pays Homage To Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington

New Album “Climb Out of Hell” Due Out May 13, 2022

Norwegian solo metal artist Anniken will be releasing her debut album “Climb Out of Hell” on May 13, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

Today, she shares her tribute to one of her teenage influences, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. She explains further.

“This song is an homage to Chester Bennington. I tried to give the sound some hints of Nu Metal. The riff is more rhythmical. The lyrics are about how Chester’s voice was a light in the darkness of difficult teenage years. I loved Linkin Park, especially their album Hybrid Theory. After Chester’s death, I couldn’t listen to their songs for a while. It was just too sad. Then one day I listened to their album One More Light on a flight back home from a holiday in the UK. The sound was quite different than that of Hybrid Theory, but I loved it. And the song One More Light is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs I have ever heard. I decided then to write some sort of response to that song, as a message to Chester. Just to say Thank you!”

“Keep the Light” can be seen and heard via its music video at https://youtu.be/k8W6yM08ND8

Spotify – https://spoti.fi/36ELVo6

Anniken has been a part of the Norwegian heavy metal scene for years with her band Darkest Sins, the studio project Ana – Metal for Charity, as well as being a part of her husband Marius Danielsen’s trilogy Legend of Valley Doom, both in the studio and with the live band. While in Darkest Sins she opened for bands such as Anthrax, Jorn, TNT, and UDO along with Legend of Valley Doom she has worked with legendary musicians such as Ralf Scheepers, Amanda Somerville, Roland Grapow, Matt Barlow, Doogie White, Jennifer Batten, and also actor John Rhys-Davies from the Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones movies.

Writing her own songs and having a profound love of lyrics, Anniken is now progressing into her solo endeavours. Anniken‘s debut album “Climb Out of Hell” features nine tracks, a few of them co-written with her husband Marius Danielsen.

It is a varied metal album that is melodic, raw, and catchy with different types of songs for every kind of metal fan. Some slow, some fast, most of them heavy. Some of the songs have a deeper meaning to them, while others are just exactly what you think they are.

Anniken adds:

“Firstly, I want people to enjoy the music. Secondly, I want them to notice the lyrics. I love listening to music while reading them and trying to understand the stories that are being told. I hope that the listeners feel the same way. I like to also add, that some of the songs were written a while back. I had others that didn’t make the cut. Overall, it is fun to write with other artists and see how the songs turned out both in the studio and live. But writing with others also means compromising. And that is one of the main reasons behind starting my solo project. I wanted to show what I could do, without the guys (yes, the bands I’ve played with always consisted of all guys and me). It is, unfortunately, easy to underestimate female artists in metal. At least, that is my experience. There aren’t as many women within the genre as there are men. Very often I experienced that people just assumed everything was written by the men in the group. I don’t mind being “just the singer”, but I would love to show the world that I am, in fact, more.”

“Climb Out of Hell” will be available on May 13, 2022.

CAVEAT Draw The “Silver” Lining With New Video Off New Album “Alchemy”

New Album “Alchemy” Out Now!

Progressive, aggressive, experimental, and melodic, Calgary, Canada’s Caveat has been making music together for the better part of two decades and in that time they have now put out five records (4 Albums, 1 EP). Their latest is “Alchemy” released on February 11th.

Today, in support of their latest full length, the band is premiering their new lyric video for “Silver” via All AlboutTheRock HERE.

“One of the more melodic songs on the album with catchy hooks, verses, and an infectious chorus that touches on the silver lining of your actions and how they create the foundation for one’s existence.” adds guitarist Greg Musgrave.

Since its inception, Caveat has always refused to be constricted to metal genre rules and employs a vast array of influences and techniques in their music. Their new album “Alchemy” is no different as it keeps the listener on their toes as they experience this complex and detailed musical offering.

The band says that they have been getting steadily more progressive since 2004 when guitarist Joe Sikorski joined the fray. With him, he brought many possibilities in the realm of guitar harmonies and his virtuosic skills as a soloist. They continue to say that they definitely peaked as far as technical prowess on 2006’s Red, but the twin guitars, cross vocalization and wide variety of styles and songs have been a trademark of Caveat for almost 20 years. There is still innovation to be had though which they explain further:

“The creation of Alchemy has been one that has taken a few years to come to fruition, due to the stage and challenges of the modern world, but with that, we feel like the subject matter and music is more relevant than ever dealing with subjects such as addiction, the loss of a loved one, personal growth and even finding that light at the end of the tunnel. Being the band is now going on two decades of making music together, Alchemy is the first album putting newest member Amanda Marie Bourdon on lead vocal duties. She joined during the recording of our last album showing a glimpse of her vocal potential; this time around Amanda steps into the limelight as the main vocalist, which still sharing vocal duties with Greg Musgrave, but offering a new, fresh take on the Caveat sound taking the listener to uncharted territories that have turned out amazing.”

Once again, Caveat proves that they still have a trick up their sleeves and are fully prepared to give fans something new and enticing, yet familiar to enjoy. Heavily focused on personal experiences, the lyrics on “Alchemy” are both dark and light with switches in feeling and; mood ever-changing throughout the album.

Recommended for fans of Opeth, Cynic, and Devin Townsend, “Alchemy” is now available on Caveatcalgary.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music.

About:

Caveat was formed in mid-2001 by founding members Greg Musgrave on guitar and vocals, Jawad Baloch on drums & Terry Baldwin on bass & backing vocals. Shortly afterward Casey Rogers was asked to join as the new drummer of Caveat. This lineup would go on to record and release the debut album ‘The Biggest Secret’, which they released on May 14th of 2003.

After supporting the album, Caveat decided to expand and recruited Joe Sikorski in 2004 to the second guitar, who had been playing with Thorazine since the mid-’90s.

During 2005 Caveat partnered up with Scarab Productions to record and release a self-titled EP, which ended up landing on numerous campus radio charts and found the band playing larger shows than ever before. After parting ways with Scarab Production in late 2006, the sound of the band evolved yet again, writing more progressive and technical sounding songs, resulting in their 2007 magnum opus full-length album entitled ‘Red’.

To release ‘Red’ Caveat partnered up with Toronto-based indie record label Cyclone Records. To the band’s delight, ‘Red’ was very well received in the metal community and the band played more than ever in & around Western Canada.

Just prior to the release of ‘Red’ several members would branch off and form the deathgrind side project Exit Strategy with Shane Hawco (ex-Thorazine). Exit Strategy quickly became popular in the Western Canadian extreme metal scene. In 2008, after a successful several-year run, Caveat would elect to go into indefinite hiatus to focus on Exit Strategy.

Five years later saw the brief reformation of the band when Calgary Metalfest organizer ‘Big’ Nate Reno asked Caveat to reform to play the inaugural festival in the summer of 2013, and the band obliged. Original bassist Terry Baldwin elected to not be involved with the reunion show, so Caveat turned to former Verbal Deception and current Illuminated Minerva bass player Matt Petti to handle bass duties for the Metalfest performance. After that short hiatus, the band officially reformed at the end of 2014 with Matt Petti replacing Terry Baldwin permanently on bass duties.

Songwriting began for a new album while playing a handful of shows and several metal festivals across western Canada. Recording began in May 2015 and the new album entitled ‘Consummation’ was released on June 24th, 2016. ‘Consummation’ was also a moment of further evolution of Caveat, as local musician Amanda Marie Bourden was asked to join the band as keyboard player and second lead vocalist. Amanda accepted the invitation, and her powerful vocals were featured throughout ‘Consummation’ providing a great contrast to Greg’s clean & brutal vocal attack.

In 2017 and 2018, writing commenced for the album and would feature new vocalist Amanda as more of the primary voice in the new material. This culminated into the most diverse ambitious collection of songs to date. Then in late 2019, recording began for the new album with both Joe and Casey handling main production duties this time. Production was completed in late 2020, but due to the Covid pandemic-related shutdowns, the band decided to shelve its release for the duration of 2021 as a result.

Now Caveat’s delayed fifth album, entitled ‘Alchemy’, is for release in early 2022, and once again Caveat promises to deliver a majestic metallic assault on the senses. Stay tuned and expect the unexpected.

Album and Live Band Line Up:
Amanda Marie Bourdon: Vocals & Keyboards
Greg Musgrave: Guitar & Vocals
Joe Sikorski: Guitars
Matt Petti: Bass

“I’d recommend the album (Alchemy) for fans of Meshuggah, Unleash The Archers, Opeth, Devin Townsend and the like, along with people who like an experimental, progressive feel to their music.” – Metal-Rules

“Track three ‘Infinite’ to me is the best song on the album. Fast and heavy, it really lets rip and is a contrast to what you’ve heard so far on the album. The song is about fear and how it motivates much of our lives. ‘Black Mirror’, inspired by an episode of the TV show of the same name, starts with an almost country and western feel before becoming a full-on rock song with lots of changing tempos and vocals. ‘Ghost’ is melodic and powerful, full of twists and turns from ballad to prog rock. It showcases the talents of both vocalists well with lyrics about overcoming your personal demons.” – Metal-Rules

“There is some stellar musicianship here from all members and the seven songs are well written and engaging. The highlight of Alchemy is definitely the lead vocals of Amanda Marie Bourdon, who has a simply excellent voice… Alchemy is definitely worth adding to your collection. 4/5″ – Heavy Music Headquarters

Alchemy opens with “Silver,” a relentless sonic assault of massive riffage that showcases Amanda Marie Bourdon’s powerful vocals with guitarist Greg Musgrave’s vicious growls. His gruffness injects several songs here, as do Bourdon’s keyboards. At times, she sings like a pissed-off Pat Benatar, and the rest of this quintet—Joe Sikorski on guitars, Matt Petti on bass and Casey Rogers on drums — matches her fury… this is an engaging listen for metal fans who don’t mind straying beyond the genre’s increasingly blurry lines.” – Shepherd Express (Milwaukee Weekly)

“On their new album CAVEAT offer seven songs, diverse in their compositions. While the guitars come up with dark, hard-hitting riffs as well as beautiful melodic parts, the mostly powerful, complex rhythmic brings in a great dynamic. By alternating between the different expressions of two strong singers, they lay all kinds of emotions into their music… All-together, “Alchemy” is an amazing listen, recommended for fans of genre-bending music. ” – Mostly Metal

“this album’s claim to take an experimental route is justified. With elements of many Metal subgenres flowing in their songwriting veins, it’s hard to stick Caveat into one category… Nevertheless, Caveat brings strength, and wonder to the Metal scene and has given us only a glimpse of what is to come.” – Metal Godesses

“A production that should be most satisfying for many fans of progressive metal, and perhaps a bit more for those who approach this style of metal from the metal rather than the progressive rock direction at that.” – Progressor
