EPK – DOLL – Bear Claw (2026)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We had such an amazing response to our first “Animal Crackers” concept with our earlier release this year for “Shark Bait”.  We had always envisioned releasing three animal-themed songs as part of our original plan, but the positive feedback really propelled us to finalize the product with our next song in the trilogy, Bear Claw. We think it’s safe to say this is our best effort yet, when it comes to bringing back some of that legacy Doll riffing, mixed with the hardcore element that we toyed with in Shark Bait, and really getting creative with the vocals and lyrics. We hope that this one is just as well received as Shark Bait, if not better. I guess it depends if you’re more of a land or sea animal lover.” – DOLL

“#1 Doll – Zach’s Picks of the Week – July 7 – 12, 2025 – Canadian Beats (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)

“In one of the best comeback stories in music in 2025, Canadian Alt-Rock duo DOLL will release their first new collection of material since 2011’s The Ragdoll Diaries… In addition to five slamming originals, DOLL chips in an inspired take on the Deep Purple classic rock anthem – “Smoke On the Water!” “- Ghost Cult Magazine (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)

“Doll sharpens their grit with new muscle and melody. Their return after more than a decade is not a nostalgia trip but a rebirth. The Ottawa band’s forthcoming EP Better Days, Different Times (July 18th) expands their core formula of raw energy and no-frills honesty by inviting new players and broader sonic choices into the mix. But even with cello flourishes and genre jumps, their identity remains firmly intact.” – Amplify The Noise (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)

“The new track ‘Shark Bait’ from Doll is a blast! The world has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of “JAWS” and now we have a brand new punk-fueled bite in the pants to go along with all of the bloody hoopla. ‘Shark Bait’ is basically straight ahead hardcore riffage with razor sharp teeth, fun lyrics and a precursor to their new EP, ‘Better Days, Different Times’ set for a July 18th release. “Christina Kasper’s changeable voice is impressive.” – Keep On Rocking (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)

“‘Bleeding’ is a colourful mixture of Hard and Alternative Rock, paired with influences from Punk and Gothic, in a very melancholic sounding melody. The powerful voice of singer Christina Kasper dominates like a siren. ” – Metal Heads Forever Magazine (2025 – Better Days, Better Times)

“The Rag Doll Diaries” is the story of a road weary/world weary band with so much to say and share. Its the combination on heartache and despair offered with a hand meant for holding. In other words here is real music for the real world.” – Heavy Metal Time Machine (2013 – The Ragdoll Diaries)

“Doll was conceived as a bridge between punk and rock, a bridge that was fulfilled in the early ’90s by bands like Nirvana and the mid-’90s by Foo Fighters… A good punk band doesn’t write about the joys of picking daisies and Doll is no exception.” – The Whig Standard (Kingston, ON) (2013)

“Doll provides a missing link between punk and rock.” – The Intelligencer (Belleville, ON) (2013)

“The four-piece are definitely reminiscent of the grunge era and have provided a concise four-word biography of the band: “Rock N’ Fucking Roll.” – Exclaim! (2011 – The Ragdoll Diaries)

“One of the most striking aspects of Inside The Dollhouse, after Christina’s whiskey-and-hell voice, is a fictional character by the name of Sally created to carry the songs. A concept completely unexpected given the band’s twentysomething youth, immediately reminiscent of Alice Cooper’s infamous character Steven, introduced on Welcome To My Nightmare in 1975.” – Bravewords (2010 – Inside the Dollhouse)

“The debut from Ottawa’s Doll caught me instantly like a fish on a hook. This is serious music. Dark, intense and magnetic, this is the kind of gritty ’90s grunge that doesn’t fuck around. Fronted by the vocally vicious Christina Kasper, Doll recall an angry and confused era of music devoid of pop but not catchiness. Kasper howls in the vein of Courtney Love and Brodi Dalle, and while the lyrics are simple and not exactly fresh, they are impacting. Songs like “Perfect” deal with trying to live up to society’s standards, while “Sally Lost Her Shoelaces” and “Daddy’s Little Girl” deal with hurt, confusion and heroin against a backdrop of chunky guitars, assaulting drums and badass attitude. Julie-Anne Madore’s backing vocals add a whispered, haunting feel to this record. If the dirty rock’n’roll alone doesn’t reel you in, nothing will.” – Exclaim (2009 – Inside the Dollhouse)

=============================

About The Single Artwork:

With Bear Claw, we really wanted to revive some of the artwork that we were used to seeing as kids, with the Smokey the Bear posters, so we definitely went heavy on that look and feel, but then bringing in our own comedic elements with having Doll on the hat, and rebranding Smokey as Grungey, and Grungey having a chip on his shoulder, giving him some attitude. Mark Kidd once again shines with the concept and brought the end result to life.

About the single (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Musically, we aimed to revive some of the classic Doll sound, featuring leads, heavy wah-wah pedal usage, Christina’s signature bends, and pushing it to the max with some nifty quick strumming, all while bringing the heat with the hardcore-infused chorus from Pete, courtesy of the drop tuning.

We definitely wanted to create a sense of danger and suspense, with the breakdown in the middle or so, recording through a very low-fi head and amp combination, giving that spooky feel, and then coming in with the crunch from the PRS MT100, giving that symbiotic mix of old and new. Driving as much atmosphere and emotion without introducing keyboards.

Vocally, this song is definitely our most creative, and while true to form, Christina did a wicked job at changing up the delivery and bringing in some aspects that we haven’t done before. It was important for us to make the song fun, introducing some light-hearted lyrics in the process, but still keeping with that raw and rock vocal and lyric that Doll has always been about.

======================================

Fun Facts:

1. Christina and Pete are married.

2. They have been supporting and pioneering the Ottawa local scene by organizing shows in the area for over 20 years.

3. On tour, we always had hot and sour soup in every city.

4. Our first out-of-town runs of shows, we didn’t even have a band van, which we ended up finding late night the day before, purchased off someone privately, and had insured and plated the next morning before driving off in our amazing two-tone brown GMC Safari (RIP), the best van ever created.

5. Everyone was a huge fan of Sonic Youth

After a long hiatus, Doll returned in 2025 with a brand‑new album—and they’re keeping the momentum going with a follow‑up 2026 single, “Bear Claw,” releasing January 16th.

Doll is a Canadian alternative rock band from Ottawa, Ontario.

In 2009, Doll released their first album, Inside The Dollhouse. A video was filmed for their debut single, “Daddy’s Little Girl,” which aired on MuchMusic and MusiquePlus. A second video was filmed for their next single, “Sally Lost Her Shoelaces.” Madore left the band a few years later, with Paquette returning to take her place.

In 2011, they released their second album, The Ragdoll Diaries. Two singles and videos emerged from this release: “FMO” and “Youth of Today, Hope for Tomorrow.” The album was issued on both CD and vinyl. Soon after, Alex Vance joined the lineup as the new bassist.

Over the years, Doll has shared the stage with an impressive roster of artists, opening for Three Days Grace, Lacuna Coil, Danko Jones, Spinnerette, Protest the Hero, Band of Skulls, Anvil, Halestorm, SNFU, Hanzel Und Gretyl, Civet, The Creepshow, Die Mannequin, and many more.

Montreal, QC – January 16, 2026

ANTHEA Unveils First Single “Phantom In The Masquerade” From New Album “Beyond The Dawn” Out April 2026

Rockshots Records announces the release of “Phantom in the Masquerade”, the brand new single by Los Angeles symphonic metal act Anthea, out now on all digital platforms.

“Phantom in the Masquerade” is the first single taken from Anthea’s upcoming third full-length album, “Beyond The Dawn,” and serves as an introduction to the band’s most ambitious and theatrical chapter to date. The song explores the feeling of being invisible while surrounded by others, translating emotional isolation into a powerful and evocative musical narrative.

Commenting on the track, the band states:

“‘Phantom in the Masquerade’ is one of the most theatrical songs we’ve written. We wanted it to feel both catchy and haunting, with lyrics that capture the experience of being surrounded by people yet completely unseen. It sets the stage for the dramatic direction we’ve been embracing, both musically and visually.”

Musically, the single highlights Anthea’s evolved sound, blending symphonic metal foundations with strong melodic hooks, driving guitar work, and layered orchestrations. The balance between immediacy and atmosphere reflects the broader identity of “Beyond The Dawn“, an album conceived as a dynamic journey where each song offers a distinct mood while remaining part of a cohesive whole.

Expanding on the vision behind the album, the band adds:

“This record pushed us to explore every corner of our sound – from fast and heavy tracks to more emotional and melodic moments. ‘Phantom in the Masquerade’ introduces that range and gives listeners a clear sense of the dramatic and expressive path the album follows.”

An official music video accompanies the release, transforming the song’s themes into a symbolic visual narrative centered on identity, isolation, and transformation. Set within a masquerade ball, the video reinforces Anthea’s strong theatrical aesthetic, a defining element of both their music and live performances.

“Phantom in the Masquerade” marks the opening step toward “Beyond The Dawn“, an album shaped by themes of growth, transition, uncertainty, and renewal, representing a significant evolution in Anthea’s songwriting and artistic vision.

BIOGRAPHY:
Anthea is a symphonic metal band from Los Angeles, California, known for their distinctive theatrical approach and dynamic blend of symphonic, melodic, and progressive metal elements. Founded in 2015 by vocalist and keyboardist Diego Valadez, Anthea emerged from a desire to explore a more expressive and cinematic musical language combining powerful metal foundations with strong melodic sensibilities and dramatic atmospheres.

What began as a side project quickly evolved into a full-fledged band when Valadez joined forces with longtime collaborators from the local metal scene. Drawing from diverse influences ranging from symphonic metal and melodic death metal to musical theater and film scores, Anthea developed a sound that balances intensity and emotion, heaviness and accessibility, always placing storytelling at the core of their identity.

The band made their live debut at the iconic Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood and steadily gained recognition for their live performances and strong visual aesthetic. Their debut album “Illusion” (2020) received widespread critical acclaim, followed by “Tales Untold” (2022), which further solidified their reputation within the international symphonic metal scene through glowing reviews and extensive media coverage.

In recent years, Anthea has continued to refine and expand their artistic vision. The introduction of backing vocalists known as The Sirens added rich harmonic layers and reinforced the band’s theatrical dimension, both in the studio and on stage. This evolution culminates in their upcoming third studio album, “Beyond The Dawn”, their most ambitious release to date, showcasing a broader dynamic range, heavier arrangements, and a more pronounced dramatic identity.

With “Beyond The Dawn”, Anthea presents a mature and confident chapter in their journey, offering a cohesive yet varied listening experience shaped by themes of growth, transition, uncertainty, and renewal. Blending compelling melodies, powerful orchestration, and expressive songwriting, the band continues to establish itself as a distinctive voice within modern symphonic metal.

– 30 –

“Beyond the Dawn is the third album from Los Angeles, California-based Anthea and finds them leaning more into their symphonic metal side and away from the progressive elements of their last one, 2022’s Tales Untold. Once again employing clean and harsh male vocals and a crystal-clear production, Beyond the Dawn has everything you want from symphonic metal, from a myriad of melodic hooks to intricate keyboard and guitar parts that swirl about one another effortlessly. The songwriting is consistently good throughout the album, without any dips or peaks to speak of… it is certainly quite enjoyable while it is on, doing exactly what fans of the genre want.” – The Metal Crypt

“An epic adventure that everyone needs to go on. 10/10” – Mark Lacey – Power Play Magazine

“The new album ‘Tales Untold’ – released in 2022 – has an even bigger sound than its predecessor, projecting a huge cinematic aura onto its listeners.” – Iron Mathew – Metal Gods TV

“ANTHEA “Tales Untold” Surpasses All Expectations For A Progressive Power Metal Album” – Doug Groff – Rock You Show

“Tales worth telling!” – Bryce Van Patten – Metal Express Radio

“I find ANTHEA’s interpretation to be both fresh and personal.” – Dave “That Metal Guy” Campbell – Metal Temple

“Blends speed, pomp, a catchy chorus and proggy keys into a unified and engaging whole that is fun to sing along with while playing air instruments” – MetalMike – Metal Crypt

“The song writing on this album is commendable and of the highest calibre. If you are looking out for a melodic sound with plenty of surprises and a true rollercoaster experience, you’ve hit the jackpot with this one. Go for it!” (9.5/10) – Ankit Sood – The Metal Resource

“The music and the vocals work together in perfect harmony, whether its through gentler moments or full unashamed bombastic power. Lyrically, Anthea offer a truly poetic experience, elevating a listener’s wonder and imagination to optimum level.” (5 STARS) – Amy Lawrence – MMH Radio

“A long-term, melodic debut album, with excellent musical combinations, there are different tempos that can be heard as Thrash metal briefly, they have a strong combination that goes from Symphonic Metal to Power Metal and vice versa, at the beginning they start very Power Metal and end very Symphonic Metal, that gives variety to the album!” (90/100) – Darkzen Dragon

“Overall, a fast paced and very infectious album of heavy hitting symphonic power metal with stunning twists and turns.” (9.5/10) – Iron Mathew Collins – Metal Gods TV

“I believe that Anthea have managed to convince us of the value of their musical ideas with a strong debut and of course with the composite result they present to us in ‘Illusion’.” – Angelos Hontzias – Rockway.gr

“A sort of dramatic theatrical experience that of this “Illusion”, which ranks among the best releases of the gothic-epic panorama of 2020.” (8/10) – Vittorio “Vice” Giorcelli – Tutto Rock Magazine

“Congratulations ANTHEA on achieving one of the better albums for 2020!” (9/10) – Kevin Lewis – Metal-Temple

0 Ottawa’s DOLL Premiere New Single “Bear Claw” To Follow 2025 Comeback Album “Better Days, Better Times”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 16, 2026

Ottawa’s DOLL Premiere New Single “Bear Claw” To Follow 2025 Comeback Album “Better Days, Better Times”

Ottawa alternative rock band DOLL launches into 2026 with the release of their explosive new single “Bear Claw,” premiering today exclusively via New Noise Magazine alongside a brand‑new lyric video. The track serves as the next chapter in the band’s creative resurgence following their 2025 comeback album “Better Days, Better Times.”

“Bear Claw” continues DOLL’s evolving “Animal Crackers” trilogy, which began earlier this year with the fan‑favourite single “Shark Bait,” featured on “Better Days, Better Times.”

“We had such an amazing response to our first ‘Animal Crackers’ concept with ‘Shark Bait. We always planned to release three animal‑themed songs, but that positive feedback really propelled us as we finalized the next piece of the trilogy, Bear Claw,” the band explains.

The band believes fans will connect strongly with this new installment:

“I think it’s safe to say this is our best effort yet. We brought back some of that legacy DOLL riffing, mixed in the hardcore elements we toyed with in ‘Shark Bait,’ and really pushed ourselves creatively with the vocals and lyrics. We hope this one is just as well received, if not better. I guess it depends on whether you’re more of a land or sea animal lover.”

The single’s artwork pays homage to classic Smokey the Bear posters, reimagined through DOLL’s gritty, tongue‑in‑cheek lens. Artist Mark Kidd once again brought the concept to life with bold character design and a nostalgic yet rebellious aesthetic.

“We wanted to revive some of the artwork we grew up with. We went heavy on that Smokey‑the‑Bear look, but added our own comedic twist, putting Doll on the hat and rebranding Smokey as Grungey. He’s got a chip on his shoulder, some attitude,” the band adds.

Musically, “Bear Claw” taps into the band’s classic sound while pushing into new territory. The track features signature leads, heavy wah‑wah pedal work, Christina’s unmistakable bends, and bursts of rapid‑fire strumming. The chorus hits with a hardcore‑infused punch from Pete, driven by drop‑tuned guitars that add weight and urgency.

The band also leaned into atmosphere and tension, crafting a breakdown recorded through a low‑fi head and amp setup to create a spooky, suspenseful moment before slamming back in with the crunch of the PRS MT100. The result is a dynamic blend of old‑school grit and modern heaviness, achieved without relying on keyboards, instead letting raw instrumentation carry the emotion.

With “Bear Claw,” DOLL continue to build on their renewed momentum, delivering a track that’s fierce, fun, and unmistakably their own.

“This song is definitely our most creative vocally. Christina changed up the delivery in ways we haven’t done before. We wanted the song to be fun, with some light‑hearted lyrics, but still true to the raw rock vocal and lyrical style that DOLL has always been about.”

Colorado power metal storytellers Siege Perilous ignite the next chapter of their musical saga with the release of their first single and music video, “As the Dragon Falls”, featuring legendary vocalist Fabio Lione (Rhapsody, Angra). The track serves as the first glimpse into the band’s sweeping debut concept album, “Becoming the Dragon,” out March 27, 2026.

Forged from the camaraderie of live‑action roleplay and a shared love of epic storytelling, Siege Perilous has built a reputation for crafting cinematic, narrative‑driven metal that blends myth, history, and high‑fantasy adventure. Their upcoming full‑length album marks the culmination of years of collaborative writing, world‑building, and musical evolution.

“As the Dragon Falls” is more than a single; it’s a milestone for the band, especially for vocalist Shaughnessy McDaniel, who has been a devoted Rhapsody fan since his teens.

“As the Dragon Falls represents a true heavy metal dream come true for all of us, but especially for Shaughnessy. Working with Fabio far exceeded anything we could have hoped for. His classic soaring vocals combined with Shaughnessy’s lower register create a really unique and cool power metal sound,” adds the band.

The song’s narrative twist, where slaying the dragon becomes a metaphor for the double‑edged nature of achieving one’s goals, adds a bittersweet emotional core to the track. Lione himself was drawn to the story and, according to the band, “really gave it his all.”

Musically, the single fuses Siege Perilous’ signature melodic power with the symphonic grandeur of classic Rhapsody, delivering a heroic anthem that darkens into something far more ominous by its final moments.

“Becoming the Dragon” is a ten‑part epic chronicling the rise, fall, and metamorphosis of the “Child of Prophecy,” a hero who must confront fate, tragedy, and ultimately his own transformation into the titular dragon. The album features guest performances from both Fabio Lione and powerhouse vocalist Kristin Starkey (Twilight Force, Temperance), who also serves as McDaniel’s vocal mentor.

“Creating a massive, sweeping power metal epic has been a dream since before we even formed this band. This album represents our collective experience, skill, hopes, and dreams as musicians,” says the band.

The record showcases the band’s evolution since their earlier EPs, with more complex arrangements, expanded vocal range, and orchestration that heightens the album’s cinematic scope. Each track stands alone as a powerful metal anthem, yet together they form a cohesive narrative journey.

Their writing process is uniquely collaborative; every member contributes to the story and the music, resulting in songs that carry the DNA of the entire band. This approach, while unconventional, has become one of their greatest strengths.

Recommended for fans of Wind Rose, Hammerfall, Sabaton, Blind Guardian, and Iron Maiden, “Becoming the Dragon” is due out on March 27, 2026 and available for pre-order / pre-save at the following link:

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that Creation’s Call is a blast. Siege Perilous has succeeded in creating what I would call Epic Power Metal for the Working Man. They don’t waste your time with overlong symphonic interludes between tracks, melodramatic narration, or overproduction that tests the limits of your sanity. The band gets right to the point and pulls you into their epic tales of heroic daring immediately. This is a nice breath of fresh air and if this EP is anything to go by, Siege Perilous has a great future ahead of them. Yes, this could be considered power metal but the no-nonsense approach and urgency to the songwriting makes this release absolutely worth checking out for those of us in the NWOTHM scene. Plus, it’s really just a lot of fun. This one is highly recommended. THENWOTHM SCORE: 9/10” – The NWOTHM

“‘Creation’s Call’ never gets boring, even on Heavy Rotation. Five gifted musicians have succeeded in creating a varied EP. The twin guitar solos are convincing the whole time. It’s just a shame that it ends after twenty-one minutes. It makes you wish for a full-length album. And, of course, a thrilling live performance. 9.3/10” – Metalheads Forever Magazine

“solid power metal style that should satiate any LARP-attendees or Dungeons and Dragons mavens. Keep an eye on this quintet – wield thy sword as they lead the battle charge for more quality power metal from the states. 8/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“There are any number of quality bands like Siege Perilous active right now but the style is popular (and I love it) and these guys are as decent as the next similar act. They lean more the Metal side of the equation using the folk and orchestral moments as flavour, not the main style. CREATION’S CALL is a fine effort and I could easily see them on tour with Brothers Of Metal, All For Metal, Fellowship and other costumed Metal heroes. Worth checking out!” 4/5 – Metal Rules

“Denver metal mob reckon that their goal on “Creation’s Call” was to build a world and tell a story in “three to five minutes.” It’s a world of fantasy, as “Oathsworn” proves, where metal rules and swords are held high. “Across The Rubicon,” however, is delivered with such skill that you can’t resist getting sucked in with them. Shaughnessy McDaniel has a brilliant “metal” voice, roaring on “Sons Of The Verdant,” and guitar duo Scott Hancock and Cody Martinez can knock out a NWOBHM riff like it’s 1982, as the title song underlines. “Brothers Of Five” brings the epic one last time, galloping in proper fashion, and it’ll be interesting to see how Siege Perilous develops. This is one hell of an opening statement, mind you. 8.5/10” – Maximum Volume Music

“Creation’s Call not only highlights Siege Perilous’ dedication to epic storytelling but also emphasises their versatility within the power metal genre. With influences ranging from historical events to high fantasy, this EP offers a rich and varied auditory experience that will captivate fans. Prepare to embark on a grand journey through myth and history as Siege Perilous delivers their latest saga.” – Amplify The Noise

“Creation’s Call it is a cohesive and well-crafted work, where the combination of rich letters in history and fantasy, with a meticulous musical execution, it makes mandatory, regardless of its short duration. [82%]” – Via Nocturna

“Creation’s Call doesn’t get boring even in heavy rotation. Five gifted musicians have created a varied EP. The solos of the twin guitars are convincing across the board. It’s just a shame that it’s over after twenty-one minutes. You want a full-length album. And of course a sweaty live performance. 9.4/10” – Keep On Rocking

“Colorfully mixed NWOTHM/Epic Heavy/Power Metal elixir that appeals to a broad range of fans between ALESTORM, BATTLEROAR, ETERNAL CHAMPION, GATEKEEPER, IRON MAIDEN, RUNNING WILD and WRATHBLADE. Awakens a huge appetite for a full long-play album. On this EP you can clearly see that the band has enormous potential and has already given a great taste of their skills. Conclusion: Strong-looking genretobak that falls out of the usual range! 8,5/10” – FFM-Rock

““Oathsworn” simply explodes out of the gate. The band ratchets every possible dial up to 11 and charges into battle with an epic statement of intent.” – Nine Circles

““Brothers Of The Five” offers classic power metal as you would appreciate it. The strain on the neck muscles is correspondingly high and in some places the number cannot deny a slight Maiden stable smell.” – Hellfire Magazin

GRAVEWITCH’s New Video Summons “Damnable Evil” From Blackened Thrash Self-Titled Album Out Now!

+ Show Date w/ Savage Master & Oxygen Destroyer – Feb 12th in Eugene, OR

Blackened thrash metal duo Gravewitch have released the official lyric video for “Damnable Evil,” the second single from their self‑titled full‑length album Gravewitch, which dropped this past June via Rock Sun Records.

Created by Kenji of Tsunami Films & Narcotic Wasteland, the “Damnable Evil” lyric video marks a first for the band, an intense visual companion that amplifies the track’s themes of psychological torment and early‑20th‑century asylum horror.

The track dives into the grim reality of early insane asylums, imagining the terror and mistreatment faced by those confined within. Musically, it blends Gravewitch’s signature blackened thrash with a heavier, groove‑driven undercurrent, an unsettling, immersive backdrop for the song’s lyrical descent into madness.

“The instrumentation captures what the lyrics are explaining. It’s different from the rest of the album, but still very much us,”
adds Chris Fleming (Guitar/Vocals/Bass).

Watch and listen to the video for “Damnable Evil” at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWtDqR4wq8I

Formed in 2013 in the high desert shadows of Bend, Oregon, Chris Fleming (guitar/vocals) and Andrew Ingraham (drums) have spent more than a decade forging their own brand of blackened thrash, fast, melodic, atmospheric, and uncompromisingly heavy. Their sound draws from titans like Kreator, Amon Amarth, Dark Funeral, Uada, Skeletonwitch, Emperor, and Vader, while remaining unmistakably their own.

Their self‑titled 2025 album represents the band’s most ambitious and polished work to date. Written during the global uncertainty of 2020, the record explores a wide spectrum of dark themes, from war and witchcraft to sleep paralysis, necromancy, and the infamous serial killer H.H. Holmes. Each of the album’s ten tracks stands apart, reflecting the chaotic energy of the era in which they were created.

“This is our first professional recording where listeners can truly hear the sound we’ve been striving for. Every song takes the audience on a different journey. We wanted this album to be an adventure. We’ve always been told we sound like a five‑piece band even though we’re a duo. This album shows who we are and where we’re going,”
 says Fleming.

Since their formation, Gravewitch have become a force in the Pacific Northwest metal scene, sharing stages with Warbringer, Goatwhore, Flotsam and Jetsam, Lord Dying, Nervosa, and more. Their reputation for ferocious, tightly executed live performances has earned them a cult following and a respected place in the underground.

Despite their growing success, the band has remained fiercely independent. Fleming handles the bulk of instrumentation on their releases, while both members collaborate closely on themes, structure, and songwriting. Their DIY ethos has shaped their identity from day one.

Gravewitch‘s self-titled album, released on June 18, 2025, via Rock Sun Records, is available on all digital platforms and CD.

“Turn the ignition on this song (Mistress of Hate) and it will rev up your engine into the red zone damned fast, with drums and bass pumping like high-octane pistons, the guitars going fiery and wild, and the vocals gnashing at your throat.” – No Clean Singing

“There’s a lot to savour here as Gravewitch inserts flecks of death and thrash into their already potent formula. I’ve given this album quite a few spins now and I recommend you do too.” – Neil Arnold / Metal Forces Magazine

“A blood-soaked gore-fest, of intense proportions; ‘Gravewitch’ does just as expected; fulfilling its purpose. Brilliant technical precision’s where this is at, though structurally and tonally, it’s not that different to most others in the same genre. So mainly, it just needs to introduce some variation and original signature touches, to add to the already highly skilled craftsmanship. Melodically, there’s room for growth, but all in all, an effective album, with a lot of well showcased musicianship. 9/10” – Rock Queen Reviews

EPK – Conflux Collective – In the Wake of Saturn (2026)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“In the Wake of Saturn is a journey through pain, fear, defeat, survival, and finally rebirth. It’s a transformative experience that was created out of the necessity for change. It’s a complex album that took a tremendous amount of effort to bring to light. Jeanne Comateuse did a fantastic job at bringing it to life with a brilliant mix. Many obstacles impeded the production, and it’s only out of sheer will and the refusal to quit that it is now complete and available for the audience. This is a DIY album. It’s not perfect, but it’s unique. A true underground monster, made for those who appreciate and seek the unusual. It features a great mix of vocals. Brutal, but very clear and purposeful. It has a bit of everything, some grooving parts, brutal parts, and melodic parts. It’s a journey, and the last song is the perfect closer.” – Tommy McKinnon – Conflux Collective

“this maddening musical force comprised of  many of today’s best death metal musicians. – Austin Weber, No Clean Singing (EP The Inception, 2016)

“The Conflux Collective deliver their first song unto us, a brain scrambling ditty called “Lucid Hallucinations”. This new multi-national death metal group is definitely a band you’ll want to keep an eye on!” – Metal Injection (EP The Inception, 2016)

“Each song features a rotating cast of different vocalists and bassist on each song, with the only members on all three being guitarist/composer Chase Frasier (Continuum, ex-Decrepit Birth, ex-Son Of Aurelius, ex- Animosity, etc) and highly skilled drummer Tommy McKinnon (Akurion/Neuraxis as the only constants in this maddening musical force comprised of  many of today’s best death metal musicians. The three vocalists on The Inception are: Mike Disalvo (Akurion/Coma Cluster Void/ex-Cryptopsy) on track one, Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy) on track two, and Beneath The Massacre vocalist Elliot Desgagnes on track three. All three songs on The Inception sound and unfold differently than each other, which bodes well for the groups future moving forwards! Jam below  for some high-octane shred heavy tech-death that’ll bore a hole through your head. But do so in a finessed way of course!” – Metal Injection (EP The Inception, 2016)

“At just about 10-minutes in length, The Inception feels more like a teaser than anything else. But that’s just a consequence of how strong it sounds. If they continue to enlist the best of the best as they move forward with more material, Conflux could really be something special. A must-hear if you prefer your death metal on the tech-ier side of things (or you dig any of the members involved).” – Dead Rhetoric (EP The Inception, 2016)

“Helmed by guitarist/songwriter Chase Fraser (Continuum, ex Animosity, Decrepit Birth) and drummer Tommy Mckinnon (Akurion/Neuraxis), Conflux Collective is a new collaborative death metal project bent on both pushing the bounds of creativity within the genre and the culminating of ideas with other artists in the community.” – New Noise Magazine (EP The Inception, 2016)

================================================

About The Album Artwork:

Filip Ivanovic created something truly powerful. I wanted something that evokes rebirth, awakening and power. The image shows a giant creature emerging from the depths, as if from a deep sleep. One can see fragments of shattered stone falling from the walls of a cavern. It’s a vision of nightmares, but also one that inspires awe and humility.

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Through the 8 songs, one will be revolted, repulsed, empowered and inspired. It tells a story of loss, but also renewal. Songs are not structured in the traditional “pop rock” verse/chorus fashion, yet there are certainly strong parts that sound like choruses. Expect climaxes, heavy grooves, blast beats, solos… All with the vocals leading the way between the different sections. Jesse said it best: “… it’s a journey”.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

1. The Antidote 03:02 – Music: Chase Fraser. Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
The opening track is all-out brutal/melodic nastiness. It talks about being complacent in the face of ignorance and prejudice, and is a reminder that self-discipline is the way to counter the pressure of a civilization where valour is ridiculed, and sloth is celebrated.

2. Devoid of True Form 02:39 – Music: Chase Fraser. Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
Based on the Buddhist concept of Emptyness, or my understanding of it. My first real attempt at making this into a full-on death metal song. Like the first song, it’s balls out, but a bit more straightforward.

3. Ethereal Executioner 04:45 – Music: Chase Fraser. Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
Some of the craziest and most daring drum parts I’ve ever recorded. This truly progressive song talks about the severe consequences of addiction, and the bottom of the pit from which one may perish, or rise to reinvent oneself.

4. Devouring Light 04:59 – Music: Chase Fraser. Lyrics: Jesse Brint
This doom-leaning, torturous piece is a groove-filled and crafty maelstrom of heavy riffs and open chords. The bass line is rich with attitude. The words talk about witnessing an ecological disaster of epic magnitude.

5. Blood from a Rock 04:18 – Music & Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
A two-fold song that starts with a brutal assault and resolves in a labyrinth of heavy old school breakdowns. The lyrics are about arrogance and greed.

6. Reincarnation 03:20 – Music: Chase Fraser. Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
Another one of Chase’s brilliant, brutal, progressive death metal offerings. It speaks of overcoming desire.

7. In the Wake of Saturn 02:29 – Music & Lyrics: Tommy McKinnon
The eponymous song of the album. The fastest song on the whole album. Meant to be a straightforward assault with memorable melodies. In the Wake of Saturn, literally, this album was forged…

8. Desperate Post-Humanist 05:18 – Music: Tommy McKinnon. Lyrics: Eric Burnet
The closer of the album. An unexpected and risky fresco, highlighting the dialogue between a man and a machine. It is the most layered song on the whole album. It has upward of 55 audio tracks.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1. Max:
I really appreciated the challenge and was honoured to get the call. The guitar solo on Blood From a Rock is completely insane and took me out of my comfort zone. As for the vocals, I was pleasantly surprised that the cleans made it to the final cut. I think it showcases the project’s diversity and open-mindedness.

2. Jeff:
The only thing I could add is a huge thank you, @Tommy, for thinking of me on this! I love challenging myself, and you put me in the best position to do so. And to work with you again is a genuine pleasure, buddy!

3. Tommy:
When I finally came to the realisation that this band would never see the light of day unless I finished it up, my first step was to record the bass. This is the first album I ever recorded on bass guitar, kind of a rough first step for a guy who can barely find his way through a blues. I had some tabs, but I realised real quick that the tabs were outdated, and what was written down wasn’t the music that was recorded in the guitar tracks. So I had to figure out every note: I did so by looping each note and finding them on the bass, then figuring out which phrase was tonal and could be summed up as chords, and which ones needed note-for-note support. In the end, I’m happy with the bass on the album. It was great that I didn’t have tabs; it forced me to use my ears and think “out of the box”.

Born from a chance reunion in a Montreal fast‑food joint after a King Diamond show, Conflux Collective emerged as a spontaneous spark between guitarist Chase Fraser (Continuum, ex‑Decrepit Birth, ex‑Animosity) and drummer Tommy McKinnon (Derelict, Akurion, ex‑Neuraxis, ex‑Augury). What began as two musicians rediscovering each other after years apart quickly transformed into a creative eruption. Within their first hour of jamming, a full song had taken shape; within six weeks, they had written and recorded their debut EP, The Inception (2016).

From the beginning, Conflux was never meant to be a traditional band. It was conceived as a true collective, a space where multiple voices, styles, and creative minds could collide. The project’s identity was built on the idea of bringing together diverse extreme vocalists and pushing progressive technical death metal into new emotional and sonic territory.

After an extended dormancy brought on by life’s unpredictability, McKinnon resurrected the project with renewed purpose. Armed with five unreleased tracks from Fraser, one from a former collaborator, and a determination to finally bring the album to life, he rebuilt Conflux Collective from the ground up. McKinnon composed additional material, rewrote entire songs, recorded all bass tracks by ear, and crafted lyrics drawn from deeply personal experiences, dark, cathartic, and unflinchingly honest.

To complete the vision, he assembled a powerhouse roster of vocalists whose performances became the beating heart of the record: Jesse Brint (Gross Misconduct), Mallika Sundaramurthy (Emasculator, ex‑Abnormality), Jeffrey Mac Dermott (The Monster Factory, Growlers Choir), Eric Burnet (Derelict, Samskaras), and Max (Derelict), who also contributed a blistering guitar solo.

Each vocalist brought their own identity, technique, and emotional weight, transforming the album into a multi‑dimensional journey.

The result is the band’s long‑awaited full‑length album, “In the Wake of Saturn” (2026), a progressive, brutal, melodic, and uncompromising exploration of loss, transformation, and inner strength. Musically, it bridges the raw ferocity of ’90s death metal with the precision and ambition of modern tech‑death. Lyrically, it channels personal upheaval, existential reflection, and the power of self‑reinvention.

Across eight tracks, listeners are pulled through blast‑driven chaos, atmospheric tension, crushing grooves, and climactic melodic peaks. The songs defy traditional structures, instead unfolding like chapters in a narrative—guided by the shifting voices of the collective. As vocalist Jesse Brint put it, “It’s a journey.”

Though Conflux Collective has no plans for live performances, the project stands as a testament to collaboration without boundaries. It is the convergence of past and present, chaos and craft, instinct and intention.

Conflux Collective is not just a band; it is a meeting point for extreme music’s most creative forces, united in the pursuit of something powerful, transformative, and unforgettable.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – January 15, 2026

Rockshots Records Signs Embrace Of Souls For New Concept Album “The Battle Of The Dead”

Rockshots Records is proud to announce its signing of Embrace Of Souls for the release of their new concept album “The Battle Of The Dead,” due out in 2026.

Founded by drummer and composer Michele Olmi, Embrace Of Souls has forged a solid identity within the Italian power metal scene by blending classic ’80s and ’90s heavy and power metal foundations with epic and symphonic influences. After the releases of “The Number Of Destiny” and “Forever Part Of Me”, the band reached a natural turning point, choosing to move forward with renewed focus, strengthened artistic vision, and fresh creative energy.

This new chapter is also marked by an updated line-up compared to previous albums. Giacomo Rossi, already involved in earlier recordings, now takes on a central role as lead vocalist, joined by Martina Mazzeo as soprano vocalist. Their combined vocal approach broadens the band’s expressive range, reinforcing the balance between driving power metal intensity and refined symphonic elegance that defines Embrace Of Souls’ current sound.

The journey continues with “Desolate Lands”, the upcoming single taken from the new concept album “The Battle Of The Dead“.

Pre-save “Desolate Lands”: https://lnk.to/7wfF6l

For fans of: Rhapsody Of Fire, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish.

BIOGRAPHY:

Embrace Of Souls is an Italian power metal band founded by drummer and composer Michele Olmi, conceived with the aim of bringing together talented musicians around a shared vision rooted in collaboration, brotherhood, and a deep passion for classic metal. Initially born as a studio project, the band took shape with the release of their debut album “The Number Of Destiny” in 2021, receiving positive feedback on an international level and notable acclaim in Japan.

Drawing inspiration from ’80s and ’90s heavy and power metal, as well as the epic and symphonic metal of the early 2000s, Embrace Of Souls developed a sound characterized by powerful riffs, epic atmospheres, and strong melodic sensibility. Over time, the project evolved into a full live band, allowing the group to further consolidate its artistic identity and deepen its expressive range.

In 2024, Embrace Of Souls returned with their second full-length album, “Forever Part Of Me,” marking a significant step forward in terms of maturity and songwriting. This phase also introduced important changes within the line-up, bringing renewed energy and a broader musical perspective to the band’s sound.

A key element of this evolution is the current vocal pairing. Giacomo Rossi, already involved in previous releases, now takes on a central role as lead vocalist while Martina Mazzeo, an accomplished soprano vocalist, adds a symphonic and operatic dimension to the band’s music. Together, their voices embody the duality that defines Embrace Of Souls: light and darkness, power and elegance, intensity and emotion.

Having shared the stage with renowned acts such as Domine, Vision Divine, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica and Rhapsody Of Fire, Embrace Of Souls continue to refine their identity while looking toward the future. The band is now working on new material, further developing their epic and narrative-driven approach with the goal of solidifying their presence on the international power metal scene.

=======================================

Last year’s 2025 WMBU national finals were held on June 21st at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, where Southern California and Arizona-based band MOURNING HIGH emerged as the seventh champion selected to represent the United States at the prestigious international showdown, Wacken Open Air, that took place from July 30th to August 2nd in Wacken, Germany, where over 185,000 attendees from around the world gathered.

Mourning High, crowned the West Coast Winner, competed alongside five other standout American bands: PRIME PROPHECY (New Jersey), WHAT’S WRONG (Pacific Northwest), PONTIFEX (Florida), FIREHAZE (East Coast), and BROKEN TIME (Texas). A panel of seasoned industry professionals, including Jeff Buttermark (FM Management), Shawn Quinn (Napalm Records/FM Management), and Rob Caggiano (formerly of Anthrax and Volbeat), ultimately selected Mourning High as the top U.S. act to perform at the International Wacken Battle.

For the last seven years of battles (2017-2019, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), Wacken Metal Battle USA has hosted battles across the country to send one independent metal band to perform at the world’s largest metal festival, Wacken Open Air in Wacken, Germany. 2019 saw the festival celebrate its 30th anniversary, but due to COVID, the 2020 and 2021 editions were both canceled. As the metal community regains its strength, Wacken Open Air 2026 will be the 35th edition of the festival and will be held from July 29th to August 1st. The 2026 event is already sold out with a line-up that includes Def Leppard, Lamb Of God, In Flames, Powerwolf, Emperor, Sepultura, and Running Wild, among others. Details here.

Wacken Metal Battle USA is part of an international competition that sees bands from across the country battle each other for the chance to win their spot among over 55 other countries’ champions, and represent the USA in an international battle of the bands at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival: Wacken Open Air. The battles have been hosted at the festival for over a decade and give independent bands the opportunity to showcase their talents to an international audience, along with the chance to win multiple prizes.

How it works:
Participating cities will host qualifying rounds plus a city final organized by a local city concert promoter, where one band will move forward to the American national final (date and city to be determined). The winner of the national final will advance to perform at Wacken Open Air 2026 and compete against the winners of international bands from around the globe in a major international battle. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry representatives.
