Boston’s PISTACIA Channel The Emo Days Of Old With New Metalcore Track “It Was The Cat”

New EP “Edgy” Out October 2022

Boston’s Pistacia is bringing forth a new brand of metalcore with their debut EP “Edgy”. Through personal and poignant lyrics they confront relatable issues set to emotional and powerful music. So far, they have released a handful of singles, and the next one up is “It Was The Cat”, focusing on self-harm. Making music for people who are scared and voiceless is their passion and they are not afraid to get specific about what happens in the mind of the mentally ill. On this single, they offer hope and understanding and a flashback to the days when people used the explanation that “the cat did it” in reference to marks on their arms. The band explains the creation of the single:

“The single began almost accidentally; Ben and Théo were in Florida on tour with their former band, exhausted from the road and performance, and aching to write some new music that would reflect the artistic changes they’d undergone as a result. Ben cracked away at that which he does best: writing filthy hardcore riffs and Théo took initiative to make as poppy a chorus arrangement as possible. Years later, the track was revived and Vic worked her magic, pouring her anguish and rage into finely tuned stanzas that packed punch. They entered a Berklee rehearsal room with sketches, with the makings of a metal banger, and left with the instantiation of their ardor”.

Pistacia formed when vocalist Vic Gregg desired to be on stage instead of behind the merch booth. Fueled by passion and a desire to realize her high school dreams, she learned how to scream and put the lineup together with her classmates. They started as a Pierce the Veil ensemble but later began writing originals. To date, they have released five singles, and are gearing up to release their EP in the fall. They promise that each of the tracks on it are full-fledged bangers that will provoke and challenge the listener.

“It Was The Cat” is heavy in both lyrics and music and boasts sick breakdowns and the most 2007 chorus since MySpace reigned the internet. It’s catchy and will have you dancing regardless of the dark imagery. It is recommended for fans of Pierce the Veil, Slipknot, and Bring Me the Horizon.

About: In late 2019, Vic Gregg founded Gen-Z, an emo-throwback metalcore outfit. Members Ron Bernhaut, Theo Chaouat, Ben Sonsire-Cummings, and Thomson Estabrook complete the aesthetic onslaught that comprises Pistacia’s live show—in the scene’s dearth of energetic performance, the band found their niche, bringing blistering riffs to tight compact venues with pure animus and palpable vitriol. They have a nostalgia-borne affinity for all things emo and maintain a reckless proclivity for gothic imagery and provocative allure. With a marriage between heavy breakdowns, catchy choruses, and pathos-driven lyrics, Pistacia is that edgy, rebellious act you’ve been craving.

EPK – Pistacia – Edgy (2022)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“Our upcoming EP “Edgy” is about different symptoms/aspects of mental illness. The lead single ‘It Was The Cat’ is about self-harm, then the other tracks are about dissociating, and social anxiety. We think fans are going to love our single ‘It Was The Cat’ as our TikTok fans love what snippets they’ve heard so far. Our sound brings elements from 2007-2010 metalcore and we make music for people who miss that amazing era of music. That being said we have modern breakdowns that make you want to mosh.” – Pistacia

========================================

The EP as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

The upcoming EP is about different symptoms/aspects of mental illness. This single is about self-harm, then we have one about dissociating and social anxiety.

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained by Vic Gregg – Vocals:

1. It was the Cat is about self-harm and the person or thing that leads you to it most. Whether it is an abuser or an event sometimes things can weigh too heavy on us and we cope in unhealthy ways. Back in the day, when kids has marks on their arms and were asked about it, they would blame their cat. “The cat did it” or “it was the cat.” The cat is that thing or that person that makes life so unbearable you want to take it out on yourself. For me, the cat is a person who I am supposed to love. They took advantage of me all my life and I finally got out and am doing much better. This song has a sick breakdown and the most 2007 chorus since MySpace reigned the internet. It’s catchy and will have you dancing regardless of the dark imagery.

2. I wrote N. Hale about dissociation. Whenever I get over-stressed or put in an uncomfortable situation, I dissociate. It’s never on purpose as a matter of fact I try hard not to. However, it’s still hard to fight. So when that happens I have non-thoughts and my head is just static and I can hear my pulse and that is it. In the track, we have samples of both which perfectly portrays what goes on in my mind when that happens. Ron and I wrote the main riffs for this song together and Ben spiced it up to make it what it is now.

3. Fake a Smile is about social anxiety. I have a hard time making friends and putting myself out there to the world. TikTok has helped me a bit get comfortable speaking, but I still get so insecure whenever I try to talk to someone new. My fear is that I’ll say something dumb and or uninteresting. So I wrote Fake a Smile. The music was all Theo. He wrote this song a few years ago and he pulled it up one day and I fell in love with it. I started to workshop a melody for the chorus and wrote up some lyrics and the song was born. Very nostalgic sound similar to It Was the Cat and brings you back to studded belts and neon monster tees.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS:

1.  I write about my own life a lot and my daily struggles living with mental illness. I go into depth about each aspect of my diagnosis and there will most likely be a song for each symptom. Living like this is nearly impossible but I want people to know they are not alone. I want to know I am not alone.

2.  The band got together in an interesting way. We all went to the same school and were in an ensemble together. The way our school works is you can take a class that is basically a cover band for a grade. We were in a Pierce the Veil ensemble together and since that class I wanted to keep playing with them all. So I asked them to join me in Pistacia.

3. We played a major music festival with little music out as a band. We played Inkcarceration in 2021 which was especially huge because that festival was Mudvayne’s first show in 10 years. The crowd was insane and to be honest, we crushed that performance. Since then we have been building a fanbase on TikTok.

In late 2019, Vic Gregg founded Gen-Z, an emo-throwback metalcore outfit. New Album “Mythos” Out Sept 30th

“Mythos” is the second release from Canada’s Hunting Giants following their 2018 EP “Skyward Eyes”. They have upped the ante with this new record, offering bigger riffs, wilder stories, and more layers to entangle listeners. The primary themes in their next single “Too Big To Kill” are domination and avarice, as told through the eyes of a hunter.

The track immediately starts with a riff that brings to mind the thrill of the hunt which is encapsulated by the lyrical repetition of ‘Row’ as our anti-hero cuts through the waves, hot on the trail of his next quarry. As the instruments are hushed, the lyrics speak from the perspective of a man who desires only domination and finds satisfaction in ending the lives of those he hunts. The band continues:

“One of the major singles on the Mythos album, Too Big To Kill is a non-stop adventure with the highs and lows of the raging rapids. This unending momentum builds throughout the song revealing how remorseless yet effective he is at killing until we arrive at the bridge, where the tables are turned and he finds himself fleeing from the beast which he sought to trap. This song is an exploration of those who love violence and the inevitable bloody end which they attract towards themselves.”

For Hunting Giants, their lyrics come from within. They can be inspired by pieces of literature, emotion derived from lived experiences, or ideas which take root within the mind and must be expressed through song. They encapsulate emotion while being entertaining and thought-provoking, giving the lister yet another layer to focus on amidst the riffs and melodies.

“Mythos” is a unique album expressed with a great diversity of energetic auditory textures. Each song hits hard with novel approaches and fresh ideas that will induce a comforting nostalgia in modern rock fans looking for something new and awesome.

Energetic, theatrical, and groovy, Hunting Giants is recommended for fans of Audioslave, Muse, and Tool.

The lyric video “Too Big To Kill” can be seen and heard via its premiere on AllAboutTheRock HERE.

The album “Mythos” is out on September 30, 2022.

Delve Into The Expansiveness Of The Universe With The Spacey Single “Home” From Colorado’s OBSIDIAN SKIES

Debut EP “Saturnian” Out October 2022

Mixed and Mastered by Tom MacLean (ex-Haken, Athemon, Brutta)

While based in Colorado, USA, Obsidian Skies creates music in the sci-fi realm, transporting listeners to grandiose worlds set to epic progressive melodic death metal. The duo of Logan Dougherty (guitars/piano/orchestration) and Tim Watervoort (guitars/basses/vocals) use their backgrounds in physics, astrophysics, composition, and linguistics to elevate the themes, structure, and performance of their music. After working steadily over the past couple of years, they are thrilled to announce their spacey debut EP “Saturnian” (mixed and mastered by Tom MacLean (ex-Haken, Athemon, Brutta)) and the first single “Home”.

“Home” is less of a story, but more of one man’s lament for his former home and the exploration of his emotions. He goes through cycles of culture shock and a longing for a world that is no more. Eventually, he comes to terms with his situation and sees the potential in his new home. Starting with an acoustic guitar, “Home” is lighter than the other tracks on the EP, much of this song feels like one that could be sung around a campfire, thinking of days gone by. When the distorted guitars enter, they serve more to provide foundation than a true featured part to keep with the aesthetic. Harsh vocals are present in this song, but to a much smaller degree than the other two. Harmonically, this song features jazzy major 7th chords to give it a warmer feel. The band comments on the track:

“When we first came up with the concept of this song, we knew we wanted a more intimate, acoustic piece, but we were honestly afraid that it would not turn out at all how we envisioned. When we began writing it, we had two disjointed riffs that we knew we wanted in the song but no real way of transitioning between them. Since the song is so vocally driven, it was difficult to get a grasp of what it would sound like before it was recorded. Hearing the first playthrough of it after recording (but before mixing) was a sigh of relief for both of us as we had actually managed to pull it together. This song definitely “fell into place” more than the other two did.”

The EP follows the story of humankind abandoning Earth for Saturn’s moon Titan. The emotional and physical struggles of leaving our home planet are explored through both the music and the lyrics. Obsidian Skies hopes to take the listener through this journey in a concept album, but they believe the songs are capable of standing on their own as well.

Recommended for fans of anything sci-fi, especially those who enjoy the music of Amon Amarth, Insomnium, and Opeth, the single “Home” can be heard via its premiere in MetalInsider HERE.

The EP “Saturnian” is being released on October 14, 2022.

Canada’s Greber is the no-holds-barred, to-the-point hardcore grind band that you have been waiting for. For those uninitiated, they are a ferocious duo that keeps it on the low end, saturated with gritty vocals and a no-bullshit attitude.

Veterans in the scene, Greber’s discography spans 13 years and contains four full lengths and seven splits, they say that their music comes from a place of rationality, it’s something real and visceral, not a sugar-coated illusion. The main message they try to get across with this album is that life isn’t meant to get better, it just is. They continue to explain:

“At the risk of delving too deeply into Deepak Chopra’s tinged pontification, that was really the starting point for most of the material. Hopelessness, fear, age catching up to you, uncertainty, failure. You know, the happy-go-lucky crap that we need to get out somehow, and when we do, we still manage to feel pretty much the same. Like a Steinbeck novel that has been looped for eons with some tasteless humour mixed into it all.”

According to the duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) “Fright Without” is a handleless staircase that disorients as much as it overwhelms. It is their testament to suffering and hope, balance and woe, heaven and here. They hope that the listener finds it to be as much of an escape as they do a confrontation.

The album is ten succinct songs composed and executed mostly by Cargas and Bourgon. They are joined on a few of the tracks by musicians providing noise, vocals, and guitars. It was recorded by Sean Pearson at Boxcar Studios in Hamilton, Ontario; it was mixed by Kurt Ballou at Godcity in Salem, Massachusetts; mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege in Portland, Oregon, and the artwork was done by Marcos Guinoza.

Harsh and full of contemplative energy, Greber is recommended for fans of Primitive Man, Black Sheep Wall and Man is the Bastard.

“Fright Without” is streaming now on Decibel Magazine HERE.

The whole album is ready for consumption on September 9, 2022 and will be available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

0 Rockshots Records – VICTORIA K Shares Music Video “Tower” Off New Album “Kore” Out October 2022

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 8, 2022

Rockshots Records – VICTORIA K Shares Music Video “Tower” Off New Album “Kore” Out October 2022

Australia’s Victoria K is sharing the next single “Tower” from the forthcoming sophomore album “Kore” set for release this coming October via Rockshots Records to follow the highly praised 2020 debut album “Essentia”.

Being unveiled with a music video, “Tower” is the longest song on the album. Clocking in at over seven minutes, the band got the inspiration for this track from the part of the hymn where Kore’s mother orders the people of the world to build a tower in her honour. The band explains further:

“This idea and concept sparked a lot of ideas, taking inspiration from events and questions that we face in our current society. Questions such as the existence of a divine power, and why we praise higher powers both spiritually speaking and in our physical world. It also raises ideas about our current social regimes, like capitalism, as well as the toxicity of materialist and consumerist cultures. Aspects of this song touch upon the exploitation of the middle and lower class. This is a topic that we wanted to bring forward, as musicians, artists, and writers as we feel it is relevant and important. This song also takes a lot of inspiration from ethnic sounds. The chanting is sung in ancient Greek, meant to imitate marching and worship, this ties into the message that the song is trying to convey.”

Music Video – Tower – https://youtu.be/Ea4fKzJf2Vo

Digital – https://bfan.link/tower-1

Offering up progressive symphonic sound, “Kore” was specifically written to provide a full orchestral experience that drives people through a sonic journey of growth and grandeur.

“We wanted to take a new approach with this record and to grow our sound and bring something new to Victoria K. Incorporating sounds from our vocalist’s ethnic culture and heritage is something we are so extremely proud of! A concept album is something we really wanted to explore, and we are so excited to bring you this ancient story and create a sonic experience and journey for all our listeners. We cannot wait to share this new stage of Victoria K!”

“Kore” explores modern-day issues through the Homeric Hymn to Demeter (the story of Persephone). Victoria K conceptualized the idea for the album with her producer Lee Bradshaw and then spent many months researching and analyzing the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, even meeting with experts of the Homeric Hymns from Greece. The story was then broken up into its different parts where Victoria Knight wrote the lyrics and developed the melodies for each section of the tale, exploring the myth from a modern perspective.

The tracks were written specifically to encapsulate the various sections of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter and tell the story chronologically through each song and the music grows in intensity throughout the record capturing the emotional state of Persephone and other characters as the story progresses.

The various instruments on “Kore” were then written by Victoria around the lyrics and further enhanced and developed through the production process. Lee Bradshaw then finalized the songs by writing orchestral scores for each song, which were recorded live in Europe, before the final mixing and mastering.

Recommended for fans of Lacuna Coil, Rammstein, Within Temptation, Spirit Box, and Delain, Victoria K‘s new album “Kore” is due out October 14, 2022 from Rockshots Records.

As a result of being invited to support the Swiss Folk Metal giants Eluveitie Victoria K formed the current band who have adopted the name Victoria K. On the 18th of May, 2019, Victoria K played the main support for Eluveitie at their Melbourne show, and produced a performance that had the crowd chanting for an encore.

Victoria K signed to Rockshots Records (Italy) in early 2020 and released their debut album ‘Essentia’ on the 24th of April, 2020. Essentia has received global media attention and the band has been featured in Legacy Magazine (Germany) and Heavy Magazine (Australia) amongst many others.

Essentia debuted at #17 on the Australian iTunes Rock & Metal Charts with the four Music Videos (Lacuna, Forsaken, The Haunting and Matrix) receiving over 230,000 YouTube views.

Victoria K’s ‘Essentia’ won Album of the Year in the Femmetal Awards 2020 and was a finalist in the Best Band and Best Music Video categories and Victoria Knight was a finalist in the Best Operatic Vocals category.

Victoria was also nominated as ‘Best Vocalist’ in the Metalgoddesses.com awards named amongst the best vocalists of the genre including Floor Jansen, Elize Ryde, Fabienne Erni and Charlotte Wessels. Victoria K was also nominated in the metalgoddesses.com awards for Song of the Year (Matrix) and Album of the Year (Essentia).

Anders Sandvall of Metal-rules.com identified Essentia as “one of the strongest debut albums this year” placing the album at #2 on his Best Albums of 2020 and also cited Victoria K as the ‘Best New Band.’

Due to the global pandemic Victoria K was unable to tour so in June, 2020 they played a worldwide Live Stream Show from the studio via Rockshots Twitch Channel and have since released a DVD of the event.

In November 2021, Victoria K commenced their 9 show Australian Tour with shows in Melbourne, Wollongong, Newcastle, Sydney (sold out), Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Whyalla (sold out) and Broken Hill. Due to Covid the tour was run over three legs with the second in March 2022 and the third leg in April, 2022.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 7, 2022

Venture To BC’s Okanagan For ARMSTRONG METALFEST 2023 Being Held July 14-15

Watch the official video recap of AMF 2019 here.
(video created by Mayne Brand Productions)

AMF Spotify Playlist 2022 Lineup here.

After their most successful event to date in 2022, which saw the festival’s highest attendance on record along with marking the extreme music festival’s return after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic, Armstrong MetalFest is proud to announce their 2023 edition will be held on July 14th and 15th at the Hassen Arena in Armstrong, BC.

Hosted in British Columbia’s Okanagan valley with the Canadian Rockies as a specular backdrop, the 2022 gathering of metalheads witnessed Spokane, WA deathcore titans ENTERPRISE EARTH headline the festival along with Vancouver’s cult-loved pyro maniacs ZIMMERS HOLE and progressive death kings NECK of THE WOODS. AMF also presented a very special performance from Kelowna’s OMNIA NIHIL (formerly Apollyon) in memory of beloved vocalist Matt Depper who suddenly passed away this past January. A total of 28 bands from across Western Canada and the USA fueled the moshpit for much-needed music therapy.

Tickets for AMF 2023 and camping along with the lineup will be announced at a later date.

Festival co-organizers Jesse Valtsar adds:

“Mark it down on the calendar, we have huge plans to make 2023 the biggest event to date! With the success of 2022, we are going to continue the momentum right into next year! We are planning out our headliners and dreaming up new ways to make Metalfest the best!”

Since 2009 (minus pause years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest has not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands but brought in well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year up to 700 metalheads from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun they spend three days camping, taking in over 30 bands, participating in wrestling events, and scavenger hunts and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C., but gives bands opportunities to play different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.

Multi-Instrumentalist MATT MILLER Unleashes Shred Finesse Video “The Obscurantist”

New Album “Monument of Velocity” Out Now!

Akademia-Award-winning producer, engineer, and songwriter Matt Miller side-steps these industry achievements to embark on something deeply introspective and personal; a transcendent, reactionary and vile personage embodying soaring progressive melodies and captivating crushing rhythms which engulf the listener in black clouds of desperation and shimmering hope. Through his solo project, he has released four cover albums and three original albums the most recent of which is “Monument of Velocity”, which came out this past July. Miller is now presenting a music video for the track “The Obscurantist”, which is an intricate story full of suspense, twists, and turns. He comments on the album:

“With Monument of Velocity, I set out to push my creative limits by not relying on any preconceived notions and let each song unfold as its own entity. Which in turn actually created a stronger continuity between the tracks. By writing the majority of the album without a guitar in hand I was able to think outside the box and come up with more interesting melodies and more dynamic rhythms. This process allowed me to achieve a greater level of melodicism and generate a stronger emotional response.”

Miller started his solo project during the Covid lockdown as he wanted to release all the music he had written and wasn’t being played in the projects he was currently in. With “Monument of Velocity” he knew he wanted to make another instrumental album but also wanted to create something that pushed musical limits and was still fun to listen to. Along with the most recent release he has released a cover album this year and plans on releasing a tech death album with his new project Chasm of Discord and a re-recording of my first instrumental EP “MMXVII”.

A wide variety of influences can be heard throughout Matt Miller’s music, and it is recommended for fans of Necrophagist, Obscura, and Dragon Force.

The video for “The Obscurantist” can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/5PJQpqLZSz4

“Monument of Velocity” was released on July 19, 2022 via Blood Blast Distribution (powered by Nuclear Blast and Believe Digital) and available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music.

About:
Akademia-Award-winning producer, engineer, and songwriter MATT MILLER side-steps these industry achievements to embark on something deeply introspective and personal; a transcendent, reactionary and vile personage embodying soaring progressive melodies and captivating crushing rhythms which engulf the listener in black clouds of desperation and shimmering hope.

Drawing upon the gut-wrenching timed-precision of European death metal stalwarts NECROPHAGIST and SPAWN OF POSSESSION, MATT MILLER progressively blends this approach with deep synthetic and symphonic atmospheres like that of DEVIN TOWNSEND, often arriving at surprisingly emotive and heart-clenching metallic passages like that of RIVERS OF NIHIL.

Calling upon other single-member death metal projects such as PUTRID PILE or INSIDIOUS DECREPANCY, the live performance can best be described as a reclaiming and repainting of the earth by a relentlessly sweeping and deranged berzerker appealing to the vast minions of the extreme music. The combination of elements within MATT MILLER distills the traditions of the international metal realm, the progressive atmospheres of modernity, and reactions to a vile world into a single unrelenting persona of despair and vengeance.

MATT MILLER’s first self-produced instrumental EP came in 2017, drawing on influences from classic metal bands such as MEGADETH and IRON MAIDEN to shredders like YNGWIE MALMSTEEN and PAUL GILBERT, while combining a technical death metal approach to create a maximum intensity music with a frenetic and frantic feel and ferocious atmosphere. Since then, and a few releases into this brief career, MATT MILLER boasts 12,000 consistent monthly listeners on Spotify before hitting the international touring circuit. This was garnered from his 2017 EP, the 2021 self-released ‘Decrepit Shed’ LP, the ‘Reekomposer/Decomposer’ covers double LP, as well as the ‘8E’s’ 1980’s themed covers LP.

In 2022 Matt released the formidable original instrumental LP Monument of Velocity on Blood Blast Distribution. Matt also toured supporting Rings of Saturn on the CYBER SHRED TOUR 2022. 29 shows encompassing the continental United States. Matt has released the cover LP Only What the Light Allows through Blood Blast Distribution as well.

Matt Miller hails from the rain soaked northern Oregon Coast; influenced by the natural foreboding environment. Moving into the present, MATT MILLER has joined up with Extreme Management Group to spread a singularly relentless auditory mind-bend.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – September 7, 2022

Rockshots Records Signs Tolkien Inspired RuinThrone For New Album “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda”

Rockshots Records announce their signing of Italian fantasy power metallers RuinThrone for the release of their new J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired album “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” due out on (insert release date) to follow their debut album “Urban Ubris” and EP “Leaden Field”.

Set to create an interesting narrative world, RuinThrone composes very captivating musical sections that are supported by complex and progressive structures. The band explains:

“The album itself has been composed of stories inspired by Tolkien’s poems, his “Legendarium”. We hope the concepts we wrote can be “messengers” of reflection for our listeners, turning in a better awareness of their daily life. We focused on an alternative point of view of some stories written by Tolkien. We thought it would have been interesting to explore the mind of the main villains: Morgoth, the Witch-king, and Gothmog. The main concept is to develop a poem with no need for heroes. It’s a world populated by humanized characters creating a correspondence with the listener’s life.”

“The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” is mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Orlando (sound tech for Rhapsody of Fire) at the Other Sound Studios.

Singles, artwork, and track listing for “The Unconscious Mind Of Arda” will be revealed at future dates.

“We want the listener to be “lured” by the darkness and to become as a whole with it.”

The album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained:

Monument of Velocity takes you on a journey and makes a bold statement. I like to think of the songs on the album as scenes from a movie.

Track by track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY) explained:

Track 1  – The Fissure sounds mysterious and builds suspense.

Track 2 – Abominable Sands starts off like a race across a vast open space.

Track 3 – The Obscurantist is a story that is full of suspense, twists, and turns.

Track 4 – Monument of Velocity is like a sorcerer casting a spell. Seamlessly changing form and shape.

Track 5 – Coral Sword is a song that was written based upon the creation myth of the islands of Japan.

Track 6 – Sacred Geometry is constantly building up to a new dynamic every time the music changes

Track 7 – Acheron is a joyous expression that slowly turns into something much more prolific.

Track 8 – Human Race Against Time starts off with extremely high tension and represents life passing before your

Fun Facts / Story Angles:

1. Most of Monument of Velocity was written without a guitar. After the initial riffs were recorded, the rest of the song was written during the notation process.

2. Monument of Velocity initially had a different title and was not going to be a Matt Miller release.

3. Some of the songs were written with vocals in mind and were not going to be instrumental.

4. Monument of Velocity had been recorded for a year before its release.

5. Monument of Velocity was recorded at the same time as the album Only What the Light Allows

Funny Stories:
During the CYBER SHRED TOUR I was telling everyone how lonely I was on stage each night. Performing on a national tour is tough but by yourself is a feat unto itself. Especially having to play with such awesome bands. At the last show in Austin TX at Come and Take it Live I noticed everyone was acting a little differently when I was interacting with them throughout the day and I couldn’t figure out why. As I was onstage letting my intro sample play I noticed everyone standing behind the stage. I gave them the middle finger and thought to myself “alright it’s time to bring it” right as the sample ended everyone from the tour ran onstage and helped me yell my battle cry “It’s Miller Time!” Which was something I adopted at the behest of the Voraath guys. It was ultimately a great idea. As I went into the first song I got a little emotional and I tried not to show it but that act of kindness and camaraderie hit me right in the feels and that is a tough spot when you’re trying to go into full shred mode. Unbeknownst to me the other guys on the tour had been planning this and they executed their plan perfectly.

A cool story from the CYBER SHRED TOUR involved joining Rings of Saturn onstage and performing a solo during Faces Imploding. After one of the shows Lucas had mentioned to me that he really liked my set and they wanted to have me join them onstage and play. I talked to Joel and we got the details hammered out. I spent the 4th of July in my motel room trying to write something that would complement the song and add something to it. At the last show in

Austin TX I joined them onstage and threw down a completely improvised solo and it sounded awesome. I nailed my exit queue and walked off the stage feeling great about getting to jam with these ridiculously awesome musicians and great people.

When the CYBER SHRED TOUR rolled into Indianapolis it was hot. Actually to say it was hot is a complete understatement. The venue seemed like they were unprepared. The AC was broken and there was difficulty with providing running water. Everyone was drinking any sort of liquid they could find. There we all were sitting in this venue with 1 industrial fan and 4 ceiling fans. As the time to open the doors drew near the P.A. started having problems. Everyone was setup and ready to go onstage. As the venue troubleshot the P.A. I was lucky enough to jam with Josh from Voraath, Jake from Distinguisher, and Dominic from Extortionist. Even Brian the Tour Manager jumped behind the kit. We played everything from improv black and death metal to Pantera, Slayer, and Metallica covers
