Recently awarded this year’s Edmonton Music Prize for their 2014 release‘City of Gold’, Canadian new wave metallers STRIKER are gearing up for the release of their new album ‘Stand In The Fire’ via their own Record Breaking Records label on February 5, 2016. The band’s next single ‘Out For Blood’ is now streaming for its Canadian premiere on Metal Nation Radio.

Guitarist Tim Brown comments on the track:

“Out for Blood is our little slice of 80’s cop-drama saxophone filled metal. We wanted to go completely over the top, stuff it full of solos and crazy shred, and just go nuts on every aspect on the song. Thrash metal Miami Vice!”

‘Stand In The Fire’ is STRIKER‘s most uncompromising record to date. A record packed with incredible riffs and colossal anthems, all laced together with epic harmonies. Inspired by legendary bands like Iron Maiden, Striker wears their hearts firmly on their battle jackets, soaking up the power and influence of classic rock and metal.

The band; Dan Clearly (vocals) Tim Brown (lead/rhythm guitars) William Wallace (bass) Adam Brown (drums) recorded the album themselves with the help of Randy Black (who filled in on drums while Adam was away…) and mixing genius Frederik Nordstrom (Bring Me The Horizon, In Flames, Opeth) giving them not only the time and space needed but the freedom to set up the release direct to fans worldwide.

STRIKER formed in Edmonton, Canada in 2007 and they were signed to German label Iron Kodex off the strength of their first demo. They made two albums with the label and recorded 2nd album Armed To The Teeth with acclaimed producer Michael Wagener (Ozzy, Skid Row, Metallica). They played shows with Metallica in Canada and hit the road for what eventually became a full world tour with shows across Europe and Japan. About:

Seattle’s Rhine are seamlessly connecting German thrash metal with Swedish death metal much like their namesake, the Rhine River. The founder of the group Gabriel Tachell named it such for its simplicity and as a metaphor for fluidity and change. The band started in 2011 with the release of their first album ‘Duality’ which was at first a solo effort by Tachell (guitar and vocals) and eventually led to a full band. He is now joined by Alex Smolin on guitar (ex-Metameric), James Porter on bass (Ideofone), and Carlos Delgado (Inferion, ex-Death Crowned King) to collaborate on this project.

Rhine are primarily producing epic, progressive songs and yet others flow to the mouth of the river where there is a culmination of black, death, and thrash metal, occasionally tinged with classical, folk and other styles. The band has a certain frantic unpredictability in terms of songwriting and structure while the moody vocals gently ride over the extreme precision of the guitar, drum, and bass. The four-piece are experimental in their intentions, yet melodically and rhythmically catchy with the delivery. Tachell is the primary inspiration for the current material, referencing experiences in his life from emotional turmoil, health issues, fairy tales, to dreams of finding corpses floating in a swamp. Their interesting themes and energetic music has been evolving into a unique and distinctive sound.

Live, Rhine is an unbridled horse that emotes a nervous uncertainty of what is next compositionally and emotionally. The band bases their performance on the backbone of the band — guitar, vocals, bass, and drums, and they definitely don’t shy away from the challenges of playing music like this live without the help of backing tracks. Their latest release ‘An Outsider’ is slated for February 5, 2016 and while it may not be heavier than the previous release, it is certainly more advanced in terms of playing, songwriting, vocal performance and production. It includes tracks featuring german lyrics, completely improvised solos and an overall human-ness that is often lost amongst other high level metal productions in this age of quantizing and autotuning. Rhine are one band that has grown into a machine that is not to be missed.

BUFFALO THEORY MTL is a band of beer chugging, heavy riffing fans for the fans. Attributing their name to a scene from the pop culture 80’s TV show CHEERS (Cliff Claven explains the Buffalo theory of beer to his buddy Norm (explanation here.)) and the MTL abbreviation representing their pride for their hometown of Montreal, these seasoned veterans from the Canadian and Brazilian metal scenes are always ready to set the stage ablaze with their stoner / thrash infused metal for beer lovers around the world.

Comprised of members from legendary Quebec bands Ghoulunatics, Les Ékorchés, Arseniq 33 and currently active Vantablack Warship along with vocalist Anton Parr’s experience in thrash bands in Brazil. BUFFALO THEORY MTL’s passion for metal is truly in the blood of this quintet whose past experiences are a combined amount of over 1300 shows, 15 studio albums along with sharing the stage with bands such as Korn, Marilyn Manson, Testament and Suicidal Tendencies.

The band’s first EP ‘Live In Studio’ was released in 2010 and was later followed by their debut full length 2012’s ‘Heavy Ride’ released via Galy Records, which was then followed by their 2014 EP “Murder Trilogy’.

Now in 2016, the band returns with their third EP ‘Skeptic Knight’ set for release on February 26th via Stand Productions.

“We think ‘Skeptic Knight’ is our best material to date and it’s damn heavy as usual. It has a different sounding production that we like a lot. We completed 5 songs for the release. There were lots of riffs just waiting to be completed and it was hard to choose which ones to release first as we are already prepared to unleash another EP by next year to follow it. We always prefer to gather a few good songs and go into the studio being ready to release something new more often, rather than waiting too long for a LP type of setup with 10+ songs.” comments bassist Gary Lyons.

Choosing their artwork once again to be done by Polish graphic designer Darek Kocurek whom designed 2012’s Heavy Ride, BUFFALO THEORY MTL are looking to take their fans to another fantasy world.

“Four of the new songs on ‘Skeptic Knight’ speak about the coexistence of parallel worlds – material and spiritual – and how different individuals go through the trials of life. The exception is Conspiracy in Paranoland, which is a clear reference to how quick some of our idols vanished at a very young age. Victims of the extreme excesses of the rockstar way of life, fueled by ruthless manipulators.” says vocalist Anton Parr.

Musically in this EP each track has its own eclectic flavour / twist, which will appeal highly to fans of Down, COC, Queens of the Stone Age and Black Sabbath. As you listen to their first single ‘Punishment’, you will hear BUFFALO THEORY MTL forge their heavy, energetic metal that’s easy to relate live to the mosh pit.

“We are at our best live. That’s why we do this and the interaction with the crowd plays a big part in our performance. We are a very energetic band that loves what we do and it shows on stage. EP Track by track:

Conspiracy in Paranoland – the particularity about this song is that it was written at the time of our demo CD, in 2010. It was recorded then but we didn’t have time to record the vocals. Therefore, we’ve been playing it live once in a while for the last 5 years (it was also part of the setlist on our 1^stshow) and finally got to record a proper version of it! Conspiracy in Paranoland is a 100% pure “vintage BTMTL”!
Punishment – is the song that has that “Stoner Rock meets Thrash Metal” type of vibe. It will hit your brain as an out of control train and probably be stuck there for a while… it really looks like punishment!
Get On It – well defined by our drummer Brian as a “sing-along live song”, so… get on it mofos!
Skeptic Knight – the song starts with a slow and heavy intro (like a heavy war tank trying to climb up a hill), before going back to BTMTL style vicious riffs and sticky choruses.
Psychic Enclosure – Pat always starts the first riff after stomping his foot for a couple of seconds, so I think this is the song that will make you stomp your feet and bang your head, while trying to impersonate the main character and fighting to get out of a frightening psychic enclosure.
