Rhine is a progressive death metal band from Seattle. And indeed this one is for the true metalheads among the DPRP readers….An Outsider is overall a good album for the readers that enjoy heavy/death metal, especially the ones who like Opeth. Rhine also plays mellow music but you really have to like the very heavy stuff to be able to live with the grunting.
Rhine’s latest full-length release, An Outsider, opens with seriously ominous sounds that will intentionally bend your mind in preparation for its impending sonic doom. The Seattle-based band has a unique brand of melodic tech metal that skillfully blends soft and operatic singing with beastly metal growls that change without notice. Songs take sharp unexpected turns at any given time, leaving the listener constantly guessing; there is absolutely nothing predictable on this release, giving it mysterious appeal.
Rhine deliver a perfect balance of light/dark hues and stern/ beautiful textures…I loved An Outsider and look forward to hearing more from the band
The sound is completely original and I recommend ‘An Outsider’ to anyone who is craving something new, fresh and original. The term ‘progressive’ gets thrown around a lot to describe bands that don’t fit into any other sub-genre, but Rhine have demonstrated what true progressive metal should sound like.
