“Planet of the Goats Tour” w/ FALL OF EARTH

New Album “Capricorn Rising” Out July 12th, 2024 via Exitus Strategem Records

“It’s really strong. GREAT musicians, great production, as well as a very progressive aspect without losing the darkness.” – Kelly Schaefer, Atheist

Vancouver, Canada’s Thirteen Goats are proud to release their second album—the extreme metal rock opera “Capricorn Rising”. It tells the story of their mascot, Shepherd: a goat-skull-wearing Antichrist who raises an army of animals to liberate the earth from humanity’s constant wars and greed. This high-concept narrative is delivered with Thirteen Goats‘ signature blend of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They comment on the album:

“We think fans are going to get everything they loved about our first record, only more of it—and more focused. We’re exploring similar themes on this release, but we’ve connected them by weaving a cohesive story throughout these nine tracks that gives more context to the different musical and tonal shifts. And just like on the last record, we haven’t been afraid to break the rules.”

Each song on the album is part of a broader narrative that explores themes of disillusionment, radicalization, and rebellion as Shepherd and his 12 demon goats wage their crusade. Thirteen Goats delivers a unique blend of death and thrash metal, combined with a storytelling approach that takes listeners on a journey through the darkest aspects of both human and animal nature.

Listeners can expect furious riffage, ambitious song structures, and even occasional female guest vocals (courtesy of guest artist Carly Ellen Jones). What they shouldn’t expect is a record that plays it safe or falls neatly into one specific subgenre. Thirteen Goats is recommended for fans of Lamb of God, Carcass, and Mastodon.

Due out on July 12, 2024, “Capricorn Rising” is available from Exitus Stratagem Records for album pre-order at https://www.exsrmusic.com/store/p/pre-sale-thirteen-goats-capricorn-rising

“What makes this turbocharged song (Sign of The Goat) so damned much diabolical fun is the band’s melding of viscerally compulsive grooves, head-spinning instrumental pyrotechnics, and rapid-fire vocal assaults — and doing so in a way that makes the track highly infectious too. The song vividly intersects with the tech-death sphere through flurries of quickly darting, swirling, and swarming riffage, deliriously cavorting arpeggios, and a multitude of percussive fusillades. As displayed in the video, fingers and limbs fly like the wind, and the guttural barks and hair-raising screams in the vocal department rhythmically eject the violent words just as fast and just as furiously. But, as forecast, the song is also a viscerally groovesome beast. It’s almost relentlessly hard-slugging, but what really stands out are brutish, muscle-galvanizing jackhammer-bursts, the first of which comes only 25 seconds into the track. Another one of those episodes sets itself up as the backdrop for crazed guitar soloing that sounds like the ecstasies of fiends. And we did warn you — this thing is also immediately catchy and enduringly addictive. It comes recommended for fans of Bolt Thrower, Archspire, and Lamb of God.” – NoCleanSinging

What the press said about 2022 album “Servants of the Outer Dark”:

#14 on Top 20 – Loud – Canadain College Radio – August 2022 (Earshot)

“An alchemical style reminiscent of Cannibal Corpse, Misery Index, classic Megadeth, melodic Swe-death, and all eras of Death and Carcass.” – Decibel

“Rips, we’re here for it.” – MetalSucks

“Perfectly marries old school death metal, blackened tendencies, and heavy metal choruses.” – Metal Injection

“THIRTEEN GOATS unapologetically raise the deathcore flag for the new decade and absolutely don’t care what people think.” – Exclaim!

“Think Vulgar Display of Power-era Pantera in a cage match with Cannibal Corpse and Ministry.” – The Georgia Straight

“A gut-punching and head-hooking offering of death metal that borrows liberally from many of the genre’s subsets, as well as bringing in elements of thrash, black metal, and grindcore.” – No Clean Singing

“With a name like THIRTEEN GOATS, it’s gonna be evil. It’s cool, thrashy, blackened groove metal, a little like a Lamb of God sound with a bit more heavy brutality going on and a dash of black metal evilness. Great stuff!” – The Mosh Pit on WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“THIRTEEN GOATS make seriously good music and sound like they have a lot of fun doing it. They write great upbeat thrash songs with strong melodies that appropriately sway from sinister to camp and pull it off tremendously. For some classic charcuterie of extreme metal mixed with a bit of tongue in cheek, you’re well looked after here.” – Heavy Mag

“THIRTEEN GOATS is a new strength in the extreme scene.” – Metal Temple

“The starting point of Thirteen Goats and their debut album Servants Of The Outer Dark is death metal, but it doesn’t remain tied to it. They explore all types, including tech death and melodic death metal, and even genres outside of that like thrash, groove, and doom metal. Each song brings out a unique side to the band, whether it’s the politically charged ‘Prisoner’s Anthem’ or the body horror of ‘Sub-Being.’” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Canada’s THIRTEEN GOATS are incredibly fun to listen to and at multiple points subtly humorous—and, as such, make themselves easily a breath of fresh air within the technical scene. That sense of fun is backed up with very proficient playing and dizzying creativity, far beyond what you would expect from a debuting act’s first full length… Servants of the Outer Dark is an excellent debut full-length from these guys and I can’t wait to hear more!” [9/10] – Metal Observer

“All you need is love? No. All you need is THIRTEEN GOATS. Their debut album has everything your heart could desire in a Metal record, it’s a metaphorical pizza with all the toppings and a better thrill ride of a first crack we defy you to find!” [8.5/10] – Metal Noise

“These guys have the ability and the chops to succeed, whilst channeling bands like Lamb Of God into their output.” – Man of Much Metal

“This is so good.” – Stephen Quinn, The Early Edition (CBC Radio One)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 11, 2024

Streaming Now! Halifax’s TURBO’s “Broke And Ugly” Is A Gritty Return To Aggressive, Thrashy Nitro Rock

Halifax, Canada’s Turbo is back and louder than ever with the release of their shiny second album “Broke & Ugly”. Known for their gritty, in-your-face sound, Turbo has once again delivered a raw and powerful collection of tracks that will leave listeners begging for more. Like your disheveled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, and sick of your shit, bringing an intensity and energy that is unmatched in today’s music scene. They comment on the release:

“‘Broke and Ugly’ is our second testament to the ups and downs of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, and it comes in swingin’ HARD. The music is raw, greasy, and mean; but it’s also tight, coordinated, and flashy. The lyrics are defiant and visceral, painting a real picture of where Evan’s mind was during the writing process of the album. Themes go from party anthems to drugs, to women of flings-past, to life on the road, and back again. It’s edgy, it’s real, and it’s undeniably Turbo.”

Turbo was created with a singular vision: to create something bigger, badder, and unapologetically aggressive. Evan Frizzle (vocals/guitar), Sylvain Coderre (drums), Lindsey Dicks (guitar), and Henry MacDonald (bass) have poured their hearts and souls into this album, crafting a unique sound that blends thrash, NWOBHM, glam metal, punk rock, and hardcore. The result is an original, aggressive, and varied listening experience that grabs you by the cojones and doesn’t let go.

The album artwork for “Broke & Ugly” was created by a good friend of the band Tim Murray, and perfectly captures the essence of the band’s raw and unfiltered style. The cover depicts a dive-bar nightmare bathroom, filled with Easter eggs from Turbo‘s previous songs and a green hand grabbing for some shit-tickets from a busted-ass urinal. It’s a fitting visual for an album that promises to be a grimy slab of thrash, sleazy, and louder than anything you’ve heard before. Get ready for Turbo‘s distinct flavor and an absolute slaughter in seven tracks. It is recommended for fans of W.A.S.P., Motorhead, and Judas Priest.

Listen to the album’s full stream premiere via Bravewords HERE.

“The cartoon-ish cover art with toxic green/red colors could bring more smiles to the fold – Turbo executing a great crossover sound that stands on the edge of thrash, punk and NWOBHM/heavy metal. Broke & Ugly could be your soundtrack when needing an ideal wind down from your back breaking, seemingly never over work week. 8.5/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“the band is insanely tight, with Frizzle and fellow six stringer Lindsey Dicks really giving it some violence riff wise and soloing like their lives depended on it. Similarly, the rhythm section of Sylvain Coderre (d) and Henry MacDonald take no prisoners and submit to no-one in their ability to hold things together at high velocity. Very impressive. As we get deeper into the twenty first century, bands are running out of ways to repackage, remake and remodel, so the freshness with which Turbo approach the task in hand has to be applauded. This is fun to listen to – and it certainly sounds like the band had fun getting the album down, and sometimes a bit of joie de vivre is all any of us need. But when you are able to mix that in with a killer technique and a sharp ear for a metal tune well, good times await!” – Sentinel Daily

“Turbo’s second full length album is the equivalent of getting into a newly juiced up hotrod, the roof reeled back in, as you’re flooring it down the highway until your smoke trails combust. From start to finish, Turbo live up to their name in droves and then some with energy that cannot be denied and a plethora of tracks that offer much to be remembered. Though boasting a full nine tracks, Broke & Ugly doesn’t even eclipse a full half hour and therefore opens itself up for numerous relistens. It starts up, gets you in the mood to kick some butt, yet doesn’t attempt to overstay its welcome to any degree. For me personally, this style of speed metal can be a vast hit or miss but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this record, and during its duration I was brought on board with Turbo’s infectious power.” – The Razor’s Edge

“TURBO is Halifax’s answer to Motorhead…” – The East Mag

“It is a thrash metal rollercoaster of a musical ride that grabs you by the dick and doesn’t let go until bust a riff-inspired ear nut.” – Slickster Magazine

0 Rockshots Records – Italian Melodic Prog Rock OZORA New Single “Inedia”

  • July 10, 2024

  • · Music News · Ozora (Rockshots Records)

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 10, 2024

Italian Melodic Prog Rock OZORA New Single “Inedia”

Ozora, one of the most innovative and acclaimed bands in the Italian music scene, is thrilled to announce the release of their third single “Inedia” from their highly anticipated new album, set to drop this coming autumn.

The band comments on the new single:

“Inedia” is a 6-minute suite that expands the classic sound of the band towards new sonorities with progressive nuances, featuring energetic verses and a powerful melodic chorus. The track reflects on the perceptual alternation of certain life moments; the highs and lows we face. At times, it feels like “we can no longer read anything in the eyes of others…,” and this sense of endless tedium can either engulf us or awaken us.”

Following in the footsteps of their previous works, “Perpendicolari” (2017) and “Angelica” (2021), the eight tracks of the new album were recorded at the prestigious Fusix Studio under the expert guidance of Andrea Fusini, known for his collaborations with notable artists like Ready, Set, Fall!, Delain, and La Sad.

Ozora continues to amaze with a unique sound that skillfully traverses various genres including metal, progressive rock, and alternative rock, enriching them with new sounds and original arrangements. Their Italian lyrics, the instrumental complexities typical of the best progressive music, and the overwhelming energy of rock harmoniously blend to create an unprecedented musical experience.

This new work not only consolidates Ozora‘s reputation as one of the most interesting bands in the Italian music landscape but also marks another step forward in their artistic evolution. Ozora promises to take their fans on a fascinating and engaging sonic journey, confirming their ability to innovate and surprise.

Stay tuned for further updates and get ready to immerse yourself in the sound world of Ozora with the release of “Inedia” and their new album.

Heavy NFLD Fest Announces 2024 Lineup

w/ THOUSAND KNIVES, FEAR AND FILTH, HELSREACH, VERTEBREAKER, THE ORDER OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD, SMOKE SIGNALS And More!

Poster Design – Samuel Brown // Airline Bourbon

From the furthest Eastern edge of Canada comes the second edition of Heavy NFLD Fest. Taking place over three days in three venues across two cities, Newfoundland and Labrador’s new heavy music festival will bring 30 bands to the stage. The lineup includes Nova Scotian artists Thousand Knives, Helsreach, and Fear and Filth, along with a legion of Newfoundland and Labrador’s finest punk, metal, and alternative artists.

Given its geography as the most easterly province in the country, Newfoundland and Labrador is not a frequent stop on most artists’ tours, even those from its closest Maritime neighbors. The festival aims to draw artists to the province while showcasing their own.

“Heavy NFLD originally started as a YouTube channel intended to archive heavy music from Newfoundland and Labrador, and eventually morphed into a blog where I began covering news about the local music scene in the province,” explains founder Greg Ravengrave. “Growing up in Glovertown, where the population is 2,000 people, there was no music scene to speak of. It all felt very isolating. When I moved to the province’s capital of St. John’s, I discovered the vibrant punk and metal scene here, but I always felt like the rest of Canada never really paid attention to us. It’s been my dream since the start of this project to throw a festival that both celebrates local metal and punk from Newfoundland and Labrador and entices bands from elsewhere in the country to make the trek out here. Eight years down the road, and it’s finally happening.”

St. John’s based musician, audio engineer, and event producer Ben Chapman-Smith serves as the festival’s Programming Manager. Of his role as architect of the event, he says, “Organizing Heavy NFLD Fest into a recurring annual festival is not just about filling a clear gap in the market. This is about developing a way to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s bustling, but often underrepresented, heavy music scene. We are creating new infrastructure for our artists and strengthening our connections with the rest of Atlantic Canada and even the rest of Canada as the festival grows.”

In its local programming, Heavy NFLD Fest boasts a broad offering of both established and new artists from across the province. The festival includes both all-ages and bar shows in Corner Brook on the west coast of Newfoundland and in the capital city of St. John’s on July 19-21, 2024.

Heavy NFLD Fest passes can be bought in advance here – https://www.eventbrite.com/e/heavynfld-fest-2024-tickets-914779127997. Daily entry tickets are available at the door.
Corner Brook: $25 advance pass (entry to 2 shows on July 19) or $15 at the door per show
St. John’s: $50 advance pass (entry to 3 shows on July 19, 20, 21) or $25 at the door per show

0 SPREAD THIN Pull No Punches In “Unjustified” Off Debut Album “World Of Snakes” Out July 2024

  • July 9, 2024
  • by Asher
  • · Music News · Spread Thin

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – July 9, 2024

SPREAD THIN Pull No Punches In “Unjustified”

New Album “World of Snakes” Out July 2024

Spread Thin is a Wisconsin hardcore quartet fusing power-violence, grind, and sludge into a hostile and indignant opus of aggression for those who like their music fast, loud, and without restraint. They are dropping their debut full-length “World Of Snakes”, on July 26, 2024, and are now sharing their third single “Unjustified” – an old-school, no-nonsense hardcore punk song that gets to the point. The band shares their thoughts on this single and the two that have already been released:

“We wanted an aggressive record with no filler. We feel we achieved what we sought out to record, but this is the beginning of where we want to go from here. The single is about how life is short, we don’t need to make it worse for ourselves and everyone else. Don’t be a bitch. The rest of the album has a lot of surprises, and these three tracks prepare the listener for what they can expect.”

Spread Thin, formed by four best friends from different bands, merges their diverse influences into a cohesive and aggressive sound. With earnest lyrics and fervent delivery, vocalist Ben Deml leads the charge, supported by Alex Dewall’s raucous, scraping guitars. The rhythm section features Tristan Wells’ chaotic, strategic drumming and Bryan W. Fleming’s garish, lively bass.

Unapologetic and impassioned, the band defines a volition of candor in their songwriting and live performances with forthright emotion and presentation. They practice very hard to have a tight rhythm section between the bass and drums, cutting through the chainsaw guitar tone and barking vocals. They are recommended for fans of Spy, Rotting Out, and Magrudergrind.

Watch and listen to the music video for “Unjustified” along with an interview on NoEcho HERE.

“World of Snakes” is due out on July 26, 2024, and is available for pre-order at https://spreadthin608.bandcamp.com.

Montreal, QC – July 9, 2024

Saudi Metal DUNE’s Lyric Video For “Sieve” Is A Potent Thrash Attack Off Their Debut EP “Years Of Chains”

Saudi thrash metal trailblazers DUNE are now unleashing a lyric video for the sonic onslaught “Sieve” a formidable track from their freshly released debut EP “Years Of Chains” which came out this May. Known for their genre-defying fusion and unrelenting energy, DUNE‘s latest offering is set to captivate metal enthusiasts worldwide. “Sieve” is a testament to the band’s evolution and their commitment to delivering a unique and powerful musical experience. The comment on the creation of the EP:

“Years of Chains” is an EP that we wrote years ago but didn’t get a chance to properly record due to multiple difficulties that came our way, after years we have chosen a list of the songs from the originals we have for the EP. The recording process was fun yet we looked for perfection to make the songs as we imagined them with the best quality that we could make.”

The track is the introduction to the EP and provides an eerie start to the chaos and aggression that follows. It clocks in at 4:41 and showcases DUNE‘s signature blend of chainsaw-heavy guitars, chunky bass slaps, intricate drum techniques, and aggressive vocals.

DUNE is excited to see the reception to their debut offering, it is a dark journey into tumultuous subjects and deep dark thoughts influenced by their culture and personal traumas. This EP comes from a mixture of hard work, ambition, introspection, and hostility and is recommended for fans of Testament, Metallica, and Korn.

“Galloping thrash metal from Saudi Arabia, Refuge is taken from Dune’s first ever EP, Years Of Chains, which arrives next month. Incredibly, 2024 marks the twentieth anniversary of Dune’s formation, so whether you’ve been into them for a while or are new to their particular brand of noise, there’s no bad time to get on board. Refuge may be a little rough around the edges, but there’s no arguing with those riffs!”- Metal Hammer

“There is a moment during “Years of Chains” where Dune vocalist Samer Nakhala lets fly with a scream which could have been lifted from any mid-90s Slayer recording. Elsewhere throughout this four-track effort, Dune takes you on a trip combining old-school and modern thrash metal. Like the scream, you can pick out plenty of influences such as Pantera and Slayer throughout these eighteen minutes while lyrically, the band explore a world of dark thoughts and aggression. All combined, “Years of Chains” is a veritable feast of punchy thrash for those who like to bang their hands.” – V13.net

““Sieve,” the opening track builds suspense and fills the listener with a sense of foreboding. Directing the chaotic edge into the whirlwind.” – The Median Man

What the press is saying:

“Located an hour and a half east of Calgary is the town of Drumheller, Alberta. With a population in the neighborhood of 8000 and existing smack dab in the middle of Canada’s desert and dinosaur country, it’s not a place one would immediately associate with any sort of metal scene, let alone a big-ass outdoor metal fest. But that’s where you’d be wrong. Going into its 11th year, the Loud as Hell Festival is set to roll on August 4-6th with the likes of Narcotic Wasteland, Jungle Rot and Incite headlining three days of metallic fun featuring 40 or so bands, including The Convalesence, Gorgatron, Necronomicon, Untimely Demise, Eyes of Perdition and more.” – Decibel Magazine

“Western Canada’s loudest heavy metal festival brings fans to town more known for dinos than drum solos.” – CBC Calgary

“What’s more metal than the badlands? Drumheller, AB, is known for being the dinosaur capital of the world — but it’s also the home of the Loud as Hell festival, an event celebrating none other than the loudest music known to man (and, by proxy, prehistoric reptile).” – Exclaim!

“Loud as Hell – one of Canada’s top underground metal festivals – was a metal family reunion. If you walked around the grounds, where tents covered the landscape like flowers, you would experience concert goers laughing, hugging and just enjoying the moment. The music played non-stop and the people were some of the best you’ll meet. What else do you need? If you’re a metalhead fan, mark it down for next year because this is a concert you don’t want to miss.” – Blackfalds Life

“Headbanger alert: Loud As Hell festival to ramp up the volume” – Calgary Herald

“Nevermind the bug spray and sun tan lotion, as August approaches Drumheller residents should stock up on earplugs.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud As Hell returns to the southern Alberta city for its seventh year and as its name implies, will rock the city to its core.” – Calgary Herald

“Loud as Hell has celebrated eight years in the Badlands to date, with acts from all over the world-shattering the peace and quiet of the hills in a camping and music extravaganza.” – Hanna Herald

“Drumheller with its dinosaur bones is the site of the annual Loud as Hell heavy metal festival Friday through Sunday. Dozens of the heaviest bands known to Man will be taking the stage, many of them Canadian” – Gig City

The 2023 edition of Armstrong MetalFest broke attendance records again with its eclectic earth-shaking lineup that featured 28 bands performing on the two-day festival that included headliners LA thrashers WARBRINGER, San Francisco tech-death giants FALLUJAH, festival alumni Spokane, WA’s ENTERPRISE EARTH, and Los Angeles’ THE ZENITH PASSAGE, along with Denver’s H.P. Lovecraft extreme metallers VALE OF PNATH, and Edmonton’s Juno award-winning heavy metal champions STRIKER.

Since 2009 (minus pause years 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic), West Metal Entertainment and Armstrong Metalfest have not only fostered the talent of hundreds of local bands, but have imported well-known, international acts to the quiet, little Canadian town of Armstrong, British Columbia.

Each year hundreds of metalheads from Canada and the USA descend into the picturesque Okanagan Valley and under the blistering sun, they spend three days camping, taking in as much metal over two days, participating in wrestling events, scavenger hunts, and catching up with their metal family.

The festival has seen such renowned headliners as Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Archspire, Nekrogoblikon, Origin, Rivers of Nihil, and Beyond Creation as well as emerging artists from across North America. At the end of the revelry, the festival disappears without a trace, leaving the landscape as pristine as it has always been.

West Metal Entertainment is a non-profit society that not only puts on the Armstrong Metal Festival every year in Armstrong, B.C. but also gives bands opportunities to play at different venues throughout the region including all-ages shows, to encourage musical passion in kids as well as adults.
