Set Sail Into The Stars With EREGION’s New Video “Earendil Star” Off New Album “Non Omnis Moriar” Out May 2024

Heavy/power metal band Eregion is set to captivate fans again with the release of their new single, “Earendil Star”. This highly-anticipated track offers a powerful blend of distinctive power metal tones, coupled with the band’s signature epic flair, promising a gripping musical journey.

As a precursor to their upcoming album“Non Omnis Moriar” slated for release on May 24th, “Earendil Star” is a rather fast song that talks about Earendil navigating space after his ship gained the power to fly. The sound of this song is epic, melodic, powerful, direct, and battle-starved where lyrics are inspired by history (especially the one of the Vikings) and by fantasy (nonetheless by the writings of Tolkien). For fans of Ensiferum, Blind Guardian, Judas Priest, Crimson Glory, and Manowar.

As a prelude to the spring album launch, Eregion introduces a refreshed lineup, welcoming Dario Fontana as the lead vocalist and Davide “Gengis” Gianforte as the bassist, injecting renewed energy into the band’s sonic landscape.

EPK – Gnarwhal – Altered States (EP) (2024)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“We hope our progression as a band and as songwriters appeals to our fans and listeners. The Altered States EP is a bit darker and maybe heavier than our first album. Conceptually and thematically, the songs on the EP fit together better as a package and we hope this is conducive to a front to back experience for listeners.” – Benji Straker – Gnarwhal

For fans of The Sword, Kyuss, Mastadon, Elder, Truckfighters

Gnarwhalband.com | Facebook.com/gnarmusic | Instagram.com/gnarwhalsounds | Youtube.com/@gnarwhalband | Soundcloud.com/gnarwhalband

Spotify | Apple Music | Gnarwhalband.bandcamp.com

“Gnarwhal moves along at its own Fuzzed Out Stoner pace with its style of Hard Rock and slightly Doom tinged grooves. Taking cues from bands such as Mastodon, The Sword, Elder and King Buffalo, these guys walk a fine line between Classic and Modern day Stoner sensibilities especially with the Proggy Spaced out vibes. There’s a HEAVY METAL beast waiting to escape from the cleaner grooves that Gnarwhal plays and when it does escape from its cage, Gnarwhal becomes a more exciting creative unit.” – Outlaws of the Sun

““Tides,” a brutal, stormy track that meshes fuzzy, downtuned vibes with unrelenting proggy rhythms. Forlorn vocals that seem to prophesy the inevitable collapse of civilization, as illustrated by the single art.” – Doomed And Stoned

“Altered States follows Canadian four-piece Gnarwhal‘s 2023 self-titled debut full-length with four songs that effectively bring together atmosphere and impact in the six-minute “The War Nothing More” — big build in the second half leading to more immediate, on-beat finish serving as a ready instance of same — with twists that feel derived of the MastoBaroness school rhythmically and up-front vocal melodies that give cohesion to the darker vibe of “From Her Hands” after displaying a grungier blowout in “Tides.” The terrain through which they ebb and flow, amass and release tension, soar and crash, etc., is familiar if somewhat intangible, and that becomes an asset as the concluding “Altered States” channels the energy coursing through its verses in the first half into the airy payoff solo that ends.” – The Obelisk

“With their innovative sound and thought-provoking lyricism, Gnarwhal continues to push the boundaries of heavy music and establish themselves as a formidable force in the Canadian rock landscape and Altered States is a testament to Gnarwhal‘s ability to seamlessly blend diverse influences into a cohesive sonic tapestry.” – Amplify The Noise

“To Canada, Yellowknife to be precise, and the fuzzed-up, whacked-out goodness of Gnarwhal. The band has not long since released a nice little EP, Altered States, that simply oozes class. At times they inject a bit of space rock quirkiness – that should probably be quarkiness, given that first track Tides carries more than a whiff of Hawkwind about it – but for the most part this is wholesome, fuzzy doom of the highest order.” – Sentinel Daily

“rich in beautiful qualities in a vein that is both granite and catchy, these four titles confirm that Gnarwhal a group to follow closely. ” – Music Waves

======================================================

About the album as a whole (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

Musically the EP as a whole is really inspired by the music I was listening to at the time of writing each song. I have a basis for what I want a Gnarwhal song to sound like, then draw in aspects from the influences that are in my life at the time. There also needs to be a cohesive flow or feeling to the EP which in this case, musically, is a bit darker and heavier than our last release.- Benji

There seems to be a common thread to most of the lyrics on the album and I feel listeners will be able to relate their own experiences to the songs. I know what these songs mean to me and try to steer toward authentic emotions to accompany the instruments.

The songs on the album portray a sense of resilience and a fight against the complexities of our own thoughts and emotions. No matter how much the characters in the songs endure, you can still feel a sense of hope and resilience. – Mark

Track by Track (LYRICALLY & MUSICALLY):

TIDES

Tides came along from the main riff that had been spinning around in my head for quite some time and a vocal melody that I could also hear over top of it. I really wanted to do something that was a bit of a departure vocally and was really into melodies that Stephen Brooks (singer of Torche) writes and performs. I also like the vocal range space he sits in.

The chorus lead takes some inspiration from Russian Circles and once that came together we had a pretty solid track. Lyrically, I just looked in my notebook full of lyrics and picked some doomy stuff that portrays a dark feeling of missing out on things past and being trapped in an apocalyptic feeling. – Benji

The War/Nothing More

This is actually two songs that I wrote at completely different times that we thought would work well stitched together. I wrote The War shortly after we finished recording our first album. At that same time I was writing music for my Hughes project EP so lyrically and thematically it fit right in line with that. Once I finished it, I actually released it as an acoustic solo version on the EP, Here I Am.

The Nothing More demo was written shortly after and musically it was inspired by my classic post-hardcore/punk influences. I think Refused would be the main driver of the rhythm on this track. – Benji

In Nothing more,  I am fond of the lyric: “Shed your skin to make it”. This part relates to putting in the work day in and day out,  wanting something so bad you  are willing to do anything just to grasp it.   Pushing your own boundaries,  knowing you put the time and effort into your vision.

“Whole again you can’t fake it”: Being authentic.  To be whole this character has to believe in this process and be present in his delivery of the songs. – Mark

3) From Her Hands:

Stones slipping from her hands, down to the ground like yesterday. Tides of hope for tomorrow are coming down to wash you away.

These lyrics come alive in the outro of this track. The stone slipping from her hands could symbolize so many things that we try to hold on to. What is meaningful to you and worth holding?

What are you willing to do to keep the stone from slipping away? A search for what you value comes to mind and the fight to protect what matters to you the most. – Mark

4) Altered States:

“Take what is left of me cause I’m the one you saved”

An appreciation for the difficult times, as much as it makes this character hurt, it shapes them at the same time.

Wanting to belong, finding a purpose

Many of the traits we all share as human beings

“Gone are the Memories” represents an entire lifetime of experiences and wanting to hold on to these memories. All the relationships we create, trying to remember who we are and fighting for this with everything we have.

Failed to see her memories – I love this lyric and it was written while listening to the tracks. This was one of the lines that kept coming back to me. I feel this line is relatable and it would be interesting to hear the stories out there that could stem from this lyric. You know, from the point of view of the listener. I know what it means to me and it is quite powerful, and I can’t wait to share this live. – Mark

======================================================

Fun Facts – Story Angles:

1. On the day of our very first show, Layne started feeling ill in the afternoon. We were headlining to a sold out room so the show had to go on. Layne showed up late for load in and soundcheck and spent the majority of soundcheck in the bathroom on the toilet.

When the opening bands were playing, Layne was nowhere to be found. He showed up to the venue 5 minutes before our set looking like a ghost and like he just lost 30lbs. He downed 3 or 4 Jagermeister shots and played flawlessly while feeling miserable. At the end of our setlist, he begged us not to play an encore, but the crowd asked for it and Layne had to struggle through 2 more songs. – Benji

2. On tour, Jeremy eats his cereal with water. But he gives it 110% every time. – Layne

3. Prior to landing on the band name, Gnarwhal, we went by the name Witchfinger (for a week or two). It was a joke on a cramped finger Mark had at a practice but everyone we told thought we were saying “which finger?” – Jeremy

4. In August 2023, our city was under a wildfire evacuation alert. Our rehearsal spot is right at the edge of town where the fire was approaching. So on the day the alert was released we completely emptied our jamspace of all gear and stored it in a cube van in Benji’s driveway (he lives on the opposite side of town). The next day – the entire city went under mandatory evacuation so everyone had to leave for three weeks while fire crews (including Jeremy who stayed back to work the fire line) fought the fire. The city was saved, our gear was spared, and Jeremy is a hero! – Benji

Gnarwhal is a genre-bending four-piece rock band that weaves heavy alternative fuzz rock with progressive metal intricacies and doom-tinged grooves. Originating in the remote northern Canadian city of Yellowknife in 2021, the band swiftly coalesced and emerged as a leading catalyst in the resurgence of heavy music within their home territory.

Drawing inspiration from prominent acts such as Mastodon, The Sword, Elder, and King Buffalo, Gnarwhal navigates a musical spectrum that gracefully straddles the realms of classic and contemporary fuzz and heavy rock. They artfully intermingle these elements with nods to ’90s grunge influences, paying homage to their collective punk and heavy metal tastes.

Gnarwhal has had the privilege of sharing stages with notable acts and has left their mark on some domestic festivals and stages in Western Canada, helping establish their status as a burgeoning force within the Canadian rock landscape. With their innovative sound and distinctive blend of genres, Gnarwhal is poised to leave an impression on the heavy music scene.

Gnarwhal’s sophomore release, the Altered States EP, will be dropping on May 24th, 2024.

Yellowknife’s GNARWHAL Unveils New Single “Tides” from Upcoming EP “Altered States” Ahead Of The Electric Highway Festival Appearance In Calgary

Gnarwhal, the genre-bending four-piece rock band hailing from the remote northern Canadian city of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories, is thrilled to announce the release of their latest single “Tides” from their upcoming EP “Altered States”, which is slated for release this coming May 2024. The dynamic track offers a mesmerizing blend of heavy alternative fuzz rock with progressive metal intricacies and doom-tinged grooves, showcasing the band’s evolution and musical prowess. Gnarwhal is also sharing this single in the lead-up to their performance at the quintessential stoner/doom/rock festival The Electric Highway in Calgary, Alberta from April 4th to 6th. The band shares their thoughts on the upcoming single:

“Tides is a song we originally wrote in early 2023. It’s a bit of a departure from some of our other standard rock songs, but definitely hits a little heavier too. Lyrically, Benji was just spitting out doomy ideas on paper which ended up synthesizing into a concept that fit really well with the other tracks on the EP. It sort of tells a tale of despair and dread about decisions made and your place in the world. There’s a bit of an apocalyptic feel to it.”

Listen to “Tides” via its premiere on DoomedandStoned HERE.

Gnarwhal‘s innovative sound seamlessly blends elements of classic and contemporary fuzz and heavy rock into “Altered States”, which promises to deliver a dark and immersive musical journey that resonates with listeners on a profound level.

In addition to their eagerly anticipated EP release, Gnarwhal’s appearance at The Electric Highway Festival on Saturday, April 6th supporting headliners further solidifies their status as a burgeoning force within the Canadian rock landscape. The band’s electrifying live performances, coupled with their distinctive blend of genres, continue to captivate audiences and leave an indelible mark on the heavy music scene. Look out for the conch! Gnarwhal is recommended for fans of Mastodon, The Sword, and King Buffalo.

Seattle Rockers PALOOKA’s New Music Video Will Blow Your “F Mind”

New EP “Save Yourself” Out Now!

Unveiling their latest EP “Save Yourself” at the beginning of March 2024, adrenaline rock n’ rollers PALOOKA have their next music video offering for their “F Mind”. It’s a groovy song with guitar and drums setting the tone to spiral fans into an anthemic sing-along with its lyrics creating a connection that will resonate with each listener.

“F Mind is an observation, looking out the window or watching TV, the absurdity of it all sometimes. It’s an interplay of light and dark.” adds the band.

The video can be seen and heard via its premiere on V13 HERE.

Based out of Seattle, WA, Palooka‘s new EP “Save Yourself”, was written during the Covid pandemic. The recordings were not only an artistic endeavor but a coping mechanism that gave the band a way to stay connected in a very disconnected world at the time. Their “Save Yourself” EP is a product of this time and method. Their fans have always stayed with them through the way time and growth has impacted our music.

The band comments on the recordings:

“We’re incredibly excited about this release! The energy and intensity we’ve poured into it are undeniable. At the heart of it, PALOOKA has always been a Hard Rock band. That said, we are fans of many genres including Metal, Blues, 70’s Rock, Grunge, Alternative, and more. I believe PALOOKA has always combined these influences in a way that is uniquely us. I believe our fans who have followed us understand and appreciate this aspect of the band. We’ve pushed ourselves and the boundaries of our musical style while trying to stay true to this approach once again with this release. We hope our evolution will resonate with our fans, who’ve been with us through thick and thin.”

Fronted by vocalist singer Chuck Campbell, listeners will feel the belting melody lines full of emotion and purpose, while Chris Quinn and Glen Logan trade flurries of devastating and searing guitar punches reminiscent of a barroom brawl. All of which sits on the rock-solid pounding foundation built on the talents of Howard Binner on bass and the percussive mauler Jason Reavis on drums. This powerhouse of rock has been making waves since their 2011 debut album “What’s Wrong With Wanting Everything” in 2011. They have come a long way since then and their new 2024 EP “Save Yourself” channels their influences of metal, blues, 70’s rock, grunge, alternative, and more into energy and intensity.

Recommended for fans of Cheap Trick, Alice in Chains, and AC/DC., Palooka‘s “Save Yourself” was released on March 1st and is available at the following links:

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 22, 2024

Out Now! UNSHINE’s Highly Anticipated Fifth Album “Karn of Burnings”

New Lyric Video “Aettarfylgja”

Finnish druid metal band UNSHINE is celebrating the release of their fifth full-length “Karn of Burnings” on Rockshots Records with their new lyric video for the single “Aettarfylgja”, which can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/tcirF8HodZA

Guitarist Harri Hautala adds about the track:

“The core idea, the copper mountain from which the world tree grows, behind ‘Karn of Burnings’ came from a Bronze Age burial ground I visited two years ago. This visit largely changed my view of the world from a historical and especially ancestral perspective. ‘Aettarfylgja’ paints a picture of the people of that era. Lots of music in a small space.”

UNSHINE‘s new album, “Karn of Burnings,” assures an enthralling voyage delving into the realms of pre-modern human existence and posthuman metaphors, characterized by their signature blend of melodic Nordic folk elements and the ethereal vocals of Susanna Vesilahti. With eight tracks, each representing a living entity from different eras, the album spans 45 minutes of melodic storytelling. UNSHINE believes that fans will be pleasantly surprised by the album’s offerings, promising a unique and unpredictable listening experience.

Fans and enthusiasts worldwide are encouraged to experience the ritualistic journey of “Karn of Burnings” now available as of March 22, 2024, from Rockshots Records. It is recommended for fans of Amorphis, The Gathering, and Skálmöld.

VIOLET ETERNAL Unveil Next Single “Now And Forever”

First Full-Length “Reload The Violet” Out May 2024 via Rockshots Records

Album Guests – Takao (MinstreliX), Gabriel Guardian (IMMORTAL GUARDIAN), Timo Tolkki (ex-STRATOVARIUS) and more!

Set to release their debut album “Reload The Violet” on Rockshots Records this coming May 2024, Violet Eternal, a band based between Italy and Japan is unveiling their next single “Now And Forever”, a song about heartbreak and human separation.

“It’s a track that seems to be power metal, but the melody is very oriental.” adds the band.

VIOLET ETERNAL was born out of the desire of two musicians from Italy and Japan to work with each other in creating a new melodic metal band, blending power, and oriental choruses with fast-paced rhythms and interpersonal lyrics, with the ambiance of shredding guitar solos.

Band co-founder and guitarist Jien Takahashi comments:

“I wanted to create the ultimate melodic power metal duo after MAJUSTICE and other activities, I was hungry for new music. There were a lot of songs at the end of the previous activity, so I was looking for a way to shape it. In such a situation, I met Ivan Giannini online. I originally knew Ivan from his legendary work with VISION DIVINE and the album “Angel of Revenge” and his other band Derdian. I was completely fascinated by his emotional voice that seemed to burn the skies. So I was wishing I could do something with him. When I got in touch with Ivan, we immediately hit it off and we decided to make an album together.”

After connecting with vocalist Ivan Giannini, Jien made a call to a mutual friend Ollie Bernstein (Illusion Force, Magic Opera) who he had a feeling would be interested in joining the duo in creating an album together plus he was also playing bass in Derdian, which Ivan was a member of too.

Not too soon after, more pieces to the project came together when the trio recruited Andrea Cappellari (Nekomata and former guitarist for Skeletoon).

With all the members collected, and music being written, the band was ready to hit the studio and decided to team up with producer Dennis Ward (Angra, Helloween) for their first full-length album “Reload The Violet”. The album also features guests Takao (MinstreliX), Gabriel Guardian (IMMORTAL GUARDIAN), keyboardist YUHKI, drummer Ryuya Inoue, and Timo Tolkki (ex-STRATOVARIUS).

“From the time of production, Ivan and I were convinced that this album would be a game changer. I think it’s a work that people who love melodic metal will enjoy. If you listen to the music of VIOLET ETERNAL when you feel down, you will surely feel cheerful with a hot feeling. Our music will give you the courage. This album strikes hard with both powerful vocals and a perfect mix of oriental melodic metal and emotional vocals.” says Jien Takahashi.

Recommended for fans of Stratovarius, Beast In Black, and Angra, Violet Eternal‘s debut album “Reload The Violet” is due out on May 3, 2024, from Rockshots Records.

Phaeton has been a noticeable force in the underground Canadian progressive metal scene since their debut self-titled album in 2018. The band has amassed a dedicated following for their instrumental attention-focused listening experience. One drenched in joy and wonder and the emotional, visceral release that only prog-metal can deliver. The lack of lyrical interference only allows the listener the better opportunity to let their imaginations run wild with the music, drifting emotionally away on the solar winds to wherever they wish to soar. Their second album “Between Two Worlds” was released in April 2023 and now they are ready to bring it to a live atmosphere with their first two shows since October 2019.

Phaeton‘s first show date will be on March 29th in Fernie, BC at the Fernie Elks Hall with Vancouver’s SVNEATR and Boise ID’s WEALD & WOE along with their other live performance on April 12th as a special guest opener for the Calgary Wacken Battle Final at Dickens.

Phaeton bassist Ferdy Belland adds about their upcoming performances:

“It’s beyond exciting for us to be playing live onstage for the first time since before the pandemic. We had the Between Two Worlds album completed, mixed, mastered, and ready for release, and what do you know – that was the first week of March 2020. Great timing or what? The whole wide world shut down the following week, and we had to wait, and wait, and wait, like everybody else did. And then, when the pandemic restrictions were gradually stumbling away, and we were all frothing at the mouth to get back to the abnormal we used to know, Colin got sick. There was no frustration over that – fuck the band, that was our friend who almost died. But he pulled through and got back into fighting shape again, and then we began to think of ourselves as a band again. So we released the album and watched in curiosity as the world tried to make sense of us if they could. Quite a few did, and they really got off on Between Two Worlds, which was so very gladdening for us. The positive reviews we received made the wait worth it. So now we had to remember what it was like to be a live act again. Our last live show was at Vern’s Pub in Calgary back in October of 2019, playing with Atavistia and Syryn. We only had maybe half a dozen shows under our belt when that gig happened, since we started off as a composing and recording project; after the first album was released we immediately started receiving requests to play live, so finally we just shrugged our shoulders and said ‘okay, let’s rehearse these things. And from our first show, we were always very well-received by excitable audiences. Not that I think we’re astonishing, but that certainly propelled us to seek out more shows. And then the pandemic erupted while we were making other plans. I suppose all good things come to those who wait. Looking so forward to getting back onstage, and staying onstage for a while. See you soon!”

Event details for both events can be found below.

March 29 – Fernie, BC – Fernie Elks Hall – info here.

April 12 – Calgary, AB – Dickens – info here.

The members of Phaeton are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence intrigued us conceptually. This is reflected in their dramatic music which emerges from the void in thrilling bursts and unexpected turns.

“Between Two Worlds” was released on April 21st, 2023, and is available at Phaetonband.bandcamp.com, Spotify.

About: PHAETON was formed in Kimberley, BC in March 2017 by Kevin Thiessen (lead & rhythm guitar), Daniel Airth (lead & rhythm guitar), Colin Righton (drums & percussion), and Ferdy Belland (electric & fretless bass). Combining technically ferocious compositions of modern metal with the ambitious song-arrangement mindset of classic prog-rock, PHAETON (named for the theoretical proto-planet that collided with Ancient Earth during the Primordial Era) stands alone in the wilderness of British Columbia with their unique approach to instrumental prog-metal.

Phaeton is:
Kevin Thiessen – Lead & Rhythm Guitars, Keyboards
Daniel Airth – Lead & Rhythm Guitars
Ferdy Belland – Electric & Fretless Bass
Colin Righton – Drums & Percussion

Discography
2018 – Self Titled – LP
2023 – Between Two Worlds – LP

– 30 –

“An instrumental quartet from Kimberley, British Columbia, Phaeton are skillfully blurring the boundaries between old- and new-school prog metal. Their second album, Between Two Worlds, covers a vast amount of ground, from intricate post-djent riffing, to indulgent prog pomp, and no single outstays its welcome. The nine-minute title track is a particularly impressive display of showboating and smart songwriting.” – Prog Mag – Dom Lawson

It’s Prog Mag’s brand new Tracks Of The Week! (April 21, 2023) – “Hailing from Columbia, Canada’s Phaeton are an interplanetary instrumental heavy prog metal quartet and as their name suggests, they are fascinated with astronomy, and the idea of life itself, in all its beauty and wonder and majesty, emerging from an instant of catastrophic cosmic violence. The epic Between Two Worlds is the title track of the band’s latest album.”

“Phaeton are relatively unknown, especially compared to the above mentioned bands (scale The Summit, Animals as Leaders), but they definitely hold their own on Between Two Worlds. All members absolutely kill it on their instruments, the songs are wonderfully arranged and produced, and there’s plenty of variety here to hold our attention. Instrumental prog might be a little talked about genre, but Phaeton belong in the conversation.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

““Between Two Worlds,’ the song, is the magnum opus of Phaeton: a progressive instrumental metal rollercoaster, almost second to none. This impressive track is filled with power chords galore, outstanding melodies, neck breaking riffs, almost inimitable solos and lots of tempo changes and variety; in other words, you never get bored here, even as the song clocks in over the nine minutes mark!” – Rock United

“…a killer album indeed, wonderfully arranged and produced; a superb prog metal opus where the music almost makes you dizzy, but most of all longing for more indeed. “Between Two Worlds” to me is one of the absolute highlights of this year, a unique twist and rollercoaster of progressive, instrumental metal, highly recommended indeed: especially suitable for fans of Rush, Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment. Play it LOUD and you will be hooked, listening tip: “Monsoon.”” – Rock United

“All metal influences flow into the respective songs and riffs and power chords are widely spread. The sound of the opener “Predestination” is very reminiscent of GHOST.” – Hellfire Magazin

“”Between Two World” was very competently arranged and recorded by PHAETON. Prog fans, who like sounds and virtuosity above all, will be well served with the disc.” – PowerMetal.de

“PHAETON releases an instrumental album in which the voice is not lacking; a nervous, boosted opus where the frank and limpid musicality makes you dizzy, where the notes invite you to travel in space to another dimension, where harmony is combined with controlled djent power; innovative music, on modern math metal-prog.” – Profil Prog

“If you’re open minded in your choice of Metal genres, you should feel free to let this instrumental work slip through your ears. It takes a little getting used to, so completely without singing. But if you get involved and listen carefully, one or the other will surely like something. The whole thing should appeal to fans of RUSH or DREAM THEATER.” – Hellfire Magazine

“Top-tier instrumental prog-metal-math music from the East Kootenay region performed by a quartet of veteran musicians.” – Stuart Derdeyn (The Vancouver Sun)

Icelandic hard rock/metal sensation Drungi is making waves with their upcoming debut album “Hamfarir Hugans”, set to be released on April 5th. As a prelude to this highly anticipated release, the band has dropped their first single, “Alda”, which hit the airwaves in late 2023 to critical acclaim. They continue that momentum with the second single “Myrkur” (Dark), constructed with a heavy waltz simulating a dance macabre with the darkness, which reflects the element of the song. They explain further:

“We don’t know what happens in the darkness and how it will affect our life, and that’s the scary idea that happens in the musical part of Myrkur. Depression, You can let the darkness control you but you must remember to turn on the light that only oneself can turn on. The darkness can be obsessive but it is dangerous if it’s used wrong on others and yourself.”

“Myrkur” is a song that was originally inspired by one of Drungi’s earliest demos that did not make the cut for the album. The song tracks the feeling of darkness and depression that we all feel inside of us, some feel it stronger, others have an easier time finding the light, “but we are the Darkness and we want you to join us”.

The release of “Hamfarir Hugans” marks Drungi’s fifth year together, and promises an emotional rollercoaster with tracks like the isolating “Ófærð” (Impass) and the desolate “Þoka” (Fog). The album’s themes delve into mental health issues, mirroring the band members’ personal struggles. All lyrics are in Icelandic, connecting with the harsh environments that locals have navigated since the island’s inception.

“Myrkur” is an invitation to dance within the darkness and is recommended for fans of Skálmöld, Black Sabbath, and Gojira.

Omnivide, the Canadian progressive metal act, formed in 2020 and is ready to release its debut album “A Tale of Fire”. Musically, the album is a blend of their favourite elements from progressive metal, technical death, and symphonic/power metal. There are some very heavy/dark riffs, some very grandiose/more epic sections with lots of orchestral instruments, as well as lighter/cleaner sections with clean vocals. The band expands:

“We are extremely excited to finally share this album with the world. We started working on the first songs in 2019, so this has been in the making for a long time now. We had to learn a lot during those years to achieve our vision, from songwriting to audio engineering and production, and we wanted to make sure that we put out something we’d be truly happy with, which is why the process took so long. We don’t expect the next album to take nearly as long, let’s put it that way!”

Lyrically, the songs on “A Tale of Fire” are broadly about Omnivide trying to understand death, both as a tragedy and a natural part of life, the pain it brings, and the resilience that can be born from it. They use storytelling in some songs as a vehicle for this, and since they love fantasy media, the content of these stories has fantasy elements, while also weaving in deeper concepts of death, hardship, regret, and growth. Other songs revolve around historical figures, while others are mostly metaphorical, but all are linked together by this exploration of all aspects of death.

With plans for future releases, Omnivide promises to continue pushing the boundaries of its musical exploration, offering fans an evolving and captivating experience. The band encourages fans to expect another album or EP within two years of this release, as they are already immersed in the creation of new material. “A Tale of Fire” is recommended for fans of Alkaloid, Devin Townsend, and Obscura.

Due out on March 22, 2024, “A Tale of Fire” can be heard via its full stream premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“The compositions on the album are as tenacious and imposing as the angles in the band’s logo. Each song packs a list of surprises that are like colorful candy being fed to you just when you are beginning to get hungry. Obviously talented, the quartet never lets their talent outshine their songwriting, although the flashes they do show will leave you speechless. How is this band not signed to a major record label?” 9/10 – Metal-Temple

“The vast swirling and shimmering sounds that open the new song (Csomic Convergence) quickly encompass the expanse and wonder of the cosmos, but the heavy punching throb of the bass and electrifying percussive acrobatics presage something different on the way — and the change arrives in a sudden flurry of rapidly darting notes, furiously hammering drums, and scalding snarls — which suddenly trade places with sky-high singing. It’s a head-spinning experience, with many moving parts that spin and shift with thrilling speed, eventually overlaid with keys that resemble a glorious heavenly choir whose tones contrast with the ravenous growls and manic instrumental intensity beneath them. Although the rhythm section continue to kick up a storm, the music seems to become even more magnificent and sweeping — until the intensity erupts in blistering blast-beats, unhinged screams, synths that sear, and a thoroughly mind-bending guitar solo at the finale. It’s the kind of closing spectacle that will put your heart in your throat.” – No Clean Singing
