Montreal’s Eternal Closure has a shiny new album “At the Center of It All – Chapter I” ready for ears. One that is more diverse, heavier, and more technical than anything they have done before. It shows how their songwriting abilities have taken a whole new step and incorporate prog, and djent elements simmered in with the solid core base. The lyrics come from the heart about what they stand for, how they feel about a range of subjects, and how they get mad at those who reject nuance and empathy in their lives. They comment on the album:

“We are beyond excited to present our latest work to the public. It is our most ambitious project to date. It features bigger and more intricate arrangements, a more aggressive edge as well an interplay between female and male vocals. We wanted to show how versatile we are but also how heavy we can be. The lyrics are darker and meaner overall, so the music had to reflect that. We’ve decided to split the album into two halves as we felt it would help give the material more chance to breathe. It’s not quite what I’d consider a concept album, but many lyrics and musical ideas are re-used throughout.”

Composed of six tracks, this album is the first of two parts that will have 13 in total. The band split their material like this to allow for maximum breathing time for each release. The second part can be expected next year.

Like their previous records, the album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy), who has become an integral part of the band’s sound. The album artwork was done by Pascal Marcoux and Jonathan Lauzon.

The band is a fun one to watch live, they don’t take themselves too seriously, and the rare sight of three guitarists adds an extra dimension to their music that you never knew you were missing out on. “At The Centre Of It All” is an incredible-sounding record that will blow people’s minds. It is recommended for fans of Periphery, Killswitch Engage, and As I Lay Dying.

The full album “At The Centre Of It All – Chapter I” comes out on September 23, 2022, and can be heard in advance via its stream premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Exitus Stratagem Records – “Collateral Damage” Is Coming From AITTALA’s Doomy New Album “Live to Regret”

“Live to Regret” Out November 7th

Aittala can best be described as eclectic doom, they have taken inspiration from other genres such as sludge, power, and traditional metal. They are gearing up to release their sixth album “Live to Regret” this fall and to intrigue listeners, they offering their first single “Collateral Damage” accompanied with a music video. The single is a hard rock/metal track about dealing with relationship ultimatums set to catchy, memorable riffs and comes with a video. They had this to say about it:

“It was the first song written for the album during the pandemic. The lyrics were inspired by a very chaotic relationship one of the band members was going through at that time. The girlfriend was very controlling and kept drawing lines and giving ultimatums until it reached the breaking point and the relationship shattered. The music flowed as organically as the lyrics and it came together very quickly. We are very proud of this song and video and excited for the fans to experience it!”

Watch and listen to “Collateral Damage” via its premiere on TheCirclePit YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/ZKuIKuQohoE

The album “Live To Regret” has eleven tracks, all written during the pandemic, and conveys a sense of chaos that the band members were experiencing at the time. Compared to the albums that came before it, the core of the Aittala sound remains constant, but steadily matures over time. The first two albums were more experimental using programmed drums with heavy use of keys/synthesizers. After drummer Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith joined the band in 2012, the writing started to tune in to his drumming style and become more guitar orientated. In 2019, bassist Ali Lugo joined and brought a different musical perspective that is infused throughout the new album.

The original incarnation of Aittala was formed in 1991 in The Netherlands while guitarist/vocalist Eric Aittala was stationed there with the United States military. For about 18 months, they played shows around The Netherlands and started to create a buzz around the scene. Unfortunately, Aittala had to leave the country at the end of 1993 when his military contract ended. The project lay dormant for quite some time while Eric played in other bands, but he continued to write and record Aittala songs as a side project. In 2009, he made the decision to concentrate on Aittala again as his only musical endeavor.

Aittala’s sound is one that is hard to narrow down, they have managed to etch out a uniqueness all their own, but will find favor with those interested in Mastodon, Eyehategod, and Baroness.

“Live to Regret” will be available on November 7, 2022, via Exitus Stratagem Records and was produced by Eric Aittala and John E. Wooten IV, who also mixed the record along with mastering by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering. Album artwork by Mariano Pugliese.

About: The music of AITTALA (pronounced ‘EYE-tah-la’) crosses many metal genres; it’s hard to put it into just one category. The sound infuses elements of classic heavy metal, doom, progressive, power, thrash, and hard rock with lyrics drawing inspiration from the darker side of the human condition. The AITTALA sound has been cited for being unique which is no easy feat in the metal genre.

The first version of AITTALA was formed in 1991 while Eric Aittala was living in Holland. With fellow American Tim on vocals and Dutch bandmates Ed (drums) and Jon (bass), the band became a staple of the Dutch metal scene.

With the release of the 3-song EP ‘Selling Heaven’ in summer of 1993, AITTALA opened for such bands as THE GATHERING and SADIST. Unfortunately, as the demo started to create a buzz in the underground European metal scene, Eric had to return to the US and disbanded AITTALA.

Over the next decade or so, Eric played in numerous bands (TRIBE, MAGNETHEAD, DWELL) and lost focus on AITTALA.

Near the end of the 00’s, Eric decided it was time to refocus his efforts on the AITTALA brand. From 2009 to 2016, AITTALA released 4 full-length albums: ‘Bed of Thorns’ (2009), ‘Haunt Your Flesh’ (2011), ‘Effigy’ (2014) and ‘American Nightmare’ (2016). Each album showcasing a natural progression of song writing and lyrical content but retaining the core AITTALA sound and evolving it.

In 2019, AITTALA signed with Curtain Call Records and released the band’s fifth full-length album ‘False Pretenses’. It was ten brand new songs that not only continued the song writing evolution of heavier but catchy songs, but also sonically. AITTALA used an entirely different approach for the recording, mixing and mastering to create the best AITTALA album to date.

The current lineup of AITTALA consists of Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith (THE FIFTH, ex-MR BLACKWELL) on drums and Ali Lugo (ex-AGE OF DESPAIR) on bass.

They continue to write, record and tour to bring AITTALA to the masses with plans in 2022 to unleash their sixth studio album entitled “Live To Regret” to be released by label Exitus Stratagem Records.

“The band’s sound is difficult to pigeonhole because they incorporate a variety of styles. The common element in all the songs is the potent groove. On tracks like “Black Coffin” and “Afterthought” stoner/doom is at the forefront, while songs such as “Disowned” have a more traditional metal vibe. There are progressive influences on “How Much Longer,” while the closer “Debt” is a piano based ballad. Even with so many disparate styles, Aittala bring everything together into a cohesive whole.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“I would describe them as an eclectic Doom Metal band, although their sound is a bit tough to define. That’s ultimately a good thing though, and I enjoy the refreshment of something different. My only major complaint is that on some songs, the vocals and lyrics are so drawn out that they become a little boring and you end up waiting a bit for something cool to happen. The good news is something cool usually does end up happening” – Metal-Temple

“In the metal world, bands can start to sound the same and Aittala steps outside of the box. With clear crisp vocals, grinding rhythms and well executed leads, this band is definitely in a league of their own.” – The Metal Channel

0 GREBER Unveil Music Video For Harsh Sludge/Hardcore Track “Nosebleed” + Tour Dates

GREBER Unveil Music Video For Harsh Sludge/Hardcore Track “Nosebleed”

New Album “Fright Without” Out Now!

Editing by Youth and Rust
Left to Right – Steve Vargas – Drums and Vocals, Marc Bourgon – Bass and Vocals

Greber is a harsh grind/hardcore act, coming at ya’ from the east coast of Canada. They have recently released a new album “Fright Without”, which is their fourth full-length. They now have a video for the track “Nosebleed”, an honest look at reality, which will throw listeners directly into the fray that is their low-end dominant, noise-encrusted, hardcore grind. They explain in their own words:

“This one is a bit all over the place. Maybe TOO all over the place perhaps. We dig it nonetheless. Topically….and orally….this one is just a reckoning with the fact that we are all closer to death than we can ever imagine. Either that or further than we can imagine. The nug of bullshit that I’m getting at is that few people are ever aware of the fact that they are doing something for the last time. The last time is just the last time and then whatever it is you were doing, ends. Life. Your car. Your hair. Your friends. Just love the shit out of as much as you can throughout the duration of the current nightmare you’re experiencing. There I go pontificating again.”

The video for “Nosebleed” can be seen and heard via its premiere on EverythingIsNoise HERE.

For the duo of Steve Vargas (drums/vocals) (The Great Sabatini) and Marc Bourgon (bass, vocals) (ex-F*ck The Facts), the lyrics always come first and the rest of the song is built around them. Primary songwriter Bourgon mentions that he’s started taking way longer to form and conceptualize song ideas before even picking up the bass and it helped him keep things focused.

Compared to their other albums, they say that this new one is the same, but different; there is evidence of evolution, but fans who have been with them from the beginning will still get along with the new offering.

Greber invites the world to indulge in gritty vocals and a harsh low-end attack. They are recommended listening for fans of Unearthly Trance, Cult Leader and Primitive Man.

“Fright Without” is available from the following labels: Ancient Temple and Nofuneral for Vinyl, CD, and Cassette in Canada, Hibernation Release for Vinyl in the USA, and 7 Degrees and Fresh Outbreak for Vinyl in Europe.

“Greber is here to do one thing, and it’s throw aural punches. The band is now streaming their new single “Into Silence” alongside a new video directed by Torin Langen, both of which are as fantastic as they are disorienting.” – Metal Injection

“Crazed and raging, it reaches fever pitches of savage rampaging. But even in a song (Tree Carving) that barely clears the minute-and-a-half mark, Greber do what they always do — shift gears and contort moods, and electrify the music with constantly changing fretwork and drum patterns. Oh yes, these dudes know how to spin heads as well as traumatize them.” – NoCleanSinging

“the riffs that power Fright Without are frequent and come in a variety of forms. Whether it’s the sludgy plod on songs like “Larkinitis” and “Rats of Subversion” or the full grindcore assault on “Fabricated Purpose” or “Into Silence”, there’s a surprising amount of variety on the record, an attention to textural detail that belies the band’s instinctual approach. While the riff may not be the most important structural element to every Greber song, it’s nevertheless the thing that first grabs the listener’s attention” – Exclaim

“the band’s forthcoming fourth album, Fright Without which grows their combining of elements of punishing sludge, doom, grind and metallic hardcore into a frantic wall of sound that reminds as much of Swans, Napalm Death and Coalesce as it does Big Business, Burnt by the Sun and Painkiller.” – Decibel Magazine

“Chaotic force of nature Greber are set to return with their latest full-length offering Fright Without and they’re angrier and louder than ever. The band hit the listener with a furious wall of sound that sits somewhere between grindcore, sludge and hardcore…. another solid notch in the duo’s already impressive belt ” – Cave Dweller Music

“It goes without saying that Fright Without is an intensely oppressive record, but given that it only spends half an hour trying to suffocate you it’s definitely worth letting it have a go. If you’re a fan of the bands mentioned at the top of this review (Mastiff, Helpless, and Yautja) you should have no disappointments here, and the two-piece dynamic actually ends up working in Greber’s favour in that it sets them apart at least a touch from an increasingly crowded scene of bands devoted so proudly and exclusively to misery and mire.” – Noob Heavy

EPK – The Wring – Spectra (2022)

Publicist – Jon Asher – jon[@]ashermediarelations[.]com

“I am very proud of the compositions on this album.  You will hear rock, prog, metal, jazz, classic rock, and probably a few other things, covering a wide range of approaches, but still cohesive and very accessible for any kind of listener.  Prog music can tend to be grandiose; I wanted this album to be the opposite of that.  Tight, concise, and well executed with interesting melody, rhythm, and lyrical themes.

The players: Marco Minnemann on drums – possibly the best rock drummer on the planet right now.  You could spend months just listening to his tracks in isolation.  Reggie Hache’s bass playing is similarly intricate and impeccably executed.  I like to think that the guitar parts are interesting and somewhat unique and span a very wide range of styles, influences and execution.  The vocals come straight out of the 80s with great melody and delivery, offering a very grounded counterpoint to the, often, odd time and melody structure.  There are also keyboards hidden in the mix that offer an almost subliminal base on which everything else is built.

The cover has a cool ’70s vibe that is simple but offers a depth of meaning that will be very personal to each observer; a reflection of the musical content within.” – Don Dewulf – The Wring

“A band composed of top artists from the world prog scene, each of whom brings their own style to the band’s sound. Technique and energy, melodic passages, dynamic and expressive vocals and elaborate instrumental sections characterise the album. A recommended listen for all lovers of Progressive Metal sounds, an album to listen to again and again, always managing to give us positive emotions.” – Progressive Rock Journal

“Tired of prog metal bands who fire away odd rhythms, fast solos and complex arrangements? Half of them trying to sound like Dream Theater but all failing completely? Look no further. The Wring from Canada offers great musicians who find their own way through the prog metal jungle. I said great musicians and I really stand for that. Or how about Marco Minneman (drums), Chandler Mogel (vocals), Don Dewulf (guitars), Reggie Hache (bass, keyboards) and Isamu McGregor (keyboards)”… Sometimes they are a bit more commercial, like in the first song ”Stiletto”, reminding me a lot of Threshold. Other songs bring a bombastic wall of sound, with riffs do die for – ”The Wolf” is a great example. The early parts of ”Fallen” has some Rush vibes (of the later and more rock base Rush era) and also softer parts Mogel is a very good vocalist, and he can alter his voice a lot. Something of a voice chameleon!” – Melodic.net

“The opening notes of ‘Sins’ remind me of the opening salvo in Judas Priest’s ‘The Ripper’. Some of the riff structures are also reminiscent of Priest and it’s another great track.” – TheProgSpace

“The third album Spectra by the Canadian progressive rock project The Wring is downright infectious with its joy of playing and catchy Hard Prog Rock songs. There really is a lot of light and very little shadow here.” – Soundmagnet

“Here’s one for prog dorks. This outfit’s third outing (Spectra) features drums by Marco Minnemann so you know the rhythms are mad. The regulars in the band ain’t slouches either though. This is intricate and melodic prog done well.” – Metal Injection

““Wring² Project Cipher comes with a heavy, classic rock feel, but there’s an epic, questing nature to tunes like Sorceress, Steelier and Dose that pushes The Wring beyond metal norms and into prog territory.” – Prog Magazine

Or how about Marco Minneman (drums), Chandler Mogel (vocals), Don Dewulf (guitars), Reggie Hache (bass, keyboards) and Isamu McGregor (keyboards)? This is their third full length album, which follows upon The Wring (2017) and Project Cipher (2021). Sometimes they are a bit more commercial, like in the first song ”Stiletto”, reminding me a lot of Threshold.

“Here we have some progressive metal/classic metal, getting a little more into some more typical prog metal with good technical/complex stuff and yeah, keyboards!” – The Moshpit 89.9 FM – Madison, WI

“The extreme professionalism on display throughout this entire album, although a labour of love, is a true master class of musicianship performed by musicians who are truly at the top of their game, making the industry what it is today. The sheer attention to detail is a credit to each and every performer as they tailor their craft neatly and precisely throughout every track, with nothing less than perfect being the order of the day.” – Stargazer Music Magazine

“Overall, the entire album is laden with a rich tapestry of sound and lyrics, well thought out and carefully developed by founder member and visionary Don Dewulf, taking the listener on that perfect journey of thought, and is a credit to its makers gathering no dust in any collection. 10/10” – Stargazer Music Magazine

“Thanks to his renowned session musicians and original compositions, The Wring is a refreshing discovery that offers a personal reading of modern metal. 4/5” – Music Waves

“What sounds at first to be a straight-forward rock album, turns out to be so much more. It’s a tad short, but sometimes less is more. You can hear many influences in these tracks, some of them familiar, but The Wring have stamped their own identity all over it. This should keep you going for the time being but expect more from Don Dewulf with The Wring3 already in the recording stage!” – The Prog Space

“Dewulf’s guitar work shines throughout, at times reminiscent of Alex Lifeson in his prime, such as his powerful solo on ‘Steelier’ which soars above the raging musical maelstrom below. There’s even a funk-infused breakout on ‘Dose’, which is infectious with its driving hook. It’s an absorbing record, one that takes time to soak in, but several plays ensure that it’s burnt deep into the memory. When those end-of-year lists come round, ‘Wring² Project Cipher’ is likely to be pushing for a slot.” – The Razor’s Edge

“The Wring generally succeed at what they’re going for—Dewulf has produced a fun, catchy record. Particularly on the album’s middle section (“Cipher,” “Steelier” and “Dissension”), there’s some great songs with great riffs. If you’re after some new prog, you could do a lot worse than this album, and I found it quite hard to score.” – Angry Metal Guy

“The overall sound is something like the heavier side of Rush, with hooks and melodic elements smoothing out the guitar crunch, making this very accessible.” – The Progressive Aspect

“Coming out of nowhere with a completely experienced, well-produced, and polished debut record full of complex compositions and dynamics for vocals, guitar, bass, and drums is Sudbury’s newest best-kept secret: The Wring… I give this album a solid 63 out of the 67 moons of Jupiter, including all four Galilean moons.  Highly recommend it for fans Tool, Opeth, Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, or if you listened to your dad’s records growing up.” – Kipp Grose, Asylum Club

Spectra is maybe a bit like a 1970’s King Crimson album but without any ethereal soliloquies and certainly with a more significant hard rock/metal influence.  It is a cauldron of hard rock, jazz, metal, classical, 80’s rock, 70’s rock and probably a few other things.  The performances are tight and meaningful.  Marco Minnemann’s drums were the first thing to be recorded.  His performance set the tone; the other guys had no choice but to play their asses off, and they did!

Track by Track:

Stiletto – This song is about the debilitating need for social media attention and validation.  The blade goes in and you never even feel it, then you slowly bleed out.  The verses are in 5/8 and 7/8 creating a somewhat jarring effect, also speaking to the theme.  Chandler does a killer job on the chorus vocal and there is a very peculiar odd-time breakdown before the solo.  Very fun song to play.

Stones & Bones – I’m so happy with how this song turned out; a few key changes but all very appropriate.  A bit of odd time here too and another great vocal performance.  There are also some keyboard parts buried in the mix. Originally, I had planned for this to be a bit of an ode to Deep Purple and Isamu McGregor played a Jon Lord homage but it was just too much (Blackmore never really played rhythm guitar to give the keys space; my rhythm guitars are the foundation of every song!!)  I had to push the keys deeper into the mix; they still add a ton, but more subliminally than overt.  Isamu will probably be mad when hears it, he played his ass off.  Lyrically… I come from a mining town in Northern Ontario, Canada.  Sometimes it feels like a place where music goes to die… just stones and bones.

The Prince – This one was inspired by the Thomas Hardy book ‘The Mayor of Casterbridge’ but is also metaphoric to the self-serving ruthlessness and controlling nature of societal predators.  Musically it’s interesting because the verse is pretty straight ahead rock and the chorus is pure jazz and in odd time. The vocals smooth that over beautifully.  “demi-gods blood-letting weaponized airwaves” – I love that line.  Pretty much sums up the human condition these days.

The Wolf – An instrumental.  Fun main riff with another jazzy chorus and a crushing ending.  Reggie played some killer bass on this and added a great keyboard melody, lifting the song in many ways.  I played this one on a 7-string which adds a nasty resonance.  Fun breakdown and solo.

Tin Man – Starts off with some keys and acoustic guitar, my Opeth rip-off (I’ll say it before someone else does).  Kind of a mid-tempo rock song after that.  The theme is somewhat unusual for me as it was loosely inspired by my son.  He is 18, brilliant, and has a moral compass, unlike any other human I know.  This world is overfilled with greedy maniacs and murderous thugs.  Kids like my son are on a path to change that.  It’s my song of hope.

From Mars – One of my favourite songs on the record.  Somewhat autobiographical, I think.  As a younger person, I really struggled in crowds, especially ones in which I did not belong; which was most.  If you’ve ever felt like a complete alien in a room full of people, you will relate!  I am very proud of the middle breakdown.  Some cool chords and a very fun solo.  Another great performance by Chandler and by Reggie who played some killer bass and also came up with the spooky little piano line in the verses.

Sins – I love the main riff.  It’s another odd time thing (in 13 this time) but the vocals really smooth it out.  Has a total Metallica middle part that jumps out of nowhere!  Marco’s playing on this was inhuman.  The lyrics came from my dismay at how humanity can have advanced so much and in so many ways and yet still do absolutely horrifying things to each other.  How many years will it take for Ukraine to recover from Russia’s insanity?

Fallen – The theme of this was a response to the protests and civil disobedience in both Washington DC and Ottawa, Canada.  It’s incredible how a single charismatic mouthpiece can gather the rabble of humanity and shape it into a weapon.  The intro is odd and staccato, my musical interpretation of crowds of rioters with no real purpose other than chaos. The main riff is simple and, I think, powerful.  Love the solo and the end section on this one.

About:

Canada’s The Wring is gearing up to release a third album in December, which is an amalgamation of different styles, brought together by solo artist Don Dewulf. His project has been growing by leaps and bounds, and this new release will wow listeners across the heavy spectrum. “Spectra” is a bit like a 1970’s King Crimson album, but without any ethereal soliloquies and certainly with a more significant hard rock/metal influence. It is a cauldron of hard rock, jazz, metal, classical, 80’s rock, 70’s rock, and probably a few other things. The performances are tight and meaningful. Dewulf comments on the album:

“I am very proud of the compositions on this album. You will hear rock, prog, metal, jazz, classic rock, and a few other things, covering a wide range of approaches, but still cohesive and very accessible for any kind of listener. Prog music can tend to be grandiose; I wanted this album to be the opposite of that. Tight, concise, and well-executed with interesting melody, rhythm, and lyrical themes. Marco Minnemann’s drums were the first thing to be recorded. His performance set the tone; the other guys had no choice but to play their asses off, and they did!”

To bring his vision to life, Sudbury, Ontario local Dewulf enlisted some of the best professional musicians to play the parts. Marco Minnemann – world-renowned drummer, member of The Aristocrats, and successful solo artist. Chandler Mogel – Amazing singer with a great 80’s vibe. Reggie Hache – Canadian bass superstar. Does his own thing and contributed incredible parts to this album. Isamu McGregor – Session keyboard player with great vision and feel. Together they deliver an expansive, detailed eight-track album that touches on a wide range of musical styles and themes. Each listener will hear something different in the compositions.

The Wring started in 2015, as Dewulf had a lot of material written that needed to see the light of day. He assembled the players and released the self-titled album in 2017. They played some shows, and players drifted off, but there was still an abundance of material. Another batch of studio musicians was brought together to release “Project Cipher” in 2021 and yet another diverse bunch got together for “Spectra”.

The band’s classic heavy rock intertwined with prog is recommended for fans of Rush, King Crimson, and Dream Theater.

“Spectra” is due out on December 16, 2022 via Wormholedeath Records.

BAND STORY ANGLES / FUN FACTS: (Don Dewulf)

1.  When the previous album (Project Cipher) was released, Ashermedia took it out to the world.  It was no longer just my personal basement project.  I talked to so many people and received so many positive reviews and feedback, it was amazing.  Even the bad reviews liked something about it.  I learned that proper marketing goes a very long way.

2.  During one of the many interviews I did for the last album, the interviewer asked if I was on a label.  I said ‘no’ and he referred me to Carlo Bellotti at Wormholedeath records from Italy.  Carlo really liked the album and I signed a distribution deal with them.  I presented ‘Spectra’ to Carlo and he went crazy for it, offering an upgraded deal and some further opportunities to push my songs around the world.  Great stuff.

3.  When I was looking for players for the new album, I asked Carlo at Wormholedeath for some suggestions.  He told me that I should look for guys that are killer players but not ‘famous’.  I had already secured Marco Minnemann but followed his advice for the rest.  Reggie, Chandler and Isamu all have great resumes and utterly incredible talent; I could not be happier with those performances.  I should also mention that Marco is surely not human.  His playing is absolutely interstellar.

4.  When it came time to find a mixing engineer, I was a bit lost.  There are so many guys doing this.  Then I happened to pick up the new Voivod record.  I loved the tunes and the production and they are Canadian, so I looked at who did the mixing…  It turned out to be a guy named Francis Perron, also Canadian.  I contacted him and he was keen to do the work on Spectra.  He is a great human and a talented engineer.  I am very grateful for his presence and spirit.

5.  I am a simple guy.  I love to write songs and hear them performed by great players.  I don’t care about money but I do constantly seek to get my music in the ears of like-minded people.  Jon Asher pushed that ball forward a lot.  Two things I’ll always remember:  having the album get a good review in Prog Magazine and having a video posted on the Bravewords website.  Those are two places I’ve been going for many years for music news.  To see my stuff there was surreal.

From the Italian island of Sardinia, proggers EVEN FLOW are unveiling their next single “Revelation Day” with a new lyric video. The track is off their forthcoming EP “Mediterraneo” due out on October 3rd, 2022. The track has a Catholic inspiration and is a song to be discovered musically in its entirety. Listen as the melodic parts are intertwined with their more progressive songwriting.

Listen to “Revelation Day” at https://youtu.be/SCGx6Bb8gVM

EVEN FLOW‘s new recording “Mediterraneo” follows their three EPs “Dream Weaver” (2008), “Mother” (2019), and “Flower Paths” (2013), and two albums “Life Has Just Begun” (2017) and “Ancient Memories (2011).

“Mediterreano” sees the band approaching the record with progressive metal in the rhythm with vocal lines oriented towards power metal with AOR eighties influences. Lyrically, the EP speaks of love, hope, sadness, and joy for the future. Guitarist Pietro Paolo Lunesu explains the record in further detail:

“The five songs that make up Mediterraneo are gloriously uplifting anthems that draw you from your world of cares and worries into an exhilarating musical realm of dreams. The songs are concise and finely honed, yet seem to contain an ever-expanding universe to explore within their duration. For example, the title track, ‘Mediterraneo’, is perhaps the EPs crowning glory, building through multiple layers, each more captivating than the last, but in truth every note from the first bombastic chords that usher in opener ‘Ocean Lies’ to the final spiraling guitar solo of ‘Mediterraneo’ is sheer melodic, progressive metal perfection.”

The EP was immaculately mixed and mastered by Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Temperance) with spectacular artwork by Mickael Briot of Mythrid Art (Nightmare).

“Mediterraneo” also features Even Flow‘s new lineup with vocalist Marco Pastorino (Fallen Sanctuary, Temperance) and bassist Luca Negro (Temperance) joining the Lunesu brothers Pietro Paolo (guitar) and Giorgio (drums).

Over the years, since making their debut in 2008 with their EP “Dream Weaver”, Even Flow has done multiple tours across Europe and has supported bands such as Serious Black, Firewind, Eluveitie, Iron Savior, Katatonia, Orphaned Land, Katatonia, Pain Of Salvation among many more.

“Mediterraneo” is the next majestic level of achievement for Even Flow and is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Stratovarius, Angra, and Queensryche.

Montreal, QC – September 19, 2022

Rockshots Records – Ride The “Last Tide” w/ MindAhead’s Next Single Off Upcoming Album Out Oct 2022

New Album “6119 – Part I” Out October 28, 2022

Ride the “Last Tide” of progressive avant-garde metal from Italy’s MindAheaD with their second single off their forthcoming sophomore album “6119 Part 1” being released via Rockshots Records at the end of October.

The latest track to be previewed off their upcoming full-length record, “Last Tide” is an emotional ballad that tells the next chapter of the concept album’s character “6119”. The band explains in further detail:

“Lost in a kind of frame, like an endless instant, ‘Last Tide’ describes where “6119” finds himself on the seashore, watching the waves and the sunset. He reflects on the natural change of things that, just like the waves of the sea, never stop changing, and thinks back with nostalgia and hope to the female figure seen in the desert. But this sudden and almost unique carefree situation is the result of an error, a power surge in the Machine’s connections that allow “6119” to have an independent vision of the program, an autonomous thought, you can say. Soon (in fact, it is the shortest track on the album), as soon as the sun went down, the Machine reestablishes itself and again takes control of “6119’s” consciousness.”

Watch the music video for “Last Tide” at https://youtu.be/b8fxBNEIGaI

MindAhead‘s next full-length offering “6119 Part 1” follows their 2017 debut “Reflections” released on Roman label Revalve Records. Just like its predecessor, the band’s new offering is once again a concept album with a complex, personal and unusual sound to test the limits of their songwriting. “6119 Part 1” is a continuation of the previous work on “Reflections”, which will tell us the story of 6119, the main character, through a surreal, oneiric journey, always poised between physical space and the realm of the mind. Trapped in this dreamlike kaleidoscope, he proceeds heedless of the consequences, hoping to find at the end of the journey (the “Part II,” currently in production) the reason why all this is happening to him.

Merging different aspects, sometimes opposite, of human feeling, bringing them together in a colorful and personal musical proposal, which has its roots in influences ranging from prog 70s to death metal, the band explains the new album in further detail:

“This album is a concept realized with the aim of telling a story that straddles the line between dystopian science fiction and the psychological investigation of the human mind, so the music and lyrics were created in order to reach these goals. We would like the listening experience to be completely immersive. We would like the listener to be able to take a break from the real world and step into another dimension, one that is distant but at the same time well known, not alien, but almost familiar. The listener should passionately follow the events of ‘6119’ in its inner and outer search for reality, in a story that began in the previous album ‘Reflections’ and will end in the band’s next release, so as to complete a narrative trilogy.”

Having shared sharing the stage with bands such as Jinjer, Vision Divine, Deathless Legacy, Domine, Pino Scotto, MindAhead is recommended for fans of Opeth, Ayreon, Haken, Katatonia and Pink Floyd. “6119 Part 1” is due out October 28th, 2022 via Rockshots Records.

“MindAhead are a band of innovation in metal. They are on the vanguard of where avant garde and progressive metal is going into the future. I believe Reflections is opening up another door of true ideas and standards for this kind of experimental metal. They continue Italy’s rich under rated progressive rock and metal tradition. They have a very distinctive and unique sound that will stand out among the current metal landscape. MindAhead’s Reflections is one of the absolute strongest debut albums over the last 25 years. I am giving MindAhead’s Reflections a perfect 5/5.” – Power of Prog

“The music captured different moods very well that it was almost like an emotional roller coaster listening to this album. Kyo Calati and Frank Novelli did an awesome job singing together. With his ferocious, strength-y growls and screams and her beautiful, serene, innocent voice; they complimented each other like peanut butter and jelly. Great vocalists, great playing and great music! I recommend giving it a listen.” – Metal Temple

“MINDAHEAD have done a lot right on their debut album. Reflections is exciting and entertaining, brings – with the exception of the quiet Farewell – power and surprises with its modern and progressive expressions. An unexpectedly strong debut.” – Vamspter

“Between long suites (Amigdala and Three Sides Of A Dangerous Mind) and more immediate pieces, as in the case of On The Dead Snow and Emerald Eyes, the sextet demonstrates an uncommon determination, and the proven ability to confront a modern and evolved conception of metal. A knockout blow that deserves to be properly exploited, by a band with great potential.” – Rock Hard Italy (2017)

“Among MindAheaD’s many musical influences are the 70’s, progressive rock and death metal. The nature of this band is multifaceted and the band’s name itself is a word that blends thought (mind) and body (head).” – System Failure Webzine

“MINDAHEAD have all the ingredients to become a safe bet, with their own personality and a full-length that, being their debut, could be preparing us for a spiritual successor of OPETH.” – Necromance Magazine

“If you like your progressive but don’t mind a few aggressive vocals in the mix, not that they really dominate, then this is highly recommended. The female vocal is excellent and the countering of the two works perfectly.” – The Rocktologist

Canadian Prog/ Experimental Guitar Project THE SECRET PLACES OF THE EARTH (Barrett Klesko – All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos) Debuts Spacey Ambient Single “Mother Brain”

New Album “The Space Between The Stars” Out Sept 23rd

Canadian progressive and experimental guitar project The Secret Places Of The Earth has announced a second album coming up entitled “The Space Between The Stars”. This will be the follow-up to “Stormwalker”, which was released early this year. The introductory single “Mother Brain” gives listeners a chance to dig into the spacey, ambient, experimental guitar work within.

The solo project of award-winning Canadian composer, and visual artist Barrett Klesko (All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos), The Secret Places Of The Earth started as a reason to mess with interesting guitar effects, and it turned very quickly into a deep flow state experiment in loop-based composition. All songs are recorded on a very minimal rig; few guitar pedals and a looper, no multi-tracking involved. He shares some insight into his work:

“There are two ways to experience my work; one is through active listening, in which case, you could expect trippy guitar sounds, soft waves, and lots of ambient washes and motion. The other is through meditative listening, in which I find there is a very soothing feel to this music, akin to a sound bath. I find it to be very healing.”

Without lyrics, it is up to the listener to decide what the songs mean to them. According to Klesko, there has been some interesting feedback in that the song titles seem to properly reflect the music, which is great because he let them name themselves. The titles just come to him on the first listen back, and he tries not to overthink that.

With an album already out, “The Space Between The Stars” on its way and a plethora of songs waiting their turn to be released, the sound of the project evolves very quickly, each selection of songs is different than the ones before, but as the album’s release, Klesko prefers to let the listeners experience that for themselves.

A huge fan of Pink Floyd, Klesko notes that he is hugely influenced by the guitar and ambient sounds in “Dark Side” and “Wish You Were Here” specifically. He also really likes zoning into some of the deep sleep playlists out there, no specific artists, but the overall vibe of the sleep genre speaks to him.

In the deepest reach,

Thoughts adrift among the stars

Slumber now in peace

This album is a deep reflecting pool, as it submerges the listener, massages the senses, opens and engages the mind, and relaxes the body. It is recommended for fans of Pink Floyd, Repulsive, and Midwife.

A visualizer video for “Mother Brain” is available on YouTube – https://youtu.be/aDpM7C9qKo0

The album “The Space Between The Stars” comes out September 23rd, 2022, and will be available on the following platforms:

Thesecretplacesoftheearth.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music

Track Listing:
1. Mother Brain (6:25)
2. The Space Between the Stars (3:12)
3. Fragile Futures (3:01)
4. Drifts (4:52)
5. Breach (3:06)
Album Length 20:19

About: The Secret Places of the Earth is a non-linear, live compositional experiment by award-winning Canadian composer, and visual artist Barrett Klesko (All Else Fails, The Order of Chaos, FadeBack Studios United). His first album “Stormwalker” was released in early 2022 to a modest, though enthusiastic fan and critical reception. Described as darkly beautiful, magnetic, and often unsettling, “Stormwalker” has been gaining momentum with a growing cult following due to its organic live feel and hypnotizing depth.

17 Crash‘s new record “Stamina” isa much more complex and profound piece of work written entirely during the endless lockdowns from the 2020 pandemic that the world experienced. Their passion for the 80’s glam / hard n’ heavy rock n’ roll crossed with a particular duality between human struggle and the will to fight and resist against all the odds. It might seem that 17 Crash has come a long way, but rest assured they are just warming up for what’s to come.

Colliding their emotions, fears, and wishes, mixing up everything they got inside, talking about their experiences and how they changed over these past testing years, 17 Crash explains their album in further detail.

“People should listen to this album very carefully, trying to catch the real spirit of it. Words have a very important message in this one, considering the times we are living in and what happened in 2020. The singles show what we are and what we want to say after these two terrible years. It’s like a concept about this crazy modern era and all the effects it brought to us. This record, it’s a box with all the emotions and the feeling we had during the composing process. We are talking about being us at 100% and our fans know that we always speak just about the truth. On this album, we shared everything we wanted to. No secrets, just feelings.” adds the band.

Recommended for fans of H.E.A.T, Crazy Lixx, Eclipse, Hardline, and Stryper, “Stamina” is available for pre-order at the following link – https://bit.ly/17Crash_Stamina

Never bored of being hungry to see people dancing, and having fun, inclusion is one of the biggest aspects of 17 Crash, the fans are the gig. The band will be performing on show dates to support the record that will be revealed at a later time.

About:
Driven by the passion of drummer Phil Hill and singer Ros Crash, 17 Crash began their crazy journey back in 2011.

At an earlier stage of their career, 17 Crash was a true and vibrant synonym of vintage 80s LA Glam Rock Style: big hair, leather pants, and loud guitars. Distinctive attire and growling sound finally merged into the debut album “Reading Your Dirty Minds” (2015). Right after their first release, the band toured extensively throughout the Italian peninsula while making sure the name of the band was being heard.

Evolving and exploring new sounds, it didn’t take that long until they found what they were looking for with the release of the second studio album “Hit The Prey” (2018). Finding the right balance between the 80s sound and modern AOR, the new record marked a significant turning point both in terms of musicianship and career approach.

Another two years of touring passed until a further stage of evolution with their third album “Through Hell And Back” (2020) reconfirming previous collaboration with long-esteemed colleagues Alessio Lucatti in production and Simone Mularoni for mixing and mastering. The third chapter written by 17 Crash featured groovy heavy riffs, polished sounds, and even sharper tunes, effectively establishing the band as a true landmark not only within national borders, but in the international hard & heavy landscape as well.

Now in 2022, they will present their fourth album “Stamina” on Rockshots Records on November 18th.

Toledo, USA’s The Convalescence has been making a name for themselves over the years with its signature blend of black metal/horror theatrics, intense death metal style blast beats, shredding guitars, brutal slamming breakdowns, and catchy melodies. They recently finished recording their fifth full-length album with producer Jason Suecof at Audiohammer Studios along with mastering by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) for a projected release in 2023. The first single off the upcoming album is “79 Years”, which tells the harrowing history of Pennhurst State School and Hospital in Pennsylvania, USA. Vocalist Keith Wampler shares the details:

“A lot of our lyrics are horror inspired, sometimes it’s some kind of scene that I think of and I use the lyrics to tell that story. Sometimes I use inspiration from horror movies or places we visit on tour. For example, for “79 Years”; we had the opportunity to join LT-TV for a paranormal investigation of Pennhurst in August 2021, after researching the history and finding some horrific things we felt that we should tell that story as a part of the new album. We even ended up filming several parts of the music video inside Pennhurst during the investigation. After spending a night inside, I can’t think of a more unnerving or intense place that I’ve ever been to.”

When asked about the upcoming, yet-to-be-named album, Wampler states that, without giving too much away, it is basically like one big horror movie, song by song each one tells a story. Each one is brutal in its own way. They expect a good reception from fans as they have done their very best to step things up with each album. On this one, they worked with producer Jason Suecof at Audiohammer Studios in Florida, who has worked with most of their favorite bands (The Black Dahlia Murder, Carnifex, Deicide, Job For A Cowboy, etc) and they were beyond stoked he was down to do the album with them. They also hint about some friends doing guest vocals on what they consider the heaviest The Convalescence album so far.

“79 Years” is one of the darkest and most haunting tracks the band has ever written, they are recommended for fans of Carnifex, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Cradle Of Filth.

The video for “79 Years” directed by Nate Thompson can be seen and heard via its premiere on MetalInjection HERE.

Canada’s All Else Fails is releasing its tenth studio recording this year, the aggressive and forlorn EP “The Incident at Black Lake”. Intended to be listened to as a single piece of music, it is dark, both musically and lyrically as vocalist/guitarist, Barrett Klesko wrote his parts in the darkest, most distressed headspace he has ever been in. He says that during the writing of this album, he was convinced that he had been unglued from time, and was barely functioning. This personal torment boils over into the first track written for the EP “I, Defiler”. Klesko explains further:

“In the early days of my spiral, when confusion about my own state was at its highest. I was doing everything I could to understand the suffering I was experiencing. I tried using Acid in an attempt to explore my own mind. Informally guided trips allowed me to see aspects of myself that I hadn’t considered, and I was desperately searching for clarity I couldn’t find in the real world. Primarily this song is about those explorations of self, both the positives and the futility. Musically the song is erratic, kinetic, and industrial. It is heavy, both in guitars but in electronics and noise as well, and carries a time change into its bridge that furthers the disconnect between perception and reality.”

“I, Defiler” is the brutal duality of man. Of the search for knowledge, while being blind to our own instincts and ambitions. It is poisoning one’s self to be able to see clearly. It is the beauty and loss of the endless night sky. It is seeing one’s self and being repulsed by the hollow behind our own eyes. It is despairingly industrial, always changing, relentless in its own turmoil; shifting between grinding guitar work and guttural screams to unnerving digital cleans backed by melodic programming.

Compared to their other nine albums, “The Incident at Black Lake” is heavier than they have been in a while, which fans always love from them, but it’s also much stranger. There is a lot of chaotic energy in the recording, but they have placed every distorted chug, every strange gurgle, detuned synth, erratic glitch, or doom-inducing bass drop carefully.

Recommended for fans of Killswitch Engage, Revocation, and Soilwork, the single “I, Defiler” can be heard via TheCirclePit – https://youtu.be/x_6SuAOiS1A

About:

Over the last 15 years, Edmonton, Alberta based award-winning metal band All Else Fails has become a cornerstone of the melodic heavy metal community in Canada. Combining intense riffs, intricate rhythm sections, brutal guttural screams, and melodic yet unusual vocal lines paired with relevant and relatable lyrics, All Else Fails’ message resonates with us all.

Formed in 2006 with the release of their self-titled EP, All Else Fails has gone on to release 9 studio albums, many of which have garnered awards and nominations from across the Canadian music industry and have propelled the band into live performances all over the world, including their massively successful tour of India in 2017.

For the past two years, the band has been hard at work writing their new album “The Incident at Black Lake.” A deeply personal, brutally honest, and staggeringly complex take on the reality-bending mental struggles of vocalist and founder, Barrett Klesko (The Misfires, The Order of Chaos). The band is filled out by guitarist John Saturley (The Order of Chaos, Skepsis), bassist and vocalist Coco Lee (Eternal Prophecy), and drummer Nelson Collins-Lee (The 21st Agenda, Skepsis). The album is produced by Bevin Booth of In the Booth Recordings and engineered at The Electric Treehouse in Edmonton, Alberta.

In 2022, the band is returning to their DIY roots by mindfully abandoning their social media and redirecting their energy to contributing to their local metal scene by building a direct personal connection to their fans and followers, living in line with a humanist philosophy and encouraging a culture of support between artists. All Else Fails’ new single “Flesh /Excess /Wealth” drops in early September with the full EP “The Incident at Black Lake” releasing September 30th. Fans can experience their explosive new live show this fall in Western Canada.

“Guttural heaviness + impacting music = You’ll like it!” – CFMU 93.3 FM – Master Radio (Hamilton, ON) ( The Forever Lie 2017)

Before you know it All Else Fails has you headbanging and singing along to each of their songs.” – Cadaver Garden (The Forever Lie 2017)

“this six track EP sees this quartet expand their mutant thrash blueprint with doses of melodic crooning and bursts of dizzying orchestral strings on Obedience At The Altar Of Sacrifice.” – Metal Hammer Mag UK (Fucktropolis – 2013)

““Fucktropolis”. What an awesome name for an EP. And what an awesome EP it is.” – Metal Temple (Fucktropolis – 2013)

“They have a very ominous sound, if you will, with quick, intricate and skillful instrumentals – especially the drumming. Their talent really shows through in their final product.” – Spill Magazine (Fucktropolis – 2013)
