Colorado’s Oak, Ash and Thorn Weave Ancient Tales With Music Video For “Praise Unto the Immortals”
|
|
Forged in the mountains of Colorado, Oak, Ash, and Thorn have been spinning epic tales set to melodic death metal since 2018. They have released their second album “To Gaze On Stars of Frost” and now have a music video for the single “Praise Unto the Immortals” ready for eyes and ears. The EP was received well by listeners around the world who appreciated the soaring guitar solos, harmonized vocals, and maturity the band has developed since their previous effort. They explain how their music continues to improve:
“The EP is very special and very meaningful to all of us in Oak, Ash & Thorn. It represents a culmination of the first era of this band, the first three tracks being proper recordings and reworkings of some of our earliest songs. It also serves to mark our path forward, with our first forays into vocal harmonies, and a seriously blazing guitar solo on “Suspended and Frozen” courtesy of Fabian Jiru (Trollfest/Fleshmeadow). The subject matter for most of these songs, meanwhile, is intensely personal to Adam, the vocalist/lyricist, dealing with the death of his father, isolation/addiction, and heartbreak, all through the lens of pagan metaphor. The music reflects that, and it’s more somber on the whole than May Every Altar Linger. We remain rooted in melodic black/death metal, but there are more dynamics on display here, more shading, and we feel that these recordings are a distillation of our musical essence, what we’ve always been about, and where we’re going.”
Lyrically, “To Gaze On Stars of Frost” is about the old gods, the ancestors, and the struggles that come along with being human. Musically it’s very melodic with three-part harmonies and plenty of blast beats. A formidable group, Oak, Ash, and Thorn stands out from the pack with Cierra White’s unorthodox drumming, Adam Armstrong’s dual clean & growled vocals and the layers of interweaving strings from Erik Hoffman and Jason Harding. The single “Praise unto the Immortals” is about the old gods of the world: the elements. Earth, air, fire, and water, and all their many forms. Musically, it invokes feelings of nostalgia and longing, layered with a healthy dose of aggression.
The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Fabian Jiru (Trollfest/Fleshmeadow) who also provides a solo on the track “Suspended and Frozen”. The album artwork was done by Adam Armstrong.
Unique and orchestral, Oak, Ash, and Thorn provide a flurry of highs and lows set into a wide range of emotions that are both soothing and inspiring to listen to. They are recommended listening for fans of Borknagar, Tyr, and Immortal.

About:
Oak, Ash & Thorn arose along Colorado’s Rocky Mountain front range out of a collective passion for heavy metal and old-world paganism. Their debut album, May Every Altar Linger, was released in 2018, laying the band’s foundation of melodic death/black metal shaded with traditional European folk music. The band teamed up with Fabian Jiru of Trollfest/Fleshmeadow to record the To Gaze on Stars of Frost EP, released May of 2021, and is now touring in select states throughout the western United States.

LUFEH To Support SONS OF APOLLO For Brazilian Tour Aug 9 – 14
|
|
Exciting news for progressive rock and metal fans in Brazil. The Brazilian / North American-based band LUFEH will be opening support for the legendary SONS OF APOLLO for four shows in Curitiba, Rio De Janeiro, São Paulo, and Brasília this coming August (dates listed below). The supergroup LUFEH consists of drummer Lufeh Batera and bassist Duca Tambasco (from Brazilian sensation Oficina G3), world-renowned guitarist Téo Dornellas, producer and keyboardist Gera Penna, and American singer Dennis Atlas (as seen on Cruise to the Edge). These special shows will feature music from the band’s “Luggage Falling Down” album, which has been called “A brilliant and perfect cross-section, where high energy, jazzy musicianship meets song-centered flash.”
|
|
SONS OF APOLLO with LUFEH Brazil Tour Dates:
August 9 – Curitiba @ Ópera De Arame
August 11 – Rio De Janeiro @ Circo Voador
August 13 – São Paulo @ Tokio Marine Hall
August 14 – Brasília @ Toinha Brasil Show
LUFEH is a musical collaboration of excellent Brazilian and American musicians brought together by drummer Batera Lufeh. Lufeh himself has had a successful career performing with many famous Brazilian bands and artists, including one of the most well-known Christian rock bands of its style, Oficina G3, among others. In 2008, he recorded his first solo album “Drummed On Classics”, which uniquely combined a mix of classical pieces with progressive rock drumming.
Since moving to the U.S. in 2014, Lufeh has continued his career as a musician, starting in Florida, where he performed with Kristo Reggae and Big Pine Band. Lufeh participated in the Blue Man Group Drum-Off in 2016, where he was awarded the privilege to take part in its grand finale in Las Vegas, and chosen as one of the top five drummers in the contest. He then moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he became the official drummer of Kenny Shipman.
In 2020, LUFEH became an entire unit moving forward with the addition of Gera Penna (keyboard); Duca Tambasco (bass); Dennis Atlas (vocals); and Teo Dornellas (guitar) who have proven to be a great match. The band released the highly-anticipated second album “Luggage Falling Down” in April of the same year. It’s a solid record of Brazilian-influenced groovy progressive metal, which has received great praise from reviewers, calling it a mix between Brazilian music, Rush, and Dream Theater.
The album is both melodic and highly energetic and aggressive. With a strong foundation in jazz and classical musicality, the band brings a metal edge to a unique melodic story. These progressive metal warriors have become tycoons of song structure and, throughout the album, display highly refined expertise in making music that is captivating to listen to, addictively technical, and uplifting.
“Luggage Falling Down” is available on all major digital platforms Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music.

“A track from prog debutants Lufeh now, as I ‘Find My Way’ straight into being earwormed by their Prog metal goodness. Guitar solos that sound like they’ve been written by some of the hard rock greats, with plenty of atmospheric synths and across the board able musicianship means this one was a sure fire hit from the off!” – Uber Rock

Mexico’s proggy alt-rock outfit Lost Nebula is setting out on a Canadian tour this summer in support of their latest album “Created In The Image Of God”. This will be the fourth release from the band and it shows a distinct maturity without losing the desire to try new things – on the record, they introduce the use of synths and growls and bolsters songwriting.
Lost Nebula presents an approachable take to metal, infusing their sound with melodic choruses, hardcore breakdowns, both growling and clean vocals, and elements of pop, alternative metal, and prog. They cover familiar topics such as discrimination, dehumanization, and the growing dependency on technology. The band explains the upcoming album in their own words:
“All the music created by Lost Nebula is a reference to human emotions and feelings. In this case, it covers the human experiences of discrimination, which could be from a different way of thinking or a different way of looking at another person, basing it on transhuman people, in colloquial terms, people with prosthetic parts attached to them to enlarge and/or improve life. It goes from melodic prog metal to power ballad, making the distinctive sound of the band. Strident guitars and bass, tight and complex rhythm parts along with a warm female voice and something that has never been done before in the band, growl vocals added to one of the singles.”
Looking to take the complexity of progressive rock music and repackage it into a more commercial version, Lost Nebula went into this new album with an open mind, and tore down their boundaries. It is the most original, pure form of the band and they will surely impress old fans and captivate new ones.
The tour starts on Tuesday, July 19 in Montreal, QC and they will make their way across the country to Nanaimo, BC. Lost Nebula brings a unique show to every gig, and regardless of venue size, creates an immersive, memorable, epic experience.
Melodic, unpredictable, and creative, “Created In The Image Of God” is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Haken, and Leprous.
“Created In The Image Of God” is available as of July 15th.

Rockshots Records – Cosmic Metal VANDERLUST Take You On A Journey To Mars w/ New Music Video “High Hopes”
Debut Self-Titled Album Out Now!
|
|
Cosmic metallers VANDERLUST (ft. members of S91, Dreal) invited fans into their galaxy of wonder with the release of their self-titled debut album released this past April via Rockshots Records.
Today, they share their next video adventure with “High Hopes”, a heavy-power metal song, that is fast and powerful. It mixes technical riffs with a melodic and catchy vocal line; it’s one of the band’s most Iron Maiden-oriented songs. The lyrics speak about the first human travel to Mars and the great hopes that this mission inspires.
Listen and watch “High Hopes” – https://youtu.be/jI1_XHZnorg
Birthed to travel the cosmos, Italy’s Vanderlust is a power-heavy metal band with prog-thrash influences that tells tales of space travels, astronomy, space engineering, and sci-fi adventures.
“We tried to mix a prog-thrashy riffing in the roots of Megadeth, Vektor, and Tool with epic vocal parts like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Angra, and Lione’s Rhapsody. We also put sci-fi elements in our songs, so you can hear also something from Voivod.” adds the band.
This debut recording is like a stellar system with 12 different planets. The star at the center of the system represents the heavy-power metal around all the songs revolving. Despite all the tracks being irradiated by the same light, they are all different from each other. Vanderlust has fast thrash, slow and doom, shiny and brilliant to grunge, and darker songs. Like planets, which appear like simple small bright spots, but in reality, are all big worlds, Vanderlust‘s songs are more complex than they sound at first listen. In fact, you can easily sing along to some of the choruses even if there are complex riffs in the background. Vanderlust is particularly proud of the participation of opera singer Letizia Cappellini who does vocals on select tracks and helps the band further expand the vocal register of their compositions. The band also adds the presence of synths and electronic elements to the compositions to set the sci-fi mood of the lyrics.
“The main goal was to start a metal band that could be an inspiration for young people, a band that could tell them stories from the future when mankind will have overcome its limits and the solar system will be an entire human colony. This idea came to mind to founding members Francesco and Santo when they began their search for other members that could fit. Drummer Giacomo Mezzetti joined the space odyssey right before the covid-19 outbreak. Vocalist Riccardo Morello joined the band during the first lockdown in Italy, so the first song was entirely composed online, using videocalls and file sharing.” adds the band.
For their live aspect, Vanderlust is currently working hard to create a thrilling spectacle, giving all their energy to the fans and letting them join them on the space journey.
Vanderlust is recommended for fans of Iron Maiden, Angra, Tool, Helloween, and Vektor.

Newfoundland Black Metal Duo ARTACH Unleash Release New Single “Hoarfrost”; Announce New Album Coming Late 2022
|
|
St. John’s, Newfoundland black metal duo Artach has been relatively quiet since the release of their sophomore album, “Sworn to Avenge”, which was unleashed in June of last year via Depressive Illusions Records. In the time since then, the band has released a cover of the Venom classic “Countess Bathory” and also released a timely Christmas-themed single entitled “Ode to Krampus”.
However, the band has dropped their first single since “Sworn to Avenge”. Entitled “Hoarfrost”, the track is off from their forthcoming third record, which is currently in production and planned for release in late 2022.
Listen to “Hoarfrost” at the following link – https://youtu.be/ocBq_coViB8
Artach’s process is a collaborative one between the duo, the genesis of the songs are arranged on guitar by Sruthán and very roughly recorded at home. After getting together, they record drums and flesh out the song in an afternoon and by then the song is pretty much ready for the studio recording of guitars, then bass, and lastly vocals.
Artach is recommended listening for anyone interested in raw black metal and those with an interest in Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, and Satyricon.
Their latest album “Sworn to Avenge” is available via Depressive Illusions Records at the following links: DepressiveIllusions.com, Artach.bandcamp.com, Amazon, Spotify.

Out Now! Rockshots Records – Finnish Rockers SERPICO’s New Album “The Chosen Four”

Finnish rockers Serpico are proud to release their latest album “The Chosen Four” this July 1st, 2022via Rockshots Records. The album was produced by platinum-selling Finnish record producer Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Hanna Pakarinen, Teräsbetoni).
“Warmth of full analog sound is the key word on this particular record. There are many things you have been missing out on in music and in the listening experience, I think. We hope fans will pay full attention to the album and go along with the music. I must say there is no way back from the world of analog recording once you step into it. This is the way we are going to do it from this moment on.” adds vocalist Vee Dour.
“People will definitely notice its high quality in songs, production, the sound & versatility if comparing to nowadays, dull sound world n’ song arrangements. Also, there’s a big difference when doing it all by full analog session, which we did. So, it’s gonna stand out pretty easily from the masses, I think. Although I hope so.” also adds drummer Jani Serpico.
