Obscene Extreme America has announced more bands to this year’s line up of extreme music in Montreal, QC from August 20-23.
Announced this week are:
HEADBANG ‘TIL YOUR NECK SNAP WITH ‘90S DEATH METAL PIONEERS!!! IMMOLATION!!!
This band don’t need any introduction. They have been innovating in the death metal scene since 1986 with their dueling dissonant guitar harmonies creating a unique dark & devastating atmosphere. Only a big pile of ash will be remaining of the crowd after NYDM`s own IMMOLATION shreds their ears while mastering the art of death metal.

Since 2011 these small town renegades have been touring the hell out of any weekend that comes their way. In 2014 the band played over 130 shows across Canada. The band’s name is an homage to the film ‘Slapshot’ where the Hanson Brother put foil on their fists to do more damage during fights in the hockey themed movie. Puttin’ On The Foil plans to do the same with their upcoming sophomore release, ‘Fired Up, Ready To Roll’.

The band is a three piece consisting of Trayne Rekk on Bass/Vocals/Stupidity, TimTim plucking Guitar/Vocals and Jordan Stubbs on Drums. Rarely sober the band’s infectious music invites even the most conservative wall flower to act stupid. One would expect the band to have influences like KISS, SLAYER, and Iron Maiden, but Trayne blames Hank Willams Jr. for much of his blue collar topics.
Puttin’On The Foil’s signature sound starts with Hank Williams, toss in some Ramones, thickened with Motorhead, and a dash of Nashville Pussy gives it that good time feel. About:
Wacken Metal Battle Canada is part of an international competition where band’s from across the country in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City will battle each other for one to be selected and join over 30 other countries for an international battle of the bands at the world’s largest outdoor metal festival Wacken Open Air, which has been taking place in Wacken , Germany for the last 25 years. Toronto’s Crimson Shadows (2013 winners – video at Wacken) and Montreal’s Mutank (2014 winners – video at Wacken) have had that honour playing in front of thousands. This year’s festival will be taking place from July 30th to August 1st.
How it works:
Each city will hold their qualifying rounds plus city finals from the months of January to May 2015 selecting the top band to move forward to the national finals in Toronto, ON in June (date to be determined) with one being selected to perform at the 26th edition of Wacken Open Air taking place from July 30th to August 1st. All bands will be judged during battle rounds by respected local music industry.
The finalists will be selected as follows.
1 finalist from BC (Vancouver & Victoria will face off)
1 finalist from Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton will face off)
2 finalists from Toronto, ON
1 finalist from Quebec (Montreal & Quebec City will face off)
1 finalist from Ottawa, ON
1 finalist from Saskatoon or Winnipeg (Saskatoon and Winnipeg will face off)
