Calgary’s Osyron has a new album on the way, the explosive and thought-provoking “Foundations” releasing on July 10, 2020 via SAOL/The Orchard.

According to the band “Foundations” is meant to be digested as an immersive exploration of Canadian history and identity, speaking on topics on the country’s colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country’s participation in global warfare. Although it is not a conceptual release, it does bear a consistent theme across nearly the entirety of the record.

The band notes that this is the first album where each band member has contributed to the writing processes, which has resulted in a stronger, more refined production overall. Osyron shares their expectations for the album’s reception:

“We believe that the album will both surprise and challenge our current and new fans while still bringing back the big elements we are most known for (hooks, huge layered sections, melodies, and finger-twisting riffs, etc). We would like to think that our fans would accept this as not only the next iteration and evolution of us as a band but also as the artistic progression of the music.”

Osyron brings their high energy, fun, and engaging production to the small screen with the video for “Ignite”, which recounts Canada’s role in WWI, told from both the perspectives of Canada and the UK.

For fans of Nightwish, Dream Theater, and Wintersun; Osyron is progressive, powerful metal with a knack for engaging storytelling.

About:
Osyron is a symphonic metal band based in Calgary, Alberta. The group consists of vocalist Reed, guitarists Krzysztof Stalmach and Bobby Harley, bassist Tyler Corbett, and drummer Cody Anstey. Bridging the gap between traditional European metal and the music of their homegrown contemporaries, Osyron has a sound all their own.

The band’s origins can be traced back to Ontario, where they began under the name Morbid Theory. After releasing two demos (Chaos Breed in 2006 and Harbinger in 2010), the band underwent some changes in membership, scenery, and identity. Moving to Alberta in 2012, the group, now rechristened Osyron, re-recorded Harbinger in Calgary, and released the album in 2013.

After releasing their sophomore album, “Kingsbane”, in the fall of 2017, the momentum that followed was swift. “Kingsbane” caught the attention of the European metal community – proving a favourite of audiences, critics, and radio programmers.

In 2018, Osyron released a metal cover of the Canadian national anthem, which picked up speed across the country. This patriotic theme continues into the new album “Foundations” (2020). Stemming from a perspective of Canadian identity and culture – both past and present, the new album challenges the global perspective of the great white north by retelling historical moments in an immersive and melodic manner. Speaking on topics of Canada’s colonization to the mistreatment and recognition of Aboriginals to the country’s participation in global warfare.

Performing alongside numerous major acts such as Norther, Protest The Hero, Into Eternity, Threat Signal, and The Agonist, Osyron’s next goal is to take their sound across the Atlantic in the flesh.

”Foundations” is due out July 10, 2020, and will be available on all major digital platforms.

Rockshots Records: Ecuador’s BLACK SUN Release Single ‘Still Alive’ ft. Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), Lordi, Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast) and more!

New EP “Silent Enemy” Out Summer 2020

EP guests include members from Sonata Arctica, Lordi, Battle Beast,
Thunderstone, Smackbound, Omnium Gatherum, Wintersun, Damnation Plan,
Arion, Firewind, Ensiferum, Norther, JF Aguirre Project

Well known in their home country of Ecuador and South America for supporting bands like Judas Priest, Kreator, Firewind (Immortals Tour 2018), Edguy, UDO, and more. Rockshots Records is proud to announce their latest signing of heavy metal trio Black Sun for the release of their new EP “Silent Enemy” due out Summer 2020. The EP follows the band’s three previous albums “The Pupetteer” (2017), “Dance of Elders” (2010), and “Tyrant From a Foreign Land” (2015).

During the production of Black Sun‘s new material, the band parted ways with their longtime lead singer. Under the guidance of the EP’s producer Nino Laurenne (Emma Winner – Finnish Grammy, Hevisaurus, Amorphis, The Rasmus), Black Sun found ways to complete the EP with guest singers on all the tracks. Guests include Finnish metal legends and talents like Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), Lordi, Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast), Pasi Rantanen (Thunderstone), Elias Viljanen (Sonata Arctica ), Netta Laurenne (Smackbound), Jukka Pelkonen (Omnium Gatherum), Asim Searah (Wintersun/Damnation Plan), Topias Kupiainen (Arion), Henning Basse (Firewind), Petri Lindroos (Ensiferum / Norther) and JF Aguirre (JF Aguirre Project). All come together to create a powerful and catchy metal hymn.

The band adds:
“This EP is a new beginning for Black Sun, the tracks were written during the touring period for the last album. However, during the production and recording sessions, the former singer was removed from the band. Consequently, the songs changed, the band had more flexibility and freedom on where to take these songs. Hence, the featuring of many different singers is what makes this EP unique. We can’t tell you exactly what will happen next, but we can guarantee this is only the beginning of an exciting new chapter, a rebirth that will bring much more music soon enough.”

Today, the band reveals the first single ‘Still Alive’, which marks a new era and a clean slate for the South American rockers. It’s the perfect soundtrack to what the band has endured and prevailed during its recording. The song features guest vocals by Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), Lordi, Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast), Pasi Rantanen (Thunderstone), Elias Viljanen (Sonata Arctica ), Netta Laurenne (Smackbound), Jukka Pelkonen (Omnium Gatherum) and Asim Searah (Wintersun/Damnation Plan).

The band comments:

“The light at the end of the tunnel. This is a melodic, powerful, and catchy metal hymn that features an array of multi-vocal performance by astonishing singers. It holds the final message that reveals the meaning of the whole concept of the EP.”

The EP “Silent Enemy” is a concept release of seven tracks, three of them being special music scores (intro, interlude, outro). The EP will also have a special short-film based on its storyline out on its release day that was written by Black Sun and Topias Kupiainen.

The EP was recorded at Hi NoiZ Studios and Sonic Pump Studios, mixed by Jens Bogren (tracks 2 and 3) and Nino Laurenne (tracks 1,4-7) and mastered by Svante Forsbäck.

Since the band’s creation in 2002, “Silent Enemy” is their first release without a lead vocalist to follow their three previous full-lengths. Their 2005 debut release “Tyrant From a Foreign Land” hit the Top 25 best-selling albums in their home country that year. Following that success, Black Sun toured the country while becoming a local sensation.

For their sophomore release “Dance of Elders”, the band decided to cross the Atlantic in 2007 and record in Hamburg, Germany at High Gain Records, a studio owned by Kai Hansen of Gamma Ray at the time. The album was produced by Arne Lackenmacher and Drik Schlächter. After recording the album, the band underwent several lineup changes, which led to the delay of its release until 2010. During this time and to support the second album, the band formed an interim lineup with past members and techs until a final lineup was settled with Santiago Salem (bass) joining the band.Their 2017 album, “The Puppeteer”, was recorded in Helsinki, Finland with a producing team of Timo Tolkki, Santtu Lehtiniemi, and Nino Laurenne at Sonic Pump Studios along with mixing done by Miko Karmila and mastering by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios. The release witnessed great success with singles ‘Robert The Doll‘ featured on the New Metal Tracks editorial by Spotify along with winning an MBN (MIS BANDAS NACIONALES) Ecuador Award for Best Music Video and ‘Let Me Be’ landing a top 40 spot (#36) on the Ecuadorian music charts (radio + streams).

BIO:

Hailing from Alma Québec, Trollwar combine the best elements of folk, melodic death and black metal into something vital, potent and uniquely their own. Building on the foundations created by the likes of Finntroll and Amon Amarth they forge fiery folky metal that is unique and complex.

Since starting their quest in 2011, they have leveled past their folk roots and have taken a darker, more powerful path becoming more versatile and utilizing more inspiration from bands such as Wintersun and Luca Turilli. The symphonic and power metal elements continue to shine amongst the harshness of the folk and black metal with themes pulled from the works of Tolkien and Lovecraft.

Playing with a myriad of heavy hitters such as Kalmah, Alestorm and Arkona and with an inventory of well-received releases: ‘Bloodshed Forges’ EP (2011); ‘Earthdawn Groves’ LP (2013); and ‘The Traveler’s Path’ EP (2017); Trollwar are working mightily to forge a new LP ‘Oath of the Storm’ for 2018, that will feature their trademark ‘symphony, brutality, darkness, ambiance, and power!’.

“The whole record is an adventure; the sequencing flows well from song to song and is bumpered nicely by an intro that sets the mood, plus an outro that gently brings things to a close, returning the listener safely back to their respective realities. At the end of the day, I definitely think Trollwar is onto something here; they are proudly waving the folk-metal banner and are destined for big things.”

”The vocals are abrasively savage, and the swirling keyboard melody is like ear heroin. I can’t help myself — the song pushes too many buttons for me to resist.” – No Clean Singing

“OATH OF THE STORM has a wave of well-written catchy songs, good production, lots of intensity and power as well, which is something some of the other bands lack. TrollWar is a pretty appropriate name for this enjoyable act and OATH OF THE STORM is one of the more intense Folk Metal albums out this year.” – Metal Rules

“All the songs on this LP are FAR better than anything else I have heard from the band.” – Butterflyman

”the tracks are face smashing and memorable with enough layers to satisfy even the most tech savvy of you folksters”…….”It’s hard to necessarily give you specifics other than multiple layers of instrumentation, blast beats, keys and symphonic touches with shredding guitar and vocals.”- Folk Metal.NL

”Epic, yet down to earth, beautiful yet destructive, these are all things that embody Trollwar” – Two Guys Metal

”The 7-piece band plays a mixture of epic black metal, melodic death metal and folk metal, influenced by the big names of the genre” – Metal Soundscapes

Hailing from Alma Québec, Trollwar combine the best elements of folk, melodic death and black metal into something vital, potent and uniquely their own. Building on the foundations created by the likes of Finntroll and Amon Amarth they forge fiery folky metal that is unique and complex.

A fierce war party of long term friends with a passion for LARP events and festivals, TROLLWAR consists of Steeve Jobin-Fortin (guitar), Yanick Tremblay (drums), Mathieu Chauvette (guitars), Keven Villeneuve (bass), Simon-Pierre Fortin-Leclerc (vocals) and Jonathan Mathieu (accordion).

Eager to etch their mark on the metal scene, their live shows are full of the brutality and energy that each one of them brings to the stage, albeit often times, in close quarters:

“Live, the listener can expect something epic! 6 metalheads banging their head offs and playing the instrument they like the most. Epic breakdowns and melodies, pretty good entertainment in general. It’s harder to move on the stage when you are 6 and you play in small venues, but don’t fool yourself. It won’t keep the energy from being thrown in your face from the stage.”

“discovering this band was an extremely pleasant surprise, and I’m looking forward to when Into the Dying of Time is released so I can share it in full far and wide. Fans of progressive metal, melodeath and any genres along that spectrum would be well served by picking up this EP, and I predict bigger things for Valyria in the near future.  ” – Pure Grain Audio

“It’s power metal AND death metal! This is the best thing.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Full of ‘raise your fist’ type melodies and a solid combo of melody and aggression, Valyria make their mark with Into the Dying of Time.” – Dead Rhetoric

“”Canada. The “Great, white north.” Outside of Strapping Young Lad, not exactly a country known for producing any form of “Extreme Metal.” However, what we have here is quite the surprise. Valyria come to us from Edmonton, Alberta, and what they’re brought with them is an interesting mix of Power Metal, and Melodic Death Metal, in the form of their second release, the E.P. known as “Into the Dying of Time.”” – Overdrive Mag

“Where these guys really excel is in structure and atmosphere. As I said, this track reminds me of something like Rhapsody of Fire, Ensiferum or Wintersun… it definitely has that epic melodeath style sound and you don’t need me to tell you that.”-The Grim Tower

“In wonderful harmony, death metal and power metal meet to create an atmospheric, magical, wondrous and yet face peeling and flesh picking sound that isn’t to be forgotten. Through the seven tracks that are harbored within Into The Dying of Time, Valyria create wondrous atmospheres and soundscapes all while shredding your skin to bone. ” – Cadaver Garden

“I guess it’s needless to say that the bombast and energy blasts from the speakers and that the whole thing is a mesmerizing whirlpool of extreme metal galore. If you like your metal bombasic as fuck, you need this… ” – Merchants of Air

“There is a lifeful force to it that makes me stomp my feet and bang my head.” – Battlehlem

Created by Andrew James of Edmonton, AB’s Eye of Horus and Shotgunner, his new project, one man folk metal band NORTH HAMMER is drawing inspiration from the mighty Quorthon; for Andrew is not so much a one-man band as a one-warrior metal machine. Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s debut album “Stormcaller” recently unleashed on March 16th, 2018.

Inspired by Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, Blind Guardian, “Stormcaller” is a 21st century continuation of the work of Norse bards with its melodic death metal folk riffs.

“Stormcaller has been quite an adventure in itself to record, many aspects of music I had never even attempted before. From the creation of an over-arching narrative to satisfy lyric content, to writing guitar solos and orchestration, I finally have been able to come out with something that I am so excited to share with you! The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.

Teaming up with MetalUnderground.com, NORTH HAMMER is premiering their new video for “Tip of The Spear”http://www.metalunderground.com/news/details.cfm?newsid=139729

Andrew James adds:

“Tip of the Spear is a fight song. The hero heads to a mountain peak rumoured to house an ancient celestial that can provide him with godlike powers that can help him defeat the bestial horde. However, a camp of these foul beasts lay in his path. The hero and his brother’s in arms lead their cavalry to a surprise attack in order to eradicate the menace.”

Album order for NORTH HAMMER’s “Stormcaller” available via Bandcamp here.

“Canadian outfit North Hammer bring Norse folk influences to melodic death metal on their debut album, Stormcaller. The creation of one Andrew James, Stormcaller takes influence from the likes of Amon Amarth: aggressive and powerful, yet jubilant.”

“The hard-charging melodic death metal of this song is itself heroic in its atmosphere, its darting, folk-influenced riffs, galloping rhythms, fiery soloing, and soaring keyboard melodies summoning mythic images of striving and triumph. While its musical antecedents are indeed clearly identifiable, it’s nonetheless a pulse-pounding, heart-swelling track, and one that proves to be very catchy as well.” – No Clean Singing

“Andrew James’ one-man project from Edmonton, North Hammer enters the heavy metal fray with the crushing debut “Stormcaller.” Especially for a first release, this album is intense, heavy and filled with high quality Ensiferum worship riffage. But North Hammer is not just a clone or a tribute, the sound of the band is clearly defined within the first few tracks and continues to develop and surprise throughout the album.” – CROM Metal

““Wanderer” begins with a Bathory-esque chorus in front of tender acoustics to further exploding into melodeath territories. Riffing comes and go in form of a melody that interwines the next segments of the track, which concludes with a great solo and a nice double bass storm. The composition is dynamic and moving enough, thanks to the mix of the Quorthon worship and the swinging melodic death metal influences.” – Toilet Ov Hell

“Metalheads who are down with the likes of Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, and/or Blind Guardian should find something to like here.” – PureGrainAudio

“Before you can gather your senses the battle finishes and leaves you bloody, but grinning from ear to ear. NORTH HAMMER have released a blend of catchy folk, death and black metal which will appeal to fans of various extreme metal. The song writing and musicianship on ‘Stormcaller’ is unquestionable and this is a very promising start for NORTH HAMMER and one I hope they can build on for future releases?” – All About The Rock

“what really stands out in Stormcaller are the riffs. Andrew James pulls of some stellar work here, catchy & exciting with each song standing strongly on its own. The blend of folk melody & heavier death-metal sounds great.” – Games Brains & A Head Banging Life

“North Hammer hit all the right notes with ‘Stormcaller’, a strong and swift record full of great tracks and it leaves you invigorating and ready for anything. A record for axe swinging, mead swilling and blood spilling, ‘Stormcaller’ is one of the most fun and fist pumping records you’ll hear this year.” – The Killchain

“For a debut, this is an outstanding album that is full of ferocity. It is fast and loud. You can imagine the headbanging that would go on at one of their shows.” – Baby Dolls And Razor Blades

“Stormcaller is a great Viking metal record made all the more impressive considering it was largely written and performed by just one man. It may not push the boat out, but fans of Amon Amarth will enjoy it a lot.” – Toby Saunders’ Rad Reviews

Andrew wrote and recorded the guitar, bass, vocals, and orchestration along with drums done by Doug Helcaraxë Nunez for NORTH HAMMER’s forthcoming debut album “Stormcaller” set for release on March 16th, 2018.

Andrew explains the significance of his band’s name.

“The ‘north’ part was a representation of the common theme winter that comes up in metal music, including folk metal. It is also a reference to my native Canada. ‘Hammer’ is a reference to Mjolnir, Thor’s Hammer!”

Inspired by Wintersun, Ensiferum, Amon Amarth, Aether Realm, Blind Guardian, “Stormcaller” is a 21st century continuation of the work of Norse bards with its melodic death metal folk riffs.

“The experience I’m trying to give the listeners is that of a fellow fan. I want people to be euphoric for other bands that mean something to them like Ensiferum, Wintersun and Amon Amarth. To connect personally with my music and realize that I love and worship these bands.” explains Andrew James.

Teaming up with Antichrist Mag, NORTH HAMMER is premiering the third single “Magic Mead”, which can be heard at the following link: http://antichristmagazine.com/song-premiere-north-hammer-magic-mead/

Andrew James comments:

“‘Magic Mead takes us to the lodgings of the hero as he celebrates a glorious victory with his fellow brothers in arms over a distant tyrant king. As the militia feast and drink to their new found glory, a strange and fantastical looking woman catches his attention away from the camp. The magic mead part of it is contributed to his magical encounter with this woman as he follows her further into the night. Hallucinations start to happen and he eventually loses control of himself and passes out. This is the reason I chose to put the more blasty and dark ending to the song.”

While NORTH HAMMER is a studio project at the moment, Andrew James plans to put together a band of top-notch like-minded musicians for touring in Western Canada and beyond.

Andrew James comments:

“‘Wanderer’ is a song where he (a soldier in the ranks of a Viking faction as part of the story concept) takes to the high seas to seek his destiny. Although he had visions of clear depictions of places, he doesn’t really comprehend what his purpose is at this point. And thus, he lies awake endlessly trying to piece the puzzle together. Without a real steadfast idea of where he is going, he navigates by the star’s using his memories from the vision.”
