Set to rattle mosh pits around the globe with their forthcoming album “Think Before You Think” at the end of this November, Canadian demolition thrash crew MUTANK is injecting onto screens their late music video “Bad Magnitude”.

“This is an easy one: there are no lyrics. An ode to thrash, this track is meant for fans to stretch their neck and bang away to the best instrumental you’ve ever heard!” adds the band.

The live clips in the video are taken from MUTANK‘s 2017 cross-Canada tour with Annihilator and Australia’s Mason. The video was filmed and edited by Chalky of Moshriff.com.

Watch “Bad Magnitude” via its premiere on Ghost Cult Magazine HERE.

MUTANK‘s new album “Think Before You Think” will be released on Boonsdale Records on November 29th, 2024, following 2017’s EP “W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T.” and the first taste of new neck-breaking tunes in seven years. Featuring ten volcanic thrash tracks to blaze a new path to jackhammer a pure audio assault. Live favourites such as “Running Reds”, “Abortron”, and “Thrash Primordial” are sure to please die-hard fans for easy repeat listens.

“This is Thrash for Metalheads by Metalheads we evolved from crossover to a more refined thrash band with longer and more intricate songs… The level of seriousness in songwriting is evident in the new album. We want this album to energize people and make them feel the way we do when we listen to some of our favourite artists. This album is the most material we have ever put out! 50 minutes of pure metal across 10 tracks. The songs picked themselves as we kept writing tracks we enjoyed playing.”

With a passion for classic thrash and a desire to play radical riffs, MUTANK made a deservedly big impression on the Canadian metal scene with their debut EP “M.E.C.H METAL” and a performance at Wacken Open Air after being declared champions of the 2014 Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition.

2024 will be a tour de force for MUTANK with the launch of “Think Before You Think”. Fans of D.R.I., Suicidal Tendencies, Havok, Megadeth, Overkill, and Exodus are sure to join them in the circle pit when it releases.

Highlight: #2 – Canadian National Loud Chart – August 2017 – Top 20 Loud (Earshot)

“they play good-natured thrash a la Overkill and Exodus… perfectly serviceable and enjoyable, definitely more effective when they are playing fast.” – Decibel Mag

Metal Injection named MUTANK 1 of 8 Hidden Gems in Canadian Metal You Need To Know

“Based out of (arguably) the metal hub of the nation, Montreal, Mutank are a ferocious and frenzied crossover-thrash band that infect its listener with an ear worm that no amount of Michael Buble ballads can remedy. The 2014 winners of the Wacken Metal Battle Canada contest have churned out consistently crushing thrash riffs for years and have all the tools and check off all the required boxes to make a major play in the global metal market. For first time listeners, check out “Corporate Child” from their 2014 album M.E.C.H. Metal and the pulverizing headbanger “D.E.A.T.H.” from their 2017 EP W.H.A.T.S.T.H.A.T” – Metal Injection

“Montreal punk/thrash crossover act MUTANK has quickly become my favourite new discovery in the world of metal. They’re fast, funny, and equal parts smart and stoopid, with lyrics like “Who do Mu Tank you are?” and a band name that gets likened to a cross between a “mutant” and a “tank”. MUTANK’s music hearkens back to vintage Suicidal Tendencies, D.R.I., or the more metal moments of the Dayglo Abortions or SNFU.” – Georgia Straight

“Killer drumming, awesome bass hooks, great rhythm & furious sounding vocals. It’s a statement of intent from Mutank. That they are not to be underestimated & written off as just another ‘thrash throwback’.” – Games, Brains & A Headbanging Life

“They have a lot of thrashing songs that have abbreviated titles, and they kick some serious ass with their old school music and hardcore attitude.” – The Headbanging Moose

“Mutank have gotten creative with each song on the album, by coming up acronyms to fit the title of the album, they describe their sound as a “T-rex skateboarding down a volcano”. If your a fan of old school Overkill, Megadeath or Exodus or if you just want a fast and thrash album check it out” – Canadian Beats

“Fast riffs, Heavy tempos crazy yelling.. its got all you’ve asked for. A mix of Suicidal Tendencies Punk/Thrash debut, Nuclear Assault fast moshing killer speed assault…a great funny and entertaining mini album for all beer drinkers fans of Tankard and ready to get into the moshpit 100/100.” – The Metal Mag

“grab you battlejack, studs and spandex trousers and feel like you are back in 1985.” – Lords of Metal

New Album “Tales Of A Changing Life Part 2” Out Now!

Brazilian-Canadian guitarist, music teacher, and songwriter with an impressive career in the music industry, Rod Rodrigues presented his latest creation and his first full-length this past October. Entitled “Tales Of A Changing Life Part 2”, is a conceptual album, and is the second part of a story inspired by his move to a new country and starting a new life to follow his 2022 EP “Tales Of A Changing Life Part 1”.

Today, Rodrigues unveils his guitar video for the track “Inukshuk”, which features guest musicians John Macaluso on drums and Angel Vivaldi, who plays the second guitar solo.

“This was the first song I wrote for the album, and it’s the heaviest track. I play it on a 7-string guitar, giving it a modern prog feel with some fusion elements,” adds Rodrigues.

The video can be seen and heard at https://youtu.be/00i4UQ45AGw

Fusing prog rock with Latin rhythms guitar virtuoso Rod Rodrigues has studied with renowned musicians Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) and Greg Howe (Justin Timberlake, Michael Jackson) and has received degrees from IG&T and Claretiano University. Since 1997, he has been sharing his knowledge and skills as a music teacher in Brazil, Canada, and Europe. His e-book Guitar Shred (2016) was released in both languages, Portuguese and English, and in 2018, the guitarist and teacher launched his online training course Extreme Guitar Workout, which has attracted hundreds of students from around the world. Over the years, he has also been a member of various bands, including Enemies of Reality and Falling Into a Dream (a Dream Theater tribute band).

As a solo artist, Rodrigues released his first EP in 2010, titled “The First Step: Introduction”, which gained recognition in several music publications, including Guitar Player, Cover Guitarra, and Guitarload, among others. In 2019, he released his single “T.A.G.” followed by his concept EP, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1” in 2022. Notably, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1” featured the talented Marco Sfogli (James LaBrie, Premiata Forneria Marconi) on the track “Woodbine Sunset”.

Thanks to his outstanding work on “Tales of a Changing Life Part 1”, Rodrigues was voted one of the top 20 Guitar Players of 2022 by the readers of Brazilian Roadie Crew Magazine.

Rod Rodrigues produced his first full-length, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 2”, with mixing by Renato Osório and mastering by Kris Crummett (Nick Johnston, Issues, Sleeping With Sirens). For the album’s guests, Rodrigues recruited guitarists Hugo Mariutti, Angel Vivaldi, and Roy Ziv; bassists Heitor Tenorio and Bruno Ladislau; drummers John Macaluso (ARK, TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen, Riot), Rodrigo Abelha, and Lucas Emidio; as well as Orlan Charles (keyboards, piano, and saxophone), Rodrigo Sperandio (Brazilian viola), and vocalists Wesley Poison, Ana Carla de Carli, Andressa Alves, Caroline Grossi, Matheus Grossi, and Francis Botene.

“With Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, I believe I reached my peak as a musician and composer. Truly able to convey through music all the emotions of the transformation my life has gone through in the past 10 years. Moreover, I was fortunate to have the best team of musicians, each adding their unique and special touch to the work.” adds Rodrigues.

Recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Rush, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Angra, “Tales of a Changing Life Part 2” was released on October 18, 2024, and is available at the following links:

“Rod Rodrigues’ upcoming release, Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, represents more than just a continuation of his musical journey—it’s a deeply personal reflection of the changes he’s experienced over the past decade. After a 12-year hiatus from releasing solo work, Rodrigues returns with an instrumental album that captures a rollercoaster of emotions through complex compositions and masterful collaborations. His ability to mix diverse musical influences is evident throughout, weaving together personal experiences, Brazilian rhythms, and progressive rock.” – Prog-Sphere (2024)

“In Tales of a Changing Life Part 2, Rodrigues not only showcases his technical virtuosity but also his ability to convey deep emotion and narrative through his compositions. His work stands as a shining example of how diverse musical influences can be melded into something both experimental and accessible. This is an album that takes listeners on a transformative journey, and in doing so, solidifies Rod Rodrigues as a unique voice in contemporary progressive music.” – Prog Archy (2024)

“Following closely the work of legendary drummer John Macaluso already brought great discoveries to my proggy table, and Rod Rodrigues’ new album makes no exception here. In best instrumental prog fusion manner, he tells the “Tales of a Changing Life” with the focus on his virtuoso guitar playing, carried by challenging yet groovy rhythm patterns, cool bass lines, and some beautiful keyboard interplays. All-together a wonderful listen if you’re into instrumental wizardry. ” – The Prog Space (2024)

“Obviously, much of the spotlight here is placed on Rodrigues’ prodigious grasp of the electric guitar. Although the album’s metal-ish side doesn’t stand any bit above what we’ve already heard from that corner of prog metal, Rod makes himself out to be an absolutely brilliant fusion guitarist, possibly one of the best I’ve heard in recent years. “Dust in My Eyes” might be my favorite track on the album for this very reason; Rod’s marriage of keen instrumental wandering and tight melodic passages is gorgeous.”- Riffage (2024

“Guitar virtuoso Rod Rodrigues latest release ‘Tales of a Changing Life is a conceptual record celebrating the changes in Rod’s life that have taken place over recent years. Straight from the Satriani-Vai-Johnson line of melodic guitar shredders, Rodrigues infuses his guitar playing style with prog, metal, fusion and jazz. While only a 5 song EP, there is a lot of great guitar work in this collection with an abundance of melodies. Perhaps not as much of a household name, Rodrigues is definitely worth getting to know.” – The Prog Report (2022)

0 HELLFIRE 76 New Video “Rags to Rage” Is A Rip Roaring Rock Title Track Off New Album Out End of Nov 2024

Montreal, QC – November 14, 2024

HELLFIRE 76 New Video “Rags to Rage” Is A Rip Roaring Rock Title Track Off New Album Out End of Nov 2024

North Carolina, USA’s, Southern Metal duo Hellfire 76 has just dropped their rippin’ new video for single “Rags to Rage” the title track from their upcoming first full-length, which hits speakers on November 29th. The song showcases the band’s signature combination of fuzzed-out grooves and occult-themed storytelling, drawing from founding member Von Bury’s New Orleans roots. The band comments on the single:

“Musically, it’s fast and aggressive; lyrically, it’s pretty much an “action/reaction” lyric- each to its own interpretation. Simply put, we wanted a song that kicked down the door right from the start. It’s full of fast grooves with rapid-fire lyrics.”

The two-piece outfit, featuring Von Bury (guitar/bass/organ/vocals) (formerly of the Southern Gothic act LOVESUCKER and the Occult Rock act and Napalm Recording artist BLOODY HAMMERS) and Mike McGuiness (drums) (formerly of the Industrial Metal act FACE THE WORLD), delivers a massive wall of sound that belies their minimal lineup. Recorded in a single take, “Rags to Rage” demonstrates the raw power and precision that has earned Hellfire 76 recognition as one of the heaviest two-piece acts in the local scene.

Looking to branch out further, the act challenges metal and rock fans to indulge with their new music video, which can be seen and heard via its premiere on GhostCultMagazine HERE.

All killer-no filler, this two-piece brings 110% to their album “Rags To Rage”. The overall theme of this record is dark, taboo, spooky, tongue-in-cheek, fuzzed-out southern metal. Von Bury explains further:

“The album RAGS TO RAGE is a continuation of our first release, in that the subject matter is all thought-provoking. As for a lot of music, we want the lyrics to be literal but also open to the listener’s interpretation. Sticking with the theme and ideas of Voodoo, Witchcraft, The Occult, and other oddities. We want to take the listeners on a dark and ominous journey into a place they don’t normally think about.”

For fans of Melvins, Clutch, Killing Joke, and Fu Manchu, “Rags To Rage” is available for album pre-order at https://hellfire76.bandcamp.com.

“Dark, mysterious, foreboding, yet strangely inviting. This is the latest single (The Omen) from HELLFIRE ‘76, a band that brings together the things you love about heavy music: bold, swinging riffs, gruff manic vocals, crunchy chugging rhythms. “The Omen” has got it all going on, which lyrically “is about how religion uses fear to prey on weak minds to do the dirty work.” – Doomed and Stoned

“Drink the concoction prepared by the band, a cocktail of blood riffs, genuine rhythms and distorted vocals that you can find in the dirtiest pubs in New Orleans! Fans of Kyuss, ZZ Top, Killing Joke, The Melvins and Clutch will be thrilled!” – Heavy Mag

“In the radius of bituminous rhythms, nevertheless animated by a Rock energy, we frankly opt more for cousinage with CLUTCH, a formation that has always been able to evolve between thickness, melody and conciseness. With, as a bonus, these hints of greasy and oily Blues which inject a kind of groove and sap within a Metal which should not silence or ignore its affinities with the severe and groovy Metal proper to Pantera.” – Integral Metal

“Hellfire 76 comes at you hard and heavy and without mercy.” – Doomed Nation

“Hellfire 76, A duo devoted to rampaging Stoner-Doom-Psych-Metal, which swings to dense blues licks that suggest a Triceratops mating with a Sherman Tank!” – Q C Nerve

The Hellfire 76 use the masks of voodoo, witchcraft, the occult and tarot cards to tell us stories of how Evil has taken over our world, ruled by liars, impostors and careerists. People are flooded with a river of lies, perpetrated by governments and the Church, which obscure our view of the Truth.” – Progressive Rock Journal

Canadian Proggers THE WRING Showcases Riffs and Fingerwork On New Guitar Video “Blur”

New Album “Nemesis” Out Now! via WormHoleDeath Records

The Wring – Album Lineup – L-R – Kyle Brian Abbott – Drums, Don Dewulf – Guitars, Reggie Hache – Bass, Vocals & Keyboards

Canadian proggers The Wring released their much-anticipated fourth studio album “Nemesis” this past September. This album marks a significant step in the band’s journey, showcasing a more cohesive and refined sound that blends their heavy rock roots with progressive and jazz influences. With eight tracks spanning just over 40 minutes, “Nemesis” adds a new, technical twist to progressive metal.

Today, Guitarist Don Dewulf shares his latest video for the instrumental track “Blur” via its premiere on V13.net HERE.

“Frank Zappa once said: “lyrics (in his songs) wouldn’t exist at all if it weren’t for the fact that we live in a society where instrumental music is irrelevant”. As someone who appreciates all forms of very progressive music, but also values Frank’s sentiments, if I am going to create an instrumental, it had better be short and interesting. For me, YYZ is the gold standard with La Villa being a stretched-out older cousin. I like to think Blur checks a few of those boxes and that people will enjoy what it has to say.” adds Dewulf.

The Wring‘s new album “Nemesis” explores themes of external and internal conflict, with each song representing a different facet of our struggles. From the driving intensity of tracks like “Badlands” and “The Sword” to the melodic intricacy of “The Nail” and “Before I Disappear”, the album is a dynamic journey through the band’s musical and lyrical vision. Reggie Hache’s expanded role on vocals, bass, and keyboards brings a new depth to The Wring’s sound, while Dewulf’s guitar work continues to anchor the band’s heavy yet nuanced approach.

Throughout “Nemesis,” the playing is tight, precise, and yet still free-flowing. Each instrument complements the others and often provides a steady hand while the other players move in different directions.

Guitarist Don Dewulf comments:

“Thematically, Nemesis speaks to conflict of all sorts. Musically, there is a similar conflict of musical styles. The central idea of every Wring album is to combine many genres in a single song, so while nothing is new, hopefully, the combination can seem fresh or different. For many listeners, even the most dedicated, certain musical stylings are an onerous listen – jazz, prog, even classical. The idea of Nemesis is to give the listener a way to enjoy odd times, peculiar harmony, and aggressive riffs without having to give up their soul to do it. The backbone of every song is firmly rooted in traditional hard rock so there is always something to grab onto.”

Enjoy “Nemesis” as a metal album, a prog album, a rock album, or even a pseudo-jazz affair; it’s all of those things. It is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.

“Nemesis” was released on September 27, 2024, via Wormholedeath Records, with distribution by Aural/Orchard.

“Prog’s Tracks Of The Week (Aug 16)” – The Sword – The Wring – Prog Magazine

“There is a distinct, and quite energetic, 90s prog feel to Nemesis, reminiscent of bands such as Watchtower and Galactic Cowboys. The songs are loaded with intricate drumming, rock-solid bass playing, and great riffs and solos. Hache’s vocals may not work for everyone but they do for me, making this a super addition to any prog fan’s catalog. 4/5” – Heavy Music HQ

“A lesson in classic and modern prog metal! Had Doug Pinnick and Jim Matheos come together for a joint project in the late 80’s, throwing together the progressive list of one with the groovy cornerstones of the other background band, wouldn’t it be so unlikely that the fantastic output wouldn’t stray too far from the Canadians at THE WRING in terms of sound. The band has already released three notable records in the past and has also attracted international attention with “Spectra” (2022)… THE WRING has already created some exciting moments on “Spectra”; However, “Nemesis” is finally the Champions League format that a trio with such advantages would actually have belonged in from the start. 9/10″ – PowerMetal.de

“Heads up prog-metal fans! Canada’s The Wring have a hot new number with “The Sword” and it’s not messin’ around. An early peak from their forthcoming album “Nemesis” due to drop on Sept. 27th, “The Sword” is complex with high power riffs, solos, a double kick throughout and soaring vocals that makesfor a beast of a track. Catch “The Sword” from The Wring on your Home for the Best New Rock…W-J-O-EEEE” – WJOE – Findlay’s Home for Rock & Roll

“This album marks a significant step in the band’s journey, showcasing a more cohesive and refined sound that blends their heavy rock roots with progressive and jazz influences. With eight tracks spanning just over 40 minutes, “Nemesis” adds a new, technical twist to progressive metal. – The Prog Space

“recommended to every fan of technically perfect, slightly metallic prog rock, great bass lines” – Betreutes Proggen

“The hard prog songs are powerful and impress in their arrangements. 8/10” – Soundmagnet

“9 years and 4 albums into this band’s career have helped create some astonishing prog metal. It can get as catchy as hard rock radio, it can get as adventurous as jazz metal, and everything in between. I hear as much from bands like Watchtower as I hear as proggier sides of Between The Buried and Me and Cynic. There’s a dark sense of curiosity going on throughout the album that keeps it intriguing. If this sounds like it could be for you (keeping in mind it is all clean vocals), this is more than worth your time. It’s mesmerizing music written without being too wanky and written for the sake of fretboard Olympics, this is authentic. Seriously, give it a spin if you need some throwback but modern prog metal in your life.” – Heavy Debriefings

“The Wring strikes me as a band that explore a variety of progressive rock with a similar attitude as Rush in many ways, but making use of more contemporary impulses as they traverse the landscapes they explore. And I’d hazard a bet that many of the people that find that description interesting will find this album to be an enjoyable one.” – Progressor

0 Halifax’s TURBO Get Down and Gritty With No Money! In New Music Video “Broke & Ugly”

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – October 11, 2024

Halifax’s TURBO Get Down and Gritty With No Money! In New Music Video “Broke & Ugly”

Band life is always a truth of being broke as f*ck and playing for the fun and the road. Halifax, Canada’s Turbo embraces this reality with their latest music video “Broke & Ugly”, the title track of their latest album released this past July.

With a slim budget, and a trailer as their jam space, Turbo has effectively proved they are truly “Broke & Ugly”. The band comments on the song:

“The title track of the album was written in a period of hard times, financially speaking. Since this is more or less the general state of being for Evan in particular, who else would be better suited to lyrically immortalize this mindset? It’s catchy, it’s boppy, it’s snarky, and it has our favourite chorus on the album: “Got no money, and STILL fuckin’ ugly”! An anthem we hope at least SOMEBODY out there will relate to.”

Watch the music video for “Broke & Ugly” – https://youtu.be/i_nKMUR2BSk

Known for their gritty, in-your-face sound, Turbo has once again delivered a raw and powerful collection of tracks that will leave listeners begging for more on their sophomore album “Broke & Ugly”. Like your disheveled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, and sick of your shit, bringing an intensity and energy that is unmatched in today’s music scene. They comment on the release:

“‘Broke and Ugly’ is our second testament to the ups and downs of the rock-and-roll lifestyle, and it comes in swingin’ HARD. The music is raw, greasy, and mean; but it’s also tight, coordinated, and flashy. The lyrics are defiant and visceral, painting a real picture of where Evan’s mind was during the writing process of the album. Themes go from party anthems to drugs, to women of flings-past, to life on the road, and back again. It’s edgy, it’s real, and it’s undeniably Turbo.”

Turbo was created with a singular vision: to create something bigger, badder, and unapologetically aggressive. Evan Frizzle (vocals/guitar), Sylvain Coderre (drums), Lindsey Dicks (guitar), and Henry MacDonald (bass) have poured their hearts and souls into this album, crafting a unique sound that blends thrash, NWOBHM, glam metal, punk rock, and hardcore. The result is an original, aggressive, and varied listening experience that grabs you by the cojones and doesn’t let go.

The album artwork for “Broke & Ugly” was created by a good friend of the band Tim Murray, and perfectly captures the essence of the band’s raw and unfiltered style. The cover depicts a dive-bar nightmare bathroom, filled with Easter eggs from Turbo‘s previous songs and a green hand grabbing for some shit-tickets from a busted-ass urinal. It’s a fitting visual for an album that promises to be a grimy slab of thrash, sleazy, and louder than anything you’ve heard before. Get ready for Turbo‘s distinct flavor and an absolute slaughter in seven tracks. It is recommended for fans of W.A.S.P., Motorhead, and Judas Priest.

“The cartoon-ish cover art with toxic green/red colors could bring more smiles to the fold – Turbo executing a great crossover sound that stands on the edge of thrash, punk and NWOBHM/heavy metal. Broke & Ugly could be your soundtrack when needing an ideal wind down from your back breaking, seemingly never over work week. 8.5/10” – Dead Rhetoric

“Turbo are fast, they’re crass, and they’re here to kick your ass… As a whole, “Broke & Ugly” is peak speed and thrash metal with a party-hard overtone. But I think the comparison to Motörhead is a little heavy-handed. After listening to the gem of East Coast Canadian metal, I’m fired up to see what Turbo does next. 9/10″ – Metal Temple

“This rocks a lot. The vocalist’s gritty approach delivers surprisingly catchy and memorable vocal melodies, and the occasional backing vocals are often reminiscent of mid-80s “party” metal, very upbeat and singalong-inducing. The guitar work has everything people like in old heavy metal, a rather raw style filled with cool solos and riffs that stick in your head long after they’re over. You’d tell me this was released more than 40 years ago and I would believe you. A fun time from beginning to end. 4/5″ – The Metal Crypt

“”Broke & Ugly” may have been a little tight in terms of playing time, but with the incredible hit rate of one hundred percent, you can forgive that. When punk and thrash still spoke a language, the whole thing sounded like this album. The fact that a band would ever come close to OVERKILL in terms of sound technology says more than enough! Yes! Noisy thrash, melodic punk, classic setup – what a great record! 9/10.” – Power-Metal.de

“entertaining, refreshingly lively, dynamic, far too good to be bad. Massively punching Kick Ass- Heavy Metal n’ Rock n’ Roll on all sides, which hits the eye in a straight line, brutally, snotty, until it hits the chest, where it hurts. Snots, tubes, rocks and rolls straight to the limit! 8/10” – FFM-Rock

“the band is insanely tight, with Frizzle and fellow six stringer Lindsey Dicks really giving it some violence riff wise and soloing like their lives depended on it. Similarly, the rhythm section of Sylvain Coderre (d) and Henry MacDonald take no prisoners and submit to no-one in their ability to hold things together at high velocity. Very impressive. As we get deeper into the twenty first century, bands are running out of ways to repackage, remake and remodel, so the freshness with which Turbo approach the task in hand has to be applauded. This is fun to listen to – and it certainly sounds like the band had fun getting the album down, and sometimes a bit of joie de vivre is all any of us need. But when you are able to mix that in with a killer technique and a sharp ear for a metal tune well, good times await!” – Sentinel Daily

“Canada’s Turbo label their music Nitro-Rock; On the evidence of the submitted album, Broke & Ugly, it would seem that Nitro rock is in fact an almighty mashup of styles, all rendered at high speed and with little regard for personal danger (in my day we used to call that Crossover-Ed). If that description excites you, then the album is going to send you into paroxysms of joy…” – Sentinel Daily

“Turbo’s second full length album is the equivalent of getting into a newly juiced up hotrod, the roof reeled back in, as you’re flooring it down the highway until your smoke trails combust. From start to finish, Turbo live up to their name in droves and then some with energy that cannot be denied and a plethora of tracks that offer much to be remembered. Though boasting a full nine tracks, Broke & Ugly doesn’t even eclipse a full half hour and therefore opens itself up for numerous relistens. It starts up, gets you in the mood to kick some butt, yet doesn’t attempt to overstay its welcome to any degree. For me personally, this style of speed metal can be a vast hit or miss but I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this record, and during its duration I was brought on board with Turbo’s infectious power. Furthermore, I’d wish to visit their first record, and am excited to see what they do for a third, prospective release; I merely hope it’s not another four years because this is really good, fun material that anyone can get behind. A refreshing break from crushing, defeating extreme metal is sometimes needed, and Turbo are one fine cocktail.” – The Razor’s Edge

“Turbo is a band that gives me associations to two very different bands and the earlier stages of both of those bands output, and that is Turbonegro and Iron Maiden respectively. If you can imagine the early death punk of the former combined with certain aspects of the Di’Anno era of the latter combined into a whole, you probably won’t be too far off from the kind of landscapes explored by Canadians Turbo. And chances are good that you’ll find this tight and uptempo album to be a rewarding experience if that description comes across as tantalizing.” – The Viking in the Wilderness

“this album is just the perfect encapsulation of fun” – Brutally Delicious

Emerging metal act Heteromorphic Zoo, from Victoria, BC, Canada, is set to captivate audiences with their debut EP “New World”, produced by Chris Wiseman (Shadow of Intent, Currents) plus mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy). Coinciding with the EP launch, the band has unveiled the music video for their single “Ritual of Fidelity”, which they comment on:

“This song is about an ancient power awakening within a great tomb, filled with monsters. The leaders declare their loyalty (or fidelity) to the overlord. Musically, the actual “ritual of fidelity” takes place in the middle of the song. It’s a classical 3-voice fugue between the violin, lead guitar, and rhythm guitars + bass with a subject, tonal response, 2 counter subjects, and everything. Of course, it’s not a pure fugue since other instruments are also playing, but that’s the skeleton of it, and the callback to an old baroque form brings out the ritualistic nature of the song.”

“Ritual of Fidelity”
has a memorable lead guitar melody during its chorus, chuggy yet melodic verse riffs, and an overall more neoclassical sound. The violin is fairly subdued and in the background until the moment of the ritual fugue, since that moment is meant to introduce it to the listener for the first time.

Born from a desire to create “Worship Music for Monsters”, Heteromorphic Zoo‘s five-track EP showcases a diverse and extreme sound that pushes the boundaries of modern metal. Lyrically, “New World” tells the story of a grand alliance of monstrous beings invading a new realm, with perspectives shifting between the monsters, their overlord, and their enemies. The band’s innovative approach combines groove and melody, intricate riffs, and powerful breakdowns, resulting in a sonic experience that defies easy categorization. They are recommended for fans of In Flames, Within the Ruins, and Ne Obliviscaris.

““Napalm” is indeed fiery, but at its core it’s a jackhammer fest that will loosen your teeth and disjoint your spine, accompanied by utterly deranged vocals that sound like a fight between bull elephants, howler monkeys, and a pack of demons that just escaped Hell. Oh, but there’s more! Exotic melodies spin through all the bombs dropping and the jackhammers busting up granite, and a violin takes the exultant soloing role, elevating the music to head-spinning glory.” – No Clean Singing

Fans of speedy rock n’ roll get ready to jump into the spinning turbines of LA’s Gigantum and their ode to punk rock with their latest music video “Rock Box”. The track amps up to 100mph for a swift kick in your ass to get your blood pumping. The song is featured on the band’s recently released self-titled debut album, which ranges from straight-up rock to doomy stoner riffs to creative solos, and relatable lyrics. Not held back by the structure of a certain genre, Gigantum has a lot of room to evolve and they set into that role with gusto.

“Each song tells its own story and takes you someplace different. They have their own personality. The record’s listening experience takes you on a journey. We are trying to shake the foundation and rattle the windows.” adds the band.

The video for “Rock Box” can be seen and heard via its premiere on New Noise Magazine HERE.

Gigantum‘s debut album is a true collaboration, and each track offers a distinct experience, taking listeners on a sonic journey as they explore each individual personal of the tracks. The EP is now available on all major streaming platforms and is recommended for fans of Clutch, Baroness, Royal Thunder, and Fu Manchu.

“It’s wide ranging heavy music odyssey that spans six hefty heavy rock tracks on ‘Gigantum’ (2024)” – Doomed & Stoned

“Gigantum have released a no-hold barred “NO FUCKS GIVEN” attitude that will no doubt strike a chord with the jaded Doom/Stoner Metal fan currently out there. Excellent and Highly Recommended.” – Outlaws of the Sun

“With a flair for the dramatic, Gigantum has a no-nonsense approach to writing and riffing, yet remains free of pretension that fouls up a lot of modern bands with retro influences. This is only the beginning for this band! Jam out Gigantum to 11 and burn one right now!” – Ghost Cult Magazine

“Gigantum’ is an impressive debut that showcases the band’s ability to traverse different musical territories while maintaining a cohesive and powerful sound. With each track telling its own story, GIGANTUM crafts a listening experience that is both diverse and deeply rooted in heavy rock tradition. This album is a must-listen for fans of bands like Black Sabbath, Clutch, and Fu Manchu who crave a mix of crushing riffs, heavy grooves, and dynamic vocals.8.5/10” – Infrared Magazine

“If you can imagine a slightly more psychedelic variety of classic era Black Sabbath that has been given a little bit of a punk attitude and expression then you should have a fair general idea of what to expect from this album. An album I suspect quite a few who tend to enjoy vintage era doom metal might find to be an interesting experience.” – Viking in the Wilderness

“That sort of plot is perfect for a stoner jam like “Necron99,” the closer to their self-titled debut album. There’s a good deal of jamming going on in this album” – Heavy Music HQ

“the group from Los Angeles chooses many unconventional methods and also reveals exciting things here.” – PowerMetal.de

“All experienced musicians, this is the work of a fully-fledged group that is ready for anything.

But as for “Monkey King,” for all its doom-laden, Sabbath jamming on Fu Manchu chic, it’s a band that will do things on its own terms. Mia X is capable of whipping up a frenzy, and “For All My Friends” has something truly unsettling about it. If the album as a whole feels like heavy psych and melody are engaged in a battle to the death, then never is that better shown than on the fabulous “Forever Dreaming.”… with this self-titled statement, Gigantum are laying down a big marker. 8/10″ – Maximum Volume Music

” an energetic hard rock record with a couple of very good doom songs. Recommended.” – Flying Fiddle Sticks

0 THE WRING Latest Single “The Nail” Is A New Blend Of Aggression And Prog Metal Off New Album “Nemesis” Out Sept 2024

Montreal, QC – September 5, 2024

Canada’s THE WRING Latest Single “The Nail” Is A New Blend Of Aggression And Prog Metal

New Album “Nemesis” Out Sept 27th, 2024 via WormHoleDeath Records

The Wring – Album Lineup – L-R – Kyle Brian Abbott – Drums, Don Dewulf – Guitars, Reggie Hache – Bass, Vocals & Keyboards

Sudbury, Canada’s The Wring continues to build anticipation for their upcoming album “Nemesis” with the release of their new single “The Nail”. This track is a hard-hitting showcase of the band’s ability to blend heavy rock with progressive influences, delivering a sound that is both aggressive and intricate. “The Nail” features a compelling mix of rhythmic complexity and melodic intensity, as guitarist Don Dewulf comments:

“When there is no baseball or hockey on TV, I will flip to the MUCH LOUD video channel where they play anything that has a guitar in it (rare these days, as I do not count what Taylor Swift does as ‘playing guitar’). I stumbled on a song by The Offspring called Behind Your Walls of Pain. For some reason, that song stuck with me. Once I broke it down, it was the i-vi—iv progression that I found interesting. This is uncommon without the V chord. I twisted it up for the chorus and added a bunch of different parts to make the song. Lyrically, there is no disguising my disdain for the unprecedented lack of decency, honesty, and respect in the world right now.”

“The Nail” delves into themes of perseverance and struggle, a recurring motif in the band’s work. The track’s driving rhythm, punctuated by Dewulf’s razor-sharp guitar work and Abbott’s thunderous drumming, provides the perfect backdrop for Hache’s evocative vocals and bass lines. The song’s structure, which oscillates between intense heaviness and intricate melodic passages, keeps listeners on the edge, reflecting the tension and release inherent in the song’s message.

Watch and listen to the music video for “The Nail” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

“Nemesis” will be released on September 27, 2024, via Wormholedeath, with distribution by Aural/Orchard, it is recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Opeth, and Porcupine Tree.

“Prog’s Tracks Of The Week – Aug 16, 2024 – The Wring – The Sword” – Prog Magazine

What the press has said about The Wring:

“Here’s one for prog dorks. This outfit’s third outing (Spectra) features drums by Marco Minnemann so you know the rhythms are mad. The regulars in the band ain’t slouches either though. This is intricate and melodic prog done well.” – Metal Injection (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“A band composed of top artists from the world prog scene, each of whom brings their own style to the band’s sound. Technique and energy, melodic passages, dynamic and expressive vocals and elaborate instrumental sections characterise the album. A recommended listen for all lovers of Progressive Metal sounds, an album to listen to again and again, always managing to give us positive emotions.” – Progressive Rock Journal (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“Tired of prog metal bands who fire away odd rhythms, fast solos and complex arrangements? Half of them trying to sound like Dream Theater but all failing completely? Look no further. The Wring from Canada offers great musicians who find their own way through the prog metal jungle. I said great musicians and I really stand for that. Or how about Marco Minneman (drums), Chandler Mogel (vocals), Don Dewulf (guitars), Reggie Hache (bass, keyboards) and Isamu McGregor (keyboards)”… Sometimes they are a bit more commercial, like in the first song ”Stiletto”, reminding me a lot of Threshold. Other songs bring a bombastic wall of sound, with riffs do die for – ”The Wolf” is a great example. The early parts of ”Fallen” has some Rush vibes (of the later and more rock base Rush era) and also softer parts Mogel is a very good vocalist, and he can alter his voice a lot. Something of a voice chameleon!” – Melodic.net (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“The opening notes of ‘Sins’ remind me of the opening salvo in Judas Priest’s ‘The Ripper’. Some of the riff structures are also reminiscent of Priest and it’s another great track.” – TheProgSpace (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

“The third album Spectra by the Canadian progressive rock project The Wring is downright infectious with its joy of playing and catchy Hard Prog Rock songs. There really is a lot of light and very little shadow here.” – Soundmagnet (The Wring – Spectra – 2022)

““Wring² Project Cipher comes with a heavy, classic rock feel, but there’s an epic, questing nature to tunes like Sorceress, Steelier and Dose that pushes The Wring beyond metal norms and into prog territory.” – Prog Magazine (The Wring – Project Cipher 2021)

Supermodel Taxidermy has been delivering unrelenting mosh pit madness since they made their debut in 2022 with the EP “A Whorer Story”. Their first full-length album “At What Cost”, was made to capture your ears with its intense guitar hooks, heavy drums, and catchy bass lines all the while keeping your attention on the lyrical topics at hand. A collaborative effort, the majority of this album looks at death lyrically. A lot of the writings question the cause and effect of vices and the wrong choices that can be made throughout our lives.

“If we have sold this to your ears correctly the album will be nothing shy of D.R.I’s Full Speed Ahead vs Iron Reagan’s Crossover Ministry with a touch of Slayer,” adds vocalist and guitarist Shawn Maynard.

0 VALFREYA Sneak Another Peek At Upcoming Blackened Album “Dawn of Reckoning” With Video For “Le Périple”

VALFREYA Sneak Another Peek At Upcoming Blackened Album “Dawn of Reckoning” With Video For “Le Périple”

Photography by Philippe Quinn – Picture artwork by Corinne Cardinal

Since 2009, Canada’s Valfreya has been honing their sound bringing in elements from black metal, and folk metal with touches of symphonic metal to create powerful music that has been heard around the world. With an impressive five albums already under their belts, they are gearing up for the sixth “Dawn of Reckoning”, coming out on May 24, 2024. A formidable concept album that tells of the goddess Hel striking back at humanity, it is a gritty, aggressive journey into mythology. The band comments on the second single “Le Périple” (“The Journey”), which is being released now in lyric video form:

“This album marks a significant evolution in our sound. While our earlier works leaned heavily on joyful and folkloric elements, “Dawn of Reckoning” takes on a symphonic blackened death metal approach. As for the single, it represents a human’s life: Innocence, discovery, ambition, false ideas, lies… This being slowly realizes that humanity is not virtuous.”

Gone are the days of folk metal and Viking metal. Valfreya invites listeners to embrace dark symphonies intertwined with tumultuous guitar riffs that will leave an indelible mark on their minds. “Dawn of Reckoning” promises to guide audiences through a journey of bitterness, nostalgia, and apocalyptic destruction, all set against a backdrop of cold nature and epic melodies.

Valfreya is a Canadian blackened death symphonic metal band hailing from Montreal. With a diverse discography that spans multiple genres, Valfreya continues to push the boundaries of metal music with its innovative sound and uncompromising vision. They are recommended for fans of Xaon, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Carach Angren.
