SHORT BIO:
Hellnite is a heavy metal project that was founded in 2010 in Mexico City by Paolo Belmar (vocals and guitar) originally playing covers of early influences, heavyweights including Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. In 2011 and 2012 they began experimenting with various sounds and playing local events in their home city and their recognizable, heavy original music in the style of Kreator, Slayer and Death was lapped up by fans. The first EP “Manipulator” was debuted in 2013 and shortly after, the band ultimately dissolved and Belmar moved to Canada. A metal fan from a young age determined to keep his project going, Belmar continued to work on the project in his new home of Edmonton, Canada. Working diligently, he performed all the parts for the second album, “Midnight Terrors” which will be released in February 2019. Dauntlessly carrying on, Hellnite now has a full lineup to play live and has been bringing their music to metalheads across Canada and plans to unleash the third album to compliment “Midnight Terrors” is underway.

LONG BIO:
Hellnite is a heavy metal project that was founded in 2010 in Mexico City by Paolo Belmar (vocals and guitar) with schoolmates Luis Mora (ex-bass) and Mauricio Salas (ex-drums). They originally started off playing covers of their early influences, heavyweights including Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. A year later, they recruited Luiz Guzman (rhythm guitar) to the band and their sound began to narrow into an authentic form that would see them creating heavy original music in the style of Kreator, Slayer and Death. In 2011 and 2012 they began experimenting with various sounds and playing local shows, conventions, festivals and other events in their home city and their recognizable, heavy songs were lapped up by fans. The first EP “Manipulator” was debuted in 2013 and shortly after, Guzman parted ways with the band leaving Hellnite to become a power trio. Writing started for the next release but the band ultimately dissolved not long after and Belmar moved to Canada. A metal fan from a young age, determined to keep his project going, Belmar continued to work on the project in his new home of Edmonton, Canada. Working diligently, he performed all the parts for the second album, “Midnight Terrors” which will be released in February 2019. The full length paranormal and sci-fi themed concept album proves the growth of the project and leads the way for future releases as Belmar hints: “It’s basically an open door to the next stage of this project. I have been working on this album since 2014, and the next album will be completely different. This album I think will be well received from people who are into oldies and classic metal, I want to provoke curiosity; my purpose is to catch people’s attention so they can follow the next movements of the band, which are going to be a little bit twisted in comparison with Midnight Terrors.”

Dauntlessly carrying on, Hellnite now has a full lineup to play live and has been bringing their music to metalheads across Canada and plans to unleash the third album to compliment “Midnight Terrors” is underway.

Ontario Tour Dates

Debut Album “Badder Than Brooklyn” Out Now!

Produced By Gojira’s Joe Duplantier

Unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira during October of last year along with a lengthy tour across Canada, Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR are currently on their fall “Buried Out Back Tour” across Ontario (dates listed below). Slaying the first date last week in Cornwall, ON, their touring drummer Joey Muha is ready to “Tear You” a new one in his latest slaying drum video.

Watch it at the following link: https://youtu.be/6JS08utaZiA

DECATUR has gone through line up changes since releasing their debut album. For this tour, the band’s live line up features founding member Jay Sarrazin supported by drummer Joey Muha (Jungle Rot, Threat Signal, Lightyears), Anthony Zhura (Caym, Centuries of Decay) and Aidan Keenan (Imperion).

DECATUR‘s debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” was produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira and is all-killer, no filler! It doesn’t hide behind its production; it compliments it. These are truly songs of power and empowerment, a clarion call for strength in life’s battles…healing through headbanging. From the power shredding of “Into The Night” and the storytelling of the album’s title track “Badder Than Brooklyn” to the brutal beat down of songs like “Bottled Inside” and “Internal War”, DECATUR feel modern metal has lost its way and they’re here to provide the roadmap forward to the future! Make no mistake, DECATUR are a band that puts the grit into integrity, as guitarist/vocalist Jay ‘Beard’ Sarrazin says, DECATUR make “real metal for real metalheads.”

The band’s latest music video “Worst Enemy” can be viewed at the following link below. The video is a message from the band to conquer the fight against depression and follows the album’s theme of power and empowerment, a clarion call for strength in life’s battles…healing through headbanging.

Vocalist / guitarist Jay Sarrazin comments:

“Worst Enemy was actually the first song I wrote for this album. I was at a pretty dark place in my life at the time. I was struggling with depression and anxiety and was constantly berating myself with negativity. I felt trapped in a box so to speak and I became my own worst enemy. That’s what the song is about and the music video we made emphasizes that emotion of being trapped in that box or in your own head saying all these things to yourself. Throughout the years I have learned to find more coping methods and I am always learning more about myself. Hopefully this song helps other knows they are not alone and to seek help if they need it.”

“Badder Than Brooklyn is one of those wonderful albums that will give you little to complain about…one of the best heavy metal releases this year. Shatterproof & Internal War Pt. 2 confirm this with the former a very traditional & groove-layered slab while the latter goes for a more melodic approach.” Games, Brrrains & A Head-Banging Life

“Badder Than Brooklyn is a solid debut album of modern metal that’s worth seeking out.” – Heavy Metal HQ

“Great for a pounding run or a body-wrecking workout, Badder Than Brooklyn will satisfy fans of metal, hard rock, or good old-fashioned rock and roll.” – Shockwave Mag

“The energy in the room was electrifying, and it was impossible not to mosh and head bang with intense vigour. The band’s connection on stage was infectious, as it was obvious that these guys loved what they were doing and loved doing it together.” – The Phoenix News – Live Review – Kelowna, BC

“Badder Than Brooklyn is a formidable effort by these talented newcomers. Considering the fact that this is their debut album, I most certainly think that they have nailed it. With memorable and we’ll crafted songwriting, if these guys keep up their work I see a bright future ahead if them. Undoubtedly an album that I will recommend for all Thrash/Groove Metal enthusiasts. That being said I hope they will come back even stronger in their sophomore effort for which I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled.” – Metal Centre

“Toronto-based Decatur, with their debut release Badder Than Brooklyn, has created a metal album for metal’s sake, a traditionally fast, heavy riffing, drivingly intense set of tunes to be included on an FM radio station in the next installment of Grand Theft Auto playing between Megadeth’s “Holy War…The Punishment Due”, Metallica’s “Battery”, and right after Pantera’s “Walk”.” – Canadian Beats

Named after their very own Street of Dreams in New York, where they recorded their debut album at Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn, DECATUR get their unique sound by being opened-minded, not just to each other in this band of brothers, but to different genres, not just of metal, but also the blues, rock ‘n’ roll and even pop! Decatur’s criteria if it’s good they can make it better! They focus on evolution not devolution. There is no fear of DECATUR repeating themselves musically; for them…the world is not enough. They see themselves as intrepid explorers, never playing it safe, always looking for new lands to conquer, and in the process drawing on creative powers they never knew they possessed.

“We put a lot of effort into writing real songs and putting out a real album that hopefully touches a broad fan base. Our goal was to make sure that not only every single song had been thoroughly thought through, but that it was given all the attention and passion that we truly felt they deserved. We honestly feel like metal has lost its way a bit and we were set on writing something original and not following the trends of today such as low tunings, aggressive growling and perfectly lined up music and sound. We focused on the realness of ourselves and wanted to produce something that wasn’t always perfect and was as real and as honest as we could be. We did not need or want to hide behind production. We wanted our raw talent to be caught and portrayed to everyone. Our goal was to produce something from the soul, not from the computer.” Says Sarrazin.

Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR will be unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira on October 6th, 2017. In preview to its release, the band have teamed up with MetalUnderground.com for the premiere of its full stream. The debut is all-killer, no filler! It doesn’t hide behind its production; it compliments it. These are truly songs of power and empowerment, a clarion call for strength in life’s battles…healing through headbanging. Vocalist/guitarist Jay Sarrazin comments:

“Working on this record was a dream come true for us. We were honoured to be able to work with Joe Duplantier. His vision and knowledge of music is so vast that he opened up so many gates for us. There are so many musicians in the world, but very few true artists and Joe is definitely one of the artists. Getting the chance to work side by side with him was an amazing experience for us. This album turned out better than we hoped. We put a lot of time and effort into the final product. We really scrutinized every piece of it. Our goal was to bring metal back to its hay day. To write a great album and not just a great single. We definitely created something original with this album. Something that’s not happening in metal at the moment. It’s for real fans of real metal. We couldn’t be more excited to take this across Canada to kick off the tour. You should expect us to come for the kill live. We are very excited to unleash this album on the world and to start touring it.”

Toronto-based metal messiahs DECATUR will be unleashing their debut album “Badder Than Brooklyn” produced by Joe Duplantier of Gojira on October 6th, 2017. Named after their very own street of dreams in New York, where they recorded their debut album at Silvercord Studios in Brooklyn, DECATUR get their unique sound by being opened-minded, not just to each other in this band of brothers, but to different genres, not just of metal, but also the blues, rock ‘n’ roll and even pop. DECATUR’s criteria if it’s good, they can make it better! They focus on evolution not devolution. There is no fear of DECATUR repeating themselves musically; for them…the world is not enough. They see themselves as intrepid explorers, never playing it safe, always looking for new lands to conquer, and in the process drawing on creative powers they never knew they possessed.

Their debut album is all-killer, no filler!

Teaming up with PureGrainAudio, DECATUR are premiering their second single “Internal War”, a track written about fighting mental illness.

Vocalist and guitarist Jay “Beard” Sarrazin explains:

“This song represents the internal struggle that you go through to conquer mental illness. It’s an issue I have struggled with for my whole life. But I have struggled with it internally. Only recently has it become a discussion in the public eye. The more you talk about it, the more people you realize struggle with it and struggle with it alone. So this song represents that internal battle you go through daily. It’s a lonely war and that may be the hardest part about mental illness. But we are not alone. This song is to shed light on the fact that there are others that struggle.”

Vocalist and guitarist Jay “Beard” Sarrazin explains:

“This song has deep meaning for us. As a band that constantly tours and pushes to not only play live, but play in as many cities as possible, this song is almost an anthem for us. The song kicks off with lyrics that say ‘riding through the darkness, back into the night again. 3am in winter, lights become your only friend.’ These lyrics are a depiction of everyday on the road for us, playing cities and then driving through the middle of the night to get to the next city. The song also has a powerful message of not giving up on our dreams or ourselves. Because we feel most comfortable in our lives while on the road and playing every day, it’s a therapeutic experience for us.”

They see themselves as intrepid explorers, never playing it safe, always looking for new lands to conquer, and in the process drawing on creative powers they never knew they possessed.Vocalist and guitarist Jay “Beard” Sarrazin comments:

Our goal was to produce something from the soul, not from the computer.”

The album is all-killer, no filler! It doesn’t hide behind its production; it compliments it. Live, DECATUR lays down molten metal for their masses with years of touring experience from their previous bands Caym, Burning The Day, A Sin For A Prayer, this local super group is hungrier than ever and excited to show their dominance as a force to reckon with in the Canadian metal scene and soon worldwide.

“We pride ourselves on a high energy, hard-hitting live performance. We are not like most bands that stand there and stare at their instruments. Playing live is almost like a healing process for us and we need to play with a significant amount of power and energy to portray the songs in the right way and give them the respect they deserve.  We want our fans to come for an experience not just a live show!” says Sarrazin.

About:

Hailing from the frozen tundra of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is a band of metal marauders. A group of 5 each marking a point on a pentagram.

In the summer of 2015, guitarist Jonathan Hayward started forming a band that would be inspired by the great classic shredders of decades past. In a time and place where metal had become a sort of melting pot, a band slowly emerged and each member came together to turn back the clocks and rediscover the roots of heavy metal. That band would become what is now known as Dark Messiah.

Hayward recruited a drummer, a bassist and a rhythm guitarist and together their started to craft their sound that would make the band. On recommendation from the drummer, Stephen Chubaty was given an audition to become the vocalist and main lyricist to give voice to what Dark Messiah would become.

The band jumped onto the scene quickly. A very established bar that had been around about as long as rock n roll itself “The Zoo” announced it was closing. Jonathan and Stephen had never played the iconic venue before so the band set out to try and book a gig. Even though the group did not have a name yet and had barely been off the ground for a month, they decided to push forward.

With the gig fast approaching the need for a name was getting frustrating. In a conversation with a friend Hayward was asked what kind of band he was trying to help put together. “A classic metal inspired band, but one different than anyone else. a band that would bring back what once was.” He said. His friend responded with “Kinda like a chosen band.” as a joke. “Yeah but an evil one. Like a….dark messiah.” the name was solidified and the gig was officially booked.

In preparation for this goal the band worked hard together to make the show happen. Conflict and personality clashes led to the band’s first bassist to quit. They found a replacement to join the band a mere 12 days before the show. With original parts written and personalized by each member Dark Messiah took the stage.

In the end it was deemed a success. The band would go on to play more shows throughout the next couple of months but also had some more lineup changes. Lawrence Reimer was brought in to play rhythm guitar as the first member had to follow a different path. Lawrence’s drive helped push the band to it’s next level. Perfectly balancing the already established sound.

The band was shook to the core when it was forced to use the services of a fill in drummer due to unforeseen circumstances.

Even with all these issues arising the band never cancelled a show and never missed a beat. They eventually recruited the naturally talented Robert Schau on drums. A few months later the band was forced to once again replace a bassist right in the midst of recording. Lagg Walker joined the band and helped finish the E.P. The release debuted at #4 on Reverbnation for metal in Winnipeg and the next day made it to number #2. Now the band is stronger than ever and has their eyes set on touring throughout Canada in support of the EP come summer of 2017.
