Canada’s progressive power gothic metal band Red Cain unleashed their new album “Kindred: Act II” digitally this past January with the CD physical release due out via Sliptrick Records later date this year.

Today, the band presents their latest visualizer for their track “Precipice of Man”.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny adds:

“A ballad, but also…not? Certainly the most experimental track on this album, “Precipice of Man” was born out of focusing entirely on capturing the story and atmosphere related to the track from note one, and creating a musical landscape supporting those elements. Utilizing falsetto vocals and electronic touches not found in other tracks, “Precipice of Man” still keeps the weight and urgency of the album, but provides a necessary introspective and cautiously uplifting element.

Within the “Kindred” concept, this is a track that “takes stock” of the world of the album at the time, featuring three parts from the POV of three characters: the opening stanzas from Zalcoatl’s companion Juliet urging him to push on (“take my hand and step out onto the precipice of Man”), the Nameless Exarch’s ominous Latin chants in the middle of the track as he commands his hordes, and Zalcoatl’s meditation on the role of humanity (“all their songs, they weren’t meant for us…but we are all that’s here”). The track hits a crescendo with an uplifting, determined chorus from all our protagonists together – “There is life in the ashes, there is smoke upon the shore – and your weary hands hold the fate of more than you can know” – showing that there is still hope on the journey to the Sun.”

The video can be seen and heard via its premiere on Folk N’ Rock HERE.

Described as a vehicle of “Melancholy and Rage” and born out of the emerging music scene of Calgary, AB, 2017 YYC Awards Metal Recording of the Year winner Red Cain is a power/progressive metal project with Russian roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and elements of Slavic myth and Russian paganism in the storytelling tradition of the cult of Veles, Red Cain champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience.

Their new sophomore full-length continues and ends the band’s storytelling of their Kindred saga, which began with their 2019’s “Kindred: Act: 1”. Offering a mix of melodies and metallic styles in power, progressive and goth metal, Red Cain continues to deliver epic adventurous songs with tracks like Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire)”, “Demons”, “Kindred” and “Varyag and The Shrike”.

Vocalist Evgeniy Zayarny comments:

“Step forward in the ranks of the Varyag Mstislav, hear the chilling call of the Nameless Exarch, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the Aztec warrior Zalcoatl in the depths of an ancient Ziggurat. Experimental, aggressive, yet melodic and recognizably Red Cain, the second act in the “Kindred” saga sets the bar even higher in the hybrid prog/power style we have made our own.

Inspired by the age-old Slavic rites honouring the Sun and continuing the storytelling tradition of Veles, this album is an amalgam of myths, genres, and emotions – and we could not be more proud to be able to share it with you.

All stories must come to an end – but this is one where the action and intensity is at its peak. This is a story where the stakes are lethal, where the music is loud and the melodies cut deep – where the frozen North wind chills the land and an eldritch specter hangs over the horizon. Above all, this is a story of humanity reaching out toward the Sun, come what may. This is our story of “Kindred” – and we are absolutely fired up to bring you with us on this mad ride.”

“From the proggy goodness of album opener “Kindred”, to the blast beats of “Baltic Fleet”, to the epic closer “Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire), there is something here for every fan of progressive power metal.  With this being Act II in Red Cain’s Kindred body of work, I really feel as though I entered a movie theater right in the middle of an epic saga. Each song is a journey in and of itself, but each also contributes to the overall fantastic voyage.  I will absolutely be purchasing Act I of this amazing tale and listen from start to finish, the way it was intended. Do yourself a favor and do the same!” – Metal Rules

“If you like your music melodic, mysterious, and gothic, with a progressive power metal base, then this is for you. This has been a joy to review and yet another band to add to my favoured list. ” – The Prog Space

“Zayarny is a powerhouse vocalist and the contortions he forces into Red Cain make for a very diverse record.. the talent behind the record is undeniable, and at the very least, Kindred proved far more creative and thought-provoking than most death metal records I’ve recently tackled. You should give it a shot — even if you’re not a big weenie..” – Angry Metal Guy

“Overall, ‘Kindred: Act II’ is an interesting mix of styles that combine together in technical wizardry to set the backdrop for the continued tales of the warrior Zalcoatl. There’s some unexpected musical influences that bubble to the surface, particularly the liberal use of electronic elements provides a futuristic, yet gothic, element to the tales. Vocally, there’s some clear inspiration from Kamelot going on here. They’re predominantly clean, but with a wide range between high pitched and deep passages. The guitar work is pretty varied as well and at times even hits a distinctly djent groove that seems to appear out of nowhere!… Fans of Kamelot and Mastodon alike will find some common ground with ‘Kindred: Act II’ (and Act I for that matter).” – Uber Rock

“These seasoned metal performers brought me to school with a clear cut album, delivered beautifully across seven tracks. The epic highs and lows of the album leave me wanting more… My hat is off to RED CAIN!” – Metal Temple

“With a flurry of progressive guitars, grandiose vocals and intriguingly wild effects, Red Cain burn brightly from the very start with the opening track, Kindred.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Songs alternate between melodic and more progressive portions in fine fashion. There is also a heroic aspect to the band that assures that they have some variety and also ties them to power metal. The entire affair is uplifting and does a good job getting the listener entranced in the music… a fun album and a very nice way to start the year off. It will also appeal to fans of bands from a number of different sub-genres.” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“the crew here found yet another gem from Red Cain, one filled with cosmic terrors this time. Kindred: Act II provides us with an additional slice of that delicious metal geekery that this band is capable of. A record that makes complexity sound easy, even casual. And that’s a feat not many bands master these days anymore.” – Rock Music Raider

SHORT BIO:
Hellnite is a heavy metal project that was founded in 2010 in Mexico City by Paolo Belmar (vocals and guitar) originally playing covers of early influences, heavyweights including Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. In 2011 and 2012 they began experimenting with various sounds and playing local events in their home city and their recognizable, heavy original music in the style of Kreator, Slayer and Death was lapped up by fans. The first EP “Manipulator” was debuted in 2013 and shortly after, the band ultimately dissolved and Belmar moved to Canada. A metal fan from a young age determined to keep his project going, Belmar continued to work on the project in his new home of Edmonton, Canada. Working diligently, he performed all the parts for the second album, “Midnight Terrors” which will be released in February 2019. Dauntlessly carrying on, Hellnite now has a full lineup to play live and has been bringing their music to metalheads across Canada and plans to unleash the third album to compliment “Midnight Terrors” is underway.

LONG BIO:
Hellnite is a heavy metal project that was founded in 2010 in Mexico City by Paolo Belmar (vocals and guitar) with schoolmates Luis Mora (ex-bass) and Mauricio Salas (ex-drums). They originally started off playing covers of their early influences, heavyweights including Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth. A year later, they recruited Luiz Guzman (rhythm guitar) to the band and their sound began to narrow into an authentic form that would see them creating heavy original music in the style of Kreator, Slayer and Death. In 2011 and 2012 they began experimenting with various sounds and playing local shows, conventions, festivals and other events in their home city and their recognizable, heavy songs were lapped up by fans. The first EP “Manipulator” was debuted in 2013 and shortly after, Guzman parted ways with the band leaving Hellnite to become a power trio. Writing started for the next release but the band ultimately dissolved not long after and Belmar moved to Canada. A metal fan from a young age, determined to keep his project going, Belmar continued to work on the project in his new home of Edmonton, Canada. Working diligently, he performed all the parts for the second album, “Midnight Terrors” which will be released in February 2019. The full length paranormal and sci-fi themed concept album proves the growth of the project and leads the way for future releases as Belmar hints: “It’s basically an open door to the next stage of this project. I have been working on this album since 2014, and the next album will be completely different. This album I think will be well received from people who are into oldies and classic metal, I want to provoke curiosity; my purpose is to catch people’s attention so they can follow the next movements of the band, which are going to be a little bit twisted in comparison with Midnight Terrors.”

Dauntlessly carrying on, Hellnite now has a full lineup to play live and has been bringing their music to metalheads across Canada and plans to unleash the third album to compliment “Midnight Terrors” is underway.

Calgary, AB progressive power metal quartet VIATHYN is proud to unleash their new album ‘Cynosure’, officially out today, October 7th. Producedby VIATHYN’s Tomislav Crnkovic plus mixed and mastered by Sacha Laskow (Divinity, Every Hour Kills), ‘Cynosure’ features nine epic assaulting tracks with intense guitar shredding and infectious chants that blend prog thrash, melo-death and power metal influences. With VIATHYN‘s 2010 ‘The Peregrine Way’ debut album praised for its innovative song-writing and fresh comparison to today’s power metal, it was only a matter of time for guitarist Jacob Wright to launch into song-writing mode and compose a majority of the material that would be recorded for this second full-length. Even through hindrances such as studio closings, computer crashes, losing a jam space, and a flood, VIATHYN was able to record their second album between August 2012 and February 2014. With the addition of 7-string guitars, some growl vocals, and an evolving influence, Cynosure’s songs are faster, more technical, and heavier, while maintaining a constant melodic and progressive presence ready to be unleashed upon the world.

“After 4 long years, thousands of man-hours, and more than a couple cases of beer, Cynosure is finally here! The entire process was an adventure, but we’re extremely proud of the end result. Hopefully the fact that the album is so dense and busy can buy us some time to try and top it with album 3!! Thanks to everyone that helped make this happen.” comments guitarist Jacob Wright.

About:

A chance encounter at a local record store in Calgary, Alberta between guitarist Jacob Wright, who was just looking for work, and vocalist Tomislav Crnkovic, who happened to be an employee of said shop, resulted in a friendship that gradually led to the creation of progressive power metal outfit Viathyn in 2006 with a solidified live and recording line up in 2009.

Playing off the word ‘Leviathan’, the guys settled on ‘Viathyn’, which has no actual definition in the English language, but when referring to the band can be taken to mean ‘progressive, melodic, grandiose, innovative and emotional’.

Forgoing the strict rules and structure common to the genre, the four-piece is known for its ability to write songs that grow and progress naturally and shift tone unapologetically without falling victim to common tropes. Building on their first full-length album, 2010’s The Peregrine Way, Viathyn is now gearing up to unveil its second record, Cynosure produced by vocalist/guitarist Tomislav Crnkovic plus mixed and mastered by Sacha Laskow (Divinity, Every Hour Kills).

“The literal definition of ‘cynosure’ is a focal point or an object that serves to guide,” explains Wright. “Each track focuses upon a character that is either affected by or acts as an agent of chaos and the message we wanted to express is how small and insignificant our actions and petty squabbles are within the grand scale of the universe. It’s kind of a backwards way of trying to show that we as humans should be humble and respectful to each other!”

Cynosure promises to be faster, more technical and heavier than its predecessor while maintaining a constant melodic and progressive presence – can you handle it?

– 30 –

“A pristine production and moody artwork round off a phenomenal album that takes the best of prog and power metal, adds some celtic influence, and an outstanding feeling for flow, dynamics and melodies that catapults both Viathyn and Cynosure into the uppermost echelons of the genre. At times reminding me of Danish masters Wuthering Heights, the Calgarians are putting bar high and any fan of prog power!” – Metal Observer

“An exploration of disillusion, discord, affliction, enlightenment, and grandeur as seen through nine different storytellers, Viathyn live for a more European-oriented montage of neo-classical runs, twin guitar harmonies, double bass fury, and the occasional mid-tempo transition that can be highly folk or Celtic influenced…Cynosure is proof again that our neighbors to the north can rival the best European acts going in this faithful, happy sub-genre.” – Dead Rhetoric

“From the galloping opener “Ageless Stranger” to the long, swirling, fist-pumping closer “Cynosure”, this album has everything a fan of power metal could want. Guitar solos to die for, pounding rhythm, riffs that stick in your head for days, and a vocalist that impresses you with every song. It is simply an awe inspiring album, on several levels of musicianship, storytelling, and even visually with artwork that is absolutely beautiful.” – Crown of Viserys

“An atmospheric metal album with grand vocal work and guitar structure.” – Headbang or GFTO

“Cynosure is an album with plenty to offer fans of the Progressive Power Metal sound, as VIATHYN have a great talent for making melodies and their songwriting abilities have enabled them to make an album full of long songs without getting boring.” – Metal Temple

“the songwriting is masterful and the songs are tight and fun” – The Blood Shed

“VIATHYN play majestic epic progressive power metal, with a tinge of folk metal, prog rock and with a slight sprinkling of thrash added to the mix for good measure” – All About The Rock

“Second on the album is “The Coachman”, which was released a few weeks ago. Hands down, my favorite song on this album. I always love a band that has a story-line within the song, and even from the start the lyrics are superb. Vocalist Tomislav Crnkovic has one of the smoothest and grooviest melodic lines I have heard from a Canadian band, he’s got the highs that can scare a cat – and he’s got a metal as fuck name.” – Morning Metal – CKCU 93.1 FM (Ottawa)

“Viathyn executes each song perfectly, on game and completely in your face. The production quality on this album is excellent, which I believe was done at Perfect Fifth Studios – one of Calgary’s premier metal recording studios…The songwriting on this album, especially this track (Cynosure), proves that this band pays attention to what they’re doing and how well they want to the overall vibe to leave on you.” – Ottawa Showbox

“Cynosure sees Viathyn move from a solid foundation to having released a mature batch of power metal songs that meet or exceed my (very high) expectations for front line power metal veterans like Labyrinth, Orden Ogan, and DGM. I give this album an extremely high recommendation to those that like heavy, fast power metal with extremely satisfying twists and quirks. The unparalleled lyricism: often dark, sometimes abstract, and always very vivid, is bound to appeal to progressive fans as well. You just can’t lose with this one.” – Black Wind Metal

“Viathyn advances the progressive elements of metal music gracefully articulating the acoustic canvas with intense rhythm, accentuated with electrical precision, weaving a spirited discography of ageless compositions.” – Metal Canvas – CHUO 89.1 FM (Ottawa)

“Canada’s Viathyn play a hybrid of melodic, heavy progressive metal with hints of classical elements thrown in for good measure.

“Cynosure” is an amalgamation of all the best elements taken from progressive metal, heavy metal, classical influences within their guitar leads and playing. Their clean vocals, with the occasional rough vocals on few of the songs definitely brings out this quartet’s total musical essence on their newest CD “Cynosure”. There is not one dull moment on this grandiose produced album (it sounds very big in the production and mix), which feels like you’re experiencing this band in a live setting. They’re a four-piece group, but certainly sound like a ten member band, with their whole slew of playing styles and varied musical influences.” – Explicitly Intense

“it becomes clear these are people who have not only mastered their instruments but also have a way above average sense of music.” – Lords of Metal

“Part of what makes “Cynosure” such an interesting listen is that it draws influence from a variety of sources.” – Skull Fracturing Metal
