Hailing from Oshawa, Canada, Maitreya will be unleashing their upcoming album “Hyper Reels” this coming June 2021. To date, they have shared two singles “Departed” and “Catalyst”.

Continuing in lead up to their new record’s release, the band is sharing their American Gods inspired single “Summit” with the premiere of its music video via TheCircle Pit HERE.

The band comments on the track:

“Summit is an exploration of the concept of spiritual value, and the way that giving time and attention to things gives them power. At times we give this power to things or concepts which do not add positivity to our lives but instead hollow and degrade our existence. Inspired by the novel American Gods by Neil Gaiman and the show of the same name.”

Maitreya‘s sophomore album “Hyper Reels” boasts a higher degree of musical complexity, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. The full length is a heavily layered listening experience, a cacophony of styles, merging together to create an intense wall of sound that forces you to pay attention to all the subliminal notes and tempo changes.

As a whole, the album was put under a microscope during its creation, forcing Maitreya to refine every element and mature past their previous releases. It shows vastly improved musicianship that will only continue to grow as the band forges onward in their career.

A barrage of complexity intertwined with melody awaits fans, especially those who have an interest in The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero.

The full album “Hyper Reels” is out on June 25, 2021.

“We’re always on the hunt for interesting new metal bands, and Canada’s Maitreya certainly qualifies. The band’s newest single, “Catalyst”, treads familiar progressive metal territory – think vocals similar to Leprous and instrumentation akin to older BTBAM – but rest assured it sounds fresh.” – New Fury Media

“Their musical abilities were astounding, and I believe they could have been each individually the most technically capable with their instruments of those performing that night.” – Metal Master Kingdom

“Lead-heavy, yet at the same time musically complex, Maitreya’s music is sonic baptism, taking the listener from the fire pits to the icy peaks. The band’s self-titled album weaves an intricate melodic narrative, where both headbanging metal-heavy riffs and reflective vocal lines co-exist in the vortex of sonic alchemy, presented to the listener in its raw, unfiltered elemental form.” – Dentata Music

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 18, 2021

For fans of Dream Theater, Keith Merrow, Periphery, Tesseract, Jeff Loomis

Streaming Now! Manuel Barbará’s Debut Progressive Metal Album “Moonrise”

Album Stream via Metal-Rules

Album Out March 19th, 2021

New Jersey’s Manuel Barbará has a debut album “Moonrise” out and it will be streaming on all music platforms for the listening pleasure of prog fans worldwide as of Friday, March 19th. Barbará is the sole songwriter of this project and it marks the beginning of his foray into the musical world.

And before the album officially drops, its full stream is being premiered via Metal-Rules HERE.

Barbará took up the guitar at the age of 16 and managed to successfully audition for Berklee at age 18. The debut album “Moonrise” is an unique piece of music, much of the writing was done during the very early days of his training in classical composition. For Barbará, this work is a journey through a series of sonic worlds and colors that he has carefully crafted. He comments on the album:

“This music has been part of my own little universe for so long, and I am beyond excited to share it with the world. The process of making the album has been an epic journey, a learning experience, and a trial by fire all wrapped into one and I am looking forward to bringing that journey to an audience, and into the future with the music that is to come.

The purpose of music for me, after all the craft and technique and study are done, is to draw the listeners in and allow them to experience totally new worlds. The details of those worlds will be up to each individual person, but I hope the audience will join me on this small adventure I’ve prepared.”

According to Barbará, these songs, so far, were only ever performed live once and are not likely to be performed again for some time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he makes an effort during his live performances to avoid the “musical statues” syndrome that plagues so many prog bands.

A fluid and extravagant progressive masterpiece await fans of Periphery, Tesseract, and Jeff Loomis.

The full album is out on March 19, 2021.

“With its rhythmic elements and heavy riffs, Manuel Barbará’s debut album is in the purity of modern instrumental progressive metal. But his influences from classical composers add an interesting extra touch.”- Music Waves

“a spectacular showcase of the progressive qualities of Manuel Barbará.” – Games, Brains and A Headbanging Life

“without a doubt that we have a talented musician and composer in front of us. The approach is in large parts of the material progressive metal with the corresponding hardness and complexity… You can’t deny the band’s instrumental quality…” – Metal-Heads.de

France’s Pathfinders are ready to make first contact with the landing of their debut album “Ares Vallis” via label Music-Records on April 16, 2021.

Just like the NASA space probe “Mars Pathfinder” that their name is originated from, Pathfinders are embarking on an encounter of the metal kind. Entering the “Ares Vallis”, the band is rooted in a primary sound of groove metal, but introduces fans into an astronomical discovery of twelve tracks assembled with progressive, thrashy, djenty, and melodic tones.

The band adds:

“We are fascinated with space exploration, especially following recent odysseys to the red planet. We believe it may be the next step in humanity’s evolution of uncovering what this universe holds. This is an album of us telling stories on adventures to and from Mars.”

The band’s lead single “Damned Earth” was released earlier this year, and it immediately crushes everything in its path, leading an assault with speed and breakdowns, along with a tinge of hardcore tendencies mixed with accelerating quantum force.

Fans of bands such as Lamb of God, Periphery, Parkway Drive, and In Flames will be intrigued to enter the undiscovered metal terrain that Pathfinders are offering up.

Pathfinders was formed in 2018 and consist of the Gaucher brothers Jérémy (Bass) and Romain (Guitar) with Jérémy Barthélémy (Drums), Benjamin Daguet (Guitar), and Clément Levy (Vocals).

Canada’s No Hope for The Lost Announce Final Fantasy X Themed EP “The Pilgrimage” With Single “Yu Yevon”

Lyric Video Premiere via IDIOTEQ

EP “The Pilgrimage” Out April 9th, 2021

Following the Covid related demise of their band Deadlights, Re Mayer (guitar/backing vocals/synth) and Nathanael Bohnet (bass/lead vocals) took the opportunity to reimagine their sound and image to create No Hope For The Lost. They created their forthcoming introductory EP entitled “The Pilgrimage” to give fans a taste of their entirely new sound, but left it just short enough to keep hype levels high.

Their first single “Yu Yevon” immediately explodes into a rhythmic groove driven by heavy guitars and bass. It is quickly followed by screamed vocals and synth-driven interludes. The chorus of the track is a key change towards an upbeat and soaring movement that descends back into the heavy rhythmic territory that glues the song together. The band explains the track in more detail:

“It is the combination of an old demo from a band both Re and Nate had their separate times in, with the new direction that they had both been imagining. It ended up becoming a heavy yet upbeat back and forth between pummeling rhythms and soaring choruses. A very verse/chorus/verse/bridge/chorus song at heart, “Yu Yevon” was designed to be the set opener/EP kickstarter that reintroduces us as No Hope For The Lost.”

The EP as a whole is a structured listening experience that combines an atmosphere of melody and groove with a foundation of heavy rhythms and ferocious vocal patterns, all wrapped up in a Final Fantasy X theme that will surely please members of that fandom.

Groovy metalcore blended with hints of prog awaits with “The Pilgrimage”, which is highly recommended for fans of Periphery, Meshuggah, and Deftones.

The lyric video for the lead single “Yu Yevon” can be heard via its premiere on IDIOTEQ HERE.

Hailing from Oshawa, Canada, progressive metalcore Maitreya announced earlier this year they will be unleashing their new album “Hyper Reels” on June 25th, 2021. In lead up to the full-length’s release, the band has so far shared two singles, “Catalyst” and “Departed”.

As they continue to showcase a barrage of complexity intertwined with melody, the band is sharing their new guitar playthrough for “Departed”, the most complex and exploratory song on the record. It demonstrates an evolving and progressive song structure, illustrating the band’s signature bag of tricks; frenetic riffs, operatic layered vocals, crushing breakdowns, and dense textures.

The guitar playthrough for “Departed” can be viewed via its premiere on TechnicalMusicReview HERE.

“Departed” is available on YouTube, Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple Music here.

For fans of The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero, Maitreya‘s forthcoming album “Hyper Reels” boasts a higher degree of musical technicality, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. The album as a whole was put under a microscope during its creation, forcing Maitreya to refine every element and mature past their previous releases. It shows vastly improved musicianship that will only continue to grow as the band forges onward in their career.

“Hyper Reels is an honest expression and discovery of what Maitreya is all about. We lived with these songs for years, honing them on stage and in the studio. This album details our evolution as a band, remaining true to our metalcore roots and highlighting a trajectory not confined to any particular subgenre. Our intention with this record was to craft songs with strong conceptual meanings paired with musical creativity that remains catchy.” adds the band.

Lyrically, “Hyper Reels” delves deep into societal and philosophical themes regarding identity, organizational value, free will, truth, and spirituality along with touching on topics in science fiction, artificial intelligence, cybernetic enhancement, and the new technological consciousness. It communicates feelings of anger, frustration, and isolation, as well as optimism, freedom, and inspiration.

Manuel Barbará Conjures The Weird And Wonderful With “The Nightmare Weaver” Off Upcoming Album “Moonrise”

“The Nightmare Weaver” Guitar Playthrough Premiere via NewFuryMedia

Album Out March 19th, 2021

Heavy, ambient, classically inspired progressive metal is the name of the game for New Jersey’s Manuel Barbará. Looking to create something short, but still substantial for his debut release, he has come up with the seven-track instrumental album “Moonrise”.

Much of Barbará’s writing aims to create worlds made of sound that the listener can live in as they experience the piece. A lot of the music grows out of a single idea that he can coalesce and build the world around. The second single from the album is “The Nightmare Weaver”, which he says is the most ambitious composition on the record. He explains in further detail:

“It features ambiguous and constantly shifting tonal centers and epic clean guitars juxtaposed with enormous 8-string riffs. It ends with a weird and ambiguous chord progression reminiscent of the one at the end of “Children of Prometheus”.”

As far as more music goes, Barbará says there is another track in production and an abundance of ideas for new tunes. This album is his first foray into the music world, in which he is currently planning to attend graduate school for composition with the long-term goal of becoming a professor.

This album will resonate with all fans of this style of music, especially fans of Keith Merrow, Periphery, and Tesseract.

Hailing from Oshawa, Canada, Maitreya is excited to announce their upcoming album “Hyper Reels” slated for a June 2021 release. They have just released the second single “Departed”, which is being premiered on TheProgSpace HERE.

This new album boasts a higher degree of musical complexity, filthy breakdowns and a wider range on the vocals ebbing from melodic cleans into sustained growls set to a whirlwind of complicated riffs. Maitreya comments on the single:

“Departed is the most complex and exploratory song on the record. It showcases an evolving and progressive song structure illustrating our signature bag of tricks; frenetic riffs, operatic layered vocals, crushing breakdowns, and dense textures. Lyrically the song borrows concepts from AI fiction (Westworld, The Matrix and Blade Runner) that explore the nature of consciousness, intelligence, and reincarnation.”

Not for the faint of heart, Maitreya’s music is a heavily layered listening experience, a cacophony of styles, merging together to create an intense wall of sound that forces you to pay attention to all the subliminal notes and tempo changes.

The album as a whole was put under a microscope during its creation, forcing Maitreya to refine every element and mature past their previous releases. It shows vastly improved musicianship that will only continue to grow as the band forges onward in their career.

Manuel Barbará Presents His Progressive Metal Album “Moonrise”

“Moonrise” Guitar/Bass Playthrough Premiere via TheProgSpace

Album Out March 19th, 2021

New Jersey’s Manuel Barbará is releasing his debut album “Moonrise” this coming March. The first single for this full length is the title track.

Featuring seven instrumental tracks of classically inspired progressive metal, Manuel Barbará puts a conscious effort into making each song into a cohesive, well-composed whole rather than a collection of flashy guitar tricks.

This recording features songwriter Manuel Barbará on guitars and programming, Nick Thorpe on bass along with Joey Ferretti on drums. The album is designed to take the listener on a journey through a series of loosely interconnected sound worlds that Barbará has created. He explains the single “Moonrise”:

“It was actually the first complete piece I ever wrote that I was really happy with. It has gone through many revisions since then, but it is still special to me as that first one. I wanted to make something big and epic and heavy with just enough of a weird edge to keep people interested. Funnily enough, the chorus riff, which seems to be everyone’s favorite part, was supposed to be a throw-away idea that I was going to replace later, but it stuck around.”

According to Barbará, this album is the first step towards his longtime goal to take his training as a classical composer and apply it to this style of modern metal that he loves so much in a way that goes beyond the standard Yngwie “neo-classical metal” thing.

A treat for anyone who enjoys imaginative progressive metal, “Moonrise” is highly recommended for fans of Dream Theater, Keith Merrow, and Periphery.

The single “Moonrise” can be heard via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Oshawa’s Maitreya have a new album “Hyper Reels” coming out in June 2021. The first single from the album is “Catalyst” out on January 29, 2021 complete with a music video. Dimensional and visceral, fans familiar with the first self-titled album will be excited with the new works. Everything has evolved, the songwriting is more refined and the instrumental features more complexity and dynamic range, vocals are given more space to truly shine, the production contains new electronic aesthetics.

Through trial and error on stage, the band’s sound has matured exponentially, with a harmonic palette that has stretched past the typical confines of metalcore. This open harmonic foundation provides more options sonically for vocals and lead guitar to explore melodically. Rhythmically, the band has gone deeper into exploring complex polyrhythmic ideas, polymetric patterns and odd time signatures.

The single “Catalyst” was the last song written for the album and is a favourite of the band. It features signature Maitreya song devices like; riff-heavy sections, clean-ambient moments, big breakdowns, melodic lead passages, anthemic chorus vocals, a drum solo and progressive exploratory song structure. The band explains the track further:

“We wrote this song about our guitarist Mark and his catalyzing role in bringing the band together, Mark’s dedication to the band in being able to organize various elements of writing, recording, and performance cannot be understated. In the same spirit, this is a song that has a very grateful and optimistic tone. It highlights many of the macro elements people can expect throughout the rest of the album. At the time this song was written, our guitarist Mark was going through cancer treatment. This form of near death experience forced us to introspectively evaluate the deeper meanings of our relationships.”

A slick and immersive experience for new and returning fans alike, Maitreya is recommended for fans of The Contortionist, Between the Buried and Me, and Protest the Hero.

The single “Catalyst” is out on January 29, 2020, and its music video can be viewed via its premiere on NewFuryMedia HERE.
