THIRTEEN GOATS Tramples Forward With The Teaser For Their New Album “Capricorn Rising” Out July 2024

Prepare to be engulfed in a maelstrom of diabolical metal as Canada’s Thirteen Goats announces the release of their second album “Capricorn Rising” that comes out on July 12, 2024, via Exitus Stratagem Records. Combining ferocious riff-driven bangers with darkly humorous lyrics, Thirteen Goats delivers a unique blend of extreme metal that will intrigue metalheads around the world. They are teasing this new release with a clip of their upcoming lyric video for “A Wolf In Shepherd’s Clothing”. The band comments on the album:

“Thirteen Goats is back with even more furious riffage and even less respect for arbitrary subgenre boundaries. This time out, we swing for the fences with a “death metal rock opera” that tells the origin story of our mascot, Shepherd, while remaining true to the themes of our earlier work: humanity’s propensity for violence, the way power corrupts, and the urgent need for our species to find a better way together or ultimately face destruction.”

It’s been two years since the release of their debut “Servants of the Outer Dark”, and they’ve worked their asses off to bring everything fans loved about that record back with a vengeance – the frenzied fretwork, the humongous hooks, and the subtly humorous lyrics that mask much darker and more serious subjects. They’ve also worked hard to focus these elements into an offering that is more unified and consistent than anything they’ve done to date.

Is it thrash? Death? Groove? Thirteen Goats don’t care, and neither should you. This Vancouver four-piece tramples all over subgenre conventions to create an alchemical style of infernal riffs, huge hooks, and uniquely theatrical songwriting. They are recommended for fans of Carcass, Lamb of God, and System of a Down.

What the press said about 2022 album “Servants of the Outer Dark”:

#14 on Top 20 – Loud – Canadain College Radio – August 2022 (Earshot)

“An alchemical style reminiscent of Cannibal Corpse, Misery Index, classic Megadeth, melodic Swe-death, and all eras of Death and Carcass.” – Decibel

“Rips, we’re here for it.” – MetalSucks

“Perfectly marries old school death metal, blackened tendencies, and heavy metal choruses.” – Metal Injection

“THIRTEEN GOATS unapologetically raise the deathcore flag for the new decade and absolutely don’t care what people think.” – Exclaim!

“Think Vulgar Display of Power-era Pantera in a cage match with Cannibal Corpse and Ministry.” – The Georgia Straight

“A gut-punching and head-hooking offering of death metal that borrows liberally from many of the genre’s subsets, as well as bringing in elements of thrash, black metal, and grindcore.” – No Clean Singing

“With a name like THIRTEEN GOATS, it’s gonna be evil. It’s cool, thrashy, blackened groove metal, a little like a Lamb of God sound with a bit more heavy brutality going on and a dash of black metal evilness. Great stuff!” – The Mosh Pit on WORT 89.9 FM (Madison, WI)

“THIRTEEN GOATS make seriously good music and sound like they have a lot of fun doing it. They write great upbeat thrash songs with strong melodies that appropriately sway from sinister to camp and pull it off tremendously. For some classic charcuterie of extreme metal mixed with a bit of tongue in cheek, you’re well looked after here.” – Heavy Mag

“THIRTEEN GOATS is a new strength in the extreme scene.” – Metal Temple

“The starting point of Thirteen Goats and their debut album Servants Of The Outer Dark is death metal, but it doesn’t remain tied to it. They explore all types, including tech death and melodic death metal, and even genres outside of that like thrash, groove, and doom metal. Each song brings out a unique side to the band, whether it’s the politically charged ‘Prisoner’s Anthem’ or the body horror of ‘Sub-Being.’” – Heavy Music Headquarters

“Canada’s THIRTEEN GOATS are incredibly fun to listen to and at multiple points subtly humorous—and, as such, make themselves easily a breath of fresh air within the technical scene. That sense of fun is backed up with very proficient playing and dizzying creativity, far beyond what you would expect from a debuting act’s first full length… Servants of the Outer Dark is an excellent debut full-length from these guys and I can’t wait to hear more!” [9/10] – Metal Observer

“All you need is love? No. All you need is THIRTEEN GOATS. Their debut album has everything your heart could desire in a Metal record, it’s a metaphorical pizza with all the toppings and a better thrill ride of a first crack we defy you to find!” [8.5/10] – Metal Noise

“These guys have the ability and the chops to succeed, whilst channeling bands like Lamb Of God into their output.” – Man of Much Metal

“This is so good.” – Stephen Quinn, The Early Edition (CBC Radio One)

0 SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY Unleashes Relentless Cosmic Black Metal Split With LanzerRath

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – May 9, 2024

SHROUD OF DESPONDENCY Unleashes Relentless Cosmic Black Metal Split With LanzerRath

Off Split EP w/ LanzerRath Out May 10th, 2024

L-R – Rory Heikkila (all instruments), Ron Blemberg (vocals)

Prepare for an auditory descent into the abyss as Shroud of Despondency, from Michigan, USA, unveils their latest offering – a split with LanzerRath that is a true display of unrelenting cosmic black metal. This collaboration amplifies the intensity of Shroud of Despondency‘s sonic landscape, delving into the cosmic realms of negative energy that wreak havoc on creation wherever it manifests. Founder and multi-instrumentalist Rory Heikkila comments on the split:

“Shroud of Despondency prides itself on being unpredictable and remains concerned only with the artistic process. While previous albums have focused primarily on dying, death, entropy, and the despair that comes with life, in its current state it is taking a more science-fiction approach to these topics. LanzerRath has been supportive of Shroud of Despondency in the past and I approached them about the idea of a split when I realized their music was good and they were also from Michigan. We were both, oddly enough, interested in doing something around the idea of cosmic terror, and the collaboration kind of just happened from that.”

Heikkila’s journey with Shroud of Despondency began as a means of coping with personal loss and paying homage to black metal influences. Despite a hiatus from 2004-2011, the project resurged with live performances and prolific recording sessions in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since 2015, Heikkila and Blemberg, both hailing from Michigan but based in Milwaukee, have maintained a steady output of music, characterized by their unpredictable, dark, and emotionally charged compositions.

Heikkila adds that this split and an upcoming full length continue what was started on 2016’s full length, “Of Origin, Conflict, and Recurrence”, in that it sees these negative energies as taking physical form in host bodies and wreaking havoc. The split is recommended for fans of Enslaved, Root, and Thorns.

Listen to the full stream premiere of the Shroud of Despondency / LanzerRath split via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

Due out on May 10, 2024, the Split EP is available for pre-order at ShroudofDespondency.bandcamp.com.

Track Listing:
1. Shroud of Despondency – The Source of Multiversal Degradation
2. Shroud of Despondency – Celestial Venom
3. LanzerRath – Nebular Collapse, The Dissolution of Order and Meaning

“Shroud has always struck a fine balance between black metal’s esoteric and progressive bookends; in addition to the skin-searing atonality and machine gun riffing inherent to the genre, the band has made it a commonality to include tasteful strains of classical, Americana and folk, not to mention thrash, doom and death metal, in their sound. Basically, I was amazed they still hadn’t had someone’s dotted line thrust in front of their faces, especially in light of 1) the black metal genre’s historical open-armed acceptance of everyone from Emperor and Vattnet Viskar to Abruptum and Panopticon, and 2) the shitloads of crap out there that gets passed off as ‘essential listening.’”- Decibel

“From top to bottom, from the beginning of the first track until the last note of the fifth and final song of the album, Air of Abrasion is simply brilliant. It’s such a wild ride of an album, with literally the first 3/5ths of the album bringing such a visceral and stunning quality, to the last two tracks showcasing an emotive and musical talent that is flat out levelling on a whole new plane, or at least that elusive plane of musical identity and awareness that few artists actually achieve. I get the feeling that no matter if Shroud of Despondency sold 100 records or 100 million records, their writing and output would still be of the same quality and magnitude.” – Teeth of the Divine

Since 2009, Canada’s Valfreya has been honing their sound bringing in elements from black metal, and folk metal with touches of symphonic metal to create powerful music that has been heard around the world. With an impressive five albums already under their belts, they are gearing up for the sixth “Dawn of Reckoning”, coming out on May 24, 2024. A formidable concept album that tells of the goddess Hel striking back at humanity, it is a gritty, aggressive journey into mythology. The band comments on the second single “Le Périple” (“The Journey”), which is being released now in lyric video form:

“This album marks a significant evolution in our sound. While our earlier works leaned heavily on joyful and folkloric elements, “Dawn of Reckoning” takes on a symphonic blackened death metal approach. As for the single, it represents a human’s life: Innocence, discovery, ambition, false ideas, lies… This being slowly realizes that humanity is not virtuous.”

Gone are the days of folk metal and Viking metal. Valfreya invites listeners to embrace dark symphonies intertwined with tumultuous guitar riffs that will leave an indelible mark on their minds. “Dawn of Reckoning” promises to guide audiences through a journey of bitterness, nostalgia, and apocalyptic destruction, all set against a backdrop of cold nature and epic melodies.

Valfreya is a Canadian blackened death symphonic metal band hailing from Montreal. With a diverse discography that spans multiple genres, Valfreya continues to push the boundaries of metal music with its innovative sound and uncompromising vision. They are recommended for fans of Xaon, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and Carach Angren.

0 Canada’s The Blood Of Christ Releases Dark and Aggressive New Single “Oath Breaker” Off Upcoming EP “Sworn Trilogy”

  • April 16, 2024
  • by Asher
  • · Music News · The Blood of Christ

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – April 16, 2024

Canada’s The Blood Of Christ Releases Dark and Aggressive New Single “Oath Breaker” Off Upcoming EP “Sworn Trilogy”

Canada’s The Blood Of Christ is an Epic Dark Metal band that has been around since the early ‘90s. To date, they have released three full-length albums, and their new EP “Sworn Trilogy” is set to come out on April 23, 2024. The concept record tells a story about a man who, by means of his own cowardice in the face of oblivion, sentences his entire bloodline to commit evil acts on behalf of abyssal demons for all time. Ahead of the EP, to give fans of black and death metal a taste of what’s in store, they are releasing a lyric video for the single “Oath Breaker”, which they comment on:

“Oath Breaker was the last song we wrote for this trilogy and it might have just turned out to be one of our best yet. It has a lot of emotion and moods and resolves the trilogy in classic death metal, climaxing pit riff fashion. We have a feeling that this song will be a staple in our live set for several years to come and can’t wait to see the reaction to it.”

While the band’s influences favour the shocking approach with lyrical themes that were rampant with gore, Satanism, and often-abhorrent imagery, The Blood of Christ chose to focus on the more abstract and poetic subject matter. Their songs are often rife with human suffering, lust and longing, time travel, astrology, historical battles, and the human struggle for personal freedom. In “Oath Breaker” we see the protagonist flinging himself into the abyss, removing his own scourge from the earth and ending the curse his ancestors placed upon him.

The Blood of Christ’s brooding, unique, and crushing sound has made fans out of underground metal lovers from many genres, creating an appeal that defies genre borders.

Fiends who were raised on the sheer brutality and boundary-smashing efforts of Morbid Angel, or the pioneering and challenging progressive grind-core of Liverpudlian innovators Carcass, the epic and majestic sounds of Viking artisans Enslaved, or even the groove-laden proto-death of Brazilian legends Sepultura will find something rousing and engulfing within The Blood of Christ.

0 The Distinguished Order of Disobedience (The D.O.O.D.) Question Authority In New Single “Subterfuge”

  • March 6, 2024

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 6, 2024

The Distinguished Order of Disobedience (The D.O.O.D.) Question Authority In New Single “Subterfuge”

The Distinguished Order of Disobedience (The D.O.O.D.), from Sarasota, Florida, USA, is back with a vengeance, ready to shake the foundations of the metal scene with their latest single, “Subterfuge”. Following the success of their January 2023 single release, “Chaos for the Fly”, The D.O.O.D. is set to continue their musical onslaught, gearing up for the launch of their upcoming studio album in mid-2024. The band comments on the single:

“Subterfuge is the second single to be released, and it is a banger. It calls back to the days of thrash metal and has a defiant spirit in itself. This song takes a look at how we as a people in this country and others, regardless of political affiliation, are lied to on a regular basis for the gain of the greedy. It aims to speak to all of the common people and encourage everyone to speak up for what they believe in and not take everything that is fed to them by people in power at face value. We don’t believe in telling people where to hang their political hats, but rather to remind everyone to question authority, and that many speaking up as one is more powerful than the few.”

This single, along with the upcoming full-length is the next evolution of The D.O.O.D.’s music. They try to change a little with every album without compromising who they are, and this release moves them forward while paying homage to some of their favorite metal influences. They hope listeners will find “Subterfuge” exciting and thought-provoking, all the while keeping things fun.

Established in 2004, The D.O.O.D. has steadily risen to prominence, captivating audiences with their unique blend of hard-hitting music and theatrical stage presence. With five studio albums under their belt, direct support for numerous national acts, and a standout performance at one of America’s largest music festivals, The D.O.O.D. is rapidly solidifying their place on the national stage. They are recommended for fans of Lamb of God, Pantera, and Avatar.

“Some bands are monsters in the studio. Others are killers on the stage. Occasionally, a select few pop up that are masters of video. The truly rare ones, however, are fully capable of blowing your senses in any medium they want. Sarasota’s own The D.O.O.D. (short-hand for The Distinguished Order of Disobedience) is firmly entrenched on that shortlist of acts that can (and will) snatch you by the hair and subject you to the thunder… in every way imaginable.” – BamRising – The Sound of the Underground

Omnivide, a progressive metal band formed in 2020, is on the cusp of releasing their debut album, “A Tale of Fire,” in March 2024. Comprising members with diverse musical influences, the band aimed to create a unique blend of progressive, death, and symphonic metal. The album is a musical journey, alternating between intense heaviness and beautiful, emotional sections. Omnivide seeks to offer listeners a complete experience, combining excitement, energy, and contrasting emotions throughout the album. The third single “Cosmic Convergence” takes the listener to the end of days, which the band explains in further detail:

“Lyrically, this song is about the Big Crunch, the opposite of the Big Bang, when astrophysicists predict that the universe will stop expanding and instead collapse on itself back to a single, infinitely small and dense point of matter. The lyrics describe this process in a poetic way in the first section of the song, with the final chorus shifting perspectives from that of the universe itself to a single human witnessing this process, with the lines ‘One final cry/Begging not to die/As all we are is swallowed by stars’.”

“Cosmic Convergence” was written by Samuel Frenette and is composed of some fast and technical riffs, some more straightforward, but all very melodic with heavy layers of orchestration, and a lot of clean vocals compared to most songs on the album. This song is extremely high-octane in a melancholic and epic way, that tries to communicate the sense of desperation and urgency of the lyrics, with the song being about the end of the universe.

Dark melodies, groovy punches, distorted chord progressions, screaming vocals, and melodic guitar solos are the key elements in this apocalyptic and epic song. It is recommended for all prog fans, especially those with an interest in Obscura, Alkaloid, and Devin Townsend.

Never Elected, one of Washington D.C.’s most captivating and electrifying acts, is set to rock the airwaves with their latest single “All My Life”, extracted from the re-released album “Turbulent” coming out on April 19th. The single is also a finalist in this year’s 2024 WAMMIES (Washington, D.C.’s version of the Grammy’s) for Best Hard Rock / Metal Single along with their other nominations for Best Hard Rock / Metal Band, and Best Hard Rock / Metal Album.

Known for their thought-provoking material centered around socio-political themes, Never Elected continues to leave an indelible mark on the music scene. “All My Life” follows the lived experiences of the protagonist, a flurry of emotions and rough times, set to catchy music that draws the listener in. The band shares a bit of the story within the track:

“All My Life begins with a rhyme that the artist’s grandma sang to him regularly, mocking his ugly looks as a toddler. It is an unfiltered outpouring of frustration directed at all those who have brought adversity into the artist’s life, spanning different periods and across various aspects. It is a brief rant on the hypocrisy and self-serving agendas exhibited by both, close and extended family.”

Watch and listen to the music video for “All My Life” via its premiere on New Noise Magazine HERE.

The re-released album “Turbulent” is a deep reflection of the tumultuous times experienced by the band’s vocalist. From rocking out to evoking tears, the audience’s reactions to the songs have been diverse and intense, showcasing the emotional depth of Never Elected‘s music.

Formed by the dynamic duo, Sujit Kumar and Altan Aydin, who share a common love for all things grunge and rock ‘n’ roll, the band also features Dr. T on melodic bass riffs and Wesley Meyer, the driving force behind the drums. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the band persevered, recording and releasing two singles and music videos that kept their fans engaged during a period of uncertainty.

Recommended for fans of Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, and Guns N’ Roses, Never Elected‘s “Turbulent” is due out on April 19th, 2024, and is available for pre-order at https://neverelected.bandcamp.com.

“It’s really about time that you “Wake Up” and start paying attention to the world around you, including the hard rockers known as Never Elected. The band has just released a visually-stimulating music video to accompany their recent single, a revved-up, riff-driven sonic assault that has been the band’s most successful track since its November 2019 release. “Wake Up” is a preview of what’s to come on the group’s next record which they have been hard at work on this year and are on the verge of completing. If it wasn’t already evident by its title and socio-politically themed lyrics, the hard-hitting music video for “Wake Up” illustrates the fact that the band is out to convey a serious message.” – V13

“After releasing the thought-provoking and socio-politically themed video for their song “Wake Up” last year, Washington, DC’s Never Elected is back with a new video for their song “Where You Belong”. The video touches on yet another serious topic. This time dealing with the struggles of mental health, a topic that is taboo to discuss openly in many cultures.” – All About The Rock

0 Canada’s MARBLE GHOSTS Drop New Video “False Heroes” For Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now!

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 1, 2024

Canada’s MARBLE GHOSTS Drop New Lyric Video “False Heroes” For Debut Self-Titled EP Out Now!

Dropping their debut self-titled EP this Friday, March 1st, Ottawa, Canada’s Marble Ghosts are presenting their latest video for their track “False Heroes”, the second to last song on the release that is a sludgy verse mixed with a towering harmony-laced chorus and a powerful, thundering instrumental end.

Lyrically, “False Heroes” is aimed at the institutions of old and those who continue to prop them up. Originally titled Marble Ghosts, the name was changed when the band realized that it was the perfect name for the band itself.

They explain further about the song:

“In the current culture, where some believe we should return to a golden past, False Heroes counters that with a resounding NO. The song seeks to eviscerate male privilege, divisive hateful religious figures, but most of all, the ghosts of the past, still seen as trailblazers and nation builders. Inspired by the dismantling of controversial statutes worldwide, but specifically, the downing of the statue of John A. MacDonald, Canada’s first PM and the architect of the residential school system, False Heroes is a warning against romanticizing and celebrating figures whose mindsets were at their core harmful and led in many cases to abusive and criminal acts.”

Watch and listen to the lyric video “False Heroes” via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

Recently emerging onto the Canadian metal scene with a distinctive sound and a fierce commitment to challenging societal norms, Marble Ghosts comprises a dynamic lineup that uniquely blends genres and generations, featuring a death metal drummer, an old-school metal bassist, a grunge-influenced singer, and a metalcore guitar player. This eclectic mix not only defines their sound but also underscores the band’s commitment to breaking musical boundaries.

Despite being a relatively new band, Marble Ghosts demonstrates a clear musical direction. Their first EP showcases five compelling songs that highlight their diverse influences and styles. As a band, they embrace generational differences, allowing their music to evolve organically as they grow more comfortable with each other.

Explaining the origin of their band name, Marble Ghosts draws inspiration from historical figures revered by some as pioneers and trailblazers but who also committed terrible crimes. The band seeks to call out the tradition that these effigies represent. Their music is recommended for fans of Shinedown, Saint Asonia, and Three Days Grace.

Marble Ghosts’ debut EP is due out on March 1, 2024.

Iceland’s Drungi channel the vast landscapes of their homeland into eerie and powerful metal that will evoke a variety of emotions and cast the listener into folklore accompanied by exciting music. They are releasing their debut album “Hamfarir Hugans” on April 5th and the first look is with the single “Alda” (Wave), which is out now on YouTube. The band had the following today about this release:

“Alda was the first official single off our upcoming debut album. Having been in the back of our bassist’s head for numerous years he presented it to the band and something clicked in everyone’s mind. Following the intense feeling of drowning in one’s emotion and the sometimes suicidal feelings one has following a downforce of emotion, the song emphasizes that feeling with a rhythm pushing the oceanic feeling forward.”

The band continues to say that the flow of writing for “Alda” was significantly faster than most of their other songs and it spoke to them in a way that many others had not and thus it received the first single spot along with the first track of the album. It was something they knew right away would be a song worth sharing with the masses. The suicidal imagery of the songs comes from the Icelandic saying “Að ganga í sjóinn” or “walking into the ocean”, which is still to this day a form of suicide practiced in Iceland. Something each member of the band can connect to.

Drungi, formed in 2019, is comprised of Sjafnar Björgvinsson on vocals, Rúnar Gunnarsson on lead guitar, Loki Gunnarsson on rhythm guitar, Magnús Ólafsson on bass, and Sandra Bergþórsdóttir on drums. The band has been on a steady rise, captivating audiences with their unique blend of rock, black‘n‘roll, and doom. Having played notable festivals such as Lemmy Rock Festival 2022 and Culture Night 2022, Drungi has become a force to be reckoned with in the Icelandic music scene.
