BLACK ABSINTHE Announce Ontario Tour Dates + New Music Video ‘Witness’

Toronto’s BLACK ABSINTHE announce they will be hitting the road in April and May for show dates in Oshawa, Toronto, London, and Ottawa (dates listed below). The mini Ontario tour is in support of their latest single / music video ‘Witness’ that the trio released in follow up to their 2016 breakout album “Early Signs of Denial” that was produced by Dave Baksh (Sum 41, Black Cat Attack). The album garnered praise from respectable outlets such as Bravewords “The record has emphasis of crushing modern tone, polished instrumental sections, soaring vocals and a blending of contemporary and classic metal.” and Blabbermouth “BLACK ABSINTHE does quite a bit within each of their songs, wrangling together bits of metal theories from yesteryear and today. Classic metal, power metal, death metal, thrash, it’s all dosed out like party pills for headbangers.”  along with topping the Canadian College Radio National Loud Charts at #7 for July 2016 (Earshot).

The band adds:

“Hey we’re back on the road all over Ontario this Spring. We’re excited to presenting audiences with new tracks to take for a roll in the moshpit before finalizing them for recording. We want to hear and see what gets you going and what our fans want to hear from Black Absinthe in the future!”

The music video for “Witness” can be viewed HERE along with it on Spotify, Bandcamp and Apple Music.

Show Dates:
April 10 – Oshawa, ON – The Atria w/ Pink Cocoon, Sun Below
April 11 – Toronto, ON – Duffy’s Tavern w/ Pink Cocoon, Cherry Hooker
April 22 – London, ON – Call The Office w/ Chris Holmes and The Mean Men
April 25 – Toronto, ON – Duffy’s Tavern w/ Leather Up Your Ass
May 16 – Toronto, ON – Hard Luck Bar w/ Metallian, Ammo
May 22 – Ottawa, ON – Dominion Tavern w /JunkOwl, Doom & Blue

BLACK ABSINTHE‘s new single “Witness” was recorded in the backwoods of Lac-des-Loups, QC at Wolf Lake Studios with producer Alexander Galley (Loviatar, Dissentient, Martyrs). Representing a new generation of heavy music producers, Galley’s enthusiasm, knowledge, and openness confirmed he would bring a cutting edge sensibility to the band’s recording of the track. A forward-thinking producer with an ear to the ground of the emerging sounds of heavy music, his direction for guitar and bass tone for the song was a vision all his own. Reminiscent of the classic metal philosophy and in an intense ten-hour blitz, BLACK ABSINTHE went into the studio knowing they wanted to record the song in its entirety and bask in the completed performance. Equipped with an Ayotte house-kit in the studio, Austin Henderson laid down drum tracks to set the foundation of the track for the session. Following, bassist Kyle Scarlett and guitarist Jack Cerre both tuned up and recorded with their stage Fenders. Housing exceptional gear, BLACK ABSINTHE utilized the studio’s Kemper Profiler and boutique bass gear (Darkglass Electronics).

Guitarist and lead vocalist Jack Cerre comments:

“All in all the experience was exhilarating, especially under pressure, our preparation paid off because the recording captures a true performance and urgency.”

The video for the single “Witness” was shot at Toronto heavy metal venue Coalition T.O just months before its unfortunate closure. The venue itself holds a very dear spot in the metal hearts of the band as they lived and performed just steps away from it for the last four years, meeting local and touring bands along with rocking out their own relentless run of shows.

Trusting Katherine Kwan, “The Wild” (2017) director to encapsulate the energy felt in the band’s live performances. The video begins with a glimpse into what a night at their local and beloved punk/metal Kensington Market venue was like. From the bright pit footage to the intoxicating strobe saturated drum breakdown – the single is represented in the best and most chaotic way possible.

“The insanity of the front row has been the proving grounds of Black Absinthe’s sound, and the foreground to this video.” The band adds. “Live shows took the placeholder for releasing music over the past three years, and the energy in this video is how you will always find us live. We want this video to transcend people who have been there while offering a snapshot of underground metal venues found across the globe.” adds the band.

About:

Formed in the underground dungeons and dives of Toronto’s metal scene, Black Absinthe is a Canadian modern heavy metal band consisting of Jack Cerre (guitar, vocals), Kyle Scarlett (bass), and Austin Henderson (drums). A mix of thrashing mosh pits and riff-heavy anthems, their growing presence in the diverse heavy music scene, unifies classic metal grandeur, speed-demon rhythm sections, soaring solos, with modern technicality.

Since 2011, Black Absinthe has performed, recorded, and brought the party all over Canada. Over the course of three EP’s & one LP, Early Signs of Denial, Black Absinthe has continued to grow and experiment on its NWOBHM influences while maintaining the intensity of the genre. As they continue to expand their setlists in 2019 and tour in both new and familiar places, the band is set to release their latest studio recording, Witness, a riff-strong single inspired by the band’s energetic live stage performances. With plenty of live material to work within the studio, the band shows no signs of slowing down and plans to release more material in the coming year.

0 Halifax’s TURBO Kick Nitro Rock Into Full Gear w/ Single ‘Alive’ via Bravewords

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – March 3, 2020

For fans of Motorhead, W.A.S.P., Kill Cheerleader, Pantera, Black Sabbath

Halifax’s TURBO Kick Nitro Rock Into Full Gear w/ Single ‘Alive’

Cruising in from the Canadian Maritimes is TURBO, brandishing their signature brand of potent “Nitro-Rock”. To introduce this onslaught of riffs and madness to the world, they are releasing their debut album “Fast As Fvck” later this year and kicking the party off with the single ‘Alive’.

Between them, the members of TURBO have played every loud-music genre there is to name and these experiences have worked together to shape the current sound with an emphasis on rock and punk. These genres formed the base for their planned debut full length, which TURBO explains in their own words:

“Fast as Fvck is a sort of homage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums. The album ebbs and flows through different moods and subtleties with sophisticated craftsmanship.”

Coined as a gateway drug into the gritty rock-and-roll lifestyle, it’s raw, real and punches full of passion. The in your face attitude that radiates from the album, is translated into the stage presence of the group and they quote:

“Alive, which is more or less a written testament to bad-decisions with one of the most badass riffs on the album slapped on top of it. The song features a call-and-response guitar harmony and an anthemic chorus. There’s not too much more to say on it apart from being among the most fun songs on the album; definitely one to do a keg stand along to.”

Recommended for those who like W.A.S.P., Motorhead and Guns n’ Roses, fans that take interest in this fresh record shouldn’t have to wait too long for another dose, as writing has commenced for more tunes to follow once the debut album is out.

Listen to ‘Alive’ via its premiere on Bravewords HERE.

About:

Like your disheveled uncle on Christmas morning, Turbo is trashed, pissed off, sleazy, mean, and sick of your shit. Coming at you hard and fast from the east coast of Canada, rages Turbo. An eclectic mix of rock, punk, and metal, this is what would happen if nitroglycerin had a soundtrack. High impact is the name of the game for them and they are bringing the grit to listeners around the world.

With 100% collaborative effort, the themes that fuel Turbo lyrics revolve around personal experiences or things that just come up while they’re writing the music to a particular piece. The focus is that all the bandmates are able to relate to everything they sing about. It’s real, edgy, and visceral.

The highly potent debut album “Fast as Fvck” is on the way for 2020; metal enough for the heshers, punk enough for the threshers, and rocking enough to satiate the haughtiest of purests; welcome to Turbo’s patented “Nitro-Rock”.

Halifax punk rockers The Bloody Hell share their latest music video ‘Evil Everywhere’. The video is the band’s answer to Billy Joel’s classic social commentary hit “We Didn’t Start the Fire”. This is The Bloody Hell‘s scathing yet tough and cheek commentary on today’s current culture’s decline, combined with a hard-hitting and impactful video (that was originally banned by YouTube).

The band adds:

“The video is sure to get your heart pumping, your toes tapping and the mind racing. It’s not safe for work, and not for the faint of heart.”

Watch ‘Evil Everywhere’ here: https://youtu.be/Hx8O-0kmu9c

The single ‘Evil Everywhere‘ comes from the 2018 self-titled album, which exemplifies the band’s goal to create a fun and interesting listening experience for their fans that is full of twists and turns, highs and lows. They explain what one can expect at a live gig:

“We try to incorporate the themes into our live set as well, and always have surprises for the audience like props, guests on stage, lighting or video setups. Also, we focus a lot on melody and always have a lyrical hook so there is ample opportunity for the audience to sing along which I think is not very typical of satanic three-chord punk bands”

Formed in 2017, The Bloody Hell have gotten dirtier and more polished at the same time, with the band having got much better at writing hooks and concepts, while the guitars got louder and the vocals got uglier.

Suitable for a variety of fans, The Bloody Hell cites influences ranging from Misfits, Nirvana and Motorhead, anyone who enjoys a fun and dirty romp through catchy hooks and grungy vocals.

The Bloody Hell‘s debut self-titled album is available on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify.

“What if all those hooks, melodies and chord structures you love about classic rock were covered in distortion; the lyrics screamed bloody murder and the songs were played at punk rock speed? A satanic sonic assault on the ears, comprised of concepts covering heartache, substance abuse, death and the occult, drenched in feedback and overflowing with blazing guitar solos.”

That is how The Bloody Hell describes their music and with the release of their video from ‘Out Of Our Minds’ that crazy debauchery takes on a visual form. The highly creative and slightly NSFW video depicts the archetypal punk rock lifestyle lived out through plastic dolls and is accompanied by the rockin’ punk tune.

The single ‘Out Of Our Minds’ comes from the 2018 self-titled album, which exemplifies the band’s goal to create a fun and interesting listening experience for their fans that is full of twists and turns, highs and lows. They explain what one can expect at a live gig:

TwitterBio:

Page 38 is a young, tough, and gritty original hard rock band from Thunder Bay, Ontario. The four-piece group fuses respect for the past with modern-day energy and drive and makes music for partiers looking for good times. Inspired by icons like AC/DC, Judas Priest, Airborne, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, and Motley Crue, Page 38 began in 2012 when the members were just 13 and made its bones in the all-ages scene.

An EP, Rock N Roll You, dropped in 2015 and a full-length effort, Swingin’ From The Ceilin’, in 2018. A new EP called Burning The Midnight Oil is slated for June of 2019 and those close to the group expect it to take Page 38 to a much larger audience. A tour of Western Canada and Southern Ontario will follow.

The current lineup of Andy Hubbard on bass and lead vocals, Taylor Nicholl on drums, and Jacob Goodman and Noah Anderson on guitars displays the tightly-knit chemistry all great rock bands have and that connection fuels every song Page 38 creates. The group is the only youthful act in its region playing this brand of rock and roll and does it with the authority and swagger of house-rocking veterans.

Page 38 has the balls needed to put the hard-edged, unapologetic attitude back into the rock scene as only a young band can and has a sound and show that can move any crowd in the world. True fans of the horsepower and brilliance of real rock music need to discover Page 38 tonight.

“If you put a young James Hetfield in front of Motörhead, Sabbath, or Mötley Crüe, you would have Page 38.” – Canadain Beats

“Burning The Midnight Oil starts off strong and never lets up” – Sleaze Roxx

For fans of Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Mastodon, High On Fire, Coheed and Cambria

BLACK ABSINTHE Premiere New Video “The Wild” via Bravewords

EP Out Now “Early Signs of Denial”

BLACK ABSINTHE‘s powerful heavy riffs and bass lines are reminiscent of classic thrash and new wave British heavy metal with a range of progressive to classic rock influence. Surfacing from the basement last year, the Toronto, ON heavy metal trio unleashed their debut album “Early Signs of Denial” produced by Sum 41’s Dave Baksh (Cross Dog, The Mahones) plus was mixed and mastered by Frank Gryner (Rob Zombie- Hillbilly Deluxe). The album was the band’s first professional recording to follow their three self recorded EPs Live At Coalition (2014), Noise Complaint (2014) and Augusta (2012).

Taking a break from relentless touring of Ontario and Quebec during this summer, the band shot their latest video “The Wild” on the shores of Lake Ontario, inviting friends and fans to join them on a pirate ship where the outcome was rocking the boat, walking the plank and one hell of a party!

Teaming up with Bravewords.com, the band is proud to exclusively premiere “The Wild” at the following link: http://www.bravewords.com/news/exclusive-black-absinthe-premier-the-wild-video

The band comments on the video:

“We are excited to showcase our new video, ‘The Wild’, for fans both new and old. This song is the headbanging party track off our latest album ‘Early Signs Of Denial’ and we wanted a video to reflect that intensity. So we gathered a crew of our fans and friends from the Toronto music scene, rented a pirate themed boat intended for children, prepared and consumed some pre-sailing cocktails, and played a live show for all on board. The video was shot by Toronto based videographer/photographer Katherine Kwan (IG: kawaiiathy) who did a fantastic job capturing the look and spirit of what we wanted for the song as well as showcasing some great shots of the city skyline. The day, the show, and all the people involved with the video we say thank you! And for the rest of you, turn it up, grab a drink, and enjoy ‘The Wild’!”

“Produced by Sum 41’s Dave Baksh, the new record serves as both a cleaner and heavier presentation of the sound the band have been honing since their formation in 2011. Running six tracks in length, the LP explores fear, corruption and overcoming disparity within their blend of classic and contemporary metal stylings.” – Exclaim!

“The whole record is classic metal & deserves to catapult this band over the wall & into the rooms of many. This is a band that doesn’t know the meaning of the words over play. Everything is understated, controlled & precise. Black Absinthe are not trying to re-invent the wheel but add a new spoke.” – All About The Rock

“It is one quite impressive EP that goes all out to impress. It is hard to imagine that just three guys could make such an impact, but they do! Quite a robust six tracker that is distinct and captivating!” – RAM Zine

“From the opening track “The Wild” to “Pigs” to my personal favorite “Winter” the band works their way through everything from classic rock all the way to hardcore…What Black Absinthe does is make music that comes across live; music that will bring a crowd to their feet, but contemplate the lyrics after the show is all said and done. It’s a tricky feat to bring that across on a studio recording. “Early Signs of Denial” nails it and shows the band must be a great time on stage.” – We Love Metal

About:

Japan’s SOLITUDE was formed in 1996, when two ex-members of SACRIFICE (Japan)*, the founding member and main composer Akira Sugiuchi <vo> and the bass player on two of their albums Toru Nishida, met ex-RIP RIDE guys of Yasuo Koyano <ds> and Hiroki Nakamori <g>. The guys kept on rehearsing for as long as 3 years, composing songs and forging the foundation of the band. With Heavy Metal as its core, their sound has tastes of various music as if to show that they have been influenced by various different styles of music, such as 70’s Hard Rock, Progressive Rock, and most notably NWOBHM, among others.

In 1998, they picked up “SOLITUDE” as the name of the band, and they played live for the first time in March 1999. This debut live was reported through fanzines and the internet, with such praises as “the birth of the new Defenders of Heavy Metal” or “the answer to what Heavy Metal is”. In September, Shingo Ida (ex-BARTOLOMMEO) replaced Nakamori, and his distinctive style of melodic guitars has brought a new blood into the band. In November, they recorded two songs, “Virtual Image” and “Eagle Fly”, latter of which was dedicated to their favorite British Heavy Metal band, SAXON. This recording was used for promotion as “SOLITUDE Demo ’99”.

In July 2000, the band started recording an album, and the recording carried on until December as the band aimed at the highest quality they could achieve. Their debut album “Virtual Image” was finally released on 5th of September, 2001 as the first-ever release of SPIRITUAL BEAST, who would later grow to one of the leading independent Heavy Metal labels in Japan. The album got rave reviews from the underground fanzines and webzines, not just in Japan but in the US and throughout Europe, and requests for interviews flooded in. The reaction was especially overwhelming in Germany, owing to the sampler CD called “Metal Crusade” from “Heavy oder was!?” magazine, which featured the title track “Virtual Image”.

Koyano left the band prior to the release of the album, but the band continued touring with the help from Suguru Kobayashi (ex-CASBAH), sharing the stage with various bands from OUTRAGE, RAGING FURY or METALUCIFER to DEFILED and SIGH. In July 2003, having added Tai Syouda (ex-GUARDIAN’S NAIL, now leading his own band, SEVENTH SON) as a permanent drummer, they flew to Germany to play at “Headbangers Open Air”, where they shared the stage with veterans like BLITZKRIEG, TRESPASS, and KILLER (Belgium) as well as youngsters like STORMWARRIOR, CRYONIC TEMPLE and DOOMSWORD. Their performance was praised by various media, with German “Rock Hard” magazine describing them as “the highlight of the festival”. The fact that many metalheads kept on chanting for SOLITUDE for a while after they left the stage proves the impact they had.

In 2004, they started preparing for a new album, and first recorded “Rainbow Theme” – “Frozen Rainbow” for a SAXON tribute album “Eagleution – A Tribute to Saxon”, put together by Remedy Records in Germany. The recording continued while the band played selected gigs like “Duryu Rock Festival” in Korea (with JURASSIC JADE from Japan, MINDFLOW from Brazil etc), or first-ever opportunity to play in Sapporo, Hokkaido, but their uncompromising attitude and various personal issues of each member delayed the whole process more than they had expected.

The recording, carried out at various points, was finally over and while they were waiting the mixing to be done, at the end of 2008, Syouda decided to leave the band. In February 2009, the remaining 3 guys participated in a NWOBHM cover event “Denim And Leather” as “SOLITUDE with Mad Ohuchi”, featuring none other than Takamasa “Mad” Ohuchi of ex-ANTHEM fame on drums. This resulted in Ohuchi joining SOLITUDE as a permanent member later that year.

In December 2009, after 8 years from the debut album, the long-awaited (literally!) new album “Brave the Storm” finally hit the stores. Like its predecessor, the album was produced by Fuyuhiko Inui, ex-band mate of Ida, who has been involved in various recordings as engineer/producer from BUCK-TICK or CHARA to MAVERICK. The mastering duty was handled by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (THE AGONIST, MASTODON etc).

In January 2011, the band toured Korea and Japan with Swedish sensation Enforcer, with Mean Streak also added for the Japanese dates. In September, “Brave the Storm” was released in Europe on Fastball Music in Germany, proving their growing popularity in the mainland Europe. In July 2012, the band helped set up a Japan tour for Canada’s Skull Fist, and toured with them and Widow from US. In 2013, they co-hosted the “Japanese Assault Fest”, sharing the stage with GIRLSCHOOL, VEKTOR, FASTKILL, AIR RAID etc.

In April 2014, the band finally started recording a new album. Looking for the kind of sound production they grew up listening, they went into a closed movie theater in Gotenba, Shizuoka, where they brought in the recording equipments, just like Deep Purple did in a hotel; Rainbow did in an old castle etc in the 70’s. With the great ambience and the environment to allow you to play as loud as you want, the place was later modified into a proper recording studio called “Tapestry Recording Studio”. The band appeared at the “Japanese Assault Fest” two years in a row (SATAN, HEAVY TIGER, MIDNIGHT MALICE, ETERNAL ELYSIUM etc) later that year.

The album was mixed and mastered at Pama Studios in Sweden, by Magnus “Mankan” Sedenberg and Magnus “Maxe” Axelsson respectively, who had worked with such bands as BULLET and CRUCIFIED BARBARA. The stunning artwork was painted by the Italian artist Velio Josto, who had done covers for WARLORD, MEDIEVAL STEEL, OSTROGOTH among others. The album “Reach for the Sky” will be released on SPIRITUAL BEAST in June 2015, and the band will be extensively touring throughout Japan for the rest of the year, starting in Nagoya in August.

*SACRIFICE (Japan) was one of the leading bands in the Japanese thrash/underground scene from their formation in 1985 until disbanding in 1992, and they left a lot of impacts on young and upcoming bands then and even now. During their career, they released three studio albums, “Crest of Black” (1987), “Total Steel” (1990) and “Tears” (1992) and shared the stage with SODOM (Germany), NUCLEAR ASSAULT (USA), CASBAH, OUTRAGE, UNITED (all from Japan) among many others. They once featured Shinji “Samm” Tachi of ex-SABBAT on drums, who later formed MAGNESIUM and also joined his brother in METALUCIFER. SACRIFICE has recently reunited under the lineup of Sugiuchi <vo>, Nishida <b>, Tachi <ds> and Temis Osmond <g> of ex-SABBAT fame.

THE PRESS GANG Offer Free David Bowie Tribute Track ‘Dagger For The Eye’ via PureGrainAudio

THE PRESS GANG recently released their fifth studio album ‘Medusa 5’ via their indie label Wiener Dogs. The ten track release showcases one of Calgary’s most talked about bands and their blend of heavy riffing punk, heavy metal and hard rock. Teaming up with PureGrainAudio.com, these rabble-rousers are offering fans a free download of ‘Dagger In The Eye’, the album’s first track and homage to one of the world’s greatest musical geniuses David Bowie.

Vocalist / guitarist Colin McCulloch comments:

“One of my biggest musical influences was David Bowie. His passing, and the way he checked out with his final album was nothing short of spellbinding, inspiring, and very humbling. This song is a tribute to the man and his work ethic, and a brute reminder that we are all indeed mortal. Life is short. Sing your OWN song, make your OWN mark upon the world. Let this be a call to arms to do just that each and every one of us. What this man did with his life creatively is staggering.”

About:

Formed in 2006, lead-vocalist Colin McCulloch explains how he named the band. ‘In history class I learned what a Press Gang was. When a ship was low on personnel they’d sail into a port, and send to shore a Press Gang, a band of men with the intent of ‘pressing’ men into service to replenish the crew. They’d often wait outside a pub for local drunkards, whom they’d crack over the head and stuff into a burlap sack. When the poor sod would wake up, he’d be at sea, part of the new crew! That, to me, sounded like how an aggressive band should gain new fans.’

Lyrically, The Press Gang draws on the state of the world around us, observing wisely. ‘A lot of the songs are metaphors for the state of affairs regarding the human condition. Especially of late with the continuing trend of Political Correctness being perverted into what is today increasingly the divide with Neo Liberalism and the Right Wing and its ever-changing redefinition of terms. It’s a massive grey area, and while we have all the tools to better communicate, it would seem we do less and less of it successfully. The screen has no quality over actual human interaction and tone of voice.’

While this fifth album ‘MEDUSA-5’ released on October 12th, 2016 shows the band at the top of their game, live they slay! ‘We like to engage the crowds and employ our early punk ethic strategy…We like to string them together like a 1,2,3 punch, give them a small chance to breathe and hit ‘em again immediately with another three songs in a row. Playing our material with the utmost intensity is always our goal for a live show. People will remember catchy riff and songs, but they’ll really remember when you kick their ass with sonic force!’

“The Press Gang knows how: loud riffs and never knowing when to quit.” – Beatroute

“…high energy, fun and really refreshing to hear.” – Absolute Underground

“Optimal Running Speed is a straight-up, hard rock album garnished with a metal-punk twist. Heavy guitar riffs, accompanied by raspy, harmonized vocals cover the metal influence; the underlining quick tempo is pure punk. At first listen, it may not seem as raw as their previous albums as there’s less grit than featured on earlier recordings.” – Beatroute
