Saudi One Man Prog DUSK Shares First Single “Lethal Perspectives” ft. Aaron Harris (Solemn Vision)

New Album “Spectrums” Out February 2023

Saudi Arabia’s one-man prog metal unit DUSK (from the mind of Meshari Sangora) is unveiling the first single “Lethal Perspectives” ft. Aaron Harris (Solemn Vision) from the upcoming full-length entitled “Spectrums”. The album follows two previously unleashed EPs “To Where I Belong” (2021) and “Ascension” (2020) along with multiple stand-alone singles that were used to introduce the project’s music to the world in 2020.

The album’s first single talks about someone who suffers from Megalomania and is a message to remind them that they are not a god. DUSK goes into further detail about how the track came to be.

“I got to know Aaron Harris, the vocalist for Solemn Vision from my friend Gigi Arabia of Heavy Arabia. She pitched Aaron to me when we were looking for a vocalist for Lethal Perspective, and as soon as I heard Aaron’s vocals I knew he was a perfect fit for the album. He’s got a raw scream that can really get you hyped! and with what I had in mind for songs on the album, I knew that he be the right fit and he sure did deliver vocally and lyrically 100 percent!”

The single can be heard at https://youtu.be/rcOw6G0VgKE

Digital (Spotify, Bandcamp, Apple Music) – https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/dusk14/lethal-perspectives-feat-aron-harris

For “Spectrums”, DUSK recruited various many guests such as Saudi musicians Khalid C (Entropia) and Abdulrahman Elghazali (who was a featured guest on EP ‘To Where I Belong”) along with international artists such as Aaron Harris of the New York death metal based band Solemn Vision and the great Jaani Peuhu, previously known as a member of Swallow The Sun and his current band Ianai. The album features 12 tracks and is a multi-lingual expression with various songs sung by its contributors in English, German, Finnish, and Arabic.

DUSK comments on the forthcoming album:

“As a musician and one of the pioneers in the local Saudi Scene, I wanted to bring more creativity to the game and make this project an inspiration standpoint to the new upcoming bands and musicians who look up to me both locally and internationally, so right then and there, I decided to make this album into two different themes, something that will speak to every music lover out there, from the heavy and raw guitar tones to the Synth-ish spacy sounds that ease the listener to a very dynamic and emotional ride.”

Once a college DJ in UAE, that time in his life lead to his rediscovery of all forms of metal and was just the beginning of creating his own music as a self-taught musician and producer. DUSK created the new album to be listened to as Side A and Side B. The first half of the album (Side A) is aggressively sounding, and more guitar-focused and has a build-up of more hostility to each track while the listener moves forward. The second half (Side B) aims for a new sound from DUSK infusing more of the electric/EDM-ish sound where it’s more focused and digitized sounding and widely more appealing to the non-metal listener, all while keeping the same aggression level building up with each track.

“I wanted to bring more to the table and make this album a possible gateway to new audiences and perhaps fans from both sides, the metal heads & the non-metal listeners. I think all people who enjoy music will be interested in it, with all that has been added and all the different genres mixed in. What I’m trying to do with this record is to make everyone experience their own feelings and their own journey, the topics for this project are big and very stretched, some of the topics deal with real issues like betrayal and disposition, Love, Hate, and Hope.” adds DUSK

Recommended for fans of Currents, Born of Osiris, Novelists, and Deftones, along with everything under the vein of progressive metal, metalcore, and djent, “Spectrums” will be released on all digital platforms including vinyl on February 17th, 2023.

The album was fully written & recorded at Dusk’s studio with the mixing and mastering done by Tom Haberland of Crushing Waves Studio. Album artwork created by Giannis Nakos from Remedy Studios.

NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – December 22, 2022

Shores Of Null Begin Another Gloomy Chapter With “Nothing Left To Burn”

New Album “The Loss Of Beauty” Out March 2023

Rome’s Shores of Null has a fourth album coming out next year, to expand their discography of melancholic doom. “The Loss Of Beauty” goes back to the usual full-length structure with different tracks, after the immersive experience of 2020’s “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)”, which consisted of a single 38-minute track. Each of the upcoming singles released in anticipation of the release are accompanied by a series of videos by Sanda Movies. The first single is “Nothing Left To Burn”, which the band comments on:

“This song was originally written in 2018 and recorded in 2019, with the intent of releasing it the next year, but then we changed our minds and released “Beyond The Shores” instead. So this song was kept secret until today, almost frozen in time, and it’s so cathartic to be finally sharing it with you, both song and video, which is by far the most complex visual piece we’ve ever done, and for this, we must thank Martina and the Sanda Movies crew for the amazing work. It is a song about the burden of life, its endless struggles, and suffering, with the awareness that our existence is only transitory”.

Those who have been following Shores Of Null from the very beginning know that their influences touch many genres, and those who loved “Quiescence” and “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” won’t be disappointed. The band considers “The Loss Of Beauty” to be the natural evolution of those records, while “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” represents a slight detour from the main road. Those who have known them from “Beyond The Shores” might find this new offering a bit different, faster in tempo, but still very gloomy and melancholic.

“The Loss Of Beauty” is melancholic dark metal with a wide range of influences, from gothic metal to doom metal and melodic black/death metal, with frequent use of vocal harmonies and deep growls. It is recommended for fans of Paradise Lost, Amorphis, and Enslaved.

“The Loss Of Beauty” is due out March 24th, 2023.

About: Shores of Null stand out from their contemporaries with their ability to blend seemingly disparate elements into their sound, overwhelmingly heavy and soothing at the same time: blackened aggression stands alongside gothic-doom sections without either sounding out of place. Their music can be both melancholic yet majestic, made of chorale-like guitar textures across the instrument’s entire range, sustained by a powerful rhythmic section and punctuated by a refined mixture of clean and growled vocals, along with extensive use of pleasing vocal harmonies which have become the band’s trademark through the years.

The Rome-based metal band has been an unwavering presence within the metal underground since their musical outset in 2013, churning out three impressive records: the melodic and somber “Quiescence” (Candlelight, 2014), the darker and more complex “Black Drapes For Tomorrow” (Candlelight/Spinefarm, 2017), and finally their most ambitious work to date “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)” (Spikerot Records, 2020), a 38-minute long opus which continues to prove the band’s willingness to go off the beaten path while creating their ultimate doom manifesto.

The band’s fourth album “The Loss Of Beauty”, recorded during the same sessions of “Beyond The Shores”, is expected to be released in March of 2023.

Shores of Null continues to impress and expand upon their doomy sound. An epic-length track worthy to sit amongst the best of these ventures (Edge of Sanity, Insomnium). Emotionally fulfilling and musically satisfying all at once.” – Dead Rhetoric (Best-of 2020)

“this album definitely is one of the best Doom Metal pieces I had the pleasure to look at in 2020. Once you plunge into its astonishing flow, there will be no escape from that majestic march through soaring soundscapes to those tear-drenched horizons.” – Rock Music Raider (Best of 2020)

“it’s certainly ambitious (video for “Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying)”), but if you have the time, it’s worth the watch. Steeped in quality and excellent videography, it definitely deserves the attention for the amount of effort used.” – Metal Injection

“Shores of Null rolled the dice with Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying) and delivered in a big fucking way… Shores of Null have crafted something special; a heart-wrenchingly emotive and beautiful journey of sorrow, anguish, pain, and acceptance. Beyond the Shores (On Death and Dying) is a splendidly sombre, brilliantly written opus of commanding death-doom that demands attention.” – Teeth of The Divine

“this album is phenomenal, both in terms of concept and its monumental delivery… with this magnum opus [Shores Of Null] have proved their position front and centre as depressed doom-titans…” – The Sleeping Shaman

“Beyond The Shores (On Death and Dying)” is a near perfect, monumental achievement of doom. I can’t imagine any fan of the style not finding something here to enjoy.” – Metal Temple

“An enchanting, gloomy opus.” – Moshville Times

“A single track of incredibly well-realised melodic doom metal, layered with all sorts of treats and nuanced delivery.” – Wonderbox Metal

“A piece of delicious despair, delivered on a platter of storm-ridden and excellently executed Doom Metal. A record that left anybody else in the genre in 2020 quaking in their wake.” – Rock Music Raider

“their most intricate and brooding work to date… grandiose emotional impact.” – Metal Storm

Canadian orchestral metal ensemble Opus Arise (ft. members of Svneatr, Thousand Arrows, Ysgaroth) released their sophomore album “The Network” on December 2nd. The cyberpunk concept record brings together classical strings and metal rhythms to create luscious soundscapes to dissonant chaos. To send listeners on a journey into their “Electric Jungle”, they are sharing with fans a new visualizer for the track via its premiere on Metal-Rules HERE.

The band explains the storyline behind the track and the album:

“The plot of this album is a CyberPunk-inspired world. Research involving chord progressions that manipulate space and time. Our main character does research involving the Progressive Frequency Phenomenon. He has never found proof it existed, but his studies involved finding this evidence, as well as aiming to gain control of it. Many years into his research, he comes across the inner skepticism progression, and this is where his journey begins.

The “Electric Jungle” track is about the protagonist learning that character 1 is also from a different space time, and the electric jungle opening progression was the one he used in one of his compositions back in his time. When he played it for the first time after composing it in 1976, a wormhole brought him here as well. He didn’t know what had happened, so he eventually accepted this as his fate and had given up hope of returning. He called it the electric jungle because of the scenery in the place they are in; there is lots of advanced circuitry, electronic billboards, holograms, etc. Now he has faith in the protagonist’s research, it is their only hope of returning to their time space. After finding a network substation and stalking around, they notice several network users with their FOB-type holograms that immediately grant them access. The protagonist’s knowledge of computer science has allowed him to steal the encoded digital lock from the unsuspecting users. All he has to do is turn the electronic data into combinations of frequencies and play it back in front of the substation.”

Vancouver’s Opus Arise‘s newest album, “The Network” teleports listeners into a cyberpunk world filled with neon lights and punctuated with progressive riffs. The eight-track record is just over forty minutes in length, it was produced and mastered by Maor Appelbaum; mixed by Ryan Shepard, and the album artwork was done by Daniel Reyes. The nine players on the album bring forth their skills on guitar, cello, bass, drums, violin, keyboards, viola, and contrabass in a sometimes collaborative effort, which is primarily composed and scored by Matthew Logan and Matthew Hannah. The writing and the recording have been in the works for some time, the drums were recorded in a mansion back in 2018 where the original rehearsal space was, and the same location was used to film the music videos for the singles “Reminiscence”, “Change” and “Inner Skepticism”.

“The Network” has a modern metal influence and different composers from their first album. It is best described as orchestral neo-classical instrumental progressive metal. Fans who enjoy Powerglove, Scale The Summit, and Animals As Leaders should be the first to dive into a futuristic world where one’s existence is questioned.

“The Network” is available at Opusarise.bandcamp.com, Spotify.

Streaming Now! Canada’s THE WRING Release Concise, Humble Progressive Album “Spectra”

New Album “Spectra” Out Dec 16th, 2022 via WormHoleDeath Records

The Wring, hailing from Sudbury, Canada is proud to be releasing their third album “Spectra”, which is an assertive mix of different styles including hard rock, jazz, metal, classical, 80’s rock, and 70’s rock. Solo artist Don Dewulf brought the idea to a myriad of professional players to form the full-length and the wide range of influences are apparent on the record with a vivid progressive sound that is tight, concise, and well-executed with interesting melody, rhythm, and lyrical themes. He comments on the album:

“I am very proud of the compositions on this album. Prog music can tend to be grandiose; I wanted this album to be the opposite of that. I like to think that the guitar parts are interesting and somewhat unique and span a very wide range of styles, influences, and execution. The vocals come straight out of the 80s with great melody and delivery, offering a very grounded counterpoint to the, often, odd time and melody structure. There are also keyboards hidden in the mix that offer an almost subliminal base on which everything else is built. The cover has a cool 70’s vibe that is simple but offers a depth of meaning that will be very personal to each observer; a reflection of the musical content within.”

Dewulf is local to Sudbury, Canada, and the project is his vision. In order to see it through, he hired Marco Minnemann – a world-renowned drummer, member of The Aristocrats, and successful solo artist who is one of the best rock/prog drummers in the world. Chandler Mogel – amazing singer with a great 80’s vibe who has performed with a ton of bands and projects. Reggie Hache – a Canadian bass superstar who does his own thing and contributed incredible parts for this album and Isamu McGregor – a session keyboard player with great vision and feel.

“Spectra” was produced by Don Dewulf, mixed by Francis Perron at Radicart Studios, mastered by Yannick St-Amand, and the album artwork was done by Gord Woolley.

The performances are tight and meaningful covering a wide range of approaches, but still cohesive and very accessible for any kind of listener. They are recommended listening for fans of Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and Rush.

Listen to “Spectra” in full via its premiere on MetalInsider HERE.

“Spectra” is due out on December 16, 2022, via WormHoleDeath Records.

“Here’s one for prog dorks. This outfit’s third outing (Spectra) features drums by Marco Minnemann so you know the rhythms are mad. The regulars in the band ain’t slouches either though. This is intricate and melodic prog done well.” – Metal Injection

““Wring² Project Cipher comes with a heavy, classic rock feel, but there’s an epic, questing nature to tunes like Sorceress, Steelier and Dose that pushes The Wring beyond metal norms and into prog territory.” – Prog Magazine

“The extreme professionalism on display throughout this entire album, although a labour of love, is a true master class of musicianship performed by musicians who are truly at the top of their game, making the industry what it is today. The sheer attention to detail is a credit to each and every performer as they tailor their craft neatly and precisely throughout every track, with nothing less than perfect being the order of the day.” – Stargazer Music Magazine

“Overall, the entire album is laden with a rich tapestry of sound and lyrics, well thought out and carefully developed by founder member and visionary Don Dewulf, taking the listener on that perfect journey of thought, and is a credit to its makers gathering no dust in any collection. 10/10” – Stargazer Music Magazine

“Thanks to his renowned session musicians and original compositions, The Wring is a refreshing discovery that offers a personal reading of modern metal. 4/5” – Music Waves

“What sounds at first to be a straight-forward rock album, turns out to be so much more. It’s a tad short, but sometimes less is more. You can hear many influences in these tracks, some of them familiar, but The Wring have stamped their own identity all over it. This should keep you going for the time being but expect more from Don Dewulf with The Wring3 already in the recording stage!” – The Prog Space

“Dewulf’s guitar work shines throughout, at times reminiscent of Alex Lifeson in his prime, such as his powerful solo on ‘Steelier’ which soars above the raging musical maelstrom below. There’s even a funk-infused breakout on ‘Dose’, which is infectious with its driving hook. It’s an absorbing record, one that takes time to soak in, but several plays ensure that it’s burnt deep into the memory. When those end-of-year lists come round, ‘Wring² Project Cipher’ is likely to be pushing for a slot.” – The Razor’s Edge

“The Wring generally succeed at what they’re going for—Dewulf has produced a fun, catchy record. Particularly on the album’s middle section (“Cipher,” “Steelier” and “Dissension”), there’s some great songs with great riffs. If you’re after some new prog, you could do a lot worse than this album, and I found it quite hard to score.” – Angry Metal Guy

Enter The Battlefield w/ TYRANTS OF CHAOS WWII Inspired Video “The Black Gap”

New Album “Relentless Thirst for Power” Out Now!

Tyrants of Chaos are unveiling their latest music video “The Black Gap” off their third album “Relentless Thirst for Power” released this past August.

A war history buff, vocalist Phil Sirias penned the lyrics for the track along with many others on their latest record. “The Black Gap” depicts a time in World War II history where German U-Boats were sinking large numbers of ships in the unprotected area of the North Atlantic called “The Black Gap”.

“It’s another heavy hitting mosh worthy banger with a darker, sludgier tone that fans can really get in to. The lyrics were actually written over 10 years ago and the overall song covers topics such as corruption, greed, ignorance, and turning a blind eye,” adds Sirias.

The music video for “The Black Gap” can be viewed via its premiere on Sonic Perspectives HERE.

Hailing from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Tyrants of Chaos is a balls-out metal assault that is true to the classic styles of the big 4 who started it all. Their new album “Relentless Thirst for Power” follows their debut “The Calm Before The Storm” (2016) and sophomore record “Into Oblivion” (2019).

This third full-length offering “Relentless Thirst For Power” is pure heavy metal from beginning to end with no filler. The album’s main lyricist and vocalist Phil Sirias is a war history nerd. Many of the band’s songs in their catalogue depict battles and times of war in world history. For this new record, Phil wrote about historical events along with touching on darker themes such as death and mental trauma. From the opening track “T.O.C.”, a straightforward, neck-wrecking heavy metal to “Indoctri-Nation”, which focuses on mental health issues to the “No Lives Matter” ballad that forces one to confront their mortality; and the shout-out track to all the NASCAR and racing fans out there “Lucky Dog” that is reminiscent of the 80s heavy metal.

“Relentless Thirst for Power” was produced by guitarist Arik Wagner, mixed and mastered by Johnny Gasparic at MCC Recording Studio Calgary and the album artwork was done by Pierre-Alain D. at 3mmi Design.

Tyrants of Chaos was formed in Lethbridge, AB in 2013 for the love and passion of music by guitarist Curtiss Vaselenak and to fill a gap in the local scene, the band originally started as a fun hard rock and metal cover band. After some shuffling, he is now joined by guitarist Arik Wagner, bassist Sean Simpson, drummer Ryan Dyck, and vocalist Phil Sirias who complete the current lineup. With many years of experience between them, they bring professionalism and solid musicianship to both the stage and the studio.

Heavy and loud, Tyrants Of Chaos delivers a solid pummeling of pure heavy metal. No gimmicks, no gags, just passion, and honesty. They are suitable for fans of Megadeth, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden.

The album “Relentless Thirst For Power” was released on August 19, 2022.

“they release a sound that could rattle the very bowels of hell. Which is a pretty good noise to make!… If traditional, thrash-tinged heavy metal is your thing, you should probably get to know Tyrants of Chaos pretty soon! ” – Sentinel Daily

“a thunderous ten-song onslaught featuring the classic sound of traditional heavy metal.” – Metal Roos

“it’s full of chugging traditional metal… if bands like Striker, White Wizzard, Night Demon, Midnight Priest, etc. are in your playlist, you might find something like from Tyrants of Chaos.” – The Metal Crypt

“The band showing diversity from the off – ‘Skull Crusher’ picking up pace to become the fastest song heard so far. And the most melodious too! And with the famous ‘Maiden-esque gallop, ‘Skull Crusher’ plants feet firmly on the monitor. Old school traditional heavy metal at its best.” – Metal Gods TV

“When it comes to piercing leather lungs, high note ascension, and fierce main melodies, Tyrants of Chaos have the ideal frontman in Phil Sirias – his conviction and delivery during “Slay the Hostages” rivalling the Halford/Dickinson 80’s heydays, yet also showcasing a smoother register in the low range verses of a semi-marching, doom-oriented “No Lives Matter”.” – Dead Rhetoric

L.A. Project (ft. guests from Annihilator, Exxocet) Announce Uplifting And Melodic New Metal Single “Carry On”

Top Left – Lukky Sparxx, Top Right Rich Gray, Bottom Left – Fábio Alessandrini, Bottom Right – Luis Amaro

L.A. Project is an international melodic metal/rock effort that was started by Luis Amaro during the pandemic. In order to bring his ideas to life, he recruited drummer Fábio Alessandrini (Annihilator, Bonfire), bassist Rich Gray (Annihilator, Aeon Zen), and vocalist Lukky Sparxx (Exxocet). In April, Amaro released L.A. Project‘s debut EP “5 Dimensions” and is now following it up with a fresh new single “Carry On”. When asked about the track and the listening experience they are trying to deliver, Amaro responds:

“We think fans will approach it with a lot of curiosity about the new band and sound. Because the first was a little bit of experimentation in different moods. And now we try to have a solid and consistent style of music. All the songs have shredding guitar and are very well played. There is some technical stuff but at the same time it’s very easygoing.”

“Carry On” is about the choices that sometimes you need to make and finding much-needed inspiration in your life. The lyrics are easy to identify with and are relevant to many situations in life whereas the music comes across with plenty of melody and enough of an edge to appease a variety of metal audiences.

The single was produced and mastered by Ricardo Fernandes who did mixing along with Rich Gray. The album artwork was done by Nicolas Oliveros. The melodic riffs in “Carry On” have plenty of attitudes, the vocals demand attention and the listener will be engaged throughout the four and half minute run time. It is recommended for fans of Dokken, Mr.Big, and Steelheart.

Streaming Now! Star Wars Power Metal VIS MYSTICA’s New EP “Celestial Wisdom” Escapes Reality Into The Far Reaches Of A Distant Galaxy

ft. guests Ty Christian (Lords of the Trident), David Michael Moote (Operus), Jonas Heidgert (Dragonland)

– Produced by Chad Anderson (Helion Prime) –

“Celestial Wisdom” Out December 2nd

From a galaxy far, far away comes Vis Mystica, a Star Wars-based power metal act, that aims to provide escapism from everyday life and transportation into a fantastical world of magical powers and epic stories. Their debut EP “Celestial Wisdom” is eight bombastic tracks retelling the Dawn of the Jedi comics from Dark Horse Comics. The band quotes:

“This is an EP that we want people to listen to when they want to escape the craziness and mundane nature of everyday life. Sitting in an office for a 9 to 5 job doesn’t offer one much time for adventure or fantastical experiences and Vis Mystica wants to convey that through its music. You can be sitting at home, driving to work, anything and have the opportunity to turn on this album and be transported to a wonderful land outside of the boundaries of our reality.”

“Celestial Wisdom” is a fantastical journey into a world full of mystic powers and sprawling landscapes, with a classic “Good vs. Evil” battle and many memorable locations and detailed stories. All the themes come from the mind of Star Wars fan Connor McCray who suggests that fans can expect a massive amount of new music over the coming years as he has ideas for several albums to come already and these will only grow stronger with time.

Despite writing all of the music himself, McCray (guitar, bass, orchestration) relies on the talents and input of drummer Dillon Trollope and vocalist Devin Dewyer along with guests Ty Christian (Lords of the Trident), David Michael Moote (Operus), and Jonas Heidgert (Dragonland) to make the songs as strong as they can possibly be.

While they take great influence from other bands, Vis Mystica is quite confident that they possess a style that is somewhat unique in the Power Metal landscape. They are recommended for fans of Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, and Bal-Sagoth.

“Vis Mystica is a very interesting power metal band from Pennsylvania. Listening to this group is like finding an oasis in the middle of the driest desert. Although one of its main characteristics is that its music is based on the Star Wars universe, it is fair to say that its music shines by itself and it is not for less, since its influences are not found in its local scene, not even in its country.” – Metal-Rules.com

“Offering escapism from everyday life, Vis Mystica transports listeners into a fantastical world of magical powers and epic stories with their Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic inspired Power Metal. Along with taking great influence from other bands, they possess a style that is unique and holds its own in the power metal landscape.” – Bloodynews.ro

Vancouver, Canada’s Opus Arise is an orchestral metal ensemble that brings together classical strings and metal rhythms to create luscious soundscapes to dissonant chaos. Their newest album, “The Network” teleports listeners into a cyberpunk world filled with neon lights, and punctuated with progressive riffs. This cyberpunk-inspired world has an intricate plot surrounding research involving chord progressions that manipulate space and time. The band comments on the album:

“After many years that seemed like forever, we’re extremely excited to release our follow-up “The Network”. Thanks to the experience and wisdom of Maor Appelbaum, we’re very stoked that we brought the album to what it needed to be after much trial and error. We hope everyone will enjoy this journey through this Cyberpunk-inspired world!”

The eight-track album is just over forty minutes in length, it was produced and mastered by Maor Appelbaum; mixed by Ryan Shepard, and the album artwork was done by Daniel Reyes.

Due out on December 2nd, 2022, “The Network” can be heard in full via its premiere on TheProgSpace HERE.

Quebec death metal Upon Your Grave is sharing with fans their latest shredding playthrough for their “From Beyond” off their recently released EP “Gold & Decay” mixed and mastered by producer Chris Donaldson of Cryptopsy. Genuinely aggressive, full of blazing guitar riffs and an insane solo, the playthrough by guitarists Sim Diamond (finalist on Banger TV’s Shredders of Metal Season 1) and Alex Bussieres can be viewed via Slam Worldwide – https://youtu.be/CIwu_ghM2ck

The band adds about the track:

“From Beyond talks about the event of encountering a being naturally bound from outer space, while we first explore those endless confines after discovering space travel. A monstrosity unbound by our human conceptions of organic possibilities. The vocals range has it all in this one. from gutturals to high pitches, following grandiose agencements on guitars and epic melodic riffing providing a satisfying experience for the ears. All culminating in an epic solo for icing on the cake. It’s a song we had fun creating and enjoy it more and more each time we play it.”

Upon Your Grave‘s latest offering features five tracks that each show off the capabilities of this band that has been around since 2009. Over the years, they have experimented with their sound and are now steady and impressive. A live show involves energy, full-on impact with the crowd, funny moments, and overall a tight performance, that is true to the recordings.

Proving that work ethic and perseverance can truly refine a band’s sound to what they had always been striving for, this new release will be a fresh start for great things to come and is only the beginning of a flourishing career.

Upon Your Grave delivers everything discerning metalheads look for on a record, they incorporate crushing vocals blended with catchy melodies, bad-ass guitar riffs, along with memorable solos. The EP is recommended for fans of Daath, Lamb of God, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

About:
Established in 2009, Quebec, Canada-based death metal act, Upon Your Grave, is finally back swinging.

In 2019, at the dawn of the band’s 10th anniversary, Sim Diamond, Alex Bussieres and Jordan Jolicoeur grasped the opportunity given by the lockdown to start writing and rehearsing for a new album. This is their first effort since the Eponym debut album back in 2013. During their time away from Upon Your Grave, each member stayed active by releasing albums with other projects like Vibrant Heels and Universal Minds. Lead guitarist Sim Diamond also got to be part of Sam Dunn’s Shredders of Metal season 1 and made it all the way to the finals in Toronto. Now adding two new members to the mix, Sebastien Gagné on drums and Yan Pelletier on bass, two good friends from the local band Scars Of Disgrace, the band had found their perfect lineup to go forward.

With the help of a successful GoFundMe campaign, the band was able to go record a new EP with Chris Donaldson of Cryptopsy in March of 2022. this collaboration was the perfect fit that would elevate their performances to a more genuine and aggressive sound. Incorporating crushing vocals blended with catchy melodies, bad-ass guitar riffs and memorable solos that remind us of bands such as Daath, Lamb of God, Sylosis and even All Shall Perish.

Gold & Decay proves that work ethic and perseverance can truly refine a band’s sound to what they had always been striving for. This new release will be a fresh start for great things to come and is only the beginning of a flourishing career.

– 30 –

“Kicking off with a forty-second acoustic intro – ‘Revived’ then immediately goes into ‘From Beyond’ which is a chugging banger of a tune with some serious guitar work and loads of double kick drum action. ‘Pandora’ is more aggressive with a riff Slayer would kill for and watch how it slows to a heavy grind halfway through before things get serious again on ‘Supremacy’ which is rapid and vicious with a superb solo from Sim Diamond, reminding of Rob Dukes era Exodus. ‘Transcend’ is not hippy, trippy as the title would suggest instead it’s all-out brutality with a sing-a-long chorus! Only four tracks, five if you count the intro, they don’t hang about, but they contain some excellent tunes. If this is the direction Upon Your Grave is going then they will be at the top very soon. Let’s have some more soon!” – My Global Mind

“If you like your Death Metal to come in many different flavours, then you should really like this EP, from Quebec City’s Upon Your Grave. The band made a wise choice in getting Cryptopsy guitarist, Chris Donaldson to mix and mastered this release as it’s the showcase for their new sound… and far from just testing the waters with this EP, they’ve just set the bar for everything they do going forward. If you want straight down the middle Death Metal, a slightly brutal edge or the more melodic side of the genre, Upon Your Grave pack it all in, in just under 19 minutes.” – Smorg Mag

“Upon Your Grave is still going strong, and their rage remains alive. Gold & Decay allows musicians to return to the forefront of the scene by affirming their aggressive roots.” – Actain Infernalis

“Finishing the tsunami “Transcend” is an absolute tour de force of modern Groove laden Death Metal with chunky riffs, blast beats and a sublime extended solo from Diamond that is worth the admission fee alone. There are no two ways about it, Upon Your Grave need to get back on the road and then back in the studio with Donaldson at the helm because like a Vampire suffers from a bloodlust, we need to hear more from them… [8/10]” – Metal Noise

“UPON YOUR GRAVE has a lot of energy to extinguish throughout their debut, it consists of great ideas and musical diversities. The band’s passion for traditional Melodic Death Metal is noticed and felt, yet their combination of Rock and progression really benefited their efforts even more. This one is highly recommended, get ready to bang your heard.” – Metal Temple

“You can imagine lead axeman, Sim Diamond, stood side-on with bow-legged enthusiasm, holding his guitar in the air as he scrapes the opening notes to ‘From Beyond’. This song demands a video of the band thrashing at their instruments in an autumnal Canadian woodland wearing fingerless gloves. The main rhythm drips with a ghoulish sense of suspense, and the solo will remind you of ‘Painkiller’ by Judas Priest. Imagine a groove metal band covering Morbid Angel with the guttural vocals of Jungle Rot. Indeed, the Wisconsin quartet are the obvious comparison to the new version of Upon Your Grave. They shower you with an abundance of syncopated palm-mutes and tremolo tags to keep you guessing. How often do you wonder if modern Carcass are a death metal version of Kreator? The same observation rears its head here. Sebastien Gagné’s drums enhance the mix with an extra layer of steel.” – Scream Blast Repeat

Descend Into Post-Metal Despair With “To Which I Bore Witness” From THEY GRIEVE + Post Album Teaser & Pre-Order

“To Which I Bore Witness” is the second release from Canada’s post-metal duo They Grieve via Silent Pendulum Records. Taking the form of an introspective journey, it is meant to be depressing. The listener will be confronted with sad, loud music that’s not meant to cross into anger. The band wants people to sit with the album’s sadness and find comfort or kinship within. Each element of the release from the music, to the artwork, to the liner notes, is very intentional and suggested to be enjoyed as a whole. The band explains further:

“This album, both lyrically and musically, tries to capture the uncomfortable juxtaposition between weakness and weight. We are constantly trying to express the ways in which the ugliness and decay we see in the world sets itself down and plants its roots inside of us—how the weight of the world transforms into our own weakness once it has done so. We try to capture this feeling of juxtaposition and tension within the music itself by oscillating between ambient, textural drones and heavy, doom-laden riffs.”

They Grieve hopes that their music fills a niche not quite like other post-metal acts who are currently active. They feel that they offer a nuanced blend of doom(ish) metal and post-metal ambiance without diving into the more typical harsh noise territory. The production value of “To Which I Bore Witness” is a clear step up for them. Compared to the self-recorded debut EP, “I Made My Sacrifice Accordingly”, this new offering does a much better job of capturing the atmosphere and energy of their live performances.

A cold embrace of post-metal colliding with ambient drone, “To Which I Bore Witness” is recommended for fans of The Body, Cult of Luna, and Bell Witch. The album was produced by Topon Das (F*ck The Facts) at Apartment 2 Studio along with mastering done by Dave Williams at Eight Floors Above and additional tracks recorded by Alex Jakimczuk at Uppercut Studios. Album artwork was done by Pascale Arpin.

It can now be pre-ordered with a release date of February 24, 2023, via Silent Pendulum Records.

About: They Grieve is a two-piece doom, drone, and post-metal band based in Ottawa, Canada. Drawing influence from both minimalist ambient music and down-tempo metal, they blend warm synthesizers, electronics, and lofty guitar drones into mournful hymns and monolithic dirges with urgency, tension, and weight.

Members Gary Thibert and Deniz Güvenç formed They Grieve in 2015 with the intent to experiment with new forms and processes for songwriting, collaboration, and improvisation. Their first EP, I Made My Sacrifice Accordingly, was self-recorded and self-released in late 2016. In 2018, it was re-released with an added bonus track and accompanying music video through Transcending Records.

They Grieve are set to release their first full-length album entitled To Which I Bore Witness. Recorded at Apartment 2 with Topon Das of Fuck the Facts, this album presents a marked change in the band’s sound. Moving away from the harsh-noise influence on their first album, To Which I Bore Witness unveils a much more refined approach to texture and atmosphere while simultaneously shifting to a slower, heavier pace.

Employing a nuanced sense of harmony, the result is an emotional, dynamic, and doom-laden take on post-metal.
