NEWS RELEASE

Montreal, QC – June 16, 2020

For fans of Converge, DFA1979, Lightning Bolt

Montreal’s GORLVSH Shares New Music Video ‘New City Vibe’

Debut Album “New City Vibe” Out Now! via No List Records & Ancient Temple Recordings

Bringing their bizarre, mathy, metallic hardcore music to ears everywhere, Montreal, QC power trio GORLVSH (pronounced Gore-Lush) unleashed their debut album earlier this month on June 5th via No List Records and Ancient Temple Recordings. Entitled “New City Vibe”, the album is a new mantra, as an injunction. “New City Vibe” is decadence. The lyrics on the release are all about today’s challenges, individualism, hyper-sexualization, ordinary violence, competition between individuals, and deadly ideologies destroying people’s lives. For those who are from the band’s hometown of Montreal, the artwork represents the iconic Farine Roses building.

Today, the band shares their $0 budget video for the album’s title track filmed on the deserted streets of Montreal during global pandemic.

The band adds:

“What’s a better encapsulation of the current NEW CITY VIBE here in Montreal than three dudes strutting around like gangsters in an abandoned city covered in graffiti, where the only friendly faces are hidden behind dehumanizing masks, engulfed by a now routine dread from a F*CKING PANDEMIC? Hopefully not too much”

Watch ‘New City Vibe’ on YouTube or Facebook.

Featuring a tornado of crushing heavy sludgy riffs and venomous spitfire vocals, “New City Vibe” is available for digital, CD, and cassette orders from No List Records here and Ancient Temple Recordings here plus Spotify.

The band adds:

“We hope those that listen will be stoked to hear something unique, but also produced and performed phenomenally. We want people to be excited about something that hasn’t really heard before, something fresh and uncommon. We do massive riffs that work for our blend of multiple bass amps, octave pedals, and a f*ckton of distortion and fx. We really aim to sound as good and professional as possible, despite our DIY ethos and $0 recording budget. This record was recorded, mixed, and mastered entirely by our drummer Noah with the goal of spending no money for the whole record. So far this has worked out.”

“Combining the influential sounds of Converge, Death from Above 1979 and Lightning Bolt, Montreal’s Gorlvsh (pronounced “Gore-Lush”) is dead set on adding some rowdiness and weirdness to the sonic landscape. We don’t know if they are, as they claim, “Montreal’s sickest guitar-less band,” but from what we can tell they make a hell of a racket that combines math rock angularity, crushing metallic riffs, off-kilter rhythms and a few catchy hooks in there for good measure.” – Decibel Magazine
“The bass tone is maybe more important than you realize, because Gorlvsh don’t use a guitar. It’s just bassist Nick Boucher slinging the riffs in ways that provide a lot more than groove, drummer Noah Baxter working in an exhilarating amount of intricacy to go along with a lot of skull-busting, and vocalist Isaac Ruder adding both bleeding-edge intensity and melodic hooks. The result is music that’s sometimes bizarre and mentally unbalancing, sometimes gut-slugging, and sometimes downright enthralling — and rarely follows a straight line.” – No Clean Singing

“GORLVSH Offer Some Good Vibes Hardcore With New City Vibe” – Metal Injection

“With varying tempos, drawn out percussion, desperate and throat shredding roars, New City Vibe is the epitome of a modern hardcore record. Gorlvsh delivering on their promise of punk-sensibilities and metal ruthlessness.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“Blending Dillinger Escape Plan–esque angular complexity with punk snarl and groovy riffs reminiscent of Mutoid Man, Gorlvsh may not have been what the death metal/grindcore crowd at L’Esco were expecting, but they were one of the most fun and most unique local bands I’ve seen in a good while.” – Bucketlist Music Reviews

Debut Album “New City Vibe” Out June 5th via No List Records & Ancient Temple Recordings

Bringing their bizarre, mathy, metallic hardcore music to ears everywhere, Montreal, QC power trio GORLVSH (pronounced Gore-Lush) are premiering their single ‘Sheppard One Is Down’ via NoCleanSinging HERE.

The track is off their forthcoming debut album “New City Vibe” due out June 5, 2020 via No List Records and Ancient Temple Recordings. With a tornado of crushing heavy sludgy riffs and energetic energetic sound, GORLVSH is suited for anyone looking for something completely different, the band explains:

“We constantly wrote music with the live show in mind. Eventually, when we decided to record the full length, we just worked backward from which tracks were most exciting to make something we could be proud of. We’ve upped our production game a lot, but focused primarily on what makes our sound unique, finding riffs that work for our blend of multiple bass amps, octave pedals, and a ton of distortion and fx. “Greber offer up their latest slab of crushing sludge- and doom-laden grind with their new album, Cemetery Preston. The duo consist of bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon (ex-Fuck the Facts) and drummer/vocalist Steve Vargas (The Great Sabatini), who create an exceptionally raw and visceral sound with their unique approach.” – Exclaim!

“Greber has certainly created their own sound with Cemetery Preston. A medley of differing metal styles delivered in bitter fashion. The duo bring an level of intensity that walks a tight line between sludgy riffs, grinding drum beats & wild hardcore style vocals.” – Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life

“…a ridiculously bottom-heavy racket” – Decibel Magazine

“The short version: If most “normal” grind is like a dude in a hockey mask hacking you to death with a machete, than Greber might be best described as a really pissed-off dude thumping you to death with a hammer, or maybe a 2 x 4. The edges may not be sharp, but it’s still fucking painful, y’know?” – Metal Sucks

“…the sound of two awesome dudes, one riding a bass like a surfboard, the other in a drum kit like a barrel, plunging down the steepest face of Mount Everest, sober but mad, screaming their way through the almost impassable barrier of snow, rock, trees, starving animals and unstoppable velocity.” – David Hall, Handshake Inc. via Exclaim!

“this endless onslaught of blast beats smashing against detuned chug riffs, embittered, possessed bellowing, cacophonous and melodic interludes, with occasional audio samples is accomplished by nothing more than two minds looking to do the same thing: annihilate comprehension, deconstruct the rigid state of modern extreme music and create some of the heaviest fucking music possible” – Exclaim!

“What we have here folks is a seriously brutal fucked up and loud assault on the senses with this superb split release from Greber and Hiroshima Vacation. Excellent and Highly Recommended” – The Sludgelord

“Cambridge, Ontario’s Greber exists on the low end of things with their guitar-less line-up giving them a sludgier feel during those moments they slow down to a proverbial, but not complete, crawl. Rhythmic, pulsing and noisy, their three songs are like the most convulsive soundtrack to the dirtiest sex you’ll ever have during your 20s.”- Decibel Magazine

“There is actually so much sonic space taken up with the bass, drums, enraged vocals, and other creepy aural nuances, that one couldn’t possibly imagine trying to fit in a guitar track anywhere.” – Noisography

MetalInjection Premiere GREBER’s New Video “Grave Plot”

New Album “Cemetery Preston” Out February 2nd

Eastern Canadian Tour Dates (ON/QC/NB/NS)

L to R – Marc Bourgon – Bass, Vocals, Steve Vargas – Drums, Vocals

Henry Miller wrote one of the great truths of life when he said “All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience.”

Such a quote could describe bass-and-drums duo GREBER, save that with past and present members of Fuck the Facts and The Great Sabatini, they have a great wealth of experience to bring to the table. Inspired by the truly great bands like Neurosis and Propaghandi, but inspired not to slavishly imitate what they have already created, but to forge their own sound, to blaze new trails. To look out at the world that surrounds us and reflect what they see truthfully; as though holding up a mirror to the darkness in the hope of reflecting a glimmer of light.

They truly have gazed into the abyss and put to music what they see there; their music has huge depths and they have none of the limitations that plague so many bands. They truly are their own beast and they truly have their own sound.

Since forming in 2008, GREBER have released two well-received full length albums, three 7″ inch split singles, and played countless shows. As if they were morphing into a single entity, Drummer Steve Vargas and bassist/vocalist Marc Bourgon have made GREBER into their own unique entity, something as important to the duo as food and air.

On February 2, 2018, GREBER will release their new album “Cemetery Preston”, through collaborations between Ancient Temple Recordings, Pink Lemonade Recordings, Hibernation Release, No Why Records and d7i Records, on LP, CD, cassette and digital download. Audience’s jaws will drop at the raw mining of emotions it contains, its searing sincerity, and sheer innovation. As Bourgon explains. “Cemetery Preston is our best attempt at taking a fleeting snapshot of this living purgatory that we all call life.”

Teaming up with MetalInjection.net, the grind hardcore duo is premiering their new video and second single “Grave Plot”.

Drummer Steve Vargas comments:

“Grave Plot was kind of the weirdo song on the record for us. We tried to give it a dark and almost unnerving vibe to coincide with the lyrics. It’s bit of a detour for us as far as the entire album goes, but helps add a mood to the release that I think shines a different light on what we were trying to get across.”

Drummer Steve Vargas comments:

“Backhanded Interest is a great showcase of themes we touch on both lyrically and musically throughout the album. We’re always working with the dynamics of just bass and drums and this song is as crushing as it is just a great song in my opinion. Marc’s riffs rule and it’s always so much fun to get creative with my drum approach. When we sat down to figure out the first “single” it was an easy choice to choose this one.”
