Edmonton’s STRIKER have pulled off a hat trick at the Western Canadian Music Awards winning Metal/Hard Music Artist of the Year for their third time in a row. The awards were held in Kelowna, BC on October 11th during the BreakoutWest Festival & Conference. The band found about their award win while wrapping up the end of their North American tour with Unleash The Archers and Helion Prime this past week.

Guitarist Tim Brown was delighted by the news and had this to say;

Champions in blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Canadian shredders STRIKER will be unleashing their sixth studio album “Play To Win” on October 26th via their independent label Record Breaking Records. The album features 10 fist pounding shredtacular anthems produced by the band plus mixed and mastered by Hendrik Udd (Firewind, Powerwolf, Hammerfall, Delain). The album follows their 2017 self-titled full length that the band supported with tours across Europe and North America with Sonata Arctica, Dark Tranquility, and Warbringer along with festival appearances at 70,000 Tons of Metal, Bang Your Head Festival (Germany) and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade plus career. That fifth studio album also garnered them a nomination from Canada’s JUNO awards, the country’s highest music prize, along with wins at the Edmonton Music Awards and Western Canadian Awards.

LORDS OF THE TRIDENT are premiering their latest self-produced music video “Tormentor” via MetalInsider.net. The video is in support of their latest and 7th studio album “Shadows From The Past” released via their indie label Junko Johnson this past August.

The band comments:

“Tormentor is a song about an out-of-control asteroid-mining spaceship that destroys everything in its path, including the earth! Of course, we wanted to get the best special effects team available for the video, so we called up our buddy George Lucas, but unfortunately he was busy with a Jar-Jar spin-off movie. Spielberg passed as well, as he was worried the video would be so epic, sales of his other movies would plummet. So, in the spirit of DIY, we taught ourselves CGI film-making and crafted the video! It took us a number of months, and we burned through at least six graphics cards in the process, but the result is here and it looks AWESOME!”

A true spectacle to be witnessed, LORDS OF THE TRIDENT is a daring adventure metal quintet that has been delighting their audiences and fans all over the world for ten years. The album was supported by a kickstarter campaign that went live on June 1st and ended on June 29th. American sci-fi power metal duo DIRE PERIL featuring Jason Ashcraft (Helion Prime) and vocalist John Yelland (Judicator) are premiering their latest lyric video “Queen of The Galaxy” featuring Unleash The Archers vocalist Brittney Slayes whom reprise’s her role as Barbarella for a re-recorded version of the track. The song is their second single off their upcoming album “The Extraterrestrial Compendium” due out November 9th, 2018 via Divebomb Records to follow their three previous EP releases “Astronomical Minds” (2013), “Queen of The Galaxy” (2014) and “Through Time and Space” (2015).

“Telling the story of Barbarella the Queen of the Galaxy, we are joined by the first guest musician on the album Brittney Slayes (Unleash the Archers). This is actually a re-recording of an older Dire Peril track and the lyrics were written by original vocalist Norman Skinner.

BIO:Dire Peril was an idea that goes as far back as Jason Ashcraft’s (guitars, bass) high school years. The band’s name was inspired by a PC game he used to play, called “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodline”, which has stuck with him ever since.

Originally formed in 2009, the band went on to create three EPs: Astronomical Minds, Queen of the Galaxy and Through Time and Space, and proceeded to play a handful of local shows, as well as a few out of town gigs. In 2015, feeling like things just weren’t as they should be, Ashcraft decided to take a step back and take a hard look at where the band was headed.

Inspired by all manner of science fiction, especially classic sci-fi movies, Dire Peril regrouped as a double piece; Ashcraft was joined by singer John Yelland, and together they began working on the debut album titled “The Extraterrestrial Compendium,” set for release on November 9, 2018. Recruiting a live line up enabled them to start playing live shows including an upcoming North American tour with Seven Kingdoms allowing the American sci-fi power metal band to reach its final form and share their dark, aggressive adventure with the masses.

This is one of the more technical songs off our new album “Shadows From The Past”, but also my favorite to play. Dire Peril was an idea that goes as far back as Jason Ashcraft’s (guitars, bass) highschool years. The band’s name was inspired by a PC game he used to play, called “Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodline”, which has stuck with him ever since. Originally formed in 2009 as the name under which Ashcraft used to perform covers, the band wouldn’t see it’s true form until around 2012, when Jason joined forces with the Bay Area powerhouse vocalist Norman Skinner.

The band went on to create three EPs: Astronomical Minds, Queen of the Galaxy and Through Time and Space, and proceeded to play a handful of local shows, as well as a few out of town gigs. In 2015, feeling like things just weren’t as they should be, Ashcraft decided to take a step back and take a hard look at where the band was headed.

Inspired by all manner of science fiction, especially classic sci-fi movies, Dire Peril regrouped as a two piece; Ashcraft was joined by singer John Yelland, and together they began working on the debut album titled “The Extraterrestrial Compendium,” set for release on November 9, 2018.

‘The Extraterrestrial Compendium’ bases each one of its 12 songs on classic sci-fi movies including Predator, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, and E.T. and features guests Brittany Slayes (Unleash the Archers) and Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon).

Recruiting a live line up enabled them to start playing live shows including large North American tours with Sirenia and Unleash the Archers plus most recently supporting Seven Kingdoms this coming November on select USA tour dates. The American sci-fi power metal band is close to reaching its final form and is now ready to share their dark, aggressive adventure with the masses.

Metal warriors on a holy quest, Toronto’s AxMinister‘s new heavy metal pounder “The Crucible of Sin” was unleashed this past May. Releasing their first music video “Prey” as part their planned 5 episode series, the band returns with their 2nd installment for their track “Salvation” being premiered on Metal-Rules.com. The 5 part series is a visual guide to tell the story of “The Crucible of Sin”. All 5 episodes / music videos in the series were produced and directed by drummer Bas Majzoub (aka Bas von Bismark).

“Being a second generation filmmaker, I’ve been playing with film cameras since before my years reached double digits, and as such, I have a list of dream projects I want to film, from westerns to Sci-Fi. One such dream concept has always been a medieval sword fighting revenge tale, and leading up to the recording of our “The Crucible of Sin” EP, I made the decision to pen and produce 5 videos, corresponding with the songs, and following one storyline, delivered as five episodes. I’m super excited to share my vision with our metal loving fans. Chronicling the story of a sword wielding warrior, hell-bent on bloody revenge after a deadly assault against his family, episode II, “Salvation”, is an action packed experience, that follows our reminiscing hero, as he tracks down those who murdered his children, and abducted his wife. This EP has that ‘90’s warm thrash sound akin to Megadeth’s Youthanasia album. During that month, the band’s fans helped them surpass their goals to raise over $11,000 for the release. The band offered multiple packages and rewards that included merch, lessons from band members, festival tickets, private concerts and a copy of the video game Coffee Crisis that the band has partnered with to feature one of their songs for one of the levels along with band members as NPCs (non-playable characters).
