Vancouver’s NINJASPY, a trio of blood brothers that have created a metal fusion of hard, heavy, hook-laden music that runs the gamut of reggae, surf and more will be releasing their next full length ‘Spüken’ due out April 14, 2017. The album is once again produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Gallows) and Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Atreyu, Haste the Day) to follow their 2013 EP / graphic novel ‘No Kata’ and 2007 debut ‘Pi Nature’. The album was crowd funded and helped the band raise $15,000 to record the new full length, which features a culmination of nearly a decade of songs that have been narrowed down to an epic 10 track experience to demonstrate all their downbeats to breakdowns to their weaving of reggae, hardcore, metal and much more.

Vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent comments:

“Spüken is the musical equivalent of a magician removing his own entrails. The guts just keep coming, like handkerchiefs from a sleeve, and its painful, colourful and cathartic all at once, in the same way that vomiting after hours of nausea is such a relief. The musical ideas that came together in this project span many years and come from many influences. Hearing them all together is a trip. There were a lot of hard times in the years while this record was being written and most, if not all of these songs are tied together by the search for something greater than oneself. Empowerment by going through ones pain, all this is woven into an album that is another spastic stylistic roller coaster not unlike our previous albums, but with smoother blending. From song to song there is a lot of variance, but within songs we have managed to take contrasting genres and combine them in more nuanced ways, with less hard cuts. This album is colourful, and the palette is dark.”

       Isolation has most certainly bred inspiration in the shape of SLAGDUSTER. Hailing from Grand Forks, B.C, the band is name after a slang term local to their area for a piece of machinery that was used in the mines over a hundred years ago.

“We are the only four musicians in our small town driven to form a progressive metal band.” says vocalist Shane Sherman.

Inspired by such giants as Goijira. Sikth, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me, SLAGDUSTER offer a progressive, groovy, creative, unique and heavy sound.

It’s been a few years since their debut album ‘Nature.Humanity.Machine’ and SLAGDUSTER is ready to unleash their follow up ‘Deadweight’ due out on May 5th, 2017.

“Naturally our sound has come a long way since our debut release in 2010. The music is more complex, and much more developed, still heavy, but even more groove based. “”Mother’s Milk” is one of the more structured arrangements on the new album. We like some of the riffs so much that we couldn’t avoid bringing them back a couple times. It starts off with a strong driving march feel, before picking up speed and racing around hairpin corners, drifting effortlessly while navigating multiple sonic terrains smoothly from start to finish. Lyrically, the message focuses on a downward spiral of dependence and desperation, characterized within a story about an unhealthy mother/son relationship, a dark contrast to the song’s upbeat tempo.”

About ‘Spüken’:Years in the making since spring 2014 when NINJASPY launched the “Jump Ya Bones” and crowd funding Campaign, the band was able to raise $15,000 to fund the new full length. They began recording in November 2014, taking their culmination of nearly a decade of songs and narrowing them down to an epic 10 track experience to demonstrate all their downbeats to breakdowns to their weaving of reggae, hardcore, metal and much more.

“These 10 songs span a decade, so there are a lot of different feels happening from song to song that represent what we got into over the years. It’s like we spent 10 years swallowing everything life threw at us, then we threw it all back up again, and are now able to listen to the blended, half-digested version of it.” says vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent.

‘Spüken’ was recorded and mixed sporadically over the next two years in Vancouver, BC and in the spring of 2016 between recording sessions, the band teased fans with a filmed and recorded live acoustic performance of their track ‘Azaria’, a song that is included with full metal instrumentation on the new genre-bending album. It showed the true diversity of the band and their ability to take manic and intense music and make it tender and raw.

       Isolation has most certainly bred inspiration in the shape of SLAGDUSTER. Hailing from Grand Forks, B.C, the band is name after a slang term local to their area for a piece of machinery that was used in the mines over a hundred years ago.

“We are the only four musicians in our small town driven to form a progressive metal band.” says vocalist Shane Sherman.

Inspired by such giants as Goijira. Sikth, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Between The Buried And Me, SLAGDUSTER offer a progressive, groovy, creative, unique and heavy sound.

It’s been a few years since their debut album ‘Nature.Humanity.Machine’ and SLAGDUSTER is ready to unleash their follow up ‘Deadweight’ due out on May 5th, 2017.

“Naturally our sound has come a long way since our debut release in 2010. The music is more complex, and much more developed, still heavy, but even more groove based. Like the ancient machine they are named after, SLAGDUSTER work hard to draw art from base material, they’re sound is meticulous and lengthy. All nine of tracks on ‘Deadweight’ have been very slowly and carefully crafted over the years. No songs were scrapped; all were completely revamped continuously for years. SLAGDUSTER put way more effort into collaborative song writing, which has significantly advanced their original sound. Each track contains a variety of things, ranging from ripping riffs and tremolo melodies to soft transitional parts and psychedelic interludes on top of constant heaviness and groove.

Of course, these songs are transformed in SLAGDUSTER’s live show, which vocalist Shane Sherman describes as “high energy, bordering on ridiculous, with offensive banter and annoying antics from an attention hungry front man. Vancouver’s NINJASPY, a trio of blood brothers that have created a metal fusion of hard, heavy, hook-laden music that runs the gamut of reggae, surf, metal and more will be performing their explosive and powerfully unhinged live show across Canada in support of their next full length ‘Spüken’ due out April 14, 2017. Their album is once again produced by GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Gallows) and Ben Kaplan (Biffy Clyro, Atreyu, Haste the Day) to follow NINJASPY‘s 2013 EP / graphic novel ‘No Kata’ and their 2007 debut ‘Pi Nature’. The album release tour will be the band’s sixth tour across the country and also marks six years since 2011 that they have trekked from West to East, the last time being in support of their debut album.

About ‘Spüken’:

Years in the making since spring 2014 when NINJASPY launched the “Jump Ya Bones” and crowd funding Campaign, the band was able to raise $15,000 to fund the new full length. They began recording in November 2014, taking their culmination of nearly a decade of songs and narrowing them down to an epic 10 track experience to demonstrate all their downbeats to breakdowns to their weaving of reggae, hardcore, metal and much more.

“These 10 songs span a decade, so there are a lot of different feels happening from song to song that represent what we got into over the years. It’s like we spent 10 years swallowing everything life threw at us, then we threw it all back up again, and are now able to listen to the blended, half-digested version of it.” says vocalist / guitarist Joel Parent.

‘Spüken’ was recorded and mixed sporadically over the next two years in Vancouver, BC and in the spring of 2016 between recording sessions, the band teased fans with a filmed and recorded live acoustic performance of their track ‘Azaria’, a song that is included with full metal instrumentation on the new genre-bending album. It showed the true diversity of the band and their ability to take manic and intense music and make it tender and raw.

Hard, heavy, hook-laden music that runs the gamut of reggae, surf, metal and more make up the band’s rule-breaking formula for notoriety. All this combined with an explosive and powerfully unhinged live show got NINJASPY off the ground in a hurry. “The whole theme of Mouichido was about my return to my martial arts roots to help cope with the stress and B.S.” explains guitarist DJ Temple ” When it came time to shoot this video, I thought it would be rad to call up my friends from MAMBA MMA and see if they would like to be a part of it. The band’s new EP ‘Mouichido’ is a rebirth for the band as it’s a re-release of re-recorded material from their 2014 EP ‘Reborn’. ‘Mouichido’ is the Japanese word for “Repeat” or “to do one more time” and is perfectly titled for the EP to signify its re-release of previously recorded versions that now feature new vocalist Alex Friis and bass tracks recorded by Tristan Martin plus live performance being done by Ryan Loewen along with a guest appearance by vocalist Mark Hunter of Chimaira on track ‘In Waves’.

Vancouver-based Without Mercy certainly stays true to its name. Ruthless and menacing, these Canadian metal titans have cultivated and redefined the phrase, “Fuck Pussy Metal”.

Founded in 2004, Without Mercy has gone from strength to strength over the years. They released their first EP “All Else Fails” in 2007 completely independently and used its humble beginnings to start the catapulting of performances, internet presence and radio play. In 2009, Without Mercy went on to record their self-titled full length album using the same team that worked on records by Devin Townsend, Mudvayne, and Marilyn Manson.  Without Mercy rode the attention wave of their self-titled debut, using the escalation to begin a relentless performance schedule that would lead them far from their hometown and include over 200 live performances.  No stranger to tenacity, in only a few short years Without Mercy have achieved; being the only indie metal band in Western Canada to have two tracks available on Rock Band 3, being featured in Tattoo Savage Magazine, and pioneering the phrases, ‘You Smell Like A Bitch’ and ‘Fuck Pussy Metal’ – which have now become synonymous with the band.

In 2014, Without Mercy unleashed third studio release, “Reborn”.  Another massive evolution for the band, Without Mercy sought to bring back the organic metal sound and combine it with a high production standard.  Fast forward to 2016, some line up changes with a new vocalist and bassist, the band is ready to share with fans re-recorded material from ‘Reborn’ on their new EP ‘Mouichido’ that even features Chimaira vocalist Mark Hunter on their track ‘In Waves’.
